Not only did I have to fight off sleep during the lectures, but I did more useless memorizing and repeating than I ever have. STAY AWAY!!!
She says "um" way too much. Probably the nicest lady I have ever met. Learned some useful material but had to fight the urge to fall asleep. Too much memorization but if you are looking for an easy "A" then this is the course for you!
No joke, she said the word "uh" 175 times in one class period. If you like boring and dull, this is the class for you.
her words of wisdom and instruction consist of, "ummmm"
very easy class, art historian with monotone voice, hard to follow. gives syllabus, easy to follow, easy overall, just do the work. if your nice to her and smile every once in a while you'll get an A.
This class is absoulely pointless and it should be taken away from the gen. ed. categories. She is very boring and i have to fight the urge to fall asleep. She doesnt talk clearly and she doesnt explain things well at all. She is also a teacher who feels she can preach to us about HER religion. DONT
World Art class was VERY interesting and I'm a marketing major. EASY as long as you go to class and take good notes. The online quizzes were annoying, but the tests were easy if you studied your notes.
Shes was really boring most of the time, but the class wasn't that hard as long as you studied.
worst teacher i have had at ISU. Dont take her if you can avoid it! she makes this class a lot harder than it should be, being a gen ed. She gets really annoying with assigned seats, taking attendance, online quizzes, and constantly saying "UM...um..um"
Wow, she is awful. Says um over and over and when a student actually is paying attention and asks her to clarify something, she talks to them like they're an idiot for not knowing already while the rest of the class has no idea what's going on. Get another teacher or do not take this class.
Maggie DuncanFlowers is a nice lady who means well. She does have a severe uh/um problem and managed to utter these words over 745 times in one class period (I was so distracted I had to count!).Overall the class is easy, you have to take a lot of notes. The quizzes are online and the final is online.
She seems like a nice person but is an awful teacher. Her "um/uh" habit is distracting, and the class is boring. She is hard to follow and even confuses herself. Going to this class was almost painful.
Maggie's nice...but she's as thick as a brick.
The most boring teacher ever. She's completely monotone and says um CONSTANTLY. She does seem like a nice person one on one, but her class is so rediculously boring it's hard to force yourself to go to it. But if you don't go, you miss the notes and fail the tests. Tests were hard if you didn't memorize every detail in your notes.

Class is harder than necessary. She stutters and says um and uh a lot. She's hard to learn from and understand the concepts. Makes the tests harder than they need to be. I had her for FOI, shouldn't have taken her again, I thought she would be better in her major, she's not. A poor teacher.
Get another professor! Awful with um/uh, randomly mentions something ONCE then puts it on the exam. Unless you're an excellent note taker and take notes verbatim good luck on getting anything higher than a B. This class is ridiculously difficult for a gen ed.
she knows a lot about what she is teaching. she expects you to be respectful and listen to her lesson, which is why most people have a problem with her.
Maggie Duncan-Flowers needs a reality check. Everything's online so she makes up questions that are impossible to find and no time to do it. If she didn't take attendance there's no way I would go listen to her say UM or UH for an hour and 15 min. She's NUTS! She ruined whatever interest I might have had in world culture. WARNING: STAY AWAY!!
Um, Uh every four - seven words. She mentions something once and it is on the online tests which are impossible. Online quizes (one try for all) from the book are very hard. She has knowledge but is a bad teacher. She looks down the whole time and talks softly. She talks fast and expects you to write it ALL down. Only reason for class:points
says um, uh ever other word. She is very hard to understand. The class is so boring. Don't take this class with her.
This class was unbelievably easy...quizes and tests are online. She is incredibly boring and you have to go to class, but she is also nice and helpful if needed.
Sure, she knows what she's talking about but that proves nothing. She's not an evil human, but I've never been to a more boring lecture that is over a potentially good topic. If you've got to take the class, you'll live though. Many people like to cheat in this class since the quizzes/tests are online which just skews the class so don't do it!
she sucks and she stutters the whole time the class seems like its 8 hours long because she says "umm" the whole time. it could be completed in 15 minutes
Horrible teacher. Avoid taking her class at all costs. For my class, tests were online. Which seems good, but they really were impossible. She is unclear in lecture but yet asks very specific questions on the test. I'm an art major, and this is the most ridiculous art history class i've ever taken.
Overall this class is by far the worst motivator to wake up to and go. She has annoying habbits that are hard to ignore-- hold mic to her face when she can clip it to her shirt, talks fast and doesn't repeat anything. She is a nice lady and accomodating if talked to. If you are going to take her and this class...take it for a Pass/Fail.
Definitely very knowledgeable of the material being covered, but is not a good speaker or teacher. Stands behind podium the entire time. Her class gets very monotonous at times, but it is easy to get through. The online tests are ridiculous though, unless you record her lectures you will most likely have not taken good enough notes to get an A.
She has no clue how to talk, so boring, but its an easy A. All tests are online so take it with a friend and get an A. But you have to go to class :(
WORST CLASS EVER! Boring is a serious understatement and she has no clue how to talk in front of an audience. She says "uh" and "um" more times in a class session than she says real words, it's bad. Most of what she teaches has nothing to do with art. Her exams are online and they are still impossible! Stay AWAY!
She is REALLY boring to listen to, but at least you can do homework during class. She is not a very good speaker. Don't even try to take notes in class, just print the notes once she posts them. The tests are ridiculous and online, but if you take them with friends it's pretty easy to get an A. If you have to take ART275, have her as a teacher
I just took a test of hers today and thats why I am posting this. I think her class is fairly interesting and shes easy to listen to. But the tests are ridiculously hard even though its online... you should study just as hard for her tests like you do others. Shes the only teacher for the class so your screwed if you have to take it.
ART275 was by far the worst class that I've had to take at ISU. I've never dreaded having to go to a class so much... it was boring beyond belief, the subject matter was completely pointless, and the teacher droned on and on for 90 minutes. I hope I never have to take a class like this with a professor like this again.
Oh...My...God. I have never been put to sleep by someone talking, but this lady had me dozing off every class period. I thought that this class was really challenging simply because it is soooo boring and she covers SO much material but only about 10% of it is on the test. Huge waste of life.
I have never had a more boring class before in my life. She takes attendance, so you have to go. She is so unenthusiastic and her voice puts you to sleep. Even though the quizzes and tests are online, they are very hard. Don't take this class, wait for a better option if you are taking it to satisfy a gen ed.
She was the worst teacher i have ever had. Her lectures are pointless and she rambles on and on. Her quizzes are hard, but doable because you get such a long period of time to do them. Her tests are impossible. Definatly dont recommend taking this class, and if you have to, take it with someone you know so you can take the tests together.
The class was very difficult for me, she lectures on the material and knows it REALLY well, however I found it hard to understand. I just barely made it out with an A.
Focuses more on history than art. Must take DETAILED notes. VERY hard exams. Use Microsoft Excel for notes to pass (you can search them that way).
This class was NOT good, I'm a straight A student, and I only got an A by working my butt off all semester. No one could understand her and her tests were way too hard for a gen. ed. Find someone esle if you can, if you can't read the book a lot.
This class is TERRIBLE. It barely has anything to do with art.. mostly just history of things that are really hard to understand. The tests are online which would seem easy..but they AREN'T!! they take like the whole class period and you still probably wont be done. TERRIBLE
WORST teacher at ISU. the class has nothing to do with "art".. we learned about middle east religions and the history behind them.. the tests are impossible and more than half the questions werent even discussed in class or in the text! shes horrible at explaining things .. AVOID THIS CLASS IF YOU CAN!!!!!!!
I brought my computer to class everyday, had the outlines handy and powerpoints...even with all that you have to take extremely detailed notes to do well on exams. KNOW PEOPLE IN THE CLASS! Im getting an A but its only cuz I knew other people. That's honestly how to get through the class...o and google helps during online tests
horrible teacher, very boring, all tests and quizzes are online and extremely hard! do not take this class with this teacher!!
Not a blow off, only take if you actually want to learn. Covery wide spectrum of topics. Tries to present herself as really hard and cold at first but if you talk to her she's really nice and helpful. KEY TO SUCCESS = morning study sessions
Class is extremely difficult. Need to pay attention to detail. Bring laptop to class to take notes, and still will have a hard time getting an A. If you know people it will be easier to pass, but still very difficult. Find another elective before choosing this one.
Horrible class. More about the history of art than art itself. Lecture puts one to sleep. Exams are EXTREMELY HARD. Even with going to lecture and taking notes, it's still hard to manage an A with all that and google. Plus, she monitors the webct quizzes. AVOID THIS CLASS, ESPECIALLY IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR AN EASY GLOBAL STUDIES.
DROP THIS CLASS!! I saw all these comments and still didn't listen, and now I totally regret it! Tests are impossible..I studied for 15 hours for the test and still got a C. She won't respond to my emails..it's like she wants us to do bad! Listen and just drop this class!!
worst class i've ever taken in my life
Her tests are impossible... i read the book, typed my notes (so i could search), and used the internet... 66% and that wasnt far from the average.. find a group of people in this class and take the tests together if you care about your GPA
I have taken many art history courses and this was by far the hardest.Heavy emphasis on history of India,China andJapan with very intense lectures. Use the book for quizzes and the notes for tests (all online). Many people cheated and I guess that is the reason the exams were so impossible. Not fair to those of us who are honest, but I managed an A.
Very important to take notes and go to class. Print out her powerpoint lectures to take notes with. The class isn't easy but it's interesting material. Make sure to at least skim over the text before taking tests or quizzes.
Do not take this class if u want to maintain your GPA.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. Supposed to be an art history class but it's basically like learning a new language every chapter. I go to every lecture, read the material, and do everything else she suggests and I am still getting a C! Quizzes and tests are online, even with the help of google they are still impossible. DROP THIS CLASS!
This is the worst class i have ever taken! it is so hard and studying does NOT help. it is IMPOSSIBLE. Drop it if you can. its terrible!
not as impossible as everyone makes it out to be. i would not recommend this class to anyone ever however, its not the end of the world. you just have to GO TO CLASS and think of your own way to study and take the tests. she herself isn't that bad, lectures are boring 90% of the time, and it's A LOT of detail
If you take the time, the class isnt as hard as most people make it out to be, but this women should not be a teacher. She doesnt care about the students at all, wont respond to emails, and makes art a chore.
Very hard class. Everything is basically in a diff language and attending class is mandatory. Sit and stare at art while she talks about it and you take notes on anything and everything she says because tests Qs can have info on it that she briefly mentions in class. By far most boring class ive ever taken at ISU
If you know whats good for you, you will NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. She is the most boring teacher ever the walk the face of the planet. All of the quizzes and tests are online and all she does is read directly from power points by rote in lectures. Even with a mic on, SHE TALKS LOW AS HELL so you can't understand her. Just..no. Don't do it.
Exams are hard. Half the stuff thats on them weren't covered in class or covered very little. This was supposed to be WORLD art but it was really Asian art, I was expecting more of an assortment of cultures. The teacher was super super boring.
The HARDEST class I have ever taken. The test are impossible even though they are online and study the notes before. The lectures were boring and everything she says made it on the test...even the smallest details. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!!!
If you've ever taken advice from this site, AVOID this class... seriously. The material has the potential to be interesting, but the professor makes it unbearable. She's rude to students who interrupt to ask questions for clarification. She acts like students should already know what she's talking about, as if everyone's passion is SE Asian art.
Exams are online, students are expected to: "take the high road" and not take the exam together, use the internet, or ctrl+f through notes... and believe that others are not either. Right. Can you say delusional? Unless you seriously dedicated hours of studying every day, there's absolutely NO WAY someone could get an A without "cheating."
TOTALLY DREADFUL PROFESSOR. NONE of the material in class was covered on the exams, you never knew what to study. She is awful. She wouldn't respond to any of my e-mails when I asked for extra help, so it is hopeless. Get out while you can.
She will give quizzes and exams questions that have nothing to do with the lecture material. Even though, she says the majority of questions comes straight from the lecture. My suggestion is BRING A TAPE RECORDER FOR NOTES. The first part of the class focuses on architecture, not art. Very boring class. Lousy teacher. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!!!!!!!!!!
All of these comments are spot on, do NOT take this class if you can help it. Worst class I've taken, no question about it. Bring a tape recorder or literally write down every word she says. What a waste of a course... could have been interesting but she made it UNBEARABLE. I typed out all my notes and then ctrl+f'ed through them during the exam.
This class is horrible. So boring, claims you need to study 6+ hours per exam to do "well". If you take it, bring your computer and type EVERYTHING she says onto her PowerPoints, otherwise you will not have an easy time with it.
This is the worst class I have ever taken in my life. Your entire grade is based off of 5 exams and 5 quizzes that are all set up for you to fail. I am an honors student and struggled to get a B in this class. Lecture was horribly boring. AVOID AT ALL COSTS.
Lectures do not follow the textbook order, which makes reading with the lectures impossible. Heavy emphasis on religion Q's on exams. Used small details from lecture on exams and quizzes, emphasis on vocabulary from other languages. Extremely difficult for a GenEd. Try something else.
Honestly, even if you think you might be interested in the course material, avoid this class/teacher at all costs. Her class is incredibly boring and her tests are impossible. It's almost like she wants you to fail. AVOID AVOID AVOID
Absolute worse class I've ever taken! Terrible public speaker and made the classes so boring! Close to impossible to do well on a test. The highest grade I got on a test was a C. DO NOT take this class unless you want to fail!
Awful, awful, awful, awful. This class is a catastrophe. She may be the worst teacher I've ever had in my life. Don't even bother with this class, it will be the biggest mistake you make in college.
This class throws so much information at you, you're head will be spinning just after day one. I suggest copying all the power points and your notes into a word document and using the ctrlF to search for exam answers since all the exams are online- this is the only way you will survive.
This class sucks because we don't like art, but honestly we have over 100% right now because we take notes on our computers in class and we take every test and quiz in a group, one person at a time. If you take your time and pay attention in class, you'll do fine! She also gave a us a lot of extra credit quizzes.
SAVE YOURSELF TIME AND MONEY AND DO NOT TAKE THIS COURSE! Unless your trying to fail a class.
SUCH A HARD CLASS! it is like an art class and a history of the world class and a religion class all in one. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. it is not worth it
This professor is terrible. She goes on rants about things that are absolutely pointless and then asks about them on tests. The only way to do good on her tests is to BE HER and to be OBSESSED with every detail of rugs and rocks....I've learned nothing about art, just History...and this is not a history course!
This class is very difficult because it's not something most of us want to learn about, but it's your own fault if you don't get an A. All the material is there, you just have to find it for the tests. Lots of extra credit, lectures really aren't that bad
HOrrible teacher, terrible with notes, tests are near impossible
WORST. CLASS. EVER. only take it if your obsessed with small details about ancient Asian art. and if you love hearing someone say "uhm" 400 times in an hour. (yes, we counted) worst class I have taken here. save your money, take music.
If you are planning to take this course because you love art history don't waste your time. You learn more about religion and culture than the art behind it. And the way it is taught makes it seem dull and boring. On exams only around 25% of questions are art related.
literally the most boring/dry class ever. If you are taking this because you like art, don't even bother. She literally talks the WHOLE ENTIRE class period. So hard to follow and its difficult to pay attention since she's so boring. Try to avoid this class at all costs
Worst class EVER. There are 5 online exams, but they are so detailed oriented. only good thing is the optional pop quizzes online that are E.C. GO TO CLASS or you 100% will not pass this class because of how much detail she gives in class that isn't on the powerpoint. If you can... AVOID this class for the global studies fine arts gen ed!
Literally the hardest class ever. Getting 4 A's in my other classes but a C in this one. I've never gotten a C. The tests consist of minor details she touches on maybe once. This class is barely on art. Mostly history. She gave an extra credit opportunity once and when I asked about it she was veryyyyy rude. Do not take this class. Ever.
If you want to take a history class, take this class. Easily the worst class I've taken at ISU so far.
Ok, so my advice to you would be to FOLLOW THE PROGRAM. She's set up a specific program (under lesson builder) and gives you a schedule of what to do when. If you follow this, you'll be ok. BUT it's very difficult to stick to because she doesn't have a lot of due dates and the lecture is very dry. Mostly history/world religion. Not a lot of art :(
Probably the worst class I have ever taken. Lecture videos take forever because you need to write down every word she says. It takes hours. Don't miss quizzes. Do the study guide. Definitely do all the extra credit videos. It is basically an art history class and it is hard. Tests are tough. Avoid this class
She delivers all of her material through online lectures. Basically, if you copy down word for word what she says into a word document and then Ctrl+F through it when taking an exam, you'll get 100. If you skim and don't take notes, you're gonna have a bad time. She bumped me up from a 88 to an A, so I'd say I'm pretty happy with the outcome.
I took this assuming it was an art class. It's a world history/religion class. Don't believe the title of the class. She does all of the notes with online audio lectures and her voice is better at putting me to sleep than teaching. You MUST write down every word VERBATIM from these lectures. It just took me 3hrs to do a 15min lecture. Save yourself
Lectures are given through visual audio files that take a long time to complete due to having to pause and write everything down that she says. If you miss something you're not going to Ace the multiple "mini quizzes". By far the toughest class I have taken at ISU. I wish some of the materials were text instead of her audio lectures.
This online class takes a ton of work. Make sure to take detailed notes on the videos as all the content is covered in the tests/quizzes. Quizzes aren't that difficult, but tests are nearly impossible. Extra credit is offered, but don't depend on it to raise your grade too much. You need the book for the reading quizzes. Good luck, you'll need it!
I took this class online so all of her lectures were videos. Be sure to take a lot of notes with specific details. There are a lot of weekly videos and can be quite time consuming. There is a lot of extra credit offered and I highly recommend doing it all. The tests and quizzes are very hard if you do not take good notes.
