An awesome teacher. A funny guy, one of Hofstra's best.
SO GREAT! I took him twice in back to back semesters. One of my favorite professors yet. Funny, interesting, and you really get into discussions. You def don't want to sleep through this one. I used to share a Latte with him at the Cafe on the Quad.GREAT!
very tough grader. i got a C and i did not once get a C in that class
Very smart guy. Has long, open discussions in class, very relaxed guy. Hard grader.

very funny guy but he grades the toughest at hofstra. he needs the papers to be exactly what is set in his head, or you will be lucky and get a c-
I think he is a hard grader but he is funny.
Fun class, not too much work, just basic essays and a few assignments just to be prepared for a discussion. Very funny.. cool guy.. TOUGH grader
LOVE HIM..doesn't grade hard, his papers are all 2pages long and there is only like 5 the whole smester, awesome guy sooo funny you will love him too!
Essays are short and sweet, but DO THE READING! He flips out if you can't talk about what you've read. Really cool guy too.
BEST teacher I've EvEr had!! I am a senior now, and I had him for freshman english2, he made the class a JOY to go to (and trust me I DESPISE class). He should seriously be a comedian. I wish him all the best!
TOUGH GRADER!! but papers can be re done. Funny tho. really nice too.
he is a sweet guy, willing to help but he is a impossible grader, the best paper i ever gave in my mom wrote and i got a c-, and my mom wrote it for me and she is a english teacher. great class fun and its a good time but most people will not get over b
awesome teacher, fun class. hard grader but does re-writes. definately recommend the class!! do the reading or he will get mad.. often lets out early
HE is such a fun professor! Take any class you can with him!
this class is fun, and he also teaches at Adelphi. I heard that he's great there 2.. take a class with him

Great Teacher, very helpful and appreciated creativity.
He is very easy to understand.
profesor was a hard gradewr mispronuced your name does not like guys
im gonna marry him. im taking english 2
Marc is the man, man
hes a hard grader and he doesnot help out as much he tells you what u did wrong but makes no suggestions so u feel like ur left with nothing to work on.
Can't say I wanted to take this class. Prof. Prinz is awesome though. He makes funny nicknames up for students he likes and is not afraid to make wisecracks back to the wiseasses who he seems to favor. He is kind of a hard grader, but its worth it. If you have to take english I HIGHLY recommend taking it with the Prinz.
Prof. Prinz was an excellent teacher. I enjoyed going to class. He is easy to work with and grades like a professor should. Party on Prof. Prinz .... this buds for you...
awesome teacher -- he's hilarious -- funnest class i've ever taken at hofstra -- wish i could take him for something again!
He's the man, I had him qhen i came in as a freshman in 04. That comment is right about him making up nicknames. He's the man about it though. He is a hilarious professor. He makes boring subjects rather funny. He's not afraid to talk back to the students, you never know what he's going to say...good times
He is by far the coolest teacher I've had at this school this far. Funny, understanding, thorough, to the point. Slightly hard grader, but easy to get a B on the papers. 5 papers in the semester, very easy pace. He teaches both ENGL 001 and 002, take him for both if you can! Thats what I'm doing.
Prinz is a ridiculous man. His class is the funnest and the only one I will get out of bed for and be excited about. If you don't particularly enjoy English, take him! And don't worry, he makes fun of EVERYONE, not just you.
Made the class verrrry fun...as long as you go to class and do the papers you'll do fine. He's a bit of a hard grader, but that's because he wants you to think outside the box. Very entertaining!
He's a hard grader, but very interesting to take. He doesn't tell you what to write about which makes it a little harder. He's a pretty fun guy though, and he makes class interesting. I'd take him again if I had to, just pay attention to the type of writing he likes and you'll do fine :)
Prof Prinz is by far the funniest english professor i've ever had. He'll never remember your name, so don't take it offensively. You'll talk about the CRAZIEST things, class is NEVER boring. Make sure you do your work though, it's pretty easy. 5 Essays and you can rewrite the first 2. It's definitely worth taking, he's the greatest!
Take Prinz for English Comp. He will blabber hysterical nonsense in spurts throughout the class and always keeps a great, light learning environment. People complain about his grading, but he's just improving your writing, and he allows re-writes. Look forward to nicknames and being mocked, and hearing the phrase, "Sit up straight! Scoliosis!"
A great and fun professor to have. Just don't take anything too personally; you'll be fine. The work is easy, maybe a paragraph to a page for homework and five essays that have to be 3-5 pages. Very simple. Some say the grading is strict, but I have never had a problem with it. I have him for next semester too. Is anybody alive out there tonight!
Great professor, funny as****. I learned a lot from him and class was always relaxed and entertaining. Funniest teacher ive had here and i would recomend him to everyone, for serious.
Be prepared to hear "SCOLIOSIS!" Extremely nice guy, really funny, classes are always entertaining and full of back and forth commentary. Papers are not hard. Write a good paper and youll get a good grade. Allows rewrites for the first 3 papers. The last two are one shot due to time constraints. Recommend him to anyone.
awesome! best professor so far, im taking him for wsc 2, hes so funny and helpfull with your papers, some of the topics r a lil abstract, but just ask and hes more than willing to help
Great teacher, funny and really interesting. Kind of a hard grader but you can rewrite a paper to boost your grade. Take him if you can!!!!
Great. So awesome. I took him two semesters in a row. Very funny guy.
Don't take this professor he is terrible
he is one of the funniest teachers on campus great for freshman to enjoy a class but not the best if you want to learn a lot about english everyday
he is such a funny teacher you will have a great time
Horrible professor. Took the class through CW Post, Hofstra wouldn't take the credits, so retook it with Prinz. Fun class, often has nothing to do with WSC at all. Very unclear grading policy, and is unable to explain grades when asked. Avoid him unless you're good at getting on professor's good sides.
Prinz is very unclear about his grading policy and the advice he gives on papers doesn't help. He will tell you your wrong, but won't offer any suggestions to correct the problem. He definitely picks his favorites in the class. Didn't matter if i worked real hard on a paper or didn't even try always got the same grade.
i've never laughed harder in my life. great person. don't take him if you want an A though. you won't get it. i got a B+ and i do really well in english. wasn't happy with his grading but can't say i didn't have fun
Very funny and crazy. Difficult grading policy however simple and easy work load.
While it may be a breath of fresh air to discuss music and society, this professor takes it back to irrelevant decades with minimal direction and means of discussion. While showing up for class may not be at the top of his list, his grading is absurd and he expects far too much with no guidance as to what you need to write about.
I learned absolutely nothing from this class. No rubrics of assignments, and no assignments for the essays. You can basically write about whatever you want. I feel that the grade received is based on his personal feelings about the topic. There is no feedback whatsoever on the few essays. However, the class itself was fun and interesting.
I had Prof Prinz for my first semester. WORST TEACHER. Assigned five essays for the entire semester but never gave written-down directions. He "described" and made up the directions. He was so unclear. When I got my papers back he said the paper, itself, was excellent, but I didn't follow HIS directions. He never helped me, nor did he care.
Loved him! he's insanely funny and crazy. definitely not a boring class. Guidelines for papers are somewhat sketchy though. never got more than a B but, he is pretty fair.
Absolutely hilarious! Guarantee he will keep you laughing the whole semester. There was only five papers for the whole semester and those are the only grades, so the class is overall pretty easy. His grading is very hard but he just wants you to write to the best of your abilities.
He's a funny guy but a strict grader. I found the key to getting A's on his papers was to basically format my papers exactly how the book formatted the examples we went over. If you can do that the class is easy
Very likable guy and someone I would hang out with. However, the class is extremely hard in the fact that he isn't clear on the rubric for the essays. You can work really hard and still only receive a B or C on the papers. The class will keep you entertained, however, as he is a very funny man if you have a good sense of humor.
I really wish I never took writing comp with him. Even though he was a funny teacher, we didn't learn anything at all in the class. He was a hard grader when he gave no guidelines for the essay at all. If you struggle with English.. do not take him.He will not help you at all.
he thinks hes really funny
Funny guy. He knows what he's doing. Always ask questions. Proofread your essays carefully. Not a hard class.
Prinz is hilarious if you can stand his cynical humor. He makes class fun and engaging, interjecting with plenty of comic relief to keep the students interested. He's very clear at explaining concepts and assignments and encourages a lot of class participation. Be careful that you proofread your essays though- he hates typos!
I did not like him as a teacher at all. Took writing comp with him and learned absolutely nothing. All he did was make jokes all class and never took anything seriously, I wish I took writing comp with a professor that actually took the course seriously and was helpful.
He is a cool guy, and his class is entertaining. Unfortunately, he does not give a rubric or a prompt for the three essays that your grade is based off of. This means that you have no idea what is expected of you, and it makes writing his papers a hit or miss.
Professor Prinz is funny and only assigns four very short essays for the semester. However his grading is inconsistent and based off of his imaginary rubric. There are no guidelines there for grading is hit or miss and is usually a miss.
Prinz is the best kind of professor. He's funny but he still teaches really well. Some people say he's a tough grader, but if you really listen to his feedback and work on improving your writing, it isn't too hard to get an A. Class is always interesting and funny and homework is light and easy.
While I enjoyed professor Prinz outside of class, inside the classroom is was difficult to learn college-level writing skills. He assigned essays and changed his guidelines as he went along. His feedback was not helpful at all, sometimes made rewriting the essay even worse.
He makes no sense. He's a great person but he'll assign papers and give no direction whatsoever and claim that's not what he wants. For example, he would want an descriptive essay, but then later said he wanted a paper that had meaning that used description. Overall you write four papers for his class and doesn't care what you write.
Professor Prinz is a funny person and makes the class entertaining however, he is an awful professor. His grading policy is extremely ambiguous, harsh, and is based almost completely on his personal opinion. Additionally,he gives unclear verbal directions and does not clarify them when asked.
Professor Prinz is a great guy. When it comes to being a teacher, he does not teaching what so ever. He has a very unclear grading policy and very few people get As and Bs papers. When he gives feedback it's very broad and unclear and clearly it doesn't help much. WSC classes should not be a class where you are struggling to get a B or above.
Professor Prinz, is a great guy. In the classroom though is another story. His grading policy is so unclear. On one of my papers I got a C+ so, I re-wrote it and on the re-write he gave me an F. When you ask for clarification he doesn't clarify whatsoever. You shouldn't be struggling to pass this class or get a B. Avoid taking him if you can.
He is a nice guy and easy grader; he knows his stuff but his grading is not clear at times.
Prof. Prinz was chill at first, but I asked him for advice on a paper topic he didn't like and started giving the worst attitude. He also brought it back up when I forgot to do my homework. So yeah don't take him if you don't like attitude.
Extremely tough grader. Just because you do a revision doesn't mean you're going to get a better grade. The only class I've gotten a B in. He's a funny guy, but not the best professor.
He doesn't focus much on the aspect of teaching his students how to write well. He gives four very broad essay topics, and if the essays you submit don't necessarily match up with what he agrees with and exactly how he wants it written, you will get a B at most. He also has no rubric or clear grading policy, so it's hard to know what he wants.
I absolutely hated Professor Prinz, one of the worst professors I ever had! His grading criteria is not clear and the way he grades is unfair and just beyond ridiculous. He literally will say to write an essay about art or music, but will not give you a prompt. If you don't write what he is looking for he will constantly give you B's. Avoid him!!!!
Just dont take him. This class was supposed to be a simple freshmen class, but he just makes it unnecessarily hard. His grading does not make sense at all. He gives no rubrics and is very vague about the essays. He will give grades randomly with no feedback. He only gave me only high 70s on my essays, while I have 90s on my honors class essays.
Worst prof at Hofstra. Not clear about everything and will give you Cs on everything you write. Especially if you write about something he doesnt like. This one class is tanking my GPA. Do not take his class.
At first, I thought Dr. Prinz was a nice guy, since he's pretty laid back and chill. But the way he grades essays with little to no valuable feedback is so unfair. It's evident that he's opinionated and will take those opinions into account when grading papers, which is never a good sign. No rubrics, no structure, just brought down my GPA.
Don't take him. Don't even think abt I cant even explain how terrible.
He gives no clear advice and has no interest in helping students. There was an incident where I asked him a question after class and he clearly showed hes unapproachable to ask questions. Answered in the nastiest way possible and should not have a job teaching students.
He will be a difficult professor and a tough grader if you dont like writing without a strict rubric. You get to be creative though. Hes very funny and his lectures are never boring. Hes sarcastic and straightforward, thats why hes funny, but he makes sure to be respectful. Hes a great person and a decent professor.
He is a funny guy and a great person but when it comes to actually teaching he doesnt teach anything and doesnt tell you what he wants in your papers, including in the feedback. I was always an A student in English until this professor because he doesnt explain what he wants seen in your paper clearly.
Really chill and funny, the classes themselves are always really fun. However hes really unclear on what he expects from us with our essays. Ive gotten used to how he grades but he doesnt give clear feedback or any rubrics. Expect to have mid to low essay grades and just try to adapt to his grading style. Youre gonna be writing very differently
Absolutely amazing professor. It's a shame that many think that the lack of rubric and guidelines is a con. He encourages your writing to be creative + unique to oneself, hence the lack of a rubric. Even as a STEM major, I enjoyed his class most. EXTREMELY funny and makes class worthwhile. His grading can be tough, but he will see your efforts !!!
Prinz is a hilarious man; I thoroughly enjoy our discussions in class. However, he is a very harsh grader when it comes to papers, so get ready for some tough comments. He forces you to participate in class, but he makes it an open and fun environment.
Prinz just sat and talked about nothing the entire course. He assigned 4 papers and never was class discussion ever relevant, the papers were only mentioned in class the day before they were due, and never did he actually teach a thing. I'd heard from someone who'd taken him for WSC1 that he was easy going and easy but that was literally opposite.
I had no clue what was going on the entire course and I can't remember a single time Prinz taught us anything. I'm pretty sure most of my class was on the verge of failing
The worst professor ever. He would force you to participate and randomly call you out. If he thinks your work is bad, he will tell you in front of the class. He does many discussion boards that don't even count toward your grade. He is never clear about what he wants you to write, the papers could be about anything but has to follow his structure.
He's a good guy and his class is easy all you have to do is listen to his feedback. He gives you revisions at first too, if you mess your first two papers up. I was a bit unsure as to what he wanted us to write at first since there isn't a formal prompt, but after the first essay and receiving his feedback it was clear what he wanted us to do.
Prinz is a hilarious teacher. He holds very involved lectures that let you get personal with his teaching style. His lectures make the material easy to grasp however his criticism is a bit lacking. This is fixed by him being very accessible to his students with office hours and emailing. There's revisions for 2/4 essays + hw/attendance into account
This professor doesn't care about your grades. Assignments are very vague, don't have rubrics, and have unclear/no prompts. The mean for an essay was a 17.5/100. This class was horrible. I received all As in my classes where in this class, I ended with a C. He's very boring and a drag to be in class with. Do not take him for the sake of your GPA.
Learned nothing about writing or composition, got shafted by his NY Times publishing style grading. Never taught writing, learned more about art than writing.
Prinz is actually one of the BEST professors I have ever had. While yes he is a tough grader (i never did better than an 87), he's made me a better writer. He was hilarious and insightful, and just so wonderful. TAKE HIM!! you will not reget it.
Very engaging guy, but hard classes for sure. The classes were some of the most fun and entertaining so it's worth it for that, but don't expect higher than a B.
Can't even begin how to explain how much I hatee this class, but more importantly, this man. He will call out and embarrass students for nothing, force you to write like his writing style, which isn't easy to understand, and grade harshly. He is ridiculously strict on fomatting and even if the whole class does bad, he won't allow rewrites.
He only assigns 4 essay throughout the semester for both wsc 1 and wsc 2. Workload is super duper light and you can basically write the essays on whatever you want. HE CARES! Late paper? He will negotiate with you to improve your grade or let you "revise" the missing paper. I took him for wsc 1 and 2. Highly recommend him.
Professor Prinz is knowledgeable in his field but really only grades papers based on what he personally thinks is acceptable or in his writing style. He only grades students on 4 essays despite having many other assignments throughout the semester that aren't even for grades. It greatly decreases the possibility of a student getting a good grade.
While the professor was a great man with an excellent personality, his grading was very strict and could be very critical at times. I write good papers and continue to do so, but his expectations on what has to be done are very frustrating. It was once to the point where I failed an assignment because of this criterion. That is your warning!!
If you struggled with essays in high school and aren't ready to work hard to reach college-level writing fast, this may not be the class for you.Prinz is brilliant and fair across styles, but essays must be strong at the core. Take his feedback and use office hours, he's very helpful! If you're lost early on, maybe drop rather than relying on AI :(
i took him in WSC 01 and now im going to in WSC 02!! hes a very entertaining man and very knowledgeable about his subject, hes a very rough grader which can be a bit frustrating but he gives feedback on what to do next time!! GO TO HIS OFFICE HOURS!! he cares about you!! i would recommend taking him if you are passionate about creative writing
