Shes terrible! Very unclear all of her anwsers to what she says are open ended come from the "teachers edition" She grades on like or dis like and does not follow the syllabus. In fact she threw it out completely. She talks about students in other classes and is really just a mean person.
Horrible horrible horrible! Very hard to understand, not clear on answers at all. Takes roll every day and if you miss more than 5 classes she automatically drops you and fails you. I do NOT recommend her! Booo
Accent is VERY hard to decipher at first. This lady is clueless. She changes her instructions COMPLETLEY every day. But I'm a good writer so I'm making it in her class. She can seem very mean, but she will let you make up assignments. She's trying...but man she's dumb.
She is the best writing teacher ever. Ive heard of many other teachers and Manjit kaur is by far the best teacher at UTSA. I have a B in her class and thats cause im horrible at writing. Dont listen to anyone else. They're all haters!
Mrs. Kaur is a very good teacher. She helps me when I need help. Her accent doesn't make her hard to understand. If you need help and ask her, she will help you. She is nice, too.
Professor Kaur was hard to understand at first, but you get used to her accent after a while.
If you attend class and take the time to read short stories, the class is very easy. It is not difficult to impress Mrs. Kaur, but if she likes you, you'll have a slight advantage. If you never miss class, you get lots of points during final grading. She's funny if you get used to her.
Although her accent is a bit difficult to understand in the beginning, you get used to it after awhile. You have to do readings, and participate in class, but in the end you will be rewarded with the grade that you strive for in the class. I enjoyed her class a lot. You have to make friends with her in order to have a slight advantage. Good prof.
she is a very nice lady, if you just ask for help. her material wasnt hard and she was extremely leniate on deadlines
Nice teacher. Helpful, when you ask for help.
she's a pretty good and lieniant teacher but she has a nasty personality at times where she has to be right with everything
She is consistantly changing the syllabus, and is very unclear on rules for essays, and how she likes them written. She's pretty cool and lenient with deadlines though.
Shes way to hard and doesnt know what shes talking about... great at the beginning, but gone down hill ever since
After having an awesome teacher for 1013, Mrs. Kaur was very dissapointing. Blamed her past pregnancy for her horrible organization. Sylabus was completly wrong and not changed untill last minute.
I think she is a good teacher, wants you to do the work the rigth way, and is helpful when asked.
Very helpful teacher. I certainly learned a lot.
Mrs. Kaur was great. It's a little hard to get past the accent at first, but she really gave off good vibes. She made all the assignments really clear and helped us out with group work. She always let you know what was going on in her family and made you feel at home in her class. I strongly recommend. I wish I woulda taken wrc 1023 with her.
She's very nice and funny but is strict on grading essay's. She expects you to write "perfect" argument papers. If you are naturally good in writing then you'll do fine.
I really disliked this teacher. She is extremely tough in grading, not one person in my class had an A. Once you start out with a C on a paper, she will label you and its hard to get better grades. I do not recommend her.
I signed up for this teacher based on the previous reviews left here by students. It turns out she changed her teaching and grading style from Fall '05 to Spring '06. Anyway, she grades _extremely_ tough and once she's given you a grade for your first paper, it's hard to get a better one. I recommend taking someone else.
I regret signing up for this class. I should have looked at this website before enrolling in this class. Her grading procedure is preposterous and expects everyone to write perfectly. Not one person in my class has an A...and i have no idea what her problem is. Don't take this professor at all...unless you want a blemish on yourr transcript.
she doesn't explain things very well and if you don't get it, she isn't the best to ask for help. I had to go to my high school teacher to make sure I understood what my college teacher was saying.
I think she is a good teacher, and helpful too.
This lady was ridiculous.Eng is my forte(bc I suck at the math part of life)& I loved it in high school.I have never had a worse english teacher in my life. Her stupidity became even more clear as the days went on.She has NO idea what she's doing, is extr. close-minded, and is comp. disorganized. She made my first semester hell, AVOID at all costs!!
I agree this class could be very confusing. I learned quite a bit & think that Prof. Kaur loves teaching and her students. I wish that there would have been more time devoted to a single solid method. I feel like I could have learned more with clearer instruction of how to develop a thesis other than the basic method we were given at the begining
Best English teacher here so far. she's really nice and helpful. i def. recommend her. i have no idea what these people are talking about
Ms. Kaur is a great professor. You must attend, and pay close attention. Very fair in grading papers, and even gives the chance to attempt a better grade on an paper that you have attempted in the course. She is a bit hard to understand at first because of her accent, but work through it, and you will see that she is a great professor.
This class always put me in a bad mood-- do not take it at 8am lol. The grading is really strange, I never figured it out. It seemed like she picked who she wanted to have an A, B, C, etc.. I got a B, luckily. I didnt like this class because your grades were based on her opinion and nothing concrete. Not many grades either.
would not reccomend taking a class
I totally love this woman! She is a beautiful speaker and it helps that she is easy on the eyes. She grades harshly but fairly. I was totally hesitant in taking a writing class in the first place but not I regret not taking a class sooner. Even if attendance wasn't mandatory, I would show up every day!!
Professor Kaur is a great teacher definately recommend her. Though A's are not easy, I have an 85,the third highest grade and the highest was a 89. She's a great teacher she's helpful and fun and doesn't fail anyone but don't take advantage of that. Attendence is MANDATORY but it's fun and she's understanding if you miss a few. TAKE HER FOR A FUN B
Professor Kaur made writing very interesting and was very helpful, she would give you one redo paper if you goofed up! wanted to take her again for fresh comp II but class was full.
the worse teacher ever, never gives a's to anyone, no matter how hard you work she wil always give u the same grade, work only on the indtroduction cause that is all she reads and never kill urself on a paper cause she will always give u the same grade because she already knows ur style of writing
I took her online class. The quizzes are easy and if you participate in the discussions (which are only like once a month) you get points. However, I busted my ass on my papers only to receive C's and then I started slacking and started to get B's..? She has a strange way of grading.
Professor Kaur is a good instructor... However, if you think you are an "A" student in comp, guess again... You TRULY have to earn an A in her class...
Class was not easy. You Write pretty close to One paper a week. In class papers, you write 3(4 pages, rough draft and typed in 2 classes, very tough to do) her class is not easy, I would recommend someone else.. Shes a nice lady, but NEVER NEVER gives A's... its impossible.. especially if all she reads is your firstpage!!!!!!!!!!!!! so makes it poi
Mrs. Kaur is a cool teacher. I took her on-line; she was really helpful with everything. The best part was her being available for conferences. I really recommend her.
She will consistently correct your essays with comments written grammatically incorrect. I don't think that she actually reads more than the first page or two of your papers -- your grade is based on her impression of you. You are likely a better writer than she, but you will still get a B.
She initially seemed friendly/helpful. Very soon my assessment changed. I exerted exemplary effort on the first major paper. Kaur barely even touched her red pen to the work, then pronounced it a low "B". In consultation, she ADMITTED there was almost nothing wrong with it, but INEXPLICABLY simply refused to change the grade! She shouldn't teach.
She is the best teacher ever. Very helpful. Very clear with her instructions. I recommend her to all.
Took this class online, ran very smoothly, she was very clear in her directions and grading. She is a fairly difficult grader, but it helps a lot. I would recommend.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR WHATEVER YOU DO!!! I thought it was going to be okay and that it would be like my 1013 class where all we did was write paper and a daily journal... NO I WAS WRONG. She makes us write papers about the papers we're going to write, WHAT? It's almost like she expects this class to be the only class you're taking.
This class was overall pretty easy for my first online class. although the teacher was almost impossible to reach at times and very rude when you would contact her with a question. She assigns 5 page essays on boring topics so be ready to be bored out of your mind.
Was very understanding and nice. Assigned a group project and I ended up doing all the work and she wasn't too helpful with making the students work with me. TOUGH grader, expects you to be an expert in composition. Sweet person but difficult professor.
Extremely easy.. i'd recommend taking it online. I have an 88 wo trying on any of my work. Her essays were very easy to write--3 to 5pgs including research. If you keep up w your work and show your appreciation, she will help you 100%. Missed a quiz and she let me redo it w no deductions. Make up work is available at the end of the course.
I love online classes and this one was no different. It was incredibly easy. You have to be self motivated to log on and do the work once a week and if you can do that easy A. I missed a module and it caused me to get a B. Stay on top of your work and you will be just fine!
1. Essay rubric very clear. 2. Read the textbook. 3. Quizzes can be hard as they are up to interpretation. 4. It is hard to get an A on essays as an A essay according to the rubric must be completely original. 5. Very timely communication, often within the hour. 6. Great feedback on essays. Overall, if you are a good writer take this class.
hard to follow. expects you to be an expert in writing.
The professor is very thorough, she gives tons of homework! The syllabus has everything you need. That being said, the grading is tough. Ultimately I received a B for what I thought was A work. If you challenge her on your grade it will probably drop (her words). The group assignment at the end was ridiculous. I felt I did most of the work.
Took her online composition class. Absolutely HORRIBLE!! DO NOT TAKE HER!!! She assigns idiotic papers that are useless in topics. SO many readings/notes and her quizzes are bull crap! You miss 2 questions and you get a 70/100!!! You can not even take the quizzes and get a good grade because her notes and the book contradict each other!!
DO NOT take this professor! She is very rude and unfair. She lacks communication skills and often contradicts herself. If you ask/challenge her on a grade she will threaten you by saying "usually grades go down if challenged" Very unprofessional. Should not be working at UTSA.
She is a hard grader but the weekly quiz saves your grades make sure you get your papers proofread before turning them in she catches all mistakes
If you're a procrastinator, then an online class is really not for you. WRC 1023 is nothing like 1013 - it's harder. I would advise you to do all her assignment the day she made it, like ASAP. So, that you wont be scrambling to turn the assignment in at the last minute. I thought I put in my all into a paper, ended up getting a C.
For an online class, she made it easy to understand and follow. Her HW and papers are usually due at the same time and day to make things simple. She is quick to grade, gives A LOT of positive/negative feedback. Fair grader. But I found her weekly quizzes difficult and tricky like there are relatively more than one right answer.
For her online class, all assignments were straightforward. Make sure to do your best on the major essays because they are important. She responds fast, is understandable, and tries to make things simple. Most quizzes/assignments/essays were always due on Mondays at 6am. Submit on time and do good on essays, you'll get an A
This professor is tough but reasonable. She is equal and fair in her grading but will grade tough. Tests are directly from her lecture and reading notes. Papers are challenging but be careful and ask questions about expectations because directions can be vague. Be honest and upfront with the group project and she will adjust for it if group sucks.
Kaur should not be teaching at UTSA. She is absolutely awful. Her quizzes will have many mistakes and contradictory answers. She tells you that she will lower your grade if you challenge her. She is the most unprofessional professor I have ever come across.
She grades ridiculously hard and I mean every little thing will be pointed out. Also, don't think about asking about the grade you received on a paper because she says that when reviewing a paper, she tends to "notice" more mistakes than the first time. Like if you're that lazy, you shouldn't be teaching a writing class.
Very picky and high-intensity workload. Do not recommend, especially for an online course.
HORRIBLE PROFESSOR!!! DO NOT TAKE HER IF YOU WANT TO GET A LOT OF POINTS OFF FOR MINOR DETAILS. Literally worked my butt off on her essays and even went to the writing center and I still would get 80s and lower on her essays. Quizzes every week and each week she gives out assignments. She is a very very hard grader and doesn't give good feedback!!!
Do not take this teacher. She grades as if she expects you to be a professional writer. She assigns too many papers, leaving no time to look over your past papers to correct your mistakes.
For the most part, reasonable, but extremely tough. The first time I took this class (with a different professor), I had a 98 before dropping out entirely. But this teacher keeps you on your knees. The instructions for her class weren't always clear and were sometimes missing, so be prepared to be penalized for things you weren't even aware of.
Quizzes every week which aren't that hard. She's a tough grader with all the papers and essays. One major group project. Not a super hard class but if you miss one assignment it can really affect your grade.
has quizzes every single week and is a tough grader on essays. She says she gives feedback but it doesnt really help. She gave me a low 80 on a paper and she only made 2 marks on it. dont ask her why you got the grade you got or else shell threaten to lower it
Kaur assigned at least 4 readings per week+lectures, several quizzes, and writing assignments. It was overkill, even for an asynchronous online class. She's very formal and not interested in student-teacher interactions at all. In emails sent to only me, she addressed me as "Dear Student." Boring, and that's coming from someone who loves writing!
Wrote negative feedback all over papers, so no matter how long you took to write your essay, there is always something wrong with it. Her instructions on assignments are horrible, which is why I was told I would get a 0 if she had trouble opening my essay again.
horrible
Unless you enjoy writing 20+ pages of work for this class, I highly suggest not take this professor, especially in the summer. A 5+ page paper and multiple quizzes due every week.
Lectures were long and boring with extra readings. Most assignments were due every Monday by 6am, which was actually nice, but you would have an essay due and also a quiz and a discussion board. The quizzes, even if you took the notes, were hard. If you're not connected to your email or blackboard don't expect to find assignments. Don't take!
Tough grader. Make sure you pay attention to prompts. Previous comments likely come from students with few time management skills. I took 3 other classes, work a full time professional job, and still managed to pass the course. Show up, do the discussions, watch the lectures, and complete your essays and you'll do fine. I didn't do that great
Really tough grader. Does not provide feedback on essays. Lectures are very boring. There is A LOT of group work and groups are assigned for you. However the class is online only so it's difficult to figure out who is in what group. If you just need the credit take an easier class.
I don't know why there's lots of negative feedback, but I would overall say the class was good. Just put in actual the effort and use the resources given to you. If you do that, you'll pass the class no problem. It's mostly quizzes so I would recommend that you pass all of those as well as the discussions. If you're reading this, you'll pass
Professor Kaur is pretty strict when it comes to grading essays. You'll have an essay every 1-2 weeks, and for every little mistake, she will mark it. When she provides feedback it is always unclear and usually copy and paste from the last person. She LOVES to say "eliminate wordiness." You can expect a quiz every week over notes.
Honestly, she is just so hard to understand. I'm currently working on our first essay and am regretting taking this professor.
This professor was annoying, she didn't teach at all, we had a hard essay due each week and she is to stick on late work, has no consideration for when assignments are late, and when you ask for feedback she does not teach anything to make you understand.
Manjit Kaur is a difficult grader and strict about the quality of assignments turned in. Even if you meet the expectations of the rubric, she still finds ways to critique your work and give a low grade. She makes it difficult to approach her and isn't good in giving instructions. Do not take this teacher if you want a good grade in English.
Professor Kaur is honestly the best English teacher ive had. She actually teaches english and writing and I actually improved my writing in this class. There is a ton of homework but she gives ample time to complete it. And more material means more opportunities to improve your grade. She offers bonus points for all the papers. One group project.
This professor is very unprofessional and not fair, she will threaten to drop your grade if you challenge her. The group assignment was horrible and she was not empathetic to problems that arose during my group assignment. She should really be removed from utsa as a whole.
Extremely tough grader, however if you get your assignments done on time and actually put in a lot of effort, you will be just fine. Don't take this class if you are bad at time management because this class was time-consuming. Essays are due every 1/2 weeks, quizzes every week, as well as discussions. She's a good professor.
Ok if you got a life outside of college or in general, or even more than two classes, you will regret the amount of essays and assignments and participation in this course. This is a course that makes you feel like you're taking Writing Comp for A MAJOR, when really I'm paying $1200 for my life to revolve around writing for a semester.
She was a horrible teacher and human she inconsistent in what she wanted us to learn, she did not give details about the essays! She would just say the same comment over and over again. She likes to have an ego where she feels like she is the most difficult and best professor in the world! I would warn you to stay AWAY FROM THIS PROFESSOR
From my experience, this professor wasn't too detailed and very vague on the responses to our work. As we try to improve on the assignments given, she didn't really aid on how to improve, instead we would get the same criticism. If you really want to have an easier and more clear direction for this course, I recommend not taking this professor.
extremely tough grader, currently taking her right now and have genuinely never felt more stupid in an english/writing class before.she finds anything and everything to criticize and take points off for. her feedback is extremely vague and she rarely gives personalized feedback that help YOU improve. honestly, i don't recommend taking her.
Professor Kaur is very approachable and generous with her credit. Although there is a lot of work involved, it is manageable because everything is spread out over the course of the week. She offers you the creative freedom to write about anything you want, and the essays required for the class are genuinely interesting.
If you are looking for a professor to help you grow in writing, this is not the professor. Her feedback is very minimal and takes off points for miniscule mistakes. The comments she leaves on drafts and final papers are very cookie cutter and does not benefit you specifically. She also threatens your grade if you want to refute it .
I think WRC in general is tedious and has a lot of work. i had no problem w the professor in general. I recommend viewing feedback provided through her comments on ur assignment turned in thru canvas, she posts a link where she goes through the actual paper w/ comments on actual papers. Look at sample essays provided if you dont get the criteria.
Professor Kaur is very understanding and has genuine care for her students. Her assignments were well laid out and provided the guidelines necessary to succeed. Attendance is for a grade, but she often lets you go from class early. Quite a bit of group work, so choose your partners wisely
I hated the fact that we had to look for an article to write about that had to be no more than 5 years old. Even when I would find one, she would always decline it. It was like trying to find a pin in a haystack. I had no problem with looking for an article to write about, trust me. DON'T RECOMMEND, P.S. I love writing
WRC is annoying personally so if you hate writing essays good luck. Prof is great though. Wants you to succeed and if you need help dont be afraid to ask. She always provides super helpful feedback when grading your assignments. Provides helpful rubrics, guidelines and samples for assignments. Strict when grading though.
Tough grader. She comes across as blunt and sometimes rude, but she genuinely cares about her students and wants them to succeed. She has strict grading rubrics that force you to actually think about your work and put effort into it. Not a class to sleep through or skip.
Professor Kaur Despite Reviews was Caring and mindful. She always responded to my emails outside of class whether it were questions or advice. Grading can be a bit tricky as you'll notice the same feedback for every essay you turn in.
