tests suck, professor curves like you wouldn't believe, just try and you will easily pass!
Always pretend to be nice, but sucks! Take revenge against students not showing up.
Prof. Rashidian is great. It's a fun class, even if it is a boring/hard subject. His sarcasm is really playful and appreciated. He is definitely the guy to take 317 with, as he really prepared us for 414 (which he also teaches). Tests are straight forward, as is grading, generous with the EC to if you need it. The book is also tops.
great teacher. if you attend the class and really pay attention you will definitely get a good grade. The thing about him that I didn't like is that he is not organized and that sometimes he wastes time by responding to those students who make nonsense comments. Other than that he is great and I definitley advise any student to take his class
His lectures are not helpful at all. Gets his material straight from the book and if you leave in the middle of the class for bathroom, he will stop the lecture to ask you where you're going, which is embarassing and unnecessary.
i'm satisfied with my grade.
Sarcastic. And strict with attendance and punctuality stuff. He doesn't let you use your computer or cell phone during classes. But I think his lectures ARE really useful considering it's such a hard subject. And his sarcasm makes the lectures less boring too. (lol) Overall I do like him and his class (even though I hated the subject).
If you get lost in this class in once, you're in big trouble because as any other class all the chapters build off each other, except this material is hard as sh**. Tests are so random, never know what to expect, and even the homework doesn't help you. Good Luck passing this class, no wonder a third of the students have to re-take.
This is one of the worst teachers I've ever had. He thinks he's teaching in the soviet union or something. Tests are hard, lectures are next to useless. Everyone in class just reads their books and teaches themselves. Unfortunately he's the only teacher that teaches econometrics, so you might as well get used to him if your in the econ program.
Do not take
Horrible professor! The TA's 2 hour review session was more helpful, clear, and concise than the month that Rashidian took to teach the same material. It's possible to do well, you just have to devote a LOT of time and be able to memorize equations.
I get good grade in this class because I am a memorizing equations machine. Do not take him if you doesn't have this special skill like me.
Not a good teacher - makes everything 10x more complicated than it really is. Terrible at explaining concepts, picks on students, and keeps class late in order to meticulously record attendance.
Probably one of the most difficult classes I've ever had. Thankfully, the curve is pretty steep. His tests are based on the homework, so you HAVE to do the homework and do it over and over again to make sure you understand the material. Make sure you've memorized those formulas. The good thing is, he always willing to help during office hours.
I honestly don't understand why he has such bad ratings. I am really enjoying his class. He is very friendly, funny and willing to help. This class is definitely not easy, but with his help, it's not that bad at all. I am planning on taking one of his classes next semester again.
This class is tough, but if you attend class and take notes, you'll be fine. His exams are pretty much from what he does in class. He is very helpful. It's not THAT bad!
Rashidian is a boss. The guy really knows his stuff and as long as you go to class and do the homeworks, you'll be fine. Go to office hours if you have a problem and he'll help you out. Really sarcastic too which makes the class much more enjoyable.
The most difficult B I've ever earned in college. This is not one of those classes you can BS your way through. You actually have to learn the material to do well. Hours of HW every week, but if you understand those problems, you're golden. Rashidian is a stats guru and despite the enormous amount of stress I had with this class, I learned a lot.
he's a good professor, but he goes EXTREMELY FAST. (like at the speed of light) he would just move on to the next subject or jump between subjects and not explain them clearly so you get the concept. he also can be very mean/sarcastic sometimes, but DO NOT MISS A CLASS AND TAKE NOTES. DON'T EVER GET DISTRACTED! (i know its hard, but TRY!)
Professor Rashidian knows his stuff. And this is also where the complements stop. Although his tests aren't very difficult he is a rude professor who goes way too fast. I would take someone else.
Extremely rude, takes attendance, high expectations, boring lecturer. Read the textbook, way more helpful than he is. Only positive: his tests are really easy
One of the worst professors i've ever had! Makes everything way more complicated than it needs to be. Not helpful at all. expects everyone to understand econ like he does. unless you'e an econ wiz, don't take this class
Lectures are pretty dull, probably because they are drawn verbatim from the textbook. Grading of homework is very lenient, and as long as you pay attention in lecture and read the textbook chapters, the quizzes aren't terribly difficult.
The only reason to go to lecture is because he has a sign in sheet. He calls people out who come late and leave early. He isn't helpful at all but his lectures are straight from the textbook and quizzes aren't too difficult.
Worst professor I've had! Unless you are an Econ genius, don't take this class. The tests are impossible, nothing like how he teaches it (which is not very well). Won't answer your questions in class or in his office hours. Teaches as if everyone understands Econ like he does, and if you don't, you will have a very hard time in the class.
Lectures not always the most exciting (uses textbook slides), but Rashidian certainly knows his stuff and when he goes off-slide, he can offer some very interesting info that isn't contained in the textbook.
This is the most difficult class I took at USC but it didn't have to be. I had to get a tutor. YOU MUST do the homework. Easy points; a free twenty percent of the overall grade. YOU MUST show up. Write down everything he writes down. This will only give you a chance. Still going to be the hardest class you ever had! He's just not good at teaching!
Rashidian was a terrible professor. I thought it would be helpful that he taught straight from the power points provided by the textbook's publishers and assigned homework from the book; but then his quizzes and midterm/final seemed to come from some other source. Much of what he discussed in class wasn't on the exams, and vice-versa.
This class may seem easy when you understand the lectures because he teaches directly from the book. But the quizzes and midterm are totally different and very hard. Doesnt help that he doesnt even provide the powerpoint lectures he shows in class. Avoid this class!!
Just. Don't. Do it.
While his lectures aren't particularly interesting, he is funny at times, and if you read the textbook and actually try on your homework assignments, the class is very doable. Usually the people complaining about this class are the ones that don't take the time to learn the material. A midterm, 4 quizzes (drops the lowest one), and a final.
Hardest class I've ever taken in my life. Requires LOTS of effort. Tip: But the study guide and do the practice exercises. It will help you big time because the quizzes, midterm, and final have no correlation to the hw. Read the textbook in advance, do the HW, and go to discussion every time, your TA will help you survive. Good luck!
Lecture is not helpful, but if you use the textbook and old quizzes/tests you can do well in this class. You can not get by without studying, but the exams directly relate to the material in the textbook. You can teach yourself everything you need to know using the textbook.
This is the worst professor I have ever seen. Doesn't care about students and makes this course harder than it needs to. I received a D+ from this horrid professor and retook it with Narag and received a B+ (due to 1 major error on final). DO NOT TAKE ECONOMETRICS FROM HIM.
I had to drop this course in the spring because I was failing. Took him for summer school and got a B-. It is one of those classes where effort is not enough, you have to really be smart. Try to take someone else if you care about your GPA.
I worked really hard. I understand how other students rated poorly on him but I feel like you just really have to read the textbook and do the homework and sample questions to get a good grade. He explains pretty well. It doesn't mean that he is a bad professor just because people didn't get good grades. You have to work, read, do the problems.
For ECON 317, Professor Rashidian was an extremely clear and fair professor. But you MUST go to classactually pay attention and do the homework. He teaches the topics in a very understandable manner; though the material may be tedious, he tells you exactly what you need to know for testsquizzes, which are usually straightforward.
He was a really fair professor. He wants students to come to class, read the textbook, and care about the material. If you do that, you generally get a good grade. He also likes to see that students are improving. I get why people didn't always like him, but I thought he was actually really helpful and sometimes entertaining.
What's up with all the low ratings for this professor? Sure Rashidian isn't the best professor out there, but he's at the very least above average. He explains concepts fairly well and does an adequate job to make you actually care about the course material. Quizzes, the midterm and the final were all manageable if you studied.
Poor. Impatient. Doesn't explain the concepts well and gets irritated when you ask questions.
Econometrics is hard no matter who teaches it. Rashidian does a great job of making it as easy as possible. YOU MUST GO TO CLASS. The lectures are long and difficult, but it would be worse with any other professor. Everyone wishes they had Rashidian for their econometrics professor. Do the homework! There is a lot but the tests are based on it.
He is a very good professor imo. People who complain about his teaching quality are those who expect an east A in this class - which is certainly impossible. (I give a 5 but it is actually a 2, but I have to pump his rating up. He does not deserve a 2.6.) He is helpful albeit sarcastic. But hey, stat is boring, he tried his best to make it fun.
If you want someone to hold your hand, this isn't the professor for you. But if you can handle sarcasm, aren't afraid to ask questions, and like things explained step-by-step, Rashidian is a great professor. By far the best I've had in the Econ department. His class is hard, but if you pay attention in lecture and do the homework, you'll be fine.
Rashidian is very arrogant and doesn't respect students at all. He pretends to be helpful but when you ask him to explain anything in class he makes fun of you and refuses to answer. Leaving the room is not allowed sometimes. Grading isn't hard cuz people aren't learning in his lectures. If you study on your own you should be outperforming
He is by far one of the better professors in the economics department. If you put in the effort and study all of the homework and lectures you will do well. Beware, he will be very sarcastic when answering questions but its part of his humor to make the class interesting. He really cares that you learn the material, even if he assigns extra HW.
if YOU ARE LAZY DONT REGISTER WITH RASHIDIAN!!!! RUN FOR YOUR LIFE... every negative post u see here is probably from someone who doesn't like to challenge themselves academically. In class we have tons of idiots on their phones who NEVER pay attention, This is no poetry class!! I'm sure those idiots will be here soon telln u Rashidian is terrible.
Takes some getting used to, and he's strict with attendance and showing up to class on time. That said, he is very knowledgeable about the material and gives a lot of examples. The concepts are clear as long as you can pay attention in class and do the (many) homework assignments he gives. He can also be kind of funny and just wants people to learn
I took Rashidian for every every Econ class I could. A lot of people don't like him because he is sarcastic and assigns homework that you are required to turn in, but I personally find him hilarious (gotta have thick skin) and never found another econ prof who could explain concepts as clearly - you just have to pay attention during class.
This class is not for someone who wants an easy A. you have to understand the concepts, not just memorize formulas to pass. That being said, he offers a cheat sheet on almost every test, will bump your grade up at most 3% if you participated, and completely voids the lowest test grade you receive. Show up to class and show up on time.
One of the worst professors in the entire economics department. Avoid at all cost because he gets impatient quickly and gets irritated when you ask questions.
By far. the worst professor I've had in all four years. He expects students to understand concepts as soon as he teaches them, & when you dont he sees it as an opportunity to show off. he's obnoxious and makes learning hard. he's smart but he has favourites and bad lists you from day one if you don't impress him. don't take him he is so dry.
Honestly, Rashidian doesnt deserve such a harsh ranking. He is a great teacher, but I will admit lectures can get a bit dry at times. He explains things step by step, his homework is comprehensive, and quizzes are very reflective of what weve done in class. You have to put work in to get a grade youre happy with, but its definitely manageable.
Prof Rashidian is a very nice guy, especially in O.H. He is also very willing to help-- the only time he gets "irritated" is if people ask questions every few seconds on things that he just said. His lectures can be boring, but his quizzes are almost exactly like what you do in lecture. The HW is not hard but sometimes long. Would recommend him!
Rashidian is by far the best prof. in the Econ department. He deserves a much better rating. Highly recommended!
Rashidian is a great guy, but can be unclear. You really have to focus to get what he's saying. He'll often do problems wrong to show you "how not to do them" which is frustrating. If you really put in the work, you should be okay. GO TO SI!!! Grading was finnicky but tests are generally straightforward--if you know the HW problems, you'll be fine.
Rashidian for 317 is not very difficult. But when you take 318 with him, it is much, much harder. Don't be fooled by how easy 317 is in his class-- when you get to 318 with Rashidian, you'll be praying for a passing grade in the class.
He cares about his students and knows what he is teaching but his lectures are extremely dry and utterly boring. The context is doable yet hard and he does not make it easier to listen and learn in class.
Honestly, the lectures are really dry, fast paced and very unclear. Every class you skip will be deducted from your homework grade (15%). Tests and quizzes are much harder than the homework and you basically have to teach yourself everything to get a good grade. Really terrible professor in general tbh. GO TO S.I.'s, they're suuuper helpful
Allows cheat sheets for the 4 quizzes, midterm and final. Drops your lowest quiz grade. Takes attendance so you have to go to class but also wouldn't want to miss class because its a lot of information and good class examples. HW are graded super easily don't even need the right answers just need to show that you did it.
Very dry lectures. One of the least passionate guys I've ever seen. Doesn't like questions, but he's ok if you like to sit in the back and zone out. Pretty easy tests, drops lowest quiz. Not too hard to get an A but boring af to do it. Just a depressing person. He could be worse though. He takes attendance so it's mandatory to show up.
Worst professor I have ever had in USC Econ Department. He makes everything so difficult by giving little extra materials to study. His handwriting is difficult to recognize. He is super lazy and almost never post announcement for change of HW due dates and etc. He doesn't respect for students and often make pointless jokes during class.
His lecture is dry, but grading criteria is not that harsh. You can have a cheat sheet in quizzes and mid/final, and homework are graded leniently. Just submit hws on time. Also, the lowest quiz grade is dropped so don't need to worry too much. It is mandatory to show up in class. TA's review session is helpful for mid and final terms.
Took Rashidian for 317 and 318 (A & B, respectively). Lectures are extremely dry, yet mandatory for participation grade. His teaching of R for econometrics was awful. Makes jokes about wealth of USC students and lack of work ethic. That said, he pushed students to understand concepts rather than memorization.
This class was the worst class I have ever taken. His lectures are awful and riddled with mistakes. He does not make his own power points and is very sarcastic/rude. His quizzes are absolutely ridiculous. The multiple choice are SO difficult and make no sense. He offers no help with preparing for exams and is not helpful during office hours.
Worst professor ever. I don't even know how he still has this job. The TAs are more useful and better at explaining the concepts.
he's a good professor, but the exam questions were always much harder than class examples and the homework
Microecon is a tough subject no matter the professor, so seek out TA help in office hours. Rashidian is lecture heavy and the information is quite dense. Really difficult quizzes and midterm/final that was nothing like the practice quizzes. Also 5% of the total grade is attendance so show up. Sweet guy but shouldn't be teaching intro-level.
Rashidian's he really drives students to learn the material and you will come out with a deep understanding of econometrics if you are an Econ/Math student. That said attendance is mandatory, lectures are somewhat dry and "solutions" to homework problems are somewhat useless.
Professor Rashidian wants you to succeed, classes are mandatory and dry. Homeworks are useless and doesn't have to be correct. The reason is that quizzes and test does not base off homework at all, they are really hard and very difficult to complete within the time limit. Note: The way he asks test questions makes easy materials five times harder.
Professor Rashidian knows a lot about statistics. However, knowing versus teaching it are two different things. I am 95% confident that he isn't good at teaching. His lectures are super important that if you miss one class you will need to catch up asap. He takes attendance! Read from the slides and textbook, they explain better than he did.
I had Rashidian for both 317 and 318. He's dry but he teaches the concepts well and he's always willing to help at office hours. Both classes are made up of a few quizzes, a midterm, final, and homework/attendance. He has a literal attendance sheet so you can't miss class.
Honestly a lot of people might complain about Rashidian, but he genuinely wants you to do well in his class. Pay attention, go to class, and really do your homework and you should be okay. He really makes you work for it. Also 318 is much harder than 317.
Had Rashidian for online econometrics. Honestly the class could have been a lot lot worse. He taught it pretty well under the circumstances, and he gave a lot of examples in class that were helpful for doing the homework. There was weekly homework, two midterms, a group project (that he should have scrapped tbh), and a final. Definitely manageable.
Rashidian is very dry and honestly not very respectful of his students. Homework is repetitive and tests are much harder than quizzes and homework
This is one of the best econ professor at dornsife. Lectures are easy to understand, and he does an amazing job teaching online classes. My other professor either just post a PPT or talk with random stream of ideas. My man gives detailed lecture notes and actually EXPLAIN them using whiteboard. Good stuff
nothing to say
Rashidian made microecon 20x harder than it had to be. Micro isn't difficult at all, but he made sure to make it so. I can't believe I wasted my time/money going to class when I had to learn everything off of YouTube. His homework assignments/lectures had nothing to do with the tests. Do not take micro with Rashidian unless you absolutely have to.
I'm really sad that his ratings are not super high. Rashidian is a very understanding professor and very fair. He lets you have cheat sheets on your tests, he is very thorough, in 317 he even lets you drop a quiz. His humor is very dry but I find him hilarious. I took him for 318 too. Would recommend esp for 317 to give solid foundation.
I honestly liked Professor Rashidian! He's very good at explaining the content material and walks through a lot of examples. Definitely attend lectures; having that extra practice and exposure to what you're learning helps with exams. He's also fairly accessible outside of class, so go to office hours if you're ever stuck! SI is very helpful too.
Rashidian is a fantastic economics professor whose lectures were helpful and straightforward. Although he is a little dry, Rashidian was always able to teach economics clearly and concisely. He certainly doesn't deserve the bad reviews he got on here--those people probably weren't trying hard enough.
THIS CLASS SUCKS!!! I thought the class would be a typical challenge, but it is extremely challenging. If the other teacher for intro to micro is not open, do not take professor rashidian. His quizzes and tests are very hard and he does not even prepare you. Avoid a W and just avoid him.
Professor Rashidian explains everything clearly and gives a lot of examples and practice. His lecture notes are super helpful. I don't know why he gets so many negative reviews! Tests are just like homework and class examples. The final grade is based on class standing. The top third get an A. Highly recommend.
i love this man. Very good for those who have no foundational background in statistics.
I've taken Rashidian for 203 and 317 and got As both times. The man lectures well and provides good examples with clear explanations. His tests are challenging, but if you study the textbook and understand how to apply the concepts from the lectures, you will succeed in his class. If you try to memorize/don't use the textbook, you will fail.
Wasn't helpful throughtout the semester especially as this is an online class. Had a stand-offish attitude towards questions and wasn't understanding of the fact that the online nature of classes meant students had advantages over other students. Lectures were mundane, resorted to watching sped-up recordings. Little to fall back on to improve grade
Good professor, explains concepts well and tries to get you to actually understand them rather than memorising rules or formulas. Grading is clear, tests are kind of hard but if you study and put in the work you'll do well. You get to use sheets on the exam. The class honestly bored me to tears but he's a good teacher overall and quite funny too.
Rashidian is often disrespectful to students, especially if there's a lack of participation. He talks in circles, does not always clarify the math, and provides homework problems that look nothing like what you'll see on the test. You can succeed if you put in the effort, but it's not an enjoyable experience.
Probably the worst teachers I've ever had, the worst economics teacher for sure. He doesn't understand how to optimally use technology which isn't entirely his fault but his lectures are extremely boring and difficult to retain info, he also doesn't care about students who don't actively participate. Not accommodating at all and rude
Graded on a curve, based on quizzes (take 4, drop lowest), midterm, final & hw (basically graded on completion). Textbook HW problems are not similar to quizzes/tests; study the class problems and examples from lecture instead. Lots of time pressure on quizzes. Rashidian wants participation, but can come off as irritated toward questions. SI helps!
Lectures are quite boring. He's a good guy, but he definitely does not know how to teach in a virtual environment. Wouldn't recommend this professor.
I loved Professor Rashidian!! As long as you make the most of your time in lecture, you'll do well because the examples he uses in class are what you'll expect on the exam. Read the book!! He really wants everyone to do really and offered to redistribute the weight of tests for specific students in order for them to pass <3
This man deserves a much higher score. Hes passionate about the subject matter and wants students to succeed! Its not an easy pass if thats what youre looking for, but if you do the work you got this! Also, hes genuinely nice. Maybe his sarcasm is not for everyone but dont take it personally. Accessible and accommodating as well if needed.
To start off, this might be the worst professor I have ever taken in my life. His lectures are hardly understandable. There are times where I don't even know what subject I'm in due to his poor teaching. 95% of the class don't seem to know what's going on either. I actually question how he even got this job. He does not know how to teach!
This class is definitely not easy. You will have to put in a lot of work for it. The tests and quizzes aren't too far off from the examples he gives in class and the HW, so make sure to actually understand those. The first month of the class is brutal, but it gets a little better as time goes on. Not the worst prof but will make you work.
Sadly this professor likes watching students fail. Not a hard class but he makes it more stressful than it needs to. He also teaches stuff till 2 days before the exam and includes those in the midterms and quizzes. He gives 2 quizzes, 1 midterm and 1 final and weekly homework with a lot of problems. Overall not an understanding professor at all.
One of the worst profs at USC. In addition to him being awful, the course content itself is quite difficult and frankly useless for 95% of econ students unless you're pursuing a grad degree in econ. HW is tough and midterms/quizzes are purposefully nothing like what you would have seen before from his prep
Impossible to get below A on anything if you attend every lecture and pay attention. Attendance is mandatory. Quiz/exam questions are exactly the same as class examples. Youre given many formulas and you just need to know when to use which. 4 quizzes, with one drop, 12 assignments (not similar to quiz/exam questions), midterm, final. Good luck!
Prof. Rashidian is the least understanding and accommodating professor I have had. He has no problem with people failing or dropping the class and will fully blame the class if they don't understand. His exams are the majority of the grade and they are purposely so long that people don't finish. He is manageable but look for a different professor.
Easy course. Show up and pay attention; you'll get an A.
It is so bad, i want to give you a zero, but that's not possible, so I give you a 1
This class took a lot of work. This was my first math class in over 2 years, and while it was manageable, it was not a pleasant experience by any means. I found the lectures mind-numbing and never did understand how we might use what we learned. Could have also been more clear about exam material.
This guy's awful. Among the worst professors that I've had at USC. Tests and quizzes are difficult, little to no partial credit is given. Attendance is mandatory, makes up a small but signifigant portion of your grade, but you will learn absolutely nothing in class. Homework is graded on accuracy and do not help. Take Pizzati, avoid Rashidian.
He's an adjunct lecturer and splits his time between USC and another school so not sure why USC feels a need to keep him around. He is just bad. The content itself is not hard but he makes it near impossible in lecutre. His teaching style is horrible. Put it this way: IF HE CAN GET THIS JOB I SHOULD BE GOLDMAN CEO. I credit my A to Dung our SI.
BEWARE OF RASHIDIAN. This is an objectively easy class - it is stats: learn the formulas and how to use them. That being said, Rashidian is the WORST professor I have had at USC. Usually I provide constructive and professional feedback but Rashidian is an abysmal professor, selfish, obnoxious, and I am embarrassed that I paid for this course.
Rude, unclear at times, sarcastic, very strict about attendance and laptop policies, mediocre lecturer. I believe he wants his students to do well but he is not a good professor. Quizzes can be very difficult and not always reflective of the material gone over in class. The textbook is a better teacher than the professor
Prof. Rashidian is an amazing professor. I really hate statistics but he makes the subject easily digestible. He genuinely cares that his students learn the material and will take the time to help students who actually care. If you're not going to pay attention or don't care about how well you do, do not take his class.
Way too difficult.
Absolutely awful. Struggles to articulate even the simplest concepts in statistics in a digestible way, acts arrogant to students reacting badly to questions. Test questions were unnecessarily hard and required not only a better understanding of the theories and formulas than what he taught, but were artificially made harder through trick questions
I am taking 513 with him and he is literally the most disorganized, annoying professor I've ever met in my entire life (and i'm in grad school so it says a lot). His ways are old-fashioned and controlling, and genuinely does not care about student learning experience, and lowkey abuses his power as a professor. His way of teaching is ineffective.
The materials are honestly very easy and can be done with self-studying. I prefer staying at home and learning about the materials myself than going to his lectures because they are just so confusing. However he doesn't post any exam infos on blackboard which forces you to go to class. His study notes are also very disorganized and full of typos.
Great professor with a good sense of humor. Attending his lectures is helpful but you can review his online notes to make up for it too. Planning to take 318 with him too. He does really care about the performance of his students even though he may not like sound like it.
Best lecturer at USC! Free class
SINGULAR WORST CLASS I've EVER taken. Don't make my mistake, trust the reviews. Everyone in my class had the same experience. Everything from his lectures to the ebook site is possibly the most obscenely difficult way to understand already complex info, & he bans tech use in class, which made it impossible to look up supplemental information. AVOID
Avoid Rashidian
Good lecturer -- thorough + reviews until everyone nods in understanding. He is available to discuss grading & material. He's flexible w grading - u can argue for more points on ur exam if u have a valid explanation. ex: if u think u should b given more points for partial correction cuz XYZ, he'll adjust ur grade w/o being nit picky.
3 midterms + final (all noncumulative) + optional makeup quiz to boost ur midterm grade. If u show significant improvement on ur midterms or show up on most lectures, he'll boost ur grade. He curves the class avg at the end to a B. tough but i actually learned in his class. i found his lectures engaging-he's a GOOD lecturer imo. i liked his sarcasm
Also, he doesn't care abt tech use if you're using it for the class. I used my ipad and phone here n there fine. Given, he won't understand laptop usage in class --"how are u writing notes of graphs + equations efficiently tht way?" Take his class if u want to LEARN, not to take a class for ez A. he gives so much examples + explanations in class.
The worst professor…
Professor Rashidian was a great professor. He gave very clear examples during lectures that were easy to follow and helped with homework. As long as you attend lecture it was easy to keep up with the material. The test questions (multiple choice and longer calculations) are similar to lecture/homework questions and you can have a 1 sided cheatsheet
Class requires a lot of time, but it is honestly super easy if you read the course notes and pay attention during lectures. Exams are near identical to homework/TA session problems, and just require a bit of studying to do well. Rashidian comes across as intense at first, but he genuinely cares about his students and is a great guy.
Rashidian is old school, and can be hard to deal with at first. But so long as you attend every lecture (show up on time!), take copious notes, and solve problem sets diligently, you should be very well set up. Grading is easy so long as you demonstrate some understanding. Read lecture notes thoroughly before tests, and they're straightforward.
Class is all lecture and you must attend every class or you fall behind. The SI is amazing and is the only reason I understood anything. The class consists of tests, quizzes and hw. The hw is graded on accuracy. The content is difficult to understand and requires you put in a lot of work to do well. The class is not awful it's just a lot of work.
Prof Rashidian's class is a challenge, but worth the effort. Attend lectures, use the free textbook, and try tools like Unstuckstudy for study prep. It's tough, but you can do well if you put in the work.
His teaching style is very old school but has clear expectations. He tries his best to engage the class. Huge curve. Not a bad choice.
to be honest, it's not that bad, you just have to study very carefully with all SI resources.
this class was really easy but horrible teaching style and boring lectures. attendance is mandatory .
Yes this class had a huge curve but this guy is always looking to cut corners when teaching. When I would go to his office hours he would make excuses as to why he had to leave, couldn't answer my questions, and tried to get me out of his office as soon as possible (one time because he wanted to watch a soccer match).
Not a great professor, he is not clear in terms of what students need to know.
Unclear in what students need to know.
Get why many people don't like him--his hard of hearing makes answering his questions sometimes difficult. But at the same time he knows his stuff, is kind and cares (althoutgh sometimes can seem rude/curt), dry humor
I really don't understand why Rashidian is still employed. He doesn't record lectures, it is difficult ot understand him, his lecture notes are very shallow (not explained well). I have learned what I needed to in this class through online youtube videos rather than the professor. He always wants to leave office hours early as well.
Every class was a struggle, no one wanted to be there and it was not due to the material.
dont get the hate.freshman+dont have prior statistics knowledge-was scared of taking him bc of reviews.knows what he is talking about+everything in lectures are in hisnotes. class+HW ex's are exam q's.attendance mandatory but worth going to class.always very nice+funny+understanding.never read textbook which i usually do bc profs cannot teach.
Econometrics is hard, no matter who you take it with. Professor Rashidian is honest, which rubs some people the wrong way, especially those who don't want to work. Exams are exactly like the notes and concepts are explained thoroughly. Would recommend to learn 318, and honestly is worth doubling up for 317 to get an understanding of his style.
Every day when walking from the village to main campus, I would walk over the street when the traffic light was green in hopes someone would hit me so I could skip class. Lectures are boring, and his teaching style didn't resonate with me. Attendance mandatory. Doesn't give enough time on exams. It's not horrible, but just choose someone else.
Does attendance sheets. funny guy but his humour is very dry and sarcastic which can rub some people the wrong way. HW takes me hours to finish. Hate that his exams r so long. I don't think I've ever finished a single one lol but somehow still passed w a decent grade.
I tried very hard to do well in this class and ended up having to drop. To do well in this class it must be your #1 priority. I never missed class, took notes, did all the HW's, and studied pretty hard for the quizzes and tests and still ended up dropping. The tests are so hard, not nearly enough time. Worst professor I have ever had.
For those of you who don't know, stats revolves around TABLES (t-tables, z - tables etc) we sat our final today and rashidan DID NOT HAVE TABLES PREPARED and he sent the TA to go and print them out AFTER our exam started. We got the tables ONE hour late. very unfair.
If you work hard, you can get a good grade. Be careful on the exam! I messed up 7a (small calc error) and lost 70% on the whole Q7 since 7b/7c built on it. Don't be on your phone/laptop or zone out—he'll call you out. Dry humor fr. He curves a bit, I think 91 is an A, 87 an A-.
Great prof best guy
unsupportive, lack of guidance, confusing lectures, high expectations, and very unfair. I do not recommend taking this class if you have the choice to.
Rashidian is so underrated... He explains things very well, genuinely wants you to learn and succeed, and his exam questions are honest - exactly like the homework questions, no surprises. He's one of the most responsible professors I've met here at USC, he holds himself to the same standard (if not higher) he asks of his students.
Dear god do not sign up to this class. That was the hardest class I've ever taken. Not only was it incredibly boring, we litterally all got below a 65 on every test and quiz. Do not take this.
Attendance is mandatory, a lot of homework and the content itself is not easy. However, he is very willing to meet at office hours and help you with questions, and posts notes for each lecture. My advice: read the text book (!!!) and go to lecture. He explains concepts very well and makes sure students don't have any questions. Overall nice guy!
Overhated. No tricks, everything covered in lecture is on the tests. Old school but if you show up and take notes the material is not hard
