Highly recommended: funny, knowledgeable, and wise.
great teacher! Always willing to help.
Great teaching style, and has great stories.
Has the best sense of humor. Very intellegent and philosophical. Extremely helpful.
ok teacher
oh man this guy is hilarious! if it's an early morning class, he'll wake you right up. you can tell he gets frusterated with people who don't try to understand. he makes every effort to help you get a good grade on exams with practice tests galore.
best math teacher I have ever had!
This guy is soo hilarious. He makes every effort to get you interested in math. I would highly recommend everybody to take him for math.
Funny, smart teacher. I've heard horror stories about other MTH 111 teachers. When the time comes that you have to take this required class, do your best to get into Malik's class.
he is so funny, man everyone should take him. most of his tests are all mulitple tests and the finals were only the last 2 chapters. i recommend to all of uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu. anyone going to statistics go to him.
This guy is funny and you can learn alot from him. But his tests are not challenging whatsoever. So if you want an easy A, take this guy.
Great teacher, very funny. Can be serious at times. Makes sure all his students understands material. Can grade on curve. Sometimes a little hard to understand due to accent. But overall excellent!
bestest teacher ever!!! i loved his class..and trust me, this was the only mth class i ever liked...his test r easy multi choice no ork shown..his funny as heck..take him if u get the chance :)
Most fun i've had in a math class. Great teacher
One of my best math teachers.
Great math teacher! Goofy, funny, gives amazing advice. Understands and stresses the importance of process over number crunching, completing problems yourself, and using your college skills in real life. Highly reccommended. You'll never be bored.
Math/Philosophy. Malek is very funny and makes the class very enjoyable. I laughed frequently in class. He has many life lessons to share. Cares deeply about students and knows his stuff!
Malek is AWESOME! Best Math teacher ever. He almost made me look forward to coming to calculus.
Malek is very personable. He explains things well if you are having trouble understanding. The only thing was that he didn't have a lesson plan, he just asked if we had any questions. I'm there to learn from him, I expect that he would teach us. He does give practice tests, which helps.
Amazing teacher, really loves math and knows his stuff, but is able to bring it down to a very easy level. Inspirational teacher, I highly recommend him.
Esctiting and very helpful and clear
Math was a subject I dreaded taking. That was before meeting Malek. He explains things so you can understand it. He even makes coming to class fun! Nothing I thought I'd EVER say!! He's AWESOME!
OK teacher. Had a hard time when it came to test. His tests are hard, unless you are a geek.
He is not that good of a teacher. Most of the students struggled to pass the class, although there were a few nerds who got almost 100% on a couple exams. He is an easy going guy but his exams are hard as hell. He says if you know the concept there you are set, but you have to apply every knowledge that you have.
His exams are applying problems, meaning you have to apply everything you have learned in previous math classes combined with the calculus materials. If you are not great at math, I would not recommend him at all.
OK teacher at best.
Malek is an excellent professor. He has fun and clear ways of explaining the material and understands students math phobias! I would definitely recommend him.
Its a tough class. Calc is tough in general so don't expect anything else.
This is the best kind of teacher you could ever hope to find. Not only did he make the material clear, but he worked hard to help us all understand it completely! :) He was the best and really encouraged us all to study hard and we would pass...and I did! Take this class!!
Malek is really understanding, funny, and very patient. He will take all his time and energy just to make sure that you understand all the concepts. Just come to class, take notes, review them before the quiz, & you will pass. He is a really fair grader, the best i have ever known. I recomment him for everyone! He is just a great teacher...
Tough, tough, tough...... Not an easy A or B if thats what you thinking.
Malek had a great personality. He made sure his students smiled everyday and made sure he answered any questions we had. Sometimes his accent is hard to understand, but won't keep you guessing just raise your hand and he'll clarify. Homework isn't part of your grade. Has practice tests just like real tests. Just show up!
Malek is very nice and easy going at first. Then, when you least expect it, he will become an extremely mean, bipolar guy. He will threaten to give you a zero on your next exam if you talk in class. Who does that? His accent is also just really hard to comprehend. Especially for a math class. His teaching style lacks planning, and organization.
Malek is really great if you dont get step on his toes.. As a teacher he is really helpful and great.. really will do anything for his students...The bad thing is on test.. he is sooo hard!!! like its inpossible to get an A on them cuz he's the one that makes the tests and he makes sure they are a tricky and difficult as he can.
Well, I hate math!!! But when I came to his class he made it fun!! tests are not very easy, but I think I just didn't study enough. I am taking him for Math 95 and will pay more attention to practive at home. Wonderfull teacher!!
Best Teacher ever! He makes math unintimidating and approachable. Your grade is reflected in attendance by the ability to absorb the content of the class. He is awesome. I would take him for all my classes if I could. Very patient and kind.
Greatest teacher I have ever had. Takes a subject that is difficult to a lot and makes it interesting and learnable. He goes out of his way to help you suceed. Takes appointment, calls, will even meet before or after class. He loves what he does and it shows. TAKE THIS TEACHER
I'd take him next term, but he's not teaching that level of math. But other then that, a really great teacher!!! One of the best math teachers I've had in years!!!!
Professor is awesome. Lots of homework but worth it. I would love to take more of his classes but he doesnt teach higher then MTH70.
I have always had a math phobia, but Malek helped me through it. He was one of the most caring, compassionate professors I have ever had. He made algebra easy to learn and I always looked forward to his class because was so helpful. Highly reccommended!!
I LOVE MALEK! He is an amazing teacher. I really enjoyed that he took time to explain things we didn't get. He was very fair with grading and I highly recommend taking his class if you ever get a chance. He brought a smile to my face everyday with his fun jokes and stories. He is a sweet man!
This guy is one of a kind. A very joyful person; loves to tell stories and stuff when there's time. Very enthusiastic about what he does.
Great teacher, great sense of humor. Is like a parent trying to teach you through life but without the nagging. No homework but recommened since he only gives tests.
Excellent, helpful, articulate teacher and a good person, to boot.
Everybody loves Malek! Someone said he is like a parent teaching you through life, and I have to agree with that 100%. Malek is one of a kind!
Has a cool accent lol. Been teaching math almost 30 years. If you have a question he will stop the class and break everything down and go as slow as possible to make you understand it and he will not give up until you understand the material. Take him if you love yourself. Homework and attendance optional but recomended. It's hard to fail his class
BEST math teacher ever!
Best math teacher ever(=
He is a very funny guy. Not a great math teacher. He went too slow and got us behind. I do not feel well prepared for MTH 95. We wasted A LOT of time in class.
Malek is freaking awesome! took him for math 60 and just signed up to take him for math 65. I highly reccomend him!
He saved so much content until the end of the term, noone had time to catch up. Now the final is here and everyone is struggling to catch up. So frustrating!!!
I absoultely HATE math, however looked forward to this class every Saturday for 5 hours--Malek is fantastic at keeping the energy of the class going, and explains things very thoroughly and is endlessly paitent. Wishing he was teaching MTH 70 for Fall 2011 :)
Great Teacher!!! really helpfull.I took MTH 60 an 65. I wish he teach MTH 70 in the fall.
Best Math teacher I have ever had. Some say he falls behind- if so, it's because he stops for anyone with a question, to everyone's benefit really. This is the first time I've written a revue- I would take every class he offers if only it could work that way.
A nice guy but a crappy instructor. No chance of doing homework to offset your grade. ten question tests so its very easy to go down hill fast. even though we used the book he didn't explain things very well.
Malek is one of the best professors! Explains mathematics in fun, engaging ways that I remembered and used all the way through calculus classes. He is very helpful and will spend hours with students before and after class to make sure they understand the material. Doing your homework, attending every class, and paying attention will earn you an A.
Mallek teaches Algebra with some very cheerfull "Bed Time Storys" Great Teacher!! He accepts all students who come to his first class so grab that wait list position.
Horrible instructor but super nice guy. Homework isn't collected, but make sure to do it and ask questions on how to do problems you're stuck on in class. Malek was really good about going over homework problems. Also, some exam questions were taken directly from the homework.
Super helpful: All you have to do is ask questions. If you don't understand and you don't ask, it's all on you! He'll explain anything as many times as you want him to - but only if you ask!
I'm not sure what the other people reviewing this teacher are talking about. Daaboul is unclear about material before tests and was rude to students. Multiple people went to the Dean and mathematics department due to his poor teaching quality. He only counts tests and nothing else. Poor teacher. Hard. Confusing. Condescending over all.
He was funny and made the course as painless as possible. I really enjoyed his relaxed manner and friendly approachable way. I highly reccommend him!
Great teacher, really wants you to understand the material. Retaking him for 65!!!
Wouldn't recommend. I'm a 4.0 student and I love math, but he is confusing and doesn't explain anything unless you ask questions....which is difficult to do when you don't yet know the math. He yelled at people for confronting his teaching style and students even went to the dean. Says he grades on attendance, tells you at end of term he doesn't.
Best math teacher I've ever had, concerned with your grade if you are. I wish I could take him for all the classes. A little hard to understand his concepts. Take notes and do homework and ask questions, it's the best way to learn from him and you should do just fine.
Brilliant teacher, lots of homework! Very patient, offers many opportunities to catch up. Works individually with mathematically challenged people. Passes out his home number and responds to request for assistance with passion. His class is no doubt already full; He accepts all comers so get on that wait list and go to the first class!
Sign up now, before you are too late!
Malek is the best math teacher I've ever had! He is passionate about your success, but you have to want it too. He will not hold your hand, but if you go to him with questions, he won't give up until you get it. He has a wealth of wisdom beyond mathematics. Carefully listen to what he says and you will do well. He's the best!!
Had him 2 years ago for compressed calc. Never had another teacher so willing to help his students. Encourages you to call him if you have questions, even late at night. I hate doing homework, so I liked how most of the grade was based off of tests (which aren't bad--he explains how to do everything in class). Wish I could have him for 253
Who's writing these reviews? Did they take the same Malek? VERY CONFUSING teacher. Nice guy, but that's not enough to learn math! Rushes through chapters on the board way too fast to grasp the concepts. The quantity of HW is not possible before the next class for review. Test are hard(or not taught), with class test averages of 50% TERRIBLE!
Had him for Math 111 and was never so confused in my life. Exams = confusing. Lectures = nonsense. Not sure why he's getting such good reviews. I basically learned Math 111 from the tutoring center, not Malek. I found him to be a terrible and confusing instructor. Don't take his class unless you've had him before and liked him.
Over 2/3 of the class failed the 1st & 2nd exams, which prompted him to yell at us and tell us that if we retook the placement test we would all end up in MTH 20. Tests were vague, handwritten, and the basis of overall grade. Learned MTH 111 due to self-study and got a B. I do not recommend Malek at all. You're better off learning it on your own.
He is an extremely accomplished person...and doesn't shut up about it which can be very irritating, especially since our generation will never have the opportunities he had. To be fair, usually his anecdotes are quite interesting and/or funny! Overall, excellent math teacher- one of the best I've had. Very helpful and dedicated.
Malek was super helpful. He wouldn't move on until everyone in the class understood. I'm not at all a math person, but he really helped me to understand. Pay attention and ask questions, and you're guaranteed an A.
Malek is a fantastic professor. He *really* wants every student to succeed. He gives the class plenty of time to study. He provides you with an exact description of what types of questions will be on the exam & he provides any weird formulas so you won't have to guess. I wish I could pack him up & take him to PSU with me!
Malek is an AWESOME teacher! He is funny and very, very helpful. I would definately recommend him to anyone and everyone. He doesnt make you turn in homework, just wants you to study and pass the exams. TAKE HIS CLASS FO SHO!
Malek is a sweetheart. He is always willing to help! He will explain how to do a problem multiple ways if someone doesn't understand it the first way. He has a good sense of humor, and makes class enjoyable. He does group work which is helpful, because it allows you to try out the problems and ask any questions .Would highly recommend him to anyone
Perhaps the easiest math class I have taken since elementary school. He made calculus easy and made a math fan out of someone who generally doesn't care for math. Follow his handouts and the tests should be simple!
Malek is great. He really takes the time to ensure an overall understanding of whatever section of math we are covering. I've read some slightly negative reviews for him and it makes me think that they're so negative simply because Malek expects you to have a certain level of understanding before you take a higher level math course. Which is fair.
Very helpful and full of energy. Best math teacher I've had.
Malek is the best Math teacher I've ever had. He cares about your success in the class, and really wants you to know the material so you're ready for higher math classes. He's a colorful, engaging instructor who makes math fun. If he is teaching your next math course, stop thinking about it and sign up for his class.
I hate math so much and I made it through his class stress free because he was very clear during his lectures and super nice! He was like the nicest grandfather i never had. if you hate math i recommend this teacher because he'll help you not jump off a cliff.
Malek is one of the best math teachers you can ever hope to have.
Malek is a really nice guy who knows math inside and out. He moves fast through the course material. Homework is not graded, just for practice. He only grades tests done periodically through the term and they are tougher than any of the homework you will do. If you struggle with math, then he may not be the instructor for you.
Couldn't understand this guy in class for my life. I don't even know how I got a C in the class. Pretty sure he just felt bad for me or something. But he's a great one on one teacher. I needed his help on a chapter I missed and he wrote 10 pages of notes with me. He's a super nice guy. But ask for one on one help the second you're confused.
Malek was an incredible instructor! He explained every aspect of every section in detail. He would take AS MUCH TIME AS NEEDED for any questions about lecture or homework. It was a very comfortable environment, he makes it easy to ask questions (even when you might feel stupid). I would HIGHLY recommend him!
Malek was great. He is a very wise man, and he shares his wisdom with his students. However, he does not understand that most of us are not geniuses. He teaches to fast for me. All though he encourages questions if you do not understand. He also makes it clear who he likes and does not like. All in all, a very great, caring teacher.
awsome
HE CARES! If you don't understand, just give him a call to his number(he will give it to you before the first exam). He tries his best to make things clear. Loved his class. He is also hilarious. Humorous teacher!!
Malek was very helpful. Math is not one of my strong subjects. He was always available by phone to explain if I got stuck.
First off I need to say that Malek is hilarious. He really does make math fun! He loves math to no end and wants you to love it as well. He is willing to help you after class hours if you are having trouble with any equations. He also doesn't care about turning in home work and most of you grade is based off the tests.
Malek is a very kind man. You never use the book. He gives out tons of handouts that are handwritten and confusing. He explains the easy parts in class, but puts tough questions on the test that were never explained in class or on any handout. He will tell you that the test is easier than the homework, but this is not true.
I would not have passed this class with any other professor. Malek is amazing. He is very flexible and he really understands people. If you can take stats with him, do it. Tests are open note and he is always willing to help you outside of class in person or over the phone. He is THE ACTUAL BEST GUY OUT THERE.
This was the best math class I've ever taken. If you pay attention and do some of the practice problems (which he gives you time for in class), you'll easily get an A. His lectures made material easy. Class graded purely on tests - He's a SUPER easy-going grader. Plug one of the numbers in wrong and get a wrong answer because of it? Still 100%.
Malek was a great instructor. He explained statistics in a simple way. Anyone can learn statistics from him. He wants you to learn and succeed in his class. You can ask him any question and he will take his time to explain how to get the answer.
Truly the most genuinely kind man I have ever met! His passion for teaching is absolutely out of this world. He is patient and helpful. Don't miss class, and remember if he makes it "HOLLYWOOD STYLE" it is very important!! Take his classes, you will know exactly what I am saying!!
Malek is the jam. I hate math but I'm sad the term is ending. He's always relating intangible math theories to tangible real life situations. I wish he could teach all my required classes that I dread. You'll be lucky to have him!
I think Malek is a great guy, I honestly do, but I believe that he mixes up courses. I believe he was teaching MTH241 and MTH65 at the same time as our MTH60 course. I brought one of the questions to the math center and they said the question was a MTH90 question! Your grades are solely based on tests and attendance. So if he is putting questions on the test that you haven't even learned yet it's kind of hard to pass. Our last two tests over half of the class failed. He didn't think to go back over the material at all. He also has NO control over his class, people were talking about Pokemon GO during tests, girls talking about boyfriends during lectures, he had no way to stop anybody. The whole experience was horrible.
I really liked Malek. He treated you like an adult, and really cared that you understood the material. He let multiple people ask the same questions several times, in their own words, without getting frustrated. The only thing is he doesnt collect any homework, which killed me with points. He gave 3 tests and the final.
Very Patient! Malek is very kind and wants everyone to pass. He will answer ALL questions that the class may have. He will postpone exams if he doesnt feel the class is ready. He truly wants all of his students to pass.
Malek means well. He started off the quarter great, but seemed to get distracted as time went on. Sometimes he acts like a masterful teacher and sometimes he acts like train wreck. Pros: he cares about students. Cons: Malek loves talking about Malek, Malek's quality of teaching is too inconsistent from one day to the next.
Malek truly cares about his students and wants to help them understand math and succeed in all that they do in life, not just math. He is a very caring and approachable teacher. It had been awhile since I had done algebra and Malek explained things in a way where I understood them.
Malek is one of a kind. He genuinely cares about the success of his students, and is open to any questions you may have. He has an endearing sense of humor which makes the class enjoyable. The tests and quizzes make up your whole grade which makes the class more difficult, but he is an easy grader and gives partial credit.
By far one of the greatest teachers. He does whatever it takes to help you understand the material, and you can tell he really cares.
Truly a gem of a teacher. He is funny, willing to help, and very good at what he does.
Malek keeps things interesting. concepts are given importance and relevance.
Malek is a great teacher who takes the time to explain things in a way that is relatable. instead of just teaching us the steps to complete the problem, he would explain what we were actually doing and why we were doing it. Whenever I register for a new class I look for which classes he'll be teaching.
Prof. Daaboul goes above and beyond the students' expectation. He is patient, compassionate and expert on MATH. He makes the boring math subject very interesting and amazing for his students. He takes his time to explain everything from the beginning till end. He has a very good way of explaining the problems. His exams are based on the text book.
Malek is scattered and disorganized but makes up for it with larger-than-life lectures that are funny and engaging. He is available nights and weekends and even took my calls when I took a class with another instructor. He is emotional; thrilled mostly, and devastated when someone is unhappy. He will go to the moon and back for your success.
Professor Daaboul is truly one of the best professors I've ever had. He's not only willing but actually tries to help his students understand, grasp, and succeed with the information he is teaching. He asks you stop him the moment you are unclear so that you do not continue to fall behind. Shows real world examples to make relevant. Great Prof!!!!
Malek is an amazing teacher, he makes his classes so fun and has a lovely personality!! He really really cares about his students and wants to help everyone no matter what. I would be delighted to take a class with him again.
Awful your only graded on test.. there is not much learning material either
While Professor Malek is a funny guy, that doesn't make him a good teacher. He assumes everyone has either taken ALL PCC math courses, or everyone already knows what they are doing. When you ask a questions you are left with more questions than answers. Not helpful AT ALL. If you struggle in math at all DO NOT take this class.
Malek gives great feedback and is also a pretty funny guy, he isn't afraid of moving a test if the class isn't ready, and usually allows a note sheet for important tests. Most of the material is on hand outs that he makes himself, and he doesn't assign any homework.
Great teacher. If you have the chance to take this class with him do it!
Malek is a lovely person. However, because Im going from taking a pre-calc class where we must learn 3 textbook sections in one session, to Maleks class where he teaches 7 simple HW problems in 2.5 hours. This can be good for some he will make certain you understand the content. But for me, it was so slow I was falling asleep and rolling my eyes.
The Good: Malek is a great guy. He invites questions and takes a lot of time explaining . He jumps through all the hoops to make himself clear. There are no dumb questions. The Not So Good: He wastes a LOT of time with irrelevant stories. He turns lectures into study halls. His exams are too short. 10 questions. Miss 1 and you're screwed :(
Math 243 Malek is a goofy awesome teacher. He gives you the time to learn the material at your own speed. There no mandatory homework BUT I strongly recommend doing the homework and asking questions. He is not a computer person as in some of his assessments and notes are handwriting. You may need a 2 in binders for all the notes.
Would definitely recommend him. Many teachers had to adapt to COVID quickly, and Malek did a great job. Zoom lectures are used with a whiteboard and visualizer so it's almost like being in the classroom. He emphasizes his office hours (which are almost all day b/c COVID) and wants you to ask questions. He will give extra credit if you ask questions
I didnt really pay attention, got a low B. Hes accessible to those who want to learn.
"Always show your work if you love yourself - Malek Daaboul. He's a competent and caring professor who goes out of his way to help his students understand the material. I only wish I took his class in a normal term, so I could learn more from him. Take notes, do all the homework, and ask questions.
An amazing professor! The BEST I ever taken!!!! If you struggle in his class and you ask a quesiton during lecture will answer and explain it to you with different examples. He respects all students levels of math and challenges you so you can get better. When asking simple quesiton he does not shame or doubt the student's math skills. He cares!
He was a really great professor for me during fall 2020. Everything was remote so it was a little hard but he made it very easy for his students. He gives out lots of problems during lectures and we go over them together in class. He's super friendly and understanding and will not get upset if you ask for help, he will patiently explain it to you.
Great for after hours access, gives out his home phone #. We only had (3) tests and a Final for our grade. Crammed last (2) weeks of course into final week. Does not allow you time to ask questions (Moves too Fast), but will stop and go back if you interrupt and ask a question. Great at talking you through problem solving steps.
I usually despise math. Malek made Trig enjoyable + really easy to learn. He goes fast, but it's all repetitive stuff, so it really gets engrained in your head. I loved this class and wish I could take Malek again. He is also very caring and kind, despite seeming gruff at first. A truly kind and caring man who wants you to learn with no tricks.
First of all, he's great at teaching. Everything was clear and easily understandable in his lectures. He really wants you to understand the material with no tricks. The only problem I had was that I never got a response after I sent him an email. But that's probably because of it being a remote class. I highly recommend him.
Malek was extremely nice and seemed to really care about his students learning and was always open to any questions. His lectures did tend to feel like they went on for a really long time and i would often get bored. It is also sometimes difficult to understand him in terms of his wording. He also mostly grades off tests with questions 50 pts each
Malek made things very easy to understand. I’m used to by the textbook teaching, and he did exactly that. His lectures can be long/boring sometimes, but what do you expect in math class. He makes sure ALL questions get answered. He believed that if one person has a question, another person is thinking the same one.
Malek is one of the best teachers I have had. GO TO CLASS, PARTICIPATE, ASK QUESTIONS, and you will do great. He is not afraid to go over any question you have and really walks you through the process. Don't miss a lecture - he covers a lot in one session. Read his handouts. He's a tough grader but gives you points as long as you show your steps.
Malek is a great math teacher, I was so intimidated to take stats but he made it super understandable & FUN! He has a great attitude/is super approachable. Do not miss lectures because he explains a lot & it is a great time to ask Q's. The reason for my B is due to me being 8 mo pregnant & being heavily exhausted w/ other 2 courses I was taking.
A great person!
