Touch and go. Sometimes, he gives great, clear lectures, while other times, it's so clear he'd rather be somewhere else, and hasn't preparred for lecture at all. Some tests are very reasonable, while others are very difficult.

Wastes a lot of time on examples that don't work out.
reminded us everyday how he was a cal teacher not stats. too smart to be a teacher. Never very clear, alwasys seemed out of it and bored while he was teaching and never prepared. made fun of slower kids and made learning stats very difficult.
gives a lot of extra points for homework. Tip: do homework in his favorite kind of lab book, try to fill it in. use as much space as possible. even if you skip the problem from the last chapter and homework was already graded, copy it from somebody.
Smith is a really great teacher, but his class is extrmeley hard. If you want to learn a lot reguardless of your grade, this is the class to take. Smith has a really good sense of humor.
This is obviously his favorite subject since he was enthusiastic, prepared and very clear. The tests were hard, but fair and often come from a homework problem. I took this in the summer, so the pace was very quick. If you must take Math 255, take him.
He's the kind of teacher who rewards thinking "outside the box." If you're weak in math, take another teacher. If you're strong, then you'll have fun. Energetic, opinionated, but without rancor. Likes his students. Relates statistics to the
This professor gives you only two tests plus the final with no quizes in the semester. It is a lot of material for this method in his classes. The tests contain kind of problems NOT SEEN in classes. I think he likes to be rated as "HARD". He is
An amazing professor. He knows what he is teaching and how to explain it in the clearest ways. I would recommend him for anyone serious about learning math. He has the passion for it
Worst math teacher ever. Avoid like the plague!!
Always 10-15 mins. late, even on the final. Instruction methods are helter-skelter. I found the exams didnot follow the reviews. Unless you are a math guru, donot take this guy
yeah he's good especially on his sober days
He makes class fun but only because he has a good sense of humor. His teaching is very unclear and hard to follow. He knows the information very well but fails miserably at being able to actually teach the subject. I DO NOT recommend taking his class, and this is coming from a Math Major.
Do not take him if your struggling with math. He speeds through the material and does problems on the board without much explaination. He seems to be more concerned with his higher math classes and is very unapproachable when asking questions outside of class.

always late, not clear and organized. very slappy when he writes on the board. Good luck if you decide to go there!
He is very disorganized. He makes up words that are difficult to associate with math (ex. Zapper and Zappiee) He teaches new material and gives a quiz over it in the same class period. Material on quiz doesn't follow with homework assignments.
this guy has a HUGE ego, he makes his tests impossibly hard. he's the type of professor who'll probably get offended if you pass his class. i would suggest him for math majors, not if you're taking this for your GE. if you're already good in math, then i wouldn't worry.
He doesn't respect his students, by showing up late and wise cracking whenever we ask questions about things he thinks idiots down the street could answer.
Dr. Smith is pretty funny in a dry humor kind of way. He is clear and prepares you well for the math 96 test. If you put in the work and do some hw you will do well. Took him in the summer = B.
good teacher, hard subject. third test was a big curveball- i think everyone failed
Mr.Smith is the best teacher!!! You'll learn a lot and he make you wanna become healthy!!!
Cocky, arrogant but he knows what he's talking about. Puts obscure topics into terms that's more easily understood. I learned a lot, just keep up with the work. Tests are a good measure of lecture comprehension. Great class-A. Highly recommended if you have a good understanding of mathematics.
Always 10 minutes late. Retired engineer who thinks everyone is a retired engineer. If you're not a math major, stay far, far away. Tests are remarkably more difficult than anything covered in lecture or textbook. Prepare to become uncomfortably familiar with the tutor center.
dr. smith is a easy going guy and pretty funny, but i got to admitt a little cocky about math. i like this class and learn alot and would recommend any students to take his class...
Excellent teacher, gave lots of good information outside the textbook. Great sense of humor and keeps you interested.
The class isn't a GE class unless your in the TAG program. ****arrogant, but good. Tries to encourage doesn't put his students down, makes you go to the board and helps you when you make mistakes. This is a math major class taught by someone who thinks everybody should be a math major. You can pass but show up every day and study.
He is arogant and stupid. He doesn't respect his student. He think that the best education field is only mathematics.
Has dry sense of humor. Is good teacher, but can sometimes make you feel bad for not remembering some material. Be prepared to solve problems on the board. For Math 96ers, it's great that in order to pass the class u need to pass the final. That fact saved my butt.
he thinks jumping around in the book is going to help you. does not like to show steps(its for middle school math) he is so arrogant. his teaching style was not for me, nor for the 75% of the rest of the class
This teacher is the best, but he only teaches at ECC. if i could take any other class with him i would. best teacher ever. 100% guarantee you will love his class and learn! the best teacher out there, that i have known, even if you dont need this class take him, you will have a blast.
This man is one of the more arrogant and uncaring teachers that I have experienced. He will laugh at you while you are taking tests, criticize without providing help, and generally seems to enjoy the suffering of his students. With that said, he definitely knows what he's talking about, and clarifies the information well.
Way laid back (too much?) but pretty cool teacher. If you are good with math he's a good teacher to take but not so much if you struggle with math.

Too funny! If for nothing else, show up so you can be entertained! Very funny and keeps the subject matter light. Enjoyed him very much and can't wait to take another class from him!
I love Michael. He is so sincere, honest, witty, fun. He has a genuine knack for keeping it real. He is current on all health issues and has an amazing background. He has interesting stories, the class is easy if you just come. He is into this class and you will be too. Keep him at ECC.
True, Smith is an arrogant jerk, an ex-engineer, and a clown. But he really gives a damn. If you ask him he will help you, but he will make you work for it. He is hard, but he is the fairest math prof at City. At least he was an engineer, Thomas has never had a real job in her life, which is why she is so heartless.
Not orgonized, Home work grading is BAD. Take someone else if you want to do well and not be too stressed out.
I found him to be difficult teacher. He only has two exams, whicch are comprehensive.
By far the worst professor I have ever had, This man will make you go to the chalk board, work problems out that he can rarely work out himself, and then make you look like a fool for not knowing the problem. If you love Math this guy is for you, if not I would completely recommend someone else. Also take it credit not credit.
I liked linear algebra and it made sense to me (not like Calc III). Smith really knows LA and likes it too, I learned a lot. He will teach things that you will not be taught until later classes giving you a leg up. If you're not a math major though, pass. 3 people lasted through to the end because the tests are HARD.
smith could be more prepared, but he really knows his stuff. sometimes i thought his chalk would catch fire. i learned a lot. don't expect any respect from this guy until after you survived his class. stick it out, work many problems and fire back when he talks trash. oh and be prepared to laugh.
Danger stay away. WTF? is this guy's problem? Arrogant SOB who gets a kick out of giving F's. It's not even challenging its just confusing. I took class again and got an A. Loves to humiliate students as if that were going to do any good F himDo youreslf a favor and take ANYONE else this guy needs to be away from society as a whole! Burn in hell
Have him for Summer, and we're already short on time, and yet he still shows up 15-20 minutes late EVERYDAY! He whizzes through everything, & spends the entire time on proofs, rarely going through book problems. HW is to be turned in weekly, if you don't get at least half credit on hw, you will FAIL even with As on all tests. I DON'T RECOMMEND HIM!
I HATE THIS TEACHER! That's all I have to say. I can't stand him. He is never clear on anything. He changes the homework after you have already done it. I got to school the next day and he told the class that WE did the wrong page!! Couldn't believe it. He also makes you work problems on the board and will yell at you in front of everyone.
Every single morning he is over 15-20 min late. Late for 20 min, then tells about 20 min's of bad jokes or stories. He makes up crazy long questions on the board, that will never be on the final. He only had two midterms, no other tests or quizzes. Only two people in the class passed the midterm! How could the whole class be so far behind?
DANGER!!!!!!!!!!! STAY THE HELL AWAY!!!!!!!!!!!This professor loves to humiliate students is not helpful and loves to throw things especially chalk. Take any other instructer except him.
I said this before in my 254 review, if you're not a math major: Don't take him. PERIOD. If you are, he will be very hard but you'll learn more than you will from anyone else. What I learned from him made Diff Eq fairly easy this semester, and his Intro to LA made upper division Linear Algebra (524) a cakewalk.
He's about as amusing as petrie dish full of botulism, and as helpful as a carnival barker.....I could have benifitted more from eating gum off the sidewalk.....at one point I daydreamed of stepping in front of a trolley just so I wouldn't have to go back to his class. He is one of the most vicious and unhappy people I have ever met.
i hate this teacher!...he so gosh so dumb....he doesnt' go by the book which drives me crazy because the homework is different from whtat he teachers he gives you tons of hmrk and none of those problem is like the test he gives.........i wish i hadn't taken him..it was really stupid of me...........and he's very snooty...
MY FAVORITE TEACHER! HE IS AWESOME! THIS IS THE DEFENITION OF AN EXCEPTIONAL TEACHER. LOVE HIS CLASS, I RECOMMEND HIM ! He has made an impact on my life style and I thank him for it! I WISH I COULD TAKE HIS CLASS AGAIN..HE IS SO CUTE TOO !!
Do not take this teacher, even if he is the last resource. He has wierd names for procedures that the tutors had no idea what he was teaching us. We spent 1 hour the lecture watching students go up to the board and waste our time. No one was learning anything. After the first midterm, the highest grade was a 74%. He is awful. Take Bass, instea
best teacher ever!!!he is kind crazy when you go up at he boarD!!but he is hella goooooodd!but u have to work out every single problem from the hmwork!!if u need help he is there!!!
Everyone has to take this class and everyone should take it with Smith. Its a lot of information but he makes it fun. Always joking around in class. Tests and quizzes are super easy.
this teacher makes math easy, he even made me lazy doing homework because he only collects them on mondays. i have no idea why students are complaining about him not teaching the methods on the book, YOU ARE IN A MATH CLASS! there are a lot of methods of solving problems in math, and hes teaching us easier methods than the book!
He is a cool teacher and very funny. It's easy to get an A in his class. The quizes,mid- term and the final exam are easy. He will give you free answers on the mid-term and the final exam. Just pay attention and you will learn and pass the class.
the negative comments he's received are hilarious. he has his teaching style down. He has trouble arriving on time, but he tries to make up for it. he doesn't teach by the book, rather he teaches shortcuts that make learning easier. don't miss class and do the homework, and you'll do splendidly. he knows his stuff, just pay attention.
Best teacher ever! You will learn alot and enjoy his class. He has all the answers to the questions outside the textbook.
He is a cool type of guy, but as a teacher i cant say the same. He does not teach from the book and makes up his own formulas. He likes to go at his pace, and not of the students. He also loves to criticize other Math teachers, because to his knowledge, he IS the "best"
First teacher I took at City college was a terrible speaker and launched into the lesson without explanations or breaking down of the problems, but Smith was good. Did well for an intersession, although he graded too few homework problems and I heard a couple disparaging remarks made towards students. He takes zero BS, work and you will do well.
Professor Smith is an amazing teacher. His methods of perspective are razor sharp. Don't let his exams scare you as your department final can get you out of any hole you dig yourself into. His humor will have you entertained constantly as his jokes are extremely funny, and if he hurts your feelings- your too sensitive!, GET OVER YOURSELF!!
Dr. Smith is a great teacher. He's intimadating at first in order to screen out the students who aren't ready to take his class. Assigns homework and collects it every Monday. He REALLY wants his students to pass! Always there during office hours, and will explain things over and over again until you get it. He's real funny too, great jokes!!!!!
come to class and do the homewrok thats his rules> truethat good jokes with Dr. Smith and yea also true that he is the best math teacher at city. If you are a slacker dont take him if you struggle in math andwanna learn take him!!!EASY class if you do the homemork!!
I had NO Understanding of algebra before this man. I may not have done so great on City College's departmental final but I tell you what...I learned more about math than I have learned in my whole life from this amazing math professor. I am ready to take it again! The unbelieveable thing is that I could not even comprehend math before and now I do!
Very positive teacher, excellent with his knowledge, great charisma. Easy class if you pay attention and get involved with discussions. Not a minute of boredom. Love all his stories. Wonderful human being. Take this class, you'll never regret it.
Rude. Unhelpful. He is getting paid for an online class and basically wants it to run itself. If you want to teach yourself stats and pay for units that keeps people like this guy employed then go ahead... My suggestion, check out Kuniyuki for stats instead.
As of now he is no longer taking any homework and your scores are based solely on your test scores. If you aren't great at math, don't take him. If you know how to do a problem already, that's not ok, he only lets you do it his way. Good teacher if you understand already, bad teacher if you need him to do an example problem more than once.
Mr. Smith is the best teacher out there and he has so much experience in the field.he genuinely cares about the subject and does his best to keep everyone entertained. he's funny, polite, and is on your side when you have any problems!his stories are very entertaining..and he's all for empowerment of women!!!
Took him last summer...please please please don't take him unless you hate yourself. Confusing, mean, and totally unrealistic about why students are in Math 96. Take any other teacher, go the Math Lab, or drop out of school before taking this professor.
Quality of instruction way below his high expectations. He was always late, made numerous errors during lecture making note taking difficult. Often was not well prepared/familiar with lecture material. Tests a lot harder than lecture/homework. Dimisses techniques to make things easier because "that's how they do it in high school." Sometimes funny.
This guy is a terrible teacher. The methods he teaches often don't ever appear in the text. Your grade is tests and graded homework which you turn in during the test (3 per semester!). Seems like he's hung over when he's teaching.
WORST ONLINE TEACHER EVER!!! Expects the class to teach itself. All of the homework is super easy, but the tests and final are ridiculously hard!!! It doesn't make sense why you would coddle people with the hw and then make sure they fail the tests. If you want to learn, don't take this idiot!
**warning!! don't take this course unless you want to teach yourself. The take home test are almost impossible to get an A and the final is super hard you don't even get the whole time period to finish. If your not savy in math do not, did I say do not take this course you will fail! He's a nice guy though. and he dosn't take attendance.
Students, this IS NOT an easy class! I passed this class, but it took a lot of hard work. He doesnt assign homework, but does give you takehome tests in which you can use your book or a tutor for help. But, the Final Exam is extremely hard. He doesnt take attendance, but he knows if you are not there. He will drop you if you miss too many classes.
Mr. Smith is by far the worst teacher I ever had at City. Becaue of his extreme lack of competence, I had to spend another semester at City. The lessons he "teaches" will not match up with the ridiculous final--be warned. He also never knew my name or answered my emails. Avoid his class!
I agree with what everyone else has mentioned. Mr. Smith is one of the best teachers I have ever had.
I really liked Dr. Smith. He was always good about answering questions and showing alternative ways of solving problems. Very fair grader. All of the tests were take home except for the final and there was no homework. Dr. Smith was always available to answer any questions after class and during office hours. I would take him again.
DR. Smith is an excellent teacher. It's funny that at the beginning of the year the classroom is full but slowly and slowly people start to drop because the class gets 'too hard'. It's only too hard if you don't pay proper attention and take well-written notes. I think Dr. Smith is crystal clear with math and is always there to help out his student
Professor Smith's online stats course is a joke. As an instructor, it would be a complement to call him a complete mess. He was a no show at our live final exam, which being the ONLY day he had to be physically present for the course, pretty much sums up his entire teaching style: truant.
godawful teacher! 2 weeks before the end of the semester every1 in his class had an F. comes in 40 min late every day, then makes students solve probs on the board while he sits in the back of the class. picks a couple of the hardest hw ?s and grades you on those, ignores all your other work. I got Fs on all my hw even tho I had Cs on the tests.
1) Smith does not teach out of the book its a waste of time to even purchase the textbook unless your going to use it to practice 2) The class will be full at first but he accepts everyone 'cause he knows people will drop. 3) His tests are hard but when the final comes you'll be prepared if you pass his. Hes a great teacher &likes participation :)
Smith seems like he doesn't know any math. He does problems in the book on the board and gets the wrong answer almost every time once we confront him the answers aren't right he goes back to change them. He looks like a math student while he's teaching. When test day comes he makes his problem extremely hard so no one could pass it. I wouldn't have a problem with this usually but I know for a fact that he probably couldn't pass his own test. Pathetic.

Professor Smith is a very helpful and smart man. Most of the student's complain about his tests but without proper hard work how do you expect to pass them anyways? His teaching style is different but different is never bad which was hard for students to adapt too but once you understand you're good to go. I'd take him again for any math course.
There is never home work which is a trap for his text which he make himself and condsider very difficult. only 75% of his class passes. and he do not teach methods the way the book does. do not take smith unless he is the only choice unless you are a math genious
His tests ARE very difficult, but he does prepare you for them very well. He doesn't make you turn in homework, but he gives you suggested homework, and if you don't do it, don't complain when you fail! He likes you if you TRY, and ask a lot of questions. Participate and show that you want to pass. I'd take him again!
A great professor. Really passionate about math. Exams are tough but definitely prepare you for the Final. You would benefit greatly if you are a math math/engineer major.
Professor Smith's Math 96 class is very challenging. His tests are difficult, I'd say a 8/10 in range, 10 being impossible, but you get what you put in. He is willing to help you, and if you don't do well on your tests as you expected, speak to him in his office, he may "bump up" your grade if you can explain to him your mistakes.
Worst professor of my entire college career. He is very unorganized and does not assist you in any way. He might teach lower division math well, but he can not teach upper division math at all.
Great mathematician, good teacher. He will help in office hours but he wants you to work for the answer, which is fair for students taking math at this level. Test were difficult and he grades hw harshly, but he's fair. He could use a lesson in drawing 3D and he's a little sloppy on the chalkboard. If you take him, buy him some colored chalk
This class started with something like 45 people and we ended with 16. If you come to class, take good notes and actually study you will crush the tests. The class got easier towards the end. Dr. Smith was a good teacher. He goes on tangents sometimes but their almost always related to math. I learned a lot and would take him again.
Hes good at math but not very good at explaining it. He teaches straight out of his brain. I dont recommend for students who use formulas. He tells students to not show work. His tests are really hard. He shuns anyone elses techniques. Hes a good guy but poorly explains what hes doing on the board.
His Teaching doesn't follow the book or homework. He doesn't allow the use of a calculator on most tests. MEMORIZE the unit circle if you want to excell in this course. Good luck!!!
Mr. Smith is an exceptional math teacher. That being said, he expects you to do you homework, come to class, and ask him questions if you do not understand. He is very enthusiastic about his teaching and covers everything that is on his tests, even giving pre-tests before each test. If you are looking to get something out of math, take him!

Hw is based out of the book but not taught from it. Slang and lack of text in the lectures was the greatest hindrance. Once you learn it one way from the text, he teaches it by "other" methods. I am a focused student and have taken equally challenging math classes with A grade's. 15 of 45 students made it to finals. ukwn passed. needs to prime stds
The professor is always rushing and he is confusing. for example, if you read the book before class, he will explain the a new chapter differently. He makes a lot of mistakes. Student who did good in the class don't rely on him because they know that they aren't rely on him to pass the class. If you care about you time, please don't take him. Bad!
Good mathematician but not the better of the teaching lot. His grading policy is unorthodox, and down-right unreasonable when it comes to homework. Tests are moderately challenging if you pay attention, study, and do all the hw, otherwise pft. Doesn't "do" grade curves. No extra credit. Not an easy class. Also, an incredible amount of tangents.
I took Professor Smith for both Math 46 & Math 96 and taking him for 119 or 116. he was a great teacher i rarely showed up to class and i passed both classes. he teaches a little different from the book but his way of teaching is more logical. his tests are on what he lectures. if you need help he is very helpful in his office hours.
He teaches his own way which is different than book but it is much clearer and helpful. He puts up math examples at the beginning of class for students to doanswer if possible, he then goes over explains step by step on how to solve. He also puts up exactly the type of problems on pretest you will find on test. Dont slack off and you'll be fine.
Dr. Smith is best for smart hard-working students who love a challenge, enjoy a good laugh, and don't need to have the book read to them. His calculus lessons began my study of calculus and analysis that culminated in a Phd. Through the years his class stands out as one of the best! He even took the time to help me when it was time to transfer!
I took this class reading these reviews and I'm glad it didn't stop me from taking him. This class is not easy, but as long as you participate, ask questions and show up to his office hours for extra help you will pass. Don't take it if you're not willing to give your 100% personally loved his class.
This professor doesn't follow the math book. he uses his own ideas for solving the math problems. His tests are very hard and the first day of school the class was full then half way in thru the semester the class was almost empty that's how hard his test are.
This class isn't for everyone, lectures and hw inconsistent with tests. Gives 5 take home tests with a week to finish (70% grade), and its impossible to finish it in one sitting without independent research. Material on these tests would be ahead of the class, and he arrives at the wrong answer. Practice finishing in 2 hrs. A into final became C.
He was not helpful at all , homework and test didn't correspond with each other, try to avoid him.
Good guy, he doesn't curve tests, his tests sometime cover material he didn't, and are very difficult to do in the allotted time. That said, he gives you what's on the test, it's somewhat misleading because they're much harder than HW questions of same type. Biggest complaint is that he is unfocused more often then not, and rushes material.
He is a cool guy and super funny (dry and sarcastic). He made learning the material interesting and fun. I will definitely take another class with him if I get the chance. Pay attention in class and do the homework. Professor Smith will explain anything that is unclear to you, all you need to do is ask.
Homework is +20 points to test, two midterms and final. During lecture Prof. Smith rambles and runs off track, refuses to do specific examples, loves to copy definitions. Unbelievably loose structured class. Would never take again.
Loves to brag about his intelligence, is not very approachable, hardly mentioned his office hours availability, also never offered to help outside class. He didn't explain material well, very vague, often got his own work wrong while teaching. Homework wasn't required but if you did it he counted it as bonus points on tests.
You're pretty much on your own with this man. He does the bare minimum as a teacher.
Often didn't get the problems right. He Doesn't explain material thoroughly. You have to figure things out on your own. Bare minimum as a teacher, does his own thing you have to keep up. Everything on the tests aren't covered during lectures...
This was the hardest math class I ever took. I was surprised about how much I learned in this class. Skim the section ahead of each class and the professor lectures will be a lot easier to understand.
Took this class a year ago. The professor's style is lecture-heavy and it was a struggle to keep up. Somehow I managed to passed the class. Now that I transferred I realize that ALL university math professor are like that AND you're in a class of 100+. Who would've thought, he was preparing us all along for COLLEGE.
Class was insanely hard. but I killed it in my next class bc I got used to his teaching stile. reading the chapter before coming to lecture helped me a lot.
Dr. Smith is a great professor. With him, you get out what you put in, it helps a lot to skim each chapter before the lecture day and to get up and practice the problems he puts on the board. His grading criteria is very clear. He has a dry, sarcastic sense of humor. 5/5 will take again.
DON'T LISTEN to bad reviews! Dr Smith is the best teacher I've ever had. Took him for 96, 116 and calculus next. He does teach from his own knowledge, not from the book but it's AMAZING bc he makes it easier to understand. He's ALWAYS available to help whenever I asked. Maths is hard, HE doesn't make it hard. You just have to put in the effort!
I will not be taking any other math courses with this professor. I was struggling in class and was treated like a moron when I asked questions.
Straight up this man just cares that you know what your doing. He doesnt care if you don't show up to class as long as you do well one the exams. He teaches his own style, which is different then the book and it can be frustrating but as long as you read ahead and pay attention in class its not bad. Hes a dry dude but he'll get you where you going.
Dr Smith is what I imagine a traditional professor is. Hes got an old school tough love approach that may or may not be your cup of tea. He expects a lot and keeps the bar super high. Very rewarding experience.
Incredible experience taking Math with this professor. I have learned more in one semester of Math than I have in the entirety of my academia leading up to this point. Far and away the hardest professor I have ever had, but with the tricks I have learned I feel like I can crush any Math class after his. Would recommend to ANYONE.
If I could give advise to his new students, take notes in class and go somewhere immediately after class, review, summarize and write down example problems. His lectures are awesome, comprehensive and easy to understand but his tests are hard. Use both your pretest, notes, example problems & challenging homework problems to study for your test.
Professor Smith is the best math teacher I have ever had. Anyone who says his class and test are difficult or unreasonable simply did not put in the effort he requires. Homework is not mandatory but counts as extra credit. He was always happy to help and answers questions during his office hours.
Professor Smith is a less than typical Professor. Every day he would come into class with a scrap piece of paper with a few notes scribbled onto and try to lecture off, leture was unorganized, and tests were very hard. Overall a professor that just wants to do the minimum amout of work and not help his students.
After the pandemic it became more helpful to understand better the term of Precalculus. Try to take this class.
He's a great math teacher. I really liked taking my math class with him, he's very understanding, cheerful, and if you need help or have a question he will make sure to answer it.
Very good! Very straightforward! Gives you 2 attempts on exams & is available for questions outside of class. I would definitely recommend!
He means well and is kind, however his teaching methods were awful. It may be due to online lectures. Hed often teach material for the first time in lectures after we already tested on it, so be prepared to teach yourself. We did get 2 attempts per test, and HW could be done at any time throughout the class dates. Easy class, but rough lectures.
DO NOT TAKE A CLASS WITH THIS JOKE. Literally no itinerary, no schedule. Just uses Pearson for homework and tests. No announcements as to when exams will be. nothing, no communication just weak office hours no one has time for. He doesnt even make his own lectures, random videos on youtube. He should be let go, IMMEDIATELY.
He is a nice guy... but nice does not fill your brain with knowledge. He makes up his lectures before class, or ON THE SPOT. He will give an example, only to realize he did it incorrectly half way, wasting everyone's time when he could have been prepared. he needs to retire. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS. MAKE MATH VERY COMPLICATED, I UNLEARNED EVERYTHING
If you talk to him for office hrs, show work, or ask a question when you need, he'll make sure you have a passing grade. He doesn't allow you to use the graphing function on your calculators for your test. It is honestly, the best thing for you once you take calculus. If you struggle in this course, I suggest taking an algebra refresher course.
awful class, no teaching ,no learning then nothing. just waste your money and your time. I'm so regret why I didn't drop this class when I realized Mr. Manfred is not responsible Professor and his class is just Pearson with different and wired questions even this online class was totally different than the online classes that have had so far.
I honestly didn't reach out to the professor at all during this course. The material is organized and clear. You are allowed 2 attempts for each test( 4 tests total plus final). Make sure to interact and do HW or you will get dropped from the course.
Definitely more old school with his teaching but he takes the time to really explain why everything is the way it is, which is important in mathematics... No notes or calculators on tests because of this so pay attention during lectures and take notes obvi. Has due dates for his homework assignments but is flexible on turning it in late.
Dr. Smith is an old-school professor who applies traditional teaching methods in combination with an online Math Lab. He covers a lot of equations and material in class so it helps to attend and take notes. Overall a good precalculus teacher.
Do not take this math 150 class. I should have dropped it a long time ago. Does not communicate with his students at all throughout the semester. Unfair grading and just gives you an online course.
Professor Smith relied solely on MyLab and YouTube videos to teach the curriculum. His syllabus illustrated a policy that if a student was not able to pass the final then they could not pass the class. I went into the final with a very high A, achieved through lots of studying and great scores on all the Midterm tests, and failed due to the final.
Professor Smith is passionate about teaching the beauty of mathematics. I am now well-prepared for any math courses in the future.
You are allowed to turn in homework until the last day of the semester. Your grade is primarily based on Test scores. Does NOT prepare you well for tests. Don't count on the pre-test being like the real tests. Often loses focus and lectures off-topic. Nice Professor but would DEFINITELY NOT take his class again.
Very rude to students. You learn nothing during lectures and basically teach yourself the subject. He should not be teaching.
please choose another professor. It's all lecture, half of the time he doesn't know what he's talking about. The students correct him most of the time; whenever you missed a test he makes you feel guilty and makes you feel dumb and with that one missed test he fails you all the way and basically tells you to re-do the class for next semester.
Professor Smith takes a traditional approach, but his lessons are worthwhile. Stay engaged, take notes, and use resources like unstuck AI to supplement your learning. Tests are challenging, but he'll work with you if you put in the effort.
I initially thought this professor was nice, but he was dismissive when I asked for help, claiming the material was “easy” without offering guidance. He also suggested I drop the class, even though I was doing okay. Additionally, he made a political remark about voting for a specific candidate , which felt inappropriate for the classroom.
This professor assigns homework on material he hasn't covered in class, and will only cover it after the homework has been turned in. The lectures become redundant, because doing the homework means learning the topic on your own. His math is so difficult to follow that showing up to school is a waste of time. If I could give him 0 stars, I would.
He is a good person but a bad teacher. Disorganized lectures, unclear grading on exams, and we were graded on a whole midterm and a few assignments short. During lectures he would often go onto tangents or attempt an example that would take up half of class time, then realize at the end that he had made a mistake somewhere or had written it wrong.
Horrible. Needs to be fired
Very disorganized lectures, inconsistent grading on homework and tests, doesn't cover all the material for tests. He'll purposefully be disorganized when teaching, and hard to follow when lecturing just so he makes sure we "don't memorize the material" and that we "really think about it". More than half the class dropped. However, he is a nice guy.
Prof. Smith is a very caring and nice person but a terrible teacher. He lessons are very unorganized and he does not teach in a manner so that students can understand. Be prepared to teach yourself everything outside of class. The assigns HW and tests on material that was not covered in class. If you must take his class then fine but try to avoid.
Dr. Smith teaches very well but doesn't plan the content as well, I took the Trigonometry (math 104) over summer, 8 weeks. Would reccomend taking his class but attendance is very important, can't get homework or in-class work without attending. (At least 2/3 of the class failed the final,
Took online class, couldn't figure it out, figured it out, he doesnt actually teach the class, its paid for, mandatory attendance, online textbook mandatory (will not allow you to submit any assignments otherwise) ($96) must spend 8 hours a week on homework alone and 4 hours on lecture videos
His lectures and class structure sets students up for failure. He is very concept/theory focused and only uses examples from his imagination which never work out to anything. Only assigns HW in class, due before class ends. You'll end up teaching yourself everything and if you skip a class with a hw assignment, you may drop half a grade. Avoid.
Not helpful at all. Fully online course, made us depend only on the Pearson material and did not post anything on canvas at all. Basically self taught which wouldn't have been an issue, but the few questions I emailed about were not answered and told to look in the book and search online resources. Definitely avoid if possible.
