She is a hard teacher but is very helpful. Take her class to learn.
Gives 3x more work (essay/journals) then other english teachers. Nice and helpful with how to write a paper, but overload of work on top of all your other classes is not the way to go. If you love typing papers, go for it.
Eng 1A and 1000X really helpful!!! but i spend the whole weekend starting every friday to think about the journals she want us to write topic proposals but she gives extentions if you really needs it 4 journals 4 essays and 1 research paper thank you!
She is not that bad. Very helpful and nice. Do give a little extra hw, journals, LOT of quizzes for your reading. If you really wanna learn, she's a good teacher for you.
EXTREMLY HARD TEACHER, DO NOT TAKE PLEASE, she will lower your GPA and is a feminest who likes to give Ds and Fs
Very good teacher. Extremely helpful. Young and fun.
awsome teacher, helps you in every way possible...always interested in what you have to say, but does give a lot of work...but as long as you do the work, pay attention, and be involved...you'll be fine....
She's pretty alright for a professor in comparison to others. She has a really high tolerance rate; or rather, she doesn't allow it to bother her. She cares, but she's not responsible for whether you do her work or not since it's your grade and your decision.
great teacher Ihave learned alot from her this year. its like there is a computer in her head.
DO NOT TAKE HER
Very unclear on what she wants. Contradicts herself every class session. Is a nice woman but tends to confuse more students then help them learn and retain information. Has a high tolerance for roudy students but lets them disrupt class too often. Lots of "group" talks and feedback instead of her own input.
Dope Professor. Probably one of the nicest professors you will ever meet at PCC. As for the class, she is a fair grader. She will help you whenever you need it. It's an English class so expect to write a lot. If you're looking for an easy A, don't take this class. If you want a challenge, then take her.
wonderful professor & by the far the most enlightening. if you want an easy A, don't take this class because she gives a large amount of work. if you really want to learn though, take her class and you'll be prepared for the next level of english. she's extremely helpful during her office hours so get some advice on how to better papers.
This was one of the most intense classes I've had at PCC. i spent many late nights on her assignments. do NOT take if you are a slacker or do not have much extra time. There is a huge amount of work, but she is very available for help. it was a struggle to get through this class but i learned a ton about writing that i will use forever!
Prof. Smith is cool and the class was extremely easy. I did not like the way she taught because she totally contradicted what she really expected from the beginning of class. She is sort of a put down. If you feel confident enough about the basics, take her, if not, pick another teacher.
although she seems like she could be a great professor, she is very close minded and pounds work onto you. i agree with others, do not take this class if you want an easy pass. when you speak in group discussions she interrupts you, but not in a kind way. she seems very ignorant and probably should find another career.
Trust me don't even give her the benefit of doubt! Take another teacher if possible!!! Hated her class! positive I could have done better with a different teacher.
She was a very good teacher. In group she does alot of interupting you mid sentence but she cool. Don't take if you think you are looking for an easy A because you definately wont get one here!!! Be prepared for long Home work night and weekends. Lots of typing.
She seems really nicee she doesn't really care if you do the work or not she lets you know you are adult the choice is yours don't take if you are looking for an easy class lot of papers and lots reading!! Long nights and weekends!
Ok first off she is great! Sometimes she can be kinda hard but if you pay attention in class you'll understand. Prof. Smith does give homework but its easy until you do the essays. I recommend you do your homeowrk its helpful. I took her and honestly i suck in English but i passed!
She's whatever. I've had better. She gives a lot of writing assignments, reading assignments, and research projects. I had to take her class because she was the only professor left, or else she wouldn't be my first choice.
First of all, she is totally unclear when she gives directions. Second of all, she assigns way too many essay assignments every week. Third of all, she is unpredicatble in the way she conducts each of her classes. Fourth of all, she is very unfair. So to all people, do not take English with her, if you want to pass English, get another professor.
Ms. Smith is a fair teacher. She is always willing to help you through assignments, and is flexible with due dates for essays if the whole class says they need more time. However, she does give out a LOT of homework and Essays. If your looking for an easy class, this is not the one for you. She can also be a little unclear with some instructions.
loved class.. but you have to work hard for your grade.i got a B! Shes a tough grader but in the end you will learn!take if your horrible in english she helped me alot!
I struggled with this class because the teacher was not only impatient but very unclear as well at the same time. I barely got a C in this class. But I suggest to not take this teacher.
She's terrible at teaching, however, she looks athletic for her age. Teaching style is horrible, She confuses the hell out of everyone on how to right papers. Didn't really get much out of this class.
Childish.
Obvious she knows alot but when it comes to teaching she's terrible. She lets you make mistakes which is fine but then she jumps on you and instead of teaching you she goes on a power trip and tries to make you feel dumb. It's funny how as the weeks go by she seemed to try and embarrass you more knowing you won't drop that late in the course
She gives a lot of work, which is fine because it helps you learn, but it would be a lot less stressful if it weren't for her extremely tough grading. Also, when she corrects you, it's as if she's degrading you in front of the entire class.
Very cool prof! She's willing to work with you as long as you show that you're willing to give it your best. Must come to class having read literature she assigned. Quizzes start at the beginning of class time, so if you're late, you lose those points. Loves to do group activities. Got an A in her class. I highly recommend you take her!
she a good teacher you just gotta put the effort and listen to what she wants and you'll get a good grade.
She definitely knows what she's doing. It may not be easy but she is fair. Not reccommended if you are lazy or a procrastinator.
I was pretty scared coming into this class from all the other ratings, but prof smith is the best english teacher i've ever had. You just need to put an effort and you will for sure get an A. She is a hard grader, but if you show that you are trying she will help you out. She is very fair and you are going to learn without a doubt!
The hardest class ever! I've been at PCC for a year, and this class is the hardest class I've ever taken. She grades super strict. Half of the class got a C for our first essay, not mentioning that she like giving out D's and No Grades! No make up essays but there are some extremely difficult extra credits. Office Hour is available not has no use.
she's tough
She really knows what she's talking about. She is not a easy grader and doesnt give extra credit. im retaking English 400 but with a different professor thanks to this website!
I have always hated English and have been good at it, but Professor Smith is a great motivator. Every project in her class with tied to a continuous theme which made it easy to follow and get into. She is incredibly smart and can tell the difference between a lazy person and a hard worker. Work hard and her class will be a great experience!
I don't look forward to Tuesdays and Thursdays because of this class. Something is always due on the next meeting. Lets you revise a paper and will remove your lowest grade out of the 4 essays. There is also a research paper towards the end of the semester. You can get a B or even an A if you really put effort. Do not take if you're lazy.
she is excellent but hard. Very willing to help, will go out of her way to meet with you and walk you thru an assignment if you need it. But don't try to put anything by her--she seen it all and not pashent with slackers. But great--I will take her again!
Doesn't help, very counfusing
She was a hard professor, but she was worth it. She made sure you were ready for the next level and even took a lesson to teach us old things. She would help you if you asked for it. If you tried to pull anything over her she would know. She was funny at times. Make sure not to miss class and to contact her if you do.
She was a hard teacher and expected a lot from everyone. She wasn't bad. You always have to be there to get what's going on. She will help you if you ask for it or if she thinks you are struggling a lot. Make sure your phone is off!
Professor Smith is really a great human being. Only take her if you really want o learn how to write though. She is a hard grader and a very good analyzer of text and material. Extremely good speaker, she is really great. Recommended
Shes hard but I like the way she teaches. You constantly have to keep up with her work. If you are lazy and leave everything last minute do not take her class. Make sure you do all the homework she gives you because it helps you practice and get the material. She really does help you understand more and only lazy people complain about her.
This was such a terrible class absolutely dreadful. First of all, if you have a mind or an opinion of your own, it will not matter. Any sense of input you provide will be squashed down. So expect to read how she reads, write how she writes and lose your sanity while at it. Avoid this class at all costs. Just don't take this class, DO NOT TAKE IT.
Professor Smith treated my Eng100 class as if it was the level above it and prepared us for the challenges of 1A. Attending class is really important because it can either make or break you since there are usually Journals or assignments due the next class meeting. Pay attention and take notes because you'll most likely use them for your essays.
I am never going to take here class anymore. She gives so much works even during the midterm
A lot of feedback must be corrected in order to learn from mistakes . Critical grader but you'll learn to adapt to it .
She gives a lot of assignments, but the feedback she gives guides you in the right direction. Her teaching methods made me feel more prepared to take on eng 1A. I've had a difficult time in the class and had a D the first half of the semester, but after applying her feedback and going to her office for help my grade boosted up to an A.
She was not very clear on how she wanted the essays structured and the fact that I was never taught how to make an outline didn't help either because she also wanted us to do that in class. I would ask many questions and she would answer them but I still felt they didn't help at all.
She is a good teacher but she grade hard . I don't recommend to take this class with this professor if you didn't place this high level of English .
I was a first year college student and I did not rate my professor, which I should have. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!!!!!!!!! She is the very unprofessional and expects you to write her way or no way, on top of that she is very rude. She is ver unclear with what she wants, a lot of hw, and a very tough grader. She will make you feel dumb. Don't take her
I took her my first year at PCC before I knew about rate my professor, I regret that. She gives short essays due basically every week, and there are three main big essays for the class. There's essay #1 (4-4.5 pages), #2/ MIDTERM (4-4.5 pages), then the final research paper (8-9 pages). Wouldn't take again, do not recommend for people with jobs.
She was discriminating and mocking my question. She wants to embarras you infront of the entire class to show she was superior than you are. I even talked to her after the class about why was she being so tude to me or the entire class( in a polite way), but she refused to accept and instead said that we are not paying her to teach us! its gov!
worts teacher in my history in all school year, mocking me, being sarcastic, giving bs essays, and awegul grading scale
What I liked about profesor Smith is that she gives you feedback to rewrite your essays better and this class is easy as long as you do your work. Professor Smith liked working smart not hard. I would retake this class if I could
Professor Smith is a very educated teacher who has full knowledge in English. Professor Smith English 1B class is a college level that will get you ready to transfer. She is a hard grader when it comes to essays and her exams and journals are based on written essays. Make sure to proof read and polish your essay before turning them in.
Wrost Proffessor i ever had she doesnt explain the assignment clearly so it easy to get confused sometimes
100% recommend this class if you want to fail
She is really good when it comes to explaining but... her grading isnt very fair. Dont go to class for one day and youre screwed. Even though you feel like youve improved shes going to keep saying youre wrong. My whole class was struggling to get a C (out of 34 we ended up being 8). If you choose her good luck. Shes quite the teacher.
The first day of class she will make it seem all easy and simple to pass her class.. She assigns so much work and expects it to be done by the next class period. Be prepared to write essays about topic's that just don't make sense. She makes everything sound way more complicated then what it actually is DONT TAKE HER CLASS.
Don't take this professor at all! She's a big joke when it comes to her making you embarrassed in front of class, making herself more superior than you, and the cherry on top, really hard grading being put in your face.
Professor Smith's online communication skills were highly lacking at best. She will ask for questions from students and then laugh that they didn't understand her tangled succession of directions (unempathetic trait). It's a lot of course work and you have to come to class for correct due dates to be given out verbally.
She is a really tough grader. Her theme song would be "my way, my way or the highway" in this case the highway is an F. She wouldn't give spacifics on what she was looking for and if you missed a class you would be completely lost on the assignments. Every other week my grade went from an 82 to a 57 because she wasn't explaining assignments clearly
If you want to actually improve your writing and prepare yourself to transfer to a top school, take Prof Smith. If you are just trying to scoot by and don't care, then skip it. I am now at UCLA and I give much of the credit to my success from the English 1A class I took. She is a passionate & challenging teacher. Use her as a resource and grow!!!
Her class is challenging and the amount of assignments is very overwhelming. I don't like that often she doesn't assign a couple of days in advance, but for the next day. However, she's always ready to help. She's also very understanding and assigns a couple of extra credit work so you can improve your grade. Be ready to read and write a lot.
Professor Smith assigns lots of homework. Averaging 4 assignments per week. I spent most of my time working on assignments. All assignments must be written in the third person. Instructions can be unclear and give a short time to complete assignments. She expects a lot from students, so this class is for you if you are looking to be challenged.
Professor Smith is really kind. Beware that participation matters, she might mark you absent if you don't participate. Attendance matters because she will only let 4 unexcused absences slide. Just make sure you attend class, finish your homework before the deadline, always annotate the readings, and you'll be fine.
Predictable assignment schedule - discussion posts, long-ish free responses. You'll definitely be challenged, so participate as much as possible during lecture and listen to the ideas of your peers. In-person midterm essay and optional final. Keep an open-mind learning from her - she's super nice and accessible during office hours for feedback!
Class is not easy. Tough.. English isn't my first language and I am a computer science major. I was able to get an A on her class and I think anyone can get an A if they put in the work. The magic is her office hours. She gives good insights and different ways to tackle the essay. This class truly improves your critical thinking.
Like another person said she is not forgiving towards anything that deviates from her standards. Your grade in the class will depend heavily on how well you do on your essays, which should be, revised multiple times & follow the rubric/prompt to a T. Otherwise if you score only 80%s on the essays you'll be shy of an A. Read her feedback, it helps.
Prof. Smith's Eng001BH is an inherently challenging class, but there is a disconnect between what Prof Smith tells you to expect and the criteria she grades by. Her feedback is helpful for general writing but is inconsistent with her prompts. She would take off points critiquing one aspect, but ignore the same mistake made in another paper.
Professor can be a tough grader but visiting her office hours is extremely useful and can be what bumps your grade up a letter. She isn't a tough grader for the sake of it but she pushes you to write original, academic papers. She will genuinely make you improve as a writer if you are willing to put in the work.
Had a great start bringing in the students interested in writing. After a while with her tough grading, having to be by her standards, she made most of the class drop out throughout the semester. With the last 4 people that stayed she did not care for helping the student to pass or second consider for them. 5 hours of work, 10min worth corrections
Just save yourself the time by not taking courses with her. Doesn't wanna work with her students and doesn't seem to care.
She was very passive aggressive. Would not recommend.
I've taken Maths, Economic and CS classes in PCC. And this random GE was the hardest class by this terrible professor. Worst professor I have ever had in this college. The content is super awkward all about feminism and racism and left wing ideologies. It is suffocating in this class. Feedbacks look like this :??? Literally not helpful
This professor doesn't care about her students and she only talks on and on about feminism and racism. Out of all my classes, this class took up more time than all my other classes combined. Although it was an required course, I'd rather take any other prof. than this one. For me, this was the only option and it was not worth it. DO NOT DO IT.
Way to harsh on the deadlines and she can be extremely rude. Be prepare to fail if you not on top of your work in the class because their retake.
She gives good advice in terms of feedback, writing methods, and provides interesting topics. However, she is a harsh grader, wants things in a VERY specific way, and gives lots of homework that she calls "soft balls" so that she can give you easy points if you do them but I would often get docked. And if you turn things in late, you get docked.
The proffesor is just abysmal
Professor Smith's class is pretty tough for me, but that's my problem I ain't good enough for this level yet. But still, I did improve and learned a lot of stuff from her. She's the most professional english professor I've ever taken. I can feel she does care about us. She's good.
Had to drop her class because she was too much. Gave out multiple essays and assignments in the first 2 weeks of class. She dislikes if you don't write the way she wants you to. She doesn't explain what you did wrong. Pushes a lot of certain topics that can get too much. Wants you to put her class in priority even if you have other things in life.
