Hey helps out alot. If your in his class and you go and take his test and do not do well you will probably still recieve a C+ at the least. He is funny and makes time pass quickly and explains stuff clearly
he's a genuinely nice guy but a difficult professor. he has terrible handwriting and moves quickly but he's pretty funny so its hard to hate him. he assumes many things are "fairly intuitive" as he puts it and sometimes they really arent but he likes to help you out so see him if you have questions.
he moves through material pretty quickly but explains it well.
Great professor, knows exactly what he is talking about and follows the text so studying is made easier. spends time taking questions etc., tests have a big curve and are easy. fun professor, reason why im minoring in economics.
A great teacher, with tons of information, and real life examples that makes concepts easier to inderstand. Also uses a very nice grading curve. The only downside is he has horrible handwritting, and the tests can be hard, but not too bad
Great professor, very engaging and energetic knows the subject matter very well I would recommend taking this class to anyone. tests are challenging but if you study your fine, good curve as well.
amazing teacher. he's really intelligent and explains the concepts thoroughly. he makes you smile by just watching him. take the class.
Great professor, manages to illustrate all economic concepts with beer and pizza. Great sense of humor and manages to get the information across clearly. Occasionally makes mistakes, but overall a great teacher.
He's definately good at his job. Not only does he know exactly what he's talking about, but he's a great teacher and keeps us interested. I love the way he talks...he has like an amazing vocabulary.
This guys is the man. Very fun to lisen to and he knows his stuff. The first test is the easiest and it gets a little harder. If you stay on top of things youll be fine!
Really helpful!
Very good professor. No homework, just optional reading. 3 tests- they are hard but if you study you're fine. Overall a really good class, learned alot.
Great Professsor. Very approachable and really intellegent. Attendence wasnt mandatory and there were 4 tests that made up your grade. He gives you practice tests before scheduled tests so if you do those you'll be fine
Good profesor, gives really good clear notes that help you to understand the info in the book better. Only 3 tests for the semester, but each covers a lot of info, not difficult if you study everything and use practice tests he gives. Doesn't care if you're in class or not,but i'd recommend going b/c its not that boring & you will understand better
Great Professor. Very clear and informative. Notes provided were always clear. Didn't even have to read the text. Pay attention in class (when you feel like going) and do the practice tests, and you'll be golden.
Take any class this guy teaches, you will love it.
Great instructor, clearly enjoys what he does. Makes it enjoyable for you. Great personality and sense of humor, would recommend him for any economics class. Lots of reading, and just three exams. Great guy!
Marc Law is the man. He explains things clearly gives great practice tests and doesnt take attendance. He is funny and relates alot to beer and pizza. Although his handwriting is tough to read, if you pay attention in class there is no need to do the readings because things are explained well. Take his class.
Law is a good man and an entertaining teacher. He knows his stuff and can explain it inside out. Great teaching style and willingness to help. Be wary of slight condescension if you don't know your algebra and other remedial things like the law of demand. He will still help you out though.
LOVE THIS MAN! I have no interest in economics but he makes it easy to follow. Curves grades. Graded on three exams with no cum. final. Attendance in not require but if you go to class you dont need to read the book and will do well on the exams.
Great teacher. Has a good sense of humor and conveys the course material in a very clear manner. Go to class and take the practice tests and youll do well. never used my textbook.
Marc law is the man as was probably said before. Tests were a little difficult I needed to do the readings and pay attention, but he makes his lectures interesting. He's my advisor and never gets back to me, if I see him he's very brief in advice, but he's still very knowledgable but don't expect much if you go to see him.
Excellent professor. Was able to keep a large lecture class interested and engaged in something of a dry subject. Great sense of humor, and strong explanatory abiities.
Marc Law loves talking about beer and pizza... too much, it really makes it hard to take the class seriously. I probably went to class 7 times during the semester, but instead just read the book occasionally. Turns out that was a lot easier to read than his self-proclaimed chicken scratch on the board. Tests are all MC, really easy course.
I had no interest in this class until I actually took it. Prof Law is very fair and presents you with all the information you need to pass his tests. He gives you two practice tests in advance for the tests which some questions are even exactly on the exam. The only grades are three exams and no final or homework or quizzes. Definitely worth taking
Lectures are crystal clear and all material is covered during class that you need for tests. If you miss a day of class, read the text book.he follows it closely. He gives practice tests on his website w/ some exact questions that'll be on future tests. For Macro Econ, the grade is 3 tests, nothing else. i was scared at first but very managable i fou
Lectures are usually very clear. That being said, he flies through the material and it becomes more a race to get everything written down than actual learning, made even more challenging by his awful handwriting. He'll answer questions but in a very condescending manner. Despite all this, he has a nice grading scheme (e.g. An 85-89 gets you an A-)
He's accent is extremely funny
He's a great teacher. Really explains material clearly. It will really help if you read the chapter prior to the class and then take notes. I didnt look at the book to study for exams. Just rewrite notes and study the practice exams. Only three exams and no extra credit, but a good teacher and a funny guy.
I liked his style of lecturing...he was pretty entertaining. He's passionate about the topic and usually very clear. He also fit in jokes every once in a while.
Awesome teacher and very entertaining for a 8:30 class. He expects a 25% in class participation grade though in a 50-60 person class. seems a little ridiculous to me but not much i can do about it
I found his class to be very difficult. I could not learn the material very easily. It is very entertaining though and is passionate about Econ. His classes is based off of three test grades which is hard if you are not strong with multiple choice. There are tutoring sessions you can attend which is nice and helpful!
Marc Law is a good guy. If you have taken econ in the past this course wont be that bad. If you havent then I would suggest you read and show up to class. If you do this you will be fine. Probably...
He was very passionate about economics. Lectures were very clear. Grades were based off 3 exams and that was it.
Grade is based solely off of 3 exam grades that aren't curved. However, his final course grade has a built in curve which is nice. Just read the book or go to the lecture and you'll do fine. Do the practice tests since many of the questions are the same on the actual test. Oh and he likes talking about beer and pizza...
This man is a legend. Attending his class even in the bitter cold is fun. One of the few people who can keep the class attentive for 1.25 hours. His clarity and thought process is superb. His dry humor is enjoyable too and his grading curve is pretty good. Take this class!
He is a good teacher and a really interesting guy when you get to know him. However his micro-theory class is very tough. It is very cal intensive and he doesn't break down the math. He just expects you to know it.
I found his class to be very difficult. I took it the first semester of my freshman year. With that being said, he is very intelligent and clear. He knows his stuff. He can be funny at times. 3 Tests which are hard if you struggle. Go to office hours and review sessions. If you get below a 70 on the 1st test, drop the course.. seriously
Material is no joke. Brush up on your calculus and take good notes. Law is clear with his explanation but often assumes the material is easy naturally. He races through the lectures so pay attention. He gives a generous curve so hold on to the end; he's a good professor
Marc Law is the best econ professor in this school. If you pay attention in class you will pass.
It's hard if you don't go to class or read.
He is a really smart guy but is also very condescending. He just assumes everyone gets it and if you don't you must not be going to class or you are an idiot. Know your Calc and pay attention. It is hard to fail the class with his curve but that doesn't mean you will do well.
This is my favorite class at UVM so far, Professor Law is super funny and his expectations are fair. If you do the reading and go to class you will get an A. Participation is 20% of your grade but there are plenty of opportunities to participate. Added bonus, you don't have to buy a textbook, he posts all of the readings on BB.
In my opinion Marc Law is the best professor at UVM. He is incredibly intelligent and is very clear in his lectures. If you do the reading, take lots of notes and talk once or twice a week you should do fine. Cuts through the BS and gets right to the point. Fun guy to talk to if you go to his office hours. No textbook or homework either.
He is good. You can definitely see how well he knows the materials and the course. No PPT only hand writing in this class. You'd better take class and do the homework and you will easily get a not too bad grade.
Great professor. Has a deep understanding of the material and knows how to explain things in ways that we all understand.
Honesty, this was one of the hardest classes I have taken at UVM. There are 3 tests that are not curved and they all are difficult. I recommend dropping the class if you do not do well on the first exam, because it only gets harder. Attendance isn't mandatory but I would go if you want to understand the material the slightest. Just dont take this
I found this class to be very difficult. There are only 3 tests that your grade is based off of and these tests are very difficult. He gives you practice exams before the test but they are significantly easier than the actual test. He only has hand written notes with messy handwriting that is very hard to see. This class is not worth the headache
The teacher knows what hes talking about, but assumes you know everything hes teaching you already. He write in chalk in a huge lecture hall and has terrible handwriting. The exams are also really hard and are basically the only grades. Wouldn't recommend this class if you don't need it.
He is a really good professor who knows what he is talking about, however, his class is VERY difficult. Lectures are very deep and sometimes it is hard to remember everything.
This is a great class, but it's not a walk in the park. Be prepared to be treated like an adult--no power points on blackboard to make it easy to miss class, no obvious throwaway choices on the exams. Dr. Law doesn't coddle his students, and it's refreshing. I got an A but I worked really hard for it.
You're grade in this class is based off of just three tests and homework. The tests are 40 questions each, so if you get four wrong, say goodbye to your A. In the second test, my class averaged a 40. While the class may be very difficult, Law is an inspirational lecturer with a charming personality and witty sense of humor
It is difficult to do well in this class because your whole grade is based on 3 tests. I took AP macro in high school so I did have experience with the material and I still found the class challenging. However, I would still die for Marc. His lectures are clear and he is incredibly intelligent.
As long as you go to class, read the textbook before the tests, and study and you have nothing to worry about
Marc is not the easiest professor. You need to go to class, be familiar with the textbook, and study for the exams to do well. 84% of the final grade is based on 3 exams, which are not easy but very doable as long as you learn the material. Marc also uploads 2 practice tests for each test which are similar difficulty wise to the exams.
Great course, great professor. Professor Law explained the content in an extremely clear way, even the more difficult concepts. He made heavy use of real-life examples to illustrate points, which were informative and often very interesting. Great lecturer, relatively light on homework while still teaching effectively. Strongly recommend.
Professor Law is one of my favorite professors. He is really passionate about Econ and he conveys that to his students. This class is definitely hard but he works to make it understandable. This is much more math-heavy than his other classes but he still tries to keep it fun. He's also super good at doing online classes which is nice.
Professor Law is very nice, smart, and funny. I really enjoyed his class, and I'd definitely take more classes with him in the future.
Professor Law is extremely knowledgeable and does his best to make the course content engaging. Will definitely be taking more courses with him!
I suffer from severe general anxiety which is exasperated by dyscalculia. I usually have a few anxiety attacks during math intensive exams. I managed to pass this class and I am crying from happiness! The professor offers a generous curve, so if you thought you couldn't do it, you can! Just take lots of notes and do not be lazy in this class.
Professor Law is a solid choice for class. The lectures can be a little dry at times but I believe that is more the subject matter than the professor. He is very good at answering questions and being available outside of class. His exams are not super hard but you do need to study to get a good grade.
Professor Law is a great professor for econ. He really explains the material well- although I do recommend doing the reading beforehand just to have a head start. Lectures all through class, but any other professor would do the same. He definitely made me understand economics better than most would.
Super enthusiastic but very lecture heavy, so if you miss them the tests will be hard. Doesn't give too much homework and is very clear about when tests are and what they will cover. If you go to class and take notes you will be fine
Grade is only made up of four sections: 3 exams and homework. Exams are super hard and the class average on all of them this semester was around a C. Professor Law is obviously agitated when people ask him questions in class and makes students feel uncomfortable asking for help. Definitely take macro with another professor if you can.
He's fine. Very dry lectures but he explains things well. Tests are much harder than the homeworks but not terrible.
Really thorough lecturer. The material itself wasn't super interesting, but that wasn't his fault. There are only three exam grades and an overall homework grade, so be careful and study hard. Overall a very dependable professor that knows his stuff.
He's a really good professor and explains the material super well, and in a succinct way that makes it easy to do the HWs and tests as long as you show up to class. Either make friends or don't miss any lectures--he won't give out lecture notes for a class you missed. Overall a great guy and professor, take this class with him.
As someone who got credit for EC 11&12 from high school...this was hard.(The concepts themselves weren't bad but brush up on ur calc) HW 20% get 100% if turned in 80% --> 3 tests each 3 questions u NEED to study for them Makes friends bc professor Law doesn't give out notes, office hours are accessible! Don't worry I will be changing majors :)
Professor Law is incredibly knowledgable and a fair grader, but I still found this class to be very challenging. I always went to class and took notes, but the volume of material covered is overwhelming. If econ isn't ur strong suite, you aren't gonna slide by without putting in a lot of extra studying.
Professor Law is a great lecturer and doesn't bombard you with too much homework. He sets students up for success on the tests, though lectures can be a bit boring. He is actually a very funny guy, but the content can drag. I recommend studying for tests extra early if you plan to do good. I 100% recommend this class
Professor Law is 100% my favorite professor so far. He is the sweetest man, and you can tell how much he cares. Classes are all lectures with a ton of content, and he rarely gets off topic, but he explains everything very well. Exams are about 80% of the overall grade, but the other 20% is HW assignments which are very easy to get good grades on.
Professor Law is a great professor. He explains everything very well. He is a very kind man who is enthusiastic during his lectures. This class is very lecture heavy. Homework is easy to get done; it is on achieve. Tests are online but timed. Although, they extremely challenging and worth a lot so extra studying is necessary.
An absolute legend who cares about what he teaches. Take good notes because his lectures are key to doing well in class.
To be honest no other professor seems to have as much passion in what they're teaching than the man MARC LAW. Honestly, there are moments in class where I'm just sitting just wondering how this person can enjoy teaching so much. He's a very caring person and will always try to help even if it means fighting Mike Tyson himself. Point is, he's great.
Marc Law was a great professor and a great person overall, but I hated how he structured this course. I took EC 160 with him Spring Semester of 2023, and the grade of the entire course rested on three exams and participation. The only way you could actually participate is by doing the lengthy readings. However, his lectures were quite interesting.
Highest paid econ prof and it shows. Cares about teaching, no boring textbooks, just interesting articles that he summarizes really well in class. I think you can skate by the participation grade by showing up and seeming engaged. If he releases the slides that's really all you need to do well on the tests, otherwise though take good notes.
Law is a really great teacher. He's genuinely just really into talking about and reading economics. He has personally met and engaged with some of the authors whose work he assigns for reading, and as such is highly knowledgeable of the material. Enjoys talking about questions or topics outside of what's covered in class. Really good guy
marc is cool! as long as you pay attention in class, do the homework, and study for exams you'll do fine. i am HORRIBLE at economics but i felt pretty ok at the end of the semester.
Law is such a good professor! Super passionate so I loved watching him teach. I was unfortunately SO bad at Macro but he was very helpful during office hours. His lectures are easy to follow if you pay attention. Weekly homework that's not hard. 3 Exams, but he provides practice tests with each which I recommend utilizing
marc is a great professor and lectures are pretty easy to understand. each exam (3 total) is worth 27% of your grade and the rest is homework i think. average for the exams were 80, 69, and probably 80-85 for the last one (he didnt release the final average). practice exams were helpful, especially for the last exam. no extra credit or anything.
I love Marc Law. Very energetic, very passionate about what he teaches and his criteria are very straightforward. This class was really interesting because he explained things really well. 10/10 would take a class with him again.
Mr. Law is an amazing professor. It always felt worth it to go to class because I learned so many things. He was able to explain complex topics clearly and understandably. He found ways to connect the class to real-world events and scenarios, which made what we were learning feel relevant. I never felt bored in class as he was always fun and upbeat
I would 100% reccomend him as a professor.
Excelle prof. Very engaging lectures and fun to follow along.
Absolutely amazing lecturer. will give brief summaries of previous classes, so missing one every once in a while won't hurt.
such an organized and driven professor, super easy to stay engaged in the course content if you show up consistently. he is a wonderful lecturer and explains concepts really well. I will be taking a course with him just to have him as a professor again.
Professor Law is evidently organized and knowledgeable. He demonstrates an ability to effectively convey information in his lectures. He is benevolent and, at times, entertaining. However, exams make up an immense component of one's overall grade; they are identical to the homework, but he does not offer much in the way of supplemental material.
