He's aight. Hes hard to understand, though.
It's hard to understand him. Hard exams. Make sure you study hard!!
Difficult to understand, and the exams seem tough. You really have to pay attention and take notes..
Soft-spoken, so sometimes a little hard to hear and understand. Will help you if you ask for the help. Exams were mid-range.. If you studied, there will be no problem... Exams were multiple-choice.. Would take a course with hi, again, but only in a regular classroom, not a lecture hall. Cares about the students.
Nice guy but has that accent.. He tries to help you, though.
He is a very nice person, but very hard to ubderstand at times. I suggest that you read the the book for the test and class it will help you better understand.
CONTRADICTS HIMSELF ALL THE TIME
Good Professor. He doesn't like it when students walk in late to class and interrupt him. His explanations are clear and will help go over whatever you don't understand if you ask him. He is very concerned about the academic preparation of his students. I find him very nice and extremely knowledgable in his topic. GREAT PROFESSOR !!!
Excellent Professor, I love him. He is as clear as water, even though he has an accent he tries very hard. He repeats very single thing to help you understand. If you need to review something, he will do it. Exams are a lit of bit hard but if you pay attention to the class you dont need to study anymore from the book. He cares for the students!
Hard to understand and tests are impossible. Avoid
Lectures werent so bad. The material he taught was easy. The exams however were difficult. They were multiple choice, but still difficult. Be sure to study for the exams!!
Great teacher. Have to be involved in class. if you need help he will go over material again and again
Very nice teacher. He is likeable, warm, congenial,& upbeat. Cares alot about his students & is adamant that students understand everything he covers & will always answer your questions. Great sense of humor, never dull or dry. Exams are tough, but his test review class is extremely thorough so pay attention and you'll do well on them.
Great teacher, explains the material more than once in 100 different ways so that you'll be prepared for questions on tests. Pay attention in class, even though he has an accent, he is very thorough with the material. His test reviews are very helpful.
Heavy ascent , can get lost in class. Participate and sit in the front. Take notes , go to his review classes. Tests are extremely hard , 40 multiply choice questions on exam.
Has a thick accent but a great teacher. If you don't understand something he'll explain it till you do. highly recommend.
Great professor. knows his stuff and always will go over anything students need help with. his method of teaching is great. exams are easy everything is from notes n textbook. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
Prof Chowdhury is not someone i would recommend to take economics with. He was very unclear and not good at reviewing for tests. I passed the class but he was not a good professor.
Professor Chowdhury was by far one of the best professors at SUNY Farmingdale. I had him for both Micro and Macro Economics, and received an A in the class. He is very clear and will go over anything you have questions with. anyone else who says otherwise is wrong. I highly recommend this professor
Ehhh hard to understand at times and a little unclear. Read the textbook and do the chapter questions and you will get an A on the test.
If you can't tolerate a language barrier, he's not for you. But he's brilliant. Don't get me wrong, he speaks english very well, he just has a thick accent. You need to go over anything, he has no problem stopping until you understand. Tests are tricky, but not too difficult. You have to be attentive though, he calls on everyone.
He is every intimidating, his test are extremly hard and he has the thickest accent ever. You will become frustrated because you don't know what he is talking about and he will become frustrated because you cannot understand what he is saying. Get out of his class ASAP.
This Prof. is great he will help you pass the course. Just ask for his help.
Great sincere teacher who genuinely tries to make each student do the best they could. He went over all the work pertaining to the class in great detail and effort. I would deffiantly take another class with him.
Do not recommend. Nice guy. Very unclear. Poor organization. Lecture is taught similar to the text however exams are totally different. Same concepts but very tricky. I was an active participant in class, always present, always took notes. Read all the chapters prior to exam and found the subject interesting. Unnecessarily difficult.
I recently had Professor Chowdhury for macroeconomics and found him to be one of the most knowledgeable and caring professors I have had to date. He goes above and beyond for all students simply because he is eager to see us succeed. I highly recommend this professor and if you hold up your end of the bargain, he'll surely hold up his!
He is a good professor! gives little hw and is very helpful! he has an accent, but it is understandable and he doesnt mind if u ask him to repeat what he said bc u couldnt understand through his accent!
Test are very hard, i seeked help but he didn't even show up when we scheduled a meeting.
Has an accent but is very understandable, although he is very confusing, and contradicts himself way too much! His tests are totally opposite to what he teaches in class!
Very thick accent, but a knowledgeable professor. Tends to go over the material over & over. Sometimes unclear, but he goes out of his way to make sure the students understand. The class seems easy, but tests are extremely hard! It's worded in a certain way that makes you think, & it's tricky. Make sure you read thoroughly & think before answering!
A very nice teacher. His accent is something people complain about but it is nothing that is seriously distracting. He explains things with great clarity and repeats it so that everyone understand. He tries to engage everyone in the lectures. He barely gives homework and he curves his grades a lot. Overall a great professor.
He's a smart guy and all, but he's extremely hard to undestand. He talks fast and babbles. His tests are legit.. 3/4 are the right answer but you have to pick the one which is the most right. everyone does horrible thats why he has to curve it so much
Worst teacher I've ever had. Case closed.
Accent was a little difficult but overall was very clear in his explanations and gave numerous examples. was open to any questions. very nice man. tried to add a little humor to such a dry topic
Economics is a challenging subject and professor Chowdhury tries to make it easy by engaging students in class. He is a caring person and helps anyone who seek help.
Very knowledgeable and compassionate professor. He gives little home work and his tests are fair. His review before test is especially helpful.
Great Professor! His lecture includes real life experiences which makes things more interesting. He doesn't burden students with too much homework, but relies on them to learn things at their own pace. He gives 3 tests and drops the lowest score one to improve the final grade.
He was very hard to understand so you're better off reading the textbook. Tests are not very clearcut, questions are vert confusing. Would not recommend him as a professor.
Little homework, but do the reading.
I have taken both micro and macroeconomics with him. He is a really good guy. It is clear he loves economics and teaching students. It's hard material. But don't let that discourage you from participating. Tests are multiple choice, but very hard. still possible to get an A though. if you actually study, and read, you will be fine.
In reality the most boring, tough, and annoying professor i've ever had. There's a huge language barrier, and the test are beyond impossible. I passed the class, but I would never take another one with him. You will need the textbook, and you will need to teach yourself.
Had him 2 times. friendly guy; will help you pass. 3 Hard tests, drops lowest. *READ THE CHAPTER THAT HE TELLS YOU TO FOR THE NEXT CLASS*, everything will be clearer. It isn't that exciting of a subject for most, but he makes it as interesting and fun as possible by using real life examples and jokes. Participate, read, and ask questions.
Might be a bit of a language barrier but he's honestly a great professor. He goes over the chapters in class and expects you to read them beforehand. If you're having trouble about the material he'll do his best to help you understand during and after class. Read the textbook and do practice problems, you should be able to do well on the tests
Very good professor. Economics is a hard course, this professor makes the concepts easy to understand. I have taken two economics courses with him. My advice: attend class regularly, study, and ask question to clear any confusion. He is eager to help.
Excellent Professor! He is very knowledgeable and helpful. I would strongly recommend him.
He is a great professor. Helpful and reviews questions that you may have. Lectures are clearcut and exams are similiar to textbook questions. I recommend this professor.
He is honestly the WORST professor I've ever had at Farmingdale. He teaches an intro course as if you are part of the business major (Psych major here) . He doesn't answer questions properly. Tests are tricky, and he doesn't give homework (normally a plus, but with such a difficult class, homework points are very much needed). I would avoid him!
Great Professor! Economics is a hard topic alone but Prof Chowdhury goes out of his way to help his students. He wants you to learn and he truly cares about his students. He gives a well detailed review for each test, so make sure you go to the reviews. If you don't understand he will go over the topic until you understand. I would take him again.
One of the best professors Ive ever had. He made the subject matter clear (and personally enjoyable) in lectures so I didnt use the textbook. Classes are interactive and participation helps your understanding more than most students believe. He also reviews for each test in detail beforehand and the class isnt hard if you put in some effort.
I took him again because Ive come to like economics from his classes. This was a bit harder than macro because of the topics, but I understood everything from him teaching. Had to get the textbook only for homework this time, never read it. Would definitely take another class with him if he taught anything else. Extremely caring and knowledgeable.
He is really not as good as everyone says he is. He makes you feel so tiny and dosent let you talk and when you get a question wrong he gets all mad. I am a student who works very hard and i have been showing up to class and when you go to see him during office hours he rushes you and limits your time to getting help. Really a big bummer.
He is an excellent professor. Economics is hard, but his lectures are easy to follow. He makes his classes interactive and even offers extra points for class participation. His tests are based on weekly homework. I didn't do well in the first test, but recovered in second and final tests. Luckily, he drops the lowest of the first two tests.
Best professor I have had - so caring and attentive. Economics is such a boring subject but Prof. Chowdhury makes the subject so much easier and interesting. It seems as though those who grade him poorly simply put in ZERO effort because he goes above and beyond to try to help those who seek it out.
tests are difficult. couldn't understand him. its hard to get your opinion out and if yo get a question wrong he'll get mad.
horrible professor. DONT TAKE HIM... I learned nothing from him.
His test are very easy if you do the hws he assigns. His hws are very easy as well cause you get three chances to get them right. Easy A in this class.
He is very caring and fair professor. His tests are based on weekly homework. Except the final, he reviews test scores in class and even drops the lowest of the first two tests. He is open to questions. I am so impressed, I am taking him again for Eco-157 in this Fall.
Professor Chowdhury has a horrible grading system. He should offer extra credit. There was always one or two speakers in my class answering his questions through the semester. He teaches Economics like everyone will understand it easily and pressures the whole class. He also curves the final making it go from 40% of the final grade to 50%.
Professor Chowdhury is a good professor. He has a thick accent so it's difficult to understand him. His homework and test a simple. He uses videos to help with the lecture. He doesn't like when you are on your phone too much but is a nice guy. He also goes over test and lets you see your grade.
He's a very nice professor and he cares, but his lectures are impossible to follow. he doesn't really teach and expects you to know everything without being taught. kind of absurd.
A very good professor. He cares for his students. His lectures are easy to follow and his homework on mindtap and tests are not too difficult. I am taking him again for macroeconomics in the Spring.
He taught me how to be a good citizen and what economics means.
An excellent professor! I have learned a great deal from him. He is fair and quite reasonable.
Professor Chowdury is not the best professor. He is very lecture heavy yet does not explain his lessons very well. His accent does not help to this either. His tests are made up from the homework online, but be prepared to teach yourself most of the content because as i said, he does not do a good job at explaining the content
This professor is very knowledgeable and fair. He goes out of his way to help his students. His tests are based on homework. He even drops the lowest score of the three tests that he gives.
A great professor indeed!
easy class idk why he has so many negative reviews. do the work and you'll be good
very caring and forgiving but do not take advantage! very flexible and often lets the class decide when test and homework is due. He will give you extensions on everything as long as you ask. my one piece of advise is to get to know the guy, he is awesome! He will also throw you points at the end of the semester if you participate and if you need.
He is a very compassionate and considerate professor. Economics is not an easy subject. The professor's explanation make things easy to understand.
Professor is hard to understand. He lectures a lot in class so you need to supplement by heavy reading of the textbook because he glosses over things that are very important and will be on the test. Its not easy to follow him since he speaks with a very heavy accent. If you don't want to teach yourself look elsewhere.
Professor Chowdhury has a light class and don't even need to really pay attention to his lectures to pass the class. His accent makes it hard to understand anything in the first place. Do the homework assignments and you practically have the answers for every exam. Even the final comes from the homework. The lectures put the entire class to sleep.
He has a very abrasive personality at first; he would tell us how his kids were rich and attended universities. Anyways, you start to warm up to him after a little bit. Read the textbook for info, sometimes it is difficult to understand him during lectures. He will give extensions for homework and such but the final exam is 50% of your final grade.
He is a great professor. Economics is not easy to grasp, but he makes it easy to understand. He gives online homework and gives test based solely on homework. He even drops the lowest of the first two tests to determine the average.
Do not take this professor I'm actually warning you. His lectures are insanely boring and never make sense, all he does is show youtube videos. There's weekly homework with 20-25 questions for each chapter sometimes two chapters a week. It's way too much considering the quality of his teaching. He also talks about his kids that go to Columbia...
He is a great professor - very considerate and compassionate. His tests are multiple-choice questions based on homework. I found his teaching method so helpful that I will be taking macroeconomics with him in the Spring!
He is an excellent professor. Economics being what it is, I am not too unhappy to receive a B in this course.
He is a great professor! He drops the lowest of the first two exam scores to determine the final grade.
I would NOT recommend taking this course . This professor goes on many tangents , talking about topics not related to the course . He will verbally embarrass and argue with you if you're a minute late to class . He talks down upon the students . Always talks about politics and his opinion and mocks the other party . How is this allowed ? DONT TAKE
Took this professors class for all of two days before I had enough. Refused to actually teach, refused to email anything but the syllabus, and we had a 40 question homework after barely learning 7 out of 10 principles of economics. He berated students who were late, and never got to the point of what he was teaching—going on tangents and rambling.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR!!!!!!!!
DONT TAKE THIS GUY!!
The tests are very hard, they are based on the mindtap hwbut that's about all you can do since he does not teach much and is hard to understand. The best part about this class is that he drops one of the lowest test grades but still the tests just do not line up with whatever he teaches. Oh and he will get mad at people for being late/leaving class
I don't get his low ratings—his exams mirror the homework exactly. Pay attention, do the practice problems, and you'll do well. Unlike some professors who use tricky questions, his tests are fair and based directly on what he teaches. Beyond teaching, he's incredibly kind and supportive, always willing to help students succeed and gives extracredit
worst professor
Do not take this professor. Although he is nice and knows what he is talking about when it comes to economics. He is extremely hard to understand and if you are late he will say something to you and call you out infront of the class.
Boring lectures that do not make sense. Goes off on tangents a lot. All exams are based off of homework questions so doing well is pretty simple. Will add extra five points to your final average if you do all the homework and show up to every class. Class is graded off of two exams and final, will drop lowest exam if you ask.
He is a great professor! Economics is not an easy subject, but he tries to make it easy. His test is based on homework. He drops the lowest of the first two exam scores to determine the final grade. I plan to take Macroeconomics with him in the Fall.
Do not take this professor. He is very knowledgeable on economics but his class is way too test heavy meaning almost 75% of your grade is based on test. He gives alot of homework and none of it counts towards your final grade. Just don't take him unless u would like to take this class again.
two tests and a final which is your whole entire grade. did not teach. just showed a ton of videos and then explained some random pages in the textbook while mumbling. most of the time hard to understand. no extra credit offered. i would avoid this professor if you are taking a difficult course.
He is a great professor. Economics is not an easy subject, but he makes it easy. His test is based on multiple-choice homework, and he drops the lowest of the first two tests. I will be taking Macroeconomics with him in the Fall.
He is an excellent professor.
