Can be a little boring, but he's a nice guy. Class is based on 3 tests and the final. Gives good notes in class. Study notes and homework questions that he recommends and you should be ok on the test.
Tests tend to be fairly difficult
Class drags on. He has a funny hair flip too! He is good b/c he updates you with the current Economy every week. Test can be diffcult ONLY if you dont go to class. Test are based on his notes and his homework questions.
this class is very boring...i dont think showing up helps either, tests are pretty hard
No Comments
I hated this class. Big curve but VERY BORING CLASS.
He gives great notes and is very clear, his tests are a bit challenging, but if you study the homework you will do fine.
Very friendly, although he gave too many examples sometimes which made class seem slow. He includes current economic developments and gives a clear view of the material.
He's a really nice guy and tests are right out of his lectures. Can be a little hard but he's always willing to answer questions and help.
PRETTY EASY CLASS IF YOU GO. TESTS AND LECTURES ARE OUT OF THE BOOK. WILL HINT AT TEST QUESTIONS. HUGE CURVE WHICH MAKES IT REAL EASY FOR AN A OR B!
NICE GUY, DOENSN'T REALLY KNOW WHAT HE IS TALKING ABOUT SOME OF THE TIME, BUT AN EASY CLASS ANYWAY
He is very nice and very helpful if you don't understand. Tests are easy if you go to class and read the text. Examples can be a bit dry but he justs wants to help you to understand.
Dr. Hayford is a brilliant economist who is very willing to help students learn about economics. He is helpful during office hours. If you do the homework, and engage the material, you'll be fine.
Good Guy, but not so good teacher....boring and unclear
This guy is really good. He has trully refined his teaching technique and makes it easy to understand difficult concepts.
Very intelligent guy. Is someone banal sometimes, but for the most part, he is a good teacher. If you want to know economics take Hayford.
Hayford is a nice guy but the whole grade is 2 tests and the final. The tests are straightforward but still difficult if that makes sense. It's not easy- show up and take notes! He's boring so get plenty of sleep beforehand.
I loved this class. He is a dry teacher, but I feel he does a great job bringing the real world into the classroom. Amazing sense of humor if you aren't too dense to get it. Has some really great opinions. Tests can be a little difficult but if you prepare and do the readings, they are fine.
i have a lot of respect for him. very intelligent prof, not anal about things like lateness or absences at all. i'd suggest to read the chapters if his lectures seem unclear & if u wanna get an A. tests are from his notes and hw problems, so dont skip too much. i got an A pretty easy
zzzz...hah what? this class is SO boring and the tests are very hard. Hayford expects students to know a lot before taking his class and goes kinda fast. However in all fairness he curves the tests HUGE so for doing no work at all you'll get a C and learn nothing.
Hayford is the man! Those who complained just aren't remotely serious about Economics. Hayford elucidates important aspects of economics that all business majors should know! His tests require that you know the material. If you attend class, and study, you'll do fine. (As with all classes...) Great guy, great class. I'll take him again!
Professor Hayford has a great class! Just cause some people aren’t smart enough to catch his humor don’t be turned away from the class. If you are interested in Econ Mr. Hayford is a great teacher to take. He’s got that whole laid back hippie attitude thing going on.
He is so unorganized and of the ball is embarassing for me. I ask questions he doesnt have an answer to. People ask dumb questions he doesnt have answer to. Cant explain the graphs he puts on board. He is all over the place. He will confuse ECON for you.
Pretty easy class for ECON! probably the easiest ECON professor at LUC. Just take notes during lecture and study them. tests are straight from the notes. his humor is terrific...listen carefully though..otherwise, you won't catch his humor. take him!
This Prof. is easy. He curves his tests, and assigns hmwk for every chapter covered but doesn't collect it. The only negative about him is that his teaching style is rather free form, sometimes boring, vague and scattered. he is easy going and makes time to for students outside of class. Easy Prof.
Great teacher, you do have to show up for class though, not everything on the tests come straight from the books. He is freaking hilarious, but its hard to notice. He will look up after every joke to see if people are laughing or not. He is kind of boring so get some rest before, but otherwise great macro class. 2 tests and final. thats it.
On the tests, make sure you write EVERYTHING you know about the question--even when you think you're done, keep adding stuff, he looks for an incredible amount of detail. Other than that, pay attention in class, and you should be fine. He curves the tests, so you can get a 60 and still end up with a B or C.
Show up for class, pay attention, and you will be fine. Didn't read the book, but still got an A in the class. Has an incredible curve and is really funny-in a dry humor kind of way. LOVED THIS CLASS! He's a really smart economist. Tries not to confuse you with too much math, but using good examples to clarify confusion.
BORING, oh my god! if i wanted to sleep i wouldve stayed in bed, which is actually what i did most of the time. not too easy but not worth taking.
Just took the final, and it was a little more difficult than his other two exams, but still do-able. This teacher is very nice, smart, and understanding. Sit in the front of the class, and pay attention, and you will get an A. 100% guaranteed.
Not bad, but not great. He's much too dry to make macro interesting. About his reputed humor, it's funny, but it's low-key. So don't expect a big HA HA funny. Nice guy, but needs to be more inspirational and make macro more fun. He's also not very clear, but he's got a good heart. I didn't even bother showing up for 4 weeks.
Great professor. Explained all concepts very well. I would consider Dr. Hayford one of the best econ professors at Loyola!
Hayford is an exceptional teacher. I find him to be quite funny, and knowledgeable. However, the exams are hard, because he has a habit of writing exams that are too long, nearly half of the class will always run over on time. He is always looking for specific things in the essay answers, the key is to write everything you can.
He's not my favorite econ professor but he is knowledgable and helpful but can put you to sleep with his lectures. However, has a very nice grading scale to help students out. For his exams, he will keep drilling in your head the intuitions and the shifts for each graph. Know these and you'll be fine. 2 Exams and the Final.
ok so he's an ok professor. sometimes the class gets sooo boring that i just want to go to sleep. u dont need the book and all the problems that are done he gives u the answers for. just study his notes and write down almost everything that he says and u will do fine on the tests. u can expect at least a B in the class
Macro 300 level. It takes a while to get past his dryness but the class becomes more and more interesting. Even though it was a morning class i looked forward to going and learned a lot. He presents the material in a way that is easy to understand and gives specifics on what the tests cover. I recommend although hard to get A.
His class is not anything out of the ordinary as econ classes go. He's funny and his tests aren' that bad. If you review, especially the graphs, you'll be fine. I have a B without doing much work.
Always talks about Subway, Michigan Ave, and Starbucks. Very bland and boring. Bring something else to do, but take detailed notes.
if you need to take a econ for business core this is the class to take. write down all the graphs and intuitions on the board. write those down on your cheat sheet for the test (you get front and back of a sheet of paper) and you're good. i got a B without knowing anything.
Fine professor...very dry sense of humor which is entertaining. your final grade is derived from 3 tests (there's no homework or participation portion of grade, which is bad if you are a very bad test taker). tests are all bluebook, so be ready to regurgitate all over the bluebook. read the book-it will help with the test and overall understanding.
Awesome teacher. Makes everything very clear and tries to involve students. Very funny.
Boring class, but super easy. Only 3 tests which are your only grade, but he practically tells you everything thats on them. Just take good notes and go over what he tells you to go over before the test and its an easy A
This guy is not helpful at all! The tests are unnecessarily hard. he's a very tough grader and asks only for very specific details. It's not easy to get a good grade. Also he's NOT accessible! he's practically never at his office during his supposed "office hours." Not an approachable person either! The class was also incredibly boring. DO NOT TAKE
I hated going to his boring class! he teaches in the most boring fashion, basically reading off powerpoints and drawing graphs on the board. You'll constantly keep an eye on the clock, waiting for the period to end. he comes off cold and uncaring about students' grades. exams are so hard and he grades harshly. if you value your gpa don't take him!
He uses power points for lectures and way toooo many graphs, if you study his assignment sheets you have an A from the test. Only 3 tests, extra credit available, test curves...
If you are taking econ 304 then you better nail the first exam. It is easy and probably the best way to ensure a good grade. Everything builds after that and it can get really hard to keep up. I will say that I thought the final was impossible and I somehow ended up with an A-. Maybe it was the curve
Prof Hayford is really thorough with his teaching style, so pay attention. Come to class and do the homework and will get an A. I got a B+ because I missed a lot of classes, but I was able to catch up on my lost knowledge by going over the homework sets. Hayford is also very willing to answer questions, in fact he encourages it.
too smug. He's got tenure and is the head of the dpt so he can do whatever the hell he wants so annoying. tests are pretty hard not gonna lie he turned an interesting topic into blahh.this is my major and i love it but hayford totally turned me off from it.very dismissive and gets all haughty and irritated if you make him re explain. NO ME GUSTA!
I think Hayford is one of the best professors in the entire department. Yes, he's hard, but he's very straightforward and always willing to help. If you listen to what he's saying, he's actually pretty interesting. Also, he is so willing to help and I think has his student's best interest in mind.
Great professor, knows his material well. However, if you are not econ major and are looking for an easy A don't take his class. He is good because he makes you understand thinks and teaches you how to analyze instead of memorizing. A MUST take prof. for all ECON majors.
Well I enjoyed his class even though I received a B! He's a nice guy, but most of the time it is extremely hard to pay attention to what he is saying. I would recommend him if you're an Econ major, but drink lots of coffee beforehand!
Hayford is probably the best econ professor Loyola has. He explains the material well and his flow diagrams actually do help the material. He posts problem sets and notes and goes over the sets in class. The solutions are similar to the tests so if you go to class and read the book it's an easy A.
LOL. Uh, this class is not easy. This is my major and I have a decade of experience in the industry. Hayford's a good guy but he throws WAY too many graphs and flow diagrams at you. By the end of the semester they all start to blend together to the point you don't know what's what. You end up memorizing rather than learning. Wouldn't take him again
Dr. Hayford is a fantastic professor! He is probably one of the best econ professors Loyola has. He teaches so many real world applications of the material. I learned a ton in his class, and I highly recommend him to anyone who is genuinely interested in economics. Plus his dry sense of humor is great!
He's the best Econ professor I've had at Loyola thus far (and I'm a junior). He applies what we learn to the real world using recent news articles. He is hilarious! But most of all, he teaches well. READ THE BOOK and go to class and I will guarantee you will get an easy A.
Excellent teacher. You need to study the material, but he gives great lectures and there are NO surprises on exams... you just need to do the studying. He is a great instructor with a great dry sense of humor. He manages to make the class relevant, up-to-date, and interesting while teaching difficult material. Def. recommend.
Hayford is definitely the best econ teacher I've had thus far at Loyola. Keeps class interesting with discussion about current economic policy. Attendance isn't required but is VERY helpful since the flow-diagrams he explains in class and tests you on in his drawing/essay/multiple choice exams are not in the textbook.
I love prof Hayford. His class is very straight forward. Do the homework and he curves the tests. His tests are everything that we have went over no surprises. Overall good teacher. This is my second course with him. I took int. Macro & got a B+. I had some medical issues so I missed some classes, but he is a great help during office hours
Prof. Hayford is one of the best Econ professors at LUC. Take him!! He has a great sense of humor and is always willing to go more in depth with a class. If you have questions, ask in class or go to his office hours! He's always willing to help students in any way possible. His notes are fantastic. Copy his diagrams in class and you'll do great!
His tests are SO HARD. Yes, if you can memorize enormous amounts of material, his tests are just like the homework. Problem is there are like 30 detailed problems to memorize and he gives you no direction when you ask for it. If you can memorize a lot of material, take his class. If not, I would sign up for something else.
Great guy. Loved this class. Lots of long HW but you only need to do 1013 of the assignments. Memorize the HW answers he says to look at to get an A.
Professor Hayford is sassy but willing to help students when they participate and show an interest in the subject. His grading is very specific and tough but he is very clear at what he wants from you for full credit. Test 1 average was a 60%, but he offered EC 10% of final grade to help students make it up, and is doing more review for test 2.
Professor Hayford is a must if you're an ECON major at Loyola. He's extremely knowledgeable, and if you're really into economics he'll be very helpful. He likes to have students participating in class every once in a while. "The LM curve would shift...?" prepare to hear a lot of sentences like that. There were 10 HW problem sets, and three exams.
Hayford is obviously brilliant. One super cool thing is he was teaching us tons of relevant stuff going on in the European Union that isn't in any textbooks yet. So if you want an easy A, not this class, but if you want to be taught by a brilliant guy this is a great class. It was very clear what was on the exams & hw was long but easy points.
Pretty hard class. Make sure you know that you need to put in the work and it's not to bad. The homework is the same as the tests, but there's just a lot of material including graphs and flow diagrams you need to understand.
This class was a lot, but I've learned more useful things in this class than any of my others at Loyola. I sincerely learned about the Economics of the United States especially the Great Recession. It can be dry but so worth it.
Incredibly passionate man willing to help. Had him for 304 and 336 and worked hard to get A's in both. Would take him again. Very smart.
Lectures can be hard to follow but I think that is because Professor Hayford is incredibly intelligent. Not sure what he's doing teaching because the man is a genius. 3 tests (the final is one of them), Weekly homework with an average of 15 questions. If you study the homework, you'll do great on the tests. Everyone does awful on the first exam.
Be ready to be talked at for the whole class period in every single class. Homework insanely long, takes several hours to complete, useless. Exams (2 midterms, final) based on homework, all about memorization capabilities. If you don't write every single detail he wants, you lose points even if you wrote the important things. Wouldn't take him.
over educated, not practical. I think he once asked me a question of "what's an integral", and I was thinking, not going to react because don't want to meet any variations of him or my classmates during my journey
I took him years ago and didn't really understand him until I started to learn functional programming and I had the "ah ha" moment because I memorized everything by heart.
Talks for an hour and a half writing on the board without interacting with the class.
He lectures to you for the whole class period and then asks questions that no one answers. Seems really smart, but he will explain concepts and say they are "intuitive" when they really aren't and they actually need to be taught. Will put homework up and barely answer his own questions in the answer key but then put the same question on the exam
this guy is way too smart to be teaching economics, which sounds great but he literally lectures all class & does not interact with students at all. He is also kind of mean. Gives way too much unnecessary homework that does not help at all. Avoid! He should be fixing America's economy, not lecturing. I had to drop the class.
This class didn't really flow very well. Basically you have to learn and understand one of his economic papers that consists of 4 different graphs. He doesn't spend nearly enough time establishing the foundational knowledge before building on it. Homeworks are due every other class and they are pretty lengthy and tedious.
Such a difficult class. Homework assignments took hours to complete and did not help teach me the material. Exam study guides ended up being about 25 pages all written when completed. Lectures were very heavy and boring. This man is incredibly smart but is unable to clearly teach the material to the class. This is that one class I always dreaded.
Professor Hayford is one of the worst professors I have had so far. The textbook you use in class is not very good, it's tough read; he helped write the book (meaning he profits from the sales). His lectures are difficult to follow. He assumes everyone knows what he's talking about. Handwriting is tough to read at times. Exams are very difficult
I don't know why Prof. Hayford has such low reviews, he is a great lecturer and helped me understand dense macroeconomic concepts. If you do the homework on your own and come to class with a prior knowledge of the material (i.e. do the reading) his class is super logical. As an Econ major I plan to take ECON336.
I really do not understand why he has such low reviews. Yes there is a lot of HW but if you do the homework, go to class and study what he tells you, you should get a good grade in this class. He literally gives you the questions to study for the test, which are the the same questions on the test. He is a nice guy. I highly recommend.
Hes a very nice man, however you will be put to sleep ever single class, I dreaded coming to the class because it was a huge waste of time and was extremely boring. Take literally anyone else, I wish I wouldve.
Please I am begging you dont take this professor. Dont look at the few good reviews and think you can handle it. This guy is the definition of making life harder than it has to be. Every homework assignment took atleast 2-3 hours and it was even helpful. DO NOT TAKE PLEASE
Professor Hayford is just amazing! I had two classes with him (Econ 304 & Econ 336). No textbook. No attendance. Grades are based on problem sets, two exams, 1 final. Problem sets are easy, answers are directly from lecture notes. Exams are straightforward, questions are from study guides. TAKE His Econ Class!!!
He got excited about economics and his knowledge is impressive. He knows so much that it was a little difficult to keep up with him, but the struggle is worth it. He is open to questions and tries to get the class to ask questions or answer his analysis. ASK questions, he loves it and gets excited about it. Take advantage of his knowledge.
Idk why my comments keep getting deleted when attempting to review Mr Hayford. He is not a fair grader. First test, everyone got below a 75%. Definitely expects everyone to understand his nonsensical explanations on random graphs. Nothing like AP macro in high school. This goes wayyy beyond the material in AP Macro and is very very complex. Avoid!
Prof Hayford clearly knows a lot about economics. Hes very knowledgeable, but he isnt necessarily a good professor. You can tell he cares a lot what hes teaching, but he does not explain things well or make the lectures engaging. The homework assignments took at least 2-3 each and the exams are brutal.
Professor Hayford is so knowledgeable. The problems sets, however, take hours to complete and you receive almost no feedback on them. He tells you exactly what to expect on the exams and I felt as if they were fair. He is very kind and really wants you to learn.
He's a really sweet person, but the lectures are awful, time seems to stop when you enter the room. The problem sets could take 3-4 hours, worst was 2x in a week. Definitely cares about economics, just has a hard way of communicating it to students. Overall, very sweet guy, but would avoid.
Not a terrible professor, just a little bland. The homework (problem sets) he gives you doesn't seem like a lot at first but it can pile up if you don't do it in advance. I took ECON 201 before this, which made the content easier for me to understand, but someone I know took this class without taking ECON prior and did better than me.
Don't get me wrong- super nice guy. Every day was a lecture with a problem set for the week, which could take hours to complete. It was difficult to follow his train of thought sometimes, and that makes learning Macro Econ very hard. Got pushed online halfway through which helped with exams, but in person exams are HARD if you don't study enough
Prof Hayford is really sweet, but his lectures and notes are pretty hard to follow. I took AP macro senior year of high school and still couldnt do well in this class. Youll have to teach yourself and spend hours outside of class doing the problem set. I wouldnt take him if I had another option.
He's a nice person and wants to make sure everyone understands, but his lectures can be very hard to follow. His lectures are most of the time completely different than what's in the book, so outside of class you have to read the book on your own or else you'll struggle. I took AP macro in high school and this class still confused me.
Prof. Hayford is a solid choice for macro, but his delivery is hard to stomach. Further, you are graded by very few things in his class - weekly homework (10%) two midterms (27%) and the final (36%). Though, he has the "normal" grading curve, which makes it slightly easier to get an A, especially due to his unique extra credit system.
Professor Hayford has a wealth of knowledge and is really cool in office hours! The lectures tended to be a slog though. 10% of the final grade is made up of weekly problem sets that took 3+ hours, 54% was attributed to the 2 midterms, and the final was worth 36%. The homework prepares you for the test, and the required readings were interesting.
This class was challenging because his lectures are so unengaging and he gives A LOT of homework. The problem sets are 15-18 pages each week. Problem sets 10%, two mid-term exams 27%, final 36%. Not much wiggle room and not much extra credit.
Prof. Hayford is a nice guy who you can tell wants his students to learn the material. However, the class is very lecture heavy. Pages and pages of notes and numerous graphs to memorize, so if you don't like graphs or flow diagrams, do not take this class. Homework is a lot. Weekly problem sets around 15-20 questions, sometimes A-E on each question
Marc Hayford is extremely knowledgeable on economics. Can be a little bland, but overall relays the information well. Econ is hard in general, so read the book. For every point you do better on the next exam, you get a half point extra credit on the previous exam.
Very knowledgeable about economics, but I found his teaching style hard to digest. Reading the textbook helped me understand the concepts way better than his lectures most of the time, but it's an okay class. 90% of the grade is based on 3 tests and 10% is homework, so really test-heavy but his extra credit policy takes some of that weight off.
Professor Hayford is a very sweet guy and is very knowledgeable about economics. I had him in a lecture hall and it was extremely difficult to hear and understand him. He also has lecture slides posted but usually teaches different from the slides and just writes on the board which can be hard to follow.
He is a nice person, but not a great teacher. He was not flexible at all. His lectures are hard to follow. It is a lot of work overrall. Problem Set every week with lots of problems. Exams are hard.
Homework is given on concepts that have not been taught. Self learning is a necessity.
If you do not do well in lectures, do not take this class! There are 15 Problem sets, and they are worth 2 points each with at least 15 question and sometimes have A-E parts. This professor will not teach you anything unless you like econ, or have taken an econ AP class. The exams are supposed to be like the Problem sets but are hard!!
Super smart guy, but he does NOT know how to teach students. Uses slideshows that are massive, so much material that all blends together and just reads off the slides. Little to no point opportunities or opportunities to learn. Massive problem sets that take hours due each Sunday and are worth no points. Exams are huge and so confusing.
He's really nice and does want to you to learn. He answered any and all questions. The only issue is the class is 100% lecture and it just feels like time stops bc you get bored. He tells you what to study for the exam and the homework (ab 18 questions A-E) take a while. 2 tests and a final. Offers extra credit a couple different ways. Nice guy tho
Prof. Hayford actually made me enjoy macro. Attendance isn't mandatory but I do not recommend skipping because he does go over a lot. There's weekly homework, consisting 10 questions with A-E parts. There are 2 midterms and a final. He does tell you what to study for. He's very kind and knowledgable but his teaching style isn't for everyone.
Prof. Hayford is clearly an incredibly smart man, but his teaching style is not for everyone. Classes are entirely lecture based and it can get so monotone and boring at time. He also gives HW each week that at times can take hours and hours to. What I will say though, his exams are very fair. Do the study guide and you'll be fine.
Professor Hayford is super smart however, I strongly disliked his class. He lectured the entire class from bell to bell not wasting a single minute. I would refresh my email in class because the lectures were so long and boring. He expects you to know so much information and tests are 90% of your grade. Expect to be very stressed around exam time.
Super smart professor but super boring class as well. If you are not good in lectures do not take him. Exams are super difficult but the exercises he tells you to study are exactly the ones that go on the exams. There is also a homework every week. If you take him just be aware that you have to pay attention in class.
The most unpersonal proffesor I have had, he only lectures, and doesn't bother to even pay attention to who comes to class. I would go to office hours to ask for help and he barely explained it and didn't help at all. Exams are based on practice sets but he's very specific with the grading. So boring and old, try NOT to take him if possible.
Hayford's lectures are incredibly long and detailed to the point you do not know what to expect on the exam. On that note, his exams are ridiculous and difficult enough to give these exams to practicing economists. The problem sets are long and exhausting, usually parts A-E. Don't take him unless you want to pull your hair out every week.
This class was verrryyyy lecture heavy. But everything he talks about is posted online. There are weekly problem sets with roughly 1-20 questions. Exams are straightforward and he adds points back on tests if you do better on the next exam. Overall the class was difficult, but I highly suggest this professor if you want to actually learn.
DO THE PROBLEM SETS!! The study guide and tests and basically the problem sets with different numbers. You can tell which questions from the study guide will be on the test if you go to class. The problem sets are a lot of work tho, so make sure you reference the book and clear a lot of time each week.
extremely smart man, but too much for entry level. attendance isnt mandatory, but if you dont go, you will be so lost. i took econ last year in highschool, yet i was still drowning. he curves a lot, which i appreciated. he gives u a study guide for what will be on exam, but it's usually wrong, and there is way more on the exam than the study guide
The class was definitely lecture heavy, but are just slides and can be accessed online. His weekly assignments can be 1-2 hrs long but aren't hard, just tedious. Attendance isn't necessary. Many questions on the assignments are very similar on the tests. He gives study guides also but its just a list of terms and questions from past homework.
He expects you to come into class knowing everything even before teaching. Each week you have a problem set due, these take at least 2 hours to complete if doing the bare minimum. THE WORST PROFESSOR EVER. He doesn't seem to care and blatantly tells us the material we're learning is outdated and not useful in today's world.
I did not like him. His lectures are dead and the exams are difficult because you have to memorize so much. The homework was fine but there are better professors
he is honestly rude in lectures, even when students speak up he will flat out say no and keep rambling on and on with no point in sight. he grades so harshly that i've never gotten a score as low as what he has given me. even if you go into his office hours asking for help or to go over his exams he is defensive and just tells you how you are wrong
Professor Hayford has given up. The class is very outdated and his method of teaching is terrible. Excessive amount of problem sets that teach more than he does during class. Exam grading is off every single time and you have to go to his office hours to get the points you earned. The worst professor I've had at LUC.
dont waste ur time taking him. boring lectures -- not helpful in office hours, does not connect with his students or make an effort
Class is too lecture heavy and he speaks the entire time. Does not connect with students and doesn't communicate outside of class. I sent him multiple emails with questions that I had and he did not even respond. Problem sets are extremely long and tedious.
Honestly idk why other people thinks he is bad, but he is not. professor Hayford is probably one of the best Econ professors at Loyola, he offers problem sets instead of mindtap homeworks, his class may be lecture heavy but he makes them interesting, and his grading system is better compared to other professors.
He is extremely Lecture heavy, each test is on 4-5 units with so much information, also his teaching style is extremely outdated. Stay away from his class if you know whats best for yourself.
the hws are long and time-consuming but straight from his slides, so not hard. he's pretty boring to listen to but he definitely is very knowledgable about the content. the tests are based off of the problem sets and he provides helpful study guides. overall not bad at all just do the hw and study and you'll be fine.
Took Hayford for intro to Macro. He lectures the entire time, very impersonal. Would have preferred not to take him again. But he was the only one teaching intermediate Macro. He assigns massive problem sets for homework. His slides provide a lot of info but it's jumbled. Does not provide required formulas, googling doesn't help either.
Yikes man. Marc really does not understand that this is a REGULAR level econ 202 class. You get a whole history lesson along with a reworked microeconomics lesson and THEN you get all of the macro material and then some... Totally not worth the information overload. Marc suffers from irrational exuberance. Seems like a good guy tho just outdated.
He's alright. You could get a good grade in this class if you go to all the classes because the slides are like a worksheet. It has to be used in conjunction with the graphs that he draws on the whiteboard. Never ever take this class in the morning, your chair will become a comfortable bed. You can go to his office hours if you have questions.
Do your best to avoid this professor. He was not a good teacher and his powerpoints were not very helpful at learning the basic material that you need to know. His problem sets were long and often challenging, however, they are very similar to the exams, and he does post the solutions. If you want to understand the material, you MUST go to class
Professor Hayford has a specific teaching style, but if you engage with it, the class works well. The problem sets are time-consuming but helpful for exams. unstuck ai was great for test prep.
Run. Especially if you are an Econ major looking to actually learn, you learn nothing. He rambles on and literally makes up his own terms and variables that don't exist anywhere else. His exams are word for word the problem set solutions so you have to memorize paragraphs for a good grade while ultimately learning nothing about Econ at all.
The best way to study is through the problem set answer keys but solving the problem sets good luck. The lectures are hard to follow and the slideshows are unhelpful. The problem sets themselves are 12 questions and each question has like 5 parts he also makes them due at midnight on sunday (even tho its a tuesday/thursday class?)
Easily the most disorganized professor I've had. Constantly second-guesses himself, teaches the wrong material, and uses outdated, error-filled slides. Grading is inconsistent—he looks for specific words rather than correct answers. I found six grading mistakes on my exam. Boring lectures, unclear teaching, and he just doesn't seem to care. A joke.
Honestly please avoid if you actually want to learn macroeconomics. his lectures are usually all over the place and make no sense, the way he describes some of the graphs you have to memorize is overcomplicated. there's a curve with each exam, and they're like the problem sets, so it is easy to get an A, but you won't learn anything in this class.
Prof. Hayford is likely the smartest econ teacher at Loyola, if you want to learn you can learn a bunch. He does not answer questions well, but taking notes will guarantee an A for this class. He has a massive extra credit scheme that rewards improvement on tests, three tests and three completion problem sets(which are exactly like the tests).
You can tell he is a very smart person and he is nice. However, his lectures are all over the place and he focuses too much on using specific words rather than providing a right answer. Graphs are a mess and you're expected to memorize them. I really would not take this class again
Three exams, including the final, and you dont get any clear study materials. If you dont attend class, you will be lost, and lectures are super boring and hard to pay attention to. Also, he uses the skinniest marker to write on the board with, and you can barely read it. I would avoid if you could.
Professor Hayford is really nice and I learned a lot in this course. I don't think he deserves the bad reviews. You should definitely go to class if you want to learn but attendance isn't mandatory. Problem sets are exactly like the tests, so not hard to get a good grade.
Hayford should not be teaching. slides/hw are 30+ years old + there is 0 congruency. walked away from this w/ the same amt of knowledge as when I walked in b/c the way he teaches is awful. Throw away class- didn't take up much time except cramming for tests + 30 question hws but huge waste of tuition/time. If u want to actually learn, don't take.
Not a bad professor, just seems kinda outdated. Problem sets are long and tedious, exams are directly from the problem sets so if you take the time to memorize them you should be okay. Didn't really learn much from the lectures though, but if you don't attend them you will not know what's going on on the exams.
Lectures are kind of boring, but straightforward. The class is just graded on 2 exams and a final, which is the same as the homework. He also posts solutions and all the lecture slides so as long as you study a little bit you'll be fine. Don't know why he gets so much hate tbh
Hayford is a very traditional professor and his class consists of heavy lecture and long power points. All he does is read off the screen and doesn't answer questions clearly. His tests require a blue book and most of the material on the test aren't pulled from the notes or study guide.
Hayford is probably the smartest man in the Econ department, however the worst professor. Old lectures and teaching methods. I learned nothing from him. Taught myself the entire course out of the book and his awful problem sets. Take somebody else. You will spend hours memorizing the sets for the exam.
Tests are hard, lectures are unorganized and resources aren't great. But, he is very available and always willing to help. An A is a 90... so it isn't that hard to attain. Come to class, ask questions, study hard and you will be fine.
I didn't want to rate Hayford because I can tell he's a good person who wants us to succeed & clearly knows a ton about economics, but his teaching style is SO hard to follow. It's only lectures & the slides don't have answers, just questions. He teaches WAY higher than a principles level, so if you have no prior knowledge it's too hard to succeed.
