Great teacher. Plenty of help if you ask. Review sessions for students.
He talks a lot! Sometimes he talks about non-subject related which is irritating. He doesn't take any comments or questions, he barely calls anybody who raises their hands in class. BUT...He conducts group reviews, it is very important to attend to those because that's your chance to ask questions. Lots of HW's and extra credits involve.
Great teacher. He gave us weekend review session many times duirnng the semester. I wish he taught the Micro Economics class.
a lot of bouns?review on weekend?
I like his teaching style. He has lots of energy but also can be taken on tangent if you ask current event questions.
He isn't very focused in his lectures, but he is engaging, and if you go to his review sessions, you will learn a lot. I got nearly a 100% on the midterm and final. Acceptable level of work. If you stay behind every day, he will like you. Try to laugh at his jokes.
Good teacher but he is always in a hurry because teaches everywhere. Pay attention in class because he get VERY IRRITATED by students talking while he is lecturing. At other times he lets you discuss things in class. He gives takehome and inclass combo of exams.
Nice teacher with tendency to talk on tangents about current events ke pot legalization and pop culture. Go to review session to get better grades.
To perform good in class you must attend every day. Otherwise, you fall behind fast. International students should go to office hour for clarifacation and re-check. Then you will do good in class.
Only teacher that offer special review sessions on the weekends.
Homework is done on Aplia and there is a take home midterm. The final is in class and quite difficult. I received an A and studied like a maniac before the final exam as his notes are quite useless and the homework done on Aplia does not correspond to his lectures. There are alot of extra credit.
Took his microeconomics course at UC Berkeley through BCC. Plenty of extra credit, several review sessions and take home exams!
Expected a lot cause the rating is good in here. But, his test is very tough(Average C), picky on extra homework and lecture guideline. Keep in mind online hws are absolutely different from actual exams
I must be in the same class as the other student. Completely different experience. I have to say he get agitated at students that talk or disrupt class. He calls out the students immediately. You have to do the work or will get lost really fast. His lectures go further than Aplia textbook. I remember he said that one the first day.
Plenty of review sessions on his own time (five this semester). Aplia is plenty of work and you have to do homework. Don't skip class or you will get lost in a hurry.
Exams are split between on Aplia and written. The midterm was take home and the final is in-class. If you do the homework you will do good. Don't socialize or text in class or he will call you out and embarrass you.
You must pay attnetion in class because half of exams straight out of lecture. The other half is Aplia.
He's the best!
The Best!
Pay attention in class and do the Aplia work and you will do just fine. To get an "A" you will have to work harder because the in-class exam is tough. Go to his review sessions and do all the extra credit.
Pretty tough than I ever expected
Good professor. You do have to complete the homework and study to do well in the course. If you are a slacker and fall behind, the course can really tough by the end. He does give you extra credits and a term paper option if you fall behind.
He's good teacher. Try's to tell jokes (they are repeated in all his classes.) He uses Aplia ebook and online homework.
Great teacher and gives regular review sessions. Go to every class bc you can fall behind quickly. Extra credit for class participation by doing problems on the white board and a presentation.
It was about what the other reviewers say. There is regular online Aplia homework. The lectures go beyond the textbook. You have to read textbook and take notes because he adds a lot of stuff and forces your to read details not covered in from Aplia. There is plenty of extra credit and reviews. Don't use cell phone in class!!!!
Very helpful. Gave review sessions for midterm and final.
i agree with the other students. He gave review sessions and review questions. No surprises on the exam. He told us that the exam questions would be modified versions of the review questions. Aplia is for homework and reading--he got a the class a discount. Great Prof!
Very helpful. We have an extra review session for difficult materials during holiday weekend. Nobody else does that. Caution: He can easily get irritated by students talking or using social media in class .
Two exams. Take home midterm exam and inclass final exam. Weekly homework and readings in Aplia. Be sure to attend "voluntary" study sessions.
DO ONLINE HOMEWORK. The only reason I didn't get an A was because I put off the online homework. I had the 3 hour night class and he was able to keep my attention and keep me awake. He uses a lot of real life examples to explain complicated Economic concepts. Good energy and would take for Micro and Macro.
You have to do the homework and go to class. Don't fall behind. He is laid back and tells jokes and stuff in class. The exams are in two parts: multiple choice and graphing. He gives review sessions that are a important to get good grade.
HW is mandatory but very helpful in letting you practice what you learned from class. Sandhu is a bit hard to like. His humor is borderline racist/sexist/etc. And he likes to put ppl down in class. But I do think he's a great teacher and I've learn A LOT from him this semester compared to my Macro class last semester w/a diff teacher. Would recomme
Best econ teacher. He gives review sessions and extra credit. On the extra credit you have to get directions in class. Homework is electronic (Aplia). Make sure you contact him before buying the book because gave the class a discount link.
He gives study sessions throughout the semester. There is homework online in a website called Aplia. Don't buy the book on Amazon because his syllabus tells how to buy at big discount.
Professor Sandu gives extra study meetings for supply-demand, midterm exam, cost curves and final exam. If you work hard you will do good. Don't fall behind on homework because he only gives one extension per student. One thin that stands out is that he gets annoyed by students on phones in class.
Awesome! He uses ebook for homework and get it at discount if you follow his directions. There were plenty of study sessions that he gave on his own time. If you listen and take notes in class you will do just fine. As the other students said, he get annoyed by people that are chatting or using phones in class.
He is an excellent professor for students wanting to transfer to UC and CSU. He covers material beyond the text (Aplia) so you have to pay attention and take notes. If you are lazy you may have hard with instructor Sandhu. Homework is done in Aplia . The midterm and final are partly online and in-class.
His lectures consisted mostly of tangents, and I found the teaching portion a bit fast paced and unclear. His grading and testing criteria wasn't clear to me so I just prepared and understood as much as I could. He offers review sessions and extra credit, so be sure to attend and get the most out of it so you know what to study.
He is the best! He gave our class many review sessions on his own time. This is something nobody does. He does want you to give a good effort because does tend to favor hard working students. He also does not put up with class disruption. If you cannot pay attention for three hours (he teaches the one day a week classes), you need to adjust.
The class is intense. He teaches half of the material outside of textbook. He does talk fast but covers the material in review sessions. I have to agree with other reviewers that mention his tendency to require students be prepared. Slackers should go find another class. Many of students transfer to Cal and say that were well prepared.
The class is not easy. There is weekly homework and bonus that are for practice. If you do the work you will do good. Sometimes slacker students do complain in class about the work. He gives a take-home midterrm and the final exam is in class.
I am in agreement that Professor gives a lot of homework (problem sets in Aplia). My reason for taking his classes was preparation for UC transfer to Haas. I am in Hass. He has prepared me well over the last year. Professor jokes: "if you cannot do the work we need to show Google so they not have to hire you, but you can still work for AOL".
As International student, I say he talks too fast. But he does give review sessions that's great! The Aplia homework takes time to get used to. By midterm I figured it out and it is easier. Takehome sections of exams helped my grade much. THANK YOU PROFESSOR. See you in fall semester.
He basically only grades 2 midterms which is a take home online and a take home regular exam then again 2 finals a online exam and an exam that is in class. you will have a good amount of practice on aplia. he can be a bit rude if you question him but overall he is really enthusiastic.
Instructor Sandhu is the best!!! As another student said, if you don't come prepared to class he can be impatient. But those students slow down every class and I see it with all of teachers. Even though the exams are partially take home you still have to study and keep up in lecture to get a high grade. Do the work and you will pass.
I've taken Sandhu for both econ 1&2. Sandhu tends to go on a lot of tangents in class which gets in the way of lecture. You'll do most of your learning reading the book and by doing hw. He is bad at answering your questions in class . Not very helpful either. Best advice is to form study groups for the midterms and final.
Sandhu is the best professor if you are a good student and that keeps up on the attendance, homework and readings. If you are a slacker you may have a tough time because he goes fast at times and he excepts effort from students. He does like to go back and repeat. There are two exams (partially take home) and Aplia online homework, Attend class!!
The class is three hours long at Cal-Berkeley so make sure you give yourself extra time. He uses Aplia with a big discount that he gives you in the syllabus. So don't try to buy the book early. I opted to pay the extra $10 for the hard copy that was delivered directly by the publisher. Keep up on homework and GO TO CLASS and you do just fine.
He is very willing to help you if you to his review sessions. Most of the time he is rushing to another college. The homework and book is in Aplia. Make sure you wait until the class meets to a discount on the book. He can be fast and detailed in his lectures so you cannot miss class.
AVOID!!!! DOESNT TEACH GOES ON TANGENTS YOU LEARN MORE ABOUT THE KARDASHIANS.
Teaches with Aplia and heavy on lecture. Do the extra credit, all the homework and take good notes in class.
Great econ teacher. You have to work on homework and go to review sessions. He gets annoyed if you text in class or socialize. You must pay attention in class because exam rely on topic presented in lecture.
The teacher uses an online book and homework system called Aplia. You have to finish your stuff before the deadline and he only gives one extension at the end and almost too late. He is not available outside of of class because he teaches at a bunch of places.
The class was three hours long and met three times a week. The pace is fast and the prof gets annoyed if you are distracted by iPhone Apps. He gave a take midterm and final exam was in the class. Study and you will fine. Don't miss the Aplia due dates because only give one extension at the end of the term.
The only complaint I have is that the class was 3 hours a day 3 times a week.
I've never made a review for a professor on this site before, but Malkiat really made me want to make a review. Albeit he does go on tangents very easily, it does engage quite an interactive conversation on the subject of economics within reason. I love how hilarious he is, and how he's able to keep most of the class engaged in a conversation.
seriously one of the worst econ/bus professors. He goes over slides too quickly and rambles on about useless things not related to the topic. His homework is on Aplia which is a horrendous website. You will literally pull your hair our over the stupid software of an website. I would not recommend this class if you are seriously majoring in econ.
Sandhu never replies to your emails. I've sent him 3 emails in 1 week and none of them were read or replied. He doesn't care for the success of his students and often says "it's not my fault". He also rambles on in class. His midterms are hard and instructions are unclear.
UYou have to keep up with the pace of his class or you will get lost and have a tough time catching up. He use online homework and text. Try to buy a the printed book because from Amazon if you really want to read.
Do the homework and study his lecture notes and you will pass the tests. Go to the review sessions because exam and very similar.
Cengage for ebook. Go to class for instructions.
He is one of the best. If you are lazy then you should stay away because he talks fast, brings in alot of examples and expects you to keep up. Aplia is required and he takes attendance.
There is weekly reading and homework in Aplia. A midterm and final exam are the tests. He takes roll at the end of class.
This class is extremely dense with information, but he tries very hard to engage students throughout his lectures. Attendance is very important, because a significant portion of his tests are based on his lecture notes.
DON'T miss class. He'll go over things once, and it will show up on the midterm/final. This class is not for the fainthearted. Cal students looking for an easier option, don't choose this class. Getting an A is possible, but it's hard work.
I took his class in spring. He gives out just two exam in the semester, first one was take home and the last one was in class but both very hard. some of the questions on the test are things he didn't teach. He also just talks nonsense for the half of the class. There is a lot of homework too. Will never take his class again!
Professor Sandhu is the best Economics teacher in Peralta City College, no one of. I took both of his macroeconomics and microeconomics and received A's. Tips: NEVER be absent, DO ALL Aplia homework and ALL extra credits, SHOW UP midterm and final review sessions where answers come from . He is very understanding and accessible!
He is one of the best "Teachers" if you want to learn economics. You will use an online homework system and he add a lot in lecture. He gave us five review sessions. If you are taking econ for GE, you can pass if you just do the work. If you are going to Cal, this is MUST to prepare you for the next level.
You must attend class and pay attention. He does a alot of talking and there are tangents. Uses Cengage so if you have another course with them, get the Unlimited version package.
Sandhu had midterm and final exam. The was a lot of online homework. For perfect attendance he gave extra points.
he uses Midtap for homework and other assignments. You have to pay attention and take notes because the midterm is based on what he talks about in class.
If you want to learn economics, this is the guy to take. He explains a lot of things beyond the course and tells you what you need at four year level. If you have short attention span, you probably want to go elsewhere. The homework and book at are online at MinTap.
He makes hard topic manageable by giving take home midterm exam and extra review sessions on his own time. His treatment of topic is higher level because most of his student go on to UCB or UCLA. Join his club because they go to Tesla, Facebook and other companies.
I managed to get an A but I would give the overall quality of his class a 3. He can be quite frustrating for others because he goes off-topic quite often. I heard complaints from other students about his way of teaching the class and his behavior, there are some I agree with. You can get an A if you do the hw and ex credits, but just be aware.
He spends more than half his lectures rambling about irrelevant subjects while desperately trying to make his students laugh. As a result, he spends very little time actually teaching his students the material. He can be very nice and he is a good person, but at the same time, he can be inconsiderate towards his students. It's a challenging class.
If you want do the work for this class, it will be worth it. I have to say that passing the class is not hard. The professor gives you a lot of extra credit and a make up term paper if you fail midterm. He also adds plenty of information and tells you will need it at Cal or CSU. Some of the students that like his style are lazy on iPhones?
The lectures are 3 hours long so you better stay focused. The homework is a bit tricky because he uses Cengage. Be careful of the late penalty because it can be confusing, There is take home midterm exam and inclass final exam.
If you follow the guidelne he gives you will do good. Study lecture and homework score high on exams. Go to review session and do all the extra credits.
At first, I was not accustomed to the class because the professor's handwriting wasn't clear, I couldn't understand my notebook from time to time. Later, we changed into online sessions, he still insisted on holding Zoom teaching, which was helpful! I was still worried about my grades, but it was actually graded by lots of things:) He is nice
Worst prof Ive ever had, dont know why he has so many good ratings. Went on random irrelevant tangents during lecture all the time, made insensitive comments during class (mentioned su. cide as a joke 3 times), bragged about having 8 laptops at home. Really messy and disorganized notes that were hard to follow. Abbreviates EVERYTHING. Don't take!
The teacher had Zoom class and he used the whiteboard for the entire time. The ebook is from Cengage so buy the unlimited plan if your other teachers are also assigning Cengage book. There is work in Canvas that must be uploaded by the due dates. Take good notes and you will get good grades.
If you do what he suggests in the class you will do good. There is a lot of homework so try to keep up because the assignments have later penalty.
There is a lot of homework so you must keep up or there are late submission deductions. Be sure to do the extra credit early because there are very few near the end. You have to pay for the etext or it will shutdown.
I was in a group chat with 15+ people in the class and I swear everyone in the gc hated him. He goes off on tangents and uses abbreviations for everything, so looking at the lecture notes aren't helpful. If you're die hard into econ, take the class and just learn the stuff on your own.
Dont take this guy for online learning. He just goes off and talks about other things all the time. Homework isnt even based off his lectures since you have to do all the reading off of cengage anyways and all the homework problems are based off of that reading. Doesnt record lectures so you have to be in class if you WANT to learn from him.
He is the best. But if you are lazy and don't keep up it can be tough. If you are a UC transfer, this is the class to take. If you just looking to get by, it will require work.
The class was on Zoom once a week for 3 hours. He takes a break in the middle . The book is in MindTap and homework is all open from the start with due dates on weekly basis. The tests are both on Canvas and MindTap. Get ready to work and you will pass with no problem. You have to commit more effort for better grades. Take detailed notes at Zooms.
If you follow the Zoom meeting explanations and do the homework you will ace the midterm and final tests. The class was over three hours and can be intense at certain subjects. Don't fall behind because the teacher does not go back to give full explanations if he thinks the good students are getting annoyed?
If you're a Business or Econ major, take his class! Professor Sandhu is so knowledgeable and breaks down tough concepts very well. This man is so intelligent, his lectures are heavy but very enjoyable. Be sure to take really good notes from his lectures because it'll be on the exam.
Great class!!! But you have to attend zoom meetings for the full 3 hours with a 10 minute break in the middle.
I took the Monday morning class. It was a long three hours with only a 10 minute break. But if you listen and take go0d notes you can get an easy A. Don't fall behind on the homework.
Worst Econ professor I've ever had. His lectures are three hours long and the whole time he would just go on his whiteboard and talk about irrelevant stuff. He also talks about a lot of things that doesn't have to do anything with the topic. All the homework are not based on his lectures instead you have to learn on your ow through Cengage.
Homework and exams are online in Canvas and MindTap. You will need to upload files in Canvas. Get you practice in submitting assignments by doing extra credits. If you have short attention span, you may lose the concept when explains the background. Take his class if you want to transfer to UC Berkeley or UCLA.
The class is on Zoom--3 hours each week. Be sure to do the extra credits in Canvas and in Zoom meetings,
If you do what this instructor asks on exams and homework, you will get an A in the class. There is weekly homework and readings. Mid-term and final exam are take home.
The class class was on Zoom and Canvas. There was a homework app called mindtap for the text book and problems sets. The class was super fast because of summer session,
Very understanding, very serious but at the same time very funny. This class will prepare you to think outside the box. Professor Sandhu is the real one, very invested to teach his students in depth. Though lecture heavy, my lecture was slightly under 3 hours.
Lectures are 3 hours long, he's really nice don't get me wrong, but his lectures are nothing like the homeworks. The homeworks are on cengage, you'll need to learn the majority of stuff on your own.. his lectures are meh.
The class was on Zoom for 3 hours a week. Exams and homework are on Canvas and MindTap. He gave us review sessions and plenty of extra credit chances.
Great classes. I have taken both of his classes at BCC.
He gives 3 hr lecture and spends it talking about very irrelevant stuff to economics. But you are expected to teach yourself from the textbook. You are graded by the textbook questions which are hard. The lecture barely prepares you. It was very annoying. Take it with someone else since you're teaching yourself. Also is hard to reach outside class.
Professor Sandhu is a great professor. Yes, he talks a lot, not about the class material. The 3-hour class without the irrelevant talking could be shortened to a 1.5-hour class. He gives an exam and then goes over it on zoom. The exam consists of different parts. If you do multiple-choice questions poorly, you can still have an A for the exam.
There are two exams, weekly homework and video to discuss. He expects students to talk about everyday things in class. Some of the graphs can get detailed so follow his instructions. He gave plenty of extra credit if you need it. He also gave Zoom review meetings to help with exams and assignments.
Good class. We had to do covid test before every class meeting or you cannot get into the building.
Pros: Very chill guy. Cons: 3 hour class with only a 10 minute break needs more breaks. Handwriting is messy. Uses abbreviated terms instead of the full terms. Lectures go fast since he uses most of his time to talk abt random things that are not related to the class.I suggest you not to take this class if you get easily distracted.
Spends a lot of time helping students in Zoom office hours.
Great class. Spends a lot of time on current events and applications of materials. If you don't prepare for class you will quickly fall behind. He uses MindTap and Canvas for homework.
Great class for students that need to learn something beyond the textbook. He spends a lot of time a current events and application of the topics. There is homework online in MindTap and Canvas. Ask for extension if you fall behind.
Great class for traditional students that read the materials and do the homework. He offers extensions and extra credits thoughout the semester. There were field trips to cultural and funs events. About 60 students went to accounting company in SF. He uses cengage and canvas for assignments.
There is homework in mindtap and weekly lecture. The midterm was take home and part of final exam was class with open notes. If you miss class it may be hard to catch up. Instructor gave extensions in the middle of the semester. He offers plenty of extra credit and second chances
Professor Sandhu's lectures can be hit or miss, but the real learning happens through the textbook and online resources like Unstuck study. Put in the work, and you'll get a solid grasp of the material. Overall, a challenging but rewarding class.
Very well recommended by 4 year professors. Two exams and regular homework. He let's you use handwritten notes on the exam. Many weak and racist students may not like that he is a person of color. I have noticed negative comments that border on hate speech.
The content itself isn't hard, but rather, the professor makes the course hard. His lectures are often long, with unclear directions, and he does not stay on topic. While he provides extra credit, I would advise to take this course elsewhere as getting an "A" is difficult as you will be doing a lot of self-studying. Attendance is mandatory.
Great class for students that want to prep for UC and CSU. Do the work and study to succeed. Some comments below appear to be made by intolerant students that resent a professor of color. This is unfortunate is a place like Berkeley.
I have never met anyone who could talk for three hours straight about cars, politics, Startups, and festivals. But if you enjoy that, I highly recommend Professor Sandhu. He's really fast at responding to emails and really easy to talk to. I easily got an A. But watch out he's a yapper and you probably won't learn much.
If you're completely new to econ, I wouldn't recommend taking his class first, finishing up micro econ first will make it much easier to follow! If you're the type to have trouble focusing in class, he might be a bit difficult to follow during lectures. But he cares about his students, and provides lots of extra credit!
Uses Mankiw MindTap ebook. Plenty of extra credit. The class is fast paced and cover rigorous topics, If you are lazy, go elsewhere. He gives many examples from other fields. Some students are too lazy to keep up in a class that actually teaches economics .
This is a great class. He covers lots of topics and you have pay attention. Very welling to give extensions.
The class is 3 hours once a week. Homework is on MindTap. If you fall behind, the instructor is very lenient with extensions and extra time in you ask. The exams do assume you attended class. He allows handwritten notes on the exams.
Summer class is going good. He holds a Zoom tutoring session on different topic every week.
Professor Sandhu is a cool guy, I took the summer course so it was definitely a lot of work, but manageable. Only 2 exams being the midterm and final and each are 150 questions so be free to sit down for a while. Only complaint I have is he takes a long ass time to grade stuff but hes lenient grader so its chill.
The online summer class was in Canvas and MindTap. Do assignments on time and you can pass class. If you fall behind it is hard to catch up in six weeks.
He does talk a lot, but material is easy to learn!
The class is focused for student that want major in econ at UCs and upper level universities. Some not going further in econ/business may want to consider time and effort commitment.
He lets you use you class notes for exams.
