This Woman SUCKS!!!! Never Take Her!
Not too bad, not too good.
This teacher taught straight from the book...was very tough...recommended NOT to take this professor.
DO NOT TAKE THIS WOMAN....She may know her stuff but can't teach it to hardly anyone. You ask her a question and it's "Oh, I don't know that answer"...to just about EVERYTHING!
i needed .3 percent to pass the course and was shot down, even though i explained that i changed my course of study and wanted to get away from science and not have to retake the class. she cast me into another semester of hell. thanks ;)
Malinda is very much "by the book"......no BS. She is very straightforward and teaches well. The people that don't like her are obviously dullards and do not care about learning the material.
She knew the material, but was not very effective or helpful in getting it across to us.
She is by far the worst teacher I have ever had. I was very excited to take the biology lab, and I have always loved biology, until I took her lab. I now hate the class and dread going. I am even changing my major. DO NOT take this teacher.
This woman is so freakin anal about everything! She just needs to take her Texas Roadhouse ass outta Kentucky cus she can't teach worth a crap!
she is a hard teacher. very unclear
Who ever wrote bad comments about this teacher must have had an off day I think she is a great teacher. She is very fair and understanding.
Easy class if you look at the material. Tests and writing assignments come straight from the book and from notes. If you fail this class it would be your own fault for not picking up the book. Average teacher.
I felt that she didn't explain things very well and she speeds through the material too quickly to understand her!
I THINK THAT MRS. MCMURRY IS A OKAY, AND I WOULD TAKE HER AGAIN, SHE DOES MOVE FAST BUT SHE WILL HELP YOU ALL SHE CAN, AND SHE DOES GIVE EXTRA HELP FOR WORK. SHE IS NICE AS WELL
This teacher is very nice and goes out of her way to have review sessions with her students. When going over the material, she makes it clear which parts of pictures you'll have to know by placing a dot by label names. Her tests are multiple choice, but don't let that fool you -- you still have to study a WHOLE lot (way more than other classes)!
I think that she did a good job teaching! She would help you if you need it! Some people just needed to shut there mouths in class and listen you might have doen better. I would recommand you take her because, if you in the 55-59 range she will go ahead and pass you.
Take her she is good better then some people, if you need help just ask she is willing to help you! I would take her again
I think that she is very sweet and very helpful..her lectures are kinda boring but she explains everything very well..and she always ask if anyone has any questions and she is more than happy to answer them the best she can if u do..her test are kind of hard but u HAVE to study..
A teacher that knows too much for her own good. Doesn't explain things too well and grades ridiculously hard. Ex.- took 2 points off one time because my name was in the wrong place on my paper. Will NEVER let you out early no matter how simple the lab is, she will find some way to keep you the full time. If you can take someone else, take him/her.
I didn't like her. Also she DOES find ways to keep you longer. She actually turned the clock in the room backk 5 mintues. Can you believe that?
she is really nice and very understanding. anatomy is a hard class in itself, so you cannot expect the class to be easy, but she made it possible for you to get good grades in that class. her lectures were boring and she always kept us longer than an hour but i'd rather her cover the material than have it show up on the tests unexpectedly
Drones on and on. Doesn't care if you learn, just there for a paycheck. Doesn't make class interesting at all. Take someone else.
awful could careless if we understood or not. she just gets up and starts talking. no questions are asked of anything from the time you walk in till the time you walk the only thing you hear is her talking about complete non since.
So much to say. She's very knowledgeable, but doesn't know how to explain material well. Is very picky about quizzes, and exams. Wouldn't take her again, and wouldn't recommend. She will keep you in lab, even if you are completely finished, and have all work completed.
She is one the worst teachers I have ever had!! She doesn't explain the material very well. She just from one chapter to a different one. Even when she says that a certain chapter will be on a test, that chapter is not even on the test!!! DO NOT....AND I MEAN DO NOT EVER TAKE HER!!!!!
This class sucks. She couldn't teach a dog to shake hands. Jumping from chapter 2 to 18, you never jnow what to study!!I do not recommend her class to ANYONE!!
She keeps the lectures moving fast, but she's easy to understand and nice to students.
She's a very smart woman, but her class is difficult because she doesn't know how to explain things well. With extremely hard work, you can manage to pull off a "B" in this class, but it takes a lot of studying and memorization. Overall, she is a nice person, just not a good teacher.
I agree with most of the posters on here. She doesn't seem to know what she is talking about half the time. The tests are pretty hard, and this is coming from someone who loves biology.
She is a very nice person. If you need help with something she'll do her best to help you eveif it's not for her class. She's also the kind of person who will try to make you laugh with some corny jokes but she means well.
This class is really hard. The only reason I say this is because everything is straight from the book and she doesn't try to explain it in an easier way. She doesn't attempt to answer questions when you ask. All she says is "I don't know, I'll have too look it up." Her final is comprehensive and you have to memorize about 100 pages of notes.
I took her for 171 Lab, and she explained everything so well. If you had any questions or issues, she was always willing to help. If you pay attention in class and study your lab manual, you will be completely prepared for her quizzes and the lab exams. Highly recommend her for lab.
She's not that bad of a person, but sometimes she treats students like they do not know anything. She wastes too much time lecturing, and doesn't give much time to actually do the lab. Her tests are almost ridiculous.
THE TESTS ARE MISERABLE!
Ms. Mcmurry is awesome and so sweet! Her tests can be kind of tough but if you really study, and put other things aside you will do great. She makes learning fun.
I've always liked bio and have always done well in it. Until this class. She doesn't explain things well and the tests are inhuman at best even with hours of studying. She might know the material backwards and forwards, but she has no idea how to teach it to others. Steer clear if at all possible.
Nice person but pretends to be an English teacher. Her lab is so hard that it is going to bring my lecture grade down. One of the hardest grading professors I know. Make sure you know every single detail and then some.
She will tell you to study one thing but then test you on something completely different! Shes terrible with emails. Also she will give you 25 min to complete a 85 question exam.
She is terrible!!! If you want a class where you basically have to teach yourself then your want her for your teacher all she does is lecture on nothing and skips around topix:/
Her lectures move very, very fast, but I always leave class knowing something that I didn't know before I walked in. Her tests are very lengthy but if you spend a lot of time studying the material, you should be fine. She's always there if you have a concern or question about the class, very helpful!
The tests are all multiple choice, even added some bonus questions. She schedules a review session before each test and is willing to work around a time. You really have to study hard. She'll answer any question you have during class; never expect to get out early or for class to cancel...even when the electricity goes out.
Her tests are long so you can have a better chance at getting a good score. Lots of small quizzes that you get at least 50% on for just doing them. Don't need the book - PowerPoints cover all of it. Extra credit questions on everything. Material is hard but it's easy to get by. Lectures are a bit dull. She plans study sessions before every test!
Professor McMurry didn't seem to know much about her subject. Almost every question in class was met with "I'll have to look that up". There are daily iclicker quizzes so you can't really miss any class. The tests are extremely hard and the final is comprehensive, so prepare for that. Overall, I recommend another teacher.
Wouldn't really recommend this professor. She has an okay personality but her knowledge on the subject she is teaching is mediocre at best. Every time my group asked a question in lab she had to go run to her office and look up the answer. Not really the person to have when you need to prepare for a lab exam designed by Dr. Demoss.
She is straight forward, therefore you know what is expected of you. However it is a lot of information to cover. Every day in class is sitting through power points that she posts online. She does take attendance though so you need to go to class in order to get those points.
She is honestly a terrible professor. I couldn't learn from her at all. Shes not even a biology teacher. Shes a zoologist.
She's a very nice person. I tend to print out the Powerpoints she provides and make additional notes on them. Her tests are very strait forward and come strait from the notes. You must pay attention in class and study. She always gives bonus questions and has a quiz at least once a week.
She was awful, yes that's rude but its true.
If you aren't doing well in her class it is your fault. She makes it clear what she expects from you and her tests are probably the easiest I have taken in three years of college. They are very straightforward. If you learn the powerpoints you will make an A.
The tests are insane. There's a quiz every time you walk in the door, and she doesn't tell you what it is going to be on. The lectures are miserable. Power points are your best friend.. Memorize every single slide. You have to calculate your own grade, so keep up with what you get. Overall, try to find an alternative. Good luck y'all.
The hardest course I have taken thus far. There will be a quiz every single day. It is impossible to know all that is expected of you for tests. Lectures are so hard to pay attention to because they are fast and so boring.
I had to take McMurry when they switched her and Demoss for 235. She talks to her computer, rather than the students. She never gets lectures finished on time, and she stays very behind. Tests are decently hard, but if you study you can get an A or B. Overall, lecture quality is low. She also doesn't give much of a way to raise your grade.
Talks to her computer not the class. You're not gonna know how to expect your final grade until it's too late. She is a walking textbook, don't expect to pack up your belongings without getting called out for it until at least 30 seconds AFTER class was supposed to end
This class has honestly been the most useless class Ive taken this semester. Most of her powerpoint slides are the exact same thing and are full of useless pictures. She talks about random things that dont even pertain to the subject matter. Her tests are ridiculous and all in all is a terrible class. I dont recommend taking.
Professor McMurry is a tough grader and has very little course material to work with and be graded on.
So, I am a PreMed major and I thought this was the Anatomy I was supposed to take, but turns out I took the wrong one. I didn't know this until the drop class deadline passed, but I am taking the right one the next semester. McMurry was a very good professor. Hard, but good. She expects a lot out of you because we are adults. I would take her again
McMurry is really nice but she was my least fav professor. She teaches solely from the PowerPoints associated with the textbook & she has trouble getting through the material on time. Her tests are usually between 60-130 questions long: 1st half identification, 2nd half multiple choice.. but she gives some bonus questions at the end of each test
This woman drove me NUTS. If attendance did not count as a grade, I wouldn't go because she reads STRAIGHT from the power points and nothing else. She was never prepared and there was always mistakes on her exams. Just very unprofessional in my opinion.
Super aggravating professor. Keeps you over during class which is super annoying when you have to go across campus for your next class! Made us sit in her class for 45 minutes and watch her have computer trouble before letting us leave finally. Honestly over explains way too much, explaining it twice is enough.
For this course, she will prepare you for future BIOL courses quite well. She read straight from the Powerpoint she made (which usually is a negative aspect, but her Powerpoints are information-rich), her quizzes and exams usually had typos, she always asks if you have questions, and is willing to expand on a difficult topics.
I do dread going to her lectures because she reads straight from the PowerPoints which are accessible on Blackboard. So, everyone shows up just for the attendance grade and exams. Quizzes and other assignments are online. She does hold a few minutes overtime, sometimes. You ABSOLUTELY cannot have your phone out or else she will mark you absent.
I don't have words to describe how upset I am with McMurry. Just save yourself the unnecessary aggravation and don't take her. Ever. She's having an exam the Thursday before finals week, and then our final's the Tuesday of finals week. And the final is all new material. This is just one out of many crazy things she's done. Do. Not. Take. McMurry.
In an entry level class, with no prerequisites, McMurray has made a whole semester worth of Anatomy into 5 tests. The first test was the week before Spring Break (Mid-term). She has scheduled our 4th test 1 week after the 3rd and it is scheduled the Thursday before finals. Our final over another 650+ powerpoint slides is on Tuesday.
was told to rent the book for 234 and never used it. she solely teaches from her long powerpoints. Didn't need book for 235 either. exams dont follow a scheduled timeline: gave us 1 in 1st half of semester& crammed 4 in during last few weeks of class. Didnt teach half of material on last exams. only grades in class were exams. memorize powerpoints!
she is okay for lab !
Do not take McMurry. She is terrible and needs to be fired. All she does is read from a PowerPoint!!! Do yourself a favor, do not take her.
You have to go to class or you won't understand anything. She foes over the powerpoint and not much else. She goes through 100 slides a class. Test were hard. You have to study. She is a hard teacher and very strict but she can also be understanding as well.
I liked Mrs. McMurry as a professor. Her lectures may be long and from a powerpoint, but she explains things clearly and she knows what she's talking about. She grades weird but she gives you resources to study with and will schedule reviews so you can pass tests (you don't need the book). The only other work she really gives are quizzes.
She really knows her stuff and is incredibly intelligent. However her lectures are longer than they need to be on simple topics and short on those that are more complex. Shes the toughest grader on tests and quizzes Ive ever had. Her reasoning was because other professors grade that hard and you need to be ready.
I've taken two of McMurry's classes this year, BIOL234 and 235. Skimmed by 234 with a C and am probably getting a D in 235. We took 1 test from January to April, and then the last four tests were crammed in the last few weeks of the semester. She's really intelligent and knows her stuff, her class is just incredibly difficult.
She doesnt leave any time in class for the labs to be completed.
Just the worst. Had her for Bio 244 lab. All she does it read off of the powerpoint and if you have a question her usual answer is, I don't know. Weekly quizzes have nothing to do with what you did in class the week before. Avoid at all costs.
This is a lab for an introductory course and she made lab harder than it needed to be. My least favorite part was that she took almost an hour to explain what was already taught to us in lecture, making it hard to complete the lab in the allotted time unlike other professors. Also, she makes you turn in every lab exercise unlike other professors.
Ms. McMurry is a very nice and understanding lady who cares about her students. She teaches from PowerPoints that have lots of information on them, and she goes into detail with them. She also has WebEx meetings before every exam. You can tell she loves her job. PLEASE STUDY. If you are not willing to put in the work for this class, do not take it.
Stay on top of work, great professor.
I had to take this class for my nursing major. We did not have any assignments in this class besides quizzes /exams. The powerpoints that she posts for us to read are almost always 100+ slides. She does know what she is talking about but she is not good when it comes to teaching students what they need to know to pass the class. I do NOT recommend!
I wouldn't wish this class upon my worst enemy!!! DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!!! The grades are only from quizzes and exams. She has browser lockdowns for her exams and makes them impossible. No matter how much I studied I never received anything higher than a D. When I personally asked for help she literally did nothing.
Her studyguides are extremely long and specific. Id study those, memorize the answers and understand it, then the exams are over small details hidden within the 300+ PowerPoint slides For the whole exam. She was nice, but exams are impossible. Surprised I received a passing grade
Good professor! When I took her class for Anatomy and Physiology, it was my second time taking it. I went from getting a low C or D to As and Bs in her class. She explains everything so well, and makes things seem a lot easier (which is very important in anatomy and physiology). She is also not super strict and fairly laid back, which is nice.
She knows her stuff but her lectures are ridiculously long and boring, I was always trying to not fall asleep. No homework which is nice but lots of quizzes and tests. Study the powerpoints to pass quizzes and tests.
She is a wonderful professor for lab. If I made a mistake in lab she would let me try again until I could get it right. She was a very easy grader. She also tried to make sure that you understood the material and what was going on.
Ms. McMurry was a wonderful lab professor to take. She would explain the content well and in-depth and was very nice and understanding when you went to her for help. If you asked her to show you how to do something in the lab, she'd be more than happy to help you. She would also give lots of partial credit for her quizzes.
Literally the worst lab professor I have ever had. DO NOT TAKE HER.
her powerpoints are terrible and very long and boring. When you do her test they are worded differently and her exams are the worst I have seen. do not recommend her class what so ever STAY AWAY!
worst professor in history of professors, literally if u want to pass dont take her
She has very clear expectations of what she wants from you and gives you plenty of attempts to correct your work, even if you dont complete all the homework she will still give a grade for what you did do.
Mcmurry is knowledgable and kind but studying for her class was horrendous because of the 100+ powerpoint slides you would have to study. Grades were from quizzes and tests both being proctored. I barely passed with a 74 so unless you are determined to study hard, I wouldn't reccommend her class.
Her powerpoints are redundant, disorganized, and hard to understand and you basically have to guess what you need to know for quizzes/exams due to the overwhelming amount of detail she uses. The only reason I haven't failed is because she gives 2 attempts on quizzes so I can go back and study what I actually need to know, choose someone else.
Do NOT take this class. I am good at biology and chemistry and her class is impossible. It was fine for the first two weeks then you're taking quizzes over 6 hours of lecture every week with 70 question exams that are nothing like the past quizzes. She WANTS you to fail. Dropped and taking it through community collect.
Ms. McMurry was a great lab instructor. She explains everything in depth and will go over something with you if you don't understand it. Her exams were difficult but if you study for them you should do pretty good on them. She does except a lot of you and their is a lot of homework to go along with the class. She does do quizzes before every class.
McMurry knows what she is talking about however she isnt very good at teaching it. The Biology 234 had many long detailed lectures that took hours. If this is your only class that might be okay but with 4 or 5 other classes it makes it impossible. On average you would need at least 4-5 hours a day to study for her test and/or exams.
As someone who had all A's in everything but this lab, I fought for the B I got. She will tell you that she's there to help, but she doesn't respond very well to students asking for help. She is an EXTREMELY particular grader, you will get points off for stuff as stupid as how you write your letters and if she thinks they are capitalized or not.
Challenging lab with clear expectations, but the professor is helpful. Use unstuck study and stay on top of the work to do well.
