My favorite professor at Iowa State!! He made class fun with various activities and class related tv clips. Weekly assigments were easy since they were about your own life and how it relates to class material covered that week. Marc made me actually want to come to class for a change. Great Professor!!
One of the only professors that actually cares about his students and how much they learn. The best professor I've had @ Iowa State, anyone would be luck to be in Professor Anderson's class.
One of the best teachers I have ever had...He uses many examples to help you understand the material?he uses different class activities to keep the class interesting...I have learned more in this class than any other class I have taken during my years of studies. I am now more confident and feel more prepared in becoming a manager. GREAT PROFESSOR!
Best professor. Actually teaches students rather than focus on research then lecture and let them learn on their own. His technique will ensure you learn way more than in any other class. A lot more weekly work but not hard. If you want to learn, this is the class. Plus, if you keep up, you will definitely do well.
Totally awesome class and professor, upbeat and always in a good mood! Very engaging, don't let the no textbook fool you! Learned a lot about myself and others also. I recommend Marc to anybody interested in becoming a better person and becoming more aware of their surroundings and actions.
One of the best professors I have had at Iowa State.
Solid teacher and solid class. The examples that he used were really helpful in learning the material. He has you write your name on the last page of any assignment you do, so he isn't judging your work before he reads it/grades it.
By far one of the best Teacher and class I've ever had at iowa state! A little bit of busy work but extremely easy if you put the little effort forward. Extremely easy and fun project at end of semester. Marc's class was by far the most fun one to go to!
I don't know if I just had bad luck with this guy but everyone in my class was attending class everyday and doing terrible on the 4.5 point tests. I did well on the application papers but it wasn't enough to keep me from failing the course, so I had to drop. I thought he was quite strange and graded very harshly. I would NOT recommend his class.
One of the better courses I have taken at ISU. If you expect to get by with minimal effort, Dr. Anderson is not for you. If you are willing to put in the work you will learn a lot from him. He requires a steady stream of work throughout the semester, but most of it is simple.
The commitment and dedication, Marc offers to his students, is overwhelmingly outstanding. The course material is challenging, but you can be rewarded with good marks, if you place a decent amount of effort in. Importantly he perfectly engage students in discussion, teaches in manner that is invitingly different, than the norm of text book teaching.
Marc is one of the best professors here at ISU. He really cares about teaching and tries to know each students individually. The weekly applications papers and quizzes can take some time to prepare for, but it's very doable. The class is very fun to attend and he definitely made it so by his joke of the day. Always has a big smile on his face.
Anderson is extremely helpful, there are NO exams, but the class will keep you busy. You have a weekly quiz, but he gives you all the questions & you have a one page reflection paper each week. This course material is very interesting, lots of video clips, fun activities, jokes each day, clear explanations. Wonderful class and a phenomenal prof.
Be prepared to work for your grade, but there is no final so it's worth it. Application papers and quizzes each week but they are manageable if you take the time to review class material.
He looks for very specific answers on the weekly quizzes, often times something small not included in the notes. Many of the answers to the quizzes are related to examples he gives in class. Doesn't offer much extra credit, so take advantage. Isn't very clear with what he's talking about, just kind of talks. Mediocre at best, not an easy A with him
Makes you work for your grade, but it's a rewarding class--he makes the material really interesting. You don't need a textbook and there's no final. However, there are weekly quizzes and papers, both of which he grades strictly. Gives extra credit periodically. There's a fun and fairly easy group project.
Very good and knowledgeable professor. Doesn't have tests but gives weekly quizzes and short papers. No book, so showing up to class is necessary. One of the best professors I've had at Iowa State.
No exams or final and you do not need a textbook. Weekly quizzes and papers. He makes the class really interesting and has been my favorite professor at ISU.
Marc makes class fun and interesting. There are weekly papers and quizzes. A really easy group project at the end of the semester. No tests or book. He gives you the quiz questions in advance and the powerpoint slides are posted after each class. Attendance is not mandatory but his lectures are fun to listen to and makes the quizzes easier to take.
Best professor I've ever had. Can be a tough grader, but fair and unbiased. A lot of unique concepts to learn. Does a great job demonstrating the material and applying real life examples. The clip project was fun, as he uses the best ones as examples in his future classes. No textbook, test (weekly quizzes), and no final are nice.
There are no exams at all. A quiz on monday (he gives you the questions over the weekend and picks 4 from a list of 10-12) and a one-page paper due on friday that comes with a prompt. There is no textbook, just show up and learn. Most topics are very interesting and can be applied to real life. He's also super into jokes and video clips. Easy A.
Super great guy. No text book or tests!! But, papers due every week as well as a fairly difficult weekly quiz. Know what's due when it is due and you'll be golden.
Dr. Anderson was one of my favorite professors from Iowa State. He treats his students like adults; tells you exactly what you need to do to succeed and then it's up to you to follow through. He puts a lot of effort into the class and it shows! You won't be disappointed with him!
The guy is a joke. Read's Dr. Seuss in class, shows irrelevant videos, does not honor his word, and wastes class time. His classes are a waste of time and money and quickly lost respect for him as a professor. How is this guy qualified to teach a graduate class? Students would laugh at him behind his back (likely his online dating stories).
If anyone has anything negative to say about him as a professional its probably because they're a bad student. I absolutely loved his class and actually learned and retained so much, I had to go tell him that and I never usually give teachers recognition, if I didn't graduate I'd take his masters class. Hes very knowledgeable and caring.
I took Management 371 with Marc and I couldn't have been happier with that choice. Hands down the best teacher I've had at Iowa State. He makes it very transparent what work is to be done, and his lectures are the most interesting I've ever sat through. Marc really focuses on teaching you things that are truly useful in life and in the work place.
There is a paper and a quiz almost every week, but if you show up to class the material is pretty easy to grasp. His lectures are intriguing and fun and you learn something interesting every single time. There are NO TESTS and NO TEXTBOOK. He does not require much reading and he is always available to answer questions or give help when needed.
Passionate and a great teacher. If you give minimal effort and show interest in the course you will succeed. So much applicable material.
Marc is an awesome guy. He really puts his all into making the course applicable to real life. The course was very informative and helpful content. Marc is very picky when grading. Everything has to be said just the right way.
Fantastic professor, interesting lectures. Regular quizzes and papers instead of large tests. Does a great job of teaching applicable and factual content. Would definitely recommend!
No big exams, a small quiz and paper every week. Most interesting presentation style of any class I've had so far, and I took a lot away from the class. Less work than other classes and you learn more!
There are a lot of papers, but luckily they are short one paged papers. There are no exams, only weekly quizzes. He can be a picky grader and doesn't give much feedback over why you missed points. Overall, it was a very interesting class!
By far the best mgmt prof I have had. His lectures are applicable to real life and i learned a ton. I wish I would have told him how great his class was.
I looked forward to attending his lectures everyday, he makes sure the lectures are interesting with relevant material. He even includes a joke of the day, and shows several movie clips from great films. There is no textbook or exams, but there are weekly quizzes and weekly application papers. By far my favorite course/professor at ISU.
Dr. Marc is unique, His classes are never boring. If you want to learn, take his courses. I learned a lot about personalities in management and their overall effect. I wish if I took all his courses in graduate school.
If you want to spend your weekend memorizing his quiz questions for Monday's quiz take him, if you have a life on the weekend skip him! He is EXTREMELY picky on how he wants the answers to be they basically have to be his word for word. Quizzes every Monday at the start of class and 1 page papers (that aren't given to until Wednesday) due Friday.
Marc is good at trying to make his lectures relevant or giving good examples. He tries to be funny by telling jokes of the day. The one page papers (every Friday) are easy, but if you don't follow the format to a T, he will dock you points. No exams, but the quizzes are a big chunk of your grade every Monday, & he is the pickiest grader which hurts
Marc doesnt allow technology in his classes. He is a very picky grader. On the quizzes he wants it his way, if you get credit for one part of a question, but didnt get the second part of the question right he will deduct points.
Ignore all of the negative reviews about Marc, because this guy puts his heart and soul into this class. Sure, he is a picky grader and makes you work for your grade. But that's HOW IT SHOULD BE. If you want to learn from a professor who knows his stuff, take Marc's class. If you want to slack off and be lazy, go elsewhere. He is one of the best.
Weekly quizzes and papers. He tells you he wants to quiz answers to be HIS way, so hes supper picky, but you have to figure out what he wants. Quizzes are 35% of your grade, its rough I wouldnt recommend taking it with him because of this structure.
Overall this was a fun course. Professor Anderson is a fantastic professor. There is a weekly quiz and a weekly 1 page paper over an assigned topic and those are a large sum of the grade but he gives you the questions for the quizzes and the topics for the paper. He makes the course fun and makes you think. I'd highly recommend Professor Anderson.
He is a good professor in management. He tried to make his lecture fun. He can make a good and clear explanation for course materials. But taking his classes, you have to do lots of work. Every week quizzes, application papers, and special assignments though you do have to take any exams. He is a little picky but he is fine
Professor Anderson is the best professor I have had in four years at Iowa State and his class was SO interesting! His grading was 100% fair - he gives you study guides every week and answers are pulled straight from slides. He enjoys humor in papers! Can not say enough great things about this class! Also, there are no tests! TAKE THIS CLASS!
Is not a great professor, acts like he cares about his students but doesn't. Is a really tough grader for no reason. His lectures are not enjoyable and wastes a lot of your time. Weird guy
This class should not be as hard as this professor makes it. He is so picky and will not give you a good grade unless it is the exact answer that he would've said. There is TONS of pointless homework that is basically just busy work to make up for the fact that there are no exams (which is the one and only positive). I suggest changing your prof.
Your grade is almost a gamble. You do these question sets (you basically get a 0 if you dont word it exactly how he would word it) and he also randomly selects the questions he answers so basically you just hope he grades the ones youre confident with! This dude grades like we are in grad school. I would HIGHLY suggest getting a different prof.
Lectures are boring. He grades incredibly hard and is beyond picky. The question sets are 36% of your grade and luckily for you theyre incredibly hard to get an 80% or better on so if you care about your GPA and grades then dont take it with this guy! Also, Ive learned absolutely nothing about management. This class is just psychology.
One of the worst profs I've ever had. Makes you do so much work for a class that doesn't mean anything in life.
Professor Anderson is not as bad as the recent posts suggest. Yes, he is a difficult grader when it comes to problem sets but those are essentially quizzes to the class. Every other assignment he is a more lenient grader and I've gotten A's on papers that took me 30-45 minutes to write. There is a good amount of work but it is manageable.
Really tough grader, will take 0.1 off an assignment for no major reasons
Is very exclusive in his teaching. He repeatedly lacked diversity in his lectures and took no responsibility for it. He acts as he cares about his students, but never does.
Initially I thought for sure I was going to give this prof a bad review because the grading was very tough and I didnt like how we had to hand write our quiz answers (entire pages worth). He truly cares about the course and that is why he is such a harsh grader. I learned quite a bit. Recommend if you like a challenge, pass otherwise.
Dr. Anderson was an amazing professor. Very knowledgeable and passionate about course topics. He always wanted to learn more and had great ways of applying concepts. No exams but the course has a lot of assignments. The assignments arent hard if you take good notes and stay on schedule. Lectures were always entertaining. Would 100% take again.
You will have a lot of homework, but if you pay attention and take good notes during lectures then you will be fine. There is a big group project at the end of the class, but no exams. He is very animated so lectures are interesting
Dr. Anderson was a great professor! He's amazing at explaining concepts and really cares about his students. I looked forward to going to his lectures, which doesn't happen to me in many classes. There's a lot of assignments/short papers, but they're not extremely difficult.
Professor Anderson is fantastic! I learned SO much from his class. He really teaches beneficial material that you will use in the real world. No tests/quizzes but he does do weekly assignments and short answer problems that you will have to work hard to receive a good grade. I highly recommend taking his class, he is a great professor!
This guy is great. Fun lectures, easy but challenging & rewarding assignments, all around terrific guy. One of the few classes that I genuinely looked forward to. Anderson enjoys the material and is happy to answer any questions. Also it's very possible to come from HSPM 385 buzzed af and still pass class sooooo... Just take the class, trust me.
No tests, only weekly quizzes, made lectures interesting and easier to pay attention to.
Professor Marc has very interesting lectures; he always made the class very interesting. However, I would say be prepared. Your grade will not just be handed to you; therefore, you must be willing to work hard. He is a very picky grader, but as long as you pay attention and study hard, you should be golden on the quizzes.
Marc was the best professor I have had at Iowa State. He is so committed to his course and life time learning. As long as you pay attention in class, you will get so much out of it, including a good grade. He gives clear instructions for the quizzes and if you pay attention, giving the correct answers on quizzes is not hard. I LOVED THIS CLASS!
There are 11 quizzes, 8 are dropped, answer 3/4 questions in 15min, and they are out of 6 points. You take a quiz every Monday and it takes about an hour to study for it. He gives you a list of 12ish possible questions and then picks 4 to put on the test. He does grade a bit hard but amazing professor and I have never loved attending class more
Funny and nice guy. You take weekly quizzes, however these quizzes were very benefical to my learning. He is a very picky grader but if you put in the effort, you will do good on quizzes and assignments. No final which is a plus.
I loved taking management 371 with Marc. He was a fantastic teacher who really cared about the individual learning of his students. His classes were super interesting and fun to go to, and he really gave you a lot of tools to be successful. This was one of my favorite classes at Iowa State.
Marc is the best professor at Iowa State University. He truly cares about his students and helping them learn. This class is fantastic with him and I looked forward to it everyday. The assignments aren't long and are easy if you are intelligent. TBH everyone here giving him a 1 just aren't smart enough to see the value in what he does. GOAT
Professor Marc Anderson is a great Professor, he sets up with all the tools that you need to succeed. Through his lecture slides and his examples, he did a great job explaining all of the concepts. If you put in the time and effort for the work and attend his classes, which are very enjoyable, you should have no problem.
Lectures are interesting but it's not even necessary to show up. NO FINAL and NO EXAMS which is great. The main portion of this grade is 13 weekly short-answer quizzes. Your performance on these basically determines your grade. He's a very tough grader on them so you need to study the exact answers to questions if you want an A.
Marc genuinely cares about his students and what they learn. Marc teaches material that matters in the real world and he makes the class fun by showing comics and movie clips. He is picky for the weekly quizzes but he gives you the questions before hand so if you prepare they are fairly easy. I would highly recommend Professor Anderson.
Marc is awesome and he presents the material in a really interesting way. I really loved this class and learned a lot from the lectures. If you show up to class and prepare for the quizzes, it shouldn't be bad. He is one of the most interesting professors I've ever had.
Professor Anderson was great! His lectures were entertaining as he often showed video clips that went along with the material. No exams or finals, so that was definitely a plus. 11 weekly quizzes, but only the top 8 are scored, and he gives you the questions beforehand. If you have to take MGMT371, take it with this guy.
The lectures were entertaining but there was 11 quizzes for the entire class that took up a good part of the grade. However having an easy group project instead of the final was nice though.
No exams but weekly quizzes with long quiz prep assignments. He is a tough grader, especially on the weekly quizzes. There was an easy group project at the end which was nice instead of a final. The lectures are good and very helpful for doing the weekly quiz prep but the quizzes are largely memorization, especially the list based questions.
No exams, but rather weekly quizzes that are essentially memorizing material taught in class. Attendance is taken and not many absences are dropped, so be wary of that. He also does quiz preps right before the quizzes, which are helpful, but choose your wording carefully because he will dock a lot of points for a small error. All in all, good guy.
Professor Anderson is really great! His lectures are interesting and his assignments/quizzes were pretty standard (no tests). Be sure to do the weekly quiz prep (the same short answer questions are on quizzes). He gave us a few papers (1 or 2 pages) and those were easy (pro tip: he prefers personal examples in papers). I highly recommend his class!
Great inspirational teacher who really cares about his students success.
I have ADHD and I can pay attention to this guy's lectures without taking my medication. Really good use of technology to help convey the information and reinforce understanding.
Greatest teacher I have ever had. Lectures were amazing and mandatory. There was a lot of quizzes, but you are informed of what will be on them before hand, your grade on them is largely dependent on the effort you put into preparing them. Absolutely recommend this class.
Great professor! Lectures were insightful, cares about his students. Weekly quizzes...he grades them tough, so make sure you know your stuff.
Weekly quizzes and quiz preparations graded pretty tough. Need to attend almost every class and be ready to listen in class during lectures
He had a quiz every Friday that was handwritten, and before that, you had to write the equivalent of a paper, and you had to take about 14 of these. To be fair, you did get around 4 drops, but even if you dropped the quiz, you had to still fill out the paper. Overall just an incredibly annoying class
This class is probably my favorite class I have taken so far. Engaging lectures, shows movie clips as examples and gets his message across clearly. I would highly recommend this course.
Overall great prefessor
One of the best professors I have ever came across. His lectures are very insightful, well prepared, and he teaches very well with passion. I have retained most of what he taught because of his style of teaching. His weekly quizzes are helpful and very doable. His short videos in class are great addition to learning.
Marc Anderson was one of the better instructors I have taken at Iowa State. While he is a stickler for grading with the quizzes, he was pretty fair. Lectures are extremely informative due to his use of clips to demonstrate concepts. Assuming there's inclement weather, do not expect him to cancel classes if the University does not.
He is a good teacher who has put together a unique set of material, but he grades INCREDIBLY hard. MGMT 3710 is suppose to be one of the easiest classes in the school of businesses, but it is really difficult with Marc. He assigns weekly study guides that take hours to complete that correspond with weekly quizzes which he grades intensely.
he is very passionate about teaching and making sure you know the material. it's a unique course structure designed to retain information. very many psychological concepts, but overall things you'll need to know to be successful in the workplace. if you want to half-ass schoolwork i wouldn't suggest.
Great professor, very passionate about what he teaches so its easy to pay attention in his classes. Attendance is mandatory and there are a lot of hand written assignments
If you want good grades, don't take this professor. He's an amazing teacher but the toughest grader ever. I won't recommend this professor to anyone. He's going to F your gpa up!!!
Professor Anderson made class very fun and engaging. He is a great guy and a great teacher.
