Professor Darrat makes my marketing class fly by. Grade consists of 3 tests (mulitple choice), 3 case studies, critical thinking assignment, environmental scan, group project and participation. His lectures make the material relevant and interesting. Kind of a tough grader but if you study his slides youll do well.
I took Darrat for MKT 410 and it was awful. I thought this class would be interesting but I honestly didn't really learn that much. His tests were so hard and if you tried to take to him about it he would kind of just be like oh well. We had to beg him to make a study guide for the final. Thought this would be a fun easy class and IT WAS NOT.
Hes up to date with recent marketing news and brings that into his lectures. Tests can be a little hard but he pads it by case studies (5 total) . Understanding dude overall when you talk to him and will give you tips on how to score higher on case studies. Half assing the cases will ruin your grade though
I took this class to be interesting and a fun marketing elective but it was not. The class is extremely hard. The tests were specific statistics that were mentioned once in class. Many students fail the exams. Also would write things in papers and then would be marked off for not having that specific thing in the papers. Overall cool guy but hard
Laid back guy but his lectures are just reading from slides, listing off miscellaneous examples, and hard to follow tangents. His exams are then based off of very specific terms and examples where you have to choose from "the most right answer" which is frustrating. The grading criteria for papers is vague and he offers little to no feedback.
I really enjoyed this class . He is very helpful if you need help understanding, you can talk to him after class or during office hours. He even came outside his office hours to meet with my group when we had issues. Tests are not easy, but doable. He did put specific questions from lecture on first exam but when we brought it up, he switched
Hes a cool guy however what he expects from us is frustrating because everything is so vague. He teaches from slides and gives term definitions. Theres a critical thinking paper, environmental scan, 3 case studies, 1 group project and 3 multiple choice exams with the last being accumulative. For test choose the most best answer.
Professor Darrat is a great professor in general. Lectures are fun and many discussions occur. When it comes to written assignments, there are many and he is not an easy grader. Tests are tricky and 2 answers for the same question could work, you have to choose the best answer and hope for the best. More details regarding assignments are needed.
I absolutely loved him. He is very funny and makes the material very clear and comprehensible. His slides are a little wordy but he uses tons of examples and makes the lectures available online. His tests were a little difficult but not impossible. Just put in some effort and you will do well in his class.
I literally considered changing my major to marketing because of this guy. One of the few teachers you can tell has a genuine passion for what hes teaching. Made it a point to keep us aware of stuff going on and even posted articles outside of class about current events just keep us informed. Entertaining teacher
Best Marketing prof at UT. Very interactive teaching style and it seemed like wherever the discussion would stray in class, he was knowledgeable about the topic. Really up to date with marketing trends and contagious enthusiasm about marketing in general. Confirmed my belief in this major. TAKE HIM!
I took professor Darrat during the summer and he was a great summer teacher. Understanding and made the class fun. Time flew and it wasn't hard to pay attention because of his enthusiastic personality, passion for the subject and interactive lectures.
I highly recommend any business student to take this course with Dr Darrat. I had 3 interviews lined up directly as a result of connectiions made in this class. His coaching on the sales process and especially on how to develop my pitch were super helpful during my interviews. You can tell he loves sales and is very knowledgeable on it
Only got midway through semester before having to go online due to COVID, but I loved this class regardless. You can tell he stays up to date with world events and brings that into class which helps. Your project grade will suffer if you get a bad group, so let him know early. He let us fire a group member for not carrying their weight.
This was my second class with Dr Darrat and he didnt disappoint. Hes funny, down to earth, and knows his stuff. His lectures are like conversations and he tries to get everyone involved. He helped me redesign the logo for my business and gave tips for my website. Tried to take him again in the fall but hes not teaching any courses i need.
Test are very vague. If you hate Proctorio take another professor he uses it every exam if your online. Super uncomfortable having a third party website record me. Study guides were trash and very vague as well, especially for people who do well in other areas like presentation, but horrible on tests like me I need a good layout for a study guide.
Do not take it. Tests are very hard and do not go over anything. He makes everything due in the same week and inconsiderate to the student that might have work in classes that are due in the same week. Goes on tangents during class and does not answer emails.
Tests are very hard and there's no homework
He is a cool laid back guy but his exams are so hard, STUDY. Besides that there isnt much work and he is not a hard grader.
Dr D is a down to earth guy whose enthusiasm shows in class. I can tell you many of my teachers at UT dont share that enthusiasm about their subject so that was refreshing. His tests arent easy but not impossible. he gave us an incentive to replace our lowest score with the final if we scored least 10 points higher on it which saved my grade.
It was a weird semester but this was one of the better classes I had. Tests arent easy though. Had an unexpected death in the family during the semester which was rough mentally and he was very accommodating and understanding. Good teacher and nice person
Live lectures are really good and he answers questions along the way even if youre on Zoom. He makes it comfortable to ask questions, but is not an easy grader. Hes big on using psychology in sales which I liked . Im currently working in sales as a result of a connection made in this class and Im using what we learned everyday.
His lectures are upbeat and funny and makes you actually want to go to class. Also sprinkles current events into class discussions which gets everyone participating. Looking forward to his sales class next semester
Most useful class I've taken at UT so far. I;m glad I took Dr. Darrat, his guidance and coaching on my pitch and selling in general are super useful and using the stuff we learned actually landed me a job. Decided to add a sales minor becuase of this class. highly recommend him
Im a finance major and dropped this class last semester because the the teacher and material was BORING. Took Dr Darrat on recommendation from a friend who took him before, so glad I did. His lectures are really entertaining because of how enthusiastic and funny he is. Hes definitely your best option for this class
Absolutely loved this class, hes a very useful person to know if youre planning on going into sales. He helped me adjust my resume and gave me some great tips on what to say in my interview and I ended up getting the job. He really cares about his students success and is very helpful if you get to know him.
Totally agree with last comment. I graduated this semester and I can honestly say this was the best class Ive taken at UT during my time here. Beyond just the class, he teaches you how to present yourself to employers which has already helped me greatly in interviews. You can tell he loves his job and cares about students
Fresh perspective and great intro to marketing. I dont like working in groups so that was a downside, but he chooses some innovative products for the marketing plan whiCh made it bearable. Talks about interesting and relatable topics in his lectures and always got the flyest kicks :0
I'm not a marketing major and was very apprehensive about a sales class. He puts you on the spot from day 1, or as he says "Get comfortable with being uncomfortable" Most important takeaway for me is I'm much more confident pitching myself. He can be tough grader, but his feedback on projects was always encouraging and useful. RECOMMEND!
This is an interesting class and he does a great job making the lectures entertaining and talking about the new trends and things going on. Yet, there's no homework and your grade is mostly tests, a few papers, and a project. The tests are WAY too hard and you could understand everything in class and the textbook and tests are still impossibly hard
Surprised by all the negative reviews. Professor Darrat is an amazing lecturer as he uses relevant examples for all the topics. The grade is heavily dependent on the Tests and the Group Project but if you put in the time and effort you'll do fine. There are a few papers you have to write (usually 4-7 pages). I highly recommend to take his class.
Only 8 am class I enjoyed going to. He's motivating, and clearly passionate about marketing and you can tell during lectures. There's always interesting discussions that go on from video game advertising to sneakerhead marketing.... he's very up to date with trends and about what's going on in marketing. Tests are hard but not impossible
I'm a graduating senior going into real estate and this was by far the most useful class I've taken in 4 years at UT. No book, but his coaching/lectures are super useful in improving your confidence and sales performance. All grades are application based (2 role plays, pitching, ROI metric, etc.), but not an easy A. Really good feedback though.
OG professor, most entertaning part of the class is lectures. I actually looked forward to going because of the class discussions. Mad funny and knows what hes talking about, but brings it to you in a lighthearted way
I learned a ton from this class and Professor Darrat is an amazing teacher with a lot of experience. He can be a bit of a tough grader, but his feedback is very detailed and encouraging and he shows you exactly where you need to improve. He's a reasonable guy as long as you put the effort in.
He holds live zoom lectures and is good at engaging everyone with relevant topics which is rare for an online. Lectures and class discussions are interesting, he doesn't just read off the slides like some others do. Big on trends in marketing and uses a lot of current examples in discussions. I'd definitely take him again
I highly recommend Dr. Darrats class. I had an urgent medical issue which I was hospitalized and unable to come to class for 2 weeks and he set up 2 Zoom meetings while I was in the hospital to make sure I didn't fall behind. No other teachers offered to do this and I deeply appreciated it. Regrdless of what I get in this class I won't forget it
Tests are not easy and there is a group project and I got put on a group full of slackers which sucked. Other than that, Darrat is a great professor with a super enthusiastic approach to teaching. I'm a junior and so far this is one of few classes I enjoyed going to and was totally because of him. Passionate about global marketing and it shows
Dr. Darrat is one of my favorite professors at UT so far. His expectations are clear, he is accessible, he responds in a timely manner, and he honestly seems to care that we are learning what he is teaching. He uses a lot of his travel experiences in his lectures which are interesting and hilarious. I would definitely recommend this professor!
Still don't know what to expect on the final project and my overall grade, but so far it's been a great experience. This class definitely has very entertaining lectures. He's very funny and his explanations and stories are always relevant and up to date. I'm a finance major and already debating whether to change my major because of this class.
I absolutely love his teaching style. It almost feels like it's not a lecture the way he teaches because he makes it about stuff that you experience as a consumer plus he's also a funny story teller as others have mentioned. I'm not a fan of the group project, but the rest of the work is individual so I guess its okay. Planning to take him again
Unique professor with a lot of knowledge on current events and useful and funny lectures. Although most material is online, his lectures make it way more interesting and understandable becuase of discussions brought up in class and he doesn't shy away from controversial issues. However the test's are hard so STUDY but he does scale them sometimes.
Funny and engaging lectures, never went full time. No textbook, no homework. Class is 4 exams, 2 papers, and a big group project. Exams are HARD. Good class though, only teacher worth getting up at 8 am for.
Makes you want to be in class bc of his lectures. Great sense of humor, Kind-hearted and understanding when I had to miss class for a job interview, even gave me tips on what to say. VERY KNOWLEDGABLE and well traveled. Always shared funny stories of his experiences abroad
Attendance is absolutely mandatory. HARDEST TESTS out of any class I've ever taken, and they were on procotorio. Lectures are interesting but not enough to out balance the difficulty of his tests. No one gets above an 85 on the final group project, bc he grades it insanely hard. Yes he's funny but the tests are impossible, so you wont do well
It's true he has good lectures but that's it. He takes all of his questions from the textbook that he doesn't require us to read and rewords them badly. Hard exams and is a hard grader yet his assignment instructions are super vague. His classes need to be more intellectual for the type of work he wants us to have and he just doesn't provide that.
Surprised by the negative reviews, I loved this class.Tests are hard, did a lot better on the second than the 1st. I disagree that he's an insane grader, our group got an A on the project and some others did too. No flex but not all projects were good quality in our class. Some were trash which might explain the grading. G
Dr Darrat is easily one of the best professors I have had at UT, especially as a grad student. He's well versed in global business/geopolitics and puts his own entertaining spin on everything to make you interested. I honestly learned more from his tangents than I did from half the classes I've taken so far.
One of the best professors EVER. Super cool and understanding. I usually hate lectures but he makes them so interesting and I was eager to listen to them. Test can be difficult but manageable. Big group project but nothing crazy difficult. Would take again!
Darrat is a funny guy and you will never be bored during his lectures. The tests were pretty difficult, but if you study you will be fine. He has very high expectations for the final group project so make sure you get working on that not too late in the semester. I would say I learned a lot from his class and it wasn't too time-consuming.
Won't find a more authentic, down to earth, funny, and knowledgeable professor than Prof Darrat. Im graduating this semester and only wish I discovered him earlier. Made me legit interested in traveling more and consdering work outside the US. Great person to know for job opportunities too, connected me with my current job
He has a fun way of teaching that is very informal, discussion based and the topics he chooses are relevant and interesting. His enthusiasm is contagious and you often get into debates about controversial global issues in class and how they relate to marketing. Exams are difficult, but most did better on the last 2. Overall, highly recommend
Disclaimer: I was in Dr. Darrats MKT 410 class about 3 years ago, he was my favorite professor of all time. I recently reached out asking Dr Darrat for a recommendation letter for grad school thinking he forgot about me and he immediately customized one and completed my application. Thanks again Dr. D, you're amazing!!
Up to date teacher, ample real-world experience. Not too demanding, but expects good quality work. Helpful outside of class, and flexible to talk to in person. Great class and instructor. Most importantly, his lecture memes are hilarious af
He's hilarious and I looked forward to lectures bc of how passionate he is about the material. People would bring up random current events in class and he was always aware and on top of the issues with interesting interpretations and opinions. He also provides cool real world examples from videos to visualizations which helps it stick.Great prof
He provides audio with powerpoint slides and exams are primarily from those lectures. He has weekly discussion boards and the topics are interesting like how AI is being used to sample dead artists and create new unauthorized songs. Most online classes I've taken are distant but he tries to keep it engaged. I can actually say I learned something
lectures are amazing with so many examples so not hard to be engaged. But exams were hard. If you aren't interested in the international side of marketing, don't take this as an elective. If you are, he's the best professor to take it with imo
Straight forward class setup, and fair grader. slides were full of funny memes so that was entertaining, discussion were on relevant topics. Would take again
I had zero interest coming into this class but he made it very interesting! He's really down to earth and you can tell he loves discussing global marketing issues. His tests are fair if you study and go to class but they're by no means easy.
I'm not a business major and taking this class as an elective. His class discussions are really interesting and keeps it relevant for non majors like myself. I love his enthusiasm for the issues he covers
Favorite professor so far, decided to minor in Marketing because of this class.
Lectures are upbeat and his sense of humor keeps it engaging despite being a night class. He genuinely cares about his students and is very accommodating and accessible. Signed up for his global class next semester
Took this class on advice from a friend that took him before. Great class, relaxed learning environment , manageable workload, and engaging teacher would recommend him to everyone
Prof Darrat has honestly been one of the funniest lecturers I had so far. He relates the material to everyday events in a funny way and is very personable. The exams are a challenge but they're equally balanced with other assignments including online discussions. Tests are not easy but overall this was a really chill class for me and I enjoyed it
The professor is super engaging and encourages participation, the more you put into class discussions the more you will get out of it. He never makes you feel like you asked a dumb question either; rare for UT profs. His style of teaching, passion for marketing, sense of humor, and the welcoming class atmosphere is unique and appreciated. Take him
Great intro to marketing. He really does genuinely care and respect his students. And he's well rounded and knowledgable on different areas of marketing. Very flexible and accommodating when things come up (like a HURRICANE). Entertaining lectures, I'd take him again and again
Honestly, I would take him again just for the entertainment. He is very quirky and teaches in an interesting way that keeps everyone engaged and interested. If you get the chance, you need to take a class with him at least once. my favorite class this semester
Great person and teacher! Super funny and easy to talk to. Beware of picking the wrong group members or it will come back to haunt you. Not hard to do well in this class but you really have to work for it on the exams especially.
Halfway through the semester and so far, best instructor I've had in 3 years at UT. But exams are not the easiest as others have said, still manageable if you study the lecture material
Darrat is the GOAT. Workload isn't crazy: discussion posts, a couple of case studies, exams, and a group project. Super down to earth guy whose passionate about the material and funny, the only class I look forward to goin this semester.
His lectures are always upbeat and capture your attention. You feel he really wants to be there and not just checking the boxes like a lot of other professors at this school. He was always updating lecture material throughout the semester with current event examples to keep the conversations interesting. Tests are not easy As, but doable Bs
He is one of the most entertaining professors I have had. His expectations are challenging on certain things like the project but very engaging speaker and he is a super laid-back person. One of the few professors I would love to have again! Very chill, always rockin some fresh sneaks
Prof Darrat is a great person who cares about his students, everyday coming to class is like a breath of fresh air from the stress of other professors. He makes every class feel like you're talking to a close friend, he keeps it real and provides an environment where you feel comfortable speaking in class. Fantastic and respected teacher!!
Loved Darrat. His experiences & stories make for boredom-free lectures. I can say I took away more real-life knowledge from his class than all my other classes combined. He starts every chapter with “this is my favorite chapter”. 3 exams, 5 online discussions, a group project, and participation. You won't regret taking him
He's funny in his lectures and tries to make the class as fun as possible. Honestly one of my favorite classes I've had so far. Exams are challenging, more assignments would be beneficial in spreading the weight of grading
He has an informal style of teaching but you can tell he has extensive knowledge of the subject and his stories make classes enjoyable. The course structure is straightforward and grading is clear. Laid back summer class that was actually enjoyable
Excellent professor! I was nervous taking this over the Summer, knowing the online course would be expedited, but Professor Darrat made this class more than possible. Every discussion was interesting and relevant with purpose. Exams are moderately hard but still possible. Very helpful if you reach out for help
Good summer online class, manageable pace, and he's responsive. Met with him online and over the phone a few times to discuss exams and grades and he was always ready to help. I'm looking forward to taking him in person next semester
Prof Darrat makes class interesting, and the memes he uses in lectures are absolutely hilarious. He doesn't use a textbook, class is mostly lecture based, but I was never bored in class and looked forward to going every week. Definitely worth it.
Never done a RMP review before but felt compelled cause this dude is the goat. Exams were on proctorio, but easy to understand grading overall, online discussion questions that were actually thought provoking, no subjective curveballs like other classes.
His lectures are funny and easy to listen to, he's enthusiastic about the topics and adds more context in lectures that isn't in the slides so it helps comin to class. His exams are hard. But he genuinely wants the class to succeed and even dropped one of the exams to help motivate us do better on the final. I'd take him again if I could
Dr Darrat is an amazing professor, he is very entertaining and has a laid back vibe to his class which makes discussions in class really helpful and frequent. Exams were a bit tough, but if you study you will be fine.
I took this as an elective and a filler class tbh, I wasn't that interested in global mktg. but Darrat changed my mind the more discussions we had in class. Hes funny and has a way of spicing up lectures with current events and controversial topics to keep you focused in class. Ended up being one of my favorite classes.
Really good guy, never held class full time, usually around 2 hours. 3 exams on paper and 1 group project that you get in the beginning of the year and present at the end. Only HW is a discussion board every week, very easy. Exams are somewhat difficult definitely will need to study. Would 100% take again he's hilarious and lectures are engaging.
LOVE THIS MAN. He is so chill and always encourages everyone to talk during lectures which are basically group discussions if people participate. Never a dull lecture and never once made anyone feel dumb for asking a question. I'm a finance major and added a mktg minor b/c of this class.
He has an amazing attitude toward his work and his students, and whatever you think of conceptually or as a business model, he can refine it to gold. I'm an entrepreneurship major and he helped me redesign my product into a prototype even though it had nothing to do with his class. It's hard enough getting my profs help with their own material
Professor Darrat is an awesome teacher, and he is very passionate about global marketing. He has a lot of prior experience and connections, and that helps a lot as an instructor in terms of relating to students and encouraging them to pursue a career in marketing. He connected me through LinkedIn to a recruiter who hired me for the job I have now
Chillest professor in the college by a long shot. The class isn't easy, but it's reasonable if you study well for his exams and put some effort into the project. Gives good feedback on the projects and held a couple of group meeting days. Most entertaining part of the class for me was the lectures
He is hands down my favorite professor I've ever had in my academic journey. Exams are tough but everything comes from his lecture material. The paper is relatively easy as long as you put in some effort. Aside from the actual class aspect, he is a genuine, relatable and down to earth person and I took more out of that class than just marketing.
Goated professor who actually wants you to succeed with great videos and lectures. Since starting at UT, I've found it difficult to find professors who actually show enthusiasm/genuine passion for their classes/students. Prof. Darrat is a remarkable exception.
Absolute GOAT of lecturing and teaching to be honest, in all my years of school I haven't enjoyed anyone as much as Dr. Darrat. Showing up to class MATTERS 100000% and he's hilarious. Easy to listen to and very knowledgeable about mktg. His tests are centered around the lectures, so be sure to go.
