hilarious, crazy, awesome.
She has a kinda funny accent, an indian accent, but it isn't hard to understand what she says. The class is very straight forward, 2 midterms, and a final, and online homeworks every week or so. She gives practice exams before the test that for the most part have very similar questions to the actual test so that makes the tests easy and predictable
She tries hard, but her thick accent really hindered my studies. I had to rely on the textbook to really get through the class. To her credit she does curve up grades but I would recommend taking this class with someone else.
Prof Bhiladwala is excellent. The material is challenging (at least it was for me, a non-economics major) but she does a great job explaining it and she is always available outside of class to help you out. Tests are fairly difficult but grades are curved. (Note: Yes, she does have an accent, but it's easy to understand.)
Can not understand. Useless to go to class. Read textbook but tests too hard. The averages are Cs and Ds. And she will curve is up one letter grade. Big help.
She has the randomest of jokes and she is awesome! Go to all the lectures and read the blackboard notes and you wont even need the textbook. Is willing to repeat herself in class if you dont get something, and is really helpful during office hours. Tests are long and challenging, but not too hard. It is a difficult course tho, but i recommend her!
She's quirky and hilarious, makes the class fun. Crams a lot into lectures and is a little disorganized.. the chalkboard often looks like a bloodbath. But you'll definitely learn if you go to class - good prof overall
No Comments
Very enthusiastic about the class, but her lectures are very disorganized. She goes at a very fast pace and expects you to understand everything easily. Her tests are not straight forward but she thinks they are, average is a C-, and she curves it up 1 letter grade
Go to the lectures. I skipped most of the lectures before the first test and just read the book and got a B, then stopped reading and went to lectures for the second test and got an A-. Huge scale on the final too. Got a 60%, which must have been good, because I ended up with an A- overall.
REALLY GOOD PROFESSOR. PRESENTS A TON OF MATERIAL BUT IF YOU GO TO THE LECTURE YOU WILL HAVE NO PROBLEM WITH THE CLASS. NEVER GOT LESS THAN A 90 ON HER EXAMS. PLUS THE TA, RYAN, IS A GREAT TA WHO KNOWS THE MATERIAL. EASY 200 LEVEL CLASS FOR ECON MAJORS AND QUITE FRANKLY A VERY INTERESTING CLASS
You have to do work for this class! Because the class is quite easy, she doesn't curve as much. I tried pretty hard but got an A-. I like it how she gives class notes for every chapter, I almost didn't have to use the textbook. No surprises on exams, everything from class notes.
It's a bit too early to tell, but she seems really strict - for instance, do not even think of asking your neighbor a question on the material for clarification, she will pick you out in front of the entire lecture (250 people) and yell at you. It's be-littling, she needs to calm down. Other than that, good professor
She goes straight by the book. Attendance is definitely not mandatory. Her midterms weren't too difficult but her final was. She's passionate about what she teaches, but sometimes it's difficult to understand her because she has an accent.
I had Prof. Bhiladwalla for Econ Principles I (Macro). I thought she was great. She's a little strict, but very nice and helpful. It's a lot of material so she moves fast, and you have to keep up with the reading. Overall, if you study hard for the tests, you'll do fine. The curve is exactly the econ department's curve. I'd recommend her.
The professor seemed really strict at first, but once you get to know her she is funny. She's not out to trick anyone on the tests (mostly), but you really have to understand the concepts. I got an A in the class but I had to study hard. I didn't really need the textbook much. Her notes are great.
She does a great job explaining things during lecture. She's very clear and wants you to understand what's going on. She hates it when you talk in class, so pass notes if you really need to talk to your friend. She doesn't mind that. She means well. I Definitely recommend her.
Those who took Intro Micro/Macro that rate her poorly are either intellectually handicapped or did not put in the effort. I dont know what they mean.. she gives you a ton of help if YOU go and get help from her (go to the office hours). She uses clear examples to teach, and as long as you studied you would've been fine for the finals / midterms.
She provides very detailed notes which make the text book almost useless. She tells you exactly what she wants and is not out to trick anyone. Her tests are straightforward, but not easy. She can be intimidating at first, but an A is attainable if you put a decent amount of effort in. She hates talking during class.
Do not expect to learn anything from her notes; just read the textbook and you'll be fine. She tends to be surprisingly unfriendly as well.
Really good professor, teaches clearly like a high school teacher would. her strictness makes you want to strive harder.
Would recommend her. Her voice is kind of annoying, but she gets the point across clearly. She uses good examples to further explain concepts. Mandatory attendance and online hw. Her first midterm was brutal though. Average was a 53 although they're curved based on class avg. Second midterm was better. No surprises though. You study, you do well.
Attendance is an important part of her teaching style; she goes over vital concepts in class. The textbook is a great resource. Even if you struggle with the material, she's willing to work with you as much as you need to boost your grade. I recommend her to everyone.
Tests are really hard but the professor is SUPER nice and extremely helpful. Very straightforward, make sure you attend all the lectures because she explains a lot. The tests took me by surprise because they were so different from what I learned in class and in textbook
She is one of the few econ professors that actually cares. She might come off a bit intimidating but if you come to her with questions she is extremely helpful. She is not an easy grader, but she puts a lot of time and effort into her teaching so it makes you want to do well.
She's ok. There's homework every week, which is not hard, just a collection of exercises from the book. You do not need the book at all. I didn't really attend that many classes and usually didn't pay attention. All you have to do is read the notes that she posts. If it's not on there, it won't be on the test. One midterm and the final. Pretty easy
It do take some time to get used to her accent, but everything'll be fine soon. She will be kinda intimidating at first. She's really clear about what she's teaching. Make sure you read the textbook, attend the class. The exams are not tricky but by no means easy. I know someone who got 4 in AP micro, but seldom attended her class ended up with F.
Prof. is very dedicated to her students and invites people with bad grades to her office to discuss methods of improvement. Crystal-clear info about the scope and types of questions on exams. Fair grading. Expect up to 10 (easy) homework assignments. You'll learn all the important basics in the field. If you do all the homework, you'll be fine!
She is great! her accent is annoying but if you really want to learn take her. tests are not easy but expected material (ignore the long review sheets she gives, useless). the day before the exam she hints about what will be asked in the test. She posts notes for each chapter (very helpful). HW is not hard. You can take points back in exams.
Professor Bhiladwalla is by far one of the best professors I have taken at NYU, so much so that I took her for three of my Econ classes. She is clear in what she expects and actually cares that you learn the material. I would definitely recommend taking her. And so what she has an accent? Most professors do, at least she's good at what she does.
She is a good professor, has everything published online, few homework, takes about 20mins to finish and exams are not hard
Her lectures are not clear at all and very difficult to follow. She does not encourage students to ask questions in lectures and is not willing to help you herself if you are struggling in the class. Would highly recommend you switch out of her class if she is your teacher.
Intro to Microeconomics. Pretty straight forward class. Attendance not required for lecture or recitation. No quizzes. Grade fully dependent on online homework and 3 tests.
She may not be the professor for everyone, but I personally really enjoyed her lectures. Super cute personality, and very straightforward. As long as you listen to class, you don't have to read the textbook and do much intense studying to get a good grade in this class
She gave terrible lectures. She was rude. She yelled at students and mocked their questions. I learned nothing and had to read the textbook to get by.
I took her Public Econ course, an upper level Econ elective. Easily the toughest course of my undergraduate career, but thankfully the course material starts off super tough and gets increasingly easier. She's a very fair grader and is very willing to help students out when they need it, but is a confusing lecturer -- the textbook will save you.
Intro to micro. The class isn't tough, and she's always willing to help if you go to her. She goes through her powerpoints quickly, so its important to sit in the front so you don't miss anything. Read the textbook and go to class. You'll be fine.
Maharukh is very clear when it comes to teaching. She presents the information in a way that people will remember. Sometimes what's on the exams doesn't necessarily correlate to the examples you get during recitation. She goes pretty quick during lectures. She's also pretty funny, but can get kinda harsh when answering questions - she has no chill
Class is lecture based so dry at times, but Prof. B does a lot to make the material interesting. She often creates funny examples and expresses herself very well. She is willing to help and allows scratch work credit on the midterms. Study and come to class and doing well is very possible. Prof. doesn't try to hurt your grade.
Intro to Macro. I took this class with her and she's not bad. If you stick to the book you will do good, if not, her lectures confuse you even more. she has her own slides which she doesn't post on the website, and they are pretty confusing. She is not a great lecturer and very unclear. But if you stick to the book you can get a good grade!!
She's moderately clear in class although her slides make things a little confusing. If you read the textbook, you should be fine but attending lectures definitely helps as well. She is willing to help you and sometimes gives extra credit for scratch work on exams.
Intro to Macro. Capable professor but not particularly inspiring or interesting. Lectures can be dry. For exams, read the textbook + work on the recitation problems & practice midterms. Some Qs on the exam wil be very similar to those. You can skip lectures + recitations if you are willing to put in work for the exams
I took Maharukh back in freshman year for Micro, and hated everything about her. Now, in Money and Banking, I really understand and appreciate her teaching style. She is one of the smartest Econ profs at NYU, and it really shows in her lectures. As long as you attend class, pay attention, and study your notes, you will get an A.
I found this class very challenging, but so worth it! I really learned something and can now grasp the concepts conveyed throughout the semester. Professor Bhiladwalla is very clear during lectures and uses concrete examples to make the information stick. She even gives scratch points on the exams! I would definitely take a class with her again.
Professor Bhiladwalla is knowledgable for the M&B course, has been teaching it for a long time. It is important to attend her lectures, as she shares many tips on what will come on the exams. Her exams are usually easy but she sometimes puts in an ambiguous question once in a while. strict on phone usage in class. Uses lots of real world examples.
She can be stubborn and tough, but she teaches well. Make sure to go to class, as she tends to give out what is going to be on the exam during lectures. Put in the work and you will do well.
Her lectures are pretty interesting, but the tests are hard. She can give out extra points though if you ask for it and if she thinks you deserve it.
This professor knows Economics really well, but she is quite tough tbh. However, if you pay attention and do what she asks for, you will definitely learn alot. On a side note, she repeatedly mentions that she would make things hard so that you are better prepared for the econ major.
She's clearly smart and knows economics well. However, she is horrible at teaching. This is because she is so outdated and out of touch with the world that she doesn't understand how to teach college students. She is extremely unorganized too, I wouldn't reccommend ever taking her but if you have to its not the end of the world.
Her class isn't necessarily easy, but if you put in the time and effort, it all pays off. She's an amazing teacher who uses real life examples to get her message across. I definitely learned the most in her class than any other class I've taken at NYU. Definitely not an easy A, though.
While Prof B can come off a little brash, she is an amazing professor and very clear in what to expect on the tests. Each exam wasn't super easy however there were no surprise questions as she tells you before what chapters will be heavily stressed. She also lets you earn extra points for scratch work. It's very important to go to lecture!
She is the best professor for Money and Banking! If you really want an application based understanding of the subject, take her. Non-conventional exams(based largely on Wall Street Journal articles), may seem tough but help you understand the concepts much better. Would definitely recommend her class!
She is responsible and good at teaching! I like communicating with her and she would explain what you do not understand in detail.
the best economics professors I've had at NYU so far. She explained stuff. lol I actually enjoyed going to class and paid attention really well because I learned so much just from the lectures. She's incredibly knowledgeable in the field and is helpful. She could be cranky at times but don't take it personally. Take this class! But study hard.
Great teacher. She is no nonsense but you can tell is passionate about what she does and wants students to succeed. Go to class, READ THE TEXTBOOK, and you should be good. She even throws in jokes and personal anecdotes from time to time. Class isn't mandatory but go anyway because she often tells you a few problems that will be on the test.
Professor Bhiladwalla is an extremely solid choice for the Money and Banking course. She can be quite strict (no phones allowed in class) but its a reasonable expectation because lectures are filled with important information for the exams. She teaches concepts very clearly, with simple words and detailed reasoning so you understand the topics wel
Professor Bhiladwalla genuinely cares about the success of her students, and the class is generally executed in a good way. Her classroom policies are extremely strict, and she will call you out for violating it (no phone, no talking). She in the office is nicer than in the class. Exams are difficult and every single concept will be tested.
She is an amazing professor. I would definitely recommend her. Keep in mind that her classes are usually pretty competitiveso you would need an actual 90% average to get an A-.
What a terrible teacher. The materials are not hard but her qualities and characteristics just make the lecture impossible to endure. I never ever even want to hear about her again for the rest of my life. So glad the course is finally over and I dont need to deal with her anymore. Terrible.
Amazing professor. She knows her material, and is very clear in the class objectives, reiterates important things and makes sure you will take them with you even after the semester is over. Genuinely wants to help students improve. Lot of studying but would take her again.
Her teaching is very rushed, I felt like running a marathon. She knows stuff really well, and if you don't get lost in lectures due to unbelievable speed, they are interesting. She is not particulalry nice, very conservative and sometimes freak out. Biggest minus is that she asks to somehow get exact words in exams. Also useful course.
Professor Bhiladwalla is my favorite professor at NYU. She managed to do something that I've never done ever in my life--actually remembering what I was taught in class. Took her for Intro to Micro as well and she actually made me understood economics. Beware of her grading criteria on the exam as a few small errors will slip your A into an A-.
An extremely strict lecturer, but she makes the class very interesting and there is a lot to learn from this class. Exams are difficult and require good preparation. HW is easy. DO NOT BE LATE FOR CLASS. Professor readily calls people out during class for disturbing or using their phone. Strict but great professor, not everyone's cup of tea.
Professor Bhiladwall is an amazing professor who explains the material to the point and in a very precise manner. She is very very helpful in office hours! Learnt a lot in this Money and Banking class and she teaches it using real world examples so it's easy to relate. Very particular about being punctual; literally tells you what is on the exam!
She forces the material down your throat. She is OCD about being late to class and using your phone. She is outdated both technically and educationally and she should not be a professor in 2020 unless she time travels back to the authoritarian era.
The class is fine. She's very strict; don't have your phone out, don't talk to your neighbor and do not come into class late of else she WILL call you out in front of the class. The exams are pretty hard, but curved. Exams may be curved DOWNWARDS (94 was an A- on Ex1). If you skip lecture, make sure you get good notes from someone.
TERRIBLE. I just feel that all those comments that rate her as an amazing professor are just fake and trying to trick you to take her class. If you have another option please don't take her class you will regret for the whole semester.
WORST PROFESSOR I'VE EVER HAD. The material isn't that hard, but she has a unique talent for making the classes unbearable. Her attitude towards students is focused around penalizing, not educating; the one sentence you will hear over and over again throughout the course is "you'll get a zero". Truly traumatizing classroom experience.
I had a love/hate relationship with this professor. She is EXTREMELY strick and frankly very rude. She is one of the least considerate people I've ever met. She wouldn't take any excuses- you always had to be perfect or else you would "get a zero." However, her lectures aren't bad. The tests were difficult & confusing. Overall, would not recommend.
Very strict but teaches very well. You finish the course sure that you retained the information.
Went on a rant after an online test and made baseless accusations about students cheating. Said would half the time to give the final and said if you dont know the material perfectly you wouldnt do well. Very inconsiderate and outdated. Dont take her.
Among the toughest, most mean-spirited professors at NYU. Has the tendency to harass students baselessly in class and during exams, a totalitarian when it comes to running the class. Professors are usually empathetic to students, but in a time of crisis, she is not the one you want to lean on. I'll never take her class again; save yourself.
Meanest, inflexible professor in NYU Econ Department. Before the start of every exams, Professor yells at students for the smallest thing and I always get stress out listening to her voice and managed to forget everything I studied. Please avoid her at all cost.
Most of the bad reviews are probs from freshmen taking intro to micro who aren't uses to her strict style. She is VERY strict but she's not mean. She's very accessible through email & office hours (before covid). Exams are hard b/c questions are weird and specific, but they're curved. Go to class (on time), don't talk or use phone & you're fine.
Better than other ratings say she is. She is strict and intimidating, but you shouldn't hold that against her teaching. Don't need to open your textbook because she's really good at explaining things. Just make sure you are organized w/ note-taking (took me a few classes to figure out what was most efficient for me), and FOLLOW EVERYTHING SHE SAYS.
I know that she gets a lot of mixed reviews, but if you're serious about Econ as a major/minor, definitely take her class. The class is difficult and time consuming, but the work is worthwhile and rewarding. Go to office hours, all of the recitations, create thorough notes, and take advantage of the textbook--it will become your best friend.
Don't take this course unless you are a teacher's pet and won't mind your professor verbally harass your peers or be unnecessarily mean. She is a terrible person period; she accused people of cheating simply because the average went up after the classes went online when the burden is on her to have prevented that in the first place.
This is the worst econ professor at NYU. She likes exaggerating situations and acts a bit hysterical at times. She is easy to accuse students and call them out in class. She isnt a terrible teacher material wise, its just a terrible classroom environment which many times affects students outlook.
I think the professor was extremely inconsiderate of this pandemic. She doesn't care about your personal problems. She calls people out during tests and makes it harder just because she feels like it. Her lectures were annoying. She was hands down one of the worst (if not the worst) professor I've had.
People judge her because she is strict on phones and stuff but guys come on. If you take her strictness as just funny and look past her slightly screechy voice, you can see she cares about your success, and her lectures are actually great summaries of the textbook. If you go to lecture, you never have to open the textbook. Easy B+, reasonable A
I have really enjoyed taking micro with her. She is strict at times, but the people that say she is a bad person are just exaggerating and can't handle it. If you will put in the time, you'll be fine.
She is so inconsiderate, rude, and difficult to listen to. She goes so fast and pulls exam questions out of literally no where. We did this semester online and she was the absolute worst. Did not make effort to be understanding of people's situations and screamed during the whole exam. Will never take her class again.
This woman was very disrespectful to students and was not flexible when we moved to remote classes due to the Corona Virus. I believe that she should be fired for the ill-treatment and threats to her students. We had to take our remote exams on zoom with the volume up and all of our mics on, making it extremely loud and distracting during exams.
Constantly roasting people no matter in a exam or lecture. She often sends information on email that over-exaggerate situations and for god sake that online final I took yesterday proctored by her personally was hell of a disaster.
taking exams with her is straight up traumatizing. she yelled at us the WHOLE time, while calling out other people for being "obnoxious." if i wasn't so anxious, i would have laughed at the irony. her lectures are informative and it's clear she knows her stuff, but if my camera and mic were not required to be on during the exams, i would have cried
You guys are such babies. She's not that bad. Yes, she will yell at people for coming in late, talking and going on phones but she makes it very clear before class that its not tolerated... Just go to class, remember what she tells you to do and read the textbook and you'll be fine.
She is so aggressive that I, and I believe most of the class want to interact with her during the lectures. And she doesn't give students many chances to have any interactions with her in classes. The homework is super easy but it has nothing to do with the tests. If you are trying to experience the fun of economics, don't take her class.
Had her during COVID and remote classes. Her multiple-choice exams were easy and she is a reasonable professor. Her audio gave me a headache and she does not understand technology. Overall, she was reasonable and her exams mimic past exams. Her TAs are AMAZING! TAs teach better than she does.
I know there are lots of complaints about her attitude towards her students. Yes indeed, she can be very aggressive and very harsh to students during the lecture. Yet, her intuitive explanations and her knowledges regarding banking and securities are incredible. If you are interested in the industry this is the introduction class you want to take
This prof is insanely rude to her students, even through her emails. Treats you like this is your only class and being confused is unacceptable. She doesn't teach during lectures, they're all just a reiteration of the textbook pretty much verbatim. Mindtap settings for hw take average of all your chances, so you better get it right your first try.
I agree that she can sound harsh at times, but honestly her lectures are too good that it makes up for it. If you listen to her lectures carefully, she explains way better than reading the textbook. She really knows the material.
She wants you to fail. She admitted to some mistakes I pointed out to her, and still doesn't care to change them. She is not just low tech, she is no tech.
she gives good feedback, reply ur email usually immediately, what I don't like is she is not a tech person, no camera and the mic is extremely trash at best u miss 1 word every 4 words she says. Its her responsibility to afford a mic instead of using potato as the mic. she forced us to take exam out of class time and i have to skip other classes.
She is actively looking to fail people. She uses collective punishment based on rumors of cheating and doubles the workload for the final. Her practice exams are riddled with mistakes. Never take her class if you want to remain mentally stable.
Do your very best not to get her as a professor. She will refuse to answer questions in class, and actually makes fun of students/implies that theyre stupid for the questions they ask. She also uses collective punishment for mere rumors of cheating. Be prepared to teach yourself the entire course, and make sure you have good study buddies.
This professor makes this class unbearable. The grading system and structure of the class is designed for you to fail and the prof gives little to no additional help. Her practice exams are riddled with mistakes and she converses rudely with students in class and over email. She does know the material really well, I will give her that.
prof who refused to use class time for exams and refuse to reschedule exam if u have a time conflicts with other classes needs help, I'm lucky enough that my midterm was 2 day before my other midterm that took place at exact same time so i only need to skip my review lecture. my friend got 0 for midterm for his math midterm cuz its more important.
Her notes are copied from notebook so you get 10+ pages single spaced notes every chapter. Plus she's just reading her notes during lecture, making understanding materials much harder. Don't know about other course but don't take her ECONUA351.
Do NOT take this course online. I am sure she was fine in person, but online was a nightmare. She was not accommodating to students affected by the pandemic. She accused her entire class of cheating because ANOTHER professor (not even another econ prof) told her his class got caught. After her accusation she decided to make the final EVEN harder.
Micro is the worst experience I've had at NYU. Writing this as we approach finals, I haven't attended class in 2 months and am doing fine. You may have to take her for a pre-req as I did. Focus on getting the grade, don't waste your time with her needless politics, and find the best TA you can. Avoiding econ. at CAS from here on out.
Perhaps her class is great in person, but online was not good. The class average is currently a 68 and it was suggested that it's because we read questions too quickly. The more I attend lectures the less I understand. Its really just about getting a good TA and reading the textbook. It just doesn't feel fair to pay so much to not learn anything.
Took this class and absolutely hated it. I am an Econ major and this class made me not like Econ most days. The teacher is rude especially when asking questions. She gives us quizzes that look completely different to the textbook. The book itself is basically useless because she purposely doesn't use it. Don't recommend taking her at all.
I was an Econ major until I took her class, almost everyone in the class doesn't attend the lecture and she calls and yells at students and made this class much more difficult than it actually is. She is the worst professor I have had at this school and I recommend no one take her and take a different class. Save Yourself.
It's almost finals and I wasn't planning on doing this but here I am. I took AP micro in high school and it's my biggest regret that I didn't take the AP exam just to take a micro class. She makes things x100 confusing and her quizzes are irrelevant to her lectures. She is nice but her teaching style is just a big no for remote learning.
Terrible at explaining economic concepts because she barely understands them herself. Practice exams and practice questions are riddled with mistakes, so you won't know if you're doing anything correctly. Wastes your time for the first ten minutes of the exams, as she won't stop talking. Avoid if you want to stay sane.
Honestly a lot of people are bashing her on here and I understand why but it's a little unjustified. She's awful over zoom, can't work a computer. I've never had her in person tho, and it seems like she knows her stuff. She's very passive aggressive in her emails and language. The difficulty is definitely not a 5, people are capping.
If you think she's yelling at you. She's not, that's just her voice. She's not actually angry. If you actually wanna learn economics, take her class.
I honestly don't understand why she has such harsh reviews. She's a great professor, goes a little fast but knows the concepts like the back of her hand. Very accessible during office hours. Doesn't let you use your phone in class but I dont see why that's a disadv. Lectures are concise and exams are easy to score on. Definitely take her class
She is so funny. Not intentionally funny, but just has a funny personality. Yes, she may not be the most approachable person, but she is a great teacher. She really knows what she is doing and the tests are all based on what she teaches in class. I never even looked at the textbook but I went to every class and still did well.
she's the best professor for econ!!! clear grading criteria and you'll easily get an A if you put in work. she tries very hard to ensure that you understand the concepts. 10/10 recommend taking her class
The class moves at a very fast pace but if you go to recitation it's very doable. She can seem very harsh but is actually a little funny and is a relatively good prof.
I have never had a more unprofessional professor in my life, she screams at students during class and does not allow students to ask questions during class. She is also extremely rude, if you have a question and she thinks its not important she will not answer it. Rude and a waste of time DO NOT TAKE MICRO WITH THIS PROFESSOR.
seriously one of the meanest and scariest profs ever. do not take this class unless you have to.
DON'T ATTEMPT THIS PROFESSOR. I would address this in the most fair and objective way: she tries her best to prevent you from getting a good grade. The class note were extremely heavy and she intentionally didn't post them online. Due to covid, most of the finals were taken online. She refused to do so and asked us to wear DOUBLE MASKS to the test.
Stay away from her. Everything from lectures can be learned online, and worse still she was super unreasonable in regards to the final--ramping up the difficulty deliberately to make it almost impossible because of a shift online. She's prioritizing spite over student safety, and it's frankly ridiculous and unprofessional.
Is very willing to spend class time berating a student for being on their phone/talking in the name of preserving class time, but it takes up a lot of class time. Like, actually. She also does not like answering questions, but you can ask questions, you just need to be prepared to self-advocate VERY HARD to get it answered/ask multiple times
She's helpful and accessible after class. She is strict but because she doesn't want her students to get distracted (e.g. with the no phone, no talking policy). She covers material fast but takes time to clarify doubts.
I simply don't believe that she has a desire to help her students succeed. I'm in my third year at NYU and she is far and away the worst professor I've ever had. Just seems like she does not like her students at all. Some say she's just being harsh to help us succeed but she's terrible at emailing and unhelpful in small settings.
hands down the best prof for Econ. idk why she has harsh reviews- honestly that's just people who're not managing the class because of lack of effort. attend lectures and recitations and it's a free A
I wouldnt recommend taking her class esp if youve never taken Econ before. Her notes are hard to follow & she rushes through topics while ignoring students questions. Unprofessional, rude & impatient. Her lectures are a waste of time, ur better off teaching the material to yourself. Still, tests and homework are reasonable, everythings curved.
Her emails seem very intimidating, but she's not like that in person. You can definitely tell that she knows what she's teaching very well, but the teaching part is the problem: she uses Google Docs instead of Slides and lectures are very fast paced. Because of that, I didn't really learn that much from lectures. The textbook was my best friend.
Disrespectful towards students for getting the wrong answers and makes asking questions very hard.
most awful prof i've had at NYU. her lectures are streams of consciousness and she rushes through topics extremely fast; has no intention to help students succeed. wouldn't recommend
Just finish the 1st midterm, don't allow us to use advanced calculator. So bad
Everyone I know in the class has extremely choice words to say about her...you can assume. Overall, just avoid she makes thing more difficult then they need to be and just not very accommodating in general. Avoid.
overall she is a pretty good pro as long as you follow her in the class. yes, she will be harsh sometimes and yell at someone who use their phone during the class. but that's because you break her rules. follow her rules and listen carefully during the lecture, you will be okay. she is pretty accessible out of the class as well.
Prof. Bhiladwalla is a gem in the econ. department. She absolutely knows her stuff and will actually teach you useful things in her money and banking course. Those who rate her poorly most likely don't know how to act in a class or think they shouldn't have to put in work for an A, so don't be scared to take her.
her class is all memorization and the last exam is 40% of your grade. Get ready to listen and shutup, you will be judged on incorrect answers and she is the equivalent of a drill sergeant. Take this class only if you have a thick skin and don't complain when she shouts at you. Curve is very generous, average grade was a B+.
Just took the first midterm for Microeconomics and got an A-. Tests are very fair they're almost identical to the questions on the practice tests and practice recitation questions. Only thing is that she is really harsh and lectures are not great. Rely on the textbook and practice problems and you'll do well at least for the midterm.
Overall Good if you go to classes.
Professor is very knowledgeable on the subject. If you're going to complain about not being able to use your phone for an hour during the lecture then don't take her class (like come on). Tests are very similar to practice tests and in-class examples. She often tells you test question answers during class. Overall I enjoyed learning from her.
The worst class I have yet to take in my college career. Her teaching materials are very confusing as she uses Microsoft Word which contains very disorganized notes that she only shows in class. Prepare to teach yourself everything even after attending every single class. Exams are very confusing.
The exams are doable as they are similar to the homework and she essentially tells what's gonna be on the exam but that's the only good thing about the professor. Arbitrary rules and strictness make the learning experience quite miserable. I don't think I came out of this class with anything other than a grade, take if you have no choice.
she's a good professor. participation isn't graded, but don't skip, its a lot of material!! the exams are fair-ish, she even tells you what's going to be in it the lecture before test day. This isn't an easy A - but as long as you put in some serious effort, you'll be fine. I advise forming study groups and attending office hours.
Lectures are very straightforward, and exams look like homework a lot. She will also let you know what topic will each question on the exam cover specifically.
Prof. Bhiladwalla is an extraordinarily excellent professor! She is very strict on the on-class performance of students, and she explains everything very clearly and understandable. She replies to emails often and answers a lot of questions. Her classes are challenging, but she successfully builds a preparation for intermediate level of economics.
class is on the easy side, professor is great
An Instant 1 out of 5 for her overly restrict policies, and I have to spend 100+ dollars extra to buy her required textbook + a calculator that matches her fantasy.
Do not take this class. She only wants to teach a student who knows everything; otherwise, she wants you to drop this class.
hard to get along with; love to spend much cursing students who are late
No matter if you think you can handle her, DO NOT take any classes with her. She has an accent, cannot speak proper English, and teaches poorly. She will also kick you out of the class for using your phone and stop the lecture until you leave the classroom. She definitely has tenure so you can't really do anything about it.
So much memorization, only take her if you love reciting or you will never get an A
Professor Bhiladwalla is a racist towards students of color particularly east asian students. She stated in class to another east asian student for not being on time to midterm "do you do this in your own country too!!!!". This professor should be reported to NYU bc this behavior should not be permitted at NYU. NYU stop hiring racist professors!!!!
Harsh rules, engaging lectures, very knowledgeable about the subject. Thoroughly enjoyed the class
Her welcoming letter is scary, but don't be scared. She is not that bad. She is strict in lectures, but the recitation questions, textbook and cengage mind tap should get you to an A no problem. TAs are extremely helpful. She felt like an NPC to me, but I'm not going to complain about her.
she's a bit intimidating at first, and she definitely gets a lot of negative ratings for her no phone policy, but it honestly kept me focused. lectures are engaging, she's incredibly knowledgeable, and she's hilarious! exams are fair if you study/attend lecture and she tells you what's going to be on it prior. she's an icon, she's a legend.
Prof is a very nice person when you get to know her - lectures are okay but her materials and TA are p helpful.
I would describe her teaching style as tough love. She is pretty harsh, but it is all to force you to engage with the material. Her lectures are a bit hard to follow (I struggled to pay attention), but you should still go as she will tell you what topics will be on the tests. Overall a pretty straightforward class.
Her class rules is quite strict, but apart from that everything is fine. She is quite accessible, given that you can deal with her ego beating comments. She explains concepts relatively well. Go to lectures and recitations, you will be fine.
Difficult but meaningful class. She uses her notes and adds some pieces from the Wall Street Journal. The whole class will strengthen your understanding of economics significantly.
Yes, i p/f this class. To be honest, she is a really strict and great professor but the class itself is hard. If you want to take any 2xx class, other courses would be better instead of m&b.
I think she's better than some of the comments have said. You have to buy online books, homework sets, and calculators that fit. She explains concepts well, but she doesn't provide slides, so though she doesn't take attendance, don't skip her classes. She tells you what will be on the exams, and provide practice exams. The difficulty level is fair.
def a bit tightly wound, but she is very clear about her expectations and grading criteria. TA's are very helpful and accessible. lots of content and material to study, not an easy A. exams were reasonable and also curved. hw is not helpful for exams, wish we had practice exams to prepare. tells you what's being tested the class before the exam.
The professor, during lecture, often talks about what would appear on the exam. The exam questions would also appear word to word from her description. Very humorous during lecture and extremely insightful. Won't hesitate to chose her as her only requirement is no phones for 75 minutes, which shouldn't be difficult to follow.
Would not recommend
you have to study a lot for a good grade in this class but not that hard if you do -- probably the most useful course in the entire econ major sequence. prof always tells you what questions are going to be on the exam and is super helpful if you are committed to the class. lectures are always super helpful, TA's are all incredible too!!
simply mean about everything. insult students who are late
She's amazing but the course is difficult. Lectures are important even though there's no attendance. Get ready to study extra hard for this course. But at the end it's worth it.
Does not depend on the textbook, and lectures herself using a blackboard. You will be fine if you go to all of her lectures and listen carefully. She tells what she will ask on the exams and what answers she is looking for. She may be harsh on some students time to time but overall she is a nice person.
I never wear check the traffic light when walking to this professor's lectures because I want to get run over before I arrive.
Challenging course, but worth it. Lectures are crucial - stay engaged and use resources like unstuck AI to supplement your learning. The professor is strict but knowledgeable. If you're committed, you'll get a lot out of this class.
Lectures and notes are very confusing. Exams are more complicated than what she teaches and assigns. Also yells at you for being late and having phone out.
the rumors are true about her yelling at students for being late and going on their phones during class, but she is just an extremely dedicated professor who wants students to respect her time. questions on exams are no surprise, but she does expect really specific answers which is a pain. def only take if u need to
if you make mistakes on exams, she condescends to you and doesn't help you get better, just says "you lost this part". in terms of supporting her students, she doesn't answer any questions that are not hyper specific on the basis of "I'm not reteaching the lecture"
She's super strict and can't teach clearly. I got 5 in AP microecon but can't understand what she's talking about. Her slides are so confusing, long, and full of long sentences. 88% GPA for three tests and the curve is so light, about equal to zero. Donno why she got 4.4 on rmp when I was selecting courses. F rmp you deceived me
I started this semester thinking she was a good teacher, but I realized the opposite. She overcomplicates everything, making it hard to take notes, and struggles to explain clearly. Most peers agree. Her final exam highlighted her teaching failures, and her classes, though called "essential," are useless. Save yourself a headache.
Hard to understand and follow, NYU please hire better professors especially for intro classes.
Out of every lecture in the class I could pick out about 3 examples of hers that made sense, every time she introduced a topic the textbook was clearer and easier to understand. Take a better lecturer and save yourself the trouble.
Tough class and she is very strict with phones and tardiness but you will learn a lot. Probably one of the most useful 200 level econ courses to take. Tells you what will be on the exam beforehand.
Might seems strict, overall good professor. A little asccent, but clear enough to understand. Not too hard exam. do curve the grade. one of the best Econ-UA 2xx courses alongside with Urban.
Can actually learn how things work if you stay humble and obedient. Curves it at the end so it's not 93%+ to get A. However the final grading is vague, homework is graded on average and exams is calculation-heavier than other profs. Avoid if you are below-average clever or sluggish about work.
She makes the tests extremely difficult, and is extremely strict. Her feedback on improvement was not helpful!!
Her teaching is awful and her tests are very difficult
Prof comes off as strict, but the class isn't too bad. All the major exams are mcq, and the curve is pretty generous. The textbook helped a lot because her lectures are a bit confusing. As long as you read the text book the class shouldn't be too bad.
She can be very rude at times and will yell at you in front of the class if you come late. Her notes are also very messy and hard to follow. However, the class itself is quite easy and the exams are extremely straightforward as long as you studied. Put in the work and you'll get a good grade.
Exams are confusing compared to other material-- prof gives nit picky questions that aren't explicitly gone over in material. Homework isn't bad, just do all the practice problems and read the textbook because her lectures are not that easy to understand.
This professor destroyed my phone and my career I had to study 3 classes amount for this one class and it did AoE damage to my other grades plz avoid this professor at all costs. I would unalive myself before taking another one of these classes BEWARE
she continuously yells at kids during exams loud af disturbing the rest of the class that's in the lecture room trying to focus. so disturbing. very angry 24/7.
Lectures are thorough and you can tell she cares a lot about her students and their success. Exams are very straight forward and mirror practice exams, sometimes even having the same exact problems. If you attend lecture, pay attention, and study for exams, you will get an A (those who are complaining probably dont go to class or study)
Bhiladwalla is the best professor I've had so far. Money and Banking is a hard class, but she knows the material and gives a good lecture. If you listen carefully to her lecture and take good notes, you will get an A in the exam (the curve is generous for the final)
She is a good professor even she doesn"t like use computer. For money and banking, writing on board is a better way to relate each part to learn.
all the comments are true, she will be willing at people and be kinda rude. but if you're able to get over that, class content is actually pretty interested/relevant. if you pull up to class and pay attention exams are fine (she tells in advance what sort of stuff will be in the exam). if you're interested in finance then take it, but will be work
Some people may call her strict, but that is not always a bad thing. She did yell at people for being late at the beginning of the semester but slowly stopped. Lectures are not super needed if you just read the textbook, but will be helpful for graphs. For exam practice, complete all of the recitation questions / look at the solutions. All exams MC
Her MC exams are pretty bad she is a harsh grader, but she does tell you what is on the tests if you show up to class, and take notes regularly. She is a little strict about phones (she kicked a kid out for it), and showing up to class on time. But overall, not too bad.
she can come off as mean, but she is an amazing lecturer. exams can be hard/graded strictly but should be find if you do all you reading, review lectures, and do practice problems provided. she gets so much hate since she bell curves pretty strictly, but you definitely learn a lot in this class.
She is super strict with her policies and will come up to you and yell in your face in front of 200 people if you have your phone out in class. Midterms and Final take up 90% of your grade so it's super test heavy. I dropped it for a less intense class.
I really enjoyed her Intro to Micro class. She is very strict and will call you out if you come to class late, but I thought she did a good job of teaching during her lectures. The homework she assigns and the practice exams were also really helpful. She's also easy to access in office hours.
She's a good teacher, not a great person. She teaches the material well for sure if you go to class regularly but she's hella mean if u come to class late/use ur phone its kinda OD. Exams are hard for sure but if you go to class often she tells you a lot of whats on the exam. Homework is light just mcq's.
She's the reason I'm pass failing and retaking the course later. She's good at teaching but she can ask about things she hasn't gone over in the exams. Her midterms are mcq's but are very difficult nonetheless. The class is interesting but it will tank your gpa if you're not blessed with micro skills by the gods. DON'T TAKE HER!!! You'll thank me.
Prof Bhiladwalla is fine. Since I took econ in high school I found this class easy as it was a review for me, but if I had no prior knowledge of economics I would have been very lost. She is funny but not always good at completly explaining the concepts. If you miss one lecture she will not go over it again, so attendance is pretty important.
I thought my life was over but I went to her office hours and she helped pass so thank her for that
Her lectures are meandering and do a poor job of explaining fairly simple concepts. Tests are extremely difficult and have little resemblance to practice material and in-class content. Avoid taking her.
All the RMP reviews for this class sum it up really well. The class isn't easy by any means but Prof. Bhiladwalla is fair. She'll explain what's on the exam and leaves lecture slides up when they discuss tricky concepts. Cannot emphasize enough how important it is to go to lectures and actually pay attention! That'll be your best test prep.
Run!!! Pretty much what everyone said tbh. If you need it for your major, take it next semester or change major like i did (she could be helpful, but if you're not doing well, she'll tell you econ is not for you and to change your major)....If she's your only option, all I can say is pray! If you don't have a religion, pick one and start praying.
Horrible. HORRIBLE. She does not know how to spell, her questions on the test are unclear. If you go to her for feedback she will just yell at you. DO NOT TAKE!!!!! The other reviews are real. She is horrible.
Genuinely the worst professor I've ever had at NYU thus far. Her tone in delivering class content and answering questions is incredibly condescending- she will make it a point to humiliate you instead of helping you understand what you're wondering. I personally stopped showing up to lectures mid-semester.
She posts some slides, doesn't post others, you don't know when you have to come to class. Her practice tests are not like the actual ones. She goes very fast, blows through 60 slides in 1 SITTING. I must say, she does give you chapters and stuff of that to know, but she always does some weird twist on tests.
she's condescending and her lectures are just slides however she does teach pretty well so it's helpful to actually attend the lectures. Her tests are all mcq although the wording is often weird and confusing. Her TAs are good too. the 2 midterms and final make up 88% of your grade.
If you decide to take her, gg. I was once in ur position, i read the reviews and took the gamble. I paid the price, do not take the gamble, avoid this infinitely discouraging professor. The best part of this class was that I did not have to attend. other than that, good luck.
I recommend going to EVERY recitation.. I also ended up getting tutored for the final, which helped a lot. The material is not hard; the wording on the tests is just very confusing (it's all multiple choice). Sometimes I felt like the questions were set up to purposely trick u. But if you fully know the material, you will be okay. don't fall behind
Eveyrone that is giving her a 1 is tweaking. The class isn't super easy but as long as your ego isn't super fragile and your fine showing up to class on time and not going on your phone I would take this class. As long as you show up and do the readings you will do well and the curve was like 7% this year, so not that hard to get an A
MB is effective and good at teaching. She is very harsh and will belittle and publicly shame students that come in late to lecture, are talking, or on their phone. With that being said, if you can manage to come on time and stay off your phone, she is totally worth it. Her curves were fair, study guides helpful, and the homework was easy.
Bhiladwalla is a funny and good professor if you attend lecture and recitation. She will publicly berate you if you're late but her class is easier than the other section. Saying that she's bad means you didn't go to lecture where she tells you everything on the test and explains the material in depth multiple times. You get what you give.
The professor is good and explains concepts clearly. If you attend class, take notes, and work hard, you will do well on the exams, since she literally tells you what will be tested. She can be a bit harsh at times, but the class itself is interesting and well-structured. As long as you put in the effort, you'll be fine. The material is manageable.
The TA's helped me get through this class. Drop you're ego at the door. Do the textbook reading, GO TO CLASS, go to recitation and TA office hours. Generous Curve. It isn't all that bad but if you have another option take that one instead!!
She does come off very strict and mean, but honestly, I enjoyed her lectures. They were interesting and she gave many examples that I was able to relate to. She did brutally scold me during a one-on-one meeting for "memorizing" my way through the class, and I was very sad :( but afterwards I changed my study methods and improved a lot on exams.
she's a good professor and funny, the class is just hard and she's pretty strict about certain things like using your phone or coming in late (sometimes she's rude to people who ask questions). Go to class, take good notes, go to TA bill, and you will be good. Her practice questions and exams are really helpful and so are examples given in class.
