Girl got jokes!
Great teacher! She genuinely cares for her students, you can always ask her for help. when she tells you to read the book, do it! you'll be thankful you did. and, girl got jokes.
Good sense of humor! She cares a lot about her students. Very helpful and understanding , she gives you exactly what you need to pass her class. Read your textbook when she tells you to, or you'll regret it. Overall GREAT professor!! Highly recommend :)
Ms. Thayer was a great professor. She helped me to overcome my fear of public speaking. I strongly suggest taking her class!
Professor Thayer tells you exactly what she wants and how she wants it. There is no guessing as to what you need to do for each speech. That being said, she does expect you to actually do the work. She will work with you on anything that you may have questions with and will even go over your speeches with you before they are due.
Professor Thayer is one of the best! She really loves what she does, and helps you feel comfortable around people. I had her for a summer course and she was excellent. She grades very fairly. You get what you work for. I definitely recommend taking her if you need a speech credit.
Just be sure not skip, she will NOT be chill with that. Be sure to read the textbook or she will assign summaries. Come prepared to class, late work is not very welcome.
I love Professor Mays. She's a great teacher and really cares about her students. I looked forward to her lectures. She teaches you how to deliver your speeches with confidence. Just be sure to attend class and prepare/deliver your speeches and you will be fine. I would definitely take her again.
Mrs. Mays is AWESOME. Take her class you won't regret it!!! She has an awesome personality! I hated Speech until I took her. You will not regret taking her!!!
I am SO happy that I ended up in Mrs. Mays' class. I wasn't looking forward to taking speech and this is one of my favorite classes. It is all because of the instructor. She is AWESOME! Her enthusiasm and joyful spirit make the class fun. Mrs. Mays has taught me a lot in a very short time frame. Great instructor. Take her!
Awesome!!!
Mrs. Mays is tough but fair. She lets you know what is expected and when, (you just have to listen in class), so be prepared. She also tells you what she expects from the students during class but gives a little too much leeway on this in my opinion. If you listen and take a few notes, you will do well.
what a great teacher who really cares. I was really scared at first but she makes you feel very comfortable speaking in front of the class. She's great I wish her the best....o yea she loves to laugh
Really Funny "But Did You Die" LOL I enjoyed her class a lot and learned so much each and every speech. Although she's great she is a tough grader you get what you deserve. Don't think your going to get an easy A.
Great teacher! I had no interest in public speaking but ended up really liking the class and learned a lot. Mays is fantastic!! Tough but fair grader, she is always available to her students and good personality. A great experience all around. She is very clear on directions with assignments. Lee is a better college having Mays. : )
She a very fun teacher, obsessed with everything Disney. We used the text book at the beginning of the class but that was it, the rest of the time we gave and listened to speeches from other class mates. She is not that easy of a grader, definitely makes you work for your grade, but if you show up and give your speech your sure to pass.
Mrs mays was very helpful , and really cares about her students , I'm glad I took her even though it was a mini session it was worth every second
Mrs. Mays was awesome but don't get it twisted you will work for your grade she is very understanding and very helpful and gives good feedback and she explains everything really good as long as you try you will do just fine :)
Easy class as long as you do what she tells you, there is no reason you shouldn't pass! Her outlines for speeches are super easy, and she is very helpful with the feedback that she gives. Don't get me wrong, you get what you deserve as far as grades go but she is very helpful. She is HILARIOUS! Literally the funniest professor of my life!
I was very skeptical about how I was going to pass my speech class this semester, but Professor Mays made me feel so comfortable by the way she approached everyone in the class and I was able to put my fears aside and complete the task at hand. he told us that we underestimate our abilities, so we was able to believe in ourselves during the course
Mrs. Mays is very funny and I absolutely loved her class. It helped me so much confidence wise and speaking to people.
Great class! Would retake it if I had to, it helps that she is very open with her students. She is very funny and loves to hear feedback from everyone. Also loves to share things that I found really nice to hear about because it made the class less awkward considering that public speaking is very hard for a lot of people. Take her class if you can
Mrs. Mays was AMAZING & fun!!! She's somewhat a tough grader, but she explains what she expects clearly. Participation and discussion is a MUST in her class, she will get irritated if no one gives feedback after speeches. She makes the class very comfortable and relates a lot to everyone. Books were discussed first few weeks. " But did you die".
Mrs. Mays is one of the best professors at Lee! We used the book the first few weeks of class, otherwise, it's not needed. I enjoyed her class (which I initially dreaded taking) as she has an enthusiastic spirit and generally cares for her students and their success. She loves everything Disney, which was a plus, as I do too. Take her!
She is really funny. Alway willing to listen to you. She tells you what she wants. She loves loves Disney and corny jokes.
If you put the time in, you will pass. She gives you clear outlines for the speeches and if you have any questions she lets you know that you can email or text her if you need help. Shes a great teacher and very funny. I really enjoyed taking her class.
Professor Thayer will go above and beyond to help you succeed. She loves the subject and gives clear instruction on exactly what she expects from you. No guesswork here. Just do the assignments and you will be fine!
I dreaded this class and I was pleasantly surprised that this ended up being one of my best classes. She is funny, cares about you doing well, easy to work with. She explains many times what to expect and how things will be graded. Be respectful and participate in group discussions and it is an A for sure.
Very great teacher overall, will help you with your weaknesses.
Best professor for speech. Take her
Really funny and caring. My friend and I loved her so much we decided to post how great she is. Take her
Mrs. Mays is one of THE best professors I've ever had. Her lectures are wonderful and she is very clear about what she expects from you. You get what you work for, plain and simple. I'd definitely take her class again, and I would most certainly recomend her for anyone with a fear of public speaking!
She's an amazing teacher. She's easy going but tells it like it is. Wish I could take her for every class.
Mrs. Mays my fellow students is someone you need to take in your life if you have not taken a speech class. If your nervous do not worry She is the one that will put you straight and teach you how its done. Now she will tell you straight up how she is and how she wants her work and you of course have to put that effort, You get what you work for!!
She is definitely a great professor! Do the work and you will pass easily. She is inspirational and I loved her lectures. I was terrified to take speech, but with her personality I was at ease. Take her if you get the chance. She is one of a kind.
She was a great teacher. I'm not one to speak in front of a bunch of people but she helped a lot and showed the class exactly what to do and how to prepare for your speeches.
She is a great teacher that is kind, but will tell you things straight up so don't expect a filter. Also if you have a problem with her don't go behind her back talk to her about it.
Speech is one class I was not ready to take! But Mrs. Mays is an amazing teacher and I really enjoy the class! Just read your materials and do your homework and research and you will do great!
I found courage in sharing my own experiences. I shared them not because I was after a good grade; I found I shared my life after I heard other classmates personal experiences. This class relates to therapy in a positive way. I found that this course has changed my life! You will not regret taking Mrs. Mays.-Work hard x(2)+recite your speeches A+
Loved this class. Made speaking simple and affective! She's awesome and hilarious!
Disney, do the work, not hard
Was very funny, made the class feel relaxed and unstressful.
Could tell she wanted you to get better but, didn't pressure you to if you didn't want to.
She is very caring. Also makes you work for your grade. She cares about you understanding what she is teaching and is dedicated to her job.
Great class! I hate speaking in front of others, but she made the class fun. Willing to work with you to make sure you pass. Best teacher at Lee college.
Great teacher
Absolutely loved her class! She was fun, kept me engaged even at 7AM. I wish she taught other classes! I would 100% recommend her to other people.
I loved Professor Mays! She is very caring, and loves her job. She wants her students to succeed, and will help you.
Ms. Mays is an amazing professor and an amazing person! As someone who was highly uncomfortable speaking (but wanted to get better at it!), Ms. Mays was the best speech professor I could've taken. She's wonderfully encouraging & caring, will absolutely go out of her way to help you get better, and provides very clear and consistent feedback.
She is an amazing professor! Shes there for all of her students. Its hard not to pass. If you do what is asked of you will pass! My favorite professor by far!
She is amazing! I don't like speaking in front of people but she makes it so comfortable. She helps you get over your fear. By the end of the semester everyone in class ended up friends. Great conversations!
Great professor to help with writing, very understandable and great with communication inside and outside of class.
I would highly recommend Mrs. Mays! She is very upfront about what she expects of you and has no problem calling you out. I took her new Hybrid class so we did not see her as much as a normal class, but so far she has been one of my favorite professors at Lee. As long as you do the work it should be a super easy A!
Professor Mays has VERY clear expectations! You are expected to go to the writing center ONCE, there are 5 speeches, online homework, reading, and feedback after speeches, along with the final, that's it. If you participate, SHOW RESPECT, IT IS HER CLASS AFTER ALL, ask questions if you need to (she'll even meet with you if you need it). you'll pass
Took her during a winter mini, i made an A and would highly suggest practicing with her before your actual speech because she will tell you exactly what you should work on and even give you a fake grade to let you know where you stand.
Took her during Summer 1 5-week class. She's clear on the expectations that come with each speech and its really easy to pass the class. She gives assigned readings and you will need the book occasionally for assignments. Speeches were never over anything hard and I would recommend this class because it was super easy.
COMPLETELY deflates students confidence. Worst professor I've ever had.
She does not have favorites. People get shocked when she doesn't take late work and you have to earn your grade. She actually challenges us to speak with conviction. Take her if you want someone who cares.
She is awesome and HILARIOUS. Be sure to read the chapters or you will have to do extra work!
Best class I've taken. Grading is based on the truth: we are ALL scared to speak. Only have to read 5 sections (<30 min) for homework, I did it with the book in the library. Be prepared to get to know your classmates. Mrs. Mays is awesome at what she does and specific about what you need to work on. Overall a great class, 10/10 would do again.
Great instructor!
Although Ms. Mays is a caring teacher, she grades inconsistently. Has a sarcastic attitude that can sometimes go a little too far. And will not bump students, no exceptions.
First thing I noticed about Mays is sarcasm towards students. Tries to be funny. Calls out your mistakes. Must READ! TOUGH GRADER! Its like you arent allowed to mess up! She has a cool personality but her teaching isnt CLEAR/CONCISE neither is her feedback. Ive worked hard on speeches & yet my gpa fell bc her grading. Shouldve took Whitlow.
She means well, knows speech is scary, but is naturally intimidating. To keep her happy you need to have feedback on everything. If the class is silent, she wont be happy, but if you are one of the few people who talk during chapter discussions then you wont have to write the summaries like everyone else. Just say something. Make her notice you.
Super chill and cool! She's actually caring and funny, her class isn't hard at all unless you don't do the work...I like her way of being w/ her students! She actually explains the assignments!
Lot's of last minute things. She never had very clear directions or rubrics. When I asked for help she told me to go to the writing center. The very few extra credit she did give it was very confusing to understand.
She has been my favorite professor BY FAR. She makes her class so much fun. I was terrified of taking this class because I do not like to speak in front of people, but she made me feel so comfortable. EASY GRADER. If you do what your told, and TRY during your speech, easy A. Love, love, love her!
She needs to be more organized, specially with grades. Be ready to have your grades missing and messed up the last week of finals.
she as a person is really great, but I found her to be really moody. she won't let you do a speech she disagrees with. not a lot of teaching, mostly just doing speeches. have to make your time for the speeches or you'll get a bad grade. there was a group speech. easy a, but weird class experience.
She is very straight forward and will give feedback in what you want to know. Just read the book she makes you get and youll have zero problems what so ever, you will need to attend class everyday since she does count attendance and participation. She will go over every speech and tell you exactly how to have it. Like I said, VERY STRAIGHT FORWARD
Ms. Thayer was amazing. I am terrified of public speaking, but she helped me get through my speeches. She understands that public speaking is a worldwide fear. She shares her own story so that people know they aren't alone. She cares more about her students' mental state than their speeches. She is so easy to talk to. I loved her class.
She has the right approach, she makes students comfortable to speak in public but she does not grade based on the quality of the student speeches and the enticement they get from the audience. She only grades based on her criteria which I believe is very old schooled. She eats during class time frequently and the fast food odor is disturbing.
I just took Professor Thayer over the Holiday. She is amazing. Her class is easy to follow online. She gives you her number to text and ask questions. She is direct ,but wants to help you succeed. She is the best professor I have taken so far in college. You won't regret taking her. My advice would be do not read.
She is organized in an online setting. Everything is split into five folders. One for the book, one for the three speeches, and one for the project. I took this class in three weeks and easily passed. Follow instructions, learn MLA, don't read, and you will be fine. She answers questions quickly so don't be afraid to ask.
Shes a great teacher!
She was nice but for sure a tough grader. She gives good feedback if you do you work. Fair amount of work and youre able to get it done early cause she uploads 3 weeks at a time. Participation matters during live speeches she expects you to chime in more than twice every time.
People who say she is rude clearly do not get her. She is funny and admits when she is wrong which is such a good quality. Does she make jokes , yes. Does it make class interesting, of course. She is the most open minded professor that I have ever seen. She is student friendly. Talk to her. Get to know her as I doubt you will find another gem.
Professor Thayer might be a critical grader however you will not recieve anything lower than a B on a speech unless you absolutely didn't even bother putting in any work or effort. Her lectures are great and feel like an actual conversation instead. She really cares for her students and their success and will work with you if you have any issues.
Professor Thayer, I took her Speech class and honestly she made me get over my fears, and speak up infront of groups of people. She made all her work challenging a bit, but she provided all the help possible, and honestly I could not thank her more. Professor Thayer is easily to say, the best Professor on campus. Definitely recommend taking her: ).
did a 3-week course online, and it was amazing! The effort is what matters the most. Her lectures were short. She always gave individual feedback, but she grades lightly. She was a sarcastic and nice person, and she tries to make you feel comfortable. I was able to contact her 8am to 8pm, so she really tries to help! Textbook was not needed.
Professor Jordan was too focused on politics and conspiracy theories rather than public speaking. After every speech day we wasted class time debating political issues, during which she too often shut down students with her right wing political views. She seems like a nice human, but would not recommend her as a professor.
She is so open minded and encourages students to speak with conviction while sometimes playing devils advocate to make sure you stand your ground. She is sarcastic and funny. Follow her assignment checklist and you will pass with ease.
Took the course as a 3-week course online. She lays out her blackboard very easily, so it is easy to understand. There are instructions for everything; she even made a checklist of everything you need to do. It is probably your fault if you don't pass or get a high grade because she sets you up for success. Very easy and would take it again.
Mandy Jordan is a very poor professor. Good luck learning anything in her class. Please take her online if you do not want to fight with a professor during class. The class is horrible because the speeches happen, but she is eager to discuss the topic and fight with the students who oppose her instead of the quality of the speech. All poltics/bias.
Professor Jordan was easily my favorite professor she was very kind hearted and gave awesome feedback on assignments
I dreaded taking Speech, Ms. Jordan's style was friendly and had a calming personality. I am not a fan of group projects, luckily it was only one. I felt like I learned great skills for the future. Would take another course from her again.
Highly recommend taking professor Jordan! extremely sweet and understanding and made the class very enjoyable to take even as a student who is terrified of public speaking.
Mrs. Jordan is truly phenomenal! She has a unique ability to make the classroom feel like a second home. Her welcoming demeanor and genuine care for her students shine through in every interaction. She's not only an easy grader but also someone who goes above and beyond to ensure everyone feels safe and supported.
She is the most caring professor. She challenges you to believe in yourself. She is always there to answer questions. She is big on mental health and gives words of affirmation to her students before speeches. This was the best experience I have had incollege so far.
