Im taking his summer course, so far its just a lot of reading and some small essays. All in all he's pretty good and mildly easy. He likes people to pair up and you have to present an essay to the class at least twice, but its easy.

Took Creative Writing workshop (summer). No talent required, just do the work. He doesn't let his biases get in the way of his grading. He also runs the "workshopping" part of class well.

I do not understand these students who pariase him! Did they kiss a$$ or had consensual relations with him? He expects essays to be perfect when he doesn nto even teach and how he wants them! Almost impossible to get an "A" Take someone else

Took Perea Eng1A over the summer. LOTS of prolonged discussions that always wander off topic. Pretty easy grading scale. He doesn't really teach you how to write in class, but expects you to write fairly good papers. Always open to help. I recommend.

I don't know why people are putting him down, he is a good teacher. I'm getting an A in his class...and I'm not even trying as hard as I could. He really cares about his job and the students, it's apparent.

Great teacher, really knows his material and wants students to get a good grasp of subject. He is tough but kind and really cares. If you like to study and really want to learn take him, I guarantee you will learn. He is really nice too.

Great class, especiall for those looking to expand their horizons, with respect to writing. Great mix of nonfiction, fiction, and poetry. Just keep track of all your stuff, turn it in as a "portfolio" at the end of the year, and you'll most likely get an A - he tells you that himself. Great laid back evening class. Would reccomend.

Eventhough his class wasn't the easiest I still thought Mr Perea was a great teacher. Just study-study-study!!!

If you are not a hard worker willing to pay effort and just wishing to get your expected grade, don't take him! Take another teacher who enjoys giving you good grade without giving you too much work. Though it's a hard class with many hard essays, he's a teacher who is very willing to guide you through towards the end of your journey of the class.

Great Professor. I actually learned in his class and enjoyed analyzing poetry and other literary pieces. Not a difficult class but you have to be willing to work and put in effort. His teaching style is well organized and he grades fair (says to get an A you have to earn it). You'll defenitely get something out of this class. Strongly Recommended!

He is the coolest eng teacher. I enjoyed all the readings we had. His essays are not too long (3 pgs) He is well organized. At first I was scare of his eng 1B but he makes the ckass interesting TAKE HIM.

mr. perea is a wonderful english teacher. he assigned interesting material that he personally enjoys. the workload is pretty light, a few in class essays and a few out of class essays. attendance is somewhat important so do show up for class. he's a really nice guy, passionate about teaching, and very helpful if you need any extra help.

Mr. Perea is one of the best teachers at PCC! Please take him especially if you need an easy class to balance with your harder courses. He is a very nice man and you can talk to him about your work. He allows you to revise your essays to improve your grade.

High standard grading in Essay. Not recommended for any ESL students. Really helpful in developing skill, but not nice for your GPA

Very nice and knows what he is talking about. He breaks down EVERYTHING so it's easier to understand. VERY HIGH STANDARDS for writing but he does have a lot of open hours if you need help. Doesn't take attendance but it's crucial to be there for the lecture.

Great teacher! I had to drop the class because I missed alot of class & didn't keep up with when assignment were due. My fault! He's very helpful though & tries to make himself available as much as possible. He is really passionate about his work & worries when students are lagging it. Recommended. Your english will improve tremendously, however he's very stern on grading. Tests, he will allow revisions for the first 3 writing exams, with opportunity to bump up one grade. His hw's are not much but the in-class essays are the killers! Be sure to see him 1 on 1 during office hours for essay help.

He's very clear about what he wants from you (although for some people that's too much). If you don't understand, go see him at his conference hours. He makes plenty of time for his students. It is obvious how much he cares about his job as an educator. Highly recommended!!!

He is a great teacher. Those dorks that dropped out when it got tough can't listen. Just do your work, that he gives you perfect instruction for, you will do well. It is because of him I am a better writer. Take him is you wanna learn to write.

I have absolutely no idea how anyone could complain about this guy, he is extremely helpful and thorough. He expresses genuine interest in the subject and in your writing, and he's pretty clear on what he expects from the assignments. Definitely would take him again.

Good professor, hard essays. Just make sure u ask him 2 proof ur essays and stuff. He's more of a person that makes you want 2 learn English. I mean yeah, the topics were abstract, but he CLARIFIES. P.S. he intimidates u on the 1st day, so don't drop, stick with it.

He's a cool guy with a great personality, but he grades kind of hard. I suggest you take this class if you're gonna be serious about doing the assignments and essays. I ended up with a B in the class.

A very straight forward & strict prof. He expects students to do the level of work that they are eligible for, which is reasonable. The pace of the class is good. He gives enough time for you to do homeworks and essays. THE ESSAY TOPICS are very hard. But, then again, if you are eligible for 1B class, you should able to think more critically.

One of the BEST English teachers I've had. Don't take his class if you don't want to learn how to write and think critically, lol. Lectures are interesting (provided that you are interested in the material). He is a very helpful teacher. He'll teach you how to write and help you develope critical thinking skills. High recs!! Grades easily, imho.

College level class. Wow really? In college? Don't take him if you are a lazy piece looking for an easy A. BUT if you are motivated and smart you will learn a lot from him. You will read really good stuff in his class, so don't take him if you can't read.

One of the best professors I've had so far. He grades hard, but that definitely nudged me to work harder. Very clear, and I loved the material he had us read and write about. I definitely would recommend him :)

Excellent teacher. Very very helpful. Office hours are a must because he is very helpful. Attendance important, none of his classes are worth missing b/c he goes over a lot of information all the time that is helpful for assignments.

Perea is a wonderful teacher. However, he is very monotone and doesn't discipline the class. Makes it incredibly easy to underestimate him. DONT! I had a tendency to tune him out, and could have failed. Luckily realized it before it was too late. As long as you learn from your mistakes you'll do well.

Took his short story class trying to rediscover a love of English. This was the RIGHT class to take. He is clear and fair and has so so so much knowledge to impart to willing students. Wish I could take this class every semester!

This class is hardcore! Yes, it is an English class so definitely a lot of reading required! Also reading journals for each reading assigned. If your lazy I wouldn't suggest you take this class. However, he is very helpful and conference hours saved me before it was too late. Scores papers on a 1-4 scale! 3 essays & 2 in class essays. Good Luck!

I really learn a lot from Pro. Perea.He grades fairly based on 5 areas: organization,integrating quotes,free grammatical errors,critical analysis, and arguable assignment.from the scale 0-4.in order to pass the class,you will need at least 2 for all of these outcomes. I really like the fact he tries to get everyone involved in class and he does his best to reach out to students. I really learned a lot from him and I feel like I am more than ready for the next English courses I have to take. Pay attention to the things he says because they are kind of like life lessons that you can apply to your own.

Pro. Perea is a great professor. If you do all the work you will pass the class. you have to make sure you understand the material that is being covered. he is a really nice teacher he likes to get the class involved in discussions. i highly recomend him! :) he makes it easy if you do your WORK!

It's been such a great pleasure learning from him. It doesn't matter if English is your strong suit or not because he makes sure you are pushing yourself at the right level. He's very inspiring. You'll learn a lot from him if you open your eyes and ears.

I don't understand why his easiness rating is so low! You write a first draft that you turn in, he grades it. You revise and turn it in again for the same amount of points. If you come to him during office hours he'll tell you exactly what to fix. English isn't a weak subject of mine, but it definitely wasn't hard to receive an A.

Prof. Perea is seriously awesome!! I recommend him to anyone, I actually looked forward to showing up to class, he inspired me in a lot of ways. The class wasn't hard at all, just your regular COLLEGE class.

I thoroughly enjoyed his class! Prof is very kind and helpful. He seems genuinely interested in material & teaching. Discussions are helpful for assignments. Take notes, read, and ask questions. Essays are turned in, graded, given back to you to revise, and then final copies are due. He will help you w/ your writing if you ask. Take him!

Super easy in the classroom. He talks a lot and wants to get involved with the class. He doesn't assign much homework and explains things plenty. Dresses very casual and is relatively cool.

Great professor but goes waaay in depth of the literature. which is what critical thinking english is all about. very hard grader! expects nothing but the best of your paper. never miss a class session and always take notes. 4 essays total, 5 paragraphs in precise detail, and rent the books in the library saves a lot of $!!

A great professor. The material is a little difficult but the lectures are structured in a way to inspire the thought process required to do. You have to want to explain the "why" of the "why" in your own perspective. Use his office hours to help with the assigned essays, the one on one time is an incredible advantage.

The assignment and coursework is practically going to take up all your time. If you work or have few classes, this class will be owerwhelming you. For all those students who only took this class and had no other responsibilities did well in class. Lots of printing involved and after the third week courses overlap one another.

He is such a wonderful person. Very caring and helpful. He makes sure that his students understand what he is asking for before they leave his class. If you have any problem he is there to help. You need to take his class, you will not regret it. One of my favorite professors I must say. Good luck everyone.

Take this teacher, he literately gives you helpful tips on writing the essays he assigns and gives you hints on what the midterm essay and final essay will be about(: The homework is not difficult you just have to read what he assigns and you will do fine. He is willing to help you with any questions you have. the class subjects are interesting.

He is really helpful with questions, makes you feel comfortable in class, gives great feedback and provides a really great atmosphere for creation and exploration in different writing styles. I learned a lot and enjoyed the reading very much!

Fantastic professor. Genuinely a nice person, and he has great insight with writing. Very personable and caring of his students. He is as honest and helpful as he is gentle in his feedback when he reads student work. I don't recommend professors, but he is one I told a friend who is interested in writing about.

Professor Perea was one of THE best professors I've ever had! He is genuine and fair. He speaks clearly and gives his students good feedback on papers. If you ask him how you can improve your paper before handing it in he'll break it down easily so you can hand in an AB paper. I enjoyed his class and recommend him highly!

He is truly one of the most inspiring teachers I've met. He does require you to read the text and show up to class prepared. But, it's not going to be a difficult class. Perea really wants you to succeed and will do his best to help you along. He's very personable and very understanding if you are struggling with anything.

This was a summer school class that was very fast paced. Attendance was important because Professor Perea gave us homework every day. If you like to write and research, then this is the class for you. He was also available after class to help you with any assignment problems.

Although the textbook we used wasn't my favorite, I did really enjoy this class. Very nice professor who really reads and gets to know your stories. Also, if you love to write and have trouble finishing works, the deadlines really help. I suggest taking this fun and easy, but helpful class.

To be honest, this class is pretty difficult to get an A. However, if you strongly want to get your writing skills improved, this class is for you. Professor Perea's class is methodically organized. Professor Perea mustbe one of the toughest graders that I've had at PCC. His class deals with difficult materials on the whole and not to mention, requires students to submit so many papers. Also, he holds a very rigorous standard. But, clearly, his teaching method is awesome.

He is a good prof. He is caring and open-minded to give help. BUT he is not an easy grader.

Although this class was the most difficult and demanding, I am satisfied to learn a lot from him. Getting a good grade is not what you factor in? Then, you are recommonded to take this class :)

Mr. Perea is an excellent teacher! I myself struggled in his class, but I did my best and asked a lot of questions whenever I'm confused about something. In the end, I felt very accomplished as I was able to learn a lot of things from him. As long as you do your best and all the assignments, everything else will come smoothly.

Firstly, he grades attendance and participation. Make sure that you're on time, go to class and participate in the lectures. The class is not hard as long as you try your best. Prof. Perea must be one of the best professors at PCC. He has a very systematic curriculum inducive to bolster students' writing skills. Reading materials were really really intriguing! Only some of them were kind of hard, but doable. In addition, there was no a lot of assignments. The only important thing is that you should not skip any class.

He made my first semester in college extremely easy and fun. He can be a tough grader at times but he gives really good feedback and plenty of opportunities to get a high grade. If you are here to learn how to write good essays then you should take him. But if you are very bad at writing essays and just want a good grade then don't take him. I really loved the topics he discusses during the class and is very helpful. He is very understanding. Go to his office hours if you are struggling since he will help you a lot.

Read the informational and instructional pages because they actually help while writing the papers. Take advantage of the feedback when turning in the rough drafts. If you ever need clarification, go to his office hours because he is helpful. He is actually a very understanding teacher. I am glad I had him during my first semester.

Reading material = my favorite now. 8-week class = lots of work. Doable if you make it priority! I realized towards the end that Professor Manny provided great feedback on essays! I messed up & assumed my papers did not have any feedback/comments(click on the view feedback link!) My grade suffered because of this mistake. Would def take again! =)

a lot of reading and consisted of 5 essays. first draft for essays are submitted and he provides good feedback. rewrite the essays based on his feedback. he is a tough grader tho but i've received 100%s on some essays. it's english class, literally just read and follow the instructions. he's very supportive and always available via email.

Took his online summer course. Def rec if u have prior essay experience. If not, this class may be hard for u. But he has good feedback, and if u follow what he's asking for it's possible to get 100% on an essay. Responds to emails quick and is supportive. Let's u make up one major assignment and was lenient with late work if it was within 2 days

Take this class, Professor Perea is great! He provides great feedback and grades fairly. Follow/read lectures fully and you will do just fine! If Prof Perea sees your effort he is more than fair with your grade! I would take him again!!!

Professor Perea was so kind to me. He kept giving me second chances and encouraged me to think bigger and how I could improve or fix my essays he's a WONDERFUL professor!

there are only four essays in the class i think the reviews are so dramatic. they make up most of your grade so if you arent good at essays dont take his class. there are def easier professors out there but if you want to actually learn and not be a bum i recommend his class. he is an easy grader and will help you succeed if you reach out.
