Dr.J was one of the best teachers I've had at NVCC. She teaches her material without a book, and her exams are on the class notes. She also offers extra credit that can boost your grade a whole letter grade! She's awesome - I highly recommend!
VERY VERY Easy teacher, she is not tricky she teaches great. Her test is based on her lecture just record the lecture and take very good notes. an A is guranteed
Horrible accent, very difficult to understand. Teaches out of powerpoint slides. I did not learn one thing. WARNING!!! Do not take. You will regret it.
She is one of the best teachers I've ever had. Teaches without a book, explains clearly, and no need to take final or extra credit project, above all very very nice person. Just record everything she lectures.
I love her. She is a very understanding and fair teacher.
Super teacher. Very organized. Makes the material very interesting. If you come to class, takes notes and pay attention to the study guide it is an easy A.
the tests are straight from the notes
Best economics teacher at NOVA!
She is very clear and easy to understand.
Great sociology teacher ... be careful because she has a photographic memory and can remember who wasn't in class the previous week!! Overall a wonderful person and teacher who is passionate about what she teaches. Take her, definitely!
She is a kind lady who does not require a text book. She is consistent in style and if you copy all the notes you will pass. She also gives extra credit.
Dr J, is a chill teacher. You dont need a text book, but you need to take alot on notes but her classes usallay end early and she drops the lowest test grade.
She is a really good teacher. I personally would appreciate a little higher standards, but hey, it's a community college
The Best Teacher I have ever had.....extremely good skills and really gets you into the class
SHES GOOD.. her tests are 20 mulitple choice Q's .. but require some thinking .. i NEver made a 100 on her test no matter how hard i tried.. but overall.. she gives u a chance to make ur A in the class ... she knows what shes teaching !
great
Very Interesting and Fun Professor....teaches the economics very well..After taking the test, you have a very good knowledge of the subject you learned and you can easily associate her any given subject with real world..Using her office hours is very helpful too..tests are easy and critical thinking
Dr. J is very interested in teaching, valuable lessons and bring "real world" examples. however, her test is so tricky, need to read more in the book and pay more attention to the lectures to get an A. Very nice teacher! recommended!!!
She is the Bomb
The very best teacher. She is smart and her tests are so easy. Highly recommended.
wow, an interesting class with an interesting professor. GO TO CLASS and PAY ATTENTION. if you dont those two, you will not do good.
Love you Dr.J AA
i can't stand her accent. her tests are short, but involves a lot of thinking, you can't just memorize her notes and expect to do good, you have to completely understand.
Very easy class, all u need to do is study the notes and pay attention to the lectures. If ur good at memorizing then ur guranteed an "A"
shes very easy and very very clear about what shes talking about. all you have to do is study the notes and you'll get an A. dont even buy the textbook. shes also very helpful and will answer any questions. the lectures are kinda boring but all you need to do is go to class and take notes.
my tests results =96,96,80,unknown. then extra credits= 1.5%, 2.0%, 1.5%, unknown%. I need to get 68 or higher without extra credit to get A. but the last test was hard so bad. 25 questions per test. she usually drops 1 test, but changed into extra crdeit with 4 tests since it was summer with 1 holiday. but not as easy as most ppl here say.
Best Professor yet! Just copy her notes and pay attention in class. Not much extra studying involved and no text book necessary. She explains things clearly. Easy A if you pay attention in class.
she makes things confusing by talking about sri lanka and other stuff. If it wasn't for her real life examples her class would be really easy.
Best teacher on campus
WONDERFUL. Finally - a good Econ teacher at Nova. I really learned a lot from her (unlike Brogan for my Macro class). Just go to class and take notes and you'll ace the tests. She's also very helpful if you have extra questions after class and extremely friendly. She has a bit of an accent, but you get used to it as the semester progresses.
Great teacher and person... Must study however... She will make you work for you grade...
SO EASY. All you have to do is go to class and copy her notes on the Overhead. She offers extra credit on each test which will boost your overall grade at the end. No textbook required. She is money.
I love this woman. She is an amazing teacher! Go to class and take notes for an hour and you will ace the tests. She gives 6 tests, no final, and a big extra credit project at the end of the semester to give you a little boost. Her examples are great and she is extremely helpful and willing to explain if you don't understand. Great great teacher!
Good teacher, very informative and knows what she's talking about. Gives good examples in her notes. The only bad thing would be that, she doesn't SEEM to go out of her way to help you even if you go out of your way.She expects that if you did bad on the past tests, she thinks you are not that good of a student for her class.TAKE NOTES N STUDY HARD
very confusing, boring, hard to understand her talking...her talking is too paskistany don't like her. you must memorize her notes in order to pass....if you pretend to slack in her class don't take her.
She is so hard to understand. you have to memorize not only the notes but what she says as well..her test SUCK!!cuz they are like so complex and hard to understand. there are only 20 questions on all 7 tests and if you get one question ur already down to a B.. Dont ever take her even if 20 people tell u to.. SHE SUCKS!!and is rude!so dont take her!
Her class is amazing! First, you DO NOT NEED TO PURCHASE THE BOOK! Second, she makes the class go by really fast, she uses real life examples to make her point. Her accent is not bad, the A or B out of the class is well worth the effort.
She is an excellent teacher! She makes the subject very clear. All you need is to take the notes and remember her examples(they will be on the test) Fair multiple choices tests, and you gotta drop the lowest grade at the end. Plus extra point project. If you go to class at least a B is garanted.
THIS TEACHER IS REALLY GOOD.. SHE MAKES THE WORK REALLY EASY...JUST TAKE ALL THE NOTES AND WRITE DOWN WHAT SHE'S SAYIN WHILE TAKIN THE NOTES AND U'LL BE FINE...SHE'S THE BEST...
She's really bad!!! and her tests are only 20 question so if you mess up one question than your screwed! and you don't understand what she's saying because she has a bad accent
she is very nice professor. 6 tests throughout the semester and you can drop your lowest test. Also, there is an extra credit assignment towards the end of the semester. 20 multiple choice questions on each test and if you copy the notes and pay attention every class, you will do fine. you dont need a textbook in this class
very easy A, must take her class!
I do not know anything about this teacher. I read a little compliments about this teacher i hope its true.
How can anyone does poorly in this class? She spoon feeds you everything on an overhead projector, and answers all questions asked. I didn't open the text book once-and still got an A. If you come to class, take notes, and read over once you're home, you'll do well in class. Dr. J is from Sri Lanka (not Pakistan), but her accent IS understandable.
TO the person who gets 1 of 20 questions wrong and thinks that they are getting a B: 1 wrong gets you a 95, 2 wrong gets you a 90- do the math. And by the way, she does have an accent- but it's not that pronounced.
Just take notes off her overheads and you will be fine, tests are DIRECTLY from notes. No reason not to get an A.
Tests are trick questions, read em carefully.
Dr. Jay is a gifted teacher with a strong interest in her students. Her accent takes a little getting used to, but she explains economics in everyday terms. TAKE GOOD NOTES in her class - all the test questions come from her lectures. One of Nova's best teachers.
Her tests are very HARD! Warns that each test after will be harder and she is not kidding! I know people who started with an A now have a D in her class. These are smart people! You do have to memorize a lot of the notes and teacher expects you to dedicate a lot of your time with the work. There is a test each week.Recommended if you have alot of t
Great teacher, to do well you must *SHOW UP* and you will do well, took 201-202 with her, and aced both, and she takes interest in her studants.
Highly recommend. 6 tests, no final, one dropped grade, plus extra credit. Tests are mostly based on overhead projector lectures. Study notes before test and A or B is guaranteed.
Wonderful! Its no wonder she had a waiting list. Best of the best!
the best teacher ever!!!!!!!
she does have overhead notes and she try's to keep it simple and easy. But her exams are a trip. I believe she is an average professor and i believe she is overrated by other people. i'm sorry i can't give this lady a happy yellow face.
She is one of the best economics professor. She wil explain her notes wiht clear real life example. her tests are from her notes not from book; although you get reading assignment. if someone thinks that she was not easy; they did not pay attention in her class.
overall shes a good professor. tests are tricky, its not that there hard, she just has weird ways of asking the questions. classes are lecture/overhead based. have to go to class. in general, its a straight class.
She is old school. I don't like the way she teach. She pretends like a good teacher. Ladies and gentleman don't waste your time, find another teacher.
HARD.6 tests.different then her study guides.study guide different then her notes.not clear tests really confusing &treaky each test gets harder if u don't get an A makes u feel like u r stupid no source to study except 4 her freakin unuse notes.there are better teachers. CHOOSE WISLEY. changes her test every semester. TESTS DIFFERNT 4 EACH STUDEN
6 tests you get to drop one test but they are really tricky. She makes Diff test for each student. Her accent is hard to understand sometimes. going to class is a must since most of what she lectures doesnt come from the book. I recommend taking some one else.
To the pedestrians that failed, its because you were busy talking during lecture. Dr. Jay is the best, if not easiest Econ Prof. Who gives their students a 10% extra credit to help you pull up your grade? Test were easy b/c if you took good notes, you passed with an A or B. There's no remorse for those who failed, b/c Econ 202 was easy. Not4dalazy.
Easy class, easy A. The material is given, and you have to absorb it. To those that fail the class, its because you were unattentive, and loved to waste the tuition money. I worked nearly 60hrs a week, and still passed the class with an A. Dr. Jay's fair, easy, and the best Econ teacher this side of Annandale. You Rock Dr. Jay, Keep it Real. :-)
I have to say that this was one of my best classes so far. I recommend Dr. Jay to anyone taking Economics, her classes are very understandable and I like the way she grades her test. You really have to not know what you are doing to fail this class. Good Work Dr. Jay!!!
Best Econ class I've ever taken. I got an A on the first 5 tests, and she drops the lowest grade, so I didn't need to do the final. No homework, easy tests (only 20 questions ea.) Just show up and take notes. We didn't use our book at all.
ahhhhhhhhhhhh. she is not easy.
I TOOK HER FOR ECON 201 & 202! SHE'S AWESOME! TO GET AN A ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS ATTEND CLASS, TAKE NOTES, AND TAKE THE TEST. YOU HAVE 6 TESTS, LOWEST GRADE SHE DROPS, BUT IF YOUR AVERAGE IS AN A WITH THE FIRST 5 TEST, YOU DONT HAVE TO TAKE THE 6TH TEST WHICH IS THE FINAL. MULTIPLE 20 QUESTIONS, DIRECTLY FROM LECTURE NOTES! AWESOME PROF!
Highly recommend her. People who say otherwise didn't take her notes and study them at all. Don't need to put that much effort to pass or get an A even. Tests are easy, her notes are sparse and easy to understand. Even in an 80 person class she'll know everyone's name and face so don't skip much. Don't waste your $ on the book.
She's nice but to sum it up.. very tricky tests, pages and pages of lecture notes, goes through notes required to pass tests fast.. so you better be a very fast writer or you will miss some information to study for the tricky multiple choice tests. Don't need book just take notes from overhead and dont miss a sentence!
I took her 201, then 202 which was 8 weeks class, tests were take home tests. It was really easy, met once a week. I learned a lot from her, she doesn't teach eco only, she teach you how to think and judge. She is the best teacher I've ever had. She loves teaching and she does a wonderful job.
Dr. J is a WONDERFUL teacher! I took two of her classes and deserved both A's. Not only Econ knowledge, she also taught us about life and what education offers us for our future. She replys your email promptly, always assist you when you need her in her office. Lately she helped me with my recomendation letter to Georgetown. She is one of a kind!
One of the best teachers NVCC has to offer. She ask moderatly from the students, not to much, not to little. She does a great job in explaining the material. If your just one of those kids that are just taking the class to pass it u can pass with a B. But if you apply yourself you can surely get an A. If you have problems with her class...your a moron.

Dr. Jay is an amazing professor. Her 201 class was concise and interesting. If you go to class and take notes you will always pass her tests with a good grade. There are no trick questions or surprises. It also helps that she gives an extra credit assignment at the end of the semester that can really boost your grade.
She is not that easy going
Dr. J makes studies of economics very fun and interesting. I truly enjoyed her real-life examples to ease the understandings of economics. She speaks slowly and very easy to understand. Just study your notes and you'll be fine with her tests. Usually 20 questions but sometimes 22, which is out of 110 points. I highly recommend her!!!
I took Macro with her along with Micro in the same semester. By far, this was the best move I've made here at NOVA. Trust me, you will not be confused or mixed up with different materials from two classes. Her teaching style is very easy going. She expects you to understand the material more than to memorize her overhead notes. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!
I agree with the other person here, she isn't as good as some geeks here think she is.
You don't need a text book which is nice. She gives you a study guid and if you study that you are good to go for tests. She's great!
Great teacher.... knows her stuff well, extremely easy to understand... Is very fair with her grades... you get what you earn on her tests. as long as you pay attention and listen in class, u r likely to get an A
This teacher is awsome..i just wished i took macro 201 with her as well..the biggest regret i have..very easy to understand..not much work..easy A..tests are very easy as well..do not need text book and her notes are very usefull..I just love the way she teaches..great examples makes it easy for us to relate.
Dr. J is AWESOME!!! I rated her alreay but I just want to say again how wonderful she is! Clear explanation, easy to understand, just simply TAKE HER!!!!
She's a good teacher, and gives easy tests. Just study directly from the class notes. Textbook is not needed. Easy A!
I took her in Fall 2007, i took both eco's 201 &202 with her at once... she has wonderful teaching method.. the notes are so clear that You can easily get an A even without a book... i strongly recommend her....
DR. Jay is a wonderful person... i took ECO 201 and 202 with her this Fall 2007, her teaching method is so clear that you would not need a book at all... i strong recommend her.. plz take her if u need Eco.
There's a lot of notes and you better keep up, she will not wait..and dont miss a sentence on the overhead, b/c those are what the tests are. The tests are multiple choice, but not easy at all, you have to study really hard all the notes, and everyone has a different test, and she monitors by walking down the aisles, to make sure no one is cheating
SHE WILL NOT WAIT FOR U IF U MISS CLASS BUT OVERALL NICE AND HELPFUL TEACHER VERY EASY TESTS IT'S EASY IF U FOLLOW HER
Dr. J is hands down the best professor at NOVA. All I have to say is take her! The way she lectures makes it easy for the students to understand. If you show up for class and study it is easy to get an A. She encourages students to achieve and always willing to help. She is a true educator, it is obvious that she loves teaching. trust me, TAKE HER
She is the best teacher at NOVA. I love the way she teach the class. 6 Tests drop the lowest. 5 Test count. Also, give extra credit assignment at the end, which counts 10 points. Just go to class, take notes and just listen to her. She gives real examples and easy to understand. I got A in the class and I wish all the teachers are like her. Thanks
Professor Jay she is so funny. I really liked her how she related real life examples to economics. Make sure you go to class every day take the notes she puts up...and you will do well in her class.
Dr JAY is the a really good teacher, if only most other teachers were like her. She explains very good. She actually teaches what will be on the test. Unlike others who try to trick you for for there own pleasure. Only thing with her is you have to watch how the questions are worded, thats the only hard thing.
Best Professor at NOVA hands down.
REALLY hard. Good: Drops the lowest test grade. Bad: The way she words her sentences on the exams are really confusing. Not only do you need to study the notes, but you need to read every detail about the subject listed on the study guide or you will do horribly in this class. Not Recommended. Take another professor.
Took the 6wk class. She is right to the point and tell what you need to know in a way that anyone can understand. She is well qualified and knows how to teach. Instead of 3.5 hrs of class it was about 1.5 hrs. She hands out a study guide and you do have to be at every class because of the notes. Didn't touch my txtbk once. GREAT TEACHER!
SIMPLY THE BEST TEACHER ON EARTH. Material is presented sooooooooo clearly. Tests are fair. Class is not easy and neither is the material, but Dr. J makes it so simple...
The best teacher on the world!!!!!!! I love that class even if you are not interested i economics she will make it interesting for you! Student friendly person!
Dr. Jay is a wonderful teacher. I recommand her if you need Econ. 6 test, each 24 multiple choice questions. No hw. You dont need a text book. But you have to be present in the class to take notes in order to get a good grade in her class. SHe gives extra credit questions and drops one test at the end. She is AWSOME! TAKE HER
BEST TEACHER! her tests are straight from her teaching so no books! and she lets u drop a test grade..honestly if u go to class and pay attention u will get an A on all her tests!!!
Ok so i took this class as well and i don't know why people believe that she is SUPER EASY, because shes not. however if you dont mind taking A LOT of notes, (in order to take them, you have to come to class obviously) you should take her!
awesome teacher straight forward no **** and what she tells u in lecture is what u need 2 know 4 the tests
She is the best teacher ever. if you attend every class and write down notes. you can get an easy A!
Ok she is not supppper easy, i dont know what everyone is talking about however if you show her that you are willing to work hard, she will work with you as well. She is very educated and teaches in a way that you can understand. Her test are multiple choice, however the answers sometimes seem like one another so its a bit hard 2 choose. Take her i
NOT supper easy, but show her that you are willing to work hard, she will work with you as well. She is very educated and teaches in a way that you can understand. Her test are multiple choice, however the answers sometimes seem like one another so its a bit hard 2 choose. Take her if your willing to work hard, and ATTEND CLASS!
Not as easy as everyone thinks. The notes are straight forward but the questions on the test are VERY CONFUSING. You have to work hard for your grade.
i highly recommend her because if you just come to class and take notes well, you will get an easy a! however, you gotta listen to her very carefully cuz she sometimes gave a test with you never heard of.(she has a strong accent.)
She is a UVA level teacher in Nova, one of the best. Tests are multiple choices with each has an extra credit, all test are from her notes and you need to really understand what you read because test are not really easy but I just loved her class and I got an A. Highly recommended.
Dr J is one of the best teachers in NOVA.
She is definitely the best ECO Professor at NOVA! I took her ECO202 in the fall 2008. She is very inspiring and helpful person. She is very understanding and loveable person. Take her class! It is an easy A if you take notes in class and read your notes before the exam. I even recommend you to take her class as an Honor's course. You will end up ed
awesome professor, she even gives recommendations for college
awesome excellent professor, she even gives recommendations for college, study and you will do well
If you think this class is hard, then business/economics is not for you.She teaches at the most elementary level so that ANYONE can understand.I took Quach for 211,got an A,and was still confused about what economics was.And then I took Dr.J for 212 and everything was so easy to understand.TAKE NOTES,STUDY!!,pay attention to her hints in lecture.
He is the best Econ teacher at Nova, she has 6 exams all of them 22 mc questions which out of 22, 2 are extra credits...She gives a extra credit assignment at the end of the semester which is worth 10 points, You have to attend the class for ur own good cause the test are from the class notes, gives out study guides b4 each test, BESTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT
Very nice professor. Tests are NOT only from her notes but from what she says as well so a tape recorder may be helpful. No need for textbook. However if you missed something from a slide she will not let you see it again even during office hours, you must get it from someone else.
Had for 6-week summer course. no ambiguity where test Qs come from: slides. take good notes and you it would be hard not to get a good grade. no text book required. grades came from only tests. if happy with your overall grade before the final, you don't have to take it. let us out of class early. 1st and 2nd tests i already knew b/c took micro 1st
Awesome teacher... very easy
Overall she is strict in her teaching, but if your willing to learn you will do well, not everything is easy with her, you have to put in your effort.
had her for both 201&202 AND IT'S A TOTAL FAIL-PROOF CLASS. No need to buy the text book becuase as long as you come in to class, and take notes which she literally spoon feeds you with, AND you get extra credits, all while learning at the same time! It's very rare to come by such a perfect professor so take her if you can !!!! Also, she's very fun
Ms. J Rocks!
GREAT teacher. Very fair. 6 Tests. She drops the lowest score if you take all of them. Extra credit points available on every exam. Questions are taken straight from her lectures. If you show up and take good notes, an A is definitely obtainable.
Have to take notes b/c question comes from it.6 test 22 question each. 2 of the question is extra credit and she drops the lowest graded test! also gives extra credit which really bumps ur grade up. Read the note and use the internet to familirize the theory. If you study and do the extra credit you can get A.
Just read all the other comments. Nothing has changed. Not only an easy A (with a little effort), but you will walk away from this class feeling like you learned something. Economics sucks!!! But she makes it bearable, even interesting. If you miss lots of class, not a good choice. You need her notes to do well. No txt book.
She is a great teacher and it's an easy A with a little effort. Come to class, listen, take good notes and do the study guide and you will be fine. She makes Economics interesting and fun! You don't need the textbook!
Dr. J's knowledge of economics is profound but I found her method of teaching to be way too fast. In her class, you move very rapidly through several units so if you're the type who likes to soak in all the material in class, then this is not the class for you. Even if you take good notes, it's a roll of the dice when it comes to the test.
Are you kidding me? I took 201, 202 with her and they were the easiest classes I took at NOVA. The classes were joke seriously. Just read the notes before the test for 1 hour and you get an A.
easy if you study and show up to class
6 Test, no homework, and one extra credit project. If you do well on first 5 test no need to take the 6th one. No final. Her test are hard sometimes, but her class isn't boring. You have to study notes everyday in order to an A. Overall, she's alright. I'm NOT taking her again!
6 Tests straight out of the class notes. You will watch 2 videos, test questions on this too. Textbook not necessary. Study a couple hours prior to the test to get an easy A.
Very easy class, very nice teacher. Come to class -> take notes -> study the study guide, and you'll ace the exams! Exams are multiple choices. If you get above 90 on the 1st 5 exams, then you don't have to take the 6th one. Take her class, so easy.
Dont buy the book. She gives powerpoint lectures, make sure you attend every class & pay attention. Taking notes is easier if you have your laptop. More than half the class brought their laptops every class. Record the lectures & listen to it at home, good way to review. She gives study guide before every exam. 6 tests, drops the lowest test.
Fairly easy class; take notes and you will do fine. She gives a 10 point extra credit at the end of the semester. If you already have your A by the 6th exam then you dont need to take the last exam or do the extra credit. Lets you out of class earlier then scheduled.
Dr. J is awesome, I took her for 201 and 202. Got a good grade in both. There are 6 tests, she drops the lowest one. 10 point Extra credit assignment at the end of the semester which will really boost your grade. Lets you out early every class, never goes the whole scheduled time. Shes great, take her :)
She is a good teacher, but her thick Sri Lankan accent really kills it for me, because English is my second language, and her accent made it really hard for me to absorb her lectures.
extremely easy teacher. does not require book just take notes and you'll do fine. all tests are multiple choice. she always has few extra credit question. she gives every opportunity to get an A. Take her class for easy A.
She's HARD! so you have to study hardd. Otherwise nice teacher.
she legit just reads off every word from the power points she puts on blackboard, she is easy if you are great at memorization but horrible if your bad at remembering things. SHE DOES NOT TEACH SO GETTING THE A IS ALL ON YOU REMEMBERING THE POWERPOINTS ! also 6 exams thats it no hw or extra credit. she drops the lowest score
She is the best professor I had at NOVA.I took her 201 class and 202.She knows every single student individually. She cares about her students so much and explains the materials so well. She is the best
Extra credit in all in class tests. Power point on BB and explaination for each slide given in class. All test questions from class notes. If you want to learn economics and make a good grade take her. She is exceptional!!
Dr. J is one of NOVA?s BEST Professors. She is FANTASTIC and should be teaching at an ivy-league school. Gives real-life examples to make ?complicated? concepts simple. Tests multiple choice w extra credit, lowest dropped. Come to class, take good notes (write down what she SAYS too), study, and you'll have an "A." Dr. J is simply the best!!!
DR. J was my economics professor for both of my Economics classes(201&202). She relates real world history and situations with the material and makes the information so much easier to comprehend than the textbook. There's no required homework and she offers extra credit. All you have to do is go to class and pay attention and you'll Ace the class.
Good teacher. Explains and makes the material easy to understand. 6 tests one drop test. All questions are from class notes and the study guide. Just by going to class you can get a C. With little effort you can learn the material and make a good grade. TAKE HER!!!
Dr. J, is by far the best professor I have encountered upon. I took eco 201&202 with her and received an A in both courses. She makes all the complicated concepts simple using real life examples, also drops the lowest grade from 6 tests, no hw and even offers extra credit. Don't recommend to buy the book since all the tests are based from lectures.
she is an easy A If you study. the test are right off her notes. she makes class Interesting.
Took her for Macroeconomics. She is so far one of the best teachers at nova! Everything she teaches is from her powerpoints and in class we go over them and she gives lots of great examples in real life, draws graphs that is understandable, and answers questions well. The way she talks is also very interesting. If u take good notes, easy A.
Wonderful teacher! I already signed up for her summer class. As long as you show up ans study for the test, you will pass. DONT miss a test day or your make-up test are all essay (very hard) otherwise all test are MC
Dr. Jayatilake is one of the best professors at NVCC. She is extremely helpful and clear. Her tests are easy if you study the notes. I took her for both ECO 201 and 202, and received an A in both. I highly suggest you take the Honors option for 202. It isn't any more difficult than the regular option, and only slightly more work. I recommend her!
She teaches economics at a clear and organized manner with her powerpoints. It's not mandatory to use the textbook but you should make sure you don't miss class. Study hard for her tests and make sure that you understand it completely. She gives an extra credit assignment at the end and it's pretty easy.
One of the best professors! She explains economics in away that it will get stuck in your head forever. I highly recommend her for any major. Also, she offer you a lot of help. Believe me you won't regret it!
I already took this prof for two semester which econ201/202. I obviously loved her class, she explain economic very well and easy where you won't ever forget material she explains.. She is also funny and if you do the practice exam review, all of the question from the study guide will be there, but be careful her test is bit confusing! Easy A class
Dr. J is an amazing Econ prof. She is very knowledgeable on the material & explains it so it makes sense. I took her for Econ 201 & 202. She gives out 5 exams & drops the lowest grade. She offers an extra credit paper at the end of the semester. I highly recommend her class. (For those who’ve taken her class… “Do you get what I’m saying…?”)
Dr. J is without a doubt the best teacher you can get when you're taking Economics. She's incredibly straight forward. She uses real-world examples as she follows along with Powerpoint slides. Just take a few notes here and there on the slides themselves and you'll have all the answers for the study guides she gives before tests. Great teacher!
Dr J knows her stuff! She uses powerpoints & her own real world examples so you can fully understand economics. I took notes & printed the powerpoints she gives extra credit & 6 test, lowest test gets dropped, NO TEXTBOOK. I'm an electrical engineering major & because of Dr. J I really like economics now. She made it interesting & understanding.
Wonderful teacher. Not only do you learn economics you also learn to love the subject. If you don't go to class/or is distracted in class you will not do well. She makes the material simple and easy to understand. Take her. She is one of the best teachers at NOVA.
6 multiple choice tests, drop the lowest, and she gives 10% extra credits every test. Tests are very TRICKY! have to go to class to take notes, you WONT able to do the test just by studying the slides on Blackboard. Don't need the book at all.
Very intelligent and really knows her stuff. MUST COME TO CLASS, can't stress this enough. You dont need the textbook at all, but if you dont come or pay attention you will not do well. I got an A but I really had to work my butt off!
Wonderful teacher. Her lecturers are well prepared and clear. Her expectations are well defined and clear. She makes the material simple with day to day examples. Very fair teacher who cares about student learning and success. Take her. She will help you transfer and give lots of good advise.
Very interesting teacher. Good balance between serious work and humor. She has a natural ability to explain things in a understandable way. She goes out of her way to clarify difficult material. In short she is one of the best at NOVA. Anyone who fails this class has to take a good look in the mirror!
Good teacher, easy class in general, but her exams can be very tricky! You really have to pay attention to every detail to what she says, not everything is so straight forward unfortunately. Lets you drop your lowest test grade, and if you already have an A from the first 5 exams you don't have to take the 6th or the final, which is good.
Worked my tail off just to be confused by her exam questions. It's a shame NOVA does not have better economics teachers.
Excellent teacher. Explains very clearly. All questions are from class notes. The study guide helped me a lot.6 in class exams and she will drop the lowest grade. She also gives an extra credit assignment that helps to boost up your grade. Cannot get better than this. Take her, you will learn econ and learn to enjoy the subject.
Her explanation is clear and professor is really helpful! Take her class!
I am an engineering student. I took Dr.J's Econ class because I had heard good things about this teacher and I was a little interested in Economics. This was one of the best classes I have had at NOVA. Her class is so interesting. The teacher is very knowledgable and has a vocation for teaching. Anyone taking econ TAKE HER CLASS.
A good teacher and nice person. She makes Econ easy and simple. Exams are not hard as long as you pay attention to her class.
Good teacher. Dr. J is very knowledgeable. She has a natural ability to teach. Material is made clear with real life examples. Every exam had extra credit questions. There is an additional extra credit assignment. Very caring fair teacher. Always willing to help. Take her. You will learn and make a good grade too.
6 exams total. drops the lowest and gives extra credit. Talk about easy! To pass the exams you have to go to every class and take notes. If you do the study guides and know it by heart there is no reason not to get an A. No book needed. Exams are words from her lectures. PS pay attention to her movies questions show up on exams!
Hands Down Best teacher at NOVA Annandale. Shes inspiring and will make you actually want to learn and want to get an A in her class. Just sit up front and go to class and itll be a piece of cake! Easy powerpoint notes and easy tests. Take her!!
I am majoring in economics, so I really enjoyed this class. She is knowledgeable on the subject (has her PhD) and is very clear when explaining certain concepts to her students. 5 total exams given. Get to drop your lowest test grade. So only 4 exams count towards your grade for a total of 25% each. Aced all my exams. If you STUDY then so will you.
nice lady but quiz was hard. if not good at doing quiz, don't take her. i got my first C.
Dr. Jayatilake is by far my favorite professor at NVCC. She is straight forward, no nonsense, with a clear understanding of her craft and ensures she relates the materials to her class until they understand. If you get a bad grade it's because you didn't show up and pay attention. No need for the textbook, she uses ppt's Take her now.
She is overall a great teacher. The tests where confusing but she more then makes up with it with a extra credit at the end of the class that brought my grade up a whole letter. She is more then willing to help and is slow in explanations to make sure you understand. She teaches by slides so no book needed! Don't miss a class or you miss alot.
I am confused as to why she has such good ratings, perhaps because of the extra credit. I did all of the study guides and did not help with the test. perhaps I was studying differently but they were kind of confusing. managed to get a b in the class because of the extra credit. overall not too bad. but I had to work hard for that b.
Tiik her class the first 8 weeks. Super teacher. Makes material very understanderable with examples. Questions are directly from class notes/study guide. One of the best teachers at NOVA hands down. Very careing about students.
No book needed. if you want to get an A, come to class, and take notes. i enjoyed this class.
She is great ! Just take notes in the class and I really enjoyed her class .definitely not an Easy A , you have to study for the exams .
Dr. Jayatilake is the best economics professor. I took ECO202 and the class was very easy. Just attend the class, take notes and study for exams. He explains every detail clearly and wants you to prosper. Take her class! Defiantly recommend her!
Great professor. I know many people who struggled in her class, however, I thought her class was super straight foreword. You have to study to past the tests but just take notes and do the study guide and it should be an easy A. She also has extra credit opportunities on each test and at the end of the semester. She also drops the lowest test.
Dr. Jayatilake or simply Dr. J is the best economics professor at NOVA. Her lectures are great and she explains every detail clearly and gives simple examples. You have to study for the exams. Overall there are 6 exams and she drops the lowest grade at the end of the semester. Just attend the class, take notes and study hard to get an A. Take her!
Her lecture is pretty straightforward but her tests are way too tricky, ends class 20-30 mins early. Love her but cant do well on exams.....
BEST TEACHER EVER. i love her, so inspirational and makes you just want to learn. if i could i would take her again. Dr. J is the best, just take notes and youll do fine!
I would say if you do not understand people with deep accents, not to take her. I am not usually a person to get bad grades but for some reason her class become difficult I cant seem to understand anything with her deep accent. She does take time to be with you until you understand the material but you have to be VERY patient with her accent.
Very good professor. Class is not an easy A. You have to pay attention during her lectures. Write down her explanation of the term not what is on the slide, the way she words it is the way it will show up on the test. If you do not test well I'd stay away as those are pretty much the only grades. If you need help, go see her during office hours
I graduated with an Economics degree from a 4 year university. I have to say I had the most unclear worst economics professors at Nova. In Mrs J's class you have to be a good note taker. I'm not ( I can hardly understand my own handwriting!). I don't remember getting help from her when asked.
There is 6 test and one is dropped and if you do well on the first 5 test then you don't have to take the sixth test. There is no final and there is 10 points extra credit essay assignment towards the end of semester. Study guides help but the first test personally for me were vague but as you take her test you will get use to it. Class ends early
I thought she was an amazing teacher! She really tries to break down concepts to help you understand and relate to them. Her tests are not hard at all! Most people do really well. Just go to class, take notes, make sure you understand, and you're good. The materials are straightforward. There's no tricking or anything. And no textbook needed!
6 Exams. Drops one. Extra credit assignment at the end. You will learn what you are supposed to learn and earn a good grade. One of the best at NOVA. It will be hard if you don't go to class like you are supposed to. Very helpful student oriented.
Easiest course I ever took. If you understand the interesting material and some terminology, you can succeed, and 10% extra credit is given per test. Class usually ends 12 hour early. Interesting, easy to understand if you pay attention, easy to get an A - just what I wanted for a social science elective.
Dr.J is a good teacher, I took her class over a six week period. The material came quick but she is clear and concise. Just do the study guides, print out the slides, and do a review the day before the test.
Professor J is good at explaining things, however when she compares the U.S economy to her country's economy, it's almost like she downgrades the U.S. She always mentions how in her country there's free health-care and free education. She changed our first exam date with little notice
Loved her class! Her lectures are very interesting and clear. She is very good in explaining. If you skip classes you might miss information that will be on the test. Classnotes are important in her class. 6 Tests, lowest grade can be dropped. Every test has 2 extra credit questions. Easy A if you pay attention in class and study a little bit.
Dr. J is the best professor at NOVA. She made her econ class so easy and fun. All her tests are short and multiple choice, and she always gives 10 points of extra credit! She's also the sweetest woman, and genuinely wants all her students to succeed. I would recommend her to everyone!
She is amazing. She gives a "test" every 3-4 classes or so and theyre only 22 questions 2 of which areextra credit. Its like a mini quiz super easy if you attend class and study. She gives 6 of these quizzes and she drops your lowest grade. If by the 5th test you have and A you are basically set and do not even have to take the last test.
She is a really nice lady, she wants you to do well in school. She gives 6 tests and all have study guides. Her study guides are NOT helpful because the tests asks different questions. The only easy test is the first one, and the rest get harder everyone in the class gets different versions of the test. If a 'C' is OK take her otherwise don't.
DONT SKIP CLASS!!! we dont have a book for her class, so basically you should take notes on every important thing she says. her lectures are short but you can learn a lot from it. she lets out class like 30 mins early. Take her and get an A if and only if you'll work and study hard
Very clear in class on the topics she plans to discuss, willing to help if you put in the effort, and clear grading criteria. No homework, 6 exams (each out of 110 or 115 points, each question worth 5 points), drops the lowest exam, and an extra credit assignment worth 10% of the grade, but you have to work for it. Would definitely take again.
She is the worst professor at NOVA.. she teaches something in class and tests on something. Very hard tests and she is horrible. DO NOT TAKE HER !!!!!!!!!!!! Do not get carried away with her ratings.
This is the type of teacher that community colleges need more of. She doesn't burden students with busywork and she respects her students. You can get the grade you want if you are even partially capable as a student. You can show up and learn enough to get an A, or engage with the material and learn as much as you can stomach. She is brilliant.
Dr. J is by far one of the best professors at NVCC. Both of her economics classes are wonderful, and the tests are easy if you simply do the study guides(which she provides before every test). She is always worried about the well-being of her students, and is constantly trying to motivate everyone. Great teacher and person. Definitely take her!
Dr.J simplifies the topics for the students to relate and understand the material. Go to class, participate and take good notes. It is important to read the book to reinforce her slides and lectures. It was a a great experience to have her as my professor. She is very professional, compassionate, wise, and charismatic person.
Dr. J is probably the best professor I ever had at NOVA. She is simply a very nice and encouraging professor. She wants all her students to pass. Her tests were easy as long as you did the study guides. Make sure to take good notes when she's talking in class. She also gives a extra credit opportunity at the end. Overall, she is very sweet & easy!
she's has 5 exams and drops the lowest grade. each test are about 25 questions. no homework but you should go to class to take notes. Her exams are not easy. she would give you a study guide and you have to study a bunch of questions just to take 25 questions.. If you don't study hard in her class you will not pass!!
Very good teacher. A you need to do is go to class and take notes. Exams are directly from class notes and the questions are easy. She gives 6 tests. Th lowest test grade will be dropped. Every test has extra credit. and at the end there is an extra credit assignment also. She makes material easy to understand.
Used study guides, but very poor lectures. 6 exams, one extra credit assignment at the end of the semester. She says you don't need the textbook but you DO!! because her lectures aren't enough for the exams!!! Read through the chapters and the major concepts, because she includes questions on the exams that she doesn't cover well in class.
all you have are tests, it is all based of lecture. if you can sit there and listen to someone speak and completely understand what they said take her. if you have to look over powerpoints and such like i do dont take her. all she has are tests they are very difficult even though they are 22 questions. DO NOT LISTEN TO ANYONE ELSES REVIEWS
SHE IS AMAZING!!! One of the best teachers I've every had. I love the way she teaches. Her lectures are clear. You must go to class in order to do well. Print the powerpoint and understand everything clearly. Study the study guides and you get an A. She is very funny, nice and caring. I would definitely recommand her!! Easy A class
Very good teacher. She has the ability to make difficult material simple and easy to understand. Her exams are all from class notes and the study guide We had 6 exams and the lowest grade gets dropped. She gives extra credit in all exams. Dr. J is ready to help is available outside the classroom. If you are a serious student take her!!!
Great Professor! no HW, no textbook. provides really good powerpoint slides. 6 exams when she takes the highest 5. easy A
The best economics professor out there! Difficult material but makes everything easy. She also doesn't make you buy the book which is a plus and no HWS! all you need are good notes and you'll get an A. 6 exams overall, drops the lowest. If you have an A after the 5th exam, you don't have to attend class anymore. TAKE HER!
Dr. J is a good professor if you're willing to put in the time and energy. If you're looking for an Easy A take Ian Taylor for economics online. I found it to be a lot easier. Dr J is a great professor really tried to help students understand.
She is truly an amazing professor. She is clear in what she expects, which isn't that hard to achieve. She is so caring and truly cares if you do well. Always gives good examples, her tests are directly from lectures and powerpoints. Her powerpoints are direct and you just have to add to them. I truly love her, she's really funny!
Amazing professor!!! She is so funny and inspiring! Her lectures are inspirational and you learn a lot of information! Make sure to print out the notes she posts on Blackboard and add to the notes during her lectures! You need to pay attention in class and study for tests. She is very knowledgable about econ!! I loved going to class!!
Dr.J is a passionate professor who brings the subject to life. She explains the course content extremely well in class, with powerpoints to complement. Attend her class -it won't be a waste of time and you will have fun while picking up on details that will be included on the chapter tests! Dr.J will inspire you to do well in all your classes.
Very good teacher. Fair by all students. If you go class, take notes and follow the study guide it is a easy A. Dr. J make the material easy to understand and gives good examples. There are 6 exams and she drops the lowest grade. Every exam has extra credit questions. IT CANNOT GET BETTER THAN THIS. TAKE HER CLASS.
U need to take note every her lecture otherwise u will fail. 6 tests and will drop the lowest one. At the end of semester will have assignment for extra credit.
Dr. Jay is one of those professors you just never forget about. Not only is she extremely knowledgeable in economics, she is able to simplify the material to a point where if you study her powerpoints and your class notes, there is no reason why you shouldn't get an A. Do yourself a favor and take her!!
Amazing! easy B , work for an A but not that hard! listen to her and understand the material and you'll be fine.
Mrs. J cares deeply about her students, often beginning class with a 2-3 min speech on skills you will need to succeed both in school and in life. She's right though, so most students respect her. There is no need for the textbook, and there is no homework. You will need to take good notes. Your grade depends on 6 tests, with the low score dropped.
Her class is simple. Show up, learn the content from the slides, take the tests, and pass the class. 6 multiple choice tests (if you have an A by the 5th you dont have to take the last) with 2 bonus questions each. Super straight forward and not very much material per test. She asks questions on the tests that seem a bit ambiguous but shes solid.
Excellent teacher. No surprises. Go to class, take good notes. Her exams are from class notes. 6 exams/drop one. Extra credit questions in all exams.
Caring teacher. She is excellent, highly qualified. Dr. J is one of the best at NOVA. Her lecture is simple and straight forward. She gives a detailed study guide. All exams are from class notes. There are extra credit questions in all exams. Learn from her and you will love Economics. TAKE THIS TEACHER!!!
Dr. J teaches students exactly what they need to know. She lectures on practical life skills too - bonus! To earn an A, print out the slides before class and look them over. Be an active note taker - the examples she gives are important. If she highlights or stars something, you should too. Answer study guide questions using notes and slides.
She's what you are looking for in a professor, if you are able to pay attention and take notes, there is no way you can do bad. She's easy to understand and provides good examples, her classes seem short, and there is no homework aside from studying.
Doctor J. is very smart, but what she does not understand is that students are not in the same level as her. She reads off the power points and does not give you good explanations about the topics, but she expects you to know everything perfectly! her tests are super tricky its like she is trying to fail you. If you have questions she won't answer.
A straight-forward class with a good-humored and reasonable professor. She's straight to the point and explains the concepts well, and her grading methods are super fair. She drops the lowest score of your six exams, and they're relatively fair in difficulty. Would definitely recommend.
Very good professor. She explains everything clearly, gives a lot of extra credit, and drops your lowest grade. There is no way youre not getting an A if you lend her your attention during the class.
There are 6 tests and she will drop your lowest test. Show up to class and take notes. Review the study guide before the tests and you will be fine. By the way, her accent is heavy so try to pay attention in class.
Not the professors fault but she has an accent which you should keep in mind if English isnt your first language, I had trouble understanding her. She has good lectures.
I have a little problem with Dr. J's accent at the very begining of class, but the problem was gone few classes later. She connected many econ knowleges with her rich real life experiences. I like when she tell us the story about herself. The secret to be seccess in this class is focus on what Dr J saying in the class and take good notes. Take her!
Excellent teacher. Fair and caring and is always available to help. If you are motivated and go to class there is no way you can fail this class. Take her. She gives you a good foundation for Econ 202. I am taking her again.
Wonderful and wise professor! Fair grading with 4 exams, and you can skip the final exam once you've earned your desired grade. Exams are based on class discussions and slides, nice and simple.
This is one of the best at NOVA. Very clear and very interesting classes. Uses interesting examples and makes difficult material easy to understand. Very compassionate teacher. I simply loved the class and learnt soooo much. I don't know how anyone can fail this class. She gives extra credit in every exam.
Professor Jayatilake gives awesome lectures that do a really good job of explaining the subject matter with context and examples from her own experience. The only downside is that her test questions are based on things she says in her lectures, which won't be posted anywhere else. So if you miss a class, you better get the notes from someone else.
Dr J knows her topic. TO THE POINT Power Points, no unnecessary nonsense. A slight accent, but not that bad. Tests are also TO THE POINT! She has many options for extra credit. I would take her again! Oh, DON'T get the text book, it is big , heavy and the print is too small, waste of money, . Tested material is in lectures.
Attendance is not mandatory, but must go and take notes in order to do well on the exams. Powerpoint's are posted but don't explain concepts that well. Over all a good professor, getting an A is achievable. No homework or need of textbook. 6 exams and a paper.
She's a pretty cool and funny professors. She lectures every class and sometimes it's hard to absorb all the information she presents. Her exams aren't very long and she provides study guides for her exams so there isn't a reason why you shouldn't pass.
Gives inspiring speeches, but doesn't realize that students need help with school work, not life tips. Skip a class? Expect to fail. It feels like she intentionally tries to fail people because no matter what emergency comes up, if you're not in class, you miss info on test.. :( Study guide and practice tests don't help. But extra creditseasy A!
She is AWESOME!! All you have to do to pass with an A is read her slides and listen to her lectures. I had to retake this class because I had a bad professor. Now with her I have a 90%. Tests are easy, she lets you drop the lowest test grade or skip the last test. And has extra credit which can bump you a whole letter grade. She also has jokes!
She's great. She is very funny, gives good advice, and it is obvious that she is very passionate about what she teaches. The only grading comes from six multiple-choice tests, the lowest grade of which gets dropped. If you show up to every class and take a reasonable amount of notes you will probably have an A to exempt you from the last test.
Awesome teacher. 6 exams drop one test grade. Simple straight forward exams and lecturers. Teacher is hilarious and makes the class interesting. I am taking her 202 class next semester.
Dr. J is easily one of the best professors at NOVA. She makes class fun and enjoyable. You need to come to class, however. The test have questions not on the slides but that she talks about in class. Show up, take notes, and do the study guides and practice test and you will pass. Your grade is based on only 6 test and she drops your lowest score.
Dr.J gives inspiring talks about higher education and promotes critical thinking among her students. Every lecture is full of information. If you miss class, you won't do well on exams. Take her if you want to learn a lot about ECON. If you don't pass her class, you're likely not ready for a 4-year college experience. Extra credit chance. Funny!
A lot of extra credits! I took her eco 201 and she is nice. TAKE NOTES in class otherwise you wont pass. Best professor in NOVA
Mixed feelings about this particular course. It wasn't too hard, although the teaching style wasn't too helpful to me. Very lecture heavy, must take notes!!! Notes given IN CLASS will be on the test! Study guide for every test with practice questions are very helpful. Take her, she makes econ understanding.
Very good teacher. Dr. J makes econ easy and fun to learn. Take her only if you are really interested in the subject. She gives very informative lecturers and all the questions are from class notes and the practice test is very helpful. I met her several times during office hours and she was very helpful. One of the BEST at NOVA.
Just passed the class on the first 5 exams and spring semester still has 4 weeks remaining. That's what awesome about this class. You literally skip the final. What more do you want!? Plus no h.w. :) But the test is difficult so take notes, I personally recorded the lectures which helped me a lot
Awsome class. Dr. J is a caring teacher who is devoted to student success. She drives you hard and with her inspirational lectures she motivates us to do our best. All her questions are from class notes. Do the study guide and the practice test and you will make an A woihout a problem.
This class is solely based on tests and nothing else. Show up to class and take in-class notes, you WILL fail the class if you don't. She clearly explains everything you need in order to pass the class with an A and really is committed to having her students succeed. Highly recommend her, take her!!
1/ 6 test for the whole semester and she will drop the lowest one 2/ Amazing lecture 3/ We were always dismissed early 4/ Easy test, 22 questions each 5/ NO HOMEWORK
I hate economy but she is such a good teacher and I loved her class. I could tell that she prepared her materials well so that the students can understand them. The key is to attend the classes, take notes, and go over the notes the same night. Exams are based on her lectures so attendance is a must. 6 tests and 1 lowest dropped! E credit @ the end
5 tests, drops the lowest, you can choose not to do #5 if you already have an A. Attendance not mandatory. No homework. A bit of EC throughout tests and a good bit at the end if needed. Posts ppts online, if you can study on your own you can get an A. No-nonsense but very fair, just study ppts & study guides and you'll get an A!
Fantastic teacher. Extreemly knowledeable. Makes econ simple and interesting. I love her class and always look forward going to class. 5 exams and the lowest test grade dropped. Gives extra credit to boost our grade. Take this teacher. you will learn soooo much.
Overall good professor and quite an easy class. Took for a 6-week summer course. 5 Exams (lowest dropped) with the last being optional if you have an A and a couple of extra credit. Always ends class earlier than stated time. Exams do get a bit tougher as you progressed so pay attention and study hard. Even so there should not be a reason to fail.
I really enjoyed my time with Prof. J. She isn't the most sociable and can be a little harsh but I (personally) had no problem with her class. She provides helpful study guides and everything on the tests comes from powerpoint and lecture. She is extremely knowledgable and a wonderful professor. She wants everyone to work hard and succeed!
Took Ms. J for ECON 201 in the fall. Your entire grade comes from 6 tests, no homework or projects. Study before each test and you'll be good. She gives good feedback.
Excellent teacher. Well prepared, and knows the subject inside out. Dr. J is inspirational and tries to motivate students to excel. She is fair and very funny at times. Exams are from class notes and some times little tough. She also gives extra credit opportunities to help us get a good grade. Take her!
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. I was excited to take Econ 201 with Professor Jayatilake because of the high reviews she had and I heard she was easy but recently she has changed her material and she gives very hard exams that are trick questions. She claims every question comes off the powerpoint but that is not true. Do not waste your time
Idk why she has such a high rating. She didn't know how to teach and it was very hard to understand her. Class ended very early and it made you wonder if it was even worth it. 1 test out of 6 was dropped but it was hard to do well on them since they were very confusing. Don't think it's an easy A if you're taking it for the first time. Study a lot.
Best Econ teacher. I learn from her in the easiest and most effective ways. You don't have to spend $ on any textbook, just please attend her lecture and take proper notes, and please STUDY, ask when confused. She will divide extra credits questions evenly on all tests, or put them all in one or two tests. Take her to pass your Econ credits easily.
She is an amazing professor, she has a very easy layout of how to get a really good grade. 6 Test, lowest test is dropped, extra credit assignment really important and easy at the end of the semester.
She is wonderful. I just have to attend lectures, take notes, and study the materials, then I passed with an A. Try to come early to take the front seats, so you can hear her better. If you miss one class, you should borrow s.o's notes right away to study for the test. NO HOMEWORK OR PROJECTS. Easy class with many extra credits opportunity.
Dr. J. is one of the best professors at NOVA. She is very knowledgeable about economics and shares that passion with all students in the class. She is clear about the grading process and the expectations for the class so if you pay attention and stay involved with the material, you will do well. If you fail, you deserved it. Dr. J is very fair.
Dr. J is great. Lectures are entertaining and informative, lots of tidbits there to help make concepts on slides clear. Dont skip class. Grade comes from exams only; no hw, a few extra credit points available. If you are a student that needs homework points to help keep your grade up, maybe not the right choice. Lectures + slides + study hard A
Just finished her ECO 201 class. You will get an easy A if you understand the concept and hang on her every word. She is also responsive to email and helpful. Take her! :)
Professor Js lectures are really good. She explains everything so well. She wants everyone to pass, she gives lots of extra credit. Your lowest exam will be dropped too! Amazing professor, take her!!!
I took a 6 week ECO 201 class. In the beginning I thought the class would be extremely hard but her style of teaching and structure of grading really made it easy to understand the subject and study for the tests. She really allows her students to step up their game through giving extra credit work which really helped my case. Definitely take her.
She's a good professor but her taking notes from her lectures won't help you at all because none of it will be on the test. The study guides don't help and it is completely different from what is on the test. She's also very rude and can't help you with anything if needed. Don't take her because you will waste your money.
Great teacher. Tells you everything that is going to be on the test so just go to class and study what she says and the tests will be easy.
This is the best professor in all of NOVA It is not an easy A but it's not hard She gives you the materials you need to pass ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS STUDY! 6 tests noncumulative lowest dropped extra credit! Very good at explaining things and makes it simple to understand take her in 201+202 you won't regret it, as long as you show up you can pass.
Dr. Jay is great! Her lectures are concise, easy to understand, and exciting! If you show up to class and do her study guides, you will learn and pass this class. Her stories and real world examples help students understand Econ concepts.
The professor herself is alright, but none of the material that she puts on the study guides or in the class notes will be on the test. She's misleading in her material and led me to barely passing her class. If you can pay attention to every word she has to say, then go for it. But she is not forgiving at all when it comes to the material.
Requires camera when taking test. Tests are your only grades. Straightforward with the material, powerpoints are simple, however, the tests can be worded weirdly causing confusion. Can be more organized with canvas. Extra credit MATTERS. more points influences PERCENTAGE of grade. Ends lectures early and is a SOLID teacher.
Go to class. Do the study guide and practice test. Helpful and really wants students to learn and pass. She is clear and power points help a great deal too. Dr. J gives extra credit to help us boost our grade. Excellent teacher. Take her.
Loved Dr. J's class. Not any assignments outside of tests but does have extra credit. Must pay attention in class to do well, but class always ends early. Lots of study time but totally worth it cause you actually learn. Taking her again over the summer.
its really important that you do learn what she teaches in lectures. As long as you study, quizzes will be easy and youll pass. She doesnt give any HW and she did give extra credit. Honestly, the material isnt hard at all, main thing is to study the lectures and you will pass.
A REAL GEM. Her tests are exactly like the notes and lectures. If you pay attention during class AND take notes you will definitely pass. One of the very few professors at nova that actually know what they're doing.
Know the exam days and show up for those days to take the test all the notes are online so you dont need to be in class she is nice and grades not to harshesly
Amazing lecture! She simplifies economics in a way that is comprehendible. You have 6 tests the whole semester and the lowest grade is dropped. If you take notes during lectures YOU WILL PASS
LISTEN THIS IS THE REAL REVIEW I took this class for the fall and after being it the way how she teaches is nice but HEADS UP you will fail on test the lecture are straightforward but the quiz are questions that you gotta think out of the box and good luck most of the stuff you write down is not even on them so its hard for no reason
She gives a good study guide before tests, but then the tests don't ask questions from the study guide. it seems like she's trying to trick students with the questions. the class averages on all the tests was around a 70 so be prepared for that. I took her class because of the good reviews on here but they are misleading.
The class consists of 6 exams, dropping the lowest, no homework. Attendance isn't required but you need to attend each class in order to do well on the exams. The powerpoints are simple and straight forward, and her lectures provide much more insight and information which is why being present in the class and attentive is so important. I love her.
Awesome teacher. passionate about her teaching. detail oriented and gives clear lectures, study guide, practice test and extra credit. You will not fail unless you did not go to class. She is interesting and humorous. Highly recommend this teacher.
At the beginning of the semester she advised us to focus in class and the exams wouldn't be too difficult. That was true, just listen in class and you'll do fine on exams.
To sum it all up, You either know it or you don't. Lectures are very fast and hard to understand. Tests are not based on lectures or study guides. You have to actually KNOW the concept. If you are a first-timer like me, very hard to absorb these foreign concepts in a small amount of time. This class is for intelligent ppl who KNOW econ. Tough
Very good professor, instructions in her class are very clear and simple. All material for the tests come from the class slideshows and it is easy to get an A if you learn it. Every test is out of 110%, so there is a ton of extra credit, plus an extra credit assignment at the end of the semester. One test also gets dropped.
Class outline is terrible. She has no homework, she only has tests. Around 5 tests, and all are multiple choice with questions that are not on the study guide. She purposely words her questions in ways that are either borderline false or just confusing and doesn't help a student actually comprehend her teachings. Can only write 350 letters here..
Excellent teacher. I took both ECO201 and 202 with her and it's the same format. Pay attention in class, take notes, watch the videos if she assigns them, do the practice test and study guides and you'll do fine. Plenty of extra credit on each test and at the end of the course if you need it.
Professor Jayatilake was an amazing professor and if you are able to take her class you should. You can tell she really cares about the material and also her students. No time is wasted during lectures and the information is explained extremely well. If you do the study guides and practice tests you are certain to pass with great marks.
Id like to start with the fact this teacher refused to answer questions repeatedly told us the students she wouldnt also TODAY IS THE LAST DAY OF THE SEMESTER AND SHE NEVER POSTED GRADES ON CANVAS not once the entire semester by gradebook has n/a the entire semester and when you ask what your grade is she says you should be able to figure it out
I took the 6 weeks summer class. There was no homework and your grade was made up of 5 tests which are all multiple choice. Your lowest grade will be dropped and there is also an extra credit paper you can write to help boost your grade. Great Professor, great class !
Held the standards high for her students as she should. Used real-world examples that helped me understand the material better. Provided us with study guides and practice tests before taking the exams. Total of 5 exams if you're taking the online 6-week course. She drops your lowest exam grade.
Great professor. Actually wants you to succeed and cares about her students. She tries her best to make sure her students understand and aren't confused. She has a clear and fair grading criteria. 5 exams, lowest is dropped, and one extra credit assignment. Exams are through zoom. Exams are a little difficult so be sure to pay attention in class.
5 exams, open note, done through zoom w/camera on, pay attention in class, she ends class early so you won't get bored out, 1.5 hour max. Professor is straight-forward. Don't waste peoples time with questions that are easily answered if you just look at her clear-cut syllabus.
She talked the entire class and sometimes it was hard to understand her due to her accent (which is totally fine). She presented slides very quickly you couldn't write them down with definitions that weren't clear whatsoever and would end class after 30 minutes. No HW only test for grades. She doesn't even remember the dates of the test.
Ended lectures early 90% of the time. The slides were very vague so I recorded the lectures and only wrote down what she said in class. 5 exams, all multiple choice, and she drops the lowest. Some questions were very vague but if enough people got it wrong due to poor wording she would drop it. One written extra credit oppurtinity at the end.
Difficulties understanding this class, Slides are just read out loud. Exams are 45 minutes, which gets interrupted by other students. If you have difficulties concentrating during tests, good luck. I Reach out to the professor, she said that everyone else is doing great and dismiss me. If your and average learner, you will do fine in her class.
Outstanding professor, really cares about students success. 5 tests, drops the lowest grade. 1 extra credit assignment. As long as you attend class, take detailed notes, complete the study guides, watch the videos, and use all the resources in canvas you will get an A. I'm not good at econ but I was able to get an A and learn
Great class, she makes each lecture available to rewatch. As long as you take notes during the lecture, you'll be fine during the tests (open-notes, on camera). Don't rely on the slides, make sure you listen through the lectures (I did on 2x speed) each around an hour or less. She breaks down each concept and makes everything easy to understand.
Professor Jayatilake makes the material easy to understand. With open-note exams, clear instructions, and helpful practice tests, you can do well as long as you stay engaged in class. I found unstuckstudy ai great for review prep alongside the course resources.
Her lectures are good. The study guides say exactly what is on the test. There's a lot of extra credit.
This teacher DOES NOT KNOW HOW TO WRITE A TEST. There is no textbook for her classes and we were expected to have memorized the off-hand comments she made while explaining the material. There were no assignments aside from the tests and the tests would have questions that weren't in the notes.
Eco 150 - She talks very fast and is hard to follow at times. Highly recommend recording the class, the zoom recording doesn't always work. Grade based on 6 tests, allowed to drop lowest. Tests aren't easy, wants to see if you really understand the material. Gives real world examples. She is firm, but fair. Responds to emails quickly.
The professor mostly reads off the PowerPoint slides during her lectures, so be prepared to study on your own and ask for help if needed. Notes are allowed during tests (no lockdown browser). The class is straightforward and manageable overall.
She knows the material well and gives detailed lectures. The difficulty is in your ability to listen and take notes as this is what will make or break the grade. There are study guides that are really worth studying for a good grade, but not all exams have one. Scantron tests based on details mentioned, and stressed in class and documentaries
I took her summer course, and she did mention that she is retiring :( But she was a great professor! She was extremely clear in her lectures and gave good examples to fully understand. She did not really assign homework or anything. She did give us an extra credit opportunity at the end. It's sad to see her go.
