Her test are not easy and she doesn't give homework. She give one project and she count on attendance alot. She is very helpful and give some chance to student to bring their grade up.

She is a great professor because she shows alot of passion in her lectures and totally knows her stuff. Sometimes she is very uptight which kind of makes you not very focued in class but overall she is a great professor.

Holy crap, worked my ass off in this class to keep up and stay ahead. Need to participate and work hard in this class. Her tests are no joke. But all that aside shes a fantastic teacher. Caring and understanding. Got an A in her class lols work hard and she'll reward you. She knows her stuff so dont think you can bs your way through.
She is nice a prof. but you need to be good in taking notes cause she don't really write on the board. At first u'll feel that she is a very hard prof. but later on she turns out to be easy. Just show your effort and you will be fine.(don't ever try to talk over her otherwise you r gone)
very hard class, very smart teacher, knows what shes talking about it, knows when your full of crap, you cant just bs an answer. you works with you, you have to work your ass off, i did and i got an A. If you dont want to work, dont take this class
The best teacher I have ever had since coming to BMCC. She is extremely diligent in her teaching and NO NONSENSE!!! She pushed me and made me see that I can be an excellent student if I exert myself. Her bark is worse than her bite. She may seem to be a bit rough around the edges, but once you get to know her, you'll see she's a sweetheart!
Although she is very smart, informative, and gives excellent notes and information, she plays favorites. If you don't want to be talked down to and constantly compared to her more advanced students at Columbia, choose another professor.
Gives a lot of notes. Very helpful and caring professor. Yes you do need to study your butt off for her exams due to the number of notes given, but she is very fair and although exams are not straightforward, they have no surprises either. Sometimes she can be unorganized, but all in all I like her a lot and enjoy her class.

If you are not ready to work, skip her. But she is probably the best Prof. I have ever had. She is tough but she loosened up towards the end of the semester. I recommend her to anyone.
Proefessor Pavel is an excellent teacher. she gives you a lot of notes and her grading system is pretty hard, but she is there for her students if you need her. shes wants to pass her students, but u must attend every class cause you need those notes. she lightens up towards the end of the semester so dont take her too seriously.

She is s smart professor but she is beyond tough. I cant count the times I cried over this class because even though I liked her as a person I didn?t get what she was teaching.
from day 1 she lets u kno she no joke n if u want u can change sections or drop! she only cares about the students who try. she hard but @ the same time she a nice person who u can talk 2. go 2 her office hrs she encourages it 4 a reason!O yea take gud notes n study them cuz those r wat will help u pass the class in the end!
I just started the semester with her but does she really teaches at columbia with that accent? She has a strong accent, and seems pretty hard-grader.
Very hard professor. From the first day she tells you what you can expect of her. Be prepared to write a lot in this class. Sometimes she's not clear on certain topics but overall she's nice and just cares about teaching and the success of her students. The exams are multiple choice once and the rest are fill in the blanks. She's HARD but FAIR!
She sucks!!! Don't take her, she doesn't teach anything, She doesn't explain, she reads from the book all the time, and basically she is a horrible professor.
OK, I admit Professor Pavel knows her stuff. But her teaching techniques are tough, she really wants you to dig down and think. Yes! Her tests are hard, no make ups, no dropping the lowest grades, and no (if so rarely) reviews. On a high note, no homework. Basically you get what you work for!

By far the WORST professor of my life!!! very incoherent and doesn't bother to repeat herself although she has a strong accent. Needs to be taught how to respect others and how NOT to demean people.Very rude, doesn't give chances for questions and teaches through very fast verbatim.Tests are EXTREMELY hard!! It's only been a few weeks, but so far she is my favorite professor. She has high expectations and pushes her students because she wants them to learn. If you read like you're supposed to, you'll do fine. I couldn't ask for a better professor. I highly recommend her.

Although at the beginning she was hard, but later she adjusted her teaching style and gave us more easier exam. She is very nice and willing to help students. She always willing to talk to students. But she is mean, as long as you are willing to learn, you will get a good grade!

she is very tough so if you are not willing to learn you should not take her. the tests are really hard, but if you study really study hard you will be fine. take advantage of office hours. it is one of the only classes that I have taken that I felt that I was tought by a real prof.

OMG!! I love this professor. Since day one she has been straight foward with what she expected.I think people fail to realize this is college and professors should not have to spoon feed you.She is very helpful when you need her and very understanding. She is really helpful , and is willing to answer all questions. But Does not like to be interupeted. so be prepared to jot down questions as the class goes. The class is based on majority of her lecture notes so be sure to be detailed. As long as you show effort and interest you should be fine

This is my favorite Bio professor by far because she breaks it down so well to the point where a child would understand the material. I have taken many Bio classes and this one I enjoyed the most. She is tough but fair. She has a way of teaching where she stimulate your brain to think. You can see the passion she has for her profession. I didn't need to read the book because her lectures were very well structured. You will do okay if you review her notes everyday.

Pof. Pavel is extremely knowledgeable, helpful & compassionate. She is always willing to help us if we are facing extenuating circumstances. She motivates us to learn and has great teching styles. She dresses very well. I recommend her to any one who needs to learn Biology.
I took her bio majors course. This is a very strict professor and she will push you to your limit. If you take her class, consider this your "main class". A lot of work, a lot of confusion if you don't keep your eyes open. You should drop her class if you can't take the heat. This class requires dedication. This is a real university-level class.

On overhead, one term was cut off - told us to forget that one - did not know it herself, but expects you to memorize reams of paper. She is nice but not good at teaching.There is lab quiz before every lab. Why a prof can give us lab quiz without any lecture on it? The lab is such a mess,very unprepared and unorganized.She couldn't guide students to finish lab activity.I doubt if she prepare for the lab.Her lecture also unprepared, she only read her powerpoint.

Prof. Pavel takes time to break down the coursework to a very comprehensive level and is very thorough. She encourages students to prepare for classes beforehand and is always available to answer any questions. I really enjoyed Bio 110 and you will do well in her class as long as you want to learn and you're willing to participate.

Even though I got an "A" in the class, I give it a 1 on easy because Biology is not an easy subject. No matter how great the professor, she can't makes certain things easy. But she will help as much as she can. She will always be available during her office hours and grades very fairly. I think I would've gotten a B at most but she curves. Awesome!

She's not easy, but she will help you if you come to her. Be polite and sincere and she will do everything in her power to help you. It's rare to find this genuine of an educator at a community college. She really gives her all.
Professor Pavel can come off as rude and disrespectful. She has very high expectations, sometimes seemingly too high. This being said, if you do the work, and see her after class with SPECIFIC questions, she might help you. It all honestly depends on her mood.

I do not recommend to take Professor Pavel if you are not ready to learn on your own. And even if you are, you may still get a bad grade. She is not a fair grader, her class is not well structured and her labs are the worst, so unorganized.
One of the worst professors af BMCC by far. Tenure is abused by people such as this excuse. If you ask for help and she doesn't feel like helping you she will cut your grade. If she likes you she will help you, if you don't amuse her or show any use she will shut you out. NEVER TAKE THIS CLASS WITH HER UNLESS YOU LIKE PAIN. Wasted hours of my life.

Avoid her if you can. She gets upset when you ask a question. When she ask the class questions and get the answer wrong, she'll yell at the whole class claiming that we don't care to study. Goes over the material very fast and expects you to learn everything in one day. Didn't drop the class because I already bought the text book that we didn't use
She is tough on the exterior but she is nice on the inside. Started off not liking her class at all because I thought she was so rude. But thoughout the semester you can definitely tell she cares. The class itself had some hard tests but try not to let her scare you. I didn't even buy the textbook. I only bought the lab manual and that worked fine.
Professor Pavel is WONDERFUL! Yes, she seems very in her lecture but its because SHE CARES! She want you to learn and succeed, she helps you analysis the material rather than you memorizing it (which won't help). She is there for you, just go to her at her office hours and learn!! She has so much energy in her lecture and does her best to help you!
A lot of informative lectures. Labs are fun and correlates well with lectures to let students understand more clearly. Attendance is a must! Strict and clear, in a respective way. She wants you to learn and know your stuff rather than memorize.
Clear from day one, read material & keep up with it, do not be late and is tough with attendance. Not a class i would take again ... alot of print outs that are mandatory to bring to class that are like 30 pages long, labs are crappy and deducts points from you for anything. She pushed one person in my class to faint. Save yourself the trouble/stress and take another professor.
I had Prof. Pavel for an ASAP Block intro session before BIO 210. She was great. Biology is hard, that's what it comes down to. Every Professor is tough but fair in Biology.
I have never felt so unsecure in a class before (not even the hardest ones). Her grading is ridiculous! Even if you have the right answer (from the text book) she will mark it wrong. She wants it EXACTLY how she said it in class. IT IS STILL THE SAME ANSWER! this lady truly wasn't born to teach. Everyone has different ways of seeing things.
Yes she is a tough grader and is very hard on her students cause she wants us to succeed. If you take her I recommend that after you learn something in her class read that topic over that same day. It's very helpful in memorizing. Overall she's a great professor, on the first day she was straight forward on what to expect of her class.
Prof. Pavel brings the best of you! She truly cares of her students. Might be a little intimidating at the beginning. Just make sure to review her notes daily and participate. Go prepare to class everyday. She Aknowledge those who wants to succeed. A very smart and genuine lady. Super funny as well. Her exams are exactly what she teach in class!
Terrible professor and horrible person! She runs with the material she only lecture for hours and expects you to write down everything (plus she has thick accent which obviously not her problem but doesn't make it any easier), she will mock you in front of the entire class if you don't know to answer her questions and she will never explain. DONT!
She is awesome, yes she is tough but you can tell that she cares. The only problem with her I had was that when you ask a question she'll bust your chops about it (gotta have thick skin with her) which I didn't mind, but I would prefer if she explained why your reasoning was wrong then corrected you. Overall a great teacher though.

Pavel refuses to explain and articulate the course material. She doesn't take kindly to students who want to learn the material. I spoke to Pavel during her office hours about reevaluating my quiz grade because she boosted some of the students grades. Regrettably, she threatened me by lowering everyone's grades because I approached her about it.
For the love of all that is holy, AVOID HER AT ALL COST! DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS! She's a terrible professor. Easily the worst professor I've had in my entire academic career. I'm talking from Pre-K until now; she's by far the worst. She's dismissive, combative, and she drones on. Any question asked will be meet with "it's common sense" replies. NAH!

Professor Pavel was fairly good professor, just make sure to stay on her good side, if you need to speak to her about a question or concern, don't force or raise your voice, make sure you get those quiz grades, lab reports and master biology , they add up, and always study from textbooks! She's sweet if you stay sweet, her mood depends on you.

Definitely one of the worst professors I've had at Bmcc. She made the class way more difficult than she had too. The difficult part is her attitude she is very rude, mean etc. I got stuck with her because I'm not a science major. If you get stuck with her drop her or receive your c-, horrible that those are your choices

When I first began the semester I was unsure about continuing the class because of how difficult it was. But, that was my fault bc I didn't read up on lectures or the labs. As soon as I started to read up on everything, I understood everything and things became easier. Aside from that Prof. Pavel seems so serious but she's actually veryyy nice.

I am presently in the class and I know that this course is not easy. Prof. Pavel has posted all the lecture power point slides, Review questions and a very informative sheet explaining clearly the grading requirements. She encourages us to come to her office hours. She seems to be a very caring Professor.
I took the class in Summer, even though it was a 7 week course Prof. Pavel prepared us very well for the course. She explains the chapters in depth and is very knowledgeable. Prof. understands us if we are faced with difficult situations & tries to resolve it. I have never found any other Prof, in the college who has tried to help students .

I took professor manita pavel lab and lecture both(108,109).she was an amazing teacher helped me the whole semester. Also she teaches many interesting thing from the lesson that can apply in your life. Very easy class you will pass easily and if you want an A you have to work little harder.
Tough grader but has tremendous knowledge. Very fair in grading, always available to students. Very strict with attendance.
She is very rude and will embarrass you in front of the class. Do not ask questions she will yell at you . Become her favorite this will give you a chance to get a passing grade . Never look her in the eyes .
This class was my worst nightmare, I was constantly stressed and would always be knocked down. She doesn't like interruptions during lecture so If you have a question about anything you have to wait, she jams multiple chapters into one lecture. She will help if you go to her office hours but your best is never enough.
If you love your life please dont chose her.

Professor Pavel is an amazing teacher with an extensive passion and motivating passion as a professor and Dr. She will be tough on notes but paying attention is key as it all binds together in the end. she is very understanding and will explain in detail if you ask respectfully. Excellent professor. Best at BMCC.
She is a very talented person, but she doesnt understand that everyone is on the same path as her. She did try to help out towards the end for the whole class to pas but it wasnt even worth it. Shes never clear about what shes saying and YOU CAN NEVER ASK A QUESTION. If your trying to pass then this isnt the right place for you.
Prof Pavel is a nice lady. With that being said, she can snap at students for asking questions or requesting that she slow down or repeat herself. Because of her accent, she's genuinely hard to understand. And if you come late to her labs she gives you an automatic zero for the day. She requires you spell everything correct or its a zero
I had Professor pavel for this past semester, and I'll be honest, I was really worried how it would go because of previous reviews that I read from before. But in my personal experience she is one the best professors I've had since coming to BMCC. She truly cares for her students if you put in the work and show effort she will definitely help you .

Proffeser Pavel is very accommodating when it comes to emergencies. You have to listen to directions on assignments very carefully too, she doesn't take late work (no matter the reason). Very picky with wording: "Biology is the study of all living things" she will mark as wrong, "Biology is the study of all living organisms" would be correct.
I had her last year but I still can't forget how horrible she was. She was my worst nightmare. I felt like I couldn't breath whenever I had her class. She gets so angry whenever someone asks a question. I tried so hard for this class that I only focused on this class. Yet I passed my other classes with all A but for hers I failed.
On the first day of class this Prof asked "What is the area of a square?" then proceeded to berate a student who answered LxW because she said it was "Clearly Side Squared" and then told us the area of a rectangle is LxW! When I asked why the sides of the square were not considered length and width she told me I was not scientifically minded!! DONE
DO NOT TAKE HER. once we were in lab and i was talking to my table about the work she gave me a nasty look. i ignored her then we were waiting for the timer to go off so we can check our test tubes. while waiting we were all just talking she picked on me and said "you dont know how to be quiet all you did was talk for the whole class" AVOID HER
I was hesitant about having Prof Pavel because of the mixed reviews. However, after taking her course this summer I can say she is a solid choice. In regards with the pandemic, she is understanding and gives you the opportunity to improve. She can be meticulous when it comes to answering her questions on tests but overall they are easy.
Not sure why Professor Pavel has such poor ratings here. Her exams are straightforward and easy. She is meticulous about wording but that's just for the good of the students. If you pay attention, take notes, complete your assignments, and are respectful, you should be able to get an A. Try to get on her good side.
Honestly the worst professor ever!! She does not fully explain herself and she is very rude. I honestly do no know how she is a professor. When you ask a question she WILL get mad BEWARE!! and you cannot even miss a day or two because she will try to remove you from her class. I DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS!
It gets very frustrating when i try to understand the course when her hand writing is very sloppy. she gets upset when a question is asked. when she asks a question she always says its wrong and gives the same answer in different words. she make it hard to understand the course.
Spends too much time berating you for not knowing something. Answer a question wrong and it's 10min of her telling you that you don't think & aren't listening instead of teaching. She doesn't get this is rude/discouraging. But if everyone in the class is confused then it might be her. She is also VERY BAD w/technology which makes the class worse.
Do not take her, she does not teach. you will answer a question correctly she will say you are wrong or mark it wrong, even when you bring it up with proof and evidence she refuses to admit she is wrong. I'm pretty sure whatever good reviews are here was her.

Firstly, she has a pretty thick accent which makes a difficult subject like Biology, much more complicated. Lastly, it seems that she finds pleasure in confusing you on exams. As if she wants you to fail. She will bring up how her Science major students have more complex things to remember, but she'll expect you to do the same. She is sweet though.

It's laughable how bad this class. She is so unorganized, rude, does not care about individual students, teachers from "her brain," doesn't follow a curriculum, the list goes on. the prof. does not make the class interesting or fun just 2 hours of lecture. she doesn't like q&a's or interruptions. her accent is heavy and handwriting makes it hard to follow along. i'm thankfully enough to be in an amazing group chat and chegg has helped me a lot. i'm happy this is only a 7 wk course. a semester whole would b horrible.
Prof Pavel really cares about her students learning the material. She would repeat things in multiple ways with different examples so that we would all understand. Matter of fact, I think she made the class too easy for us. She listened to our concerns - like we asked her to change stuff on LaunchPad and she did. I would take another class with her

She constantly tells you that you, "Did not listen," when you don't understand but you clearly did listen. She contradicts herself. She is hella rude and the class is just overall a mess. She struggles with technology but doesn't compromise with a student who is having technical problems. She is gonna ruin my gpa this semester.
Terrible. She made bio so unenjoyable bc of her monotone lectures, unclear lab assignments, lack of communication (doesnt respond to emails), and excessive grading for participation (more than 10% of grade). i learn best on my own, so i didnt really go to lecture, but her participation grade forced me to show up sometimes.
Very understanding and accommodating Professor, During The Pandemic, she was very lenient and understanding towards me. Considering I had a lot of issues this past semester, She definitely made sure I catches up with everything.
She does not respond to emails, is abrasive and quite frankly rude. Her feedback is unproductive and she often misses opportunities to educate by glossing over your concerns and refusing to explain things in a manner that is understandable to you. She does not accommodate for different learning styles at all. Even my advisor warned me about her.
Honestly she gets a bad rap. Yeah she doesn't explain that good and sure she could be nicer but to me if you actually get to know her she's pretty cool. Anyways I like her but I am honestly glad I'm out her class. All I can say is do the work and get close to your classmates trust me it'll help when you have no idea what you're suppose to do.
Prof. Pavel was very understanding as i was having a lot of family issues. She is very considerate and explained the lecture information that I missed. I recommend other students to take her course as she explains the information clearly & teaches us study techniques that helps with retaining the information
She explained the difficult topics in a simplified way. She provided power point slides as well as her notes that enabled me to understand the topics easily. Prof. Pavel keeps explaining the topic and wants the students to understand and learn the material. She is very compassionate, understanding and caring. i enjoyed her course.
Honestly if you are doing an epermit do not take her class, worse professor ever , does not communicate with the students and she dont even try to help you how to figure things out. A whole mess
This class has been the hardest class, I had to ever take and she doesn't make it easy. Professor Pavel speak to you in a rude matter and she makes slick comments and sometimes favor certain students if you need a science to pass for graduated don't take care and if you had a high gpa before her class stay clear worst professor in the world.
I took Professor Pavel for BIO 111 LAB and tbh, she wasn't that bad. She gave us extra time to complete labs, her tests were based off the lab manual/notes she gave us so they were easy. If we had any questions during the lab she would help out. STUDY EVERYTHING FOR TESTS cause they're unpredictable. Can be snarky but not always.
If you are someone who struggles with language, I advise you to choose a different class. While professor M. is very kind, her teaching skills were challenging for me and hard to comprehend. She is very difficult to please, so for those who need this class to graduate, she is a hard grader and her work can be hard to follow.

Prof. Pavel encourages us to come to her office during hours. She is always willing to offer assistance and is available 3 times a week in her office. She motivates us to learn and not memorize. I will definitely recommend my friends to take her course.

You will do well in her class if you are a regular student and serious about your study. You can try to do all your homework on time, answer her questions, and pay attention to class. She will give you A. She gave her own PowerPoint and prentice questions to prepare for the exam, which is pretty common in the exam.
TERRIBLE she does not teach, and tells you what will be on exam which ends up being the complete opposite!
Her learning style is like this: ask a bunch of questions to lead you to an answer in her head that you might not know, ridicule you when you get that wrong several times, be disappointed you haven't 'read up' (meaning watch 10 hours of her reading the text book to you on youtube) and then wonder why you don't understand the material.
Just save your time and Monday and do not pick her as your professor . If you're taking a lab with her be prepared before hand because she doesn't like answering questions . She'll make you feel embarrassed for asking and she is a tough grader. Your lab reports have to be just the way she likes them . Shes kind of rude also. Just be prepared .

Looking at previous reviews, it seems like she has a pattern of exclaiming that each of her classes is by far the worst group she's ever had. She's insulting, belittling, and not good at teaching. I read these reviews in preparation for the semester, and I underestimated my capacity to deal with such verbal attacks! I ended up dropping this course.

I'm usually one to take rates lightly, and at first I did. Took her async, only saw her in lab and that was enough. She's condescending, never admits when she's wrong, and argued that 100s aren't real because “no one's perfect.” Yet she acts like she is. I wasn't ready, and I wouldn't recommend unless you enjoy stress.
This professor is disorganized and unpredictable. Labs often don't go as planned, and she grades extremely harshly. She puts students down instead of encouraging them, and you're mostly left to teach yourself. If you read the textbook and keep up with the Pearson homework, you'll do well, but the class overall was stressful and discouraging.
Horrible professor who cannot teach at all and grades people based on how much she likes them. A friend I know got similar grades to me in all the exams and the homework assignments, etc. But she ended up passing with an A- and I only got a C-.
Not an easy A; I think I got the grade mainly because I sucked up to her. I attended all of her lectures and office hours, and I participated like crazy. If you aren't prepared to keep on top of your work and participate, then I suggest dropping because I feel like in this class you can't really fall behind, but maybe thats just me.
This professor does not explain stuff. Asking questions was a big no-no for her. Raising your hand, you have to provide the exact answer she is thinking about. If you take this course, get ready to rely on videos, try learning every little vocabulary word, and make sure all the assignments are perfect or thrown out.
Overall, she does not take into consideration students' efforts and comes off very harshly. At the end of the day, we are in an environment to learn and grow. However, she expects us to just know everything and does not appreciate being asked questions.
I had to retake BIO 210 due to personal circumstances, so having prior knowledge I knew the course workload and was prepared for it. I made the mistake of not checking here before taking this class with professor pavel. Do not take this course, I repeat do not take this course. Every single bad review is 100% correct. I fear she will mess up my gpa
Prof. Pavel wasn't clear on many things and wouldn't go by her own syllabus. She was very unprofessional as she disliked answering questions about biology during lab nor lectures. She expected her students to know the answers to her random questions. Many students failed, only 6 out of 24 students had passed with a curve.
