Marc is a good teacher. He helps explain stuff and tries to make the course as much fun as it can be. The problem is there are so many terms to memorize and so much info that it is very hard. Midterm and Final were very hard too. But I don't hold that against Marc, he was the best MKTG teacher when I took it in Fall06

It is true that MKTG is a lot of work, but unlike other mandatory courses (such as HROD, MGST, MGIS, OPMA, etc.)it is very relevant so i was happy to give the effort needed for a top grade. The guest speaker was wicked, a buddy of Marc's who's a young and dynamic personal seller. Marc was happy to answer Q's if you showed interest in the material.

I did very well in this class, and I still think Boivin is an arrogant dink. I actually changed my major because of the taint he put on marketing - did't want to turn out like that guy. He begs for student input, then belittles people when they give some. Midterm and Final were mostly out of textbook - pay attention to examples in class.

Marc is a good teacher, but this is a very hard class. He knows his stuff, but is not clear entirely on his expectations. I would have done MUCH better on the midterm if I knew it was MC, short answer, and the case. Too much emphasis is put on the case (though important). 30% of people failed the midterm, 59% was the avg. Beware, and do the work.

Students really need to listen to him. People complain that he is not clear about his expectations, however, if you do practice case studies, read the definitions from the text and go to class so that you know the cases for the exams- there is not a whole lot to figure out- and you'll do well.

I took this class in spring and it wasn't bad at all! Mark knows his stuff and most people just don't want to do the work to get the grade. suck it up buttercups.

I dont' know why people think he is that bad..in fact, I think he teaches great and knows his stuff veryvery well. Yes, mrkt is bound to be hard, but people are just complaining because the project wasn't too easy and thinks that he is a hard marker on the exams. But if you listen in class and do practices for case studies, you will do fine.

Everyone complains about Marc but when you actually talk to the guy its not all bad. Make sure that you see him if you have any questions. He's extremely clear in class and you can tell he's interested in what he's teaching. Just do the work and you'll do well in class.

I have no idea what people are talking about on here. I went into this course scared that he was some kind of monster but in reality he is VERY nice. The course is hard, yes, but the teacher is very good. Marc cares about what he is teaching and he is very helpful when you ask questions.

Marc is a very good prof if you are willing to do the work and go to class. The only reason people have a problem with him is because they are not willing to do the work themselves. Marc has respect for students who show up and want to learn. He requires you to be able to apply concepts not regurgitate. If you're enthusiastic he is too.

Expectations are clear if you GO TO CLASS and listen. Cases are the key to success and that is made clear also. People who complain about Marc are the people who don't put in time and effort. If he "belittles" during class discussions it is to play devil's advocate so you know how to formulate and justify a point which is needed for exams.

Took him for 317 and 433. 317 is really tough, but once you make it through his other classes are not as bad. Expects alot, somewhat cold but you will learn alot! Def take him if you are a mktg major, avoid if the class is mandatory

I was nervous until before my first mktg class. However, after that liked his teaching methods and enjoyed his class. I think people who complain here actually did not do the works in class. Marc clearly explained things in every class and was a very nice, gentle guy. You only get what you do!!!

I don't think Marc is as bad as some of these comments make him out to be. I think he explains the material really well and he really stresses what you need to know to be able to do the assignments and the midterm and final. He is a very serious guy but maybe that was a good thing and I took this course a lot more serious, since it is a hard class

Could take a joke and made the class laugh, not as arrogant as everyone makes him out to be. Not THAT hard of a class. Read over the notes and do a few case studies.

Marc is a good teacher, yeah he can be condescending, but thats mainly to the kids that ask stupid questions. MKTG isn't as hard as everyone makes it out to be! The only complaint i have is favoritism is extremely obvious! if your a hot girl then you'll be fine!

The material is clear and ok. However there is barely anytime to finish his exams. You have no time to think during exams. You have to write none stop until the last second passes. The exams are 3 hours long but should be scheduled for 4 hours. Difficult and LONNNG! Prof can be ignorant but you can learn a lot from this class.

Marc is SO good and well-prepared on his lecture. You definitely could understand clearly if you attend to EVERY class. It is SO important to buy the text since all the multiple choice would be tested according to the text materials. This course was not that hard as I thought.

Marc is a great prof. Listen and pay attention to how he wants you to write the exam. He's so clear. The exams are marked hard, but the assignments are not really. People underestimate what is required for a 300 level course, which is why some do bad. Take it in spring if you can. It was not bad.

Ya! Marc was very good in Sping semester. The midterm was relatively easier because we got the same case, used in fall 2008 midterm, in our midterm exam and the class average was over 70. also, TA marked exams very generously because there is only one TA in Spring as far as i know. Take MKTG 317 IN SPRING, Marc makes it a lot easier!!!

The people that made bad comments were probably the ones that didn't pay much attention to what the prof said in the first place. Just put in the effort and time, and you'll probably get a good grade. He's a fair prof as long as you go to class and actually listen to what he says. He tells you what mistakes NOT to make and people maek them anyway.

I was a little worried about taking this course with Marc because of some of the comments here as well as hearing about how hard the course itself was and how many people fail each semester. however, if you attend ALL his classes and pay attention and take notes, you should do well in this course. I think he's a fantastic prof!

Assignments are vague and require a lot of time. Marc is very approachable and helpful if you have questions. Lectures had a lot of class activities and were engaging. Exams had a lot of "time pig" questions that require knowing course material and how to apply it. The course sucks, but Marc is a great prof.

People who complain about him are nuts. He's easily one of the best profs in Haskayne. He's an MBA guy, extremely knowledgeable and business savvy. Lectures were engaging and interesting. If you're a MKTG major definately go with him. I love how he designed the course to prove that marketing isn't just some easy course on advertising. NOT easy!

Marc is a great prof if you respect the nature of the material and put in the necessary amount of effort. Show up to class! He basically tells you exacly how to write the midterm/final.

Very approachable, Marc will help you with absolutely any problem you have regarding the course material, whether or not you are a mktg major as some people think. If you actually care enough to make any effort in this class you will do well with Marc and he'll respect you for it.

Marc is a good prof. Recipe for sucess: DO NOT miss class, every word he says is important, so take good notes and memorize his notes. The only trick about exams is managing time, if you know your stuff really well, u should be fine. Practice cases for exams, its very helpful. Practice the online mc questions too. YES the project sucks!

Marc is a hard working prof that earned his way into the marketing world. He expects nothing less of his students. Go to class, listen, take notes, ask smart questions, go to his office hours, and work hard. It will pay off. He really wants his students to succeed but they need to be willing to as well.

This was a really interesting course - lots of films and group discussion to keep the classes engaging. The assignment and exams aren't easy, but what course isn't? He is very helpful with any questions or concerns. Put in the effort and it will pay off.

Marc is great in class. Wasn't registered in his, but sat in his. Definitely learned a lot. Personally, IMO the class needs an overhaul -- grades do not reflect knowledge outcome, so don't be discouraged.

Marc is one of my favorite instructors that I have had so far. I found his lectures to be engaging and informative. The exams are difficult, as is the term project, so expect to invest some time in the course if you are gunning for an A. He was a hard marker, but if you ask him questions to fully understand his expectations, it's not bad at all.

Despite the barrage of bad ratings from the MKTG 317 sections - due to their own incompetence - Marc is a great professor. He does make the courses difficult and challenging - but with that in mind - they are very rewarding at the end. Make sure you attend his lectures. This is a review for his senior B2B class. What a truly unique experience. Marc did a great job getting everyone engaged and motivated to complete very relevant assignments and projects. This is one of the few classes that I feel I can directly apply in the business world. His expectations are high, but it truly makes it more rewarding in the end.

Marc is one of the BEST profs! You can't blame him that the course itself is hard, but I really learned a lot in his class. To achieve a good grade it is imperative to take notes and attend class. You MUST read the textbook. With the project make sure you take time to ask questions outside of class time if you don't understand. I will miss him!

This course is VERY content heavy. The project was a huge pain. The midterm was not too bad as along as you knew the course notes and listened in class. The final was trickier. He was decently helpful when needed. Explained concepts well in class.

The class does require work especially the project. Marc is kind of full of himself but he does try to help you understand the concepts. He is willing to help if you ask questions. Show up to class bc the notes and what he discusses are useful! If you are willing put the time in the class isn't as hard as people say it is.

The course itself is extremely difficult and time consuming. The hardest 317 in my opinion by far. The professor presents the material in a neat and clear way, however you need to practice the material as much as you possibly can.

Marc is an amazing prof. He cares so much about his students. I can't say how many times he has taken the time out to guide anyone who seeked him out. B2B is the most practical course ever. You will learn about yourself more then you think. Its a shame that Boivin doesnt teach more class. He is the greatest of all time

This is a soon to be required course for marketing majors, and I highly recommend that you take it with Marc if you get the option. He has such a clear and distinct way of communicating content and project expectations, as well as engaging the class and keeping it interesting. Very approachable, great guy in person. Great class overall.

Marc really knows his material. He was very informative and taught us everything we needed to know for the tests. This course honestly isn't terrible. You could get stuck with a bad group for the projects but that's really the only thing to be aware of. MKTG isn't as scary as people make it sound. And it feels great when it's over!

Mktg 317 is not an easy course; the project is time consuming and a poor group will hurt your chances for a high mark. That being said, Marc is an amazing prof if you do the work. Marc is an amazing prof. He is knowledgeable and is willing to help his students succeed. His lecture slides are very helpful and has many examples of the key concepts. The midterm and the final are both very long so be sure to know your material well.

2 assignments, 1 group project, and a final. his lectures are precise and concise. expect lot of class activities in class and be ready to take notes because he doesn't post lecture slides online. make sure you know how to make marketing strategy for final.

MKTG 317 is a hard course in itself but Marc made lectures super fun. You will have to work really hard to get a good grade but it'll be even harder if you take it with other profs. Going to his tutorials really help! He will give you tons of good feedback on how to write proper cases.

Marc can be a tough professor, but if you put in the time and effort you will end up with a decent grade. If the test averages are below his expectations he will give out marks. If you go and ask for help he is very clear and wants you to understand. Would recommend.

Marc is overall a great professor. I think if you take Jack's class, he makes it less boring, but Marc prepares you better for the final exam. I have found him to be one of the nicer profs Ive had. other reviews are not entirely accurate, if youre lazy youre not getting a freebie. asked him personally for extra help and hes been approachable and actually really really kind and pleasant. He has been understanding of the online shift + helps kids succeed.

I did not hear good thing about this prof, but to be honest he was very very nice, approachable prof. he would email you quickly and help you outside of the class if you have questions about group project or the class activities. Overall, nice prof!

Marc is very knowledgeable in his field. I really enjoyed this class as there were a lot of relevant case analyses in which we would use to relate to current events. In this class there are also guest speakers from various fields which I think provided a lot of guidance to students who are close to graduating. However, he is quite a tough grader.

Marc's classes are tough but they are the classes I remember the most and will utilize in the real world. He's not everyone's cup of tea but bottom line he's knowledgeable and wants his students to succeed beyond academia and thus pushes you out of your comfort zone. He also guided us through real world interactions with clients for the project

He is the most realistic prof I've had and he'll actually help you out for your long-run career path, as opposed to just regurgitating information from a textbook. I took so much from his classes and he is so helpful and genuinely cares about your success. If you want to learn valuable MKTG/business skills for your career, TAKE HIS CLASS!

Marc is a pretty good prof. He does a great job of providing real world examples in his lectures, and actually relates his content to real life. The in class activities are marked pretty harsh, so just be careful while you're doing them. Overall, Marc is a good choice when doing MKTG 317.

He's honestly a good professor, but MKTG 317 is due for a complete overhaul of its course structure. The in-class activities are not useful for teaching students marketing theory, and it seems like the chapters are purposely segmented weirdly to make the course feel harder than it actually is by randomly tying in related chapters out of the blue

GROUP PROJECTS!! The grading and weight for them are all over the place but majority of the concepts learned in class are used in them which is nice because you get tons of practice with the material itself. Marc seems pretty straight forward and reserved but the more you participate the more open he'll be with you, make sure to show up to class!

Horrible marking scheme, if the teacher says your answers are absolutely perfect the devious TA will take marks off, get ready to receive a 3/5 no matter how good you do. Final being online took a lot of stress off, terribly designed class. Speak to prof about EACH wrongfully marked assignments he will adjust them.

Professor Boivin was fair, balanced, and great at teaching marketing. He has a lot of passion. I would take a class with him again for sure

tbh I actually learned something new perspective in this class, he teaches well. He changed the structure from in-class activities to pop-up quizzes. The quizzes aren't easy, but the activities were alright. You just need a solid partner to bounce ideas off of since a lot of that content shows up in the quizzes.

Final was really tough. you are given roughly 7 page long case study to answer the questions. Group report and video were graded easier. In-class quizzes were random. Teaching was decent—30min lecture, partner discussions, break, then a tutorial with a case (similar to final). Overall, okay prof but course design could improve. -- Spring25.

He replaced assignments with quizzes. Way easier. Surprised at his low rating. Class is super easy. Problem is 75% of my grade is still undetermined with 4 days left in the semester. Literally haven't studied once. I currently have an A+. He gives you 45 mins to do a 20 min assignment (not for marks), which the quiz is partially based on.

The class is easier than most people are making it to be. He has weekly quizzes, out of which two get dropped. If you know how to apply the concepts, then you'll be fine. Group project was tedious but very doable. You definitely have to learn and reinforce the content before class, but other than that, I loved his class.
