This class is A LOT of work.. if you keep up you'll do fine.. plus he gives students the option to do test corrections.
his class is very hard. His teaching method was sometimes hard to understand but as long as you go to class and he knows you try he will bump up your grade. i managed an A and only passed the tests thanks to the test corrections

not that great of a prof.. not the worst tho... he talks WAY too fast!! tons of homework!!! tests are WAY, WAY harder than you would expect based off the homework! so study hard!! avoid him if possible!
Mr. Grether is a great professor. I was able to get an A in the class, but it wasn't just by going to class. I did my homework (which there is a lot of) and I studied for the tests (which were kind of hard), and most importantly, I went to the math lab a lot. He's great, but be prepared to put forth some effort into the class.
He's a nice guy and the class is pretty easy as long as you show up and learn the material.
i really liked how he made sure we were learning the concept behind the math rather than just doing problems in class. i'm a math person, so understanding him wasn't much of a problem for me, but i agree, he talks so fast that he trips himself up a lot. if you're not a math person, then i suggest you take from another professor.
Great teacher! Just make sure you attend every class even though he does not take attendance. If you have any problems, he is very helpful during office hours.
Hes really hard to understand in class, but if you go to his office he explains everything alot more clearly. Its easy to pass his class, if you attend and do all the homework. He lets you do test corrections. I got a C, D & F on the tests and passed with a C...I guess because of homework..Hes a really understanding professor also.
Lots of Work, Knows what he is talking about. Moves really fast but will ask questions and help you understand even if you haven't been paying attention and your a few classes behind. nice guy. take him for a teacher if possible
Great Teacher, he really cares about his students. I had him for a combined course and he made sure that everyone did well. Take him if you get the chance.
Very helpful and patient professor, especially for folks who have a hard time with math. Great Professor!! Highly recommended. Explains math very well and emails you back quickly!
I am struggling right now in his class. He moves so quick like he has severe adhd or is speaking at an auction. He doesn't take struggling students into account. Test was brutal. This professor makes me so upset because all I want is for him to slow down & let some of the quieter students answer instead of the 18yr old boys that just got out of h.s
Grether is an awful teacher. He talks a hundred miles a minute and told us at the beginning of the class not to bother with telling him to slow down. He expects WAY, WAY too much out of a 1000 level class by giving useless group and excel projects that are extremely vague and difficult to complete. DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR!!!!!!
Hes so helpful. i loved him
It is hard to understand what he is saying sometimes because he talks so fast. There were some math problems from the homework that he was not able to figure out. He gives ridiculous tests and the average test grade was a 52. I would not recommend him for calculus.
Great Professor! And even though he does talk fast, he doesn't mind repeating himself. He is very flexible and willing to meet with students outside of class to assist. If you know that you are struggling in math, seek help! It's that simple. There is no reason why anyone shouldn't pass this class. I aced it!
Feelings like an online course, i understand him putting up videos on youtube to help us but telling us to watch those instead of just going over it in class SUCKS. also alot of websites to check for homework and "group" excel assignments that just burn into your time and dont really help much. must have free time outside of class to learn material
Prof. Grether is a nice guy but the class is difficult. It feels like an online course. He gives loads of homework, but it's very simple as to where the tests are more difficult, but he does put a review online of EXACTLY what the test will consist of.It's a difficult class, but if you take advantage of his office hours he is VERY helpful.Sweet guy.
he replies quickly to all emails even late at night. He is a great teacher.
Dr. Grether is a pretty cool cat. While he talks super fast and is sometimes hard to keep up with, he's a fun teacher. His jokes are corny, but relevant, and he's always happy to e-mail you if you have trouble with any homework or anything. I highly suggest taking his class.
Professor Grether is the nicest guy ever! He's so hands-on and helpful; he really cares if you understand and if you're doing well. Highly recommend him.
While he was nice and helpful, he went way too fast through the lectures and I could not catch on especially being weak in math. If you aren't great at math then don't bother. Too fast
Some of the stuff we cover is difficult and he goes alittle to fast through it. There is alot of homework and it does feel like an online class. The tests are hard. But he's a good teacher, just wish he went slower.
He tends to talk a little fast, but he's cool. Really good teacher. He's really understanding and eager to help. His class isn't that hard. Do the homework and you'll be fine.
Cool guy, love him. Highly recommend!!
Grether is a good teacher. He talks fast, but is willing to repeat himself as many times as it takes for you to understand the concept. The tests are quite difficult if you don't study the material. Just doing the homeworks and not studying will not help. There was one extra credit assignment and I made F's on all of the tests and still made a C.
I am HORRIBLE at math, but Grether was clear in his teaching and really wants us to get good grades. The lab was annoying but easy enough. All homework online, at one point I thought I was going to get a C but ended up with an A! Trust me - TAKE HIS CLASS! You're not going to get any better than him! Super nice.
SPRING 2012; I hated math because it frustrated me, i couldn't understand it. He gave alot of example problems which helped me alot.. he made it SO simple
Mr. Grether is a patient, helpful, and all around good person who has all the time in the world for you if you need him. ALWAYS gives you his full attention when you need it and will bend backwards to help you! Highly recommend him for anybody struggling with math
he was an excellent teacher and accommodated every student. He did talk really fast but was still clear and understandable. he seemed to really enjoy his job.
very helpful and funny guy! he talks sooooo fast though.d
This was my second time taking the course. He kept my attention so I wasn't bored. You definitely want to go to class because if you don't you will be completely lost the next class. His tests are easy, but only if you do mymathlab. You will need Mymathlab and will need to do it. It will help your final grade at the end of the semester.
Uses a program called ALEKS in his current 1010s and it is a better professor than any I've had before! Take if only for the personalized, clean cut website that he uses.
Not too hard for a math class. You have to print out notes before EVERY class and do a lot of online quizzes and homework, but if you go to class and actually fill in the notes, the homework is pretty straight forward. tests are kind of hard.
Nice guy and a great teacher. Teaches us what we need to know without any fluff. I had an 8am so sometimes i felt like I was doozing off, but other than that i would recommend him.
There is a lot of assignments, but they can usually be done pretty quickly. He has the homework and quizzes all open for the whole semester. This is nice because you can always get ahead. Study hard for the tests and if you do the homework and quizzes you can get an A.
Good professor. He tries to make topics interesting and easy to follow and for the most part succeeds. Talks kind of fast but not too fast to where you can't keep up. Kind of has a dry sense of humor. He'll more times than not go over homework or quiz questions if you have them. Very helpful
Had Prof. Grether for two classes, I waited until he was teaching the second one to take his class. He is very good at helping you understand algebra. If you struggle with algebra this is the guy you want. He is genuinely concerned with helping students understand the material. Doesn't always take roll but you don't want to miss his lectures.
I took Grether for statistics and if you have trouble in that class, do not take him! He talks so fast, and he let us know that on the first day of class. I thought it would be okay, but after chapter 5 I was completely lost. I ended up dropping the class. If he talked slower and went over less information a day, it probably would have been alright
Talks quickly but is very willing to cover things you don't understand. GO TO CLASS. Even though he'll email you the lecture notes, you need to be there because he frequently gives asides that are important. He gives hints about questions that will be on the test. Scatter-brained but hilarious. Would recommend.
Although he talks super fast, he will slow down and cover something again if you ask him to. It helps to do the homework before class so that you can ask him to go over homework questions that you don't understand. He's very helpful and will answer most questions that you have during lecture. Go to class, do your homework, and DO YOUR TEST REVIEWS.
Goes super fast but reviews well before exams. His office hours really help
If you need any help just go to his office hours.
I recommend this professor to anyone! He is extremely nice and approachable. He does go fast but if you have any questions he will gladly stop class and answer any questions. DEFINITELY GO TO HIS OFFICE HOURS!!! He makes it obvious he's there to help; very knowledgeable.
One of the best mathematics teachers Ive had. Very helpful and willing to e explain things more deeply if you ask and go to his office hours. It is mathematics though so don't expect the class to be your easiest of the semester.
He's a great professor.
He's a great guy. He's funny, and he's very inspiring. If you ask him for help and you're serious and dedicated, he'll always be happy to help.
If you speak English as a second language, Marc Grether is hard to understand because he speaks fast, however he is very helpful. I got A because I prepared for the lectures before the class got started, I had not missed any class, and always I asked questions to make sure I understand everything.
It's my first year at UNT and he is the best professor I've had so far. Very helpful and explains material thoroughly. He also has a nice sense of humor.
I would honestly take his class again just because he is so inspirational & helpful. He makes you get mathematics & discuses the material thoroughly if you have any questions or difficulties grasping the concept. He's one of the many professors that actually cares about you. He doesn't bite, so go visit his office hours or talk to him after class!
It's honestly normal that you have homework after each lesson, so expect that. Attendance isn't mandatory but go to class just to actually get the information. Ask questions & he's ready to help! Also, he's hilarious. He's passionate about math, so he'll talk really fast, but I honestly don't mind it.
Excellent professor. I'm probably going to have to take it again, but only because it was my own, lazy self. Attendance is not required by him but I highly suggest going to all the lectures because they are IMPORTANT. He simplifies the text in better ways than the book can. If he goes too fast (often) he will stop & explain. Do you guys buy that?
great guy, easy class.
Awesome Professor! He may talk a little fast but you'll get use to it. He is really invested in the course which is great to see compared to other professors. Take his class! One of the best professors at UNT. Trust me on this one, great guy.
He's a really good professor, but beware: he speaks quickly. He also knows that he speaks quickly so if you tell him to slow down, he definitely will. There's quite a bit of online homework to do, but you get extra points for doing it early.
Despite getting a C, I really enjoyed this class. You can tell how passionate he is about the subject. He tends to ramble during lecture, but he's entertaining, and educational. mylabsplus is used a lot. If you have questions email him! He has no problem helping.
Professor Grether was a great teacher. As someone who has struggled with math since high school the class was fairly easy as long as you keep up with your assignments on MyMathLab. He does talk really quickly but he will gladly repeat slower or rephrase if you do not understand something.
He undoubtedly has a genius-level IQ. The guy knows SO much about everything, I swear. He's happy to explain something and it's rarely ever going to be a "just because" answer. He's hilarious, too. I catch myself smiling a lot during his lectures. He's a great teacher in so many ways. Wish I had more room because I could seriously keep going.
He is an amazing professor! I had to drop this class last semester with another prof, but now i'm making an A! He walks around the room to make sure students really understand the material. I'm taking him next semester for business calculus. I was originally really nervous to take business cal, but knowing he's teaching it relieves all my worries!
This class is a pretty easy one if you actually do the work. If you decide to not show up for a week or so or decide to skip some homework you are most likely going to end up lost and struggle to find your way back.
Grether was a good Professor and made things easy to understand. Yes it is math and it can be hard, but as long as you try, you'll do fine.
He's an awesome professor because he actually cares if you are learning. He walks around the room and helps during examples. The exams are not difficult as long as you study the study guide (the study guide is more difficult than the actual exam) and the homework helps too!
The professor for math 1580 was good he was there when you needed help. He made sure students understood the information and on exam time he went over some of the small things that would be on test. He would let you do corrections on exams and get 10pts added on exams.
Professor Grether is a brilliant guy. He's a good teacher and will help you no matter what. His tests are completely fair. He tests you over what he teaches, and will give you hints on what's going to be on the test. If you put a little effort into this class you can easily make an A. Would take him again.
I took this class with another Proffesor in Spring semester and got a D, so I took it again in the Summer with Mr. Grether, and he was teaching very clearly and make sure you understand .After each exam, he give you a chance to correct your mistakes and get extra credits. I got an A in the class. Highly recommend take in him
I took the class in the summer. He gives you print out notes to follow along. As long as you show up, follow along in the notes, and do the homework you will pass. I got an easy A after not taking a proper math course for 4+ years. Would highly recommend.
Great Professor! Gives ALOT of extra credit. Extremely helpful! Best math teacher I have had!
Really great professor! He knows what he is talking about and really helps prepare you for calculus. He gave us notes so it was easy to follow along. There's homework, but it gets you ready for the exams.
Test are idea based so numbers are never crazy and his reviews correlate well with his test. Do the homework before class and go over the reviews he gives and you will get at least a B.
I am in Grether's class right now and I already know I would take his class again. He does talk fast but I found it easy to keep up with the lectures after a week or so. He really does care about his students succeeding, lets you correct exams for partial credit back and will answer your questions! TAKE HIS CLASS! He's a great math teacher!!!
I'm retaking this course and this guy is awesome compared to last prof. I had. He gives you all the lecture notes for the course to follow along with, he has office hours almost every day of the week, and you get to make test corrections for partial credit. Take him if you struggle with math.
Really love Prof. Grether! Class was mandatory at the beginning but after about week 11 he stopped taking attendance. The other reviews are right, he talks really fast and he is scatterbrained. However, I went to his office hours every week and he is beyond helpful and so sweet. Recommended for sure!
Easily one of the top ten professors at UNT. Does talk fast, but it is clear and easy to follow. Does an extremely proficient job at making sure his students truly understand the coursework. Gives his students several opportunities for improving their grades; you have to TRY to fail his class. 10/10
Great guy. Three exams and final. You can replace your lowest test grade with the final exam grade if it improves your grade.
GREAT Professor! I'm sad to be taking Math 1190 at a community college. I learned so much about the real world. The tests really aren't that difficult. Expect at least 2 hours of homework, but in the end, its worth it! He lets you do test corrections. Please take him. You won't regret it.
Amazing professor, talks fast but will slow down and repeat himself if you ask him too. Taken him for 1180 and 1190 and he definantly knows what he's doing! Would have gotten a higher grade if I actually tried. Replaces your lowest test grade with your final grade if it benefits you.
The class content is rough but he clearly cares about what he is teaching. He helps as much as he can to help everyone understand the content and helps to pass. This is the second time i took this class and he made the content so much more understandable.
Calculus is hard period unless that's just your thing and it is obviously Professor Grether's thing. He knows his stuff and tries his best to get everyone on board. I have taken two other math courses with other professors at UNT (one being this exact class) and Grether was God sent compared to the other two.
Fantastic teacher, Professor Grether has an amazing way of explaining calculus (had him for 1180 and 90). I'm a person who HATES math and I can never wrap my mind around it however, he helped me understand it. Just make sure you go to class otherwise you wont understand anything in the class. Do the homework and reviews and you will be fine.
If you are looking for a great MATH 1190 professor, he's your guy. His lectures are very clear and precise. He will help you, even in the middle of class. His feedback is excellent and truly wants you to succeed. You will need to purchase a code to access the homework, the textbook is optional and I wouldn't recommend spending on it.
Prof. Grether is great. I'm in his pre-cal class right now, and I already know I want to take him for calculus. He is caring and lets students do test corrections for upto 25% of missed points back. Always available if you need help. Take him!
If you are worried about business calc, take with him. He's the best, for real. Failed before with an F because of an awful professor, made a high B with him. Really really cool guy.
Took him for 1180 and 1190 and would take his class again if I could. He genuinely wants his class to succeed and will always stop during the lecture to explain concepts that the class finds confusing. For his classes, attendance isn't mandatory, but miss few classes and you will fall behind for sure.
Professor Grether is the best math teacher I've ever had. He genuinely cares about the success of his students and it shows in his lectures. His tests are straight forward and he lets you correct them for up to 25% of the points missed to be added back. I was horrible at math in high school but taking business cal with him got me an A. TAKE GRETHER
He is funny and a simple guy. He gives a lot of homework but only so you can practice. His test are exactly as he study guide with different numbers make sure you read the questions he gets tricky on you. You have to buy my math lab but you don't need the book. Use his printouts
TAKE HIM! Any calculus class you take is going to be difficult, but Professor Grether does a great job explaining the material & he makes the class entertaining. He also allows test corrections where you can earn up to a quarter of the missed points back. He posts the chapter notes on Blackboard and I highly recommend printing them out before class
Proff. Grether seems to really care about your actual learning rather than just preparing for a test. At times his responses to questions in class seem rude but I feel as though it's because he's smart and it's hard for him to understand why you don't understand. Some of his responses are funny if you understand them
Not an easy class. You have to work for the grade you want, but Prof. Grether is a good teacher.
Awesome class, take him if you have trouble with Calculus, he really makes it easy to understand.
Great Professor! He gives you test corrections on every test to raise your grade and is very caring. This was my second time taking this class and this professor was way better than my first with helping me understand the material better. I learned from the first time but don't miss class or you will fall behind a whole day. Something new everyday.
I took Prof Grether for Probability Models, and while I didn't pass due to my own personal issues, he's a great professor and I would take him again in a heartbeat.
Marc Grether is the most caring math professor at UNT. I took Math1180 & Math1190 with him and visited his office hours regularly. Helpful to go to his office hours 2-3 times with the exam review before the test because he will give out hints to the test. No matter what though if you study and understand the reviews well you should pass the test.
Seems very approachable and knowledgeable at the begging of the semester. Will add mid-semester and end of semester reviews.
I took this class multiple times before I took it with him. And I failed all three times until I took it with him. Not only does he explain content well but he gives reviews as well. Something my other teachers didn't do. He allows you to do test corrections. If you show up, pay attention, and put in some effort. You should be okay.
Good prof., speaks rather quickly but audible. Hes has a funny dad humor, loves calculus and teaches it quite well. He provides reviews for all tests EXCEPT the final (which replaces your lowest test grade) so study the reviews forwards and backwards in order to make a good grade on the final exam. Compared to other 1190 profs I would take him!!!
Good professor with good lectures, is a solid math choice.
Mr. Grether is extremely accessible, has a great sense of humor, and really cares about your success. He goes out of his way to make sure you're understanding the material, and knowing why you're doing what you're doing, rather than just how to do it. I would not only take another class of his, but would go out of my way to do so.
Mr. Grether is a terrific professor and knows his stuff. Hes always ready to help outside of class. Put effort forth and you will do well!
Outstanding math teacher. Put in the work and it will reflect accordingly. Make sure not to fall behind on key elements in class. He provides notes outlines and reviews for exams. Talks quick and thinks quick, but focus on what he says and continues repeating. Very accurate on responses, but underutilized class announcements. Great math professor.
LOVED having him for Pre-Cal. Very understanding and would work with you if you are falling behind on a topic. He also allows for test corrections for up to a quarter of the total points missed which is INSANE for a college level math course. Great humor, solid teacher, and gets excited about the concepts he's teaching. 10/10 would take again!!
This professor is way too fast pace for me. Im not good at math so he was not a very good teacher. His HW is too time consuming and makes you continue to do it the more you miss questions. If you dont have a calculator and your notes in class every time, youre screwed. His tests are too hard for them to only be 50 minutes. I just dont recommend
Grether is okay, the notes are provided all you need to do is print them out. Dont miss class youll get lost pretty easily and theres a lot of HW and the new system adds a question every time you miss one. He gives reviews but they arent as helpful as they should be. The only good thing is that he does exam corrections so you get points back.
I loved Grethers lectures! The people that didn't do well in this course are the ones that either skipped class or didn't pay attention in class. Grether tells you during his lectures problems that are similar to the ones that will be on the test, and guess what?! THEY ARE!!! He does teach at a faster pace but its nothing extreme you'll be fine! :)
Energetic but will teach you what you need to know to pass. Hard but you will pass if you prepare.
Without a doubt one of the best teachers I have ever had. He definitely wants you to get the material, but you won't have a problem understanding it becuase he explains it great. If you do the practice tests and homework you should do more than fine. He even allows you to correct the tests for extra points. Would reccomend him to everyone.
Attend lectures!! His printed organized notes to follow along with are the best. He is also nice with test curves :) Being able to correct your tests saves your gpa plus you learn the material better for the final. The homework can be a beating, but if you plan your time wisely you will be just fine. a lot of outside of class help is available!
Marc is HANDS DOWN the best math teacher I have ever had. I did not take the pre-requisite MATH1100 class and still got an A thanks to him. He does not waste a single minute of class time and really knows how to teach this subject. If you go to class, take notes, and study, you will have no problem getting an A. Cannot say enough good about him.
Do the read aheads and at least attempt the homework and stay current on it. He cares about students actually learning the material and doing well in future math courses. Allows students to correct (for credit) their mistakes to learn from them. If you fail his class you had to have tried to ignore him or just not show up. Great Professor!
Grether is a really nice professor and truly cares about his students. He's generally fair with his tests but still offers every student the point to get credit back on exams just by doing corrections. The online homeworks are taxing because there's about 3 per week but doing them helps you learn. Just print his notes online and you'll be fine.
Professor Grether has been my favorite. He is super enthusiastic and caring for his students. He replies to emails very fast and gives great feedback. He lets us correct our exams for so many points back. His in-class lecture notes make everything understandable and easy to follow along :) DEFINITELY RECOMMEND HIM!!
I love how this class is laid out. There is this online section of the class where you do interactive assignments and homework. That part is where I really learned how to do statistics. I didnt attend classes but did all my online work and went in for test. I stopped going to lecture because he talked too fast for me and only confused me more.
I would HIGHLY recommend Professor Grether! Yes, he does talk fast but that is only to cover the material in time before the exams. If you do the homework before class he won't confuse you. Also, I would show up to class he gives a lot of great pointers on how to do homework, stat-crunch and exams. He is not boring, wants you to learn and CARES!
Grether moves very fast in lecture and if you are a slow learner like me, you won't be able to keep up in class. His teaching style simply did not work for me, although he is very caring, funny, and energetic. His positive attitude and wittiness were about the only things that got me through it.
Grether speaks extremely quickly, but he's never saying anything of substance at all. He's terrible at teaching and rambles incoherently, and almost everything he says is difficult to understand. He's the first professor I've ever seen whose office hours are completely unhelpful. This class was horrible, and his incompetence made it so much worse.
TAKE THIS PROFESSOR! Make sure you go to class, concepts are hard but if you sit through the lecture rather than trying to learn at home you will learn allot more. DO THE HOMEWORK, I lacked in this area and wouldve gotten an A if I completed all the homeworks. Finished with a high B. Amazing teacher!
If you have the chance to take this specific class in a classroom do it, biggest mistake taking this class online, everyone in my class struggled through out the whole semester, more than half of the class got C's, so if you are wanting an A I would highly recommend you taking it on campus.
Dr. Grether was a fantastic teacher!! He really knew how to break down all the different methods and formulas for the best understanding. Pretty funny guy as well, loved his puns. tip: DO THE HOMEWORK! I skipped out on some modules and cost me a pretty A
This class can be difficult for a lot of people, but Dr. Grether was always really open to questions if you have them. The homework really helps and covers all the material but going to class helps reinforce that knowlege. Go to class and you'll be alright.
If you don't pay attention in class, you'll fail. He goes through the lectures so fast that it's really hard to learn. Do the homework and that's really what helped me learn and understand everything. He lets you make test corrections to get points back, which helps a lot.
This class is extremely fast paced. He speaks very fast and doesn't go into full detail. His course work is extremely time consuming. I'm not the best at math, but I'm not horrible, and his homework still takes me on average 3 hours a night every night. I would not recomend taking this class at all.
Marc is a very tough grader, his lectures are confusing
I took his class in person the first time and he was too fast-paced for me so I retook his course online and passed. He was always kind, caring, always willing to help via zoom and go over questions on exam reviews or homework that we did not understand. Heavy online homework but if you keep up and stay ahead you'll be alright.
Professor Grether is the worst professor Ive had at UNT so far. Except to have about 4-6 homework assignments due every week. Each homework assignment can range from 1 hour to about 2 hours. On top of 20-40min lectures that you have to watch for the homework assignments. Tests are just as difficult. He doesnt make it any easier.
Business calculus is hard. His lectures are long 17 minutes up to 50 minutes. Be ready to do about 4 to 6 homework assignments a week, which takes up to 2 hours depending on content. It is definitely doable. There is 3 exams and 1 comprehensive final which makes up 70% of your grade. Be ready to STUDY.
Grether is very hands-off when it comes to his online course. He updates the class at the beginning of each week, offering tips and reminders on how to best handle each new topic. Practically all the assignments are done via Knewton, a subscription math service. It keeps my schedule flexible and allows multiple attempts. Going into his 1190 next!
Professor Grether really shows that he cares about his students. He would go out of his way to help those who didn't understand the concept or topic. Although there is no textbook, there is a "textbook," which is an online "workbook" with questions you answer. No reading involved. As long as you watch his YouTube videos you should be fine.
Im having to do online learning for his class and its been great, he is very clear when teaching, gives opportunities to make above 100 for exams, and his reviews for each exam are soooo helpful, he also makes videos reviewing the popular questions that people struggled with on the reviews. Would recommend you take his class, good luck!
This was one of the best teachers I ever had in Math. I took this as an online class and it was amazing. He has clear instructions for what to do and he is super nice. He gives a lot of homework but it is all manageable and there are clear instructions and help for what to do. The exams are similar to the reviews he gives. It is a really good prof.
I hadnt taken a math class in nearly 9 years, let alone an online one, so I was nervous. Professor Grethers video lessons are extremely clear and concise, so working hard is the best way to get an A. Tutors are available every day of the week, and Grether hosts regular zoom meetings answering questions before exams. Participate and youll do fine
I liked it, the online internet course version at first, but giving numerous amounts of homework on Monday isnt acceptable. Not many days to look at the material and schedule help with homework just dumped upon you. If you dont have a job or anything else important to do, this will be a class you can devote all your time to.
The exams make up 75% of the grade in this course, but Grether gives a lot of study reviews before each exam and his video lessons are great. Also, you can get more than 100% on each exam which really boosts your grade if you do well. Follow along, put in some effort and you'll do fine, even if you're not that great at math.
If you are not good at teaching yourself to do the math, be prepared to spend 20 plus hours on HW. HW is different from TR, and tests are written different from all, so tests are confusing. Most often no partial credit it is either wrong or right no in-between. He makes himself avail. but I still had to hire a tutor/even he was often confused.
Professor Grether seems kind. I took his class for 3 different courses, and the layout is all the same. His lectures are accessible through YouTube videos, and the homework is easy. I don't have anything negative to say about this man!
Knewton homework is extremely easy and will make you think you're going to ace the exams. However, the exams aren't even in the same format. All the videos provided are just the proffesor doing the problems like homework, rather than actually explaining anything. This is a class that requires a decent teacher and you will not get that with Grether.
Great professor! Super helpful and the video lectures helped so much with homework! I also really liked the platform we used for our homework. We did have quite a bit of homework but it was actually useful and helped for the tests. Will be taking him again for MATH1190!
Grether honestly is a really good professor. Most of the other calc professors use his youtube video lectures overall. There is a lot of hw involved but just make sure to fill out the notes he provides as you watch the lecture. Grether makes himself available for any questions. He lets you know what will be on the exam so just do the work!
Grether is awesome. 50 HWs, can make a 100 on all (4-12 questions) 3 unit exams, extra points for corrections on all, and 8 extra credit points offered on each exam. Cumulative final. Drops 2 HW grades & 1 engagement grade. Sample exams to study, long lectures, 3 live zoom reviews per exam, SUPER RESPONSIVE. Work hard & he takes care of you.
Professor Grether is awesome! His videos are clear, test reviews very helpful and he really cares for his students. His response is quick and sends out weekly emails for detailed updates about the week. Homework is extremely time-consuming,3 to 4 a week but helpful. gives useful feedback. Work hard and you are sure to ace!Going to his 1190 next!
Hes a great professor
Prof does care about whether or not you learn. He is very knowledgeable. the class itself is super easy. lots of homework but it is manageable. class is not really mandatory, but would def recc going if you do not understand. exams are basically the exam reviews.
I love this teacher, one of my favorite teachers. He really cares about his students and gives extra credit. You have to do 5 exams, which feels a bit too much. But it's not difficult if you study, and he gives you a chance to increase your score.
I was a little hesitant taking Math after not taking it first semester and having it easy my senior year online bc of covid but Prof Grether is great. Even though some materials are harder than others, he gives clear lecture videos and is always open to questions. He also offers test corrections which is a plus. Will be taking him for Math 1190.
Math isn't my best subject, but Professor Grether wants you to succeed . His lectures are fast paced, but he offered test corrections and cares about the students.
Professor Grether made an effort to be available outside of class meeting times. Lectures can go fast, but he is welcome to explain anything covered if you ask. If you aren't comfortable asking in class, you can email and can usually expect an answer same-day. Attending lectures and hand-writing notes helps very much in this class.
Was so helpful and very easy to understand. He was always prepared to help with anything and even offered test reviews with questions that were going to be on the test.
Beware of this teacher
They are 8 questions homework s only but if you miss at least one and get it wrong the same homework will turn into 20 questions
While Grether is obviously very educated and intelligent, he talks extremely fast and blows through topics in minutes. If you're like me and need a little elaboration when it comes to learning new math topics, you'll have to use outside resources and lots of study time. Homework is time consuming. However, he does want to see you succeed.
Professor Grether is the best professor I have ever had. (I took the 8 week course) We had 3-5 lectures, a homework assignment for each, & a test every week. He is super amazing and does an amazing job at explaining the material, & making sure everyone understands; he is also willing to admit when he makes a mistake & help fix it for everyone.
He is very clearly a smart guy and knows A LOT about his topics that he teaches.... HOWEVER, all of his lectures and exam reviews are too fast and he goes through the topic quickly instead of actually explaining them. ALSO doesnt help that HIDES YOUR GRADE THE ENTIRE SEMESTER. He claims its a distraction but its awful that I cant see what I have.
Marc is one of the best math professors at UNT. Gives a lot of extra credit and will even bump your grade up at times.
Such an amazing professor. Strongly recommend you take his class. Always answers any questions you have. Content is simple and straight to the point if you put some effort in understanding the concepts. You'll receive around 2-3 assignments per week but it's really not that bad; each assignment will only take around 1- 2hrs at most.
Amazing professor. Talks fast but has office hours and allows test corrections.
Grether is clearly a very smart man, and clearly knows what he is teaching. But he talks at 200 words a second, making it VERY hard to understand what he is saying and the lectures. Also, he has a sarcastic attitude that comes off as rude and aggressive. He also gets confused about what he's teaching ALOT (weird for a professor). Wouldnt recommend.
Very good lectures, can be fast at times but still manageable. Gives many examples and different ways to solve problems. Offers corrections on exams. One of my favorite teachers, would take him again.
He goes through lectures fast but he's really nice. He'll answer and explain questions to you if you don't understand them. 10/10 great professor take his class!!!!!!!
The homework platform is the worst part of this class. You have to pay for "knewton" and do all your assignments through it. Was able to get an A because the tests are way easier than the homework. Prof talks SO FAST and tends to mumble so it can be hard to keep up/understand. He is kind and forgiving and knows what he's talking about.
Mr. Grether is a professor who clearly cares about his student's success. I had zero confidence going into business calculus as I withdrew from it last semester. I went to almost every office hours session he held and he was a TREMENDOUS help. I wouldn't recommend taking anyone else.
Prof Grether is the picture definition of "there is a method to the madness." He is brilliant, even if he talks quickly. Keep on your toes and be ready to keep up during lecture, but don't hesitate to ask questions as he can explain the material in different ways for different learning styles. Amazing, if slightly chaotic teacher. Great guy
An amazing professor. I'm terrible at math and I had never taken a stats class but he made it a great experience. His lectures can be quick, but if you ask him to slow down he will, and you can ask as many questions as you want. If you need help on anything and you email him, he responds back pretty fast. I'd recommend him for this class.
As someone who is awful at math, Professor Grether was a God send. He has easy to follow lectures and is very accessible outside of class. He also provides test corrections and has several opportunities to get extra credit. 10/10 would take again.
Grether has to be one of my favorite college professors. His notes are very helpful, and he likes to go over homework problems. He also allows you to do corrections on your exams. I loved this class. He cares for his students and wants you to pass. He also gets bonus points for being funny and laughing at my jokes. Please take Marc Grether!
Responsive to emailed questions. Lectures were easy to follow. Will help you help yourself. Highly recommend.
This class is difficult. Computers are not allowed in class yet most of our math work is online. This being said it is hard for students to comprehend the subject because the teacher will show us a problem on a computer then proceed to tell us to figure out the answer on paper. Our issue is being lectured and not taught the long way to do the math.
amazing professor. he was very thorough and clear and straight to the point. He did not overcomplicate the material. he was very understanding with late homework, very responsive to emails, offers test corrections for full points back. He really takes his time to make sure students understand the material. I highly recommend.
He offers test corrections which really, really save you sometimes. He makes all the material which is a bonus. Material is hard sometimes, but just ask for help, he will move mountains for you! Even if you need to review the math basics, he has your back. Every teacher should be like professor Grether.
Took this class online and I barely passed this class if it wasn't for test corrections & SPOT evaluation. He's a really good & fair professor that knows what he's teaching and has helpful lectures. Doing the assignments on Knewton was really time consuming which made it challenging to catch up on my other classes. Please prioritize your schedule.
He is an amazing professor, you need to take him for your math class!! Offered test corrections for a little credit back. He made the material easy enough to understand most of the time, and was always eager to help if you had questions. 10/10
Attendance was taken then stopped later in the semester. Lots of online homework assignments with a required paid textbook. Overall good professor just more difficult class.
PROFESSOR SENT FROM HEAVEN. I am really bad math and helps so much and answer any question we have. also give points towards the end of the semester.
Amazing professor for a universally known difficult class. speaks super fast but will do what it takes to help you learn the concept. GO TO HIS OFFICE HOURS! super nice and patient guy as well, so he wont make you feel dumb for not understanding. but there are lots of homework and the test corrections are for extra credit as well. 10/10 !!!
Professor Grether makes the material digestible and is always willing to help. The workload is manageable, and Unstuckstudy proved a valuable study aid. Definitely take this class if you need a math credit.
Professor Grether was absolutely amazing. He gives great lectures, but just be aware that he talks pretty fast. This class is also homework heavy through Pearson. Professor Grether gives plenty of opportunities for extra credit on the exams and offers test corrections. I 100% recommend you taking this class if you need this credit.
He talks so fast, like extremely fast. Taking good notes is helpful but I rarely went back to them, I found I learned the most during "solve it and we will talk about it" questions and listening to the lecture rather than scrambling to keep up with him. Pearson is heavy with 4 assignments a week so go to the lectures and ask for help; he'll respond
Mr. Grether was super energetic and fun, but also cared about his students and wanted to see them succeed. The homework is a lot worse than the actual tests, As long as you go to class and do the work you'll do great. Would definitely take this professor again!!
The professor doesn't allow computers in class even though the course frequently uses Excel, claiming "it is distracting to other students." He also assigns up to 6 assignments a week, which I feel is a bit egregious if you are a student taking 16 or more hours or multiple labs.
Prof. Grether breaks down the concepts of math very easily and gives multiple examples for us to follow and work through in class. He always clarifies any questions made. He helps students succeed and makes things easier than they have to be whenever presented the choice. I finally understood a math course efficiently. Overall amazing instructor!!
I hate math very much. But this professor made it extremely tolerable and learnable. Got an A in the end
Great teacher with amazing energy. My take was show up everyday and follow his notes and it'll be extremely easy to succeed if you follow along. Math isn't easy but he definitely helped.
In the first few weeks, attendance was required, but later on, it wasn't. There is homework for every lesson/topic. During his lectures, he talks very fast and often goes off on random tangents about various topics in every class. If you have the patience to hear him ramble and talk very fast, and someone who has bad handwriting, take his class.
