When first taking this class I thought we would be talking about stars- do not make the same mistake I did. Marc is extremely smart but forgets the factor that a lot of us are totally new to this subject and goes over none of the basics. This class is so hard and involves a lot of math.

Dr. Gagne is an extremely smart and respectable professor. He knows and loves what he teaches. Astronomy is not an easy discipline, don't expect any astronomy course to be easy. You should have actual interest in the course and not just try to fill credits if you're taking ESS112. Read the course descriptions.

This class is what you make of it. Beware that it is pretty physics-heavy. Gagne is a super passionate and funny professor, so attending the lectures is genuinely interesting. I only attended once a week to get the quiz PW. Midterm and final study guides are nicely reflective of the exams and Gagne hosts helpful study sessions before them.

Amazing professor, clearly understands what he is talking about, very passionate, but forgets that students have no prior experience but understands how hard the material can be. I did not take physics or astronomy before that class, but did every quiz, got a good grade on the midterm, which is the hardest exam of the semester. Had 104% by final.

I enjoyed this class, Dr. Gagne is very passionate about astronomy and loves to teach it. He gives you a bunch of resources and lot of opportunity for extra credit. It is very much a conceptually based classes, so it is important that you try to understand what's going on and why. Having prior physics knowledge would definitely help, but necessary.

Quite frankly, I adored Doctor Gagne, but as a teacher of a level-100 class, he is prone to getting carried away and babbling about things that most students know absolutely nothing about. Still, he was inspirational enough for me to consider switching to astronomy altogether. To excel in this class, simply go the exam reviews.

He's not the best at explaining for beginners, but he's very passionate and answers any questions. Take notes on what he highlights. Worksheets and quizzes are easy, and he gives lots of bonus points. Making friends, group chats, and studying together made this class way easier.

if you are truly passionate about how to calculate how fast planets move, then im sure you will enjoy this class. He doesn't teach, he tells. He will say scientific words that nobody other than him knows. some lectures I didn't understand a thing. tests were copy and pastes of study guides. humor is not funny either
