Dr. Manis: Is the worst professor I have ever had. I am suprised she still working at HCC. It is a shame that with all the complaints presented to the Dean she still allowed to teach.
She is not student friendly. During lab tests there are 30 second time limits which put to much pressure on students. Even if you remember the answer a few seconds later, you wont be allowed to answer it. Don't bother with this teacher.
Be prepared to work on your own - in the begining there was direction, but after the first test you are on your own in understanding and learning the material. If you need direction look for another professor.
The first day of class someone came to the door and realized they were in the wrong room. Dr. Manis hurried to the door and commented, "Oh darn I missed an opportunity to embarrass someone."
She's not a bad professor persay but she teaches her class with her lecture notes verbatum and that gets to be annoying since I came there to be taught and not be read to. I can read myself you know lady quite well infact...
Not very friendly. Wasn't very clear on the few assignments we had. The worst is that she was pretty confrontational and disrespectful to some students.
I have taken over 90 hrs worth of courses and received my first and only C in Manis' lab. Not approachable. Rude. Look for all fill in the blanks tests with obscure questions. She is a test anxiety master with her testing techniques.
Her tests are extremely difficult!!!!!!! Impossible!!!
Do not take! All test are fill in the blanks and it must be spelled right or it's wrong. You never know what will be on the test and then the Q's are vague. Be ready for high stress with her.
This professor makes a difficult class even more difficult with her refusal to provide any extra help and her attitude is appauling. She seems to carry a disdain for most of her students.
very unapproachable; seems to thrive on watching others fail. Very little patience and will take the most obscure route of questioning on the tests..nothing is ever clear; she seems to like it this way.
Ohhhhh! Don't bother! You'll get a heart attach!
she was unapproachable. All the tests are fill in the blanks and oral. Beware of her!She doesn't teach at all, she won't give you what's on the test either...you are on your own.!
You're out of your freakin' mind if you take her. Notice on the course schedules her classes are always the last ones to fill up. I wonder why HCC still allow her to teach students even though she's well-known for her WICKED **ckin' ways.
I think everyone else covered it. she's a real (fill in the blank)...
Very, very tough. You really have to know your stuff to get an A. She is very fair, however. It sucked, but I learned way more than I would have with somebody else.
Do not take Manis for Lecture, but for BSC 1086 LAB (not bsc1085L) it really is not that bad. You will get a quiz every class, but she drops the lowest one. All of the information is in the lab manual. You can get partial credit. But yes, she does pick some random questions.
The only thing you learn in this class is what you figure out on your own. Extremely unapproachable and thrives on people failing. A total of 5 people passing out of 35 that started at the beginning of the semester. A horrible experience.
1085L was hard but fair. Lecture was a different story. 36 students to start; 6 finished (1B, 5 low C's)... After giving up, I scored a 47 on an exam; I was told that I was "getting it", that some people score in the teens... Shouldn't this tell her something!?!
Wow, what a B**ch! PLEASE FIND YOURSELF A DIFFERENT PROFESSOR! Class isn't hard as long as you study your bottom off and expect the unexpected.

I must agree with everyone else on this one she does not teach anything and will not bend on her testing for anything. If your one who does not get things after reading them once or twice THEN do your self a favor and take another lab teacher.
She was horrible!!!! She didn't teach at all, she just sat behind her desk reading something. The first test I got a 34% because I had no idea what we were supposed to study, so when I took the class over with Ms. Ketchum at Ybor, I got a 97%.
biggest beotch ever! where is the TEACH in TEACHER here!?
I took her because their was no one left, I should have jumped from the roof of the building and it would have had the same effect as her personality. I liken her to a "Preying Manis". She has no people skills and I truly believes she relishes in the failures.
She's not easy and not very warm and fuzzy. You have to study, know your stuff, and not goof off around her. If you're focused in class you'll do good.

Shs I way to hard and not understanding, she is unhelpful and just sits at her desk!!!!!!!
Great teacher, but you have to know your stuff. She gets you ready for the harder classes. When people say that she grades tough and stuff, they aren't thinking about the fact that she's teaching for future nurses and I want only the best nurses working on me.
very tough
HORRIBLE I'm not a bad student, I maintained a 3.8 gpa before taking her class - got a D and had to take it again with Mr Bohm where I got an A in both class and lecture. HCC won't fire her because they make too much money off the students that have to retake the class she's evil!
She is very difficult. But her classes are difficult. Her classes are for serious students. Serious students won't have any trouble with her. I got a hard earned B.
All tests are fill in the blank, and spelling counts. She does not return tests, so you can't learn from your mistakes. 5 tests, no final. Course is PURE MEMORIZATION.
She is described as one word--Lazy. She doesn't not do anything but tell the class in the first 10 minutes what they should try to do and then she goes to sit in her desk. While the whole class stares at each other wondering WTF we should study. She is IMPOSSIBLE!Even if you study for hours its hard to pass. Her test are beyond hard--Not many pass!
When I would go to her to discuss an issue/problem I had with the material, she was not helpful at all. It was almost as if I was disturbing her. The only good thing I liked was you get a test every week in lab class. Tests are somewhat hard, but if you study and read over the lab manual again and again, you'll do fine.
She's a tough teacher but most in this field are. My only issue? She isn't the most approachable teacher I have had in my school career. I have spoken with her on several occasions and she kept interrupting me and then walked away before I was finished answering her question.(no it wasn't an arguement)
I loved anatomy before taking the class. However she seems to take things way too seriously and wasn't much help. You can tell that deep down she loves what she is doing. But she isn't making it easy on her students.
I had Manis lecture and lab a couple of years ago. I still remember and a lot of what she covered. She was definitely prep for the harder nursing classes. and when I really needed it-- she came through for me when she didn't have too. Goes without saying I worked really hard for the B in lecture and the A in lab.
She was one of the co-writers of the lab manual, so yu better know your stuff!!! She is amazing at explaining things though, she is a really good teacher. I learned so much in this class. So far, it was my favorite class. I had it over summer semester, so we had a quiz everytime which made you stay on top of studying, but that also means you ca
Great lab professor but lousy lectures. READ the book and material as her lecture notes are full of abreviations. The class is NOT easy in the first place so DON'T think taking her will make it easier. Read and study. Germroth is better in my opinion
We are talking about a woman who is miserable and wants her students to be to. She will not lift a finger to help you in any respect. She makes things as difficult as possible and has absolutely no sympathy for anyone.
i really like her
This is the worst professor. The other faculty and staff don't even like her. The only reason she is still around is because she has tenure. Avoid her classes at all cost.
Nice lady, but very hard class. She was very inflexible about my absences due to a car acciden, and I had to drop the class. Take Jacobson instead!
True, she's not extremely approachable, but she does know her stuff. And for the one who said she was lazy? It's a LAB! That means it's hands-on and YOUR responsibility. It's a lot of memorization so STUDY and you can do it! She can't make you memorize; you have to do it yourself. I would definitely take her again, she's actually very nice.
She isn't that bad. Slackers beware. If you don't plan on working or learning anything then avoid her class. If you want to take something away from this class then take it.
I was very intimidated before actually taking her class, but once I did, I was really relieved to know all the terrible things I heard about her were not true!!! Dr. Manis rocks!!!!
All tests are fill in the blank, spelling counts. For a one hour class you shouldn't have to memorize/study the entire lab book but thats what you have to do to make an "A" in this class. I'm a great student and had big problems, I'll be re-taking this with another professor. Horrible instructor. Find someone else and get an A.
Horrible teacher. Is degrading if you attempt to ask questions. Will test on things that she explicitely tells you will not be on the test. The Dean of Sciences response is that "she has tenure and there is nothing I can do". My advice is to find a different professor unless you want to receive a poor grade.
Dr. Manis's lab was very easy if you study hard. She is very clear with what you need to know on the tests. You will definately learn your A&P by the end of this lab. Got an A!
Fairly easy but boring. She writes everything she says on the board, and that's all she tests on. Go to class, take notes, study a little bit, and you'll probably get a good grade. No need to buy a book! Her paper was pretty easy as well. Just don't expect it to be an exciting class...it's a snoozer. You will learn some basic health info though. =)
Don't get me wrong, I think Dr. Manis is a great professor, but she had questions on the final that were not discussed in class in any format, including loose talk above and beyond the notes given. When questioned about this, she was very defensive and uncompromising. Every test but the final was very straight forward, curve ball at the end!
most boring class ever. Take notes EVERY day. Tests are very hard and she is really annoying. If you are a slacker DO NOT take this class. If you have no life and like to study nutition and drugs everyday then take this class.
She's tough and treats her students like bad children sometimes, but she's not that bad. I studied hard for the tests and made good grades. She's alright! :)
whatever u do, do not take her class. so far, i have taken 7 classes, and gotten A's in all but hers. ended up getting a C even though i studied more for her tests than any others. lectures the whole time and very very boring. tests are based on approx 4 or 5 chapters. no homework though.
(LAB) Her quizzes are hard. Make sure that u only study the material she stress in class. Cause u will waste your time studing the whole exercise. Students be warned THIS IS NOT AN EASY CLASS OR TEACHER!!!! And she only drops one quiz per semester. So don't mess up or miss on more than 1 quiz. You will be sorry. DON'T TAKE HER CLASS.
Did not enjoy her class. NOTES NOTES NOTES NOTES. Don't purchase the book.
If you have a choice, take another professor. She is not approachable and grades very unfairly. She's a pro at making students feel stupid. A&P is very important for the health majors to learn, but you can fully understand a concept and still get a "C" or less on her quizzes. I don't care how well you think you know A&P. She'll still fail you.
TURN BACK!!!!Do not take this class,
In this class she does expect alot out of you for being only 1 credit hour! She goes over the lab execise so fast that it's hard to understand what to do after. Then if you ask any questions or don't respond with right answers she mite treat you like a little child. I'm doing well in this class only because I study hard.
very hard
Dr. Manis is a pretty good teacher(she knows her stuff), but her class is fairly hard. One good thing was she posted her notes online which made attending class very optional..she might change this policy. Overall, class was boring and textbook is not necessary unless you dont understand the material.
SHE IS NOT WORTH YOUR TIME OR MONEY. NICE PERSON~ BUT NOT RECOMMENDED TO ENROLL IN HER CLASS!
Had her for A&P Lab - This class is not easy, but she does tell you what will be on the test, and grading system is fairer than most.If you study, you can get an A
I had her for lab last semester. She's pretty clear on what is on the test. She basically tells you what you need to know and study. Tests are fill in the blank. So study the terms! Answered questions in a very mean way. She acted like I was completely stupid. treated other students like that too. Average prof overall. take only if you MUST.
First of all I am pre-med student with a 4.0, and she has to the WORST prof. ever. I had to basically kill myself to receive an A in this 1 credit lab. So some words of advice for you all please don not waste your time take any one else! She should not be teaching, for she makes everyone feel uncomfortable. BEWARE!!!
Very difficult, very stern. Impossible attendance restrictions. If you miss four classes you automatically fail.
PLEASE STUDENTS DONT TAKE THIS TEACHER SHE IS A BIG WASTE YOUR TIME. SHE ACT LIKE OTHERS ARE STUDENT, SHE GIVE VERY HARD TEST WHICH IT IT FILL IN THE BLANK. SHE DOESNT TEACH WELL AND SHE SEEM LIKE SHE DONT CARE. ITS HARD TO PASS HER CLASS. SHE THE WORST TEACHER I EVER HAD. IF YOU HAVE HER HURRY AND GET OUT AS SOON AS YOU CAN.
Have Dr. Manis for lect. & Lab. Not easy classes, but if you study her outline, attend class and read, you will do fine. Been out of school for 14 yrs & expect to make an "A" in both lect. & lab. If you need help, her office is open. Lots of extra credit for final. This class could be much harder. If your a serious student, you will appreciate her!
This lady knows what she is talking about. The class is hard, you will learn a lot, but it is very hard. She knows everything on the subject, which can make a class more difficult. You HAVE to study it's a lot of information, there just is no way of getting around it. If you want an easy "A" she is just not the teacher you want Tests from outline
I had Manis for 1085 Lab and recieved an A. I would definitely not say that it was an easy A, but her tests really aren't that bad if you study and memorize the material. The class material is what it is and if you can't memorize what you need to know then you probably don't belong in an Anatomy class. She's tough but she's fair.
I had Ms. Manis for 1085Lab. She is very hard which I think it should be b/c this class is for people interested in a medical profession. As for her attitude, I don't agree with it. I believe she should act as a profesional that she says she is. For her class you pretty much have a know how to spell everything and memorize every single thing.
Fast pace and alot of studing.
very inconsiderate.Too hard to be a teacher. very strict and suck. Stereo type kind of teacher. And that is why most student do not like to go for her class except if they have no other choice. She is always in the category of last for for student in choosing teachers and classes.
Let's put it this way. You have to get a 70% or higher on your Gordon rule paper, and she gave me a 69%. Totally wacko!
She's great! All you have to do is study and memorize. Everyone complaining about the grades they made or all the "horrible" studying are a bunch of cry babies. Grow up! It's college, and you do have to study. I memorized and got an A. It's that simple!!
Terrible! Had a substitute professor for a day and got to see how a REAL professor teaches. Completely dissapointing. She doesnt teach she just relies on the text to get you through the class. Most professors go through the information and make sure it is understood...she doesnt. when a student asks a question she makes them feel stupid for asking.
Holy hell...I just got my first D. Terrible teacher. Hard to study for the tests. Broad question. Not recommended.
This teacher was aweful, she knows a lot but does not know how to teach it, she is very rude and does not follow her own rules DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS
Took her for BSC 1086 lab she explains the labs very clearly and lets you know what you need to study for your quizzes. Total of 13 quizzes which is enough to make a decent grade. Overall she is a good teacher
Please do not take this professor if you need an A, cause you will not get it. She demands respect but does not give it in return.
You will notice most of the people posting negative comments down have very good spelling or grammar. You WILL have to study in this class, but that should be no surprise (you are in college after all). She give study guides for ever chapter, you don't really need book. Study the guides and it is pretty easy.
I'm not sure why there are so many negative comments. She is very clear in her lectures, she has mastered the subject and even provides outlines for every chapter. She has a great personality and her class is very interesting. I strongly suggest this teacher. Her grading scale: D is a 60-64. Come on now. Awesome professor.
Don't buy the book and be prepared to be insulted. She baits you into a discussion only to disparage you in front of the class. Her tests are from HER NOTES. She discounts alot of the information in the book and is a know it all. Do yourself a favor and take this course elsewhere.
This class was a bit disappointing.Im working towards becoming a Nutritionist & I was excited to take this class.By the end I dreaded going.I wish she did more than read the notes during class. It made it boring. If you aren't good w/ memorization I don't recommend. No flexibility w/ tests & she admits final is impossible to ace.So so Prof/nice person
On the first day of class i thought it was going to be smooth sailing. But it was quite the opposite. I always thought of myself as a decent test taker/studier. But i could not manage to get above a C on her tests. (And that was after studying for the whole weekend and re-writing her notes) It is the worlds most boring class. impossible..
Run for your lives! She is the WORST instructor at HCC, and that's saying a lot. Vague, cold, and incomprehensible. She doesn't care if you pass or not. Get someone else if you can.
I don't recommend!I have done nothing but study all day everyday for her exams. No matter how much I study, I can't get above a C on her exams!I asked her for help and she told me to just memorize and she didn't care about anything else. She provides outlines but they only make sense if you read the book.If looking for a good grade, do not take her
She's definitely tough - studying is a must. She really knows her stuff. I feel grateful to be getting my education from such a knowledgeable professional. I got a C on the first test, an A on the second, and a B on the third. You get the grade that you earn - nothing is given to you like other professors!
DON'T DO IT....THERE ARE OTHER PROFESSORS.....SHE WILL TRICK YOU ON HER TESTS!!
I took Dr. Manis for A&P II Lab (BSC 1086L) and I loved her!!! If you really want to learn and be great your future medical field, take her! A&P in the first place is not an easy class. You need to work your behind and do a lot of reading and studying to get an A. I wish I took her for Lecture. I do not understand the other negative comments, sorry
Dr. Manis is a very good teacher, and A&P I lab was very straight-forward. She can be a little long-winded, but she tells you everything you need to know for her exams. The people that are complaining are those that didn't study- you won't be able to glance at the material and expect to pass her exams- her questions can be very specific.
For a science class that is supposedly easy, she makes it hard. The good thing is that there are only 4 tests, but the bad thing is that each one of those test you will have to devote a lot of studying time in order to pass. All the material is memorization and blends all to much together.
I've never been the type of student who studies constantly, and I have a horrible tendency to procrastinate. I took A&P lab with her, and she was by far my favorite teacher. She lets you know it wont be easy, and that the class will involve tons of memorization. So if you just study from time to time within the week, the tests are easy. Loved her!!
AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE!! Manis is a very mean lady and is very unclear on what to be prepared for her tests. She insults you in front of the class for asking questions and makes you feel bad. If you want to pass this class, you must devote any spare time you have studying every part of the material in the lab manual bc she tricks you on her exams.
She gives a packet of info and thinks one can remember EVERYTHING on it for the test. No study guide, no compassion.
I will be taking her class again in the summer. I love the way she test it is all memorization that's it. I failed this class before and passed it with her.
The tests are easy. You do need to know all the material in the book, but she doesn't really ask hard questions. If you just study a bit it's easy. But, she pretty much just sets you on your own with your book to learn it. If you expect her to do anything else, she is not happy about it. She is very matter-of-fact and strict. Attendance vital.
Her tests are very hard, her classes are boring. She gives you 4 review packets about 8 pages long each, anything on those sheets could be on the test. There is no reason to go to class unelss its a test day because her lectures just read from those packets. Spend your time memorizing everything on the packets if you need to taker her.
Worst class I have ever taken. Terrible time...when you ask questions, she shoots you down "well, you should know this, duh!". She reads her outline as her lecture and doesn't help those that don't understand it.
Be prepared to read! If you can make it throught this class, you can make it through nursing. I actually liked her class but expect to work for your grade. Read, read, read!!
Dr Manis is a great professor. She is very clear about the material and what to expect on the exams. If you study, you will do well in her class.
I took A&P I & II while I was pregnant in 2007 w her. She is straightforward about what she expects from you as an adult. They are hard classes; a lot of bones and muscles to remember. If you are in her class, it's because you need it. For all those that whine about her class, I'd hate to be under your care medically. She's great, a lovely lady.
Professor Manis isn't the easiest or the hardest teacher. The material is difficult but she does give a lab manual with all the material needed. It seems that she hates all students and is constantly being nasty. If you ask a question she will make you feel stupid 100% of the time. Other than her rude attitude, she is a decent professor.
She's not the worst teacher I've had but she's far from the best either. You use the lab manual for everything in the course. And if you're struggling to make the grade you need don't expect any help from her. You're on your own.
He goes off topic, makes things too technical. Her study guides are uselesss. You have to teach yourself the chapters. Her speech is monotone and annoying. She has a snappy reply to all questions.
class attendance not mandatory, her tests are very hard. She says for you to study off the outlines she gives for each chapter, but even then, it is still hard, do not recommend this teacher. You will have to learn on your own. AVOIDDDDDD
This instructor does not appear to be approachable. It is clear that she is knowledgeable in the field however her delivery methods left students confused.
Ms. Manis doesn't enjoy teaching.I invested a lot time on this class and got a B. The tests are really hard and there is no extra credit. If you really have to take her class, overstudy the chapters. Spell the words correctly. Exams are filling in the blank and she asks the questions to the class. If you missed it, you can't go back. GOOD LUCK!
THE WORST TEACHER EVER!!Quizes are given out loud, no word bank, no multiple choice AND she takes off for spelling. Is unwilling to work with students actually she hates students. And if you ask a question she will not only rip your head off but somehow will find a way to make you feel stupid as well. Let me say one more time THE WORST TEACHER EVER!
DO NOT TAKE!!!!! SHE REUNIED MY CHANCES OF GETTING INTO THE PROGREAM I NEED TO BECAUSE OF HER TEACHING!! SHE IS VERY RUDE AND ALWAYS TRIES TO PUT STUDENTS DOWN. SOMEBODY PLEASE FIRE THIS LADY
DO NOT TAKE! She took away my chances at nursing school and I'm a straight A student. I came on this website before the semester and read these reviews..and I didn't listen. All of the reviews are bad for a reason. It is IMPOSSIBLE to make an A. I seriously have cried all semester over this class- DO NOT TAKE HER
Professor Manis speaks to you like you are in kindergarten, however, she explains things thoroughly. She is approachable, but can act like any question is dumb. Overall she is a good teacher. She doesn't take off for spelling; you just have to spell it the way it sounds when you say it.
She is crystal clear on what she expects from her students. She gives a quiz out loud after each lecture, so if you are like me and can not process material right away, you are in danger for your extra credit. Attendance is a MUST! I do find her approachable, but as she tells you in the beginning of class, make an appointment to approach her abo
FOR THE LOVE OF GOD PLEASE WHATEVER YOU DO, DON'T ASK HER A QUESTION OR MAKE A SIMPLE MISTAKE. YOU WILL BE SHAMED LIKE A CHILD IN KINDERGARTEN.PLEASE TRY TO FIND A TEACHER THAT CARES ABOUT TEACHING, NOT ONE WHO THINKS SHE'S DR. HOUSE.
If you can follow simple directions you will do fine. Her tests are all verbal w/ no word bank. Once she moves on there is no going back, just make sure to tell her your still working on the question and she will wait. Just spend a couple hrs reading the text and an hour reciting anatomy from the slides and you will be fine. Sp cant change meang
I had her for lab only. No word bank, and tests are verbal. YOU WILL LEARN IN THIS CLASS! PREPARE TO STUDY FOR HOURS!
She is not that bad. not the easiest, and shes unclear but if you study and read over your manual, you can def pass with an A. I used to cram everything 2 hours before the quiz. Which btw there is a quiz every meeting, and I got a B. If you're taking nursing seriously, anyone can get an A.
She is not that bad. not the easiest, and shes unclear but if you study and read over your manual, you can def pass with an A. I used to cram everything 2 hours before the quiz. Which btw there is a quiz every meeting, and I got a B. If you're taking nursing seriously, anyone can get an A.
Overall, not that bad. She provides outline notes and test questions come from outline. She is a little unclear in class, but learn the outline and read the chapters, and you will pass with an A. For lab, very easy to get an A. Instead of tests, there is 1 quiz a week based on previous ex. She sends out review ?'s for each quiz too.
She is very thorough and lets you know exactly what she expects when it comes to lab assignments, tests, etc..You do need the lab manual. She also has a homepage where you can download exercises and study off of them for the test. Between the exercises, reading the lab manual, and using the disc to study for the test, you'll be fine.
If you intend to work in the healthcare field and are motivated to learn the material - she is an EXCELLENT professor: knowledgeable, thorough, and very good at helping students understand...but her classes ARE tough! My only criticism would be that she can sometimes come across as curt or impatient with her students.
I had her A&P lab 1 . HORRIBLE . Her test are extremely hard, she acts like she wont know whats going to be on the test. So the only way you'll pass this class is if you memorize the whole lab manual word for word , picture by picture.
Had her for the lab, and her grading system is absolutely ridiculous. She starts you off with a C, and you go up or down depending on what you write. If it's not EXACTLY what she wants, you're not getting an A. Need to know lab manual word for word. If you study A LOT you'll do fine. Quiz at the beginning of each class
Had her for A&P Lab and I begged to drop the class, but it was too late. Quiz at the beginning of EVERY class. Make sure you put word for word what is in the manual for quiz to get A. You are on your own. She mainly points ON the diagram and give you about 2 mins to tell her what it is if that much and she will NOT go back
She wrote the lab manual use for the course, so expect to know it word for word. She is not approachable and can be very condescending at times. You pretty much have to be a self learner. Her tests are hard bc they are all verbal, not multiple q's. She doesn't give you time to think. God forbid if you ask for more time. RUN! RUN!
Do the work, dont be lazy. Do what's necessary to pass the class. I found her to be a wonderful Professor and a great person.
I had her for lab..worst teacher ever! She was no help, just told you to look in the lab manual. If it's in the lab manual, its fair game for the test. She gave you three questions and picked 1 for a daily quiz. Tests were very hard. If you already know this stuff, fine. She does not teach!
she is not a bad teacher prepares you for the university which I find helpful. you need to study a lot though. overall she is not a bad teacher.
She wasn't that bad,5 tests and you can exchange one bad grade for your quiz average. quiz's every week, however she does give you 3 topics that she will chose from. Not and easy A but still possible.
Dr. Manis is definately a tough professor, but she let us use notes after the first test and it was a breeze from there! Although she can come off as a tad bit rude sometimes to some people. Just go to class, do the work, and you will pass her class.
Took Nutrition and Drugs with lecture lab over the summer. Each section was easy and the labs only easier. Come to class, pay attention and study the outlines for the tests.
She is a fabulous teacher and knows what you need to get through and have a successful medical career. She has a set schedule and structure. Her test material is on what is covered in class and doesn't bog students down with minute details. She wants you to understand. Best professor yet. But don't be lazy, or you will not do well in her class.
For our final, there were 50 questions that spanned 14 chapters. It was a hard test. As an educator, I would have focused on the basics for a test that covered 14 chapters and only had 50 questions. Too many in depth questions. I love anatomy but this was a hard test!
All the exams where verbal ,alot information to remember ,she will take points of for spelling, she would not explain the lab book ,you have to memorize every word from the lab book and and listen to all the questions she would say in all quiz and exams, and she will not help you learn you have to do everything by yourself she is hard
Anyone who says she's awful, clearly did not do the study guides that she gave us for the labs. Literally, we had a quiz every week, on the material from the week before, which she goes over and gives us a review for. And she drops your lowest 2 quiz grades. no final. Just go to lab, do her review, ace her class. You put in what you get out.
She is a tough teacher. The course is very intense and make sure you know how to spell everything. She did write the lab manuel and expects you to have it memorized as well. DONT TAKE HER CLASS INTHE SUMMER...
Unclear with her lecture. She will pick on you if you ask questions, and be ready for that. Her lectures is all over the place and using the examples that don't relevent to the materials. You are on your own and she will not help you. (even she act or said she will) Not a nice lady at all. Try not to register her class unless you want to fail.
very knowledgeable teacher, but do not know teach. The worst teacher you will get. Be ready to suffer for the entire semester. She is friends with the Dean for years, so once you register for this class there is no turning back. Unless you ONLY register for her class and nothing else for that semester.
Dr. Manis is a great professor. She clearly tells you what to expect on the exams as well as providing 3 quiz topics to study. Lowest exam grade gets dropped. She is very interested in seeing her students succeed. I thought she was wonderful.
DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS UNLESS YOU ARE READY TO FAIL !
This class should be easy. It's terrible. She gives up the most unorganized outlines and tells you to only study from this, and that you don't need to write anything else down. She yells at you if you do. Get the test? Half isn't even on the exam. Good luck, I'd recommend a different teacher. Terrible.
Terrible teacher to understand. Hybrid class and she was very mean in her emails when I asked for clarification.
When you are actually in the motion of this class it seems incredibly hard. I do not like science. You get 6 grades in this class, and your final grade is based on the top 4. I got 64s on my exams but my quiz average was a 99 because the quizzes are just 1 sentence using proper grammar, and I passed with a c. She counts her C grades as 65% and up
Im not writing this because I got an F in the class and blame her. I passed with a B but this class took extensive studying. She is very rude and impatient. Her tests are all fill in the blank so be ready to memorize the whole book. Doesnt teach at all just tells you what pages to know from the book. The worst professor ive ever had. Dont take her.
Tests and quizzes are given with her showing you a slide or pointing to a part of the body and you writing it down. There is no multiple choice tests in this class.
As a freshman in college, I'm telling you, DO NOT TAKE DR. MANIS! She's incredibly rude and unclear of exactly what she wants you to study. The semester is about 90% complete right now, and I have a 93% in the class. But do not be fooled. I had to work 10 times harder in this class than all my other 3 put together. It's an immense amount memory!
DO NOT TAKE HER! I am a straight A student . She makes you feel so stupid by degrading you and acts like you are a bother to her all the time. She tells you to ask questions but when you do, her reaction is annoyance to you. She should retire because she has lost all patience and passion for student learning.
She is not just rude to those who ask questions, she is rude on emails. I wanted to schedule an appointment with her about my grades. She said no. I was very polite to her and she throws it way off proportion. She is the reason why I question the health sciences department. She makes you feel stupid.
II would consider myself a very patient, open, compassionate person who can get along with anyone. This teacher however has the most negative passive aggressive energy ever. If you ask questions, she'll make you feel like a moron, her tests are very difficult and her outlines are so concise that they aren't even useful. I suggest Whitlock.
She really is not clear and all I hear from her is constant criticism. I am in honors society, I work hard, and I am definitely not stupid but that's how she treats me. I really do not like her condescending attitude
Absolutely poor attitude. Her syllabus, orientation/announcement & personal email conversations are always mucked up & rude. I have sent several emails to her in a professional manner & received negative feedback on every one, including discussions & comments on labs. She doesn't like to be proved wrong; is childish when questioned/asked to clarify
She was the worst teacher that I ever had in my entire life as a student. She couldnt bare when I told her, she had made a mistake about pages to study. She demotivated . She said not nice words to me when I went to her office to check on my Gordon rule paper to look up my errors. BAD TEACHER. She humilhantes you if you are second language.
She is not very helpful or clear when it comes to grading. If you send her emails for help, she will help very little and likely criticize your time management.
She was a good teacher she was super sarcastic but i found it humorous, others found it rude. Honestly its just a hard class and its ALL memorization for this lab. so just study and memorize what you need to know which she does tell you.
Just take someone else
I took Proff. Manis for BSC2085L. She has been the worst lab instructor ever. Forget having her teach you, she sets everything out and then lets you do it on your own. Half the class leaves after 1 hour while she grades mini quizzes. She had part in creating the textbook so any mistake you bring up about it she takes personal and is rude.
She is the absolute worst teacher I have ever had. Multiple times she won't include information in the lab manual (that she wrote) and will quiz/test you on it, citing that you should have known it because it was in a review packet, even though she constantly states that the only information you need is in the manual. Verbal quizzes, minimal help.
If I could give her a 0 as a rating I would. She is without a doubt the worst teacher I have ever had. Very rude, unhelpful, and sarcastic. If you ask her a question be prepared to have her basically tell you its in the manual and to look for it yourself, or to talk about something unrelated and then not actually answer you. TAKE SOMEONE ELSE!!!!
Hardest class ever. It was a hybrid class. What I found difficult about this class is that the day you go to class is for lab and she quizzes you for the lab you haven't even done! So naturally it's not going to be the hottest grade ever. And god forbid, you are late; you will miss the quiz and therefore have a zero. Tests are also extremely hard.
She is a terrible teacher. She tells you to ask questions, but then when the class would ask questions she would interrupt and make the person feel so silly they would never ask her another question. She is disrespectful and mean. I would never take her again. Most of my classmates failed her class or got a C.

good teacher, sarcastic not mean or rude. Quiz almost every other class, all memorization
Hybrid Class. Quiz each lab, do the pre-lab reading. Read the book chapters to do well on the online quizzes. Class is ALL quizzes, mid-term and final. Even if you are within 1% of next letter grade, nothing is offered to help you get to next grade. Class does not count as a LAB credit BTW. Not a bad teacher, just didn't enjoy the class much.
She made me cry. I asked her questions and she makes you feel stupid. I cant believe I am paying to take her class. Then she asked questions in a confusing manner, like referring to a "flap" when she meant valve. A valve does not flap, it only goes one way. Horrible teacher.
I took this teacher online, her class is fairly easy but she is an extremely unfair grader (will not let you explain anything ). I also agree with the others that even though I did not take her in person she has a rude personality even over emails. You can find a better teacher that is more understanding and it will save you a lot of stress.
This lady is tough. Her lab quizzes and exams are straight up memorization and fill in the blank. She'll show you a picture of a brain, hold up a bone on the projector, or something like that and have you identify it. She doesn't count off for misspelled words as long as you're phonetically correct. She can be snarky, but don't take it personal.
Toughest grader I've ever encountered in my educational life so far. I followed her lab instructions to detail and she would even tell me that I followed all the instructions but I would still end up with low B's. Not once did I get an A, even if I asked for her help before turning in a report, she would still find something she doesn't like.
Criticizes your spelling and yet her tests and word documents have A BUNCH of misspelled words. Wants documents in word document format, which is fine, but could you please use spell check as a teacher? It's hard to get a 6/6 on labs, but you can knock out tests easily. I'd recommend online, I'm not sure what the classroom setting is like.
Horrible professor. Do not recommend! Test are very difficult!!!! Definitely not an easy class at all!! Quiz every class, online quizzes due at the end of the semester, & 5 exams. Lowest test & 2 quizzes get dropped. She doesnt teach either.
She is hard on you but she lets you know what she wants from the start. you will learn alot from her.
Horrible teacher, terrible grader, very .... snarky, if that's the word. Best thing about the class was everything was out front and you had a chance to get ahead. Wouldn't dare take another class with her, online or traditional if I can help it. Grading was very inconsistent, and the lab projects... not home friendly. Don't take her.
She is fine but make sure you understand what is expected of her assignments if not you will not pass. All in all it wasn't a difficult class, I enjoyed the labs but I missed too many because the due dates were all over the place and I didn't understand some of her rules. She is a tough grader and has no mercy for late or missed assignments.
Don't do it! She gives you a quiz EVERY class in addition to the online ones and they are all VERBAL with pictures. She also gives 5 exams that are also verbal. No study guide, just tells you to read. All she does is test, no actual teaching.
She's kind and friendly, her lectures are a bit vague and you basically need to read the textbook on your own, she sometimes gives extra credit quizzes at the end of class and her tests are based on memorization.
Shes an overall ok teacher. She is very strict but youll do ok if you follow her grading criteria.
Horrible. I would not recommend her to anyone! She is super strict, incredibly rude. Ridiculous grader. Online reports are ridiculous. Will not be taking her again.
Okay so this professor is really tough to pass because she is a tough grader and will make you work for it. If your that student who likes a challenge, she is the professor for you. I think one of her weakest points is being very sarcastic when it comes to answering simple questions which could be challenging. Another thing, she is very impatient.
Dr. Mara is a busy, not as gleeful instructor, but I like her expertise very sternly.
Shes very rude and doesnt seem to care about you as a student. She is passionate about what she teaches but doesnt teach or explain well. Her quizzes are very hard and seems to try to confuse you by her wording. Dont take her.
Never again. All her tests are VERBAL and she doesn't let you ask questions or come back to a question. Extremely rude and gets easily annoying. Can be intimidating as well. This was just for her lab. Can't even imagine her lectures!
I feel like this professor has good intentions, but comes off as rude. I took her lab class online and every single time I emailed her a question I would get an unnecessary comment that is not needed. If you take her lab online be prepared to spend some money to buy lab materials, answer your own questions AND focus on timing for quizzes.
She has her own note outlines written out for every chapter but she will very often go off on a random tangent of information that isn't needed and then skip over the difficult/important information. She is nice but her style is not for everyone.
I will be honest the work is easy to accomplish without the book. she grades the labs hard as long as you read instructions carefully you should be fine. although this is a somewhat easy class I've never met a professor so mean if you don't care about unnecessary attitude then I say take the class
Manis knows her stuff but is often rude and condescending when you ask a question, even though she says she wants you to ask her something. Lots of reading and quizzes are due at the end of the term, which gives you plenty of time to work on them. Overall, a tough class and an okay professor, but you do learn the material if you apply yourself.
Long wordy lectures with required notes given by her. 5-6 page notes per chapter. Tests based on memorization of the notes, no reviews for final exam covering all content. Again, all you have is notes from the very beginning to the end of the semester. Answers all questions with questions and being sarcastic. Exams count as 75% of your class grade.
She isn't just sarcastic she is genuinely rude. In one instance urged us to ask q's when a student asked she belittled him and stressed how she already explained it and "it's not that hard". She responds to emails with attitude and is extremely passive aggressive fulltime. No reviews although she swears her outlines which are headlines of text are.
It is not that her class is hard, this lady is rude and doesn't help at all. You ask a question she gets sarcastic and expects for you to know everything. Take points off for every little thing and always say you did not understand the assignment. DO NOT recommend!
This has probably been the worst class I've ever taken at this school, due to Manis. The grade weights in the class don't make sense. She doesn't let you submit necessary assignments in late, missing one will drop your grade a letter. Can't forget how cruel she is to speak to in those awful discussion posts where you go back & forth. Stay away.
Beware! Very passive aggressive and acts like everything is extremely obvious. 20 question quiz? Only 10 minutes to complete. Will give you different diagrams on the quiz so you aren't familiar at all with what you're looking at. Will not reveal questions you missed so you can't fix answers. Hides your overall grade so you can't keep track. RUN!!
this professor is terrible, shes rude, condescending makes you feel stupid and will tell you you didnt understand the assignment if you got 1 thing wrong. takes points off assignments for stupid things. her outlines are garbage and no test reviews. dont waste your money.
At first, this teacher seemed fine, but once you get into the labs, you will see how passive aggressive she is. She definitely makes you feel somewhat dumb. She takes points off of labs for very trivial things. Even though people had troubles, there were no extra credit opportunities. It almost felt like she wanted us to fail.
You will have to do 5 lab reports which do not seem hard but do not worry she will find a way to take points away ;) 13 chapter quizzes, 3 attempts each but you get 1 minute per question and you can not go back to change your answer if you think you made a mistake, cannot see which ones you got wrong either. Final exam is hard, the 'review' sucks.
So many quizzes and you have to buy stuff for the labs. :(
Professor Manis has a vast knowledge in her field and is always willing to answer any questions. She give the opportunity to participate in class especially through questions. She encourage students to study in advance reading the book and give the guideline with the study guides.
This teacher called me names and was abusive.
I wish that I could give her less than a 1. She was very abusive and rude. She could not hide her racism and was very mean, degrading, and had no respect for any of her students. She doesn't teach the lesson. The class consists of all tests and quizzes. In the end, you can fail the class and she will tell you that you don't have the right to know.
This professor doesn't have any emotions at all. My father passed away and she did not give me the opportunity to make anything up. She wasn't remorseful at all. She constantly shamed students and was very mean. Stay away from her. Don't take her at all.
Please dont take her I learned the hard way! I wish I would have used this app before signing up for the class. She finds something to take points away from even if you do perfect and in the feedback shes been so passive aggressive. Wish I can go back in time and never take this class again.
Terrible. Worst professor at HCC
