Mr. Rajan is a very helpful instructor. His tests are all multiple choice and pretty easy. The only thing that sometimes it's hard to understand him through his accent. Overall, he's a wonderful teacher.
Always tells the class he's at office hours if anyone needs him. Basically uses powerpoints from the book. Cracks some jokes. Havn't done well on his tests cause he covers a lot. People who ace his tests say they read the whole book!
Not too easy but hes good. Class based on tests. No homework but you need to study for exams. He may come off as mean but this guy has a sense of humor.
Not the easiest class, but Rajan teaches well and knows a hella lot bout Marketing. Also helps make class interesting with his witty humor ... ie 'Christmas Cakes'...
Good teacher, helps students when they have a problem. Class isn't that easy, students should read the whole book because he requires them to know all the concepts.
Zzzzzzz, all semester
he knows everything there is to know about marketing.
Great instructor. Very intellectual and very entertaining guy.I would definitelly recommend him to everyone.
I was scared of marketing. Rajan was awesome and now I love it.
He is Great. One of the best professor I have met. His lectures are easy to understand and he is very knowledgable. Gives out plenty of examples and experience. Highly recommended for Marketing majors. You will learn a lot from him.
Very extremely boring class. Didn't learn a lot with him. Always the same examples.
He's has a good sense of humor. This class is just lecture and tests. It can get very boring but he makes the best of it. Just make sure you do the reading and you should be fine.
Dry lecture but cool stuff to learn. Tests can be tricky so study well before exam. Exams are m/c and 2 short answer questions. He can be funny, but still hard to listen to. also 4 pg paper done in groups of 2 due on last day.
Take this teacher if you could show up to class. He has an excellent memory, and he'll remember your name. His book is very straight forward and easy to comprehend, and his lecture is helpful. He's a good teacher, but only take him if you're willing to read the book and go to class.
I don't think he liked me. He seemed unappraochable, but that's my opinion. Other than that, he's very knowledgeable, cracks jokes here and there. If you don't intend on going to class, don't take him bc he rembers faces and names, and participation is a big part of the grade. Very straightforward!
best teacher. take him if you really want to learn the concept in marketing, but dont take him if you just want to pass without putting effort.
unapproachable, but overall the class is easy. dont gotta show up cause his exams are all from the book. just study the definitions aka terms aka concepts and you'll do fine on the MC. the short answers are usually the bulleted or dotted definitions. then he has one paper which isnt bad at all.
Best teacher I have ever had in my four years at San Jose State. He has a lot of real life experience and he went out of his way to make the class interesting and fun. Exams were somewhat hard but we're in school to learn. Take him if you want to be mentally challenged and learn something!
Since class size has increased, he has relied on M/C exams...TOO reliant. Majority of the questions are RANDOM. Questions cover unimportant material, compared to the important information emphasized during lecture. Overall, feel the course and his teaching is compromised because of the class size.
Not a bad teacher, knows his stuff and is clear in his lectures. Case Studies and exams are the grade, just be sure to attend class on a semi-regular basis and I got a B+
Extremely useful and enjoyable class. Dr. Rajan's teaching style and approach is commendable. Case studies and simulation game were relevant and good learning tools. Highly recommended.
Very cool professor. the lecture can be a bit dull but he has a good sense of humor and gave insights in the topic to make it more interesting. the case studies are great. the game simulator is a lot of fun, but also very, VERY demanding. you spend a lot of time in this class even though it doesn't seem hard.
With DeVincenzi, this is the best prof so far for core courses (MBA off-campus). Prof. Rajan is an expert, has huge relevant experience. He should be teaching more often and various classes for the off-campus students. Class is somewhat tough, but this is good - graduate students should be challenged.
Rajan is not approachable for assistance as he claims he is. His lectures were helpful however his exams were tricky. Overall ok class, it was mostly self-taught. 4 exams and 1 paper.
He's not very easy but not very hard. I got an A in his class, so it's not impossible. But you really have to read the book in order to do well on the midterms and the final. The group project wasn't hard, it was just an extra 20 points if you do well on it. He grades on a curve.
Very hard to know what to study for tests, he told me to study from a different way in each exam and the average of the class was a D for all 4 tests (which he curved to a C), says he'll give good points in your paper but didn't. Make sure to go talk to him in his office hrs. Seems like he doensn't even take his own tests before giving to class.
Not helpful at all. He claims that he covers the "concepts" but the questions are very specific and often don't have to do with important issues. I went to class half the semester and didn't go half semester and it didn't make a difference in my test grades. Not a very good teacher but you can pass easily if you do your work.
Rajan is a great teacher. He has tremendous experience in and insights into the international marketing area. His teaching style and the course design are very student friendly and of great learning value. The work was just right and we all enjoyed the steady pace of the class. I highly recommend him for people wanting some real world stuff!
I have no idea how he taught. I never went to class. I got a B though. So he must have been easy. If you don't want to go to class, take this class and study by your self. Exams are mostly right out of the book. Come on, it's Marketing 101, how hard is it?!
I did well in the class. But everything I learned appeared to have been learned on my own. Class size is huge (100+ students), which may account for the ineffectiveness of his lectures. Exam questions are random and lecture can be dry at times. Wish this would have been offered as an online class.
His lectures are all on powerpoint and you could download them off his website, but I recommend that you still go to class. If you read the book and go to his lectures you should be able to pass his class. His exams are on scantrons and it's all multiple choice. You have one group project that is due at the end of the year, but it is not difficult.
His lectures are mainly from powerpoint and only marginally helpful. If you are interested in passing the course without putting in a lot of work, this is the professor for you. For me, I didn't learn much and felt like it was a waste of time. Teaching attitude wise, he is only marginally interested in teaching or caring about the students.
Prof. Rajan is a solid instructer. He teaches the class in very good clarity and keeps us into the subject. I especially recommend this course for those who like open discussions on international business.
Out of all the professors in SJSU, I ain't feelin' this guy. No disrespect, but I was ambitious about Marketing until I took his class. It's interesting about the little facts he includes in his discussion but it doesn't deal w/ the test, readings, etc. There's no sense of passion in his class, he's just there to do his job...which makes it hard to be excited about the marketing world.
Has a tender ego that bruises easily. If you ever say anything he doesn't like he'll get even with you for sure. If you take his class, shut up! Don't ask questions or answer them unless you want a low grade.
Easy professor and class. Most of the material is interesting and the prof has a genuine interest in teaching the course. Shares real-life experiences that are relevant to the class and always makes sure students understand the material. Tests are easy too.
Very laid back style but he definitely knows his stuff. Good simulation game.
he's a cool guy. i would totally recommend him. his tests are easy and the final project is too.
Probably the best 139 prof at SJSU. He lets you out early most days and you don't really need to listen to his lecture to do well on the tests. Just make sure you get the essay topics and study those.
I was definitely interested in this class going into it, but he just reinforced it. I would take another one of his classes! If you want a class that focuses on international marketing, while presenting "real world" experiences, then this is the class!
Good class with lots of practical and real life tips. He uses Harvard Business School cases primarily and they are great tools for learning. Six in-class case analyses and a take-home final (also a HBS case). I would take another class from him.
He's a totally cool professor with a good teaching style. I recommend his class to others.
Rajan was an awesome teacher. Powerpoint slides straight to the point, wouldnt hold you in class (get out 20 minutes before). 4 midterms/final every 5 chapters, pretty easy. Fun guy to talk to. Felt kind of rushed on the project, but someone told me he isn't doing it this semester. Take him for 133.
not very helpful, hard exams, doesn't curve.
I dont understand why this guy has so many high ratings. He sucks!!! He says he is willing to help but dont count on that during his office hours. He's rude, uncaring, and seems like he hates everyone. He changed his layout with 4 tests all worth 25% of your grade. Hard class! Don't take him! and thats all...FOLKS.
I am a student from Europe and I was very impressed with professor Rajan's knowledge of international marketing. I got an A in his class and the exams were very easy and straightforward.
This is one of the more useful and interesting courses in the program. His lectures were well-organized and the workload was adequate. As others have mentioned, he tests every 4 or 5 chapters and there is no final or group assignment.
great
If you have all of the PPT slides and the book you're set for a clear B. Test questions include videos and examples only shown in class, so if you want the A attend class often. He doesn't curve, otherwise it's a straight forward class.
Though he says he doesn't curve, he actually added 20 points to the score. That's alright by me. But, lectures can be a tad dry, could show more videos.
I was very disappointed in this teacher. Tests were on obscure facts in the book; no study sheet. We had one project which he provided little guidance for. He was extremely rude and blew me off when I went to him for help telling me to ask my fellow students for help, but isn't he the teacher? Others in the class had the same experience.
This class was very very hard. Even if you attend class and take great notes, you still have to read the book to remember anything useful for the midterms and final. There was 3 midterms and a paper done with a partner. Bottom-line you have to work hard for a passing grade because historically the class average was a C.
This guy doesnt even know how to spell help, NOT WORTHY OF SJSU marketing professor position!
The first day of class I leaned that i was supposed to haver another teacher who couldn't teach. Professor Rajan was the substitute. I am wishing now that another teacher had been chosen to take the job. When you approach him for help he gets mad that you are asking a question. If you are in his class and need help…don't ask him.
I have never had an instructor more disrespectful or unprofessional. Reading the book and going through power points did not help much on exams because is exams are "common sense"...which means only he knows. I would not with this instructor on my worst enemy. If you want to learn marketing, take another instructor!
He is a good professor and knows his stuff. His lectures are easy to follow and understand. Make sure you study the key terms in the book and go over the power points for the tests. His test are common sense and easy; just go to class, pay attention and make sure you study. He is very professional and knowldgable about marketing.
One group project 4 exams including final not comprehensive. Interesting stuff but his tests are hard it's very important to read the book. If you plan on not attending class you will miss out on extra credit assignments but reading and understanding the book will help you pass the exams.
Tough grader, gives good feedback, get ready to read, a big group project but yet all these is doable. If you try, put your effort, go to class, office hours, he will make sure to try to help you pass.
DEFINITELY AVOID! He says his tests are "common sense" and "self-explanatory", but really the multiple choices were harder than the 3 paragraphs part of the tests. "It's your job to read the book" The lowest overall grade in the class was 27% and the average was 65% lower! One group project, so choose wisely! 4 midterms! Doesn't drop any!
Lots of case studies and the class is very interactive. He encourages every one to speak. he listens to everyone's opinion. Very open to ideas. One of the best classes I have taken at SJSU
My favorite professor on campus so far. Would take again. Few exams, not cumulative. Weekly quizzes but pulls questions from the quizzes on the exam, making them super easy. Do the assigned reading each week and it's super easy. Great professor, gives good explanations so it's easy to understand. Not hard to come to class.
I enjoyed his class, very informative and really cares about his students. Has a slight accent but nobody complained about it. Few in class assignments, few easy quizzes, 2 midterms, 1 final. None of it is cumulative, so that's better. Grade is 60% exam, 40% in class participation. Just show up and listen, study for the test the night before.
He's very smart and experienced in marketing, but he expects way too much comprehension of small details. I found a lot of questions to focus on obscure concepts from the chapter and the rest of my classmates agreed. This class is more based on your memorization ability than the embrace of marketing...
This is probably one of my favorite classes. If you pay attention to his lectures and study the slides, he explains concepts thoroughly. Much better than other online classes I've taken.
Easy online course if you want an A. Weekly homework and quizzes, which isn't too hard. There are 3 exams, which I didn't find difficult at all. Overall, I would recommend this professor to anyone who is looking to take marketing online and receive an A.
Quizzes and HW are straight forward and pretty easy. Not a heavy workload type of class. Only thing I think needs improvement is time given for quizzes. We should be able to take our time and not feel pressured. Other than that, take it online for the internet is a great resource. ;)
The easiest three units you can take at SJSU. His assignments are all open resource (book, internet, etc.). No project. Just quizzes and 3 exams. Would take him again in a heartbeat. Best decision to take him online.
three easy case studies, 2 midterms, 1 open book final non cumulative, easy 10 page group research paper of a country of your choice, 25 minute presentation on the country. overall teacher was easy going. lenient on the final grade and helped many people from failing the class. must take cus you will learn a lot.
Taken as a summer session, this course is challenging. There is a lot of content, and the three exams (timed) test your application of the principles learned from the reading. Dr. Rajan provides very good lectures that clarify complex aspects from the text. To gain full value of the content, I suggest taking this course over a full semester.
Took this class online in the summer. Three exams which were open book open notes . His lectures were super clear with lots of good examples. Definitely learnt a lot and would take another class from him. Would be great to take a regular class but even online would be fine.
I am graduating this semester and I took this course earlier this year and it was one of my favorite classes. Professor Mahesh is an awesome instructor and his experience was clearly evident. He used case studies and videos along with lectures. 2 exams and 1 country report. Learnt a lot and enjoyed the course very much.
Great class. Listen to his lectures, do the required work and you will do well.
weekly homework. 100+ question multiple choice tests. No lockdown browser. 2 midterms,1 final.
Great professor! I took this class online and was great. One quiz and 2 small assignments every week. The only thing I didnt enjoy was the exams. They werent difficult but it was 150 questions!! Trust me when I say, my eyes couldnt take the screen much longer after going through 100.
Weekly quizzes and homework assignments. 3 exams which were open book and open notes. His lectures were very clear and interesting which he released chapter by chapter each week. I liked the structure and the pace of the course.
Great online class. All quizzes & exams are open book & open note, all taken through Canvas (no lockdown browser). The class is self-paced and after a couple of weeks, I got the hang of it. Weekly quizzes are 10 min, with 10 mc questions. Exams are mc, but wording can be tricky. Weekly lectures on Canvas, weekly hw on MyPearson (access code $100)
Really good class with weekly assignments and quizzes. Three exams open book open notes and no lock down browser. Lectures were easy to follow and helpful.
His online class becomes hardest ever since he requires lockdown browser + monitor now. Overall no project, quiz and 2 smalls assignments every week which takes you less than half an hour to finish. Tests are super lengthy 150 questions in 150 minutes. Make sure to study for the test since it takes up most points
First exam and all quizzes: Lockdown Browser+Camera+ Once you clicked NEXT question you can't go back to check; time is 1 minute for 1 question. 2nd exam and 3rd exam were removed camera because we all could not do well with 150 minutes for 150 questions. Barely replied to emails, and complaining he was busy when all assignments are system graded.
First non-A I've gotten in state because of the 3 150 question exams. Class did so bad he took off monitor tho it's used for the quizzes & lockdown is always used. I didn't learn, I just memorized mostly. He didn't engage the class at all & kind of made the class seem like an afterthought. Weekly quiz, activity, and recorded lecture, no other hw
He's the worst professor, I was "C" but I got "D" I took him in summer He doesn't teach Well
Hes one of the worst professor at sjsu, his exam are really hard and hell give you less time to finish you exam. I want to tell all sjsu undergraduate students DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR
This professor is bad he doesnt give any homework only goes by 3 exams which they are really hard and doesnt give you enough time to finish it Ill give 0 to this professor
Super easy going class, each week we are assigned one quiz and about two video assignments that take 10-15 minutes to complete in total. His exams were open note and no lockdown browser, with 100 MC questions and 100 minutes to complete.
Avoid him if you can. Assignments/tests are just memorizing concepts/facts since u never apply what u learn and the lectures don't really connect to or build upon each other. Mostly a self taught class where you memorize as much as possible. Exams are multiple choice or T/F. Not too difficult but a dreadful experience
Took over summer. Has 4 exams and 1 group project. The exam material is all directly from the book. I passed the class but only because it's self taught and I'm good with reading and retaining material. He is rude and doesn't respond in a timely manner. Uses proctor U to moderate exams. First exam closed book and closed notes.
Avoid taking him if you don't like to be monitored by ProctorU (sus proctoring site) unless he teaches the same class, but in-person where you can join (limited spots) to take the exams. With him emphasizing how much cheating has happened before, don't express your angers towards him to making changes because he won't, yet cope with it :(
Paid $ for McGraw Hill just to do quizzes! Kept the 100 questions for 100 minutes as we're being tested on 5-6 chapters on each exam, which is absurd! Still closed book/notes for exam 1 where the class average is bound to be fairly low. Lecture slides and videos barely helped, so get ready to devote hours reading the textbook to do well on exams.
One of the worst professor in the Marketing department. Very rude to his students. Only memorization and not actual learning. If you're able to, just take a different marketing elective if this happens to be your last semester.
Guy have one class a week and gave us a midterm after 3 weeks of class. The funny part is 2/3 of those classes his projector didn't work and send students home half way through the class then midterm came. No additional notes or practice guides. Horrible! I would never ever take him again and will not recommend students to take him at all.
Pick your professor as soon as you can because you don't want a professor like this who doesn't teach much and gives you heavy exams. He also requires people to take midterm in person with webcam on. Extremally WEIRD.
This professor made it very clear to us he doesn't really care about his students. Assignments/quizzes are due every end of week and weren't not too bad. The exams were 100 questions with 100 mins and closed books. Didn't learn much and tried to memorize everything I could to prepare for exams but was impossible.
Homework hardly makes a difference. 2 Midterms and Final essentially shape your final grade. Exams are entirely memorizing definitions. Weekly multiple choice quizzes & homework. Provides examples from his own career to relate the lecture topics. Takes attendance & recognizes the students who participate in class discussions.
Exams are 100 Q in 100 min and uses lockdown browser. Homework and Quizzes are 25 Q in 30 min, but open book and open note Q's are rarely vocabulary based, so be prepared to comprehend and apply concepts Not a horrible teacher, but final grade is very test and quiz heavy Attendance is not mandatory, but quizzes are password protected, so attend
Don't take this dudes class. Very incompetent of tech when the whole course is online .Quizzes are on everything but the slides he offers. I counted 10-12 questions that had to do with the concepts. The rest were bs. He says he does the quizzes directly from the text book that you HAVE to buy even though the temporary access allows you to it
Dr. Mahesh Rajan is in charge of the EMBA program at SJSU. The EMBA program allows other students to go to other universities in other countries. My problem is with Dr. Mahesh Rajan. He assigns response papers with vague instructions, expects us to respond critically think about each reading, and does not give 100% on participating or papers.
gdfgdfg
Rajan is alright, kinda rambles on and often repeats a lot of the same examples all semester. Weekly assingment and quizzes, not hard. Respondus Lockdown tests so you gotta read or at least listen to pass. He's kinda unhelpful but its a passable class and you learn a good amount for intro to marketing.
Rajan and his class is definitely not as bad as the reviews suggest. If you're not a marketing major and aren't super invested in marketing I'd suggest taking his class. Half your grade is in person quizzes that are open-book and internet, the other half are closed book 75 question exams. If you read the book and put minimal effort easy B.
Chose your professors ahead and wisely. He doesn't explain much and test very heavy. He offers 30min weekly quizzes with very long paragraphed scenarios with 25 questions which is ridiculous. On top of that he doesn't offer homework or something to practice on. The exams is heavy and not much like the quizzes. DON'T TAKE HIM.
This professor should't be teaching anyone, clearly just here to retire."Barely knows how to turn on a computer" is tenured his demeanor shows it. Thinks students are mediocre. Heavy slideshow reader, class lectures has nothing to do with quizzes(on quizlet). Incompetent would be an understatement. Showed up 1/3 of the entire sem to his own class.
There are quizzes every class (mostly) and then there are exams. If you take it online, he requires a lockdown browser with the camera on. Very strict with those exams. The class average was 71% and he said that the class was easy and was looking down on us calling us stupid. He can't even get 100% on his exams. He is also very disrespectful.
This is my first review here, and trust me I'm here for a reason. This person will turn your life into a living nightmare, and what's worse, he seems so unbothered?? WHO GAVE HIM THE RIGHT TO TEACH?? We're investing thousands of dollars for what? To fail? No matter how hard we try to study??I hope someone takes some sort of action against him.
One of the worst professors to ever teach a class. He relies heavily on slideshows and does very little explanation. Seems like he is not invested in trying to teach students. I could be dying and this guy will not care and refuse to let you make up for work because of "university policies".
Horrible at responding to emails & his excuse was that he was "working with people from Ferrari". The study guides are never aligned with the exams, so don't bother. He was called out during a Zoom meeting for being negligent to the class and having an unfair policy, in which he gaslighted the students and became INCREDIBLY defensive in response.
Would recommend people to avoid this Professor at all costs- especially if you're graduating soon. Would say slides are 30% on the exam and 70% from who knows where. No study guide or review on what would be on the exam. Good luck on getting good group project members- you're going to need it!
I'm not sure why Professor Rajan has bad reviews. His coursework is straightforward read the chapters, do weekly quizzes and video assignments, and take three open-book exams. While he can be repetitive about students not caring or cheating he shares valuable insights and clearly knows marketing well. Overall I'd rate him a 9/10.
This professor can be tough, but using resources like unstuckstudy alongside the textbook and attending class helps. Exams are difficult, but doable with diligent preparation.
His class is full of conflicting information. Question him he will write a condescending and irrelevant email to justify why his communication is inadequate. Apparently he thinks teaching on 4 different continent justifes his lack of instruction and inability to maintain a constructive class. Avoid this attitude teacher with tenure
has something mentally wrong with him. extremely rude and negative. accuses students of cheating, completely inaccessible outside of class time and when asked in class will promptly tell you to that you're being disruptive and not negotiate or will call you dumb for asking. claims everything he does is through the dean, but it's a bunch of b.s
avoid at all costs. this professor refuses to swallow his own ego. he accuses students of cheating on his exams, which was strongly worded in his emails. extremely rude and dismissive. almost impossible to reach outside of class even after sending a follow-up email. barely teaches the class—everything you do is on pearson. take someone else!!
Professor is extremely unprofessional and impossible to reach. Tells students not to use Canvas inbox but doesn't answer regular email either. Constantly accuses students of cheating/AI, yet all slides, quizzes, exams, and homework come straight from Pearson. Offers zero real support.
Online course, and all he does is rant in emails using the word "egregious". He just accuses everyone of cheating and is inaccessible outside of class. He rants about how AI is taking over, like he isn't the one getting replaced first with his teaching. Don't take this online class! He is horrible.
absolutely absurd with how much control he wants over a situation. flagrantly accuses ALL students of cheating in his class, begroans how much he "is doing this for the benefit of the student" and then proceeds to never respond to any student despite frequent asks in his Zoom calls for any communication. hope he's let go from the faculty.
RUN! He will look for every possible reason to fail you on the basis of AI-use (relies solely on Turnitin grader even when you DID NOT USE AI.) His emails are completely disrespectful and unprofessional. He attempted to assign exams on a Federal Holiday (against university policy). He dismisses issues on the basis that he is not "tech savvy."
RUN! He obsesses over failing students on the basis of AI-use relying solely on Turnitin even when you did not use AI. He's wildly unprofessional/disrespectful sending mass rage emails to students. If you have Pearson issues (his chosen platform) he dismisses saying he is "not tech savvy" (unhelpful). Easy assignments, but not worth his dramatics.
RUN! He obsesses over failing students on the basis of AI, relies solely on Turnitin even when you didn't use AI. Constantly sends wildly unprofessional/disrespectful rage emails to the entire class. Attempted to assign exam on Federal Holiday (against university policy). Easy assignments, but not worth his dramatics imo you will not succeed.
Unclear instructions, slow replies, and a condescending tone whenever students ask for help. He refuses make-ups for tech issues and relies on unreliable AI detectors to accuse genuine work. The class often feels confusing and more stressful than it needs to be. I didn't feel supported, and I wouldn't recommend taking him if you can avoid it.
run unless your trying to be accuse of using ai and not get any of your email respond to and he will play the victim
an inspiration to the marketing department and to all who come after. if you're looking for a singular word to describe him: pedant. he is truthfully one of the most ridiculous professors i've had the displeasure of taking simply due to his total and complete lack of empathy or understanding.
