One of the best classes I have taken. Eskandari is so animated and interesting. He'll make you laugh, he'll make you cry. He is very tough, but definitely worth it!
Eskandari had very enjoyable lectures. His quizzes, and exams are all essays, so that can be tough. But, he is one of the best lecturers I've ever had. He didn't discuss current politics as much as I would've liked, but it was a 101 class.
I had eskandari years ago.. He really put me on the right path to get through school. I would recomend him to everyone. I blanked out during my final in his class, he took me aside, relaxed me, and set me on my way to getting a A in the class.

This class is not easy but if you pay attention you will take a lot of valuable information away with you. Easily one of the best professors @ SBCC.
good teacher, very smart and helpful, his whole class are essays, but just take some time on them and you will do fine. i didn't own the books and i got an A
hard tests, definetely use a tutor. the tests are all essay and he doesn't tell you what's going to be asked on them. great teacher though, passionate and interesting.
I took his online class that was done through another person. Tests were moderate but papers (2 pages once a week based on a video) were graded very hard! If you left something out from the video it was a 0 out of 20.
One of the best teacher I have ever had. He will try to help you in any way he can. He's a good professor, I recommend him. By the way, I took a online class in summer 2004, I never had to write a single paper. Just one mid term and the final.
I didnt have to write any essays either. they were all exams forms, just memorize the material he covers in lecture. enjoyable lecture, smart guy. If you're not retarded you should get a A or B.
great professor. he leaves the research paper and most of the test material up to you to know, but as long as you go to the lectures you know all the material. the class is never boring, he makes it all relevant and interesting. i definately recommend his classes
great professor!tests are hard, but if you study, you'll be fine.he makes the subject interesting.
Professor Eskandari is an organized lecturer but also allocates plenty of time for discussion. His erudition has no effect on his humility. A very kind man and perhaps my most edifying classroom experience. A funny man as well. This is not a class that one takes for fun...expect a rigorous semester.
barely read, got a C. No homework only tests.
I took the online class and the only thing you have to do is take quizes, midterms, and a final. The exams in this class were very hard. Really know the chapters before you take the exams.
Dr. Eskandari is one of the better teachers I have had. His course is anything but easy, however, he makes it fun and does a good job of clarifying the great thinkers' philosophies.
Dr. Eskandari is great! Quizzes may be a little bit tough, but you could easily B.S. it. (Basically he has a reader and if your answers are very left-winged, you will get a good grade, even if you have to fake it..ha.) Eskandari is hilarious and explains things very well-very organized! take it!
He may be a good teacher, but don't take his on-line class. The quizes are extremely hard! The guy requires every single line from the 600-page-book for you to know - seriously!
DON'T TAKE HIS CLASS! It's hard! The tests are essays and VERY hard. He cuts you no slack. It's next to impossible to get an A in his class.
His class was ok. He's easy to pay attention to in class, but his lecture structure is soo unorganized. The only way i had any idea what to study was the review sessions. Tests are essay, if your a good writer you'll get an A. If not too bad.
Online Class. Lots of reading involved. All quizzes are based on every chapter. Have to go over the chapter many times and study material closely. Quizzes from what i remember Were timed. Have to be really motivated to take this.
Excellent lecturer, somewhat biased in his beliefs. A bit difficult to take complete notes in class. I suggest to record them as he told me he did not want my opinion on quizzes or exams, he wanted his words on there. Some preference for PTK members.
He is a wonderful teacher. His class is fast paced and the quizes and tests are hard (essay), but I learned much. He is very smart and a good leacturer. His wit and humor keep the lecture moving. I would take one of his classes again in a minute.
amazing teacher...there's nothing else to say about him except for that he's amazing
Online Summer, Fast paced, 100% quiz class, with an extra credit assignment. It is a tough class for online courses. No papers, no discussion so it's just you and the quiz/multiple choice. I would recomend him for his face2face instead. Great lecturer
This is one of the most brilliant men you'll ever meet. Period.
Eskandari is one of the best lecturers I've had. He is interesting, funny and extremely smart. The class is fairly hard since it is graded on only eassy format tests and papers.
Had Political Theory and Comparative Politics at the same time. Very difficult for a JC...but I loved that...more in tune to a 4 year...great class to prepare for UCSB. Highly recommend him for any class, favorite teacher at City College by far.
He has a great view on the political spectrum. Conservative ****s be warned
Dr. Eskandari is a brilliant man, aside from that he demonstrates a tender heart and sincere interest in his students as individuals. He remains to be the best professor I've had throughout my education. If you are lucky enough to attend SBCC, you must take advantage of the enrichment he provides by enrolling in Polsci 101 and 431.
He is an excellent orator, one of the best ever. However, his work ethic in terms of keeping track of assignments, responding to emails is not very good.
just a great guy! Tough class. After I failed the first test and balled my eyes out, he gave me some great tips on how to improve. If you ever have the opportunity to take him, make sure you do!
I had the wonderful opportunity to bump into him on SBCC campus couple days ago. I took his PoliSci 1 Class @ UCSB and that's what made me decide to pick the major. His classes are spectacular and its one of the most interesting classes I've ever taken. Th
CHILAX people...what else can be said about this amazing professor? he is to awesome
Excellent teacher... likes to interject his own liberal philosophies into his lectures which I found wasteful and time-consuming. We spent an entire class on all the bad things bush has done.... not that i don't agree with him but I didn't take his class
amazing teacher. grade based on midterm final and paper, so not a lot of bs busy work. if you love politics and knowledge of current events take this class. Ive also heard great things about his political theory classes

Excellent teacher. Very demanding class.
Pros: Smart, Funny, Lectures flow easily. Cons: Tough grader, Expects you to know all that he knows.
absolutly amazing prof. I found him to be mainly unbiased and willing to go into depth if asked. WARNING do NOT ask him if he is Liberal/Democrat/Conservative/Republican not only will he not answer your Q but he will also lecture on why he won't answer.
He is the best teacher at city college!!!
One of the hardest instructors I have had thus far. I have been an honor-roll student all through school and am flunking this class! I feel totally disconnected when I take his tests. He is interesting, but you need to take this class as if it's a 5-unit class, not 3-unit. I will be withdrawing and retaking at a later date, Ugh! a 1st for me!
His lectures are incredibly interesting, and he is a great professor, but his class is SOOO hard. His tests are insane, and he's not that big of a help when you go to his office hours. He is passionate about his subject, but is a busy man. Don't take his class unless you're interested in the subject ahead of time or you'll be lost.
Wonderful teacher! He got me interested in his class so much that I changed my major to political science. If you want to learn political scince he is the best teacher.
WARNING, not for the faint of heart!!! If you think you know anything going into this class you will be humbled by his depth of knowledge. Eskandari is one of the most brilliant teachers I have ever taken! Tests are extremely difficult essay questions and no study guide is provided to help. Highly reccomend the class if your up to the challenge.
He's enthusiastic and very knowledgable. He stays up to date and applies current events to the class. He has a objective view but is honest about his own political position. All in all good guy and good class.
Do NOT take his online course. He does not create any type of interaction within the class regarding the chapter we are learning and the class average on his 1st quiz was a 72%.
Eskandari is really good at what he is teaching but DONT TAKE A CLASS WITH HIM! He's class is EXTREMELY hard,no study questions, tough readings etc.I am an A student and I dont know how to survive this one!
Anyone who thinks Eskandari is tough and claims to be 'an A student' is just a typical **** without a brain. Just because you've been able to get through your other teachers' -morons- classes doesn't mean this is the same; you'll have to read -oh my- and prepare yourself by thinking -oh my. If it's tough then you're unfit to live by my standard
The class isn't hard, but you do actually have to STUDY and THINK and BE PREPARED and not sound like a moron! This seems to be difficult for most city college students!!. Classes with Eskandari hold students to the standard which they SHOULD be held by all the teachers at SBCC.Will prepare you for higher college. Excellent. Take him.
Eskandari IS hard! I mean cmon now, yeah if you are satisfied with an C or an B then you can pull that off by just keeping up with the work. But those who want an A have to work their asses off for this guy!
Eskandari is really intelligent and his class/lectures are really interesting as well as the thinkers we study BUT for god sake give your students STUDY QUESTIONS!If POLSC isnt your major, DONT take a class with this guy! Its DEMANDING in every way and more like a 5 unit class instead of a 3 unit.
Yes I agree, study questions would really help but I have to say that he is one of the most brilliant and interesting instructors at SBCC. Demanding class, his exams are really tough but you really do learn a lot. Paper is interesting to write but time consuming START EARLY PEOPLE!
One of the few classes at CC that is actually near the university level. At times treated us like little children and was degrading but was actually frustrated at the little effort that CC students would give in my particular class. Just go to class 100%, take notes on everything, i read the book but was prob. not necces. just what he points to= A.
Eskandari is the best teacher at city. The man should be a required teacher for every student. This class is intriguing and you actually learn a lot. I think he is a fair grader, and i appreciate the university quality expectations. He prepares you for a university. plus he is halarious, charming, and terribly cute!
This was maybe the hardest class i have ever taken... he is a great teacher and a real smart man...but he demands a lot from his students...over half the class drops in the first 2 weeks...and about 10 people didnt even show up for the final... i got 22/50s on both my tests but still have a B in the class... if u are willing to work...
Very interesting class to take, awesome instructor who is hard as always but fair, although too much talk about current events instead of meaningful lectures that prepares you for the exams. I have to say that I will miss Dr. Eskandari but by the end of the semester I was so sick of his ups and downs that I was glad to be done. Take his class and l
Dr.Eskandari is the GREATEST instructor ever and I have learned sooo much by taking his Polsc 132 and 131! He is so interesting to listen to and you are never bored during his classes. He is simply brilliant!I really miss him and I wish I was taking Polsc 121 with him and not Haslund. Take ANY class you can with him and study hard!
Brilliant, passionate, european-educated, and, as I found out, very kind. Attend class and take good notes because you will need them for exams. He really works to make you catch his enthusiasm, and it becomes a wonderful experience. You will understand international politics!
Dr. Eskandari is the reason I stayed in college and quit drinking. I cannot recommend his classes enough, but do not pretend that you can coast through the semester. Santa Barbara may be Club Med, his work load is not! The "B" I received from my 3rd class with him stung more than any grade I've ever had, but I deserved that. He expects your best!
Dr. Eskandari is by far one of the most interesting teachers and people. he is the reason i have succeeded so much in City College. i have learned so much from the multiple corses i have taken from him. HE IS FABULOUS
He is one of the greatest teachers i have had at silly college... I have never learned so much in one class and with such clarity.. He is enthusiastic about teaching and is hilarious! You almost forget you are learning..
excellent teacher. fun. hard but fair.
Extremely difficult teacher, rarely uses textbook, teaches a lot of things not remotely related to course, tests bear little relation to lessons, is on a pulpit as an iranian monarchist, doesnt like helping students, only a midterm&final, berates students, calls names&uses profanity, occasionally funny, doesnt personally grade exams, never in office
he is one of the most intimidatingly smart professors at city college.. his class compared to others feels like a real university level class.. primary source reading and extremely complex interpretations are what are in store... not recommended for slackers or students who wish to stay religiously convicted... highly enjoyable class
Eskandari was a very good teacher who knows his stuff. Uses real life examples to support the textbook. He is crystal clear in what he wants you to learn, and he tells you how to go about learning it. If you just do all of his assignments and read the chapters you will do very well in this class. Showing up to class is mandatory.
he is a great teacher but only take his class if you are a serious political science student. if you are like me and am only taking the class because it is a requirement then be prepared to work really hard. his tests are ridiculous. his idea of a quiz is writing constantly for the entire class. he expects a lot from his students
This professor kicked my ass and made me a better student. It is rare to find a professor that will actually inspire you to try! Take copious notes and you will be fine. Scanning the assigned reading is also recommended. He is a hard grader but offers extra credit opportunities and if you make an appointment, he is usually very accessible.
best professor I've ever had, people will gripe he is a hard grader and has hard tests, but he is willing to talk with you about them and there is some extra credit. He expects you to read and know the book even if he doesn't cover it but his class is engaging and he is one of the only professors who has truly challenged me to be a better student.
He is a wonderful professor, probably the best at SBCC. He is extremely bright and very funny. His class is hard and everyone will complain that he grades too hard but he is just preparing you for transferring. You must take his class and be ready to work hard. It is worth the hard work and there is a tutor to help.
Eskandari is one of the best, if not the best teacher at SBCC. Lectures are funny and interesting and consist of ALL of the material on the two quizzes/midterm final. If you attend lectures and take notes/pay attention, YOU WILL GET AN A IN THIS CLASS. The book is supplemental to what he lectures on in class.
Dont let these comments deceive you!! he is an extremely hard teacher!! I got an A in the class but i worked my butt off. The tutor is extremely helpful. If you like poli sci this class is for you but if you dont you are better off taking history or something else. the grader grades really really hard on tests and papers
Very hard class. His lectures are great (entertaining, funny, current), but his grading and his tests are very hard. I worked as hard as I could and got an A. I recommend Eskandari if you are very interested in PolySci or if you are a extremely hard worker.
He seems smart, but his answers were somewhat ambiguous. I took his online class and most of the stuf we were learning was common sense. The quizes were off of the book website, so the answers were right in front of you. online is a good way to learn from him i should have taken his on campus class. i had to drop cause i missed the midterm. =(
Attend Every Lecture, take notes, memorize a few important points from the book that he didn't lecture on and will stand out = get an A. I got a 34/50 and 44/50 on the quizzes and got an A, there is hope for you all. Listen to EXACTLY what he says, he makes it CRYSTAL CLEAR and hates students who can't do that. Overall fantastic & amazing teacher!
Took his class online and would never take a class from him again. He didn't even have the book with him. Quizzes were kinda hard. 50 questions in an hour over 60-80 pages of information. Didn't respond to some of the classes questions about tests or assignments. Arrogant. I don't know how I pulled an A. Very liberal book too.
Hands down the best Prof on the SBCC Political Science Dept. I'm at UCSB now writing decent papers because of the foundation I learned from this PhD. Highly recommended.
Hands down a fantastic professor. No question there. My only gripes were the difficulty (which in the end helped me as a student learn valuable skills) and that he uses a 'reader' to grade papers. He also does not provide office hours and has instead tutors do this for him, which you'll wish he hadn't done due to the demands of this course.
This professor is tough. I was taking an online class with him. He told that one must drop out from the class if he/she is going to turn his/her paper 1 minute late!
He's a great teacher, and is very passionate about what he teaches. He knows his materials and has a long history in the study of political science. his classes are hard and you have to read! but if you can focus and do the work its a great experience and will prepare you for University Life.
I can't believe that nobody has commented on what a condescending man he is... it's extremely difficult to ignore in class, if you don't enjoy having you're intelligence insulted on a daily basis, do not take this class.
VERY passionate teacher. Tests are difficult, but if you attend EVERY class and keep up with the readings, you'll do ok. not a class you can cut every other week and turn in late assignments. If you are easily offended by profanity DONT take this class because he curses constantly in every lecture.
He makes the class fun and more interesting than the text book
makes it really interesting and is alot better than some polisci teachers
Amazing teacher. He made this class fun and interesting. The tutor Kay is awesome too and really helped me a lot. I learned so much in this class. I ended up getting a B in his class and am really happy with that! Be prepared to write 5 papers through out the semester and have 2 midterms and 2 quizzes. lots of work but i learned a lot! take him!
One of the brightest guys teaching at city college. Difficult class but worth the challenge if you're interested in the subject. This guy is seriously educated... you'll learn a lot.
I had Eskandari for several classes during my time at SBCC. If political science is your deal, then take as many classes with him as you can. He is very difficult, and you have a lot of work, but you actually learn a lot unlike most SBCC classes. You will be prepared for upper division classes when you transfer, which is the point, right?
One of the best Professors at SBCC. Tough, you bet...real world demands on you and your work ethic. Work hard and you will succeed. If you want to test your academic "chops" then Dr. Eskandari's classes are a must! I don't even know what my grade is yet still I recommend this Professor.
legit class with a legit teacher he knows what he is talking about and will open your eyes to the world as a whole
I was really excited to take this course. I enrolled in one other class this summer, DR.Tom Mahoneys' AJ- 101 class, (Great class, I got an A ). POL-101 What a nightmare! When I saw my first grade on his essay exam was an F! and I have a 4.0 GPA, I didn't get it. He made several inappropriate comments during his lectures ! Good Luck ! !!
One of the best teachers at SBCC. Extremely knowledgeable, and humorous. Study hard and read the textbook, do the extra credit and go to office hours if you have questions and you will get an A. Great class, one of the best professors at SBCC.
love him!! completely changed my major after one of his classes!!
Best teacher I have ever encountered! If you are interested in political science, you should take a class with him.
Worst class I have ever taken. Failed the first two tests, made flash cards, studied, re-read the chapter, took the practice tests over and over. EMAILED HIM NUMEROUS TIMES FOR HELP AND HE WAS USELESS! DIdn't receive grades back on papers for weeks. I didn't even know my grades on 2/3 papers going into the mid term! hORRIBLE HORRIBLE.
He is a REALLY funny teacher. He keeps you engaged and laughing throughout the whole class! He's faily difficult, however, and if you don't read the book then you'll really ahve trouble on his quizes and midterms. He has high standards for his students and expects a lot but don't be discouraged because he makes the class very interesting.
BEST TEACHER AT SBCC really well spoken and makes the material interesting and relevant to your life. take his class you wont regret it the guy below me doesn't know what he is talking about
Best professor at sbcc he is extremely knowledgeable he could be teaching at a 4 year institution if he wanted he is better than any prof at UCSB if you want an easy class dont take him but if youre ready for college level learning he is the professor to take i am a pols major and will be taking him for all my pols classes
This online class was the most frustrating class for me. There was no communication from him during the course..never answered e-mails, . I had 3 papers submitted(for 7 weeks) and ungraded before he graded the first paper submitted. He didn't follow his posted syllabus for material to be tested upon. Should have taken this on campus.
Guy is awesome and knows what he is talking about. When he gets mad about something in current events, it is hilarious. He goes off, though it could offend some.
Great speaker that educates and entertains.
If you want an easy class, don't take this class
I took this class online and over the summer. It was so hard. The quizzes are very difficult and I never did better than an 80% on them. The book is used a lot, that's were he gets his question and from the quizzes you take in the book. VERY HARD CLASS!!!!! For me only 4 quizzes a midterm and final. Not much room to screw up or forget to study!!!!!
best prof at sbcc!! his class is always fun and entertaining. u cant go wrong with him. hard class though, 2 quizes midterm final and paper. must study hard, but he is totally worth it.
this "dude" is making me love political science more and more for each day! hell yeah!!!!
he is the best teacher i have had at sbcc. while going to class makes a huge difference and is extremely entertaining, it's not a big deal if you miss it. his class is like a stand up comedy. i learned so much from him. you have to do the readings to do well on quizzes. it's all well worth it though! take his class! you will learn a ton.
Great teacher! I took Comparative Politics and Political Philosophy with him and I learned more in those classes than any others. Not an easy teacher though. I wouldn't recommend anything other US Gov with him unless you're seriously interested in the subject. You will learn a lot if you put in the effort!
This review is in regards to his online course. I don't know how his class is in person. First, his grading scale is flawed horribly. Final is 40% of grade, midterm 20%. 100 questions, 100 minutes for each. Second, his involvement in the course is ridiculously low.At 1 point he didnt log in for over 20 days! I ended up with a B. AVOID OL CLASS!
Hands down best teacher at sbcc. He makes class hilarious and enjoyable. He doesn't go off on tangents (that often) and stray from the subject matter like Martorana does. You do have to do the reading (from both textbooks) to get good grades on the quizzes and exams but the reading is interesting and not hard to take in.
Wonderful teacher. He is very passionate about the subject he teaches. He is also delightfully amusing... the class was never boring. He made it easy to learn the material. ALWAYS use the textbook though. That should be one of your most valued resources!
I went into his class with much doubt about politics and after taking it I am a more conscientious citizen. You gotta keep on top of your stuff for this class, it's not easy! I needed more time on tests but this is me whining. Just to warn some folks he does use a lot of vulgar language.
He has been one of the most influential teachers I have have had in all my years of school. He was my first college professor and he steered me in the right track to get me on course to earning all my degrees and getting my head in the right place. I would recommend him to everybody! NOT AN EASY PROFESSOR, but amazingly helpful!
Hes super funny and makes political science fun. This class does require allot of studying and has a large essay at the end of the year (12 pages double spaced) but you can do it. Its very managable
Entertaining teacher but man is this class difficult!
Not an easy class, never quite know when things are due, or what exactly he wants to heard on written tests. Class is a lot of fun though this guy is like the foreign robin williams.
His summer class is easily the best experience in a class I've ever had. He comments on current events and makes things relevant and exciting. NOTE: he is really condescending in a hilarious way. If you are fooling around, chances are you will get made fun of. Be prepared to care. Feeds off audience energy, so take a bigger class for maximum lulz.
Course way to difficult for an intro to PoliSci.
Very opinionated and likes to rant about stuff the entire class... Did not learn much at all. Had a huge class project without any real direction on what to do. Turned in multiple assignments without any idea on grade. Martorana is not much better. In my opinion, the Poli-Sci dept. at SBCC needs a tune up.
Funniest teacher ever and LOVED going to class. I wish I could take this class over and over because I loved it so much. Not too bad of a class either! Excellent teacher
this teacher is beyond ridiculous! because of one assignment that was not submitted due to a technical problem, I was dropped from the class and this was after I let him know of the incident.
Eskandari is a hoot and a riot. Extremely opinionated man, expect only a small portion of class time to be on the actual subject. I like the man, but his teaching is vague. I didn't understand what exactly I had to do in any of the assignments including tests. Semi-difficult class for LowerDiv. Expect to rely on txtbk for actual course learning.
Eskandari is very interesting to talk to and I've learned a lot during his class both about political science and the world. However, Eskandari is also INCREDIBLY demanding. Make sure to do reading for each class and cite everything you say in class. Very ambiguous grading and testing requiring a lot of individual effort and leading to frustration
You could study for hours and hours and still not ace his class. He's hard and doesn't even grade his own students papers.
I would say not to take him unless you plan on being a political science major, but then again he is the reason i switched to polisci. most of the poor ratings on him are probably people who think they deserve an A in every class just because they showed up most of the time. Lecture is key in all his classes. Show up+take notes+study=A
He is a good teacher. You have to watch out though because if you do not turn in any of your homework in on time, he will drop you and you will not be able to get a refund. He does this only after the refund date closes. Just turn all homework in on time and you will do ok.
Good teacher but not online.Tests are to hard and cannot understand them. He never answered e-mails and was condescending.
He's one of the coolest and funniest professors I've ever had, but his class is very challenging. He doesn't go over the quiz material, but he gives you the Final prompts. I wouldn't recomend his class uless you're serious about political science
The class is entertaining because he's really funny, but don't expect it to be easy! you really need to study if you want an A.
I took his class online and it was easier they I thought. I felt completely on my own as far as learning. No forum interaction or lectures like other classes. The homework is easy, mainly summarize parts of the book or news articles. A few exams and final is only on last three chapters covered. A very fair grader, I got bumped up to a B.
Work hard and you should be fine. You'll be happy you did.
Took the class online, I am sure I would have dropped had I ever needed to deal with this professor face-to-face. Extremely condescending, rude, and unnecessarily harsh in his e-mails. Very harsh grading with little to no explanation as to why points were marked off. I absolutely hated his class.
Horrible professor. Demeaning and rude. He uses foul language constantly. He's very opinionated about his political views (liberal) and makes fun of the conservative politicians. Never mind correcting him when he's wrong--you will get made fun of. He never responds to emails. He also changes the date on quizzes and tests a lot. I HATE this class!!!
Take at least one of his classes. Eskandari basically is SBCC. He's been part of the university/college community for over a decade. His knowledge of the world is deep. It will be challenging and different but you will remember his lessons forever. The man is impossible to not respect and difficult to not like. Check your arrogance at the door tho.
Best teacher at SBCC hands down. He expects students to be knowledgeable and can be demanding but you want to learn and be able to have an intelligent conversation with him.
I had him for 101, 131, & 132 he was one of the best professors at SBCC. I just transfered to UCLA & the upper divs that I have taken have been comparable to/easier than his class. His classes are hard but he does a great job of preparing you to transfer & he really cares about his students. Work hard & when you do well you'll know you earned it.
Charater assasinates those who doesn't agree with him... like a child (or a Fox News pundit). He obviously has lots of knowledge, and preaches about speaking up for yourself, and then puts down anyone that disagres with him without having a real conversation at all. If you take him to learn about US GOV, go for it. Dont go if interested in Politics
Political Science isn't part of my major, i just took the class for general ed purposes. He's a great teacher, very funny and straight to the point. I got a B in the class which is pretty good for someone who wasn't even sure on their political stance before the course.
He's a good guy and very interesting, but he won't teach you anything that you need to know for the tests. The midterm and final were super hard because he grades ridiculously hard. When I went to talk to him about why I received the grade I had received from my midterm, he could not give me a straight answer. Do no recommend this class.
Firstly: do not take this class for the grade, or as a requirement, take American History instead; this class is incredibly hard. That said, Prof. Eskandari is the figurehead of SBCC, and is a passionate, thought-provoking, endearing professor who truly cares about his students. If you are interested in Political Science, this class is a must.
He's really entertaining and goes off on interesting tangents. I found the material dull and uninteresting despite the lively professer. He also will be unnecessarily rude and demeaning if he catches you doing anything other than taking notes.
I have to say I had high hopes for this class. Not only was it much more difficult than I feel it needed to be (and I put a lot of effort in) but he was the MOST rude professor I have ever had. Don't bother seeing him for clarification, for he will make you feel stupid. He is a very arrogant teacher. Avoid.
At first, I thought this was going to be a good class, but half way into the semester I got very disappointed. He is unclear about what you should include in you midterm and essay, I like him, but not how he teaches. I am interested in this topic, but he doesn't consider other peoples opinions and judgments.
He is a highly respected teacher at the college, and friends with Oprah the only thing is I have no idea how that is possible. He seems to act like he knows a lot about his subject but he is very unclear about midterm and essay. It was a slightly frustrating class but.. I passed
If you don't keep up with the reading you'll be confused for most of the class. He bases all of his class discussions off of your readings. He's a little intimidating but definitely knows a lot about what he's talking about and is always ready to have an intelligent conversation about the topic. Make sure you have your books at all times.
He's one the the smartest and most entertaining professors I've taken. Very likeable person. If you take him and his lectures seriously, you will do just fine and may very well enjoy it.
Prof Eskandari is one of the best teachers on campus. If you want an easy A, or don't want to put in any effort, don't take his classes. He is not interested in giving handouts, hence the vagueness on test content. His lectures are enjoyable and, not being a poli sci major, I found the content he teaches relevant to life. Highly recommend him.
Prof Eskandari is one of the best professors I have ever had. Take any class you can with him. He is so passionate about this field and such a likable guy that I never missed a class in the 2 classes I had with him. Do the reading or you will be lost and he will call you on it. Truly an amazing teacher, wish there were more like him.
He is very strict. He expects everyone to show up to class. He freaks out on exam days and his quizzes are way too hard. If you read the book and go to class you should do fine. He is also very funny and loves making fun of Republicans. Definitely take his class if you want a wild ride.
Doctor Eskandari is one of the best professors I have ever had. His lectures are always interesting you will not want to miss class! His midterms and finals are not easy but if you do the reading and he can tell you have put in effort towards the class you will be fine. Super surprised at all the negative comments. I truly loved his classes!
Professor Eskandari is engaging, intelligent, and knows what he is talking about. His class is not easy to pass, but you will be greatly rewarded by spending the time and effort to do well in his class.
This was my first lecture hall, so maybe I wasn't prepared. But I struggled with this class. He was a hard grader and his quizzes are pretty difficult. If you give a valid effort you will be rewarded with a decent grade. He is hard to understand and his jokes are mediocre. He really likes his subject, but that doesn't make you a good teacher.
I am a 4.0 student, I have never been so perplexed as to what he was looking for in his essay exams (midterm and final). I consider myself very thorough, but apparently I missed the mark only got a C, I did enjoy his lectures, he's very professional, just unclear, unfortunately, I have to say better to take another professor.
One of my favorite professors I've had so far. Class was very engaging and he really gives you scope to study what you like. Make sure to make friends with him if you can, that can make the difference in the grade. He wants to be impressed, and if you can do that you will be golden.
After taking PS101,131, and 132 with this man, I believe I am finally able to give some advice. The only advice I wish to give anyone, however, is simple. Don't be scared, take the class, and try your hardest!
Tough Class!!! but interesting prof! Do all of the extra credit assignments he offers!!! seriously.. it can help your final grade!! (i would NOT take this class for fun.. hell no)
Definitely one of the toughest classes I've taken at CC. He's very knowledgable, but can be a little intimidating. Basic knowledge of American government can really help and make sure to speak up in lecture. It was hard but worth it!
I don't know my grade yet but this professor is excellent. He loves what he does and it shows. First time I've ever looked FORWARD to lecture. Keep up on your reading and participate!! Have fun!
Loved him! I looked forward to every class & really was inspired. The quizes are on the book & his midterm/final are on book & lectures. You must study a lot but it's worth it. He did give 8 final questions prior to test and then pulled two for the final.I got a B after not being in school for 8yrs & completing the class in half the normal time
Worst professor at City College. He does not read or really grade any of the exams and teaches too many units to give any attention to his students. All you do during class is whack off about things--don't bother doing the reading. He says he is hard but he is not. If you wanna kill time, ask him what he thinks of Greenpeace..."unicorns."
Very Particular about everything, takes his assignments way to serious for a 101 class at a community college.
Really knows what he's talking about and easy to listen to - good lecturer! Makes me look forward to the classes. DEFINITELY do the readings though! You'll get really far behind and won't get any class participation points if you don't know whats going on.
I wouldn't retake his class unless you plan on majoring in PoliSci. Its really hard and your whole grade is based on 1 quiz, MT, research paper, and final. He thinks hes all that and people will tell you he is awesome because he curses so much in his lectures. He has no idea how to teach a GE course. He also can be rude if you ask simple questions
Worst online class I have ever taken. Not helpful and extremely unclear. One example, if you email him with a question about an assignment he may or may not reply to you after the due date with a condescending reply.
He is an amazing, and intelligent man, but I would not wish his class on my worst nightmare. His lectures are good but meant as a continuation to the textbook. He does not review, he doesn't teach the book, but expects you to be self directed and give you more insight to the readings. Gives you a lot to think about in regards to our system
I took this class online. All of the answers to the quizzes, midterm, and final are online. I did absolutely no weekly reading. The professor is not helpful whatsoever. Don't even bother emailing him, you'll be lucky if you get a response. Papers were hard for me. Only reason this class was "easy" was because the answers were online.
All the people who leave negative posts are bitter about the fact that this wasn't a walk through GE course. Eskandari is definitely one of the most brilliant, hilarious, and knowledgable professors I will ever have. He knows EXACTLY what he is talking about and ensures that if you come to his lectures, you will to. Not that much work at all.
The most arrogant person I have ever met. if you disagree with him, he will try and shut you down. Especially if you say anything good about any kind of republican idea. he hates guns so do not pick that as your final essay! he compare hunting to "Killing Jews in Auschwitz"! not appropriate for a so called "Educator"!
Mr. Eskandari was an amazing professor! While he isn't a teacher you can push over he is very informative and his lectures are entertaining. He really cares about the subject and makes his students care about it too.
Dr. Eskandari is probably my favorite teacher ever. He is inspiration, engaging and flat out brilliant. At times he can appear standoffish, but he genuinely cares about his students to a degree that you rarely see in other educators (less so his 101 class than his others). His classes truly changed my life.
The guy is a legend. You will not likely meet a more influential nor intelligent person in your lifetime. Leave your ego at home, show respect, don't try to out-wit him or he will crush you, and be a sponge- soak up all that you can. Get on his good side and doors will open for you.
Is very passionate about political science but is very arrogant & self centered. Don't bother emailing because he doesn't respond and is rarely in his office. Sit in the front because his writing isn't legible.
Before class started we had a LOOOONG intro email. Lectures-yawn, falling asleep. He has literally NO leeway for taking tests early or late. None. No excuses-not even if mom's in hospital. Unbelievably arrogant. Rarely responds to email. Having a hard time in class? Too bad, figure it out on your own. On campus might be ok but DON'T do online.
I took Dr. Eskandari's Political Thinking course when I was 19 and was hardly ready for it. There were a lot of older students and very sharp minds. I was swimming with sharks, but I listened closely in the brilliant lectures, studied the words of the thinkers we focused on and was able to participate in the discussions a bit. Very inspirational.
He was a good teacher, very funny, but his class was very hard to pass. However, even for someone as uneducated in political science as me, I managed to learn a hell of a lot during the summer session. I would recommend him as a teacher because even if it is super difficult, you certainly will learn, and never forget. I enjoyed it. 1010.
I like him. He is very acknowledgeable and has good intentions. He is intimidating, and sometimes hard to approach. I am now taking ps 131 and he wants us to talk but he isn't afraid to shut you down which makes it hard to speak up. 101 is a little easier but it does help to have a little background or interest in the subject. He's good but hard.
I wouldn't recommend taking this online, I tried one summer session and had to drop, but I was also in another class and working. Took it again in the spring in person and I had a hard time paying attention to his lectures, but he's hilarious. I didn't study much and got an A but I know others who studied much more and barely passed. Hard final.
I took pols101 online with him. Its pretty straight forward. A few short writing assignments, a few longer writing assignments, and 2 tests. Tests are straight out of the book. Do the reading and you'll be fine.
Eskandari's passion convinced me to stick through my major. He is pretty blunt but hilarious. Classes are not easy but if you want to expose yourself to some real education, take his classes. He holds students to high standards as a good professor should.
I was really dreading this class but I enjoyed it so much thanks to professor Eskandari. He is so knowledgeable, hilarious, and he has no filter it's so great. I thoroughly enjoyed sitting through his lectures and I've learned so much from him. Read his book with the lecture notes and read the chapters and the midterm will be easy.
He expects a lot from his students and doesn't tolerate excuses. Work hard, do the reading, and take notes during the lectures and you are in for a wonderfully rich and useful intro to Political Science. I loved his class and found his lectures on the subject and on life in general very engaging.
Eskandari is a funny and very knowledgeable professor, but his POL101 class was very difficult for me. he treated my class like we were high schoolers, very condescending and many times the lectures were him literally lecturing us like we were misbehaving puppies. it seemed every day he was in a bad mood. I barely passed.
He leans way more too the liberal side which sometimes can be tough to listen to if you share different views. Oh, also, if you share a different view point than him don't bother saying it because he'll debate with you and make you feel stupid. Funny but sometimes extremely rude, I left hallway through most of the lectures
cares deeply for his students. get ready to read. amazing lectures.
This class is work. Take good notes, read both books, prepare for the paper and exams in advance. Everything is very clear, and an A is achievable. Take this class seriously and you will learn a ton!
A true gentleman and a scholar. The man has such presence and charisma that it is a pleasure to simply share his company. Be warned though, professor Eskandari has little patience for those not willing to work. If you think that you get a free ride in his class you're mistaken.
As are almost non-existant. Class is pretty straight forward. He gives final exam questions at the beginning of the term; print them and highlight in the notes what is relevant to which question. He gives one research paper which is also assigned in the beginning of the term so you have time. Exam questions are extremely specific. GOOD LUCK.
Do the work, attend lectures, take notes and you'll pass.
Entire grade based off 5 things: 1 quiz, a midterm, final exam, research paper, & attendance. He gives you the final exam questions and paper prompt at the beginning of the semester so you have plenty of time- take advantage of that because he's a tough grader. Don't miss class, take good notes, read, see the tutors & you can get an A (85-100%)
Prof. Eskandari-Qajar is an amazing teacher and gives really amazing lectures. You will not want to take this class if you have conservative views, he really digs into Donald Trump. On the other hand, this class is HARD. There are basically three grades: Midterm, Paper, and Final (with a quiz thrown in there). Attend class, take good notes.
Not going to lie, his class is really hard. It's important that you show up to class and take notes on his lectures. Take advantage of seeing a tutor for this class as well. He's a good professor, you just have to go the extra mile to do well in his class.
If you want the hardest grader of all time, he's perfect. Never gotten such a bad grade in my life and heard a lot of my fellow class mates say the same. Not usually very critical of my teachers but I really don't recommend him to anyone.
This professor requires you to come to lectures by having a sign in sheet because if he didn't there would really be no reason to come. He will come in and talk about whatever he wants and then give you an incredibly difficult midterm. Stay away.
Honestly, he does get off topic in his lectures a bit but his midterm is literally outlined in the notes he gives you. If you read, take notes and just go see the tutor once or twice you will do fine in this class. He gives you the final questions on the first day of class, so you have the whole semester to prepare. One 8-10 page paper
Amazing lectures. A bit long winded sometimes and definitely not a lot of chances for class participation. Come to class prepared and don't expect to bs your way through exams. All of his exam questions are outlined in the little notes on govt book. Went to his office for help with my paper, super helpful
He was a tough teacher, the learning is all on your own. Dropped this class 5 minutes after taking the midterm. Unless you know a lot about politics, don't take this class with a thought of passing.
Toughest grader EVER. I'll give it to him he taught us during crazy election season but still. Midterm and exam is to write an essay based off HEAVY reading. Difficult if you're not interested in politics and sometimes lectures were wasted on him rambling. Somehow passed but the class needs to be restructured. Gave extra credit
If you're not into politics, don't take Dr. Eskandari. If you are into politics... TAKE ALL OF HIS CLASSES. He is old-school and has high expectations, but is deeply knowledgeable about politics and has a unique sense of humor. His classes will turn you into a better student.
He's a great teacher, but too advanced for an intro class. If you didn't know some "basics" you basically calls you stupid. Midterm was nothing he told us to study for. He goes on rants half the class time. It's not impossible to pass but you need to work for it. advice: stay caught up on the reading or else you're doomed.
Dr. Eskandari is the most amazing political science professor you will run into. I won't lie, he's a tough grader, and will not just give you an A, you will have to really earn it. He's a great teacher, and holds as much respect as someone can in his field. Take him if you get the chance, he'll change your life. He's hilarious and an amazing prof.
STUDENT BEWARE- this man is obviously very unprofessional. He advantages only the students who are "under his wing" and travel with him to the capitol. I have a philosophy about professors- while you may know your stuff, if you're unavailable and unresponsive via email, you are not abiding by obvious teaching standards. Would not recommend.
It's hard to take notes when he doesn't write anything down. He is a good man, but for intro undergrad classes he acts like you're at a UC. You MUST read the articles he posts on facebook or beware of being humiliated in class. Switched my major after taking all of his classes. I hated going to class, and started having anxiety. You do learn a lot.
Brilliant. My fav prof who could be teaching at the most elite institution if he wanted. Admittedly, his upper div classes are more interesting and get more leeway but he will always be fair and prepare you for higher ed. He is extraordinarily kind but is strict when it comes to basic requirements. He encourages students to think for themselves.
Probably the best teacher I have ever had. POLS 101 is the only class I genuinely wake up and look forward to going to. He is a brilliant man and has hilarious lectures. Stay up on the readings, GO TO CLASS, and actively take notes and you'll be fine. Class is two online quizzes, one midterm, a final and a research paper, so everything does matter.
The worst teacher I have ever had. Online classes are difficult but his class was insane. No modules to follow, no lectures, NOTHING., just read your 4 boring chapters every 2 weeks and make sure you get the book he wrote. Quizzes goes from one thing to another, and his paper grading is horrible. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS!!!
Professor Eskandari was a great teacher! His lectures are very thought provoking and he cares a lot about his students. He is sometimes harsh and a tough grader, but its because he holds everyone at a high standard. Only two quizzes, a paper, midterm and final, so not a lot of breathing room, but do the work and you'll be rewarded.
Interesting guy, very specific way of teaching. Comes to class late and just fills the lecture talking about whatever. Does not prepare lectures. Exams are just based on the readings which or NOT covered in class time. You're pretty much of on your own. Would NOT take again!!
Laughing at all the mixed reviews about this Professor. Honestly, if you take this guy's class, he will make you work for it. His grading is very tough and he expects very much out of his students. HOWEVER, Eskandari is an amazing man and l learned something new from him every day. He is a brilliant man who could be teaching anywhere!
Once you figure out what he likes and doesnt like on assignments, youre pretty much set for the semester. READ THE ECONOMIST, its literally like your Bible for the class and will help you out on the midterm and final. Cite every single article!!!
Eskandari is the best professor and lecturer ever. He changed my view of many things and I actually miss him and his classes every day.
Monotone voice, rants, yells, can be hard to understand, doesnt clarify well,
I spent over 13 years in school, and Dr Eskandari was hands down my favorite teacher through it all. I was young and dumb when I first came to SBCC, and Dr. Eskandari took me under his wing and taught me how to learn. I am forever in debt to Dr. Eskandari
Lectures were intersting sometimes but he doesn't prepare, but didn't relate to the quizzes, midterms, or tests. Feels like an online class, and he made me want to change my major. Awful man.
I have very mixed reviews on this professor. While he has a great sense of humor and make class entertaining, he is the toughest grader I have yet to come across. Political Science is my major and he made me question if I really want to go though with it, and others as well. Study HARD. But, I would reccomend his discussion class.
You DO LEARN A LOT with him but he's TOUGH. Best teacher in terms of knowledge, unfortunately if you do have a job and are not FT student chances are you will fail. Got a B on 101 but failed 131 and 132 :( My GPA was ruined but I did learn a lot anyway. I want to retake them but having a job makes it really hard, very demanding, UC level definitely
best class I have taken. he does have favorites so just show up every day and contribute a little to lectures. read the news to keep up and contribute to his daily tangents and you will be A1. He is one of the smartest professors at CC. I learned more in his one-semester class than I learned in my entire high school career, greatest professor ever!
101 is a BLAST for those who are interested in learning more about gov. However, you are expected to pull your weight! Take-up ALL extra credit opportunities, do the reading, read the news, and ask questions. Online exams are timed, be PREPARED. Dr. Eskandari doesnt f around so just be a good student and you will succeed and love his lectures!
I think with Dr. Eskandari you'll either love him or you don't. Personally I thought that his class was amazing, I learned so much and have a deeper understanding about political science than I thought I would get. Read the text-book, it'll seriously help you in this class. He will call out questions and not back down until they are answered.
Eskandari is an excellent professor. He REALLY knows what he's talking about and his humor helps. You'll get out what you put in.
While hes very smart and has a good sense of humor, he doesnt cover the material and you dont learn that much. Hes very unorganized, indifferent and unprofessional. Wouldnt recommend you to take this class.
Awesome professor who is definitely overqualified to be teaching the political science classes. Be prepared to work for your grade, but Doctor Professor Eskandari will cut you some slack if you show that you are serious and willing to put in a solid effort. Read, go to extra credit, and you'll probably end the semester with a desirable grade.
Really strict about phones and laptops. Expects you to have some previous knowledge about politics/government. LOTS of reading. tries to be funny. A little hard to keep up if its your first poli sci class.
This has been by far the worst class I have ever taken. Take any teacher but this one. He acts like he's teaching graduate students, when its a 101 course. He believes himself to be superior to everyone, starting most classes with rants and loves to put down the students thinking he's being funny. Terrible grader and extremely hard tests.
Do not take this professor. He has a good personality, but the quizzes, midterm, and final are absolutely impossible and these are the only thing that your grade depends upon aside from a 10 page research paper. He does give extra credit opportunities which are papers as well. You can study for hours and still not receive an A on his tests..
the class is pretty difficult buuuut if you put in the work and use the tutor you will get a good grade, like its not impossible to succeed. He is pretty funny and has like a "dad humor" feeling to it. DO NOT skip the lectures, they are boring sometimes and honestly I fell asleep sometime but they are good to go too, he gives class points!!
Great professor.
This professor is tough but easy enough. Lectures are based on the in class mid term. 2 online quizzes and a final are all based on the textbook and answers can be found. Keep up reading and you will do fine. People say he is tough but just keep up with the work. He really likes you going to office hours and showing you care. Lectures are good!
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!!!!! HE IS REALLY TOUGH GRADER AND YOU CAN'T ASK HIM ANYTHING BECAUSE HE WILL NOT HELP YOU WITH ASSIGNMENTS AND MAKES YOU LOOK SO DUMB IF YOU ASK HIM A QUESTION. I heard that if you take it in the summer its way better because you dont have to do a 10 PAGE ESSAY. The only reason I am giving him a star is because he is funny.
Dr. Eskandari is one of those people that can change your life if you let him. I was hesitant to take his class due to his score on Ratemyprof. and harsh reputation, but that is only true if you are a moron. He expects a lot of his students, but also knows way more than anyone. Take his class, pay attention to lectures, and you will have an easy A!
Dr. Eskandari is one of those professors that will make you work for the grade, only take his courses should you be a Poli Sci major. This man cares deeply about the world and those students looking to pursue a career within Poli Sci, he cares very little for those not ready to put the effort in and will weed you out. An amazing professor
By far the best professor of my life. I wish I had taken more classes with him. I think sometimes on coming back to Santa Barbara mainly to get classes with him.
Took both 131, and 132 with Professor Eskandari recently. I wasn't the top notch student at first, but after speaking with him it became clear he cares about his students and wants nothing more for them than to learn and succeed. Don't take his classes if you aren't interested, but if you are, it's a great experience.
I loved this professor! He is an expert in his field and made me actually interested in politics (which is crazy). In this class, TAKE NOTES!! For the quizzes, the book is sooo unhelpful. I did horribly on my first quiz because I went off the study guides in the book, use quizlet instead. He goes on tangents sometimes but overall, he's good.
Here's the truth. This man is absolutely brilliant and is the best SBCC has to offer. His classes are tough, but if you're willing to put the work in, not only will you do well in the class, but you'll have an enlightened and expanded world view. His lectures are funny, engaging, informative, and all around interesting. He's tough, but good tough.
Professor Eskandari-Qajar has a really good semester outline. His assignments are simple and very few so it can be easy to time manage but hard to try to better your grades. His exams I would say are tricky because they can be 50 questions in 50 minutes to 100 questions in 100 minutes and time runs out rather fast. Overall this class is doable.
Professor Eskandari is incredible. Great lectures and entertaining. Shows immense care and understanding for students. Course syllabus and grading criteria are clear. Not easy work but worth it. Make sure to study from the textbook.
Grading policy is strict and unclear. You get one minute per question on the "quizes" that are basically exams because of their length. The mandatory pre-quizes have nothing to do with what is on the actual ones. The prompts for the papers are unclear and you are likely to loose points for not doing something that you didn't even know you had to.
He gave me a zero on a complete, well written, and thorough paper for turning it in in the wrong format. (google docs, not microsoft word) paper was worth 1/5th of my grade and the zero set me up for failure for the whole semester and even though I got A's on everything else, I only got a C in the class. was rude and unprofessional when i emailed
so you may be wondering what a chem major is doing taking this class but i needed a humanities for my igetc requirement. anyways, as much as i wanted to keep this class, walking in all there was was political jargon and if you weren't a polisci major, you were pretty much going to have a hard time. also this class felt like it lacked diversity.
Worst professor I have ever had. He is very unprofessional and rude. I would not recommend this professor. His lectures and assignments are very unclear, even if you do as the prompt says he will still find a way to fail you.
Course relied heavily on use of textbook and the lectures were not my favorite but still had lots of valuable information and are worth paying attention to. The Quizzes and tests are straightforward and the paper assignments are equally easy. The class is an easy A as long as you do not put off assignments until the last minute.
Professor Eskandari is the worst professor Ive had at SBCC. I got a B because I submitted a paper in the wrong format. He gave me a zero for the assignment. When I emailed him, he was rude and never answered my question. Its an easy class to pass online because he is simply not present. This guy is a joke!
I took his online summer class. The class was a lot of reading from the textbook & his written lectures. Theres a lot of quizzes: pre-tests every week & 50 point quizzes every week as well which are timed. I found the class boring & even though I got an A I feel like I didnt learn much. Hes a tough grader on papers so exceed the min!
I mean you don't really have any other options for this class so he'll do. Lectures were a bit dry so you could probably could make do with skipping some of them. Strict grader because I think my final deserved a little more than a 77.
The worst experience I have ever had with a professor. He was uncompromising, aloof, and showed little or no regard for his students success. He is probably a great lecturer, but unfortunately I was never directly taught by him and was instead directed entirely by textbook reading.
It is true that he is not very engaged w/ students as a professor. Most of the quiz questions fall outside of textbook readings & written lectures. Be prepared to do your best for the sake of passing, even if you find it hard to get the most of the class.
Web and paper assignments are easy, but MAKE SURE YOU GET FULL CREDIT on those because you'll need it to make up for the insanely difficult tests. I studied for hours and took the pre-quiz tests, wrote down the answers, studied that material, wrote down definitions, and the 50 question 50 minute quiz is almost impossible to ace
It's been a year since I took this class and I still think about it all the time. Dr. Eskandari made a massive impact on my life just through one class. The readings were interesting and made all the more meaningful by his lectures. Not to mention that he's hilarious. He will demand your participation but it's worth it. I would take it again.
Pretty unclear on expectations you have to search through the modules to find what you need to do. Doesn't forgive late work. If you figure out what you need to do and follow requirements youll be fine. Two big essays, group project, biweekly discussions. Better in person. Online he struggles.
I took his Pols 101 class and LOVED this prof, clearly cares about the subject and makes you want to as well. He can be a harsh grader and is very nit-picky about formatting. Not a lot of work, just big projects. If you reach out for help though and show you care, he will notice. If you are interested in politics I would definitely recommend.
Essentially, I taught myself everything throughout this course. His grading criteria are vague but will grade you harshly if you don't meet his ambiguous standards. He gives zero feedback. There is not a ton of homework, but the midterm is a 4-page paper and the final is a 10-page paper so prepare for that. I do NOT recommend this teacher at all.
Reached out to this professor multiple times with questions about assignments and how they should be shaped. The best response I got from him was read more. Set up meetings with counselors and tutors and still failed this class, while having received good grades from nearly every other teacher in this department.
I dropped this class in hopes to take it with another professor who is a better fit. I didn't care for the structure of the class and while I could tell that he cared about the subject matter (not the students) and was an invested professor, his overall attitude wasn't for me. Too preoccupied with complaining about online teaching.
I would not recommend the professor. The amount of work expected from us was huge(dozens of pages submitted), which would be one thing if the work he showed us in return matched. Instead he gave little to no feedback and his lectures were a few typed word pages every other week. I worked way harder and longer in this class than my 5 unit courses.
I would not take this professor again Im not sure if he believes the city college is Harvard or what but he is setting an expectation for all students that is not near reality. He is extremely picky with grading and if you do one thing wrong on the discussions he will give you a 0 and will discourage you by a ton. Take any other professor.
Discussions every week due on Sunday but if we do it on Saturday you receive half credit immediately because "your waiting till the last minute" Makes no sense, a due date is a due date. Don't even bother to reach out to him because hes doing to tell you that he cant help, to reach out to student tech, etc.
Worst professor Ive had and Ive taken over 80 credits. He sends out aggressive emails threatening to fail students. He routinely gives failing grades on quality posts for not meeting format requirements etc. Very condescending. Doesnt abide by his own due dates. Penalizes last min submissions even if on time. Easy test bank curriculum. Bad prof
Prof doesn't have a creative or out of the box bone in his body. Tests are copy/pasted from teachers manual & you will get little to no feedback from prof. It's an easy A class but not worth it if you think Polysci is something you're interested in. Prof puts in minimal effort, uninspiring is the word I'd use to characterize both course & prof.
I hate this prof. He was the worst teacher ever because he didn't even teach; he just sent out an index card worth of lecture notes to us every week and we taught ourselves essentially. There was so much reading and it was just an awful class overall. Just try to avoid him altogether.
I have heard that he is a good professor in person. However, online he absolutely sucks. He has ruined any passion I had for politics. The same assignments each week, and it feels like busy work. His online class is a waste of my time. And his lectures suck too, they're just typed out which is weird. He seems to put zero effort into the class.
Took POLS101 as a political science major. The first week was pretty tough but then it was fairly easy the rest of the semester. Basically the same two assignments every week with an occasional quiz or paper. Lectures can be kind of boring since they are long, typed out chunks of text but that's expected with an online course. Overall a good course
Didn't really learn anything. Had to write discussion posts and papers every other week. Definitely assigns a lot to read but you could honestly write anything because I doubt he reads it anyways. Basically just read the readings of philosophers and had to write 2 page papers every other week along discussions. 4 page midterm and 12 page final
He made me resent political science. I'd get 70/100 marked down only due to "improper" submission. No 2nd chances or accept any work after submission etc. It's a really hard, time consuming course and I really tried my best, submitted my best work, but his unnecessary, copious markdowns failed me. Understanding's completely alien to him.
If you actually want to learn, DO NOT take a class with this professor. As a PoliSci Major, I had no choice but to take his classes and he never fails to disappoint each time. He's not helpful at all and will literally drop your grade for the most unreasonable things. It has been the worst few semesters in my life and it's all because of him.
A legend in his own mind. Demands to be called Dr. as opposed to Professor. Really attached to his "royal" lineage. Teaching methods very outdated, just monologues, the star of the show.
An intense course that requires dedication. While the grading can be harsh, the material is engaging. Unstuckstudy AI proved helpful for studying alongside the textbook. Overall, a challenging but rewarding class if you're willing to put in the work.
