Prof. Shiffrar is very caring and understanding, not only does she go out of her way to teach different styles, but she also ask how she can improve to adjust to our learning styles. She holds review session every thursday, which is very helpful. She makes her lectures fun, and she gets you excited about pysch! She makes you want to learn, explore.

What an amazing professor and I am so glad I lucked out! Maggie cares so much about her students, she is receptive to questions and cares about our success. We had 4 (non-cumulative) exams and she drops the lowest. She is so fun and kind that lecture is fun! I wish I had more professors such as her. I attended lecture and used the book to study.

Prof. Shiffrar is a great professor. She seems to care a lot about her students and is also very funny. She drops your lowest test out of 4 tests therefore you can skip a test if you'd like. Her class is not too difficult and her lectures are engaging due to the dullness of the material itself. She tries not to bore us and she always has snacks!

she is nice, friendly, cool but that doesn't change the fact that her test are HARD. you really need to know everything, and study weeks before the exam. her study guide is not helpful at all b/c all she says the term that you need to know and that's basically everything. her test Q are confusing to her self sometimes too + she bring couple GRE Q .

She is extremely caring and very approachable. Maggie makes sure she makes the lecture easy to understand while keeping it fun and interesting. Save yourself the trouble and TAKE HER CLASS!

Best Professor I've had at CSUN so far! She genuinely loves what she teaches, very kind and understanding! Had her for an 8 am class and she brought us breakfast snacks EVERY MORNING!! Professor Maggie is hands down one of the best professors there is. She is very caring, brings snacks to EVERY class, answers all student questions and makes herself easy to access and communicate with. as many have said that she is caring, and amazing overall. it is so very true. the class can get hard. but TRUST, she does her best to make sure that you understand (GO TO HER OFFICE HOURS). her passion for what she does is so contagious it inspires me to want to achieve for so much more in life.

If you come to class, pay attention, and study before the tests you'll do well. Everything on the tests is in her powerpoints, which she gives you. Best 3 out of 4 tests, plus attendance points is your entire grade. Took me a few hours of studying per test and the question topics are all in the study guide. Also, she brings snacks and is very nice.

Dr. Shiffrar is extremely caring and an amazing teacher. Her PSY250 class is easy, just go to class, take notes, and study for the tests and you'll be fine. The tests are multiple choice and she doesn't include trick questions. I would take any of her classes because I know she makes sure we get the material and do well.

Such an amazing professor. Everything is online and gives you study guides for the exams before them. The exams are multiple choice and out of the 4, drops your lowest grade, so if u do good on the 1st 3 then no final! The homework is simple and self explanatory. This class we great, all lecture and just 4 test throughout the semester. attendance is important as there are participation questions in every class session; there are no papers or projects its just the participation questions and the test. Also she ALWAYS provides snacks for the class which is super nice. Would definitely recommend this class.

Maggie is an incredible woman. She is such an inspiration to me and all of her students. Every day she comes to class with a smile on her face and an amazing wit and passion. I can not recommend her enough. Shes so approachable and she has cool mom energy. The material is broken down into sections and topics so the info is more easily absorbed.

One of the best professor ever, Pure quizzies daily but its super easy. Its only 2 questions on quiz through Canvas. She always bring a snacks. Her exams are all based on multiple choice. Best Pysch professor ever!

She reminds you of that one favorite auntie! Three exams and one final (non-cum), all of which are heavily-based on her PowerPoint lectures, and one of them is dropped. No in-class assignments or homework, but there is a two-question quiz at the beginning AND ending of lecture that counts towards participation/attendance.

Awesome professor. Snacks everyday, hilarious, understanding, very clear. You do have to go to class because of the 2 daily quizzes that have passcodes, but she gives the answers right there. Tests are straightforward. When covid hit, she really took it in stride. Most considerate teacher out of all 4 of my colleges that Ive attended.

She is the best professor, class consists of four exams and daily attendance activities (before COVID-19), she made the smoothest transition from in person to online teaching out of all professors. The material was very interesting as well, the deadlines she provided for online units left me with more than enough time to finish strong.

Sweetest professor, even before COVID-19 her class was one of the most interesting and chill ones. It was disappointing not to have her for in person lectures for the entire semester, she is great! She tells you exactly what is going to come out in the exams and then drops out your lowest score. This class won't be a waste of your time guaranteed.

The professor really cares to have the students learn and understand the material. It can be hard and overwhelming in the beginning, though she's amazing and listens to feedback. She has given us lecture vids and practice quizzes to understand the material! Make sure to watch her lecture videos as they will be on the exams and quizzes.

If you actually want to learn about cognitive psych. TAKE her! If you are looking for an easy A & not learn the material then choose someone else. Honestly, Prof. Maggie REALLy wants her students to UNDERSTAND the material. She breaks the unit down to about 4-5 mini lectures (4-15 mins) a total of 2 units per week. 1 graded quiz after ea. unit.

This course is not an easy course to learn with a pandemic; however, Professor Shiffrar has been one of the best professors I've had. She does everything in her efforts to help us learn material, giving us lectures that relate to us & her whole course is clear-cut from the get-go. Everything she does is to help students out, I'm glad to have her.

Probably the best professor I have had in college yet. The class is very straightforward and you have to do the work, but professor Shiffrar makes it very interesting. I learned more in her class than all my others combined this semester. She knows what she is talking about and is very into what she's teaching. Can't go wrong taking this class.

Maggie quizzes her students ALOT and it was very overwhelming especially in the beginning, but she made a few adjustments to make things more manageable. You have to TRY in her class. She makes great lectures. Went from absolutely hating this class to lovin it!!

At first it could be pretty overwhelming but once you get the hang of the schedule and watch her lectures it is very straight forward. Everything is relatable to life and she made me really love Cognitive Psych. You will learn a lot if you do the work, and it's a fulfilling class!

This class was HARD especially throughout2 / 3 of the semester. It was v demanding&stressful bc her lectures were very dense w a lot info, 2 quizzes p week timed for 10min+10ques. She added 4 min to each quiz & reduced the amount of quizzes towards the end of the sem &allowed us to retake them THANK GOD, drops 3 quizzes &1 exam,Great Lectures:)

This professor is the best professor I've ever had. She definitely takes the time to make sure we are learning. She has powerpoints and posts videos that go along with the ppt. MAKE SURE TO PAY ATTENTION TO THE VIDEOS. If you do, the quizzes and exams will be fairly easy. If you do not then you will be super lost. DEFINITELY RECOMMEND!!!

First off maggie is a dedicated professor. Her class is not easy so if you're taking a lot of classes/ working, you REALLY need to make sure you carve out extra time. I think we were her guinea pigs for zoom classes, she learned how to make it better for the class bc we were struggling, so u should be fine. But I'd say take her in person better!

Actually one of the hardest classes I've ever taken for my major. It IS cognitive psy, so it is not easy. I think professor Professor Shiffrar would do better in an in person class setting bc just like the other students said, it was super tedious for most of the semester (I think bc of the online format, then she alleviated that stress. Oof this class was a tough 1. REALLY HARD especially in the beginning, but just in case it happens to u theres hope so don't drop it! She slows down towards the end, drops a few quizzes, lets you retake some, and drops one exam, She even extended the min. on our quiz. If you have her for zoom u should be ok, I think she learned a lot from our class

Took Professor Shiffrar in the Fall of 2020, but I had to come here and leave a review.. She is a MUST!!! It's a bit of work since there was 2 quizzes every week but she posted the best videos hands down! So informative and seemed very sweet, if only every professor had videos like hers. Towards the end she made adjustments to help her students. :)

This is a challenging class, but it is worth it, makes you work for it. Watch her YouTube lectures, and take the notes according to the slides/questions she's focusing on. Quizzes are worth 100 points, 4 exams, 1 final. This semester there was a cheating scandal with a few students and she docked quiz times to be shorter because of it. Not easy!

Professor Maggie is a brilliant teacher but the student's in this class were not kinda at all . there was a lot of bullying in this class and was very toxic ! overall study her lectures videos and slides alot . she lets retake some new quizzes in the middle of the semester and she drops 1 lowest exam and 3 low quizzes as well :) you can do it !

Professor Maggie is an amazing professor at Csun, her teaching style is very on point and straightforward with her lecture. 4 Exams and Quizzes every week. A lot of WRITING. do good on quizzes and you'll do good on the exams. her class is hard but you just need work hard to get a good grade.

Maggie was the best professor I've had at csun! Weekly quizzes, 4 exams, also some labs towards the end. If you study, and are interested in the subject you'll see this course as fun and very worth learning. Can be overwhelming but just set a time to watch lectures, takes notes, then take quiz. Some quizzes are tricker than others, but she's nice

I would highly recommend Professor Shiffrar! You have weekly quizzes and labs to do which may seem like a lot at first but it's manageable once you get the hang of it. The Canvas page layout is very organized. Professor Shiffrar's lecture videos were really interesting and straightforward. Definitely take this class!

She's very sweet and she really cares for her students. Her class was super well organized with modules. She has really good lectures and exams aren't that hard as long as you pay attention. She curves exams as well. She has been having a hard time with personal life but is there for students 100 percent. Highly recommend.

Wonderful professor can't complain. So there is a requirement to complete 26 credits of psychology research studies you can be part of. I wasn't eligible for any of these experiments. So I had to do the 10-page paper, this was so hard because of the work you have to do for class plus this paper. Really consider this please, choose something else

Dr. Schiffrar is amazing! She is caring, great with feedback, and really gives a lot of time to her students. The class is super organized and clear (no surprises at all)! There are 2 units a week, consisting of video lectures, and a quiz per unit (10 questions). Dr. S is always there for students and is amazing in terms of student success!

I hope Professor sees this comment because I would like to tell her, Thank you. Thank you for caring for your students and although some exams are hard, they are manageable. I will remember your lecture videos because like you say in one of them, we remember what is meaningful. : )

Pretty solid, even when it came to the class being asynchronous! Though I didn't personally interact with her in office hours, her lectures taught enough to pass the quizzes and eventually the unit exams. Labs online weren't so great, but 2 units a week definitely helped me keep busy.

This class is 10/10! Professor Maggie's lectures were so interesting and you can tell she cares for her students. Great organization however, there is A LOT of work. If you are great with making schedules and sticking to them then this is the class for you. Everything on the lectures were on the exams. The amount of homework was the only downside.

Lots of busy work, but really easy. A good class if you are a procrastinator--2 quizzes and 1 Lab every Friday with accepted late work. Rarely showed up to class, spent two days before studying for each exam, and got an A on all of them. Love the professor, learned a lot, and I now use these psych terms all the time. Super cares about her students!

My favorite professors at CSUN. Lectures twice a week posted on canvas or optional to go in-person. 2 multiple choice quizzes each week via canvas (10 questions per quiz & gives 2-3 attempts). 4 multiple choice 50-question exams (incl. final) taken in person. She drops your lowest exam score and quiz score. No extra credit. Very interesting class.

This professor is very organized with her content! There are commonly 2-3 chapters covered and quizzed every week. The questions are much aligned with the ppts. As long as you attend lectures and refer to ppts, it is a well-deserved A. There practice exams before every exam to help you get the feel of the actual exam. Amazing professor!

Maggie is a great professor. She really cares our her students education. You go over 2 chapters each week with 2 quiz's involving the two chapters you went over. As long as you review the PP before you take the quiz you'll be fine you get 3 attempts.There are 3 exams she provides a quiz like test to help study, take them and you'll pass the exams.

The class was super enjoyable, her lectures are very interactive and done in a way where the material really sticks with you. Her powerpoints are always very clear and you can use those as a study guide for the exams which are easy. She's very kind and funny. I thoroughly enjoyed her class so much and would recommend her to everyone!

Easily accessible, and curates her class lectures so that you don't need a textbook and uploads them online. Encourages deep thinking, and has games during lectures to give students the opportunity to get into the mindset of professional psychologists! I was able to get info on joining research studies and prepping for a PhD!

I loved this course! The professor had clear and concise lectures. You do have to attend the class in order to fill in the blanks on the powerpoints she provides, BUT, if you actually pay attention, the quizzes are extremely easy. I found the class to be very interesting and I learned a lot. If I wasn't graduating, I would take her again!

this class is only quizzes and total of 4 exams. lowest exam is dropped. so sad that she is retiring but I am so glad I got to take a class with her as the prof. she is very caring and a great lecturer. she makes lectures interesting

Prof. Shiffrar is awesome. She loves the subject and genuinely cares about the students. She taught in a way where things were relatable and therefore very memorable. PSY 150 is generally an easy class but I think she made it even easier. She also dropped the lowest test grade which is super helpful.
