Blah, Blah, Blah. Not an enjoyable experience.
Dorraj is an awesome professor
Knows his stuff, will actually learn a lot
incredible teacher, its like having a CNN journalist for your teacher
The man is ruining my life.
Not very helpful at all. Repeats a lot of stuff, and contradicts what you may have learned in many other classes. Also, doesn't seem to know much about some things, and is really hard to understand sometimes.
He does know his stuff, but grades hard. I worked hard and still got a C. Not a good elective option, but good if you really like PoliSci.
Difficult tests but passable if you study. He can be confusing at times and may jump around a bit. But he knows what he is talking about and it is obvious. He is also helpful with any questions and discussions.
really knows his stuff, really really smart. he's also one of the NICEST profs I've ever had - get to know him if you take him. his teaching style is helpful, and you get to know your classmates. study everything for tests!!
Once you get past the insanely thick accent (we never did decide exactly what kind of accent it was), he is enjoyable. Hard class, study thoroughly, but is definitely worth the experience - the first grade below an A I was actually proud of.
He is a very nice man and he knows his stuff, yet the class is still very difficult. Some lectures are hard to follow since he moves quickly. He is willing to repeat himself, you need only ask. Dont recomend if you dont have to take it b/c of its difficul
Very intresting class. Made me change to a poli sci major. Study for his tests and ask previous students what the essay question will be.
This was a difficult class, but my favorite. He is so helpful and will answer any questions you have. It is best to study in groups because he lectures so fast that you may have left something out. He is the reason I switched my major. But read...a lot.
Great teacher, great guy. Speaks very concisely and slows down so the class can take notes on important points. Tests are hard but gives a study guide. Recommend getting in a study group.
Was an extremely interesting professor. I would love to take him again. Has incredible knowledge in his field. Not an easy class, but you learn a lot! If you like posc take him! Very easy to talk to and you really get to know your classmates. Probably my favorite prof. at TCU.
Dr. Dorraj is an interesting character and professor. Honestly, there are times I want to kill myself in the middle of his lectures, but generally the course material is very interesting. The tests are easy and his reading material is good, but the main textbook sucks. Overall, his class is an A.
Nice guy outside of class, but condescending if you disagree with his views. Lectures full of info, but sometimes boring. Main text book is horribly boring and liberally biased. Tests are mostly easy, but some questions are a bit vague...don't expect an easy A.
I wish I would have tried harder on the first exam, if I had I would have made an A instead of a B+ for the semester. I recommend you READ everything he assigns. Very helpful in and out of class, after talking to him I did better in all my work. Everything is interesting, he does have a liberal bias
A great professor! Dorraj is a very knowleadgeable man, who wants his students to do well. Have to work hard and be consistent with his lectures for an A. He gives his students an opportunity to prve themselves. Highly recommend him.
Very good prof. Opinionated but always listens to other views. Usually has fact to back up his opinion and tries to get others to do the same. Encourages class participation. Very demanding with reading materials. Very demanding with written projects. Come prepared to work.

If you take a Dorraj class you WILL be challenged and need to rise up to the occasion. Very smart man who cares about his students. Material is hard no matter your level of interest. Good class for grad school preparation. Don't worry we all fail the first exam.
Learned more abt Islam than politics in Mid East. Islam info was great; preferred much more on the latter. Professor was unorganized; tended to topic-hop and drone on. Nice guy, just can't focus. Class room presentations (done most of semester) were a waste. I'd rather learn from the professor. Seemed a way for class participation, but didnt work.
I studied my behind off for the first exam and did amazingly well. READ the chapters, it WILL come up. And take notes on ALL lectures, even ones that don't seem that important. Chances are it'll be on an exam.
nice guy, very smart. his tests however are a bit ridiculous in that no one finished in our class and he didnt seem to care. we were not ever given enough time to complete them. highly reccomeded but come prepared to read a lot, work a lot, and learn a lot. HARD, but worth it.
An amazing speaker but talks over the heads of most non-political science majors. Though you may get a bad grade, you'll still leave with a lot of information.
You can never go wrong with a Dorraj class. There's a plethora of material to be covered, but his test review sheet covers whatever you need to know. Just follow his logic and argumentative structure in your papers. Hopefully you’ll have some greeks in your class, because they will make you look like a political science god.
Great Professor. He is wonderful and loves teaching. you will learn a lot and want to do further research.very understanding of students difficulties. Highly recommend for majors and non-majors.
Dorraj has to be be one of my favorite professors at TCU. He is inspirational and incites interest in the subject even among non-majors. Hes a great teacher to get to know, cool guy and profesional at the same time. Lectures are not very structured, but youll find that with most POSC profs, but read and study hard...nothing can kep you from an A/B.
Very intellegent and has a very organized way of lecturing but is a very hard teacher. I'm an all A student and I studied my butt off for this class and made a high B...I'm pretty sure he only have one or two (low) As in the entire class. I learned A LOT but be ready to work. If you are a hard worker and value learning, this is a great class to tak
Expect to do a LOT of reading in this class. However, Dorraj is very nice and very willing to help if you ask for it, he also is very knowledgeable and open to different opinions, although he doesn't shy from expressing his own. If you want to debate with him, you better make sure you know your stuff though!
Dr. Dorraj knows a great deal on his subject, but his lectures are often quite disjointed and hard to follow. He is quite liberal politically. One of my peeves with him is that he does not allow us to keep our blue books after the tests, so that it is hard to learn from previous mistakes in his class.
relentless on lectures, helps girls in the class more than guys, requires a lot of reading, liberal and will press his ideas on you, will not bump you up if you dont suck up! = knowledgeable professor, but WERE NOT ALL POLI SCI MAJORS!!!!!!!
expect a LOT of reading.. his lectures are hard to follow and you spend the whole time writing as fast as you can.. he gives a review... but very broad... i attended every class.. always studied.. and barely made a B.. I WOULDNT take this class again!
This was my favorite class, but i am a polisci major. He is incredibly smart and extremely helpful. It is worth your time to talk to him after class and let him know your name. Take detailed notes over his lectures and learn them for the test and you will be set. Once you become accustomed to his accent it i way to understand him.
He is a VERY smart man, knows a LOT of information, which is sometimes the problem. Tests are too long for the time given, and he grades hard, will take off a huge amount of points if you miss ONE detail. He probably thinks this is the only class you are taking at the time with all the writing projects he gives and the difficulty of the tests.
Do not take this class if you have a life outside of school! He seems to think his class is the only one you ever take with the amount of work he gives you. His lectures are almost incomprehensible because he has no organization. He keeps going back and forth between different topics and you're always getting confused.
I'm a PoliSci minor, and the class is a lot of work (25pg research paper, 7pg book report, essay tests) but it really isn't difficult if you know how to take notes. Don't copy straight from the board as he's writing; instead, pick out what he emphasizes. Tests are very straightforward. Not nearly as difficult as many people are saying.
Ive taken 3 classes w/ Dorraj and I love the format of his class. Study your lecture notes which are easy to follow and reading isnt really necessary(i never did) Tests are straightforward but you must get some solid studying/prep for them. Papers are straightforward and hes not a stickler for grammar/structure. Visit w/ him in office hrs.
I adore D. Dorraj. He's brilliant and truly cares about his students. Classes are SUPER hard, tests are SUPER hard... but go and talk to him during office hours, study the study guide, and you'll be fine. And I think he is a hottie fo sho.
Yes, its a hard class. Yes, you will have to work your toosh off. Yes, he talks as fast as an auctioneer and yes you will need the quickest hands in the west, but he is extremely helpful and is always available to talk. You can skim the book, but study the notes well well well. You learn soooo much though and its helpful for majors/minors.
I had his international politics class and it was pretty good. His tests aren't that hard if you know that material he lectures on. The format of his class is good because he has an outline for everything.
One of my favorite polisci professors! Brilliant and interesting!
Dr. Dorraj is a very nice man. He really wants his students to succeed. Sometimes it is hard to follow him and it can be very confusing. The book is very hard to understand but you have to refrence it on your tests and they are all essay. He does help you to understand the material. You will have to work hard for your grade but he is a great prof.
He is the wide knowledge prefoessor, gives a lot of good example in class. willing to help student. He changes the structure of his test to help student get higher grade. However, it is not an easy class to take if you an non major in Political science.
His developing nations class is hard. No other way around it. You have to take really good notes. Recording lectures helps the most. Tests are all essay, make sure you study at least a week ahead of time. There is a final 20 page research paper. But if you go to him for help, he's more than willing. He's just a really really smart guy.
Very Hard Class. Dont get me wrong, Dorajj is a Genius! However he is also very hard to follow and often goes on tangents. His tests are also fairly hard as well as he expects you to know every little detail. While I learned alot, It is not worth taking if you are taking 15 hours due to his ridiculous research papers and tests.
Dorraj is an awesome professor. He is extremely approachable and personable. PAY ATTENTION TO LECTURE! If you pay attention, take good notes, and study really hard for the tests, you should do well. Read the book and write a halfway decent research essay and it'll be an easy grade boost. Just work hard and you'll do well.
very hard and time consuming class, but if you are interested in the subject you will enjoy it! Dorraj is a genius, a good lecturer and is very approachable! just lots of studying and a very tough A. but come to class and take careful notes and you'll be fine
Thick accent, hard to understand. Very hard, boring class. Int. Politics is my major and he still made it completely uninteresting. I suggest taking someone else.
Dr. Dorraj is one of the smartest professors you will ever meet. With that being said, his classes are tough, especially upper level classes. Midterm and final are the only tests and require hours upon hours of studying. Usually a research paper and a presentation, which both require a lot of work as well. Definitely hard, but you will learn a ton.
Dr. Dorraj is the most adorable and most intelligent man on this Earth. It is true he talks fast and lectures may get confusing, but he is more than happy to clarify anything. Type every word he says, it made all the difference for me. He is absolutely on your side and cares so much, and WANTS you to succeed. He is your best resource! TAKE HIM
No joke just like everyone else states this man is one of the smartest people I've ever met. Very nice and understanding, but at times can be unclear about specifics in his assignments. Get to know him and it will help you out a lot. 3 Energy briefs easy. 20 plus page paper easy but time-consuming. Final 15 page easy but during finals week.
Dr. Dorraj aka the sandal man at first seems like a pain in the rear professor, but is actually one of the nicest professors I know. He does have his downsides not tech savvy and lectures can be a bit boring, but he is one of the smartest professors if you are looking to learn a lot take him. Get to know him he will help you go far. Manageable A.
Dr. Dorraj is an awesome professor & is incredibly intelligent! Attendance is not mandatory. However, if you want to do well you should go to class. There are only 3 tests (pretty easy if you study) and 1 book review. He requires a lot of reading, but it is up to you if you really want to do it. Manageable A if you give a decent amount of effort.
The class grade is based off of three energy briefs, a timeline, a 25 page research paper and a written 20-25 page final exam. He's a slow grader and there's not a chance in hell he reads the last two assignments. Your grade is either the four previous grades or if he knows and likes you gives higher grades to people he likes over those who earn it
Dr. Dorraj is very intelligent. The class isnt difficult as long as you put effort into the projects, BUT, he has no problem injecting his personal political views into all of his lectures, which I found very inappropriate. If youre conservative minded, be prepared to bite your tongue because his facts are weak at best in many cases.
My biggest issue I have with this mass is that he assigns book reviews and research papers that are completely unnecessary. He doesn't give a reason why he wants you writing 20 pages of which he'll probably only skim 2. He spaces out his exams randomly. It's easy to disengage. If you're looking for structure and active learning, do not take.
The most boring lecturer Ive ever had the displeasure of taking. Very nice and caring man, but not a professor in the slightest. You will feel like you are understanding everything while taking the class (albeit boring as all get out) but on the tests essays you will not pass. If you dont put every single thing he wants, you will not pass.
DO NOT take this class if you do not know how to take notes. He does give a lot of reading assignments, but honestly your test will consist of two questions form the book. Everything else including the essay portion will come form lectures. His paper is easy just be detailed he doesnt grade for grammar or format. You will be graded on details.
Dr. Dorraj is really great but he's sometimes hard to understand. His class is LECTURE HEAVY and if you don't know how to take notes, you won't pass. His tests aren't hard, multiple choice, true/false and an essay. He's really helpful in office hours. His lectures can be pretty boring if you aren't interested in the stuff he's talking about.
Dr. Dorraj is the best specialist on the Middle East at TCU. I learned A LOT from this class. He cares about you. Get ready to make notes, write down everything he says - it will help you on the test. Start on 15pg research paper early and ask him if you are doing it right. Tip: criticize Trump, Saudi Arabia, Israel, Pompeo - he doesn't like them))
Great class - I learned a ton. Be prepared to work really hard though - it's not easy. The papers are really tough but make sure you start early. Don't ignore the readings because they are important for the essay tests.
The lectures are extremely unorganized and he is not specific on any requirements for tests or the research paper. He has a good heart and really cares about his students, but he does not know how to show it in class. The only perk is he gives exam reviews that will help a lot on the test... once you locate the proper material.
Dorraj is a very knowledgeable professor and will answer any question you might have, however I think the online classes took a toll on his lectures. Be prepared to take notes and read to textbook to succeed in the class.
Dr. Dorraj is very knowledgeable and his lectures are extremely informative and interesting. He does only grade on a few things, however, and it's really important to take notes in class and write down everything you know on the tests. But he is an excellent professor I would take again even though his guidelines and grading can be vague.
nice guy and very smart. I definitely learned a lot from him. beware you probably wont know your grade in the class until the day grades are due (3/5 assignments were not graded until the day of which was really frustrating). Exams were pretty tough in that I felt I never had time to finish (all short responses/essays).
Very intelligent professor specializes in middle eastern politics. His class is VERY lecture heavy and he does not encourage student participation in class. The tests are difficult but you can get a good grade if you study enough. I would not recommend his class unless you are very interested in politics and are willing to put in the work.
Dr. Dorraj is hands down the smartest person I've ever met - which means he expects a lot from his students. Lectures are very interesting but you need to read the textbooks to fill in the gaps. Tests are hard but there are only three of them. Overall, a hard but interesting class with a great, caring professor.
Dr. Dorraj is a knowledgeable professor, and I enjoyed his perspective. However, this class is lecture heavy, and because he is so specific on every topic and his lectures are unorganized, it is often difficult to narrow down what you need to study for the tests. He also strays from his syllabus often. If you take this class, make sure you read!
I took him for Developing Nations. The class is interesting. The class is lecture-heavy! There are 2 exams, a paper, and a presentation. He is a hard grader. He DOES NOT put in grades. I left for break only knowing what my first exam was. Never put in grades and only submitted final grades to the registrar's office. I honestly do not recommend.
Professor Dorraj is extremely knowledgeable, passionate, and experienced in his field of study. His class is extremely lecture heavy and be prepared to take A LOT of notes. DO NOT RELY ON THE POWERPOINT SLIDES. There are no assignments in his class, only exams and a group project. Also, you dont know your grade until the end of the semester.
Dr. Dorraj is a great professor who cares a great deal about his students. However, if you are not a political science major, do not take his class (Unless you do P/NC). You have to, you must take notes in class because his power points do not have enough information for the exams. Exams are pretty tough, you have to be very specific.
Love him as a person. Took 2 of his classes; they are painfully unengaging. His lectures are unorganized and difficult to understand. There are literally 5 grades for the entire semester. He does not grade essays fairly. Got mad at us when most of the class failed a test. Did not have a single grade entered in the grade book until grades were due.
Professor Dorraj was excellent in this class. His lectures were thoroughly interesting and the material on the test was mainly covered in lectures. If you attend class regularly you will succeed.
Dr. Dorraj is a super nice person and the smartest professor i have had. dude is extremally intelligent and you can learn a lot. all of the test material is covered in the lectures and you do not need to read unless you want clarification. he can get boring if you dont like the lecture material so drink some coffee if you have him in the morning.
Dr. Dorraj knows a ton about the material he is teaching, so his lectures tend to be long and fast. Prepare to take lots of notes as his tests are very specific to lectures and reading. He has very few assignments (3 tests and a project) so each assignment is worth a lot of your grade. He takes attendance at the start of every class.
Very very kind, but too difficult. Only graded on 4 things (exams & group project). Hard to understand his thick accent during lectures (not his fault). A LOT of reading. Exams are extremely hard. I dropped the class it was so difficult.
Probably the smartest person i've ever met. Very interesting class if you like the subject matter. Class can get a little boring at times since its all lecture. If you like this stuff take the class you'll learn a ton and find it cool, if not don't take it you will struggle.
He is clearly a genius in his field, and I've never met a more qualified person to teach a class. You will have to take tons of notes and listen to him ramble a lot, but you can learn so much. He's a very sweet guy and is obviously very knowledgeable and passionate about the curriculum he teaches.
Love Dorraj and have taken him twice. Is lecture heavy and traditional in his teaching, but is inspirational and clearly a master of what he teaches. Know study guides for test, ask some questions in class, and go to office hours for clarification, and there's no reason you shouldn't do well in this class. Will be taking Dorraj again!
You need to put in the work but he is an amazing professor
The only grades in this class are two exams, one final exam, and one oral presentation. He is so boring and very hard to sit through his classes and follow what he is saying. He consistently rambles and does not have a straight line of thought. He shows up late all the time and does not feel bad about it. I pass/no credited the class.
Prepare to have the most boring class of your life. Lectures are hard to follow and he goes on tangents about random things. Class is extremely boring and he doesn't show a lot of respect for your time, coming nearly 20 minutes late sometimes. VERY LIBERAL leaning. Only 3 hard exams and one presentation.
Your only grades in this class will be 3 exams and one oral exam nothing else. He grades ridiculously hard on the essay portion of the exam. He is always at least 5 minutes late and will ramble during lecture. The whole class is just him talking with slides, but he doesn't follow the slides at all DO NOT TAKE if you can't pay attention
If you need to take International Politics (POSC 20303), take Currier or especially Carter, not him. A boring, lecture-heavy class where your only grades are 3 exams and a group project. He's incredibly smart, but doesn't know how to convey all of his knowledge to his students. If you don't have a background on 20th century events, you'll struggle.
This class is very lecture heavy. Typically this would be fine, but little class participation is encouraged. There are only 4 exam grades, and 1 group presentation. Tests can get very specific, and essay grading is sometimes harsh. If you're looking to take the class just for a GA credit, I would not recommend. I pass/no credited this class.
Nice enough guy but lackluster professor. Midterm was returned a month and a half late (past the p/nc deadline) curved significantly and people still failed (20s and 30s/100). Lectures are boring and poorly organized which hurts your grade. Lower division classes of his might be ok, but avoid any upper division if you care about your grades.
I would never take this prof again. We finished our final exam and didn't have 3/5 of the grades graded for the course. We had no idea what our grades were going to be. Grading is heavily bias and you get punished for sharing too much and not knowing everything about it. Exams are 100% hand written and grade is terrible. Nice guy, bad prof
Nice man, awful prof. Boring, the class is entirely him lecturing and he goes on tangents that make the class fall behind schedule and he'll assume you can make up what he didn't cover outside of class. Tests are MC ?s and an essay portion; the essay's grading was so subjective & vague. Only reason I'm glad I took was its triple dipping CORE reqs
Such a nice guy but a tough professor. Lectures are very long and kinda boring if you don't already have a little understanding of foreign policy. It is very important that you do the readings and if you have questions he is very good at explaining things during office hours. As long as you study and do the readings you should be fine.
I learned a lot in this class, but he grades our essay questions and project so subjectively. He talks for an hour and a half straight, so if you can't pay attention and take good notes you will not succeed. You have to show up to class to get the notes. Lectures can get super boring and not engaging. I did well on exams and still got an A-.
