Stories makes you think, it's all discussion. It's not fun if you don't read, you can't talk in groups. At first I didn't like but that's because I didn't know what people were talking about. Then I started reading, and it was awesome. Just read, you'll be good. Don't write your research paper last minute and definately submit works cited and annot

It was my first online class so I was a little lost at first. But once I got the hang of it,it wasn't that bad. Make sure you read and start your papers EARLY.

She was a great teacher. I loved her class. Her looks are a little distracting lol. She's cute. She makes the class fun and interesting. The end did get a little off track as stated before, but not too bad. I would take her again if needed.

Fantastic teacher! She is very helpful and relates well to students. With minimal effort and a slight working knowledge of the English language, you will have no problem passing. Plenty of extra credit.

professor mahaffey is a young, good looking woman who just loves the subject of english. she is really cool, laid back, and wants everyone in the class to finish with an A, and she makes it easily possible. her freshman comp class is mostly 4 core papers and a final (another essay) there is plenty of extra credit available. Mahaffey is an amazing professor, her physical appearance should be no absolute reason to attend her class. Her enthusiasm and interest in her students is what makes her class worth taking. If you want an enjoyable experience for what most would consider a boring subject, take her class.

Honestly she's one of the greatest professors you'll ever have. Easy, just go to class, do your essays and you'll be okay. Follow the Guidelines and you will get an A.

Very cool atmosphere and professor is really down to earth. She makes all four papers very clear. Connects the real world with the assignments. Four papers and final is an in class essay. She will make you enjoy English; tried to take her class for Comp 2 but her classes were filled within a matter of days. (Hint:that means her class is that good)

She is the best professor I ever had. Her way of teaching makes you want to to learn. I'm not a writer but she taught me how to be one. Her grading is different then other teachers. You only have 4 papers (each 1000 words) and the final. NO TEST OR QUIZS!!! we have a lot of fun in that class. Trust me! Get This Teacher!!!!

This class was super chill and her use of social media makes the class fun and entertaining. We watched the Office, Community, and other shows to get certain points across. Mandy is super helpful and she is always there if you need something. Very cool and down to earth professor. 4 essays plus a final paper, but in all it isn't bad.

Mandy is the first teacher I had since 5th grade that cares about students. She is fair, and gives your final grade based off effort you put into papers, the rubrics, and whether you talk in class. Ok so her online class is not hard just keep up. She is not there to remind you of due dates. Basically use the book for poems but you can use internet as well. She doesn't give busy work gets straight to the point. Don't hesitate take her .

Mandy is very different to other professors I have known. If you want to a professor who teach you how to write your essays, she won't be that one. Instead she teach you how to think, brainstorming the ideas for your papers by showing and analyzing TV shows, music videos, or articles on magazines. She's really outgoing and chill, she doesn't give homework and only gives 3 essays. Only thing is when giving essay make sure it is done and turned in on time. Follow the rubric. She's understandable when something is going wrong and bares with you. Participation is a big part of your grade. go to class, talk, due your essays and you'll pass.

Seriously, Best class ever. You have like 8-10 assignments all semester and they are pre-scheduled out. the best part is that I was really close to an A and I asked about any extra credit. Let's just say she gave me the A. She responds back to emails within like 30 minutes. It's unreal! You won't have trouble with her at all!

I really enjoyed this class. The assignments were interested and not too tedious. The subject matter was thought-provoking and worthwhile. It is an English class so there is a lot of reading and writing.

This class was one of the best online classes. The way she breaks her assignments up is by units and she gives you a time period to have each unit done by, and its a reasonable amount of time. I would definitely recommend this class, it was interesting and the assignments made me think out of the box.

Basically one assignment is due each month and it's crystal clear from the beginning in her syllabus. You don't need the textbook if you are internet savvy. Take her!

She doesn't give a lot of assignments. For me this was a good thing. But keep in mind that if you miss one assignment, you will most likely fail. You literally need to make sure that you complete all of them. She doesn't give a lot of feedback, except maybe on one assignment. And sometimes she is hard to get a hold of. From the beginning, for her online class, you are told what is due and when it is due. STILL you have students doing mediocre crap and some not submitting anything at all. You were required to read 3 other submissions for each assignment and give a 250 word critique. Even then some people didn't follow directions. Some were LESS than 250 words.

This is my second time having Professor Mahaffey (once in class and once online) and I love her. Deadlines were a month from when it was given if not more. You could finish the course in a week if you truly wanted to. Gives feedback with all assignments, extra credit, and I loved this class. (Take her in class she's really fun)

All the assignments and grading criteria was clearly spelled out in her syllabus and you had ample time to complete each assignment. She is there for her students and willing to meet with you if need help or clarification. Would definitely take her again.

If you are late, don't bother coming! Super laid back, except for those two cases! She will help you in any way possible and make sure you don't fail if you're willing to put in work!

I LOVE HER! A lot people say she is tough grading wise, but you honestly just have to put effort into your papers. I have received a 92 on my first two so far. If you don't get good essay grades, she gives a TON of EC (up to about 20 points!). It's impossible to fail her class, and she's really nice as well. Def take her class!

Absolutely loved Professor Mahaffey's course she really is the best english teacher at Valencia. I loved it so much I'm taking ENC1102 next semester with her. NO HOMEWORK!! In her online class she does not have hard deadlines so you can turn in the assignments whenever. I was really stressed out about turning in my essays because I heard she was a hard grader. Great teacher, although she's a tough grader she shows you papers that earned D's and papers that earned A's so you knew exactly what to write and what not to write. She's a very sweet professor and if you need help she's not as responsive through email but in class she'll explain what you don't understand until you do understand it.

She gave lengthy paperwork, but she gave plenty of time for each essay. If you love to write, she is the one for you. You will absolutely pass the course as long as long as you give effort and just be careful with your paper. Spell check is must with her class. She gives plenty of extra credit.

This is my second time taking this Professor and she is great. You need to make sure you are self motivated because she does not tell you when to do your homework, only what she expects. All her criteria and what she looks for (her syllabus), is straight to the point. You have 4 essays/4 discussions post/and 1 project/2nd is optional. GOOD-LUCK3!!

She assigns long essays but plenty of time to do them. Her grading criteria is very straightforward and if you don't understand anything she will happily explain and is very easy to talk to. Her film classes is different from what you would typically expect and makes you think more about the material.

Although the class and the professor would seem tough at first, the class will get a a lot easier as it goes. Only have to write 3 papers in the entire class and she gives you about 3 weeks to do each. Do not miss the peer review days or not turn in any specific papers like reflection and rubric with each paper. Easy class if you follow the rules.

This class was fantastic. I learned so much; not only about the class, but also about myself. I was able to easily write 11-12 pages papers I this class. The professor always provides feedback for the written assignment. I personally, love that she gives feedback because that helps me to improve my writing.

I took her for Freshman Composition this semester and she was my favorite professor. She really cares about what she does and assigns 3 papers the entire semester. Her class was always a fun and open environment. No tests except the final, and no textbook needed, but expect hard well-thought out papers to write.

Her grading is a little bit strict, only 3 papers a semester which are not hard. Writing every class. Overall she is very nice, smart, intelligent and funny. You will have fun in the class but when it comes to grading not really :)

Professor Mahaffey is an excellent teacher I love the way she teaches, she gets her students to want to talk about a subject that you maybe thought you'd never talk about, however no late work is acceptable not even if you're one minute late which is ridiculous.

I took Intro to Lit online and LOVED it ! I thought it would be hard since it's LITERATURE and it was a flex class, but it wasn't hard at all. She is super helpful and fast with responding to you, which is a plus! She's very clear on what it is she wants you to do. I passed with an A !! Would recommend taking! You won't regret it !

She's a great teacher, she likes to push her students to think deeper about the things we read. Class discussions are awesome. She curses sometimes, for those who might be uncomfortable with it. But the midterm and the final are kinda hard, you have to study. But she's an overall easy grader.

Professor Mahaffey was an excellent teacher, she was clear and understanding. There are only a handful of test and three really easy essays. The rest of the class is just submitting a 150 word response and peer feedback on the forum. There is also no midterm or final. Very enjoyable and easy class. I would definetely recommend it!

Class is based on critical thinking Her grading is very clear, however, being very thorough with broad explanations will help your grade. If you have questions, PLEASE ask. I suggest everyone to meet her at least once even the online courses. Assignments gets tougher by the unit. Do not take the class unless you are prepared to think critical.

I took her for Freshman Comp 1 and 2 and she is my favorite professor so far. She is a very tough grader but she is always there for you and gives the most amazing lectures. It's never boring in her classroom and I highly recommend her for Freshman Composition.

Take her if you want to meet a goddess. Also, her class is pretty engaging and she tries really hard for her students. She will literally go over something 20+ times because of the redundancy of her students and never get bothered. Her grading might seem rather strict, but just go to the writing center to get your grammar checked.

She makes boring literature to interesting topic. I just love to listen to her and her interpretation of literatures stories and crazy poems.

She really taught me how to properly analyze literature, and in turn, making me a better writer (for research type papers at least). A lot of the class is based on audio learning, as she doesn't post notes or lectures online, so if you are a visual learner, you will have a bit of difficulty. Overall she is an amazing professor, and very insightful.

I have learned a lot in this class professor Mahaffey really gets her students to think about things you'd never think that you will talk about. This class is very interesting and you interact with others a lot so get ready.

Professor Mahaffey presented us with an option at the beginning of the semester-chose the assignments you wish to complete from her selection of coursework and have it all turned in by the end of the semester. Her assignments were flexible, and they all allowed you be creative and explore the readings further-not just read for the sake of reading.

The difficult thing about this class is staying on top of your assignments since there's no set deadlines for each individual assignment. If you're not a good writer you may not want to take this class. Other than that, it's a fun and interesting class to take and she gives really good feedback.

This professor is great! She assigns 3 essays per semester, and we spend some class time working on them. She is willing to meet during office hours if you need the help, and offers extra credit along with each paper. The extra credit is pretty lengthy, but worth it because the points go towards your overall grade. Would definitely take her again!

This online course is perfect for someone with a difficult schedule. It was very liberating. The analytical papers were somewhat challenging but all in all I enjoyed this course.

I took Professor Mahaffey for Comp 1 and she has greatly helped me improve my writing ability. She teaches you how to break away from the typical high school styled essays and allows you to properly express yourself in your papers. I will definitely be taking her again for Comp 2!

You choose what assignments you want to do and turn those in by the end of the semester and that's it. Some of the assignments confused me, but once you get going, they're extremely easy and fun to do. Take her, you won't regret it. She gives really positive feedback for your writing too.

I loved this professor! I took her for ENC 1102 online and all the assignments made perfect sense. I ended the class with a very high grade. There's also a chance for extra credit at the end of the semester if you need it.

She has good communication skill to explain the subject in a simple and systematic way, which will make any student comfortable and confident about the subject. I enjoyed her class with out any prior experience in subject, but her simple and friendly lectures helped me a lot to get up to the speed and to be a better writer. I recommend this class.

Professor Mahaffey is so down to earth. She is usually very considerate about everything. My advice to you, is to make it on time to days that are mandatory (peer review, exams, etc). She is a lot different than ENC 1101, so if you are taking that and expecting another easy class, this isn't for you. You will need to work hard. Work effort grade!

Most of the people in this class were too lazy to do the reading, a few stories a week and like three papers. You have to do peerreview. SHe let's her students discuss the work but all they do is complain like babies. I was sad because they ruined the class.

She is a great professor, very knowledgeable and ethical. She does give a lot of homework and her class requires you to put a lot of work and time in it. If you don't like to think critically or analyse work, get ready to analyse and read a lot. In the end will be worth it because you will learn a lot. She will help you if you work with her.

Be ready to learn. Life is not handed to you and don't expect it to be a cake walk. This class is eye opening not only in school but in life. She is an amazing teacher but does expect a lot from her students. You have a lot of work but in the end it'll make you stronger and ready for anything. Take her if you want to learn ! Professor Mahaffey is not only an awesome teacher, but an awesome person. Participation really matters, its a grade, and don't think this is an easy class. All the readings are interesting and fun to discuss. You just have to do the work and follow the guidelines to get a good grade. You should attend - it reflects on participation,but not required

For this class there is a lot of work so be prepared for that if you are going to take this class. She is a really awesome professor though and will help you succeed with a lot of extra credit opportunities if you are willing to do them. The stories are all interesting and the papers are easy.

She will tell you to read a story and be ready to talk for the next time you come to class( every time). Also be sure to be prepared for the midterm, where you have to remember all the stories you were suppose to read outside of class. Also be ready to write some papers in class.

Professor Mahaffey is very direct in what she expects from her students. I personally believe she's a great professor, you just need to do your part. If you want to pass, you're going to have to work for it. She gives reading instead of hw and you must be prepared to discuss them in class. The SL sessions are VERY helpful and I recommend going.

I adore her and it really sucks that there are some students that are cruel to her. She's an amazing professor and she's very upfront about what she expects from you. There were 2 paper and a project. No hw just readings and those are very important. SL is a big help, so attend as much as you can. By far one of my favorite classes and professors.

Professor Mahaffey is an excellent instructor. She is kind and friendly but be prepared to read alot and participate. Also, she gives extra credit which helps to bump up a bad grade. Her class is extremely intellectual.

One of my favorite classes the entire year. I looked forward to coming to class and talking about the stories and hearing what everyone's unique take on it. One thing to look out for is that you have to really work for your grade, don't expect this class to be an easy A. But no matter what grade you earn you will leave learning something new.

I love her, so far she has been one of my favorite professors ever (taken her 2x). Im not going to lie though, this class is very hard and the essays require a lot of time outside class. Just make sure you send in your assignments on time (no late work) and talk every once in a while and you can do well. Ask her questions too! Shes also funny :)

Within her online course you are able to plan out your schedule. She gives you assignment options ranging from 2 to 25 points and your total points at max is 100 points. You choose your assignments and your deadlines! She does not take late assignments; however, she does give many opportunities to do extra credit.

Do not take this class unless you are prepared to work. She is hard, harder than any class, but very knowledgeble. You will definitely learn how to write in this class and you will think about things you never thought about before. I would take her again but she is not for the weak of heart (hint, don't take her if you just want an easy A).

Professor Mahaffey is an awesome professor. She is extremely caring, and passionate about what she does as a profession. The ENC 1102 course is very challenging, but not impossible if you do what is expected of you. Challenging courses will benefit you intellectually in the log run and force you to utilize all of your knowledge. Take this course!

Essays are lengthy and challenging but what else can you expect.

You have about 4 papers to complete in one semester. They are very well spaced so you are given more than enough time to complete. Basically just do what she says and you'll pass easy. Follow the criteria. The teacher is very responsive with questions. Just turn in your work ON TIME

Professor Mahaffey is literally a ray of sunshine in my day! Her class is hard, so don't take it if you want an easy A. She genuinely cares about the students and although her assignments are hard, they're not impossible if you actually do your work.

Very open about students opinions on any subject, will hear out any interpretation of a story not matter how ridiculous so long as it can be tied in.

I recommend this class a lot because it made me improve as a writer. Also, this class is difficult since it demands a lot from you as student. Shes a great professor really good reading choices but however her final research paper for English 102 is ridiculous standards way too high very time-consuming very stressful her requirements for this paper seem really unrealistic. Her final research paper seems impossible to pass.

I had this class online, so I had very few assignments. Just papers. She gave ample time to complete each paper, and even gave us extended time after Hurricane Irma hit. Would definitely take her for Fresh Comp II. She responds to emails promptly, and gives feedback on each paper.

The intensity over online was not bad. We only have about 4-5 essays through-out the 16 weeks.

The class is mostly discussion and very focused on the content. Assignments are challenging, a lot of reading and 2 long papers in the semester. Gives extra credit opportunities. She is very nice and supportive, but if you want to take her class make sure you do the work and follow instructions.

Throughout my 16 weeks in the Professors Class, I was tasked with writing about 4-6 Papers. I should outline that the class I took was Online, and not on-campus. I have no idea what her on-campus expectations are. Professor Mahaffey provided fair criticism, pushed you through her assignments, and genuinely seems to be empathetic. Also, no textbook.

Prof. Mahaffey is super nice. You read a lot and write a few lengthy papers. She provides quite a few opportunities for extra credit though. She always said her class was hard, but I really didn't think so. She made coming to class easy. Its not your usual lecture class, you talk with the class a lot.

I really enjoyed this class! The books weren't really up my alley, but we were encouraged to get creative and make them interesting to ourselves. She was super helpful, gave great feedback, and did give plenty of opportunity for extra credit. I'm taking another of her classes this summer.

Amazing teacher, I took her online 13-18th century English literature. She gives you a lot of time in advance to finish assignments. 4 papers and 4 discussions. Great teacher, easy class if you keep up with your work. Also, you get to plan your deadlines.

assignments were simple and there were only 7 to do. She left a list of all the assignments and their due dates at the end of her syllabus which I really appreciated seeing as it was an online class. biggest downside was that the layout of her blackboard pg was confusing. make sure to check all links. provides extra credit opportunities.

Loved class discussions, really helped understand how the text and concepts relate and how they may apply to the reader. Very laid back class structure, there's only a few assignments, she's a tough grader but fair if you put forth the extra effort, so get started early

Pretty easy just do your discussion posts and turn in papers on time. There are only 8 assignments. 2 papers, 6 discussions and you can choose your due dates with a contract. Make sure to follow instructions though for discussions because she wont grade it if you dont. Will be taking her again for English lit.

Overall she is a tough grader. You mainly have two essays and the last one is the hardest(13 pg MLA paper). You have to meet all the criteria if not she will deduct 50% off your grade rite of the back. Cares more about participation rather than attendance. Her biggest take away she wants you to get is how to write an academically well-written paper

Took her online British Lit. I HATED the way she formatted the online course (VERY CONFUSING) and she had trouble setting up assignments so they could actually be submitted, but she was very nice in every conversation we had. Class is reading & essay heavy, but if you are self-disciplined and good with reading, writing, and working hard, go for it.

Shes a good person with a good soul and good intentions, but her class isnt for everybody. You will have to read a lot and write a 10 page paper at the end.

Enjoyable class, she covers all the material thoroughly. Navigating the material in canvas had a few issues over the semester, however it wasnt detrimental and was fixed immediately after being brought to her attention. Most of the assignments are weighted heavily so do your best.

I think she's a good teacher , somthings may be hard to understand but just ask , she will really talk through it with you . No homework , just read short story . other then that just go to class you should be alright . what might be hard to be might be easy to you ;)

Professor Mahaffey is a very friendly professor who is always ready to answer questions. You must show up to all classes in order to stay on track because she only grades about 7 things the whole semester. There is two essays the first one is minimum 6 pages and the last one is minimum 10 pages. Start things early and participate in extra credit.

Prof Mahaffey made sure that you knew what you were getting into since day one of class. She's very responsive, and makes an effort to try to get to know her students even though this was an online class; she always gives on feedback on your assignments too. No busy work, and the assignments are one per topic. You don't even need a textbook.

There will be a lot of writing, but this should be obvious. Professor Mahaffey will definitely be one of my favorite English teachers. She is very informative about what you need for each paper. As well as each assignment. As well as making class fun with anecdotes from the Office or other TV show clips. Do your Homework. You'll Pass Easy!

Professor Mahaffey is a caring, nice and great professor! We write a lot for this class only b/c of the Gordon Rule requirements-- she understands that writing lengthy papers can be intimidating. So she's more than willing to help her students activate their creative thinking process + make the word count/page count so they can make a good grade.

I honestly really enjoyed her class. There were a few assignments that challenged my abilities, but I think it was for the best. With that being said, I don't think this course is made for everyone.

Easy class but you have to keep task and do what she tells you. Don't forget to do the reflections or else 50% of your grade is gone.

I've taken two classes online with Professor Mahaffey and loved both of them, World Lit and English Lit. Don't take these classes unless you actually like reading and writing! All her instructions are very clear and if you follow them, you will pass. She gives great feedback and is always available to help. Use Grammarly before you submit anything!

This class was very hard for me, but it was also my first college-level writing course. I found most of the modules interesting and I've definitely grown as a writer. I wouldn't suggest it if detailed analysis isn't for you.

A very interesting class with lots of themes & discussions u dont often get to be a part of. She really knows what shes doing w literature. Lots of creative freedom here! If youre lazy & want an easy class just to get the credit out of the way then keep looking. Nonetheless, due to the hard work I really felt like the class did something 4 me.

Professor Mahaffey knows what she is doing when it comes to literature. Where some would say it is a lot of work, it is interesting. The class has 3 discussion post, 2 presentations and 2 papers. It is a lot of of written work, so if you are not good at extensive writing I would not recommend this class. Other than the amount of hours you have to put in, the grading is bases mainly on completion and not context. All the assignments are pass/fail.

I took Professor M. for enc 1102 during summer (6 wk. course. She does a great job at explaining what you need to do to excel on each assignment. Because it was a 6 wk. course there was only one lengthy paper. The day it was due she sent out an announcement to make sure we fixed a couple of things so she really does want you to succeed!

This professor asks questions that are at a deeper level while you review your reading materials. During the semester, the work load was combined to make it less stressful but it was like writing a tone of mini essays. The professor engages with as many students as possible and gives helpful feedback. She also is great to have discussions with!

Overall she is a good teacher who offers extra credit however what is required for her assignments can be a little bit confusing.

She does contract grading so you decide how much work you want to do for what grade you want to receive. Most assignments are optional besides three and attendance is mandatory.

She was one of my favorite professors so far. She does pass/fail grading on each assignment, so as long as you reach the requirements, you'll do really well in this class. We were given a lot of freedom as each assignment was based off of a poem/short story of our own choosing. Loved this class, easy A, I definitely recommend!!

This professor is very clear on how to get the best grades in her class, (if you dont want the best grades, thats up to you). Her work is easy to follow, and if for any reason you are not clear on something, she is always readily available to assist. Taking Mrs. Mahaffey's class I learned a lot and improved my thinking skills. He pass or fail grading system can be confusing to some, but it is a great concept to work with. I struggle with writing essays and her assignments prepared me for the research essay.

Prof. Mahaffey has a unique grading system that can be confusing but is very relaxing once you grasp it. She's very relaxed as to attendance and deadlines, and loves discussions in class. There's lots of reading, but it's good reading. She has good explanations for the topics of the week and welcomes many perspectives. I'd recommend her to anyone!

I really loved her grading system, she made everything 2 points so you could do an essay or a discussion post and it weighed the same. She tells you at the beginning of class how many points/assignments you need to do so there isn't any confusion. Would definitely take her class again.

I took Mahaffey for a summer accelerated course. Jesus Christ. It was definitely a ton of work (i work FT) but it was all self paced. She is a kick a** teacher. Her class allowed me to be as creative as i wanted to be and i genuinely enjoyed it. I might just take more of her classes despite being a sciences major. 1000000/10.

She was very pleasant in class and always treated everyone well. Her grading was done in such a way that as long as you did the work and were on the right path it was impossible not to get full credit. The only difficult assignment in the course is the one required by Florida Law. I would take her class again anytime.

Ms. Mahaffey was a great English teacher. She does contract grading which I really liked. She is very clear with her grading and assignments. She is slightly unresponsive when it comes to emailing her questions. There are 3-4 essays that are mandatory plus some other easy assignments, other than that this class was super easy.

Mrs. Mahaffey was a really good professor in general and she used contract grading which was my favorite part of this whole class. you only have to do a certain number of assignments to get an A and there was only 4 essays throughout the entire class. The assignments are not very hard and the class was relatively enjoyable.

Flexible Helpful Not too much work

All assignments for this class aren't due until the week of Thanksgiving so she gives you an infinite amount of time to complete all assignments necessary for a passing grade. There are 3-4 essays in the class and you only need to do one and get a passing grade on it in order to be able to pass the class. Overall easy class.
