She's a nice lady and very approachable. If you're having trouble with anything, she will slow down for you and re-explain things. I would take her class again.
Its fun and pretty easy for ppl who had NO knowledge of arabic lol like me :-)
Shes a nice lady. Nice class. But she tends to tell u about quizes a day before its due. SO Be prepared.
she's not that good of a teacher but her class was not that hard. she's aiight
Never gives things back on time. it takes takes her months to grade quizzes and exams. u actually will end up taking u r final exam before u get u r midterm back. does not speak clearly but assumes that everyone understands her jebarish english, doesnt like to repeat things and teaches in a arabic way as far as not respecting her students' opinions.
it's true that she doesn't hand things back soon. It took forever to find out what my grade was in the class. she also doesn't really tell you how much homework, quizzes and exams are worth in your total grade. but overall, she is a really good teacher. she is easy and doesn't give out too much hw. probably the easiest out of the ARB profs.
She is an excellent teacher, helpful, competent and available for questions
very efficient and clear in explaining grammar. Organized in class, and available for after class help.
she is VERY helpful she wants all her students to pass with flying colors. if you know the language and you want the class for an easy A she wont give it to you. The class is based on exams, participation and homework. Show her you really care and want to learn, and she'll pass you.

has a bad attitude
i think she's great..she wants you to pass and will do what she can to help you
really doesn't help when you need it. if she doesn't like you, she's got a bad attitude towards you. tests are easy but lengthy. doesn't always make things clear
I would tell you not to take this class unless your arabic. I have nothing against her personally, but because she has an accent it's hard to differentiate on the sounds shes making (tha and taa). If you do take this class, never miss or else you'll be screwed.
She's honestly amazing! she's very helpful, and trys really hard to make sure the entire class is on track and understanding what's going on. I would definately recommend her.
She is a pretty good teacher. She tends to grade you on how much she likes you and teaches with the pace of students who know the lang. Shes helpful but you have to do your work and study at home too. If you put in a lot of effort you will do good. HW almost everyday and tests are ok(not too hard). Very into grammar at this level.
Maha is pretty hot for a cougar; Arabic is a VERY hard language to learn, but i don't blame her for my inability to learn it. she genuinely cared that i learned the language, even though i never really did...
Not very thorough in her explanations. Quizes were a little hard. Overall she is okay.
If your a girl, don't take this class. When I say she loves the guy.. she REALLY does. She cheated me out on a grade and I had to fight for it.. which I got. If you attend all lectures and study outside of class you should be fine.
I?m so stuck in her class. I have no idea who made this person a teacher. I had to hire a tutore cuz her teaching sucks. She plays favors a lot, cheats you on your grades, and she has her own ways to fail you if she doesn?t like you. I recommend you take 2010 somewhere else and transfer the credit. No good teacher is teaching this class at Wayne.
Awful experience!!!
Worst learning experience in my life. Very bad teacher with a very bad attitude!!! She can make your life miserable for a whole semester. Avoid her by all means.
Maha is the sweetest, prettiest, most amazing professor ever. She is soo cute. She will go out of her way to help you and make sure your doing ok. I love her!
Maha is BEAUTIFUL-inside and out
Best teacher
She's nice but not the greatest teacher. She explains new concepts as if you know them already. Fair grader and if you go to her for help, she loves it. If you try, she will like you
Great teacher. Very clear and friendly.
Maha was the best teacher I had. I took three classes with her and she got me interested in learning Arabic. She is nice and friendly and ha sgreat style of clarifying grammar. I definitly recommend her.
I tried a different professor last semester, and she is by far the best teacher I have. Very helpful and funny. She realy cares that students understand and follow. I would take all my minor classes with her if possible.
Best teacher in the department.Very nice too.
One of the best professors I have ha so far. She is very helpful and knows how to teach the language.
The class was fast pass and a little hard but Maha always made sure I knew what was going on. He always helped when I needed it.
The class itself is not that hard, but she isn't willing to help you when you need it. her quizzes are hard. and she's very serious. I've never seen her smile.
This class isn't HARD, its just TIME CONSUMING. if you put in effort to study a bit everyday outside of class, you will get an A in the class. she's not very strict when grading tests though, but i think she can tell the difference between little mistakes and not preparing for the test at all. she's very passionate act arabic
The best teacher I had. Professional very clear and helful. I recommend her.
Professsor is really good. She grades more on effort, which can be useful for non-native speakers. Do the homework (try your best), come to class, pay close attention, read the book, and you should do well.
Excellent teacher who has experience teaching MSA. She takes the language background of each student into consideration and helps everyone at their level. She really cares about how well a student is learning the language. If you show interest in Arabic and try your best on the homework she will do much to help you. Not a hard grader.
I have had Maha for 5 semesters and she is a person who knows how to teach. She is very knowledgeable and more than willing to help her students.
Maha is a wonderful professor who makes the class interesting and fun to be in. She really wants you to learn, and will work with you if you need help. You will learn a lot from her, I highly highly recommend her. Keep up with the homework, do well on the quizs, and exam, you will be fine! such a sweet heart, can't wait to have her in the future!
Prof. Saker is an amazing teacher. She cares about her students learning Arabic for more than just a requirement, but to actually develop and utilize it as a skill. Class is taught extremely interactively; you will participate in this class guaranteed. It is important to be attentive during class also. Doing that and practicing will be a huge help
is the best teacher ever, i love her... dont be scared take her..
Excellent teacher. Highly recommended
great teacher. very knowledgeable about the subject. shows interest and cares about her student. but you need basic Arabic to keep up.
one of the best qualities of Maha is her superb recognition and memory of the student specific strengths and weaknesses in the language. you feel personalized in her class wether youre a native speaker trying to grasp complex grammer structures or a first timer trying to understand the basics. go to class, do the homework you will succeed.
Maha is one the best professors at WSU. She will go above and beyond to help her students. She makes the class interactive, and makes sure everyone participates. Take notes, do the homework and you'll pass with an excellent grade. Exams are fair. Learn the vocab!!!
Excellent teacher. The best I had. Very committed, organizes, and intelligent . You feel motivated in her class. She has a way of keeping discussion alive. You have to attend and keep with the pace of class. Highly recommended.
Amazing professor. Very skilled at getting everyone involved. Very knowledgeable about her subject. You have to read and be prepared. she is funny, intelligent, and very friendly. Love her class. Take her, she is the best teacher I had.
Highly recommended. I learned a lot. She is thorough in her explanation, and made the literature an interesting subject. She has passion for what she teaches. Don't miss her class, you learn a lot.
Professor Saker is an awesome professor! I've taken her before and enjoyed her class. She helps each an every student regardless if you're a fluent speaker or just a beginner in arabic. She wants her students to learn arabic and not just take the class as blow off class. She is a good grader so its not hard to get an AA-. Do your homework! :)
I took four classes with Maha, that should tell you something. She is a wonderful professor, her class is always fun to attend. She is more than willing to help her students. Show up to class, and participate, and trust me you'll be fine! Do the in class work sheets .. you may seem them again on the exams! I learned a lot of Arabic from here.
Maha is a great professor. She is tough but she does it because she cares. She is always there to help no matter what and if you work she will notice it and help you out. This is probably the only Arabic teacher I liked and actually learned something. She was awesome! Definitely recommend her!
I have had Professor Saker for almost all of my undergrad Arabic classes and have learned so much from her. She is clear, understanding and helpful. She knows how to explain the material in different ways for students who do not understand. Out of all this the best part is that she actually cares about her students and wants them to do well.
I took Arabic 1 with her last semester and she was the best. She is one of my favorite teachers at Wayne State! Take this class!
Absolutely the best teacher!!
I was worried about taking her class, because she seemed tough. But I realized that she just really cares about making us learn. I learned so much from her, and she helped me get out of my comfort zone when it comes to speaking arabic. I'm so glad I took her, because she was extremely helpful.
She can be kind of annoying but she is the amazing!! She is super helpful and her exams are super easy! She cares for her students and is always there to help
I had no background in Arabic before taking this class, and she really accommodated for all students. She is passionate about what she teaches, and it transfers onto you. I have immense respect for her, as she has enabled me to learn so much. She teaches a lot in one class session, so never skip. Excellent. Its too bad she doesn't teach Arabic 2.
If you have some understanding of arabic prior to this class, do not mention any dialect!! Maha is a pretty lenient grader and wants you to pass this class as long as she sees your effort. She's very clear on the structure of exams. Also, she was accommodating of both native speakers and non-native speakers.
Very clear and engaging professor. Caring, amazing teaching. She is unorganized with her schedule and test dates, but the exams are easy and she tells you what's on it in advance. If you participate, show her effort, and don't skip class you will pass easily.
She SHOULD NOT be teaching a language course but only classes in upper Arabic for students who know the language!!! She makes Arabic 3 more difficult than it should be and is very rude, making you feel stupid and small if you ask a question. Very disorganized too. Just don't do it if you are not already fluent in Arabic because you will struggle.
Dont take this class if you don't have prior knowledge about the class. Its difficult & I went to tutoring almost everyday and still didn't get a good grade. Its not worth the stress. She is a nice lady, but this class is way to unorganized. which made it more difficult. Sometimes she would give us new vocab right before the exam & put it the exam
Amazing teacher. I love her. Easy A
Good feedback, slow at returning papers, and an easy class if you study at least for 10 minutes a day.
Great Professor. very knowledgeable and organized. Learned a lot in her class. I will take her again so highly recommended.
I have studied with many professors, and I can say without hesitation that Professor Saker is among the best I had. Very clear and organized in her instruction. Creative and with a great sense of humor.
It's my last semester as a undergrad and it has been a pleasure having Dr. Saker as my professor. She is truly an amazing person. When she lectures you can see how passionate she is about her teaching. I will always be thankful for having him as a professor!
Shes such an inspiring educator. Super talented and charisma overload !!!!!!!! She has a vast amount of knowledge on Arabic literature and language and so much more . Very impressive! I learned a lot from my lecture notes and she went out of her way with office hours to help me. I love her!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
She is good at catching flaws, and will help you make improvement. Participate in class. Great professor !!!She was the most Nice and the most helpful teacher that I have probably ever had. She is also very funny. She doesn't put you on the spot too much, even if she does she will help you out so you don't get too embarrassed.
I had no knowledge of Arabic before this class. Professor Saker made learning a truly enjoyable experience. She has a great methodology teaching beginners. VERY creative and funny. she makes you work for the class, but you learn. Highly recommended.
I definitely recommend her. Great teacher. Very passionate about her subject. I feel I have learned a lot
Best class ever. I am with Professor Saker in her modern Arabic literature. She will cover tons of material in a short amount of time. Gives good lectures that compliments the readings. She really wants you to do well and explains things thoroughly. High expectation but not unreasonable. Very reasonable instructor and course.
I registered for this class last minute and was glad I got a spot! Professor Saker's class is pretty easy. I was able to do well in this class because I knew a few things about the language already. The book is required for the first half of the semester for easy HW. The final exam was easy, it was based on a study guide. She's very kind also!
Dr. Maha is an amazing professor who cares for her students and wants to ensure that everyone is learning.
A great teacher who makes the material easy and you will learn a lot. Take her for a good grade and for an exciting class
She was a nice lady; however, its true that if you are not a native Arabic speaker, you most likely will have a hard time. I personally have a really hard time with listening and comprehending Arabic, and she would speak slower to me which was nice, but she didnt really teach well. If you asked a question, she would answer it but get sassy.
Honestly if youre not a native Arabic speaker, dont take Arabic in my opinion. It's very difficult to learn with no prior knowledge. Class is mostly full of native speakers so she thinks everyone is caught up because the native speakers are caught up. Feels like Arabic 3, not 1. She doesnt respond to emails. Office hours for help? Nonexistent.
This class is not meant for people who are not native to the language or if you know just a little bit of Arabic. I know a bit of Arabic but this class was fast paced and very unorganized. She did show up to our final exam and left us with very little time to complete it and tried to make it seem as if it was our fault. Don't recommend at all!
Office hours do not exist. Even though on the written syllabus there are scheduled office hours. There is a lack of communication through email. She is a nice person. However, there is a lack of communication. When I asked for help in this course. The reaction was that "I wasn't studying Arabic enough". Or "well you choose to enroll into this class
Do not take Arabic if you do not have a background prior to taking this class. I had a family emergency in my family; she did not excuse my absences, and my attendance grade was down if you do decide to take the course good luck because you will need it.
The professor was great and enthusiastic. But this class was "excelled" for non-native speakers and even Arab-speaking students. I would try my best in the class but she is picky about what you put on the exam and will be a very harsh grader. If I were to take this class again, I wouldn't, but there is no other professor that teaches this class.
She's fantastic, the course I took was hard, but she broke it down and made it easy. I do think this course is harder for kids with absolutely no Arabic background, but she is really willing to work with you on it.
awful does not let you share your opinion
If you are not a native speaker do not take this class. If you are passionate with learning Arabic, then learning it abroad or elsewhere. Because there will be a lot of issues such as the lack of help because a large majority are native speakers. The information in the class are only catered to people who already speak Arabic.
