Anatomy is a difficult class to begin with, but she changed almost everything to make the class doable if you're willing to put in the time. She's extremely helpful and is fair when it comes to tests. Had her for both lab and lecture and she made it fun but you can't slack in the class. Be prepared for a tough class but with an incredible prof
Dr. G was awesome! She made coming to an 8 am lecture bearable. It's a tough class but if you go to her office hours, she'll help you find what your perfect study method is. Don't slack and it will be a super fun and interesting class.
The class is tough. Dr G just reads her slides during class, so I think it's a waste of time going, but since we have daily quizzes, I had to. Anatomy is just A LOT of memorization. She's the only one that teaches the class, so you don't really had another choice. Just study for anatomy every day of the semester. EVERY SINGLE DAY. AGAIN AND AGAIN
Dr. G is the greatest professor ever. She is clear & extremely fair. She makes anatomy such a positive experience. If you are willing to work hard, you will succeed. She has quizzes every lecture - which you will learn to appreciate since it keeps you constantly studying. She is always available and there to help everyone :)
Gardner is a great professor. Everything you need to know is on her PP. She's very fair. You have quizzes every lab and lectures but it's so helpful, and keeps you studying. Lab is fun, if you have the right instructor. 3 exams, 1 Final. Lots of quizzes. You have to study everyday but manage your time. Extra credit, do all of them! She's funny.
This class made me question my whole existence; that is how hard it is. I underestimated this class and that was my biggest mistake. Don't get me wrong, Gardner is an amazing professor. She is funny, approachable, and fair. All of the things any student want in a professor! But the workload for this class is EXTREME. Get ready to study EVERYDAY!
Very unclear and at times was very disorganized and hard to understand. I came to class every day and had a hard time getting through her slides since they were very confusing. Multiple choice was fine, but essays were difficult and the lab portion took up most of my time in studying rather than the class.
This class is intense, DO NOT underestimate it going in. You have to start really strong. Lab is a class in itself but manageable if you go to office hours. GOT TO OFFICE HOURS. Key to success. Gardner is awesome. She will teach you a lot. Best and most relevant class ever.
I loved gardner. She was very approachable, funny, quirky and knowledgable about anatomy. quizzes every lecture but 10 are collected, 8 dropped. Lab is like it's own class. 4 pt quiz every lab, 2 dropped. she posts lecture slides, all answers are on there but going to class clarified everything. OFFCIE HOURS are important
SHE'S PERFECT FOR ANATOMY AND PHYSIOLOGY! She is incredibly passionate about what she teaches and does what she can to make sure you understand. She makes an effort to make the class interesting. The course is heavy but if you just take notes on her PowerPoints and ask questions, her tests are doable.
Gardner is the most amazing, caring professor I have ever met. She is so passionate about the subject. Do not underestimate her class! you have to start and end strong all the way if you want an A.
Dr. Gardner is a great professor. She is not a dry lecturer and she truly engages her students. This class is a lot of information just because it IS anatomy. Her exams are very doable as long as you study the slides. The slides will literally be your salvation.
Had no idea how to teach physiology, tests were impossible and very confusing, expected us to memorize every single slide for tests. Have heard she's okay for anatomy, but definitely not for physiology
DON'T UNDERESTIMATE THIS CLASS. Try to study before school even starts. Lecture: AMAZING. She's funny & passionate; makes info interesting & understandable. lots to memorize Lab: Killed me. Did not like. class of its own. Lecture & lab didn't match. Material is not taught; quizzed on our own self-studying. Lab manuals never graded/corrected.
Lecture and lab are completely different; you'll feel as though you are taking two separate classes. Memorize every single thing on powerpoint slides for lecture exams, go to lab instructor's office hours for lab exams. It is a tough class, but so very interesting. You get what you give, don't underestimate it. Start off strong to end strong.
VERY HARD CLASS. It's basically self-learn for lab because of all the memorization. Lecture heavy and she loves to put students on the spot. Class should only be available if students have no life and only study 24/7. But she is a good professor, just anatomy is incredibly hard.
She incorporates a lot of physiology into the anatomy class, so if you had a bad physio prof be prepared. However, she really is a kind woman who wants all of her students to succeed. It's a crazy hard class but an A is definitely doable. Study your butt off everyday and you'll pass.
Dont underestimate this class. Lecture and lab will seem like 2 diff classes but it eventually correlates w each other towards the end. Make sure to attend lecture because she usually adds new stuff onto the lecture slides and listen out for animal related stuff because those are usually e.c. on the exam! Honestly just study & you'll do fine.
Lectures were interesting with her funny on-topic side stories. Lecture tests were very doable for an A by memorizing every slide (300+ slides/test). Go to lectures for extra info that she will test you on. Lab was self-learn & VERY difficult SMH. The practicums were pretty much impossible to get an A unless you put in days to prepare. STUDY HARD!
Dr. Gardner is one of the most supporting professors I've ever had. There is no bs in the class; you get the grade you worked for! For lectures: Memorize each slide and come to class because she might add more things. For lab: Study the models carefully and go to office hours to do well in the practicum! Study as much as you can to succeed.
Dr. Gardner can come off as an intimidating at first but really she's the nicest and most caring professor ever who wants you to succeed. Show up to lecture because she includes information not on the slides that will be included on the exam. Lab is something you have to study yourself, but if you study everyday you'll do well on the practicum.
Shes really good at making the class fun and relating the topics to her class. Its not her thats hard but the class itself since its a lot of information to take in. Id totally take her again. Dont skip class since she adds extra information aside from whats in the PowerPoints. Make sure you print out powerpoints & STUDY BEFORE NOT LAST MIN
Put on your big boy/girl pants cause you're in for a ride. Printing out lecture notes BEFORE is EXTREMELY IMPORTANT bc she adds on to her powerpoints. Form study groups and visit her during office hours for Q's. DO NOT PROCRASTINATE ON ANYTHING IN THE CLASS. YOU WILL FALL BEHIND. To pre-nursing kids, goodluck. Not getting an A won't kill you...
Helpful tips: Please try to go to all her lectures. She will tell you from time to time what to focus on. She tells you things in class that won't be on the original powerpoints. So please do yourself a favor and go to her lectures. Rewriting, condensing, and re-reading your notes every day will help you a bunch. And do your lab manuals asap!
The absolute best professor I have ever had in my life. You're gonna have to work for your grade. You can't just wing it. Don't be afraid of her. She is intimidating but if you connect with her and show her you are TRYING, it will make the class so much easier. Such an inspiring woman.
LOL hopefully I can pass 2nd time around
She seems like another strict and inflexible kind of professor, but that's not true. She really knows her stuff. She is always available after class to help students, and she genuinely wants all of her students to pass. She's very down-to-earth once you get to know her. I recommend her if you want to have a fun time and learn something new as well.
She seems fun and down to earth but dont let that fool you. Shes a strict teacher and is all about fairness. Talks about not having babies every single lecture. Skims through all the slides and makes you print out so much paper. Its hard to understand her because of her accent. Would not recommend but theres no choice.
Worst professor I have had. To me, she focuses more on physiology instead of anatomy. Everything is self learn since she does not teach during lecture and just simply passes through slides that we already have. Shes strict and is not generous enough with extra credit. She does not curve either.
This class is so challenging but rewarding. Dr. G is very encouraging & if you need help she is there. Warning: Lab is very hard. It is necessary to prepare way beforehand. It is a doable class but you have to work very hard for your grade. ATTEND LECTURE! Attendance is not mandatory but to succeed you need to show up. Don't fall behind. GOOD LUCK!
This class is what you make of it. it's very difficult because you're basically teaching yourself. She's willing to help you but you need to be specific in what you need help with. She tells you what's on the tests but the tests are still difficult. I've never studied for something more in my life and didn't pass by 1%. I'll be taking it again lol
Dr. Gardner talks too much about her personal life instead of teaching. She is moody and treats her students like they are in elementary school. Her rules and strict attitude are unnecessary. Dont let her positive messages fool you. She tells the class not to worry yet overwhelms the class with assignments, due dates, and difficult exams.
Had her for lab and lecture. Kinda scatterbrained. She knows lecture material better than lab material. She didn't know the answers to my questions in lab often. HOWEVER, she made every effort to find the answer online or in the book. Lab in my opinion was more challenging. DONT UNDERESTIMATE THIS CLASS. Memorize the powerpoints for lecture exams.
My roommate and I do not reccomend this class. Theres a lot of information for the tests. Lab is flipped with a weekly quiz including the first day of lab. Pretty much didnt have a life outside this class and still have to retake the class.
She spends half the lecture time talking about herself that she ends up rushing though the lecture. Lab is SUPER HARD! She always has to brag about how she made the anatomy program much better than it used to be. Lab manuals are useless to study from because all she does is take pictures from online and post it on there.
I would never ever take any other classes with her. She is a tough grader, the classes are pretty boring. Her exams are 3 different versions. She is not clear about the material in her exams. Worst pro ever!
i think Gardner is a great professor. She really wants you to succeed. People say shes a tough grader and that the material is hard but anatomy is a hard course. She tends to get off topic sometimes. Test can be difficult but everything is in the lecture slides. For lab, just stay organized and do it ahead of time. Color coding it helps a lot.
Gardner was an okay professor. She taught based on the slides and was difficult to understand because of her accent. She cares for her students a lot. Reading slides before and after lectures are important if you wanna pass. She adds more information on the powerpoint while lecturing. You won't pass this class if you don't put time and effort.
Anatomy was required for my major and it was the hardest class I had ever taken in my life. I barely passed the class the second time I took it after withdrawing the first time. However, Dr. Gardner is a great professor. She deeply cares about her students success and tries to help everyone succeed by providing lots of study materials. GOOD LUCK!
Took Dr. G a couple semesters ago but honestly, you'll get exactly what you put into this class. Anatomy is just a hard subject, but I felt Dr. G did her best to get the material across. Lecture was mostly physio based while labs was where the actual anatomy took place. Lab saved my grade and I barely made it out by the skin of my teeth. Good luck!
Her course is very challenging, but if you put in the work, you will do well and have a great appreciation and understanding of anatomy. If you are looking into taking this course, taking SI along with it helps so much! At first lab will be very very overwhelming, but once you figure out how to self study, it will get better.
She comes off as intimidating at first but she genuinely cares about her students. 3 midterms and 1 final, go to lectures, her lectures help tell you what she expects on her exams. This class is challenging so put in the work for an A.
Manuela Gardener is the professor you want to avoid at all costs especially for anatomy. In the beginning of the year she basically tells you that you're going to have to retake this class because SHE makes it so difficult. Take this class at a community don't waste your time taking at CSULB. Worst professor out there. she's so rude and helpless.
Lab and lecture are two different classes COMPLETELY so you have to make sure you understand that and do your studying as such. This prof pretty much only cares about her lecture material and rarely intervenes in the lab stuff but she is still a super super cool professor who is willing to help even if she comes off intimidating.
I took Dr Gardner two semesters ago but she remains to be my favorite professor. Yes, lecture and lab are two different classes that you need to study differently for, but I had her for both lecture and lab and she was very effective at teaching the course. She was very helpful and friendly. She cares for her students and wants you to pass.
Gardner really cares for her students. 3 exams, 1 final, online HW, and offers EC. Will only bump you 1-2 points (not %s) to the next letter grade. COME TO CLASS, she adds to her powerpoints. You will need to study a lot to get an A.
Anatomy is all about memorization. So for lecture, just study out of the lecture slides and you will be fine. For lab, it was like a completely different class, make sure you work hard to get the grade that you want in there. Office hours for lab is always helpful. Do well on the first 2 tests because the 3rd test is the hardest.
Study lecture notes for exams and take notes connecting concepts together is the key to getting an A in the class. DO NOT USE QUIZLET FOR LAB OR LECTURE IT DOES NOT HELP YOU IN MEMORIZING. Literally just memorize and easy A. Had her with the whole COVID-19 situation. Very understanding and very caring.
Worst experience ever. She treats the class like preschoolers, adds a lot of unnecessary rules, wastes class time talking about herself and showing off. Adds a lot to PPts. 3 tests and a final. Some EC. Online HW/quizzes and gives little time to compete them. She acts like she cares but don't be fooled. Made the experience very stressful.
Makes it seem like you won't pass at first, but lecture exams are not challenging at all if you memorize ppts. The only hard part is lab which is tons of memorization, but only 30% of grade and there is lots of EC. I am taking this class in the summer and online so it is probably harder than regular semesters. Prof is so nice caring and reasonable!
Gardner is one of the best professors I have ever experienced thus far. She is caring, understanding, and clear with what she expects. It may seem like a lot of work but create a schedule and you'll be just fine. Do not hesitate to reach out to her on any material. She is more than willing to assist you and just wants to see you succeed! Take her!
Dr. Gardner is a very straight-forward & caring professor. She'll always test based on what she teaches in lecture (powerpoints) and lab. There's no HW except a short practice quiz (unlimited tries) you submit b4 lab. Anatomy is a tough class in general, so do expect a lot of studying. Just do flashcards, repetition etc. and you'll do really well.
Have fun Ive taken anatomy/physio combo in the past and ended with a 98% And even the workload there (which was a ton!) isnt what she has you memorize Its great that her lectures dont match her labs :) So double the studying has to be done Woooohooooo
If the class is going to be online, she should be able to do better than give generic google images and offer to help us find structures before being quizzed on them
I was really scared on what grade I would receive since this was my first science class, but I did really good thanks to Dr. Gardner. The exams are LECTURE HEAVY! She may be a scatter brain and go off topic a lot but if you write down and remember the things she says for each slide on her lecture, you're all set for the exams.
She can be a nice person, but she is very full of herself. Gets off topic a lot and always talks about herself. Requires lockdown browser!! First two tests were easy, but the last test and final were extremely hard. She offers quite a bit of EC, but it isn't worth that much. I would recommend taking this at a community college.
For online class, the lecture exams are multiple choice and straight memorization from the slides. For lab, you get a lab manual every week that you learn and get quizzed on and the practicums test you on about 3-4 lab manuals. It's not an easy A but it's doable as long as you study. Dr. Gardner keeps lectures interesting w/ her stories.
Best prof ever! I was worried about this class bc of hearing how difficult physio is, but I did VERY well. Dr.G is amazing and very caring. Lots of EC, lecture heavy but tests are purely from ppts so master everything on the slides & youll be ok. Repetition is key :) Dont procrastinate! Never a dull moment with Dr.G & her stories during lec.
Dr. G is such a kind and spirited person, but her class was very difficult. We had like 28 minutes for 60 question tests and had to use Proctorio (which I wouldn't have minded but she would think you were cheating if you looked to the side for even half a second). Overall I wouldn't take her class again but she is a very kind person despite that.
WORST PROF EVER! DO NOT TAKE HER! Her lectures are reading off her slides, sucks at keeping it professional. Thinks highly of herself and ALWAYS assumes students are cheating. Forces you to keep cameras on or you lose points. Uses lockdown browser. Gives you ONLY 30-45 sec a question! Does NOT care for her students & doesn't care if we fail.
Do not take this course. Professor Gardner has a fun personality but she does not trust her students and always accuses people of cheating. She rushes through lectures and does NOT teach in depth. Just reads off lecture slides and expects students to do the rest. Has proctored tests and you will get accused of cheating if u look away from screen.
This professor is terrible! She cant teach, all she does is read off her slides and explains things to the bare minimum. She has a strong accent so her English skills are terrible which explains why she cant teach. Uses proctorio and accuses student of cheating, which just shows she doesnt trust her students. Take anyone but her!
Do not take her !! She would only give us 35 minutes for 42 question tests. As well as this after tests should would send emails blaming us for not studying because the test averages were Ds, and would remind us that she absolutely would not curve or round up grades. She also constantly accused us of cheating. Take this class at cc.
This review is for her bio 342 physio class, not her anatomy one. Dr G. is an awesome professor who really cares about her students. She makes it very clear what you need to study. literally MEMORIZE her PowerPoints and you will get an A. She has homework and quizzes and gives a ton of EC. you only get like 25-30 mins on exams but its all memory q.
Do NOT take her. She is completely non-understanding when it comes to online school. Her lectures are beyond boring and she doesn't give us study guides for tests, and the homework requires answering over 100 questions every week. Also gave us 30 minutes to complete our 45 question exam.
Worst class and the worst professor ever. Its an online class and she is not understanding whatsoever. Not helpful when it comes to tech issues, she will literally tell u to buy a new computer. I missed a practicum and told her I had a power outage so my alarm couldnt wake me up, she told me I shouldve had MULTIPLE DEVICES with MULTIPLE ALARMS
Idk whats going on w/ anatomy but her Phsyio class was amazing! Memorize her lectures & youre good. She requires camera on for lectures&HW is timed. Exams are proctored but easy. She also holds these late night review sessions that are super helpful& she always gives EC and HWs that bump your score! She is strict about the tech stuff tho :/
Dr. G is literally the sweetest professor, and she cares about her students so much! She gives a lot of mental rest days and gives late night office hours to ensure her students' success. Her exams are HEAVILY based on her lectures and slides, which isn't hard if you read the lecs. Overall, I'm really glad I took her as my physio and anatomy prof!
Nice person but brutal about tech issues. u can get an A on the exams if u MEMORIZE LEC SLIDES!! take at least a week to study. gives out lots of EC but worth very few pts. lab is v tedious ; hv to fill the manuals out urself before lab, take a prelab quiz, n then she teaches material AFTER you've already learned it :/
Memorize everything on the lab manuals and lecture slides and you'll get an A. The material isn't too complicated but it takes a long time to memorize. Gardner is a decent lecturer but isn't understanding about wifi issues. She gives out a decent amount of extra credit.
Don't procrastinate on studying, memorize lectures and you'll be fine. Not the best lecturer I learned everything by myself or in SI. Nice person but not the best professor. Not understanding about tech issues. Lots of EC on exams. Lab is a beast but not worth much, don't neglect it though. Gets distracted a lot by animals
DO NOTTTTTT TAKE GARDNER. I promise you will not do good even if you study your ass off. She has ABSOLUTELY NO REMORSE FOR TECH ISSUES. Your computer crashes? Oop Gardner will tell you to buy a new. You wake up late and miss exam? Dont even bother emailing her or she will scorn you for being a useless human being and waking up late. STAY AWAAAAYYY
don't take this prof online. I got recommended this prof over perlman by so many students, but it was an awful decision. she goes through her lectures PowerPoints so fast and doesn't even post them as they are updated in lecture. lab is only worth 30% of grade and takes up SO much time. take another prof forsure. first time ever not passing a class
Attendance necessary on zoom (camera has to be on or she doesnt count you). Exams are pure memorization from notes! Exams are proctored (camera + lockdown browser) HW is timed but not proctored, she gives a lot of EC tho! Very nice but record ur own lecture (she talks fast)cause she doesnt post her recordings to ensure ppl come to lecture.
This prof is very easy compared to other CSULB Physiology professors. Tests are fast and to the point. Lectures do not go into details, only some basic information. I didn't study much, most of the information I knew already from my other bio classes. Taking lab with her in summer! She's cool, take her! Easy A!
Professor Gardner is fun, enthusiastic, and cares a lot about her students success and wellbeing. She explains things well. You don't have to turn in much work other than quizzes, but physiology is hard, you will need to spend a lot of time practicing and repeating information. Her tests are multiple choice and she tests you on the big concepts.
Dr. Gs anatomy is extremely tough online but a good grade is possible. Do every extra credit, each point matters. Pay attention to detail. Memorize the slides for exams. She can be a little unorganized and unforgiving for tech issues, but is a good person.
THIS IS THE WORST PROFESSOR EVER!!!! I tried so hard and studied so hard and failed every exam. her extra credit is worth 2 points y'all... A slap in the face lol. I would say avoid her at all costs. I will never forget how horrible she is at lecturing and I could never understand what she was saying.
Really enjoyed her class. 3 homework assignment every week/every other week which basically helped u study for exams. Lecture heavy exams, pay attention and write down EVERYTHING! As long as you actually study and try u'll be fine. Lost of extra credit on and off exams. Super caring, tends to side track a lot but I recommend her if u want to learn
Ended with a 98% in the class. This class is demanding with how much time you have to put into it because there is a lab and lecture portion. Personally, I only spent 1-2 days before every lecture exam to study and achieve an A. As for Lab, I also averaged a High A on practicums b/c I'm built different. There's lots of EC, so a B is impossible. LOL
This class is not hard, but lots of time must be put into it. Extra credit accounts for about 5% of the overall grade, so there is many opportunities to make up lost credit. This course takes a lot of memorization (time commitment), but nothing is impossible. Just study diligently. It's possible to get above a 100%, just like I did. :) You can too!
The material itself is tough and there's a lot to memorize, but she made the class a lot easier to deal with. She gives a ridiculous amount of extra credit, so if you do your part, you should not have a hard time getting a good grade, let alone passing. She is one of the funniest and most caring teachers I've ever had, so definitely take her.
Anatomy is a beast, but Gardner made it way easier!! She lets you know what will be on the exams and offers lots of EC. Doing the homework/bonus assignments helps a lot! Definitely have to balance out the lecture and lab as they are completely separate, but it's doable. Gardner cares for every one of her students and truly wants us to pass!
Physio was amazing with Dr. Gardner! She offers lots of EC and lets you know what to expect on the exams. The only downside was the lab portions, because they did not link up with her lectures. Still 100% doable as I did it while taking Anatomy as well! Gardner cares about each of her students and wants us all to succeed! Highly recommend :))
Gardner gives off such a genuine caring vibe. She truly cares for the student's mental health, giving us mental health rest days. Honestly, as long as you memorize what's on the slides, you can get an A on the exam. She also offers A LOT of EC and make sure to show up bc on certain days she gives EC. Love her & definitely #3 fav teacher.
I severely overestimated how hard Anatomy and Physiology was going to be. Thus, the horrible grade. However, she is a very FAIR professor. As long as you listen to her course guidelines you will be fine. This class is the hardest class i have ever taken because it is a BEAST of a class. If you take studying seriously you will pass.
Anatomy is pretty rough but Dr. Gardner made it enjoyable, she makes jokes during class and adds them as extra credit on the exam. There are many extra credit opportunities. All of her exams are based on the lecture slides so study them!! Also pay attention to due dates for connect RAMs and learnsmart.
Best and funny professor! She is really kind and caring for her students. Anatomy and physio are beast classes but if you give your best, you will pass with an A. Study the slides, 3 exams, 1 final, and 3 practicums for the lab. Memorize!!! you need it to succeed in the class, she gives a lot of extra credits, sometimes she brings food to class lol
Y'all everyday I thought I was gonna fail but ended with an A... if it was possible for me, anyone can do it! If you ABSOLUTELY have to take 207 and 208 together do yourself a favor and do it both with Dr. Gardner, the contents overlap. Dr. G was really a G, so much extra credit, she is funny, and exams are purely lecture based. Get ready to study!
Dr Gardner is a great person and makes the class enjoyable, which is so important considering how much work this class is. The exams are basically just memorizing the slides, but there are so many, so be prepared to study a lot. She gives out a lot of EC so show up to lecture, and if you want an A I would recommend taking SI too.
Dr. Gardner is very passionate about what she teaches as well as her student happiness. She tests only on what is on the lecture slides, and offers lots of extra credit! Spend at least a week studying for exams though, they are worth 80% of the grade!
Personally wasn't a fan of Gardner. She ranted and kept getting off topic during lectures; also super strict with online exams. Kept saying it's easy but she's a professor and learned this for how long? LOL. Friendly tho if you needed to talk to her. Just didn't like the way she structured her classes and tried to cram things in her lectures.
An absolute sweetheart and so funny! The content is tough and the lectures are very heavy and very fast. Tests are only on the lectures so STUDY and SHOW UP TO EVERY CLASS! Very grateful to have had her as a teacher for a class like this. She makes it enjoyable and is always eager to answer questions. Best BIO207 teacher!
dr. g's a wonderful person and she really does care but the class isn't easy. MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A STUDY GROUP/PARTNER. offers a lot of extra credit, take advantage of that. do her SHARC's and make study guides w/ them, they rlly help w/ exams. has the tendency to overshare/go on tangents. brings her pets to class sometimes; they're delightful.
I took Dr.Gardner for both anatomy and physio. Physiology is a demanding course, lots of content and her classes reflect that. Manuela is very caring and invested in our learning but that definitely doesn't mean her classes are easy. She loves what she does and it shows. HW is online, tests require a lot of critical thinking. U must put in the work
Book & Homework online. 3 Exams & cumulative final. Exams are on anything from class including personal information about her life that has absolutely nothing to do with the material. The material is difficult & she does not help by wasting lecture time with non class material. She clearly has favorites & it shows. There is plenty of extra credit.
I took Dr. G for both anatomy and physio this semester. They are both very difficult and demanding classes, but I wouldn't want to take them with any other professor. She really cares about her students and wants everyone to do well. She gives extra credit opportunities and exams are based on the lecture slides. Put the work in and you'll succeed!
Loved this class & professor Gardner. She's super encouraging, approachable, & funny & she genuinely cares for her students. Exams are based strictly off lecture slides so it's not hard to study there's just a lot of content. Lecture is mandatory bc she adds stuff to her slides. Took her for anatomy & physio @ the same time & passed both w an A.
she's awesome! wouldn't want to take a class this hard with anyone else. go to office hours if you need, she's always willing to help. go to lecture every day!! you cannot skip this class. definitely a lot of work but if you memorize slides for lecture exams and go to lab office hours for practicums you'll be okay!! get ready to study a LOT though.
ALL you need to know is in the slides and she gives plenty of EC on exams. Very sweet and loves telling stories which really helps to break up any stress. That being said you will have to devote a lot of time into her class especially for anatomy lab. Easy A if you invest time. If you don't have the self-control then I suggest SI or study groups
I had Dr. Gardner for anatomy lab and she was super sweet & helpful. She was very helpful towards any questions students had. She truly wanted us to get the best grade possible. Anatomy practicums are difficult but your score depends on the time you put in studying. She gives extra credit on lab quizzes.
*note- I couldn't rate her for her OCC location for some reason* This rating is for BIOLA221 @ OCC. Prof Gardner is amazing. She's funny and makes lectures very interesting. She really wants you to succeed! She gives out decent amount of online homeowork and EXTRA credit for the entire class. As long as you study, you will pass!
Professor Gardner is great, exams are based on the lecture slides. She offers a lot of extra credit opportunities. As long as you study hard for lecture exams and practicums you'll do fine. Group study sessions or SI are very helpful.
Exams are based on lectures and SHARCs, YOU HAVE TO KNOW EVERY DETAIL in order to do well on the exam. I get anatomy is a difficult course, but you have to dedicate so much time memorizing EVERYTHING. She is also not clear on what the exam is going to focus on. She does offer extra credit which is helpful.
She is hard to follow and blames the students when the entire class flunks an exam, not the way she wrote the exam. The unfortunate part is the class has a lot of material and is difficult already, I studied, did the study guides, went to office hours, read the book and still had a hard time doing well on exams, which determine your entire grade.
Dr. Perlman is 100x a better professor than Manuela so take his class!! Manuela is not a good professor or person. She likes to go on power trips. Fair warning if you're going to taking her class.
There's a fair amount of homework which you can receive extra credit on. The exams on the other hand are so difficult and even if the class average is 40% she doesn't see anything wrong with the way she wrote the exam. The study don't do anything and you don't even learn the content it's just memorization.
gardner is funny and caring but her teaching is difficult. she skims through the slidse and it's hard to really learn anything in class. you would have to basically teach yourself at home which makes it harder. the tests are very difficult and they weigh heavily on your grade.
Her slides are super disorganized, random photos that don't matter are scattered around. She usually shares personal stories in between during her lectures. All her exams are Level 1 questions but still pretty hard. Go over her HW to prepare for exams and reading the textbook is pretty much better. Avgs are usually low Cs.
The slides are good but they lack info that she will add during class. The HW is timed and you get barely enough time to complete it. The exams are fair overall, nothing too bad. There is a quiz before each exam, but they are EC. She also offers 1 or 2 points of EC in each HW assignment. You have to put in the work, but it is doable.
AMAZING!! TAKE GARDNER!!! Exams are based on slides and homework contains LOTS OF EXTRA CREDIT! She goes quickly during her lectures sometimes but is open to answering stuff after class/during OH. 3 exams, 1 final. Put in the effort and it will be reflected. Other reviews complained b/c they probably did not study/did not do the EC.
In all honesty, Dr. Gardener is very nice and offers lots of extra credit but she does not teach. She just skims through her slides which makes it hard to grasp the material. Her exams are also specific but she does not go over all the specifics in lecture.
Gardner is funny/nice but sometimes she added extra pressure for no reason. Ex) No lab manuals if lab average was less than 70%. Some things not stressed enough for exams so studying is rough. Make study guides, friends, and be proactive for lab. It will make or break your grade if lecture isn't your strong suit. Easy extra credit for lecture tho!
Professor Gardner is super sweet! Her class was one of the hardest classes I have had to take at CSULB. The amount of work I put in for this class was no joke, but it really paid off. There is a lot of content to cover for tests, and I would recommend rewriting notes. She is super funny though, and she gives a lot of extra credit.
Lacks empathy for sick students
Although intimidating at first, she really is just a sweetheart who is extremely willing to help you learn!! I was really scared of taking the class, but her demeanor really made me LOVE anatomy. Exams are hard, so STUDY! Make friends. Trauma bond. A lot of EC, but do not slack off. I know many who have over 100% in her class so it's possible!!
If you want to pass anatomy with an A, do not take her. She makes it almost impossible. If there's a review to listen to its this one. Gardner does a terrible job at teaching, she doesn't teach. All she does in lecture is go on tangents & reads off the slides. The slides are not like the test. She does not prepare you. EC is irrelevant bc of tests
The class itself isn't too heavy. There is timed homework and quizzes on topics that are due on the weekends. A few extra credit points are on the homework and extra credit quizzes a week before exams. Lecture attendance wasn't mandatory, but she will have information on slides that aren't on the PDF in Canvas. You can easily get an A.
Nice professor overall. Slides and exams are a bit overwhelming because the little things truly matter. There was lots of extra credit but it somehow brings your grade down? Lots of assignments but it's just busy work tbh. Also gives us mental health days before exams!
Received B's on all the lab practicums and A's on the exams, except the final because I decided not to study, lol. The course is tough but manageable since she offers a lot of extra credit (over 10%). However, I recommend studying ahead of time and not procrastinating, as the exams are still challenging. Take her!
Professor Gardner's BIO208 class is challenging but manageable with dedication. The exams focus on lecture details, so taking thorough notes and using study aids like unstuckstudy can be really helpful. Overall, it's a tough course, but the extra credit opportunities make it worthwhile.
She was the worst person I interacted with. I went through several different medical procedures and hospitalizations and she offered absolutely no sympathy or leniency. I had several doctors excuses and she never let me make up any of the work I missed.
she reads directly from her lecture slides and does not explain any concepts. she does not care about your performance in the class. her course is very lecture based and the exams are very specific. you will have a weekly quiz in lab, but they're open note. the practicums you have to take in lab are really challenging. prepare to study.
Don't listen to her bad reviews!! She is a very encouraging professor and clearly loves what she teaches. The class is difficult but those who didn't do well just didn't put in the work. Study correctly and lock in during lectures, you will do just fine. I started the sem with a low grade but I learned how to properly study and ended with an A.
She is terrible, unkind and does not help with any questions especially when she sees multiple students struggling. She responded to an email with no more than a sentence and verbally yelled at me after accidentally taking my phone out to only put it in my pocket while leaving the classroom on our third lab.
Dr. Gardner is hands down the greatest professor I have ever taken. She is incredibly caring and understanding. Her class is rigorous but worth it. I've never learned more from a class. She is so passionate about what she does and that passion translates in her teaching. Please please take her class!
Dr. Gardner is the best professor ever. Please take her. Her anatomy class is hard but well worth it. She incredibly passionate about what she does and is very considerate. Extra credit goes insane in this class.
I'd describe her as a military sergeant. She cares but fierce. She wont hold your hand but will help you be prepared. Exams are all based on her lectures. Extra credit is given by McGrawl Hill but no curve. or things she says orally. 75% based on the exams and 25% on lab. Cant take pictures but can record lectures.
Had Dr. G for 207+208, very nice and funny! 208 is in fact a beast like she says. 3 exams, 3 practicums, 1 half cumulative/half non-cumulative final. You need to know her lecture slides front to back to ace exams. Same w/ lab manuals, always come prepared! Truly passionate abt what she teaches + wants her students to pass. EC goes crazy. Take her!
Had Dr.G for 207+208. 207 is easier than 208 b/c lab is simpler. Lecture material for both is similar. Still alot of content. 3 exams, 1 cumulative/non-culmulative final. WILL NOT ROUND. Does curves by EC on exams and MGH. Pls attend lecture, although it's mostly her reading slides, she adds extra info that is usually on exams. Do not slack!
exams are pretty easy and straightforward. they are based on her slides. just beware of endocrine system. its brutal.
First time getting a B in my life. she doesn't teach, just reads off the slides, so you have to learn everything on your own. exams are straightforward, not bad. the lab is what killed me. the lack of support and resources is wild. best grade I got on lab practicums was a C... you will not have a life when you take this class good luck :)
Gardner curves the class automaticlly so a 60% is a C. Human physiology is a difficult course, however, Gardner is a good professor. Her lectures are funny and interesting, she answers all questions, gives study guides. In order to pass you must study for exams, little homework and doesn't give many points, exams are make or break for this class.
Super kind and funny professor! There are a lot of extra credit opportunities on the HW assignments, so she's very stern about not bumping up grades last minute. The exams do require you to be present in lectures, and she does go on tangents that are also added into the exams. If you put in the effort and follow her directions, you will pass!
she is a good prof, doesnt really go into detail on topics just goes her her ppts, exams are lit just memorizing her slides and in class ec questions. lectures are a bit heavy on notes but its expected. super nice as well and encourges u, LOTS of ec!
this class is genuinely not bad at all..dont let them scare you. lecture exams are super easy and theres lots of extra credit. lab exams are harder but still doable. make sure to study muscles for lab like crazy tho
Great prof. She yaps a lot but sometimes her stories become extra credit. Not much homework besides lockdown quizzes with two attempts. Slides are clear but don't include everything so you should show up. Exams are all MCQ and not too hard if you study ahead. Lots of early extra credit.
If you want to take anatomy and get an A, don't take this professor. All she does is read through slides on her lecture. The lab practicums and lec exams affect your grade heavily. Lack of study resources is wild. My lab teacher was new and she really doesnt know what shes doing. Good luck.
Goat professor
Good professor but VERY strict. She sticks to her syllabus exactly so shes very clear about her expectations. I liked her a lot and she gives good ec but will not bend her rules for you. Definitely not an easy A but you can for sure get one if you put in the time.
Do not take this professor. I have studied hours and still cannot get a good enough grade. She overloads you on information and just reads off of slides the whole time.
Manuela is one of the best professors I've ever had and trust me I'm very honest and picky with all of mine. She is the absolute sweetest and most understanding person. She offers a bunch of extra credit. I failed one of my practicums but the extra credit saved my end grade. I recommend going to office hours, asking questions, and constant review.
The only way to pass this class is everyday review and practice of the lecture slides. Quizlets are my saving grace and active recall methods. All the lecture exams are based on lecture so get to know each slide from beginning to end. Many of my friends have failed due to lack of efficient study methods and dedicating time for studying. Good luck!
Great prof but don't recommend taking si classes bc lowkey waste of time. I can't emphasize this enough, GO TO OFFICE HOURS! Don't procrastinate at all and keep up with assignments. Anatomy is a hard class regardless of the professor. Honestly, lectures were cool bc of her stories and personal experiences.
