Big ditz. Annoying to listen to. Drop quickly and get anyone else.
she is easy and it's true she's retarded
horrible teacher, really off the wall in a bad sort of way
I had her in the mini term and it is true that she is very odd. She does do one thing better than most other math teachers at ut however, she can speak english.
not recommended. makes class confusing because she doesn't really know what she's talking about.
shes not the greatest teacher but not the worst. she goes over things well just doesn't give it to ya so youll remember it. not to shabby of a looker.
I thought she was a great teacher. Very fun to learn math with and she made it easy to understand. First math class i have actually enjoyed. Wish i could have her again
Mrs. Peery is a great math teacher. She explains things very thoroughly and will not test you over a problem that she has not covered in class. She is also a sweet person.
Easiest math teacher I've ever had. She explains things very well and if you do the homework and write down everything, then you'll get an A. I never made less than an A on any quiz or test in her class. I would highly reccomend her.
I really enjoyed her class. She is very nice and explains things well. I never made below an A on a test or quiz. If you have a question she will go over it again, but usually her teaching is very clear the first time. I highly recommend you take her class. She is a very nice person and even a bit humorous at times.
Mrs. Peery is a great math teacher. I am horrible at math but she explains every thing very well and if you do all the homework assignments, the tests are easy. The quiz questions are usually taken directly from the homework problems and the practice tests are usually the exact same format of the real thing.
Ms. Peery is a great math teacher. She makes math easy and enjoyable. I have never really had a prob. with math but i have never liked it either. But she makes class easy.
Great math teacher.
Seriously an excellent math teacher.
The best math teacher I have ever had. She makes Calculus 125 seem easy. She does step by step and gives you quizzes everyday to help make your grade the best possible by getting multiple grades. I really enjoy her. She even gives points for attendence..
She is the best math teacher! If at all possible take her! she is super nice and will help you in every way possible!
She's a really great teacher!!! you don't really use the book except for online homework, and you don't have to do the homework. It's an easy A if you can remember high school alg. 2.
Greatest math teacher ever! I'm terrible at math but she makes it where 5 year olds can understand it...very clear on what she expects and is the sweetest lady ever! this class will be my first A in college (i'm a soph)
VERY nice. will help if asked and she is very good at helping one on one. easy if you do your homework and keep up (which was my problem at the beginning at the semester)
She is extremely nice and always helps when you ask for it. She is very understanding but sometimes treats you like you know nothing. Other then that she's an awesome teacher!
Mrs. Peery is the BEST math teacher at UT! She is extremely helpful and does not give up on her students if they do not understand. She teaches at an elementary level in some cases, but it's what I needed! She requires attendance and gives pop quizzes, but it's do-able class. I didn't need it, so I dropped it... but she's GREAT!
Mrs. Peery is the best math teacher i've ever had. She is so clear in her explanations and really makes sure everyone understands. She does give frequent quizzes but as long as you know what is going on you will be okay. She also assigns homework but it is not mandatory. Tests are somewhat difficult but I ended up with an A in the class easily.
Simply Amazing! what a great first semester experience. she is awesome... EASY A!!!
Seriously...best math teacher ever!
Most incredible math teacher I've ever had. She won a Chancellor's award this year for her teaching, and it's well-deserved. Her lectures are totally clear and she'll stop and review basics if you're 'not getting it'. Frequent quizzes, but she hints about them in advance, and she does good review sheets before tests. She cares about her students.
The best math teacher I've ever had. The notes are step by step and exactly what you need to learn. I missed a lot of class traveling and it was still a walk in the park.
wonderfully amazingly interesting class
She is a great teacher! She makes everything very easy to understand by doing every step of the process.
teacher is good. homework is all web based which sucks! tests are a little bit harder than example and worksheets you get in class though. overall she is good, i would retake her.
She was wonderful! Always willing to give extra help! Her notes were very organized and thoroughly explained the material. I would HIGHLY suggest her as a teacher! You do have weekly assigned homework on top of studying for test and quizzes but it was not bad at all.
Pretty good teacher, she went a little fast but the material was easy so it wasn't a big problem. the only downside is the webassign homework which sucks.
She is great!
LOVE HER!!! She's super nice and makes the material really easy and her notes are VERY clear. She takes attendence every class so you should go to class, although if you do go to class, it really helps. There were 4 tests and a final, but there was a quiz every week. Also, she doesnt give partial credit if your work is right but the answer is wrong
she was a great teacher for my first semester. we didn't use the book unless you wanted extra practice and at the begining for a few learning quizzes. There was a quiz every week but you know what the material is over. i'm am taking her 125 class now
Ms. Peery is an awesome teacher. For those of you who don't like math or struggle with it, be sure to get her as your teacher. She makes it as painless as possible and is always willing to help. She goes over material very well and as long as you show up to class there should be no reason you don't get an A.
Great teacher, much like a high school teacher in that she seems to care more about the individual than most professors. only complaint is she moves a little fast, but most people should not have any trouble. Highly recommended!
Math isn't my subject in the least so I couldn't be happier to have Mrs. Peery. She's very helpful when it comes to the course and I actually based my last two semestes around my math course to make sure I had her as my teacher. She gives plenty of notes, examples and practice problems, and is willing to help further if you're still having trouble.
Unlike most math professors, she can explain math to non-math people very well.
She is by far the best college professor I've had!! Her pace is upbeat, she keeps your attention, and she never uses the book. All of the homework is on Webassign and if you can figure out how to work the online system it's a breeze. Attendance is figured into the grade. Take notes they are useful for the homework. Plus she is American!!!!
Such a great teacher. She was always willing to answer questions and made sure everyone understood the material.
She made the material super simple. If you get a chance, and plan on attending class, you couldn't ask for a better teacher.
NOTE TAKING GUIDES! She is by far the best teacher ever. She is young and cool. She makes math easy and useful! I wish i could have her for 125 :( She is wonderful!
Ms. Peery is a great teacher. She wants you to pass so she will explain it to you if you dont understand. It is very easy to get an A in her class. Take her if its possible.
I LOVED HER! one of the best teachers I've ever had. great at explaining everything & gives good notes. Tests are easy & she tells you exactly what are going to be on them. WebAssign is the only reason why I didnt get an A.. just go to class, & do ALL your WebAssign! also try to get into a class without a recitation time. I hated recitation. boo
Great professor, pretty much spoon feeds your brain. You have to not pay any attention to fail her class.
Take her.
Wonderful professor! Take her if at all possible. The only thing I would say is to not even bother with buying a textbook, I never even opened mine. You do webassign for homework, so buying a textbook is not neccesary
Best teacher I've ever had on any level. Take her at all costs
Best teacher I've ever had on any level. Seriously take her at all costs.
I don't think a better teacher exists. She is the perfect teacher. She always helps, never degrades you, and gives the best tips and tricks to remember how to works problems. Do not take anybody else's math class. Also, textbooks not necessary in her classes.
Great teacher. Print off her notes from blackboard and go to class and you won't have any problems at all.
AMAZING TEACHER! I love Ms. Peery!! You will not find a better math teacher at UTK... I plan on taking her for all the math courses that I have to have.. A+ teacher!
Ms. Peery was very helpful all the time and explained the material really well. Tests weren't bad at all. I recommend her!
I am horrible at math and absolutely could not believe I pulled out an A in this class. With all math classes you MUST attend regularly in order to be successful. Her teaching method makes everything so easy to understand and her definitions are solid. She is thee best Math professor I've ever had and she has the ability to teach a rock.
Ms.Peery is a fabulous math teacher! Math is my worst subject and she takes all the time needed to make sure we clearly understand the topics. The BEST math teacher I have ever had. So good, I requested her for my next level math class. Absolutely take her class if you get the chance!
She is wonderful! She has a great sense of humor in class, and her notes are excellent and crucial to pass the course. So go to class! 4 Tests in the course
Ms. Peery is a wonderful teacher. She is very helpful....I love this lady to death! It is required for you to go class or you will get behind. I would pick Ms. Peery any day.
Ms. Peery is a really good math teacher! I'm mathmatically retarded and I havent made below an A on a test. She gives you note-taking guides which make everything crystal clear. Her tests are really straighforward and like the examples she uses in class. She gives you a lot of cushion for your grade and drops a few quizzes at the end. She's great.
notes make everything super easy. tests are the notes and study guide. no bok used. amazing teacher that actually cares if you understand
Peery is an excellent professor. I would recommend her over any one else. I have taken for all my math classes and I received an A in all her classes. She is helpful and the notes taking guide makes it easy to understand. I absolutely love this lady. I suggest you take her for math 119, 123, or 125.
Best math teacher at UT. You really learn in her class and everything is just not memorized and forgotten.
Very sweet lady! Always patient and kind and willing to go over things until everyone says they understand. Go to class and do your homework!
didn't want to help in any way shape or form with any problems that I had. Refused to give extensions for any reason! Do not take her for math
I love Mrs. Peery! She is very sweet and you can tell she wants you to learn the material. She always has office hours and you can email her about anything. I highly recommend her for math! Taking her again next semester because I know I will get the material! She is very patient and knows what she is talking about when it comes to math!
Excellent teacher! Even if you're not a math minded person, you will be able to get an A if you attend the class and take notes.
She is an extremely nice person! I like her as a person and she was a decent teacher, I fouhd her tests to be difficult which may not be her fault but overall I would have probably taken someone else having the option
She is literally the sweetest most helpful math teacher at ut. The material is pretty much regulated by the department so it's about as easy as you best math skills but she is like a kindergarten teacher the way she explains things so thoroughly. I would suggest her
She is very helpful and easy to understand. She works with you if you miss class and need help or miss an assignment.
Mrs. Peery is GOLDEN! I highly suggest her. She is extremely helpful and caring about her students. You have to go to class, but with her notes and study guides for the test, the class is not so bad. Her tests are very similar to the study guide she gives. TAKE PEERY!
Mrs. Peery is the best teacher in the Math dept. She knows how to engage the students and keep their attention. You do not need the book because online comes with E-book. She uses the clicker system every day and it counts for around 5-10% of grade. She also lets students work together on homework and most quizzes, so pick good people to sit by.
I took Mrs. Peery for Basic Calculus, which is NOT my subject, and I still did remarkably well! Like others have said, you do need to attend class because she does do clicker points daily. Her note taking guides make the material as simple and possible and she has a great way of explaining things, even if you aren't mathematically inclined.
She is a great teacher, very clear in her lectures and very helpful outside of class. She really cares about your grade and wants everyone to succeed. I will probably take all of my math classes through her. You won't find a better teacher at UT
LOVED HER !!! she would always answer your questions and be clear with her explanations, and the tests are just like the practice tests she pots online before the test
Prof Peery is one of the best teachers I've had so far at UT. She's extremely clear when she teaches and her note taking guides are so helpful (I wish every math teacher would utilize them).
Attendance is not mandatory but she does clicker points daily. Extremely awesome teacher, for anyone who struggles with math normally she makes it as easy and clear to understand as possible! Best math teacher I've had at UT.
She's a great teacher, but moves kinda slow. She's more than likely to cover all your basics. I know she teaches other classes, and I plan on taking her again. There are a lot of notes and online work, but because there is so much of it there is no way you can make a bad grade. She defiantly a good Algebra teacher and the TAs are just as helpful.
Only had a lecture once a week; the other scheduled time was for help on homework and attendance was optional. Everything is learned off of videos, there is a quiz once a week with no partial credit. A lot of homework is always due on Fridays. She does make sure you watch the lecture videos with quick and easy homework every few days.
Prof. Peery is great. She did a blended course so half of the class was online & the other half was her reviewing the material. I found the class to be rather easy, but i know some people struggled. As long as you go to her office hours you'll be fine. She literally is the sweetest person ever.
Let it be known, I am not mathematically inclined at all. I took Ms. Peery for Calculus and she is amazing! She has lecture outlines that make the material easy to understand. She really cares about the students and is willing to help as much as possible. Attendance is mandatory because she does clicker slides.
Ms. Peery was a phenomenal instructor. I took her over the summer for math 119 and during fall break for math 125. Her expectations are clear and she is very clear cut. Think that you're afraid of basic calc and college algebra? No fear here! Take Ms. Peery Hands down. She is one of the best teachers you will find at UT.
Ms. Peery is the nicest math teacher I have ever had. You have to go to class, but she helps you so much and will answer any question you have. She is so understanding and I would take her class again.
I would definitely say this teacher is a good teacher. She is very clear in lectures and gives good examples. She gives study guides and they are very similar to the tests. She is very helpful if you need help. As long as you do the HW on webassign and study guides you will do fine in the class.
Really great professor! She has video lectures online and you go into class to take group quizzes and do group assignments. The video lectures are really helpful because you are able to go at your own pace and re-watch if needed. She is very willing to help and if I would've taken advantage of this I no doubt would've ended this course with an A.
was taught in video lectures. In lecture we would go over homework problems. You had lecture checks due along with the homework assignments
Ms. Peery is one of the best professors I have had here at UT. Inredibly helpful when you need it, makes things crystal clear, and always encourages questions. Lectures are online and very very easy. I failed Math 119 last year because of my horrible professor, but she saved the day in the end. If you have the ability to take her, DO IT!!!!
Mrs. Peery is hands down the best math teacher i have ever had. I never had confidence in math and had terrible test anxiety but she has completely changed my confidence. You will always be prepared for her tests and she does not try to trick you. Best professor you could ask for.
So I took two other Math 119 (and failed/withdrew) before getting Ms. Peery. Not only did I pass the class, but I actually learned how to do math! I highly recommend her!
Ms. Peery is by far the best Math professor at UT. Took her for both 119 and 125. Always able to help when needed. Very clear when explaining the topics. Highly recommend.
This class you watch EVERY lecture online so you can't ask questions while learning. Totally taught through a TA. She is NOT as helpful as people put on here when I asked for help. I would never take her if I had to do it over again. Everything is in groups you cant miss one class because there is work to turn in EVERY TIME. And homework CONSTANTLY
Mrs. Peery is the professor, but she is not really involved in the class. You will have a TA (also called a REACT leader) teach your class, but you watch Peery's lectures online before every class. There is a lot of homework, but it is online. The material is all review from high school. Go to class because there is group work and clicker quizzes.
Decent though in a flipped classroom style
By far the best gen-ed math teacher at UT. I took her for 119 and 125 and I would do it again in a heartbeat. She explains the concepts in way that you can understand and that helps you build on new concepts. TAKE HER.
Participation matters due to quizzes. Prof. Peery is so great! Literally got to UT and heard nothing but great things about her! She's literally the best in the math department here. Class is flipped so notes outside of class and group work in class to help with understanding. Homework is regularly assigned. She's great!
Malissa Peery is terrible. Yeah, she does video lectures, which can be helpful-- to an extent. I have seen her once this whole semester because our classes are "taught" by REACT leaders that don't know what REACT stands for. Peery is of no help, has no remorse for her students and sends many condescending emails to her students in a passive way.
Here's the deal with Peery. Her "lectures" are the equivalent to watching Khan Academy videos and using that to make an actual class. I have not seen Mrs. Peery the entire semester. Our class is supervised by a grad student that is just a puppet. The most she has done for us is send out emails "scolding" us on our poor performance.
Had Mrs. Peery for Math 119 and got the easiest A, so I took her again for Math 125 and never regretted my decision. Yes her lectures are online but she does an excellent job of teaching through it. Granted I could have handled the classroom stuff better than the REACT leaders, but just get over that part and the rest is fine! Definitely recommend.
Look in college if you need help, you have to find it. Gone are the days of teachers beating your door down to make sure you understand something. I've had Ms. Peery for two semesters, and I couldn't have done it without constantly being in her office or at the MTC for math help. She is tough, you get the grade you earn but she is always available.
The class is fairly simple if you have some sort of calculus background. I literally never studied and received an A. The structure of the class got old and boring very quick. The REACT leader will do note checks and the online lectures were helpful but mostly a waste of time.
Mrs. Peery is an amazing teacher. If you go to her office hours, she will help with any sort of questions you may have. Also, she is not afraid to make personal connections with students that go to her office hours. She is very clear and vocal about what to expect on tests. Her class does require a lot of work, but its worth it.
Mrs. Peery cares about her students. Study for exams and you should be fine. Homework is on webassign and you get 5 tries at it. The class is also a flipped class where you watch lectures online and ask questions in class, good since you can go at your own pace. Very helpful and clear at what she wants. Def would recommend.
The combination of the online lectures and class work made it really difficult to learn and it was very overwhelming because we went through the material really fast and if you get behind it's almost impossible to catch up.
Ms. Peery is great! I have always been pretty bad at math, but she is the first math teacher I've ever had that made me actually understand it. I took this course in the miniterm so it was a lot of work and pretty intense. She is super nice, so don't be afraid to ask questions! She won't make you feel dumb. She is very clear about what she expects.
I have had Ms. Peery for two semesters, Math 119 and now 125. She is awesome! I love her video lectures that you watch before class so you can easily participate in class, or you can ask questions about the lesson in class. She's very accessible outside of class too. I am not a strong math student and but earned B's in both. Definitely take her!
Ms. Peery teaches with online video lectures and a TA teaches and leads group work in class. The video lectures can be confusing at times, but if you have a good TA, the class is the best. I had Miss Sulyok and would definitely recommend taking her.
I loved taking Mrs. Peerys course. I finally learned the material after years of retaking the same course and passed with and A.
You will have her in any math react class but you also have another teacher that gives you test and group work in class. This class is so annoying! Its not super hard but you have to do a lot of work to get an okay grade. You do the learning and homework online so if you don't know the answer to the homework then you cant get help until next class.
Do not take a react class if you don't have to. These classes are absolutely just terrible. Also she sent out so many emails that were not relevant, blocked. Super annoying. The content of the classes aren't hard but it's so tedious and if you get one bad grade you're done for pretty much the whole semester because there are few, but heavy grades.
Malissa Peery's Math 119 class is a flip class, meaning she teaches through online videos on YouTube. I had an amazing TA that "taught" our class. Although he was not the actual instructor, he is what got me through the class. (cameron cook) The tests are weighted a lot more than homeworks/quizzes. If you do well on those, you will pass.
if you aren't naturally good at math, get ready to have a tough time. it's a flipped class so basically you are supposed to teach yourself by watching videos of Peery (so time consuming) and then you have a TA, all mine did was pass out a worksheet and never talked. I went to all his office hours & studied a ton the whole semester & still got a C+
Mrs. Peery is a great professor. She goes above and beyond to help her students out. If you have any difficulty you can go to her office hours which are very little a week or you can go to the math center for tutoring. I did the flip class and I think it was extremely helpful. It's a lot of work, but it helps you understand the material.
Absolutely awful. She has a REACT course, a flip course. You watch her videos on YouTube then go to class and have a TA help you figure out what you don't understand. Also, half of the stuff we have for homework or in class work, she never goes over in the videos. I feel that I have learned nothing from her. DO NOT TAKE.
Study guides are provided but the tests are full of trick questions. Would not recommend if you need a good grade.
It's a flipped classroom so you will never meet Peery. Her tests can be kinda tricky. Lots of homework! If you do bad on one test you're basically guaranteed a B- or C+. She gives ZERO extra credit opportunities so you have to deal with whatever grade you have. Going to class is mandatory (clicker questions and/or worksheets as a grade).
She is a very good professor. She helps students as much as she can. However, this is a flip class so you will have tons of homework but its easy.
She outlines everything very well on the syllabus so just be prepared because due dates are not changing. However, shes very nice & kind! Makes her class like a home.
Every question I had was not completely answered.
Malissa Peery isn't great or horrible. You could basically tank on one test and not be able to get an A in the class. It's a flipped class which means that you learn the concepts at home. The TA's don't really teach you anything in class, but they are really helpful if you go to office hours. Go to office hours and understand the concepts.
It is all in your TA which is the only person you will see since it is a flip class. I loved his so much I am taking him again. I am pretty good at math, so it wasn't that hard, although what is hard is not getting to use a calculator. I did poorly on one test which is hard to pull up to make an A, but overall is just a lot of homework.
Malissa peery is a great professor with a smoothe teaching process. At the end of her class you will have actually learned! she is willing to help also. Great personality, great spirit
this is a flipped class so it is harder than a usual math class. you only interact with your TA and that was difficult for me because my TA taught us like we should already know what he was saying. lots of webassign homework. watch lectures peery posts on youtube. tests are graded harshly.
Her exams are difficult, she often asks trick questions. Attendance is mandatory and if you skip class it doesn't matter the reason, she will excuse you from the in class work. Studying the review sheets that she gives in class is essential if you want to pass her exams
This was one of my least favorite classes I've taken. It's flipped, so Peery doesn't even interact with the students, really. My roommate tried to email her, and she answered with " don't email me about this." Honestly, even the TAs weren't helpful. If you have a choice, choose someone else.
Overall, the material of this class isn't difficult, but Professor's Peery's policies are less than ideal. There aren't any extra credit or drops in the class. 85% of your grade are your exams. The test's aren't multiple choice. There are no partial credit on quizzes. If you email her, don't expect a nice response. I would take a different prof.
85% of your grade is exams. The in-class quizzes and homeworks are stressed and take up too much time for them to only be 15% of your grade. Overall, it depends on your TA. Mine was AMAZING and so helpful that I'm taking him next semester. However, I know 4 people in the same course with 4 different TA's and all of theirs are unhelpful and rude.
80% of our grade was made up of tests. I never actually saw Prof. Peery once this semester, since this is a flipped course. Videos were pretty straightforward, but she isn't very accessible outside of class. This class wasn't extremely difficult, but prepare to teach yourself most of the material.
I liked the flipped classroom and taking notes at home because I was able to take clear notes and work on examples in class. The only thing though is do your homework and try your best to get 100's on them. She will not give you extra credit at the end of the semester because you have 5 chances on every homework problem for credit. And go to class
Unless you are prepared to basically teach yourself, don't take this class. Its a flip and all lectures, work, notes, are done at home. I never once saw Mrs. Peery, so it all depends on your TA. My TA changed multiple times, and none of them made me feel as if they actually care how I did in the class. Would NOT have taken if I knew it was a flip.
Didnt like her overall
Not very good. This class is flipped and my TA was horrible and did not speak good english.
This class was absolutely terrible! You dont have the professor, just a TA that gives little to no feedback. I dropped and am taking this class as well as any other math class through my community college. Worst school experience ever.
She is the mathematics department head. She has TAs who teach the actual classes, but she records the videos that get watched. She designed the note taking guide that is used. If you watch all the videos, fill out the note taking guide, and attend class, then you should be able to get a good grade. She is a stickler for proper notation.
I did not prefer the flipped classrom approach to a more conventional learning style. The class was fairly easy though.
The most unhelpful professor Ive ever heard of.
Mrs. Meadows is a wonderful professor despite all of her harsh ratings on here. I took her for Math 119 & 125 and she remained an outstanding professor. This is a flipped course so you should know the material before you come to class but its just watching videos and taking her guided notes. Shes very interactive in class and explains well.
Okay professor, this year was hard to adjust to but it was doable. Solid class, easy.
Took this class my freshman year, it was a flipped course which is "scientifically proven to be better" but creates a serious rift between the student and the professor. I tried accessing her and she dismissed my concerns because "she has plenty of other students to deal with", nevertheless an easy course.
Prof. Meadows has been my least favorite professor so far at UT. She does not actually teach the class, but rather GTAs teach the class (nothing against them, they're great). Prof. Meadows does not use Canvas like every other prof. at UT, but rather uploads the lectures to canvas and the work to WebAssign which can be very confusing. Just stay away
She does not explain how to do concepts and does not let the TA's help us with our answers. Very chaotic and unbalanced.
The professor does not attend class. The TA's cannot give clear instruction. Students are set up for failure from the start. Lessons are not taught in class, so students are expected to teach themselves. The material is not very difficult, just poorly taught and managed. I am sorry for any else who has to take this.
This class is literally awful. It is not hard at all but the TA's cannot give clear instruction and doing the work in class can either hurt you or barely help you. I was excused from quizzes because of a school function but was not excused from the worksheets which made no sense. Horribly structured class
Malissa Meadows uses reverse classroom to teach her classes. It is not a very hard class however she doesn't teach herself and has react leaders teach. Half of the time the react leaders just care where you sit and not actually about the work you are doing. In class we are even taught over zoom. Not a hard class but very boring and time consuming.
Most student do have to take this teacher. She teaches most courses. I recommend everyone to focus on your homework, classwork and quizzes. Thats the only way you can pass. Exams are in possible. The TAs wont help you and she is never actually in class. You have to learn everything yourself.
The absolute worst professor, dont expect us to show up to class if you dont even teach it. Put everyones finals in as 0s before the final, made it as if a grade change was going to help us all but then it dropped peoples grades. The absolute most unhelpful teacher I have ever had in my entire life.
The teaching lectures are videos that they post on canvas. One student in my class did the entire Note Guide the first week. Our TA's went through weeks where they would not check over our papers because whoever graded them "might have a different answer." We were instructed to stay in our assigned groups and complete the worksheets, that's all.
This was the hardest math class I have ever taken in my life. The flipped-classroom style of teaching was the biggest mistake that the department made. You essentially teach yourself through YouTube videos and do worksheets that don't match up with the notes. You never see the professor and are taught by TA's who don't know what they are doing.
This professor does not answer students emails and on the rare occasion she does the emails have rude tones. I have never had her actually teach a class, the people who run the class dont know how to help us half the time. Assignments are graded poorly (Im either marked wrong for right answers or right for wrong answers)
This professor does not even teach these classes. She spits out youtube videos and makes us teach ourselves and in class all we do are learning activities with TAs who dont even know what they are doing. The learning activities harshly impact your grade and are always graded wrong.
This class is honestly the worst. I always did all my homework and attended class but the tests completely screwed me over. I was always feeling so lost and behind due to the structure of the class. Get ready to teach yourself EVERYTHING if you take this course.
I took this class and had passed all my high school algebras. First of all the class is flipped and she never shows up and has these tas that teach the class but in reality they are there to make sure you are in the right seat and never answer your questions. I have had multiple email exchanges and all of them have been unprofessional and rude.
Her classes are taught by TAs who try their best to help. I only was put in this class because I didnt submit my act score or take a placement test. You have to go to every class for assignments and quizzes. The material is all review from high school. Most of the learning is on your own using her video lectures and note taking guide.
Besides seeing her on exam days, I never met or had Professor Meadows in my class. However, her TAs (ESPECIALLY Mrs. M) did a great job of explaining the work. The worst part is you switch TAs like everyday so you didnt always get the one you liked. You have homework everyday between class days, it wasnt too hard as long as you took your notes.
Worst experience I have had with any course in my 3 years here at UTK. She doesn't come into classes, she has TA's that come into every class and do practice worksheets. The teaching style is "flipped-classroom" which is an ineffective way of learning. You watch old lectures that were recorded 2 years ago, which shows the lack of effort she gives.
This class was not that horrible, but it was set up in such a dumb way. Her lectures were online, and I only saw her at test time. The actual class was at HSS taught by GTAs. Some of them were nice, but a lot of them just treated me like I was stupid. They aren't much help when you are confused.
You will never meet her but you will hate her. Poorly explained and old lecture videos. The TAs usually have no idea what they are doing and make you feel stupid for asking questions. The math place is no help either. If you don't get assigned a good group you're out of luck. The class is flipped and moves very fast. Avoid her classes if possible!
Took her for 125 and 119. The flipped classroom style is ineffective b/c there's no time to ask the TA's about previous lecture questions, since you have to do the worksheets in class. I hated that we started learning material for the next module before even taking the exam for the last module. Some of the TA's are helpful and kind, a lot aren't.
Malissa Meadows did the videos, and the TAs did the classes. However, it worked SO well for me personally. The videos Meadows did make it super easy to understand what was being taught, and does lots of reviews that honestly look exactly like the test. I would recommend this class to anyone.
Professor meadows is a very very sweet woman. She cares a lot, but she does not teach the class well. I can tell she means well, but most of the time is spent watching her read her notes off of a screen and doing clicker questions.
I'm almost done with Math 119 with professor meadows and after failing it last semester she basically saved me. She's a super lenient grader and doesn't give homework on fridays. She is also very caring always telling the class that she's here for them and wants them to do well.
I failed last semester with a different professor and Meadows helped me so much. I did not fail this time
She's a sweetheart and super understanding. Her students success is really important to her especially as Math119 is pass or fail. Try your best so your grade isn't as affected by the final exam and attend her review sessions for extra credit they'll be super helpful. Attendance is super important she has daily clickers as part of a daily grade!
Professor Meadows is very caring and loves her students but you need to be sure to go to class everyday. She gives you lecture videos outside of class and during class is all review questions so if you need to have someone teach you in person, this may not be the professor for you. Loved her, would take her again.
Best Math teacher ever! She is the sweetest old lady and will help you no matter what. Attendance is not mandatory but you fail if you never attend. Take her if you can!!!
DON'T TAKE
Meadows is an understanding professor who cares about student success. Attend class regularly and use resources like unstuckstudy to prep - her review sessions are super helpful. The material is review, but stay engaged for the best chance at a good grade.
She gives the opportunity for 200+ bonus points. If you do what you need to do outside of class, and Prof. Meadows literally spoon-feeds this to you via the Weekly Course Agenda on the Home page, you will pass no problem. Course content is not difficult. She gives you everything you need to pass, but YOU have to put forth effort as well.
She does not teach very well.
Some people say that the flipped class structure doesn't work for them, but I honestly enjoyed it. The video lectures allowed me to take it at my own pace, and submitting the notes by the deadline gives you 10 bonus points, which is an easy way to get extra credit. She is very helpful during office hours, but attend class and you should be golden.
I honestly really liked her teaching style. She goes over things very thoroughly and makes sure everyone understands it. The downside to the class is that it is a flipped classroom so lots of the work is done outside of class, but it's really not that bad. Her class is very organized, and the classroom environment has a very relaxed feel.
good teacher, she wrote her own notes. Take flipped classroom if you are a person that is okay with doing notes yourself and meeting in class tuesday thursday for practice and review.
Great teacher and so nice. She wants you to succeed and does most of the teaching herself, not the TA. Class is tough if you haven't taken calc before. You need to attend lectures and watch the videos or you'll fall behind. Tests are hard unless you really know the material. Lots of homework and extra credit to help your grade! Take 125 with her!
Absolutely unbearable class! I pay all this money to come here and show up to class everyday just to learn nothing. This entire flipped classroom concept is complete nonsense. I do not want to watch a 12 year old video of someone yapping away and taking guided notes on it. And the TA's she had teach once in a while were an absolute disgrace!! Bad!
Very nice teacher, but her teaching style (Reverse Classroom) makes it so you have to teach everything to yourself throughout the class. TA's were incompetent and rude on many occasions, and any lesson taught by them (there were plenty) was instantly confusing, as they had to be constantly corrected by her. Take a different section.
Takes points off on the most meticulous things for prep work. Not good at explaining what exactly is going on.
She was an amazing professor!! The class itself isn't easy but as long as you go to class and do your prep work you will be okay. I would definitely reccomend going to office hours if you are confused about something because it saved me for exams!
Professor Meadows was a great instructor! Although the class was hard, the videos she provided were very helpful, and she was willing to help! She does offer extra credit if you do the prep work! Class participation is key to success. Definitely go over the old exams she posts! My final was almost the exact same as one of the old exams.
Good professor. Kind of nit picky on notes and won't give you full credit for little mistakes. Lots and lots of notes outside of class. Classwork grades are based off clicker questions and are graded for accuracy. Don't miss class and you'll be okay
