New teacher who does not know what he is talking about. Gives weekly quizzes that apply to class notes. His midterms test on questions irrelevant to the content. We asked for his advice to study for the final. and he told us to memorize 2 formulas... avoid this teacher in his first year...
He's a very nice person who's willing to help you if you ask. He's a new instructor so there's still some polishing on his notes that needs to be done but overall I liked him as a math instructor as opposed to many others that I've had at Langara.
If you are good at science, like logical things, he is the perfect professor for you! He is a very clever, his notes are super useful, and logical! It was an excellent experience taking his class. You learned sth, a skill! After the course, you will know how to apply Cal II stuff in other courses, not just memorizing sth for a very short period.
HE'S GREAT!
I took math with him last semester and he was pretty great, was able to explain things pretty well. Gives out weekly quizzes but they do help in the end for studying material. I got an A in his class and I would've loved to take another class with him.
An easy course. He explains concepts clearly, teaches the materials orderly, and marks exams fairly. Take his class!
Study hard and ask the questions you don't understand, then you can do well. In addition to the teacher, there's a MATH Center at C Building. Textbook might be used to activate the access code. Be careful for the material that is rushed through before Final.
Overall, he is a good prof. His notes and lecture are crystal clear. The downside of this prof is that he has only 2 hours of office hour per week so that students usually don't have much chance to get help from him. Midterms are easy (the class avg is above 70%), but the final is really hard, so you need to be well prepared. Thanks for A-, Mahdad.
Crystal clear notes, interesting examples, and cool technology used in class. Really helpful teacher who's willing to help students. Thanks Mahdad.
Mahdad is a great instructor. He is good at explaining difficult concepts, and is always willing to answer questions both in and outside class. Calc I is a very hard course for somebody like me without a strong math background, and it is important to keep up with the material. Midterms seemed fair. Overall, I would highly recommend Mahdad to anyone
Mahdad is a great instructor, his notes are clear and easy to follow. As long as you attend class and follow the examples he solves in class you should expect at least a B. Many of the questions he includes on his quizzes and tests are taken directly from class notes. Thanks for the B+ Mahdad!
'Specifically declined taking the short cut calculus to get this teacher, and was not disappointed. Focuses on conceptual understanding and practical application rather than memorizing formula and repeating the same type problem over and over again. Whether you're struggling with calculus or just want a strong introduction, I highly recommend him.
I took CPSC 2190, Math 2373, and Math 1171 with Dr. Khatirinejad. He will definitely be one of my most memorable professors at Langara. He is very kind, always willing to help, and most importantly, effective at teaching . The exams were challenging but fair. Very smart guy - I would take a fourth course with him if I could. Thanks MK!
the best. enthusiastic about the material and incredibly clear in his explanations. midterms were extremely fair. makes me want to stay at langara to take more courses with him. final was considerably more difficult, but this is a reflection of the math department and not him personally.
Mahdad uses cool technologies, answers your questions and makes sure everyone understands everything. You will have to work hard for midterms but finals are not too tough. Starting from terribly low mark I got 1010 one day. There is always some practice for you if you need more of it, not mandatory though, and helpful videos.
I don't know it is only me or what, but the online quiz was easy at first but began harder after the last half of semester. I had all the notes and stuff but somehow the midterms and final are so different comparing than what we learned in class (not only me, my other friends said that too).
Mahdad goes goes through 2-3 units per class. Almost impossible to follow as he does everything really fast and you barely have time to write it down that he goes to another example. If you ask a question expect a 5 second explanation that you won't understand. He doesn't publish the notes but he follows the textbook really closely. Lots of HW
I'm one of those obnoxious people who asks a lot of questions, and despite that, he had immense patience, to say the least, and tried to answer just about everything I asked. He makes a good class atmosphere and has a fantastic accent. To do well, do the homework properly, don't cheat on it. Try to understand it. Good luck.
Good prof but midterms are kinda tough. Way more tough than the notes he gives
Good prof, teaches really quick. Test are decent
Teaches really quick, very patient and kind. He's good overall.
This is by far the best Calculus teacher ever. He is so great at teaching and he is such a fair marker. His tests are straightforward. His quizes are hard, but that is good because they prepare you for the long run and they aren't worth that much. This guy is hilarious and teaches calculus in the simplest way ever. If you want to do well take him!
Fast lecture but dont blame him, there is a lot in cal2. Try not to skip his class. Quiz are harder than midterms. He points out common mistakes from students in the lesson. Good prof for intermediate to advanced level math player.
Mahdad is one of the best calc instructors at Langara. He is patient, and helpful. His notes are very clear. As long as you do your work and keep up with the study materials, you should be fine. If you have a chance to take 1171 or 1271 with him, DO NOT HESITATE. He is the BEST. Thanks Mahdad.
Best Calculus Teacher! He will help you if you ask. Calculus is fast-paced, but remain strong and do you best in his class!
He is very easy, and the stuffs he talked in class was also easy for us to understand. But some of the online homework is hard, well it didn't count many grades either, so he is great.
His grading criteria are super lenient, that is the answer matters less than the calculation, and even if the calculation were wrong he still deducts few points for that. That's what I got from my second mid-term. He is a generous man and has good accent.
He is one of my most favorite professors at Langara. His lecture style is great and very clear! He gives you suitable homework in the assignment. He will select some of the questions in the assignment for the quiz. For the midterm, it is not so difficult as long as you prepare well. Also, He gives one bonus question at the end of the paper.
His lectures are clear and to the point. He also provides note for class. The quizzes are easy if you understand your material clearly, which he makes sure that you do. He's always available after class to answer your questions. He's an overall nice guy, very pleasant to talk with.
His way of teaching is amazing, just attend his classes, he will cover all the topics. His weekly assignments helps practice all the concepts. Had 5 easy quizzes in whole semester and easy exams
Mahdad was an excellent math professor for calculus. He likes to crack jokes every once in a while making sure his class isn't very bland. His midterms are similar to his quizzes, and nothing on the exam is outside what he teaches in class. That being said, the final was pretty brutal, but it's a joint venture, so it should be expected.
He is so great. His lecture is clear and notes are very important. I followed him for courses MATH1171 and MATH1271. I like him.
One of the best math teachers I've had so far at Langara
After reading some good reviews from the Math courses, I took a chance to try him on a CPSC course, but I was really disappointed. Beaware! Goods: - Funny - Friendly - Easily available Bads: - Repeats examples from book - Lazy and unprepared - Late marking - Course progression is hard to track - Hard exams - Expects memorisation of formulas
His quizzes are challenging but not worth a lot of marks. Midterms are very reasonable but more on the easy side. Moderate to low homework. Overall, a pretty easy class if you put in a little effort.
His notes are clear and concise. Night classes were a breeze with him. 8/8 m8 would integrate with again.
To say that he is an amazing professor is a understatement. He was the best professor I have ever had and you should never hesitate and take him. Explains everything clearly and goes back if it isn't clear. His quizzes were harder than his midterms. The final was hard but that was the department and not him. Just study and should not be difficult.
I studied 1171 with him, and I find it great that he also teaches 1271. He consistently teaches material in an energetic and interesting way. He is also available after class. After the first midterm, he encourages his students to not give up, which is very thoughtful of him. Little things like that makes studying Calculus not a punishment.
Mahdad is great. Teaches very well and is helpful. Quizzes are harder than midterms but if you put in the effort you will do good. Taking notes is a good idea because he only posts "blank" notes online.
Very knowledgeable and concise. Always seems to be prepared to teach and answer any questions. Reasonable difficulty. Quality prof
His lecture is very clear. I followed him in both math1171 and math1271 and succeed in these two courses. The only thing you have to do is working hard and practice. He is nice and patient to answer all my questions.
I do not like him at all.. He makes students learn the stuff but not understand it.. I would not recommend anyone to take any course with him...
His lecture is smooth and organized. As long as you follow his lecture, and do the homework on time, you will be fine for the quizzes and exams.
Mahdad is an amazing lecturer and can make lectures very entertaining. If you don't put in hard work, you will struggle. On quizzes and midterms, you will be fine if you did your homework and revision. Midterm averages were like 60%, even though my friends and I all were getting above 80%. Can't think of a better Math prof than him at Langara.
Avoid taking him for Calc2.
The handouts given in the class are really really useful.
He seemed really bad for teaching calculus 2. He only posted his notes online for like the first week then never again. He doesn't respond to email. The entire class was getting averages around the 40-50% mark. He wouldn't go into depth of much of the topics just briefly cover it before moving onto the other. He also missed like 2 weeks of class.
Honestly one of the hardest profs you could take for calculus. If it is your first time taking calculus, I recommend taking someone else. His notes are based on questions used from past finals which is difficult to understand considering the fact that you are learning the material for the first time. As for his midterms, they are extremely hard.
amazing professor and extremely knowledgable. This was my fourth course with him and I am always impressed by his ability of teaching. There are weekly quizzes that help you stay on top of the material. The midterms were usually more challenging than final in Calc1,2 but for this course I found the level of difficulty to be the same for all exams.
I took Calc without any Pre-Calc. Bad decision but.. Mahdad convinced me to stick with it. I started off failing quizes and barely passing midterms. Yes his class is hard but he's one of the more prepared profs with great notes and good conveyance of . I put in 10 hours a week. He prepared us for the final well. I aced it.
Mahdad is the best professor I had ever taken in Langara. He is the cutest person when he teaches. He is very knowledgeable and delivers the lectures very well. Highly recommended for cal 3.
best professor ever.
I took this class last semester with no previous Calculus experience (only pre-calc 11 and 12) and struggled a lot. Mahdad seems like a nice guy but his teaching style is extremely fast paced and my peers and I struggled to follow along with his notes. A lot of the examples he gives are the hardest questions first. Better profs at Langara for calc.
Mahdad is an amazing teacher, I've taken some courses in Langara but in my opinion Mahdad is the best one yet. He gives amazing lectures and makes me more interested in Math.
Did not put any effort into transitioning online during the coronavirus. Lack of communication.
I mean, Im not gonna lie, the course was tough. I felt like this dudes a solid choice, and I was right. I liked the fact that he tried to be communicative with us, and that he made most of the hard materials seem really easy. He is the best Math prof Ive ever seen in langara
Didn't record and reupload any zoom lectures. Gave us no information with what will be on the final. So have to work off of the two practice midterms that he gave us. At first he let us fill in the skeleton notes during his lecture. After the first midterm he told us just to take screen shots of the notes and fill them in ourselves on our own time.
Mahdad is one of the best professors. His teaching method is very clear. The majority of his quizzes and midterms from the textbook. So, the textbook is mandatory. He doesn't post lecture notes. In this class, participation matters to pass the course. Overall, he is a helpful instructor.
He didn't provide any leaning materials. He would only allow you to take screenshots of some of his lecture notes. What is only reliable is the textbook
There are times where he may get excited and tend to speed up his teaching, but is always welcome to review material if students are lost. While he doesnt record his lectures, he does give you a set of lecture notes to fill out and allows you to take screenshots of the filled notes, which I find to be a real time saver.
Terrible instructor. Gives review questions that are from sections that are not covered in the course. Rambles in his lectures and lets the students interject and derail the conversation too much also no part marks on exams/test He might be better when teaching in person but in an online setting he is one of the worst instructors I have ever had.
He give the test often too difficult, could not be able to pass even done all the textbook and lecture, webassign
assignments had very little correlation with exams/quizzes
Calculus 2 covers a lot of materials (making it a tough one). He has good grading criteria that make exam worth lesser. His lecture is quite hard to be grasped but he teaches well. But you can easily ask him to go back and he'll review it. I did his suggested exercises before the assignment, which helped a lot! kind guy but slow on the email!
Mahdad really wants you to do good. He teaches really well. He gives positive feedback and helps to improve. Quizzes and exams are a bit tough but if you do practice questions from textbook, you will be fine.
I had Mahdad for MATH 1271 and CPSC 2190 and He is really motivated to teach at his lecture. I consider Mahdad to be manageable as long as you do the suggested exercise (quiz and exams are from there). His exam is on the harder side but the hard q's can always be found from lecture notes/exercises. His lecture is the best and I really learnt a lot!
Worst instructor I've ever had. His Mid terms and Finals are not as easy as the assignments are (Webassign), even if you practice the textbook( review parts) it won't help you a lot to be prepared for the exams. Some of the questions in the exams had not even taught ( According to the email that he sent me).
My favourite math teacher. He's super smart and helpful. You can only hate calculus, not this teacher cause he's dope
He is very passionate about math and is a good, fair Prof. His quizzes will be really tough, but they prepare you well for the midterms and final. It's a hard course no matter what but he makes it a bit more fun through his enthusiasm. Be ready to take notes quickly though because he lectures very quickly since there's so much material to cover.
This professor is amazing. He always explains clearly and answers our questions. Such a nice prof.
Mahdad is exceptionally good at explaining things in lecture and he will go over midterms and quizzes after he has marked them which is very helpful and also not super common for math profs. He brings energy to the lecture so its easy to stay focused. Watch out for the exams, they will be harder than anything you see in the HW.
He's a really straightforward prof. His tests and exams are HARD and he clearly states that. You need to go the extra mile in order to keep up with his quizzes, lectures, and exams. He does NOT post completed lecture notes so try to have a friend in class in case you miss a day. He is very good at teaching and explaining concepts. Overall good prof
One of the best instructors at Langara.
Mahdad is the BEST math prof I have ever had. He's fantastic at explaining integral calculus. He is passionate and energetic when lecturing, and doesnt go off track. Grind for the exams by doing questions at the back of the stewart book; there wont be any surprises. Follow the lecture notes and you're good. Partial marks are given. Good luck!!
This teacher doesn't cook in his lectures. Don't let bro cook, he'll burn the school! His quizzes and midterms are hard to prepare for and cover literally everything, expect the unexpected. There's a bonus that you can spend $10 for 1%, up to 10%, for the webassign assignments. I would definitely not recommend to students who are new to Calculus.
good instructor!
Very good prof. This course was hard, but I enjoyed his lectures. He provides note templates that you all fill in class, and he's accessible outside of class and enthusiastic to teach. Would take him again if I could.
If I want to write an honest review, the method in which he teaches is pretty straight forward and his personality is really good for a teacher. But the problem is his exams, Exams are way tougher than what he teaches in the class and you will always end up getting a low mark in exams. but he curves them all up.
good lectures. Watch out for midterms and finals, suggested textbook problems and webassign will not be enough if you want a high grade.
Mahdad is the best math professor I have ever had. He is genuinely passionate for teaching and dealing new concepts, and he also let us know how to solve the questions more efficiently. However, his midterms and quizzes could be challenging than final exam, but his tools for lecture will be perfect and enough to reach your goal!
Calc 2 as I have heard is one of the most challenging courses but I can safely say that I would sit through it again for Mahdad! His lectures are full of passion and made me think if I should major in Mathematics. His biweekly quizzes and mandatory online assignments are really good practice. If you can, definitely take his class!
MATH 1271 is a large time commitment, so don't take it if you're not sure you have the time. Mahdad will do his best to make sure you understand, so ask lots of questions in class about homework questions you didn't understand, grind out ALL the recommended homework questions, make sure you don't fall behind, and do NOT underestimate the final.
I think Mahdad is a good professor. His lectures mostly consist of filling in a blank notes package like other math classes. He has quizzes which can be very easy or very hard depending on the topics. His midterm questions are almost the exact same difficulty as his quizzes. The final was very challenging and focused a lot on earlier material.
Very passionate in Mathematics and Calculus, breaks down concepts very well in my opinion. Does not post annotated notes or allow pictures in class which can be annoying since he goes quite fast. Tests were quite difficult but fair if you did all the homework + textbook questions (study Parametrics lol). $100 WebAssign worth 10% of final mark
He is by far the best professor I've ever met. I've been to many schools before so I can say for sure that you don't even need to read these reviews before taking one of his classes. I am a CS major but after taking two of his classes, I'm seriously considering switching to math major. He's so passionate and his test questions are very on point!
To be honest, his lectures are good but he does not post filled notes for some reason, so a lot of your energy and time is spent on filling out the partially filled notes. Exams are average-hard but everything is from lectures and textbook. Quizzes are ok so I'd be wary if you want to take him.
I took CALC without CALC 12, horrrible choice. Take a calc background test or some before coming to this class 💔 I also got a 98 in pre calc 12 but wasn't enough for this class, to do good at least. Super nice guy though and amazing accent
Please stay away from this professor. When I say he is not a good teacher I mean it, he explains well but the issue are his exams. Those are beyond hard and have questions that are basically from another realm. AVOID!!!!!!!!!!! I did so well in highschool calc but after taking with him, I have learned to hate math. PLEASE STAY AWAY AT ALL COST!
In general, Mahdad is a great and engaging prof who provides helpful lectures, but know in advance that notes are NOT posted. His quizzes and midterms were rather difficult, often requiring a lot of studying and a thorough understanding of the topics. He offers 10% through online Webassign questions, but it isn't worth his difficult exam questions.
This guy should seriously do some math-youtube stand up comedy. He's informative, engaging, and hilarious. I havent taken math in over 2 years, but his clear explanations made things click. Practice lots, pay attention, try not to skip class. He marks fair and his questions are fair. Dont let poor work ethic beat you.. 😭 JUST PRACTICE MORE!!
I would not recommend at all!!!
