THIS PROFESSOR KNOWS WHAT HE'S DOING. HE IS EXCELLENT, BUT GOT TO PAY ATTENTION EITHER WAY YOU'LL FAIL BECAUSE HE IS CHALLENGED.
Great teacher! I actually looked foward to going to class while my other friends dreaded their chem classes. Work hard and you will pass!

He is the epitome of what teaching chemistry is all about. I would not be surpised if five-year olds could completely understand his lectures because they are so clear. According to some, his course is demanding, but that is what college is all about.
very good teacher!! makles the class interesting but he kills you in his test:(
He's good stuff
Made me love chem (in high school seemed like this mystery that is great to know but impossible to learn). Classes are fun and he's got funny jokes and the stories he uses while teaching make the material stick in your head. Helpful outside of class 2.
He's a great teacher, you WONT get bored in class, he makes it fun. However, his tests are killer. So, learn chem and get bad grades with Kasner, or take an easy teacher but not learn anything!!
He is the greatest professor ever. You will never fall asleep in his class, unless you pledge a frat or a sorority. He has lots of funny jokes and he makes chem fun. I loved the class
awesome professor.. you have to be stupid not to understand his lectures. great sense of humor but killer exams. get on his good side and study to do good in the class
Great Teacher tough exams
He was very difficult. If you don't know chem too well,I would not suggest this class. It was an introdutory course and he went very fast and wasn't very good at explaining problems. He didn't seem to care that half of his class decided to drop the course.
He has clearly mastered teaching this course. If you want to learn chemistry the right way, take it with kasner, if not, take it with anyone else.
Take Kasner! He's the bomb!
Took it over the summer in 4 wks-not a good idea. Kasner is a great prof- knowledgable, clear, and incorporates jokes into the lecture. Tests are generally hard. Final grades are based on a curve - the closer you are to the class avg the better.
Kasner's objective is for most of his students to drop, that way, he'll only teach about 10 students who are pretty advanced in chem. to begin with, vs. most of us who are taking it as an intro. course. Do not take him if you are not already knowledgeable
I don't know how those other people did in his class, but for me, I learned nothing in his class. In my opinion he is a very poor teacher, his exams are way too hard. I would NEVER, EVER take him for any course EVER Again.
It's a gen. chem. class, but for science majors. Hard prof w/ killer exams, but you'll gain a solid chem. foundation.Studying is a must, otherwise you might as well drop the class. i passed w/out being adv. in chem, you just need to study! Recommended!
the other reviews are inaccurate. this is a majors course and requires harder exams to prepare for more difficult classes. this isn't high school people.
I loved his class and learned so much about chemistry. it's because of dr. kasner that i'm majoring in chemistry! I highly suggest his course if you really want to learn chem. Serious learners only!
He's hard, but not too hard. His course requires constant attention, but what do you expect from a major chemistry course?

very nice
Really tough exams, but a good teacher. I took him in the summer and had a lot of material to learn in a short time. Don't take him if your looking for an easy A or have trouble with chem.
I had him for GenChem1+2 freshman yr. I always screwed up the curve and got A's. I thought he was a great prof. Senior year I asked him for a letter of recommendation for med school. He said no, Despite the fact that I aced his class twice. He even made a comment about my weight! A true ****.
Kasner is a very good professor, the only problem: exams of course because they are very hard, unless you study. If you study they are not so hard. So, take him. He is very funny, intelligent, and knows waht he is doing.
Textbook sucks and difficult to take notes since he is not so organized. Material for the class is difficult but he is willing to help, plus he makes everything interesting. I wouldnt have anyone else as a professor for this class. It must be fun to blaze with him.
HES A GENIUS!! Really knows his chemistry! It's a hard course but if you pay attention, you'll get by, but its okay because he's easy on the eyes and looks like a hotter version of Ralph Lauren! Definitely take it!
He is an excellent teacher and the scruffy look works for him. So grumpy though.
HE NEVER HELPS SOLVE A PROBLEM, HIS TEST ARE RIDICULOUS. THE WORST EVER, HE TAKES POINTS OFF FOR LITTLE THINGS. ALL THE OTHER COMMENTS ARE LYING DON'T LISTEN TO THEM PLEASE DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND DON'T TAKE THIS CLASS!!!!! HE IS A TRUE UNIQUE ****!!!
Easiest class i ever took, i study twice before a test and i have 120 average, he curves the tests cuz some people are stupid..well most people are stupid and think he is hard. Class is fun as hell, he has some good jokes, nice guy.
do not take him. he really does not curve the grades as much as you think. whoever wrote that he is a good teacher was lying or either himself. he is a good teacher but needs to understand that some people are not mastering in chemistry.
This teacher sucks really bad. His tests are easy, but he is an absolutely ridiuclous grader. Sig figs are worth more than the content of your answer. O, and pray that you dont get him for your lab instructor. He says that he is a "theoretical chemist" and doesn't touch the chemicals.Bad teacher
If you do not have the brain capacity of Einstein, then you will never pass his class. You sit in class and actually understand everything he says and when you sit down to take the test its so long and difficult that it cannot be completed in the given amount of time.

he is a chemistry teacher that teachs at montclair state university. he is also the chairperson for the department of chemistry. do not become a chemistry major, because the chemistry department is on the 3rd floor and it is too much effort to walk up there. u were warned!
been waiting 7yrs 4 a site like this to share my grief: THIS MAN IS EINSTEIN and the WORST I HAVE EVER HAD. Whoever said he is hot & enjoys his class-are from his planet I guess- I would have committed suicide if I remained in his class.I had a 16 avg!not stupid-thanks. Grad.w/ 3.9gpa-he's the devil
very hard. he is an ass more than but is hard. do not take him if he was the last teacher on Earth!!!!!!!!!!
He is the devil in person. He sucks.
I didn't like this prof. He doesn't seem to care about he students AT ALL, it seemed like he was happy when half of the class dropped his class. His class is very hard, take him only if you really know chem.
I see many lazy students complaining, they all got what they deserved. Kasner is a tough teacher but very helpful if you are trying on your part. Really funny and such a nice person. Of course he won't like you if you don't study at all and cry when you get a sorry result on the test. he is highly recommended!
Cool guy and funny as hell, but moody. This is THE measuring stick for potential chemists. Does jump around a bit and his tests are brutal. It's an absolute necessity to take good notes. Study the concepts and learn to do the easy problems and you should do alright.
Really witty, tells great stories, awesome as a person. However, extremely difficult exams. Highly recommended.
If you are serious about chem take him, hes the man. All bio majors take someone else, Biochem and Chem majors he is a must if you really wanna survive....
worst professor I have ever had . sidetracks very often. His tests are impossible."I like to keep the test averages between 55 and 60" what a dick. wasted 4 weeks of my summer in this class.
Kasner's tests are VERY difficult. Honestly, I had to retake the class and there were at least 10 other ppl there with me. However, he's a very nice man and is always willing to help you out and offer advice if you ask him a question.

Funniest teacher ever, except you must like chem to do well in his class.
Unless you were born with a natural inclination to understanding chemistry, I suggest you listen to all the rumors and save yourself some misery. I didn't! Very challenging class! He's a nice guy and all... but lets face it... Med schools care about what grade you received, not who gave them to you and what he'll give you is a big red Flag.
Great professor, great lecture. Took him during the summer while home from Yale. Students need to get a grip and face the facts of college. Hard work is required to do well in this professor's class, but it's totally worth the effort.
Took him over the summer. Excellent teacher. You will learn and understand the concepts of chemistry after taking his class. However, his tests are hard and you really need to study in order to do well.
I had kasner for gen chem 2 over the summer. The class was easy for the most part. Maybe its just beacuse i took it over the summer, but people on this site seem to make it out to be much worse than it is.
Prof Kasner is the best chem teahcer @ MSU. You will stay awake in his class, but avoid him like the plague if you aren't great in Chemistry. I loved his class, but I did really well.
Prof Kasner is a great chem teahcer . You will stay awake in his class, but avoid him like the plague if you aren't great in Chemistry. Almost all of my upperclassmen friends who had Kasner are or have retaken chem. And if you dont know you should know that the class average on tests are generally 60's, 70's, and 50's. And thats always been normal for his class, as in the past 25 years.
dont take Kasner, it is true that he ha great teaching skills but why would u need that when hes the worst greader there ever was. Avoud that Geek
One of the most brilliant people I've ever had as an educator. IF you're willing to put in the time and energy, his class will benefit you whether you're a bio or chem major. He keeps you attentive with his humor and conveys his vast amount of knowledge to the class without a problem. Highly recommended!
Dr. Kasner was my first science teacher at MSU. He is always very nice, funny, helpful, and intelligent. I liked him for General Chem and I also like him for P. Chem. Although it's a difficult subject he makes it fun and he'll even help you during the quiz if he notices you are doing something wrong. Besides, he is the only teacher for it... :)
He's evil..nice guy but i hate him i tried so hard only to get a C..brought down my whole GPA i never want to see him again!
tests are hard but he helps a lot
His tests are very hard. He does not curve or grade fairly. I studied a LOT for his tests and did horrible. DO NOT TAKE HIM!!! If u do, know significant figures inside and out.
This guy is a ****ing ****bag, I'm probably failing his class...AND I LOVE HIM! Take him if you REALLY want to learn Chemistry. He'll scar you for life and his tests will send a chill up your spine, but he's a GREAT Teacher. Don't stay in the class just to spite him either...you'll still fail even if you are an A student.
Had him in 1983 for gen chem, 1987 for pchem and quantum in grad school in 1990. Nice to know nothing has changed. One of the great constants and a terrific lecturer. My model when I lecture but we still don't agree about sig figs!
one gigantic ****, but he is the man, You have to read the chapters, and he is anal about everything, go bother him if you don;t get something, know all the materal and the steps inside and out. If your not a chem major then don;t take him, take him if you actually want to learn something.
Lets just say i know two people who changed their majors from biology to somthing else after taking Kasner. Kasner is a wonderful professor he knows how to teach and entertain the class to keep us focused however he grades to hard and is really crazy about the significant digits.Take him if u r a chem major or else run as fast as u can
I never worked so hard in my life for a B. Seriously, this will be the hardest professor you'll ever have but he teaches WELL. He may be merciless but you WILL LEARN. Just watch out for Significant Figures, ask for help (even if you think you don't need it), do the work, and STUDY YOUR ****ING ASS OFF. Don't expect to pass any tests.
Compared to other professors tests in the department, you will have to work at least 6 times harder to get the same grade. Keeps the class average around 50. If grades don't matter as much as you want to learn, take him. I don't regret taking him because I know down the line I'll be ahead of others. Great Guy, Great Teacher, but a merciless grader.
DONT TAKE HIM DURING THE SUMMER UNLESS UR CRAZY SMART..... WELL U CAN TAKE HIM BUT U WILL PROABLY FAIL WASTE A THOUSAD DOLLARS AND TAKE THE CLASS IN THE FALL ANYWAY... gREAT TEACHER YOU WILL LEARN ALOT..HARDEST TESTSSSS EVERY...IF U DONT LIKE DOING NEAR IMPOSSIBLE SOLUTIONS THEN DONT TAKE HIM...HAHA DONT SAY I DIDNT WARN YOU!!!!!!!!!!
im not a chem major.. i was a bio major... had him as a transfer student halfway through my freshman semester.. ill be honest.. if u want to pass u better sit next to someone whos a chem major. alot of people changed their majors after failign out of his class... in terms of takign his class or not.. its a bad investment for ur gpa..
Took this course during the summer and enjoyed it very much. Prof was very helpful both in and outside of class and explained the material in great detail. The tests were reasonable, but that was because the material was taught properly. I had majored in engineering at MIT, so my background kind of doesn't give the most accurate easiness rating.
EXTREMELY HARD TESTING! this guy is impossbile and is horrible at giving extra help. Many people drop their major because of him
the tests are hard, but not impossible. I'm failing and all, but i didn't study well enough. If you actually study, not cram, you can get a good grade. but you really have to work hard. and he's a sneaky little thing too, he puts info that you don't need. Fun teacher. the worst grades but my fav class!
the devil, this guy is a living hell, cracks some terrible jokes, and his exams are impossible. BRILLIANT man, really knows his stuff, but the class is absolutely impossible
Great teacher but test sucks period!!! I spent so much time studying for it, and i only passed by a feather with a D. ha and i had an A+ lab, i wonder where that grade went. Really interesting teacher, but his test are hard and SI Digits are a ****. P.S. I believe i lost my scholarship over it, the only freaken low grad
Amazing professor for Summer General-Chem I. I had him in 06, and this guy would do everything in his power to help the students pass. I don't know what the people here are talking about, but his tests were pretty easy as long as you payed attention in lecture. Lab was extremelyyy easy. Easy A if u study + you actually learn the material.
the people who are giving him low ratings are pathetic. The man organizes his class to cater to the students needs. His tests aren't hard at all as long as you do the work. Not to mention he gives you an A right away for just showing up to lab thats 35% ur grade right there. he also drops ur lowest exam grade and gives opportunity for extra credit.
ok...this class is perfect for you if u can teach ur self... his tests are not hard. but anything ur not taught is hard... he doesnt teach and he does have an attitude problem... everyone is right.. lab is extremely easy and tests are not bad..but bottom line just be willnig to teach ur self.. do that and i think you got at least a B.. easy
dont waste your time with this guy...relates everything to food which doesn't help at all. he cannot teach the material.if your not a chemistry wiz, you'll hate this guy and do terrible on his tests. THIS CLASS WAS A GPA KILLER!! even if this guy the your last option, dont take it...wait until you can get another professor who can actually teach.
dont waste your time with this guy...relates everything to food which doesn't help at all. he cannot teach the material.if your not a chemistry wiz, you'll hate this guy and do terrible on his tests. THIS CLASS WAS A GPA KILLER!! even if this guy the your last option, dont take it...wait until you can get another professor who can actually teach.
EXAMS ARE HARD! One of the greatest, most intelligent people! Probably the smartest person on campus! The man is a genius! He tells jokes but he is still hard! Practice practice practice! The lab isn't bad at all, its actually fun. But he is still hard, but totally do-able with alot of dedication to studying and practicing problems he gives.
He is the best. I love his class. He really has alot knowledge about chem. But i would suggest not to take him if you r not a chem person. his exams are really hard!!! but his homework really helps with exam!! he is the best professor i have ever had!!!
He knows his stuff well. He can also be extremely DISRESPECTFUL and sarcastic when you are simply trying to ask for an explanation
The best professor ever. didn't do as well as i hoped in his class, but that is my fault. i would take it over in a second. u can never find another professor as great. doubt that i would have learned as much with any other professor.
Is very respectful and helpful anyone that says otherwise is angry because they got a bad grade and should realize that is their fault not his. he does his best to curve grades. strict yet fair. homework is very helpful. he is available 99% of the time when u need help. class was great loved it. he made it fun, u would never find any1 asleep in it.
Very difficult class. I studied like crazy and barely passed. He actually tells people to drop their major and the class. He also makes fun of students in front of the class. Tests are extremely hard and gets mad when you have a question.
Kasner is the man. His tests are hard and he maybe have some issues with his teaching skills but bottom line, kasner is the man. I love his ****ed jokes and references to food. I just love him in general and if you don't feel the way I do, then you suck.
hard hard hard HAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRDDDDD!!!
Kasner is the best professor I've ever had. He is so hard but you will remember everything you learned in his class. I'd take it again in a heartbeat. I wish I had taken him for Gen Chem.
Easiest and most clear. This guy is not living hell or the devil. Tests are easy if you have logic. I always hear I should have taken Kasner and actually learned something. Don't let that be YOU>
very nice guy but OHHH THOSE EXAMS are torture!!!
Pchem is a hard subject, but he does a good job explaining it, and is fair in his grading. He's got a pretty good sense of humor as well, if you can pick up on it sometimes.
He's hard as hell, but fair.
I don't know what these people are talkin about. This professer is totally useless and he helps who he wants to help-has favorites. He's the only professor in America who consistently generates the lowest class averages and the most zeroes from students. He would do the student body a big favor and retire. He has outdone his uselessness. Can't teach
This guy has too much logic and girls don't like logic. So guess what? His wife left him because of that or may be he was thinking about Pchem during love-making time.He is also kind of freaky..I mean he is very touchy with girls. So if u r a girl..take advantage of that and go to this office frequently for help and sit in the front.good luck..
Dr. Kasner is 1 of the best prof at MSU. In reference to the low averages, Its not his fault pchem is a hard subject to begin with, He is extremely helpful with every1. About the touchy comment that is not true, in this class u earn your grade through alot of work it has nothing to do with gender. The tests are hard but not impossible. Study alot!!
Dr. Kasner is one of the best professors I have had. He is extremely tough & though some may not like his grading/testing style, he forces students to think. This is apparently a problem for some of the people saying bad things about him here. I recommend taking a class taught by him, he is a very nice guy w/a lot of knowledge to offer!!
Kasner is the worst teacher ever. He is full of himself & treats students as idiots. Most likely those great ratings below are posted by himself. I don't know how you could avoid taking his class since he doesn't put his name on the course until all sections are closed. It doesn't matter how much you study, you will end up with a failing grade.
His class is very tough, but it is doable. I managed to get a C in his class, but I had to work my butt off to get it. He is a very tough grader, but you will really learn chemistry. I may have gotten a C, but I feel like I actually learned chemistry from this guy. If you don't mind getting a C or B, I reccomend him. P.S. He's hilarious.
Great teacher w/ great analogies and interesting, very informative lectures. He seems to be one of the few reasons why we don't all die from incompetent doctors, pharmacists, scientists, etc. He helps to make the world a better place. You can't BS through his class, but you're not supposed to anyway.
This man simply does not teach. He'll give you some information on the material but then the rest of class is spent on his analogies, which don't help at all. He always goes on tangents about his skiing trips and ex wives and i think it's just ridiculous. Be prepared to teach yourself at home all the information because you don't learn anything her
Dr. Kasner is awesome. Knows how to teach really well and he really does care about his students. He's a really tough grader, but you really learn chemistry. People that complain are LAZY.
Dr. Kasner is the best professor at MSU chem department. He's very helpful when you ask questions that do not sound like a dumb. Don't complain about the low grade you got, It's not bcuz he's a bad professor.. Spend more time going over the materials then you would be fine.
If you actually would like to learn how to think critically then there's no one better to take. If you would rather spite yourself and only care about your GPA than it's probably best to take someone else (of course that's just dumb). He's an excellent teacher and cares about the students more than any other professor have ever had.
Dr. Kasner is an absolutely incredible professor; by far the best in the Chem department. His teaching is crystal clear, but his exams are BRUTAL. I think I'll pass PChem, but with two exams remaining in the next two weeks, that remains to be seen. However, Dr. Kasner really does want you to pass, and is very helpful both in class and out of class.
He's a good professor, Chem2 is generally hard so don't expect to not go to class and pass the class or wonder why you got a bad grade. He's very helpful during office hour. One thing that's true is that he is BRUTAL about giving points back once he's mark them off and he likes sig figs and units so make sure you write that on his tests.
Kasner is great! He is a great professor, he makes you learn the concepts and understand the chemistry not just doing problems. His tests are hard and he's a hard grader but he's teaching method is very dinamic. He makes you participate and he's always available for extra help. Very helpful too!
Overall he's a great teacher. He teaches you the concept and you have to understand it. He curves the test so if the class average was a forty and you got a sixty, then you basically got an A. He gives amazing lectures so you wouldn't even want to skip his class. He's very open during his office hours too.
Loved him! He's funny and wants you to really get something out of the class. The material can be hard, but that's just the way Chemistry is. He curves a lot so just make sure you are above the class average.
KASNER IS the worse professor ive ever taken at msu
Awesome dude. Funny, entertaining, and really knows his stuff. He is a bit old school but he loves chem and wants students to really grasp the concepts and appreciate science. You have to put in lots of study time to do well, but Chem isn't easy no matter who is teaching. He seems harsh but is actually really nice and always willing to help.
Good Teacher. Knows chem inside and out. Wants you to understand concept. However does not do example problems. Exams are extremly hard. wouldnt recommened taking.
BEST PROFESSOR EVER. He's got some REALLY good teaching methods. If you're not there to learn, don't expect to get an easy A. That's just stupid. Just really stupid. I can't say it enough.
Nice, funny, and talkative guy. The only bad thing is that he goes off talking about other things than spending the lecture talking about the chapters and giving us problems. So you basically have to teach it to yourself.
He isn't boring, which is good ! He goes off topic, and begins talking about his own life and adventures. He knows Chemistry well. Don't EVER skip a class. This stuff is hard, but passable. If you can avoid him, please do so. Take Whitener or Schelvis .
Dr. Kasner is a great teacher, but you must attend all of his classes and do all of the homework on your own outside of class. By no means an easy professor, he will ask you question on the exam that are unlike questions he has gone over in class and he barely gives partial credit- If you try and fake your way through answers you will get no points
Dr.Kasner is no easy professor, but is definitely a man you would love to mentor. He is by far one of the most intelligent beings I have met, and knows his information in and out. He shows tough love to his students, and uses enormous curves for final grades. In order to ace his class, you must think on a high level or hope the class does bad.
Use your resources !!! This guy knows what he's talking about!!!!
This guy is horrible. Do not take him if you plan on applying to any medical or dental program after. He will give you a C or lower because his exams are meant to demoralize you. Not much of a teacher in general, more so concerned about talking about his alcohol addiction in class instead of the content. I now am struggling for chem portion of mcat
Worst professor I've ever had
He is one of the best chemistry professors I have ever taken. He is knowledgable, clear, and fair with grading. He doesn't surprise you in the exams, they are very straight-forward. His lectures are more about relating concepts to real life examples. He knows how to make chemistry interesting.
Worst professor ever. Don't take him.
It will not be easy, by all means. But, if you show up to all his classes, do a couple practice problems, and study the notes he gives, anyone can get an A. Do take advantage of his office hours, or just pop up whenever you want to, because he can definitely help.
(Made a mistake in what class, so a redone comment) CHEM 120 will not be easy, by all means. But, if you show up to all his classes, do a couple practice problems, and study the notes he gives, anyone can get an A. Do take advantage of his office hours, or just pop up whenever you want to, because he can definitely help.
Kasner is amazing at teaching, and perhaps even a master at coming up with examples to relate the exciting world of chemistry to the real world. You'll learn more in Kasner's class than any other MSU professor's. He treats you with tough love and has a good sense of humor. His exams are fair, however he is very tough on grading.
He explained things well with examples. He was always willing to help & cared about his students. I took this class in the summer, so all the material was crammed into 4 weeks and it was more difficult to keep up. You definitely need the textbook. He put up homework problems on Canvas, and his exams are extremely hard. But he curves. Labs are long.
Dr. Kasner was one of the hardest professors I have taken in Montclair State, but he was the best one yet. You WILL learn with him and you will work for your grade.
he's a tough grader but you lear. maybe not the easiest A but it is possible!!
Dr. Kasner is an exceptionally brilliant man BUT that doesn't mean he's a good teacher. He mentions failing the class 10+ times in his first lecture and he's not kidding. His exams are meant to deliberately inflict psychological damage. Best advice for anyone taking him: GO TO HIM FOR HELP!!! Show him you're truly trying and he will pass you.
Kasner is a brilliant man, knows what he is talking about inside and out, however, we are all not chemistry experts. This professor made me question my choice as a Biology major. He's tough but overall a good professor. YOU WILL WORK FOR YOUR GRADE, AND WHAT YOU GET IS WHAT YOU WORKED FOR! Go to him for help & get ready for sleepless nights of chem
Read the textbook before class. will save your life. Beyond my favorite teacher. Wants you to understand. Practice makes perfect, only way you will get an A is do practice problems. Extremley fair, you cant cram the night before for his tests. Alot of material in lecture, but is possible to make it. Super sweet. Would take all over again.
I don't know what Chemistry they are teaching. I am an A / B student and had to retake this class when I transferred to an institution with more "rigorous science courses and faculty", what they taught there was completely different and more relevant to pre-med/MCAT material, this faculty teaches for Grad level Chemistry not pre-health.
he's a great teacher that makes you want to go to lecture. He has a different style to teach chemistry, but even if you don't understand he'll be in his office ready to help anyone.
This professor was the hardest professor I have had at MSU. His lectures are very unclear and he doesn't write anything on the board he just talks and expects you to know what to study. Almost the whole class failed and there was no structure. Need the textbook to teach yourself.
You probably won't pass the class, only because you'll be so distracted by his beauty. His beard is A1 and overall just the hottest professor I've ever had.
I took Chem1 last summer and Chem2 this summer. Got an A in both. Kasner is brilliant - don't listen to reviews that say he's out to get students -- he really does want you to understand the material. Not only knows the material really well himself, but knows how to teach it to others. You have to know how to think analytically to do well.
He is the sweetest man I have ever met! He really makes you work for your grade but it easily accessible and helps a lot during class. He expects a lot from you and ultimately is there to help you so you don't drown in Chem 120. He does not put in your final grade until the end. If you don't show up to class you will fail.
Dr. Kasner is one of the best professors at MSU. His lectures are the best and hes the best absolutely love this guy! Homework its what is expected on the exam and so are homework problems. Hes always in his office to help with whatever!
Professor Kasner is the perfect professor to take if you truly want to devote yourself to the subject and really understand the material. He gives homework as a help for students to prepare themselves for his tests. He really wants you to learn, and wants to make sure that you are really learning, so his tests are incredibly tricky but are passable
He is an excellent professor, ensures you master the material to pass the class. Tests can be tricky, prepare for the worst
He is a nice person, but if you do not know/are not good in chemistry, it is best to AVOID him. He will help you if you go to him but it won't help for the tests- based on random material. He never does any reviews and gives lots of hw to "help", that are completely different from the questions on the exam.
He is a great man and has an excellent sense of humor but his class is the most difficult class I ever have had to take. He is very unclear, and does not teach well. He flies through problems and never finishes them, and is a very tough grader. If you do not know/ or are not very good at chemistry, I would avoid him!!!!!!
Lectures aren't mandatory but if you do not go, you will have a tough time understanding him. His exams were not hard but the way he teaches does not help prepare you for them. He expects you to come in as a genius and knowing the basics. Beware of his grading, he grades by points so keep track of them. Drop out as soon as you can and take it again
do not take him!!! you will fail
ANNOYING, tf is he on. Relates the work with food, animals, u name it which he think is helping but its really is not.
Dr. Kasner will give you his time to help you. Even if you come NOT during his office hours. Very caring, and want you to do well. Show that you are trying, do your homework, do your part!! if you are not doing the work, sorry. But really, very knowledgeable, funny, and passionate about chemistry! LOVE!
Do not take this professor if you are looking for an easy A for your med school application. Kasner is a great professor who cares so much about his subjects and his students. He will teach you not to pass but to actually understand chemistry. I am taking his class again for the next semester too. Also get ready to hear some jokes.
HONEST FEEDBACK. If you're a BIO/CHEM/BIOCHEM major, I recommend taking his class and TAKE IT SERIOUSLY. (Do HW, study as hard as you can). He very cares for his students and want them to succeed and understand the problems, not only just do the problems. Med schools aint easy and his class is just a training of your studying habit. TAKE HIM.
Don't just expect to go to Med schools with a Straight A transcript but knowing nothing. Kasner makes you know things but still getting an A if you take his class SUPER SERIOUS. Nothing is easy in Science major. Bare with it.
Dr. Kasner is one of my favorite professors in MSU. The class is difficult and the exams are brutal. You have to study a lot of you want to pass his exams, but if you get good grades you will become a master in chemistry. Not to mention, his extremely good looks and great insults makes it easy to pay attention in lecture. He is very entertaining.
He is beautiful man. I did loved his class but he very hard. He look like Arthur. He is nice. He knows to read. I like his glasses. They are nice.
Great professor and very fair. This class is not an easy A, do well and you will have a better understanding in chemistry and be well prepared for the DAT/MCATs. Visit him during his office hours. He is quite helpful and wants you to do well in the course.
The chemistry department at Montclair is awful, Dr. Kasner is the exception. He's tough but he really wants you to learn. He had 7 extra help lectures this semester (outside of normal lecture hours) plus he's available in his office before and after class. Very tough class but he gives a big curve.
Daddy Kasner's the best. Took him for 120 and 121 and wished could teach me the rest of chem. Dude's a clown and curves on a very favorable system (as long as you stay above average). Do the homeworks, go to his office hours when you have questions (usually always there.. don't be shy) and you'll come out with a good grade.
Professor Kasner is an amazing professor. So clear and really wants you to do well. If you pay attention and do the homework you will do well.
Great prof for chem majors
Love Dr. Kasner. His teaching style is mostly by doing examples. Exams are hard and open-ended, but if you master the concepts, you'll be fine. He also loves to crack jokes, so lectures were never boring.
Avoid at all costs for your and your GPA's sake. He is the worlds toughest grader, you could get 99% of a 10 point question right and he will take off 9 points for that 1%. Then he is totally unwilling to work with you to get back any of your points. His tests are ridiculously hard and he literally says in class that he wants to trick you.
What a terrible professor! Rude and doesnt want you to do well
Horrible.. dont recommend him! Youll fail his class! He doesnt example well.
HE HAS COMPLETELY CHANGED. HE NO LONGERS GIVES NOTECARDS ON EXAMS AND HIS CURVE IS ONLY 20 POINTS. HE MAKES HIS EXAMS SO THAT YOU GET A LOW GRADE ON THEM AND SOMEHOW LEARN FROM THAT. OUR CLASS AVERAGE IS A FAILING GRADE. DO NOT TAKE HIM.
Never tells you what your grade is until you fail. I literally have no idea how he is still teaching. He never posts test grades and makes up some confusing way of grading the class after he watches the majority of them continuously fail. Take someone else and ignore all of the positive reviews if you actually care about your grade in the class.
Kasner is a tough Professor in order to actually pass this class you must read the chapters and complete his homework. With him you will learn a lot he is always available to help out and provides extra lecture sessions. Every semester his exams change, beware of the final exam. The final exam Is the hardest out of all the other exams.
really just terrible. makes you feel like you know the material then takes tons of points off of the exam. This was my first C ever so believe me.
acts like hes protected by tenure. Lots of students try in his class to get a good grade and still end up with bad grades because the class is so test heavy and the tests are a nightmare. DONT TAKE!!!!! He is honestly not worth the bad grade just avoid him!!!!!
I had professor Kasner for chem 120&121. Not going to lie, his class is very difficult. However, if you do the homework and go to his office hours you will do fine. Took me a while to get used to him and his exams (althouggh you can never get used to his exams) but it was worth it.
I love Dr. Kasner. Hes funny and his lectures are not boring at all. Hes very helpful in his office hours. The course is difficult and the tests are hard but if you practice the homework and write down steps to problems you should be fine. Go to the office hours as much as possible, it will help.
He does not care whatsoever about his students, the guy is protected by tenure and he knows it. Never posts grades up online and he rushes through every lecture expecting you to teach yourself every single thing... HORRIBLE PROFESSOR DO NOT TAKE UNLESS YOU WANT YOUR GPA TO DROP
He is the worst professor ever. I heard it was his last semester teaching, and he made it a mission to fail almost everyone in the class. I attended every lecture and did not understand a thing because he did not teach at all. The average for every test was a failing grade. He openly says he is trying to trick you. DO NOT TAKE HIM.
worst professor. barley explains anything and if you don't understand, he gets upset.
Kasner doesn't provide homework, its more for you to work on. Kasner does teach and he teaches well, it is always up to you to decide what you want to do with that information. He was amazing and explained chem so well. He averages out test grade and unless your not focused and don't study, you won't pass. Everything you learn from the beginningA
Kasner is a funny human don't take him too seriously. I took him 3 times for Chem106/120, got A's in both. He "scares" people into dropping to prove how HARD the class is, but not impossible. Focus during lectures, ask "dumb" questions and he is ALWAYS available outside of class. Grades are curved every time based on highest score even if very low
You will learn
The class is decently challenging, but the professor's thorough explanations are very helpful. Attending lectures and using the textbook are key. For exam prep, ChatGPT and Unstuck AI were great study aids.
