This professor is great!! Will help you pass math and is concerned with your grades. He has easy tests and no homework!! I would love to take all my math courses with him if I could.

Really hard, screams at the top of his lungs, makes you go to the board for every problem, flies through lectures and expects you to know everything.
He doesnt really explain well although, he is concerned with your grades hes test are open book but hard. Also, at the end of this semester hes giving us a take home test to pull out grades up so def reccomend him.
He is an awesome professor! I love him and is well recommanded in my opinion. He will give you the chance that you need, and he will give you the grade you deserve. He's a blessing, take him you will not regret it. Trust me.
Very laid back type of guy. He lived in russia so he believes we should all know math. All I can say is MATH LAB. You will pass as long as he sees that you try and make an effort he will pass you with the highest grade. I got an A although, I would go to the board all the time he likes that though just try and you will pass.
I had the GREAT OPPORTUNITY to take this class with Prof. Carames!!! and telling you all, if you show up on time to all his trig classes, there's no way you can fail it!!! I took it for summer B and I got an A!!! Take Carames and go to the board and you'll be fine!!!
Great guy, open book tests, very helpful, nice guy, he's a little loud when he talks but has a great heart. He used to say after each class "I love you" :'(... i passed with a B. Very recommended!
i do not recommend him becuase one would not understand. he is not so easy to understand. if one goes to him personally then he will explain everything. other wise, get another professor that teaches better.

Professor Manuel Carames seems to be hard on the first time. He is very strick when it comes to attendance you can take him even though the class is hard the first time do not drop the class. You will pass his class, and make sure you are on time. I recommand Dr. Manuel Carames.
This professor is very hard to understand. When questions are asked in class he tries to be funny and dont answer it. makes a fuell of your self....Not good. I never had problems with math and here im taking the class over with another professor because of him. NOT RECOMENDED.
I had him for mat0020 and 1033. he's a goog guy, and very helpful. his mouth gets very loud, and he likes you to come to the board..even if you dont know what the heck you're doing. he's awesome and he's willing to help.
Don't do it. He is so incredibly hard to understand, and i don't mean because of his accent. If you ask a question he makes it into a joke, doesn't really answer your question. The only way you can pass this class is if you are willing to put in extra hours at the math lab so THEY can teach you, and learn material yourself.
If you're taking this class be prepared to study by yourself, or seek help from others. He will be more lost than you are, and give answers like "what the hell is that?" "eh very good" and not answer your question at all. He goes by his own rules, not actual math rules. VERY confusing!

He is a very nice professor, he lets you get away with a lot and you will learn if you pay attention, he is the most flexible teacher ever, and he does help you if you ask for it, hes funny and makes mistakes but who doesn't.. the tests are easy and notes are allowed take him if you want to pass with out trying so hard
Aweful professor. He seems like a nice person, but that has nothing to do with his ability to teach this subject. He screams all class long, saying things like "Do you understand what I am saying?" in a deafening tone. Truthfully, you have to use the math lab to pass this class. The book is terrible and useless for studying. Not recommended.

THIS PROFESSOR IS THE WORST DON'T TAKE HIM. I HAD HIM FOR 1033. HE TOLD THE CLASS THAT WE WERE DOING GOOD. AFTER THE EVALUATION HE FAILED ALL 8 OF US. CONSIDERED YOUR SELF WARNED UNLESS YOUR DEF. If u know math already then hes a good prof..but if you dont be warned YOU WILL FAIL unless u put extra hours into the lab..be ready to get ranked on randomly i sware this guy is hilarious specially when he gets red and yells and starts looking like hes going to pop. he says funny lines like"very good" and seems to be confused with calling MDC UM
He is awesome! Amazing person, very understanding. He provided us with text books. He gave us reviews with the same problems from the exams. Guaranteed A, if you go to class and do the review handouts. He has a great sense of humor. He keeps his students entertained. He is down to earth! Take it if you want an easy A!

Exellent professor. As the previous post he does provide the text book and the man does have his bad temper but none the less you are guaranteed to pass. Participate attend class and do his hand out and thats your B.
Dr. Carames is a wonderful person and in our interest a great teacher. Knows A LOT of math and always tries to help his students understand the essence of the subject. He does not yell nor scream, he just speaks loudly! Awkwardly enough he also expects you to know what you're supposed to know. Other than that, show up for class and learn.
This professor is very hard. I am horrible at math and I think he made it even worse. He doesn't go by the book and he teaches everything while screaming. I do NOT recommend him if you have trouble with math, half the class failed and withdrew.
this is a great teacher he reaaly tries to help all his students his english may not be great but he is wonderful just make sure to ask questions. he is totally cool if you dont past that means you did not try. he hands out reviews before the test. again cant stress great teacher
he is not great at teaching but great in office hours and a wonderful professor. he gives you a packet with question and answers for the test, and picks ten from the packet for the test, best part, he lets use the packet with the answers plus book and calculator if you want. all you have to do is show work. if you do the packets you have an A!
This professor is pretty nice but not a good teacher. He DOES NOT TEACH. He does not teach/review each chapter, he makes the students go to the board and do the check your understanding problems. Then moves on to the next chapter. The students teach themselves. He just sits there. I guess he's too tired to get up. Bad professor. Math lab saved me.
Will need for sure to read and study the book because what he teaches in class is not enough. However, I love his approach to the mathematics, very helpful. Be ready to work very hard and spend a lot of time doing homework. If you do so, you'll get an A for sure.
You learn alot from the take home packet.He lets you bring it & anything else you want to every test.If you have an A or B average, you dont have to take the final.The only people who fail are the ones that dont do the take home packet.Hes funny & a little hard of hearing so dont think his raised voice is becuase hes yelling at you.Great professor.
This is one of the best Calculus professor. But you have to do all of the questions in the packet. Go home and study.because what he teach is not enough. And be prepared to go up to the board. but overall Great Class.
He did a 180 this semester. The packets that previous students spoke about are history. The online program he uses is horrible. I have learned nothing from his lectures and to make matters worse only 6 people passed his last exam. Do not take him for Calculus, you have been forewarned.

His teaching skills are not that great, and without the Take Home Packet students will fail the class because they don't really learn the material, they just copy each other and get free A's. So he had to unfortunately cut the packets!! Believe me if you show him that you study, can answer a few questions and make effort to learn he won't fail you.

Carames is a funny guy, who wont teach you anythig in class. He will take attendance, drink coffee, solve 2 easy problems and then relax. He gets tired verryyy easy. Need to know extremely well trigonometry, exams are hard, most of them solving problems, and be prepared to go to the board.

Mr. Carames teaches at North Campus & he's d worst professor in the world. He screams at the class all the time & it's impossible to understand him, his English is horrible, not even hispanics can understand what he's saying. This teacher is an insult to good teachers everywhere. He severely lacks the ability to teach. I have had this teacher for MAC1140 and MAC1114. I got an A in both, however, it was in no effort or thanks to the teacher. He is the worse teacher I have ever had. His idea of teaching is to sit in his chair and have students come to the board. Absurd.
Not the easiest teacher but then not an easy subject. There is loads of hw but its online to be done at your leisure. Luckily, his exams were online as well, although in class he allows you to use notes, and textbooks. Sounds easy but if you don't understand the material be prepared to stare at a blank page! Study! His bark is louder than his bite.

So you got an A in trig, pre-cal and mac1105, so you think youll pass right?Wrong!!!His tests are mostly word problems that werent taught in class and his online homeworks take a good 20 hrs a week to complete.Be prepared to learn nothing from him.half the class will drop by the first week and he likes it cuase he dosnt liketo teach full classes.
Take him for MAC1147 if you love math, that's the only way you will be able to pass the class. I have an A but only 5 people are passing the class, trust me he is very intelligent but you have to be really good at math.

One of the funniest guys I have ever encountered. Gives a ton of Math Lab assignments (he is forced to use the software bc of Dept. policy). Makes himself free for many hours in his office. He has a problem controlling the volume of his voice so be aware. NEVER be a min late to the class, he will flunk you for that

Great professor encourages and shows real world application problems. Not the usual boring lecture class. He is very loud and can be intimidating but he is a great person and is extremely helpfu. Also he is always available for questions. If you take the time and do all the homework and study an A shouldnt be a problem
First appearances Professor Carames can be intimidating. He is loud. You will not fall asleep in his class. Do not be late. However, if he sees you trying really hard, he will help you. He really is not so bad and cares if you care! He does have an accent and yells a lot but if you take him, you will find Mat0030 easy.
If you are in MAT003, then sorry, that is not the only class you have failed. Back to the teacher now, He is not easy but is very bright, he just has a method of us learning the material on our own. It works for some, but not for others. I got, no, I earned an A in the class, but whoever said it was 20 hours a week for HW was being generous :(
He is fair. People at mdc need to realize life is about trying your best. People think grades are given not earned. In are class 17 passed with A and 14 F. If he sees you try you will pass trust me. Just try your best.

Prof Carames has 2 rules: 1) Always arrive early & ready to learn. And 2) Don't be violent. He cares to help anyone who tries. If you put forth the right effort you will pass
Class was ALWAYS a drag. Rule 1: Don't be late. Rule 2: don't expect him to teach anything during class time. All he did was give some petty explanations for some pictures. And when we did example problems, HE COULDN'T SOLVE THEM! He has a terrible accent. And finally, for all the hw and exams he gave he'd give you last minute deadlines. STAY AWAY!

Up to this point he is my least favorite professor! He would try to explain and communicate with the class, but after a while , both the class and he lost interest. It felt like we were taking an online course. Yes it was an easy A because all the work (YES EVEN THE TESTS) were online, but I would have preferred anything than continue his class!
If you good in math or you have anybody to help you is an easy class everything was online. Just go a class on time.

It's simple: if this is the last math class for you, do take him. Just do the assignments, and do the online (everything is online) tests with other people from the class and you'll get an A. However, if you have to take anything else later, you will be in the worse shape possible for that class. He doesn't stand up at all & lectures are confusing.
Typical miami dade online physics class. Although the Professor would not answer any questions by email and everything in the beginning setting-up process was a mess, the class was straightfoward after. Homework was all online given together so that you do it at your pace, online exams, and 1 proctored exam. Easy.

He is very LOUD and opinionated. He expects you to know the basics of Algebra but knows that most people don't. Although in class he seems unapproachable you can see him during office hours and he is a totally different person. He does care about you and if you pass but he wants you to know the material no just get by.
I took two math courses with him and I absolutely love his class! he is amazing & wants you to do your best. his intention is never to fail you, he wants everyone to pass! he is an amazing math professor and has a very kind heart!! if he had a statistics class, I would definitely take it with him. great students come from great teachers like him!
Carames genuinely cares about his students and is extremely knowledgeable about all sorts of things. As long as you attend class and do your work, you will get a good grade. If you can get past his intimidating facade and participate in class, you'll find a lot to love. Just don't take his classes if you are not interested in math or science.
Worst Prof. I have ever had in my entire life. He is extremely condescending, rude, and not helpful at all. When I asked him a question about the course he replied something to the effect of "Did you read the syllabus? Try that maybe." and made NO ATTEMPT to answer me. There are also graded assignments that are not listed on the assignments list.
Professor carames is outstanding in terms of his ability to teach students and make the learning environment very encourage . Be prepared to be there on time , to see the Vinculum and then great success will be upon you. He makes it his mission to make calculus sexy .
He loves student with an engineering major or anything related to exact sciences. No cell phones, no stretching on class, try to sit in front, attend class(be on time), I feel you need to be mature to get in his class. Pass by his office to anything and he will help you! Very knowledge professor!

Had him for precal/trig, and linear algebra. Taught the honors course, mind you my classmates went on to prestigious universities, heads of the math club, etc. All agree, terrible professor. Unless you are a genius, don't expect to learn a thing from him. No Cararmes, 3 things are true in this life: We pay taxes, we die, and you can't teach.

Yells all the time. Dont like participating? Then dont take him because he forces you to come up and participate even if you dont know what to do... if you reject going up to the board he will yell and embarrass you for not knowing the material. He humiliates anyone with a major thats not math related. You most likely wont learn anything.
I took this class online over the summer and I was very happy about that choice. He's very understanding and accessible. There was only homework which helped a lot, 4 quizzes, and a midterm. You really need an access code to complete assignments and study hard because trigonometry is not easy at all. Great class.
He is super loud. He kicks you out if you're even a second late to class, even though he shows up late most of the time. He calls you up to the board involuntarily, even if you don't understand the work which is pointless because he'll tell you to sit back down and call someone else to do it. I'm glad that was my last math bc I learned nothing.

This professor was very loud and screams every class. He does not teach the subject well and relies on the powerpoints. You are better off reading the textbook. The examples he uses do not help and his explanations are very superficial. Overall, make sure you do well on MyMathLab to pass the class.
this class was very hard,after not doing so good i contacted the professor to see if there was anything i could do , and i got no help. he made me drive an hour away from home for something he could've answered in an email. he is very strict and believes that you should know it but then wont really help. if you're still going to take him. goodluck.
Ok, so I personally really don't like him. He barely teaches at all and just sits there with a little tablet "thingy" and writes things on it. His class is two hours long consisting of him screaming and calling students incompetent. The good thing about the class is that everything is online (yes the tests too), but he's not very helpful at all.
Get ready for the sexiest calculus course of your life haha! Dr. Carames is outstanding in how he teaches his students and spices it up with unlimited humor. Do not take any of his jokes personal. He wants the best for all of his students. Pay attention and ask questions and you will be successful! For more on this, read the National Geographic :)!

*READ* I took professor for MAC1147, I thought he was gone by now, but he's open for MAC2311. You bet I'm taking him again. Yeah he's rude for our social standards but this professor is one to not miss out on. all mymathlab and lecture, that's it! I am a basic math person and this professor is the one to take if you can think outside the box.
I honestly have to say, that this guy is one of the most rudest and unprofessional professors here at MDC. All he does is yell, yell, and yell. He complains that nobody participates, but when they do try to answer his question or even ask one he yells at them and makes them feel stupid. All in all he's a bad teacher that acts like a bratty child.
Professor Carames is very engaged in student learning. He tries everything possible to have his students understand the work he is demonstrating to us. My over all feedback on Professor Carames would be very enthusiastic about teaching I would recommend his class to anyone. Hes hand down one of the good professor, he does not give up on students.

He's very disorganized, especially with the quizzes. Every class he will give you a quiz, and sometimes it wasn't about what we went over or was a completely new concept. The homework can seem overwhelming but can be done. This is a class where you're going to have to teach yourself. If I were to know all this, I would've picked another professor.
This is one of the worst teachers I have ever had in my entire high school and college careers combined. He gives ten-minute quizzes that do not provide nearly enough time to complete questions and then gets angry when you ask him to either give more time or give fewer questions. He is just awful at explaining things.

Professor Manuel is a good teacher I dont regret I took him for this class,my advice get your own experience with him.
He isn't a terrible professor, but you'll probably get more pay off if you learn the material yourself. Pro: you can do the homework and exams whenever you want and no final. Con: he makes you take 10 minute quizzes at the beginning of every class, may be hard to understand, the homework has a lot of questions but he counts 50% completion as an A.
I would NEVER recommend anyone to this professor, every class he gives a 10 minute quiz that has 3-5 questions, which in total is worth 40% of your total grade. Missed one? Tough luck he wont excuse it. Homework's incredibly tedious with each having 80+ questions, if you get a question wrong it wont explain how to do it you just have to know. Awful
Attendance wasn't mandatory, stopped coming the 2nd week. Easy A class, just do the hw (you have the whole semester to turn it in) the hw is a lot but it's not that bad. If you decide to take him, you'll be fine I promise.
If you want to learn then this class is not for you. PRO - Attendance optional. Entire semester to finish homework CON - Homework is about 600 questions. He does not teach, poor tech skills, little-no explanations. Unprofessional, unapologetic or understanding. Incoherent at times due to yelling or confusing lectures. Goes off-topic several times.
This professor is a nightmare. He assigns tons of homework, gets angry with mistakes (even kicking out people from class), ignores emails, and never help with questions. He doesn't care about students at all. He vapes during class and his explanations are incomprehensible making learning impossible. Avoid this professor if you value your sanity.
Taking this class online, he created six exams based on the homework, a lot of homework with 100 questions for no reason; each question is two pages of work, and the exams are hard as f.... he puts the grade 40% homework, 50% exams, and 5% midterm. when I did the midterm, it was easier than the other exams. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASSES
600+ questions, attendance-optional, & incomprehensible lectures ESPECIALLY if online. Do not choose this Professor!!!
Would not recommend this teacher tbh,I gave him a 4 because he took a liking to me as a student,we were cool and he let me slide a couple of times, he was also funny to me, but I see why the majority gave him a 1. For starters, you could barely understand him in the lectures, he doesn't understand what he does.if there were more words I could go on
Don't take him at all costs; he can traumatize you and get you sent to a mental health hospital easily; he vapes in class and talks about random stuff that doesn't relate to the math. 100 problems per chapter in the homework. Exam problems are harder than those in the homework. He will not set you up for failure, he will set you up for death.
He genuinely doesn't want to be there. His class has very little structure and he just kind of teaches whatever.
NOT A TEACHING/LEARNING ASSISTANT. Took his mini-semester (6-weeks) as a high school junior. Yes, his class is so hard, but if you genuinely participate and give everything maximum effort, he WILL see that. The people rating him horribly is because they either don't try or cheated the entire time. He's so open to helping, just need to ask.
He is very disorganized with grading and assignments. Never replies to emails. Started the semester with an incorrect and incomplete grading scale. The grade book is very messy because he post assignments and when you go to open them they aren't even available.
Carames' class is a mixed bag - heavy on homework, but an easy A if you put in the work. Unstuck AI was a game-changer for prepping for tests. Not the most engaging lectures, but the material is straightforward.
Honestly if you attend his class with a high school mindset just drop out of his class and choose another teacher. Yes, he comes off as disrespectful but it's an easy class to pass. You just have to be willing to put your emotions aside, BE ON TIME, and participate. Everything he goes over is in the textbook. By the end, you'll pass the class
He is a really good person but old, he speeds through the optional lectures and is too tired to do the problems and says "you know how to do it". expect to teach urself
This professor was terrible in terms of being present. He held a few lectures for our class and then nothing else. Tons of homework all done through Pearson, he didn't respond to any of my messages on canvas. If you need Calc III i recommend seeking a different professor. Final doesn't seem to be proctored but I'm not sure.
Absolutely worst professor.
Tests every morning as soon as we walked into class, be on time! I felt like the material was so rushed I had to force myself to match the speed of the professor. He is a nice guy outside of the course and will help you if you show you understand the course and you're trying. But honestly, will not take another class with him.
Carames is "interesting". If math is your weakest subject (like me), I would consider taking another teacher. He is extremely mathematically focused, and requires a lot of prior/current understanding of the material for you to keep up. The class is also very chaotic, he gets mad at non-STEM majors, and goes on weird tangents. Overall, just strange.
