Malvin is an amazing professor with outstanding sense of humor. All his lectures were very interactive and easy to understand. Overall experience: 10 out of 10
At first I was confused, and then he helped me to understand. I like this class and I will continue to attend.
Best class in my 5th semester.
awesome teacher, awesome person overall. Pleasure taking his class.
gives you all the opportunities you need in order to pass, very helpful with explaining the material
I enjoyed this class very much, it was fun and the learning experience was above average.
Good guy, willing to help you don't understand the first time.
He took interest in student success.
He is an awesome lecturer. It is worth it to go to class prepared and he posts great notes so pay attention; participate in-class and get the study notes later.
He is adorable. His teaching style is also fun, and he makes us think critically about the financial sector as we are learning the concepts in class by relating it to actually industry trends and financial news. I most definitely would take his class in advanced financial management again!!
I love him. Greatest prof ever.
He has great knowledge about subject
Awesome professor! Always made class interesting and related topics to real life experiences.
he i?s a nice and kind teacher.
amazing professor???
Great professor. Laid back but very interested in the subject. Very helpful when students need help.
awesome lecturer???
Very clear when presenting material in lectures. Uses a verity of methods ie group work and is willing to help and answer and questions related to the subjects
Great teacher, genuinely concerned about the well being of students. Funny and approachable, always willing to help. He always gives real life examples so the material makes sense and is clear. He also provides excellent notes. It's impossible to fail any of his classes.
hands down one of the best teachers i've ever had
Amazing teacher, With his approach to teaching the class never gets boring, on top of that he goes out of his way to make sure students receive all the help they need and understand the course material.
Great teacher, good insight and application of course material to real world problems
He is a great teacher with deep expertise as well as real life experiences. Very helpful and interested in his students success. I would like to have him on my advanced financial accounting
Awesome teacher with a lot of experience.
Good course
one word... Excellent
He is a nice and helpful professor.
A great professor who is very interesting to listen too. It would be great to have Mal as a professor again in the future.
Great Teacher, interesting lectures, makes it easy to understand
Great prof enjoyed his lectures , very nice guy makes you wanna learn in his class
Mal is the MAN! The best teacher/professor I have ever had in my life. He is laid back and is very knowledgable about Finance and business in general. #gunsandroses
Excellent Teacher!!!!!
I like the way he teach, but I would love to recommend he could provide more practise exercise in class.
Professor Spooner is a gracious teacher. He keeps it gangster in class. Down to earth wise.
Best prof at humber no doubt!
I found Melvin very interesting. His knowledge was impressive. I really enjoyed his class; wish I had done better.
He is a very polite teacher, who helps students succeed in his classes. He uses lots of industry examples, and makes class interesting to attend.
Amazing teacher, not too easy but cares about his students and wants them to do great in his class. Great for answering questions and emails. Best teacher at Humber!!!
Loved this guy and his sense of humour!
A great teacher with plenty of humor!
Easy to follow along his lectures along with the textbook. Even if you don't have the textbook, his notes are very thorough (if not funny sometimes). Enjoyed his class :)
goood teacher
Good teacher, rarely used textbook, easy marker, assignments and tests super simple and easy to understand.
Great teacher!
Very nice professor
Great prof, made a boring class interesting.
He is funny, with fun lectures
Malvin is a great professor! Always willing to help students in the best way he can. Very out-going and laid back even outside of class.
Great prof, made ethics class interesting.
amazing
Overall a great prof, teaches the material in a very clear manner and also ensures that every student knows what is going on,even if that means going over basic math skills. And he's pretty funny too! Probably one of my favourite profs this semester!
Great teacher! really tries to connect with the students and add as much personality and life into micro as one could. Although i found the topic dry i always attended class as his lectures were very helpful and well thought out.
Excellent professor! He seems very lighthearted and genuinely seems to care about his students. He makes his material fun and easy to understand. He uses examples a lot for his lectures, which makes understanding the material even easier. If you attend his lectures and put in some effort, you're bound to do good.
He is such an interesting and funny professor. He is very passionate about economics which makes learning in his class so much easier.
Malvin's a great professor, lot's of industry knowledge and real wolrd experience.
My main issue with the course is that is dwells too much on short terms issues which are less relevant to long term investment plans. Not a complaint about the prof reaaly.
An excellent professor. But this subject includes a really vast area and it is new for me, so i find it little difficult as compared to other courses.
Excellent lectures, tremendous amount of knowledge and experience, very approachable.
An inspiring, hilarious and lively professor
I REALLY LIKE THE PROFESSOR HIS TEACHING, HE IS VERY ENTERTAINING AND KNOWS THE SUBJECT
Mal is a pretty cool dude, i think you should be a soccer announcer rather than a finance teacher ;)
He is a very nice and kind prof. Always laughing and very easy to talk to. He is a quite easy prof and you can do well if you pay attention and practice questions in the back of each chapter. However, his assignments are quite difficult and you can be confused because clear instructions on how to go about doing them are not always given.
Sometimes he goes a little fast, so it's best to pay attention. The course is mostly interesting, although there are some boring chapters, but that's normal. Overall, he is a good teacher and definitely not monotone - keeps the atmosphere light.
I have always struggled when it came to finance class, this prof understands that the course is difficult and assists you. He came on his day off to help students with a difficult assignment. Also offers to help with calculator issues !! He may get confused sometimes on the board but he knows his stuff. Work hard for the grade :)
An amazing professor with industry knowledge that inspires and educates phenomenally
Hilarious videos to go with the material learnt in the slides
Would be great if instructor can give more practical questions in the class. college should arrange more teaching hours for this curriculum.
Pretty great teacher, was a very informative class and the material strengthened my learning throughout all my other classes. Overall well paced and very interesting course.
Malvin is a great professor, and I particularly appreciated his approach to teaching and learning in general. He is accessible to his students, and tries to help us understand the subject in a real-world way. He is clearly knowledgeable in his field, though not intimidating. You have to attend his classeswhich are quite entertaining :)
I LIKE THIS PROFESSOR. I REALLY RECOMMEND TAKE A CLASS WITH HIM. HE ALSO TRY TO KEEP THE CLASS USEFUL AND INTERESTING. HE REALLY KNOWS ABOUT FINANCIAL AND HAVE A LOT OF EXPERIENCE. ABOUT THE EXAM I CAN SAY THAT HE TRYS TO GIVE US THREE DIFFERENT LEVEL OF QUESTION WHICH EASY, MIDDLE AND HARD
Supportive and understanding. Reacts to the situation and helps students.
Great teacher, takes the time to help students. Makes jokes and makes finance interesting in class. Probably the most humble and down to earth teacher at Humber and was a pleasure being in his class. Would highly recommend.
I loved him through out because his vast knowledge and ready to answer anything you ask him including other than course. Great Guy !
He is a good professor, knows what he is teaching but you have to attend all of the classes. But overall I would recommend him
Malvin is a great professor but I strongly encourage reading chapters before classes as it will help you understand more about the topics. If you're not sure about things take 5 minutes after class and ask him. He's willing to help and its a good way for him to know who you are. This class is the difference between future broke or rich you.
Malvin is the best. You just have to be open-minded to understand his jokes. Try to take advantage of his knowledge and ask everything if it is not clear! Best Advice: Read the chapter before class otherwise you'll be lost. Overall this was an amazing and interesting class!
Malvin is a very knowledgeable professor - you can learn lots of interesting things about finance from him. He structures class time really well, however, reading the chapter prior to his lecture is vital. Take notes, follow his explanations on big problems, do extra homework yourself and you will pass the course.
Spooner has a lot of experience which, shows during the lectures. He gives great examples which help relate the topics covered in class. I think going to class is a must as everything that comes in the exam is from the lecture (ppt). Overall, he is one the best professors i have had
He is a fine professor but needs to do more in class quizes rather than just assignments.
Funny guy, makes it a class worth going. He gets straight to the point with his lectures but will answer questions if you're confused. drops a lot of hints which is greatly appreciated. tough exams though, more theory then calculations which is a little different then expected.
his exams are all multiple choice very easy ! but you have to read and understand the material in order to understand what is happening in the class
The perfect word to describe this professor is: DYNAMIC. This individual is so in tune with the students it's amazing. He's not only a great professor, he's a great person. He will make you think critically about life as well as the courses he teaches. Never skip his class.
Has a great sense of humor and obviously enjoys doing what he does. He's had a lot of experience in the field which he relates back to the course material. Would definitely recommend and would take again if possible.
Mal is an amazing professor! If you have a chance you MUST take his class. He has lots of experience in the field, and his lectures are not just from the textbook, but he constantly gives example either from his career or the ones that are happening now. He is always ready to help you. I hope I will have a chance to have him as professor once again
Was an average Finance class to me. No concerning issues. Would take again.
He's a pretty good teacher.
great professor loved his class
Mr. Spooner was an excellent professor. Very positive and encouraging. I definitely learned skills and knowledge that I will be using in my career.
Prof Malvin Spooner is an excellent professor. He makes the things easy in the class.
Very wise and down to earth, excellent teacher
Malvin Spooner is a great prof. He balances the work well and is a great lecturer. Good sense of humour and understanding.
This prof is pretty cool! He delivers a great lecture and pushes for participation to keep students engaged. Malvin is helpful and understanding, he will help you no matter what your circumstance Took his class in the summer and he didn't make it a drag like other instructors. Would recommend!!
Fair marker, do the work and get rewarded for the effort.
Really good teacher take him
He is very easy. doesnt like much detail but he need main important stuff for this course. And he is always smiling :)
Great Teacher, he is very understanding and provides a pace of the course that is suitable. Also very generous, and does not look for pages of written information on assignments which makes assignments easier and less troublesome to complete.
One of the better teachers at Humber if you need help don't be afraid to ask him.
He is a nice person who wants to help at any time.
He is one of the best professors at Humber so far. I have have experienced different learning experience and I could tell you if you get a chance to take him, by all means go for it. He is understanding, teachs great and very fair in marking. One thing to be aware of his tests are hard, but that being said you are able to do very well in this class
He is a good teacher. Make sure to be in class to benefit from extra marks. Overall a good experience.
Not clear about his assignments. However, he helps a lot. One of the smartest guys I have met
Excellent Prof!!
Has interesting and funny lectures, reminds you of a tipsy uncle at Thanksgiving. Is reasonable with marks and has only multiple choice exams.
he's a good teacher .. Boosted My gpa
good attitude. great guy
Good overall experience, gives real world advice
Awesome prof! Uses humor in school to teach but you actually learn from him.. would definitely recommend
Great professor, fair grader. Make sure to read the book, attend the lectures, and put effort in the assignments. Cracks good jokes and keeps the class entertaining.
Class were great... Professor was very helpful
His classes and lectures lack clarity, in which he delves into long discussions real life examples that are not relevant nor are they helpful to the class. Given that corporate finance is a numbers class, handing out or giving questions/examples to work on would be helpful. His assignment lacked clarity and thus the class failed.
Very good prof, although the lectures are long and somewhat dry he brings an eagerness to class and makes you want to learn. His tests arent too tough but his assignments are quite difficult. Would take him again however
I've had Prof. Spooner previously for an economics course & was thoroughly excited to see I have him again for corporate finance. He's one of the best professors I've had the opportunity to learn from. He provides real life examples of topics being discussed in class, while keeping the class engaged and entertaining. Do your work, & you'll pass.
He doesn't read off the screen and actually talks to the students. Gives real life examples and can easily answer any of your questions. Cracks a funny here and there... Just a jolly guy. Definitely didn't mind going to this class at all, and they never go the full length.
What's to say other then a great teacher. You can really tell he has extensive knowledge of finance. You're not technically "guided" in this course like you are in your 1st year courses but that's to be expected since it is 3rd year after all. Exams are easy if you do some preparing. At the end of the day, be glad you got this man as your prof.
Prof is funny and wants to help you and not leave your stranded and wondering what you are doing.
Best prof! so helpful, kind, willing to help always.
Amazing prof! You won't regret taking his class!
Amazing teacher
He doesn't give too much work. His lectures are brief and on-point and let's you leave early. Great pacing and you don't have to worry too much about stuff and assignments cause he will give you enough time to finish them. Great course and great prof if you need a breather. 9/10 would take again.
The material is pretty dry, but he tries to keep you interested. Doing the assignments will defiantly help you pass the course.
I had seen best and worst professors at humber and he is not surprisingly comes under one of the best. Humber please hire more profs like him because it significantly adds value to our learning experience. On few occasions I felt like more explanation is needed on some of the complex topics but since its senior year class, we have to read more.
Malvin is a great professor, his lectures are always outgoing and funny. He relates topics within the course to real world situations or from his past employment experience. Also a very fair marker and explains his marking schemes clearly, there are no tricks on his assignments or exams. One of the best professors at Humber!
He helps those who attend class
AMAZING! AMAZING! AMAZING! One of the best profs at Humber after Jeff. So relaxed and positive. Would definitely recommend Mal.
He's quick with responding back and willing to help anytime. He also genuinely wants to see his students succeed in finance!
his class was pretty easy, I showed up to every class, didnt pay that much attention but got away with an A. Pretty funny guy as well
He is a good professor. He help me a lot
Class was tough to begin with (not great background in math). Wish he would use more examples in class so we could better understand. But still a really nice teacher... always has time for questions after class.
pretty funny guy and has a lot of industry experience but pace was hard to follow sometimes. Tests were quite easy but concept very based
Prof began class by saying we'd be doing a lot of math, which had me excited as it's always been my strength. I did well on assignments, read textbook, and did online practice, but lectures lacked clarity. Wish he did more problems in class, step by step, instead of just showing us a completed example from the textbook. Didn't meet my expectations.
Malvin is an awesome guy if you show you are willing to learn he is willing to help you figure things out and takes the time with you to learn things but you have to ask. Lectures are simple and to the point but reading the text is a must for his tests, assignments are simple and easy if you understand it they have a good format to follow.
I highly recommend Malvin. His tests and assignments are very straightforward with no tricks. Class can get dry sometimes because he's teaching straight out of the powerpoints/textbook but that's just the way Financial Mgmt is going to be taught. He is easy to reach out to for help, has industry experience, & tries to make class enjoyable.
the best ever
Malvin Spooner was one of the most helpful professor I've had. If you want to pass the course, make sure that you do reading before the class and do all the assignments. His way of teaching helped me to critically think about finance. He concentrates on the theory and makes it possible for student with poor math background to pass the course.
He's an awesome teacher, clear on the notes and really easy to talk to when you have questions for him. Also the tests are pretty neatly prepared. Easy marker!
I really like how he connected the class reading material with real world which makes it more interesting to study. One of the class i really liked attending.
best proof:)
One of the best Prof's
Really helpful and approachable. Dont take his kindness as weakness you need to attend class if you do you will have the knowledge and experience he does in class to be successful in the course. Would for sure choose this proff again!
Best Prof to have. He is very helpful and he encourage you to do the best you can. He is very kind and Attending his class is the path to get an outstanding mark in his class. Would love to have this prof again.
He is an awesome professor. He care about his students and encourage them to do the best. This is a though course so skipping class is a very bad idea. Interaction and attendance are very important . This prof will make you love his class and be there for it. Will take him again if i could.
He teaches in detail and explains pretty well
The course is hard, not him; he's a good and fair prof, if you don't go to class and keep up with the work it's not his fault.
Tbh, I barely went to class, nevertheless, I ended up with a good grade. Textbook was not needed as he posted required material online. He is very respectful to students and I enjoyed his case studies, assignments, and tests. Easy going prof. I would definitely recommend him
Malvin is an amazing prof. He's very knowledge about the material and gives great examples. He's a fair marker and definitely wants his students to succeed. He provides all the necessary material online and the textbook isn't needed. He's funny and probably one of the nicest professors I've had. Attending his class bonus marks.
Malvin exudes the kind of masculine appeal you only see in movies. When he begins the lecture you just want to take off your clothes and bask in the glory of finance!
He's a great prof.. go to class and enjoy the lectures
Best Teacher At humber College , but you have to attend class and you have to have the book .
Mal is very easy going, I have had him for 2 years. This does not mean you don't have to do your studying or work.. that still has to be done. But he is easy to listen to in lecture, does not waste your time. I would choose him as my prof 9/10 times if I had the chance.
BEST PROF AT HUMBER! Enjoyable lectures that are short and concise, very caring about students, and very fair grader. Would love to have him teach any other course any time. Better than most profs at Humber.
Professor Spooner came prepared to every class, and made the lectures not only interesting, but also provided useful information. What I learned from the professor will help me with any future position I have in a company, as his advice was always sound.
Malvin Spooner is a great professor and really helped me understand the subject . Yes , his subject is extremely tough but it gets thougher .
Good teaching but little heavy lectures.
Very good professor
Passionate about teaching
Love his lectures
Professor was good. Specially his direct questions. His portfolio is one of the most inspiring amongst all. Good knowledge. Lack in little bit of class participation and making atmosphere more informal so that students could know each other better and learn course in a better way.
Professor Malvin is very experienced in his field (finance) and is a great professor too. He made the material more interesting with videos and provided good study material and lectures. He expects you to do your part of studying before class, which is a fair expectation. His tests are fair too, not easy but not killer. Do your part & do well!
Professor Spooner is an excellent teacher. He keeps class interesting and concise. He is realistic and understanding of your needs. If you show up to class and pay attention/do all the assignments(some of his exam questions are taken from in class discussions -so be there!) you will get a good grade. Would definitely recommend him as a professor!
Awesome person
An absolute legend. Disappointed we only had him one semester. He actually knows about, and has real life experience in the field that he teaches. If he gets into his real world stories from his life/experience it's the most interesting thing you will hear all day. Pay attention in class and study the material he gives you - not easy, but doable
Unfair tests, unhelpful, rude, condescending, inappropriate. Called his students entitled during his class.
laughed at the class and called them lazy. tested unfairly and was extremely unprofessional when dealing with confrontation
Very unprofessional professor, treats adult students like primary children. disrespectful, controlling, and self centered. Avoid this prof at all costs. If you do have to take his course keep in mind his ego drives his actions and he takes everything personally.
Unprofessional and highly disrespectful professor. Administers unfair tests. Would not take his class again and highly recommend against it.
Belittles students and makes them feel as though they are dumb. He does not support students at all.
Rude, rushes through material, clearly does not care about students learning and emotionally volatile. can not reccomend...
Great man who genuinely cares about students. He makes lectures feel less stressful by being light hearted and positive, yet still provides a lot of detail and information. Accepting of questions and open to helping out when you need it. Overall he's very smart and very friendly, I have no complaints.
Really great professor. His attitude towards students was very supportive and humorous. I actually like that he gives the results of the examinations back asap. The assignments were easy to understand. Although the course content felt heavy, it was nice that he made a couple jokes to lighten the mood. I would take this prof again if I had to!
The best hands down
I just finished the course this semester and everything was very straightforward, of you spend about an extra hour learning the materials before or after the lecture it all makes sense. Overall difficulty of the course was good, not to hard and you have anough chances to make up your mark.
There's no doubt he knows his material and has experience in this field, but my biggest issue with him was his attitude. He's very condescending and treats his students like idiots, laughs at them when they try to answer questions and overall acsts like he doesn't take this seriously. I felt very uncomfortable in his class.
He cares about the student's learning and ensures each student has the opportunity to pass. I would take this prof again because he understands the struggle of student life and gives us the tools needed to pass the course
He is the most easy going prof I've ever had. He makes tests easy, understandable and gives students many opportunities to do well. He understands that students are stressed and doesn't want to overwhelm us. I worried so much going into this course because I'm so bad at math but in the end I felt the least stress attending this class. 10/10.
Excellent professor! Clearly explains the material and provides tips to better prepare yourself for exams.
He is the best prof you'II have.
The class was kind of hard especially for non accounting or finance students but over all it was okay, attending classes and listening would make things much easier, maybe more in class or outside of class exercises would have helped more. Assignments were good to do since they bring up your mark.
You have to pull your own weight in this class, but that's expected -- you're in college get your life together. In class explanations really help when you're lost, so attending class is a must. Funny, clear and good marker. Would defs take this professor again.
Very solid professor. He's 100% clear of what he expects of you and doesn't have a hidden criteria for assignments and exams. For sure recommend him as a professor.
Malvin is an excellent professor who provides his students with opportunities to pass and do well. I would absolutely recommend him to any student interested in learning, laughing, and wants to know more about finance. Course code was FIN 2500 - I was not able select it from the list.
My least favourite prof I've had, yet. He did not teach the material to us, he just presented us with slides and expected us to understand what they meant. He laughed when students failed the exam and told them they had to drop the course (lies). He does not even have office hours nor does he provide help when asked. Tests are extremely difficult
He's honestly a really good professor, the material although, is hard to learn if you don't try to learn it. Assignments that were given in this class were fairly easy and reasonable in terms of the material taught. I found the midterm and final exam to be fair and easy as well. Don't underestimate the class, take it seriously and you'll do well.
The course was hard enough, even though the chance of getting 90% and higher was real. Unhappy I did not write his final as good as I could, but Malvin did everything possible to help us understand the material and get the better grade. Would love to take another course with him.
Worst prof I've had yet. Laughs at students, does not have office hours, belittles students. You can only be successful if you get the test bank. Lied to students telling them they had to drop the class when they didn't. Doesn't explain his slides, just points to the numbers on the slides.
Prof was fantastic. He did nothing but teach students well and made everything very clear and straight forward. I don't understand how anyone did bad in this class. Exams & assignments were very easy and straight forward. He provided us all the tools necessary to pass. Unlike other profs he actually made things simple. Your own fault if you failed.
After failing two FIN 2500 (and very depressed about that lol), I managed to find myself in Mr. Spooners class. Over all I passed !! His class was RIGHT for ME! Wish I knew about it the very first time I had to sign up. Awesome teacher, very straight forward and I love his teaching style.
Thoroughly enjoyed this course; not only the content but the learning outcomes. Professor Spooner has an incredible method of teaching and his lectures were very engaging. Initially, I did not think Financial Management could be engaging, but Mal made it work. His professional experience built the foundation for a comprehensive learning experience.
great prof and a very caring person. If you do your homework and attend class you will do well. The content does not come easy you need to work for it and Malvin will help you with any questions you have. His assignments aren't difficult as long as you attend class since they are based on class content. Would definitely recommend :)
Very understanding professor. He was very helpful when it came to exam review- definitely would recommend !
Very, very bad professor. Impossible tests, no desire to see students succeed. Truly shocked that he is teaching.
I really enjoyed having Malvin as a teacher. He is very understanding and genuinely wants students to succeed. His assignments are not too difficult if you have read and understand course material. He is always smiling and you can tell he really enjoys teaching.
Prof. Spooner was an excellent professor. I learned quite a lot in his class regarding Financial Management, and I also did quite well. As long as you actually put time into studying and give yourself time to do the projects, you will pass with a high grade.
The professor is very nice and helpful. He provides excellent feedback & makes it Clearly known from the beginning how the course will go, & how things will be marked. His tests are fair, he gives you all the tools to excel. I can't say it here but he has a special way of doing tests in a good way! Only pet peeve-Please give slides, not PDFs
Amazing prof, hands down my favourite this semester. Hilarious, engaging, although the concepts are hard he ensures that you understand. If you work hard and actually study your sure to great in his course.
Prof. Spooner is an excellent and amazing professor. He provides excellent feedback and very helpful. As long as you actually put time into studying and give yourself time to do the projects, you will pass with a high grade.
All though i found Pensions and Benefits not all that interesting, i found that with Mr. Spooner i wanted to learn. He made the classes engaging and as interesting as he could with the material, he has a sense of humor which i particularly like:) Thanks Prof. your amazing!!
Professor Spooner is a really kind person, with a passion for sharing his knowledge and experiences. He is very friendly and was always willing to help. He put a lot of effort into making very dry material fun. I learned a lot from his class. He is very respectable and takes the time to get to know you. A rare Professor with a wealth of wisdom.
Don't believe any of the negative comments about Malvin that you might've read... he's an absolutely great professor! His lectures get a little boring sometimes but he makes up for this by setting a good pace for students to complete their coursework. He really cares about his students and if you have the chance to take him as a prof, you should!
Great teacher! It was a pleasure being in his class. He really does what he can to make sure you understand the material and get the marks. He's also great person as he shows genuine care and compassions towards his students.
He was a great professor. Gave great feed back about assignments and everything is very clear as to how he'll be grading you. There is a bit of work with the class but he gives clear instructions.
Great and caring teacher.
Malvin is a great Prof. He brings along a lot of experience and applies a lot of industry examples in class. He is fairly relaxed and genuinely cares about student success. Would take him again anytime!
I loved this professor. It was evident that he had a lot of experience and really knew what he was talking about and yet I still found his lectures to be easy to follow (and I am not good with numbers). Spooner was really engaging and made his lectures truly interesting... seriously-- a lecture about numbers. I may even take another Finance class.
