NOT TOO EASY, NOT TOO HARD. THE CLASS IS BORING SOMETIMES
he is very soft spoken..but really nice. he will do all that he can do make sure you get a good grade. not a tough grader...but do the work.
the class took a little getting used to, but the fact that he really does want you to do well helps a lot. the sweaters everyday was a nice like oddity also.
He's not at all intimidating and his grading is fair. The only annoyance from the course would be all the writer's notebook assignments. He speaks very clearly and was easy to approach for questions. Fairly down to earth for a professor at Long Beach.
He's kool
His voice reminds me of Kermit the Frog. He's really nice and helpful. The writer's notebooks are a downer, but overall it's not too difficult. He gives opportunities for extra credit.
THIS TEACHER SUCKS! HE DOES NOT TEACH ANYTHING ABOUT ENGLISH AND SIMPLY ASSINGNS ESSAYS AND THERE IS SO MANY READINGS.
Great teacher, I would recommend taking him. He wants to teach and doesnt have to but really enjoys Long Beach, he even went here, he spends all week on campus from 7 till 7 mon-fri, he likes students, gives extra credit and does activities in class so you can work with friends. A is def obtainable
he's a cool guy. friendly and approachable. however...he is extremely boring and somewhat sounds like kermit the frog. a lot of work to be done in this class... but the essays are helpful. writer's notebooks do contribute to writing the essays. it makes essays alot easier to write.
Quite possibly the nicest professor I've ever had. I confess, he can be a little boring at times, but he's so nice it completely makes up for it, not to mention he's a fairly lenient grader. I definately recommend him for any class.
HE'S A NICE TEACHER. I FELL ASLEEP FIRST DAY OF CLASS.. BUT NONETHELESS HE WAS COOL. I PASSED ENGLISH 1 SO THAT'S AWESOME :] CAN BE BORING BUT ONCE YOU GET TO KNOW HIM HE IS A NICE TEACHER. HELPFUL TOO.. GET HIM FOR ENGLISH 1
Like learning? Take Professor Simoes. He's awesome, helpful, great, wonderful, sweet, passionate, and FUN. Kermit the Who?
Really nice guy (the kind of teacher I'd drink with), very intelligent, not too difficult considering the subject matter, always helpful. He's a young teacher, but I expect great things for him in the future.
class was way too easy, was a waste of time. i did not learn anything.
he's awesome. i had him for chicano studies and he made it very interesting. You can tell he loves what he does and it makes him happy to see his students learn. He had many interesting stories to tell and i loved his class.
Bored out of my mind. Nice guy, but boring. He spends a whole day on one poem, and I fall asleep. If youlike in depth teachers, go for it.
The teacher is very nice and he means well, but it's just such a dull class. If it weren't required for English majors, I definitely would've dropped it.
pretty easy teacher, very helpful and caring. go to him if u have problems but show up to class. he collects hw and its due every class u go to. 4 essays and porfolio u need to pass. i had to pull an all nighter to pass the portfolio but that was my fault. all in all overall a pretty swell teacher. take him.
Great Teacher! He is a really nice guy, is funny, especially with his sounds he makes and through being excited when it comes to learning Shakespeare. There are many response papers due (one on each play) but don't let that worry you, he grades them fairly. I would recommend this teacher for any type of English class.
Simoes is such a nice teacher and very helpful if you have any questions. He loves to teach and enjoy his students. He is also funny but sometime boring. I would recommend Simoes bc you will learn something in his class.
I've gone 2 months without going to my Econ class or Calculus class. But for some reason I always found myself in Simoes class, eager to learn. Easy grader, but critiques everything so you learn what you need to work on. He will make you learn. And no answer is ever wrong. Great class!
Sweet guy, sweet teacher. He really cares about the material. Learned more about world cultures and globalization than grammar and the analysis of poetry.
Simoes is passionate about his teaching and allows for incite as to how to make the class better. Utilize the office hours if you fall behind. Be on time and ready for class because every aspect of the material will be covered.
Nice teacher and eager to help students. Really brings a sense of clarity and understanding to the works discussed. The papers are easy and give room for learning. Don't miss class and be on time...should be an easy A
Awesome teacher, lovely human being. He is very knowledgable and eager to help. He keeps grades on Beachboard so you know where you stand. He supplimented the readings of the plays with various film adaptations, and went all out for performances. Lots of papers, but they're pretty easy and he's an easy grader. Best class ever!
Nobody wants to take 184, but Marc is such a great professor! He is super nice and interesting. The only problem is he takes attendance and actally does lower your grade if you don't show up. (I earned an A, but my lack of attendance brought me down to a B). Aside from that, he is an awesome professor and totally recommended for this class!
I love Professor Simoes! He always came in smiling and waving and excited to teach. He knew more about every single piece than any other teacher I've met. He made us think about everything. We would read a story I'd learned about before, and I'd gain a whole new understanding of the piece. Ask his help for essays- he'll give you a better grade
What a Hottie! Interesting professor as well :]
Simoes is terrible. First, he assigns a ton of reading and papers. I guess thats kinda expected, but he assigns so much work that you wont get grades back for months. In fact, i didnt get 80% of my grades back until weeks after school ended. Also, he doesnt explain assignments until the day they are do, NO JOKE. He is terrible and doesnt do his job
One bad thing about Prof Simoes is that he takes a while to get papers back. But he just might be the nicest and most understanding human being on the planet. He'll help you with your papers, and explain what is going to be on the test. If you fail to do well in his cl****, you might be retarded.
Horrible. Terrible. Seriously he was the worst English teacher. I didnt learn anything in his class and English 100 is supposed to be easy, we did hard readings. He is a nice guy though but bad teacher, really bad, and i didnt even know my grade till grades got posted.
Who wants to take/teach this class? Nobody. Poor Simoes. Its a **** class--tough to read all the essays on theories, etc. But Simoes (while a procrastinator) is a geniunely nice person and tries to make it as interesting as possible. He overloads himself with work and then feels guilty so he's easily persuaded regarding due dates.
He's a pretty nice guy, but I think he overloads the class and himself with way too much work. He isn't very clear on what he expects with assignments either. It's not a terribly hard class, but it can be frustrating having a teacher that never seems to grade anything
Don't know what the bad reviewers are coming from, maybe they should spend less time at the nugget. As long as you study, do the essays and r-e-a-d the syllabus, you are fine. College is not for everyone. He is a helpful teacher of English, very accessible during his office hours and goes out of his way to assist you with your papers. Thumbs up.
He's VERY knowledgeable about the subject (in this case, Shakespeare) and tends to push due dates back. He is a nice guy and surprisingly funny. Gives a lot of work, but it's manageable.
Overall he's a good teacher and really wants you to succeed. Very lax about due dates and reasonable and no excessive homework/classwork and you should be a much better writer after taking his class. Class gets pretty boring but it never was the most interesting class to begin with. If you follow the course outline you'll be fine.
He is really a delightful person, and a sweet guy who knows EVERYTHING about Shakespeare and his class is very interesting because of that. He is, however, the WORST at getting papers back, and so students don't get needed feedback to help them adjust their work to suit what the teacher wants. He really needs to work on giving students timely fdbk.
I got an A in this class, but I have to say, this guy is a terrible teacher. He's nice, as others have said, but he doesn't return papers until after the next one is due, so you have no idea where you stand. Additionally, he ALWAYS over estimates what can be done in a class period and therefore NEVER finishes what he should. He also dresses badly.
He is a really nice and is very helpful. He returned our essays late...like after our next one was due, so it was hard to figure out how we were supposed to improve our next essay. But overall the class is pretty easy!
SO NICE! A great teacher, he is so enthusiastic about his classes he assigns alot of small work. The only thing is, he hardly ever grades it so you basically have no clue as to how you're doing in the class.380 is a crappy class, but Marc makes it semi-understandable.
The class subject matter was sort of boring. If you hate literary criticism don't take him. If you are into getting your grades on a regular basis don't take him! He is terrible about getting grades back on time. He will even tell you that in the beginning. He is sort of funny and weird. his last paper is confusing.
The subject matter is boring and the work seems pointless because it's not returned. He never finished posting the grades from my class! I have a total of 4 things graded out of about 20! For the work you put into it and what you get out of it, this class isn't worth it. Take someone else.
He is very nice, but SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO unorganized... do not expect him to grade anything until after the semester. I went into the final knowing 2 paper grades out of five. He is scatter brained but very nice. He is helpful if you go to his office hours! Go to class cuz he takes attendence and there are quizzes on readings!
I don't see how people can give this guy such high ratings when they acknowledge how unorganized he is. Sure he's nice, but I'm not taking his class to make a friend. TAKE SOMEONE ELSE!!!! He literally doesn't grade anything! It's unbelievable
The class is very easy to pass as long as you read and show up to get an idea of what's going on. He's a very nice guy and soft spoken. However, he is highly unorganized and don't expect to get your papers back. I got my first midterm paper back after we took our third midterm.
He is really unorganized and it takes forever to get the grades back. the class itself is pretty easy, just have to read a pretty good amount and write three essays. The class time itself is pretty boring, you will always go to the exact minute that class is held to and do not expect to get your grades in a timely manner
Do NOT take him unless you would like to read almost all the way through the entire Norton Anthology. The reading isn't necessary for class discussions and you can get by if you haven't read until the test comes. Midterm, final, one bs paper. The tests consist of totally incomprehensible mc and a looooong essay so you better have read EVERYTHING!
Best theory class I've taken.
i took this class last semester...and let me tell you, he grades really hard on essays. i'm glad he didnt have to grade my portfolio (in order to pass engl 1). if he did, i dont think i would've been able to take engl 100 this semester. other than that, he's a really nice, sweet, and helpful guy.
Great class. VERY unorganized! Professor Simoes is extremely intelligent, and a very FUN professor. The class didn't have much to do with learning technology, but it DID have everything to do with using technology as a means to teach. Don't expect to have your hand held. Workload is moderate, two presentations, online responses.
Professor Simoes is not only incredibly intelligent and knowledgeable in his field; he actually cares about his students. His classes are like most classes in that you will get out of it what you put in. Communicate with him and go to the office hours - his classes are worth the effort.
awesome teacher for english 1. he really tried to help us improve on our essays and gave us helpful instructions. Nice guy.. really wants you to pass! Your allowed a couple of absences but thats it and make sure you do the hw.. its pretty easy.
One of the greatest English teachers. He is very intelligent and wants all his students to pass. I considered being an English major because of him. TAKE HIS CLASS !
Not gonna lie. This was the toughest (and best) English class I've ever taken--and I'm an English double major. That being said, Professor Simoes is the the most amazing professors I've ever had. He's extremely intelligent, very caring toward his students, and very fair in his grading system. There's a lot of work, but each assignment is worth it.
This class was HORRIBLE!!!!!! DO NOT TAKE SIMOES!!! He doesn't explain assignments until the day they are due, and he changes requirements for them at the last second (and the changes usually make the assignments more work). You never receive any work back so you don't know how you're doing. LOTS of VERY DIFFICULT TO UNDERSTAND reading.
Nice guy&funny but gets so into the details in lecture it's easy to fall asleep if it's not your cup of tea. No hw besides reading like EVERYTHING in the Norton Anthology. recommend sparknotes&taking notes in class. 1quiz 1midterm w/essay 1final w/essay VERY detailed. Takes forever to grade.&1Major essay.Don't take as GE unless you love old english
Mr. Simoes is really nice and helpful, the only problem was that he would give you tons of reading to do (impossible to read everything) and leave you not really knowing which story had which (unless it was a major work). Jumps around a lot from story to story and for sure, you'll fall asleep a lot. However, you can tell he cares for his students.
wish I could pay this man 100k to personally teach me his jedi abilities in approaching lit for a year. He has a distinct mastery over the subject and it's been deeply inspiring to me as a student. workload is what's expected for a survey course, doing well in this class is about engaging the text consistently. It can be hard, but Simoes is great.
I learned a lot in this class. One of the main aspects is to read and write while critically thinking. Be prepared to write essays that are overly analyzed. He also crammed everything in at the end and did not follow his syllabus. He was a good/okay professor.
He is really smart and helpful teacher. You will learn a lot about the most random stuff when he goes on his rants. He is a really good english teacher and can help you write good essays. You can also pick interesting topics to write about. He is unorganized though and you will be lucky to get anything back.
Keep up on the reading and do the work and you will do fine. He is very helpful, if you don't understand. GO talk to him.
Enamored with him. Will change your life or at least how you view the world, lit, world of lit. Very useful course. Lots of papers, tons of reading, book is very difficult to understand. Papers, quizzes, interview, class presentation, midterm, final. Exams are 2 parts: quiz on the reading, then essay using theories learned to interpret poem/story
He is a nice guy but the hardest teacher I've ever had. He even says that a lot of people fail his class. You must keep up with the reading or you will fall behind easily. There are assignments every week that he never gave back to us so we didn't know our grades. Also daily quizzes, presentation, and a 10 page paper.
He is honestly one of the greatest professors I've ever had. The way he explains things actually gets you to think critically. He can be a bit unorganized but nonetheless this class is do-able :) I highly recommend taking Mr. Simoes!
His 380 course is tough, but I feel like a better student because of it. Gets you to focus on theory and diff schools of interpretation. You need to be very organized and keep up with the reading. Don't expect to get work returned to you, but visit his office hours! He is very helpful and will explain exactly what he means.
Simoes will change the way you view literature forever. I love this man! You must have the textbook and must read every chapter. He helps you out at every chance he can, so make sure you ask him!
I'll give him this, he does try to get you out of your comfort zone as a writer and tries to challenge you cognitively with different styles of argument and writing. Unfortunately he has no time on his hands and you are likely not going to get graded works back for a while and he will have minimal criticism. He expects a lot & is a hard grader.
Simões is a great guy, very passionate. However, most of class is spent listening to student presentations of complex literary theory that they don't understand, as opposed to being taught by him. Extremely heavy workload-prepare to be consistently overwhelmed. If getting graded work back is important to you, you will be very unhappy in this class.
He is a person who is very dedicated to his students, but he expects a lot for every work and don't expect your work graded soon, he take a while to correct them.
He is very dedicated to his subject, but he has high expectations to every assignment and don't expect your work graded soon, he takes a while.
Do yourself a favor,-don't take this instructor. He makes strict timely demands on students he himself cannot follow on his end. He takes forever to return an exam and is unbelievably pedantic in his grading. He seems to enjoy stumping his students with trick multiple choice questions on major exams about scholarly articles that are complex enough
This class will not help you become more technologically aware. This class will not prepare you to teach English-language Arts. This professor takes an EXTREMELY long time to grade. The textbook is terrible. The assignments have nothing at all to do teaching English. Take a different class to satisfy your technological requirement.
Professor Simoes is a wonderful human being. He is passionate, intelligent, and honest. His class is definitely tough, but enlightening -- made English theory easy to comprehend. If you don't understand something, go to his office. He is more than willing to help his students. Only drawback: do NOT expect to get any grades back in this class.
Nice, smart guy. Don't let his intelligence intimate you. Dry lectures, felt more like a philosophy class than english. Fair grader. Could've simplified material more. Grade is based on interview project, 10 pg. paper, 34 pop quizzes, 7 response papers, midtermfinal are both multi choicein class essay, and presentation. Take him, u wont hate him
This class was very helpful! It helped a lot in my writing skills due to all the essays we write in and out of class! The articles he chooses are well thought out and interesting topics. The professor is a little boring but teaches well. Th downfall would be he does not give back assignments. I would recommend taking this class.
He doesn't give much back in terms of grades; however, everything else about his teaching is phenomenal. Simoes genuinely cares about the success of his students. One of the most intelligent humans I've ever encountered, but don't be intimidated to talk to him because he is seriously so nice. Hardest class with the hardest teacher, but so worth it
If you are stuck with Simões for 380 don't panic. There is a ton of work: presentation, interview, multi-choice & essay final and midterm, research paper, and 7 response papers. He has over 100 students, so doesn't grade even half of the work. Go to class, be engaged in the lecture, turn everything even its its late or crap and you will get an A.
HE is a professor I would not take again. He did not grade anything all semester long. I never got feedback on anything and I do not know how I earned the grade I earned. He causes a lot of stress and during lecture he tends to get off topic a lot! Search for another professor.
Honestly one the toughest classes I have taken, but my friends and I loved him. Yes, the lectures do become hard to sit through, but he has random comments that will make you crack up.
Make sure you drink lots of coffee to sit through an hour and 45 minutes of lectures. No offense but this is one boring class. Make sure you read and be prepared to talk in groups about the short stories and poems you'll have to read! Really nice, caring, and respectful professor. However, this class will have you constantly looking at the clock.
I was overwhelmed in the begining but it is manageable. This is a heavy class that's more time consuming than difficult. Some students hate him and some like him. I think going to his office hours made it better for me because he will go through your papers with you. There's a big 15 page paper START EARLY. He's a cool perfessor but you will work
Lectures were very boring in this class, at least when I took it. You're graded on three papers over the entire semester, but he does all the research for you. The final was even optional in my case. Overall, boring and easy class just to get the ENGL100 requirement out of the way.
Make sure to buy the textbook its gonna become your bible for this course, go to his office hours he really clears up what you're reading, bummer side he doesn't grade quickly so half the semester you wont know your grade.
Definitely take Simoes. He makes his class look terrifying (I think he enjoys it) but if you come in with a good attitude and take your time with each assignment, you will be good. If you stop by during office hours, he will stop at nothing to make sure you're on the right path. After his 380, every college course feels like K-12.
Okay Simoes is amazing, by far the best professor I've had in my four years. The textbook was necessary but he makes the information very accessible and is always willing to help students for hours on end. Very understanding, and very clear on instructions in what he expects out of assignments, which really helped focus my writing skills. Amazing.
Simoes class is a heavy lecture class. He tends to ramble off and expects students to learn the entire book by the end of the semester. I do not recommend him! He doesn't grade anything on time and when he does it's most likely going to be a failing grade. He likes to show his students how they're not as smart as he is, very condescending. RUN!
He's the WORST professor I've ever had. He only graded ONE assignment out of 15 at the end of the semester. Everyone got F's for following his sample assignments. He doesn't discuss about the assignments. Instead, he will gave random poetic examples to relate to the chapter concepts. The midterm and final is extremely vague and he expects failure.
This guy never grades papers. He graded 1/15 assignments by the end of the semester. He gave everyone Fs for that one assignment. His assignments are unclear. Wastes time during class to talk about poetry (has nothing to do with exams or assignments). Rather than focusing on his students' success, he rather talk about his three houses. Talks a lot.
Professor Simões is probably one of the nicest and caring people you'll ever meet. He has a tons of office hours for students to visit and encourages them to come by for snacks. With that being said, he is a very tough grader and expects a lot from the students. A major downside is that he takes forever to grade.
Most English majors take 380 their junior year but I took it my senior year, which made me better prepared. Attendance is mandatory (you will lose points for missed classes) and their is a TON of reading. He grades a few assignments and keeps notes on each student's progress. A lot of your grade is effort. This class was stressful but rewarding.
Easy A as long as you show up and do the work. It did get tough towards the end of the semester because projects became stacked back to back. He bases most lessons on Microsoft Word. We also kept falling behind schedule for the rest of the semester because he talked a lot. Overall a nice and knowledgable guy.
This is the hardest class I've had to take as an English major. He expects the class to be your top priority. Textbook heavy, lots of hard work, long lectures, long tests, but as long as you TRY as hard as you can he'll get it. Aside from all of this he's the most caring professor ive ever had. He has the biggest heart and means well
Talks for the sake of talking, most of his instructions do not make sense. Does not respond to emails in a timely manner, and doesn't keep students up to speed. Also assignments leave students confused as to the relevance of the class: how does learning the moon cycle have anything to do with a "technology in English class" course?!
He is hands-down the WORST professor I have ever had! Anyone who says you should take his class is setting you up for failure! It took him 2 months, 2 MONTHS to respond to my emails. I got an incomplete in his class (after I worked my butt off on all the assignments) and then I spent 6 MONTHS of my life waiting on him. TERRIBLE PROFESSOR!
Doesnt post grades. The 7 response papers are daunting but most are short. He talks nonstop about irrelevant topics which is draining. The reading is dense. Hes kind but doesnt consider that our lives dont revolve around his class. However, he was understanding after some pleas from students during the pandemic and canceled some assignments.
He lectures off topic. The papers should be more explained and organized. He relies ONLY on the book. You are expected to read 4 texts outside of the book and literally the entire class is critical essays on the 4 texts. This semester was The Yellow Wallpaper, The Tempest and Ode to a Grecian Urn. Then you spend the entire semester dissecting
He is nice and even has a food bank in his office for students, but he thinks his class is the only one that matters. In the beginning of the semester he showed us a list of students who failed. He also mentioned that you can't use the restroom just because his dog holds it in during a flight. He talks a lot too, some things are unnecessary.
I've taken many ENG survey classes and none of them had 1/3 of the work this class had. 100s of pages of reading for class. A couple of students were repeats and said the work load was somehow less than it was last semester because they spoke up. Well if you love to read, he is in love with old texts and reads along with the class.
No matter how hard I tried and visited his office every week I would still get low grades on ALL my papers.
He gives too much to read for a 200 level class. Also, he is terrible at reviewing for midterms and final exams because he is not straightforward. he always goes off topic and isnt clear on what he wants on exams.
NO. Do not believe anyone who praises him. Boring and pedantic. Unreasonable. An elitist who doesn't know how to teach, only how to grade. RUN AWAY. He is the reason I am going to a different school for graduate school. He literally drags the whole English department down with him.
He's passionate about this subject, yes, but he is not an interesting lecturer. Graded by three things (Midterm, Essay, Final) and is very slow at grading. A lot of reading for the class, did not post the reading for the week until the night of our first meet-up for the week. The studyguide was vague and not very helpful. 0/10 would not take again.
He's tough and if you're going to grad school, he's the professor for you. His workload is challenging. We had TONS of complex readings, 7 response papers, a midterm (exam+essay), and a research paper (12-15 pgs). He's a strict grader, but he's slow on grading. But he does care about his students and was available all the time. Go to Office Hours!
i really dont know how i got an A. I don't even know what we learned in class. I genuinely think he was tired of grading and gave us an A as long as we did the assignment. Go to class GO TO OFFICE HOURS. his lectures r useless. self study and know what each critical mode means/entails. start on the research paper asap don't wait for him to tell u.
Just don't do this to yourself!
Anyone who didn't like him probably never went to his office hours. He comes across as arrogant in class but was very helpful and kind whenever I asked him for help outside of class. He's a good guy and very smart, you just have to put in a little more effort than you would with other professors because of his personality.
I took this class and we wrote 3 papers all year. He didn't input the grades until 1 month after the semester had finished. He also is bad at communicating things. He gives wordy lectures and weaves important information in-between his monotone words I do not recommend this guy. Nice guy, tho. Be ready for a headache though.
I took his class in 2011 and he was terrible then. Sad to see nothing has changed. I stumbled upon this page while talking to my own students about what not to do as a teacher. I remembered turning in my first assignment in August and not receiving a grade back until November.
Wasnt helpful at all. I heard hes good and he can be; felt he went out of topic so much. He was talking about The Bee Gees for a good 30 minutes in a lecture. Some readings made sense. Very heavy reading and intense homework. Felt like 3 classes combined in one. I emailed him for help and an extension and he never responded. Wouldnt recommend.
was worrisome the entire semester because up until now he has not put in any of the grades for the Essays we have done so far. There are 4 essays the entire semester and almost every time I attend class the Professor takes about 35-45 minutes of the class time talking about something far from what we have to do towards the assignment. Real struggle
Wish I could tell you what kind of grader he is. He hasn't graded anything for anyone this semester and we have no idea what we'll get. He forgot to assign our essays and rushed us all to complete them during the last month of the semester. He didn't teach anything, he just listens to himself talk. Hella in love with his own analysis. Skip him.
I really feel bad for Marc. He seems like a nice guy, though somewhat out of touch. His class is a complete waste of time. He talked about the moon and writing on clay with a stick for majority of the class. Went on tangents constantly. This was such a meaningless experience. I really wish I could say that I gained something from his class. BEWARE
He is a teacher that many students will have a hard time adjusting to. The drop rate of his 380 is very high. Simoes has lots of useful knowledge for one wanting to improve their English skills, but it comes at a cost. He does not grade proactively, his expectations are a bit unclear, and his lecture time is not utilized as well as it could be.
The class started with 35 students, and ended with 8. Doesnt grade any assignment until the semester is over, so you dont know if youre passing. The material was very difficult to grasp, and the professor did not make it easy to understand. One student was a sponge, and learned everything when no one else could, and he ended up failing the class.
He just didn't teach this class. I've gained no new knowledge. He tells entirely irrelevant personal anecdotes that waste time. This class could be an hour at most with his activities if he just stopped going over dumb things like MLA at the start of every single class. I can't describe how defeated this class has made me and my classmates feel.
He went off on tangents SO MUCH. I did not learn a single thing in his course. He never graded any of his assignments so we never got any feedback. He piled on major projects in the last few weeks of the semester. NONE of his in-class activities taught us how to use technology in our classrooms.
Easy class but Professor Simoes does tend to go off-topic. No assignments or tests, just 2 papers, and one book report. Also, you pretty much don't know your grade until the very end. But do go to his office hours!!
Go to Lectures!!!!! For writing papers he gives the assignment criteria but doesn't grade until the end so go to office hours to make sure you are doing everything you are supposed to. Very few assignments so not a lot in the grade book. Easy class! Amazing professor, very understanding and respectful! Lectures help with writing essays.
If you want to learn about technology in the classroom, do NOT take this class. The only 2 things I learned were how to use Microsoft Word and that I should never have taken this class with him as the professor. He is very unorganized and goes on tangents, but he does answer all your questions during class.
He talks wayyyyy too much about the most irrelevant information. One class, he went on a tangent about ghosts for an HOUR to end his rant by saying, "do I believe in ghosts, no". Like what.
He didn't grade anything ALL SEMESTER LONG! I had an NA/F in this class until 12/22, the very last day for professors to turn in grades. ZERO individual assignments were graded, I don't know if he even bothered to open and look at them all. So much wasted time. I spent 3 hours in lecture every week and learned nothing. I wish I had a different prof
I do not recommend taking him at all please avoid him if you can. One time I had came to class late expecting to miss a lot but when I came in he was talking about doing cocaine with your pinky nail(mind you we were suppose to be originally working on our grammar but he yapped sm about random topics we did not have enough time to do so).
He talks an insane amount. I'm sure the 3-hour class can be cut by 2 hours if he stopped talking about stuff entirely irrelevant to the class. He goes on tangents about random stuff. If this is only a choice for a required class, absolutely take the other choice, you will feel like you've wasted 3 hours of your life in this class.
This professor will have you confused by the time you reach the end of the semester. Throughout the whole semester all he does is talk, give quizzes, and show videos. I always tend to fall asleep and so do many others. Throughout the semester he talks about the assignments but never goes into detail about them and goes off topic. I DON'T RECOMMEND!
This class was okay. There is a book required to read for this class and there is a test once a week on a chapter. He takes attendance and there is 3 papers: thats your grade for the most part. If I were to take this class again, I would immediately start working on a paper the second he mentions it because there is no strict deadline. HE YAPS!
You will want to crash out in his class.. do not take all he does is yap and he doesnt grade till the last day of semester so you wont know what ur grade is. Also, its super reading heavy and most of the time its a philosophy class not english. STAY AWAY
If you can avoid him, PLEASE DO IT. This is anything BUT an English class. He doesn't stay on topic, or go over over any important dates. His time management is also terrible. He also doesn't put in grades until the last minute. Basically you'll just be wasting 75 minutes learning about nothing.
Professor Simoes may go on tangents, but his lectures are worth attending. Assignments are light, with just a few papers and a book report. unstuck AI proved helpful for essay prep. Overall, an easy A if you stay engaged.
He talks a lot. Sometimes, they're interesting; sometimes, they lose focus on the original topic. I do not recommend at all. We watched documentaries majority of the time, and with the lights dimmed and the blinds closed, it hurts to keep my eyes open. He is also a very late grader. I did not know any essence of my grade until much later.
Been 2 weeks since grades were due from the professor to submit to my transcript…horrible professor all he does is rant and there are no details on your assignments. You practically don't know what to do till he loads everything on you the last day of the semester..STAY AWAY
Grades have already been due and he has yet NOT graded ANY essays or reading quizzes we had all semester. Many other students and I don't even know our grade! All he does is talk your ears off and does not teach anything. It's just a waste of time. Please stay away from taking this professor.. let it be your LAST option.
ACTUALLY HATE THIS MF… didn't grade our assignments at all and just gives you a grade on how much he likes you. I STILL DIDNT GET ANY ASSIGNMENTS GRADE, it's been 2 weeks since deadline . DONT TAKE! He's easy but such an annoying teacher cuz he wasted ur time by ranting all day and then doesn't tell you about your assignments until the last week.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR. All he does is go off topic and waste your time. He constantly told us that this wasn't a science class and yet the only information I could take from this (English) class is random information about water and extinction. He NEVER grades anything, the semester has been over for weeks and no one knows if they even passed
Poor Marc. He seems like such a nice man, just is a horrific teacher. He is very knowledgeable about random things and will lecture on and one. He ALWAYS uses the entire 3 hours of class time, even if it is just to ramble on. I never got any feedback on assignments or got anything graded. Just my final grade. Pretty sure he grades on completion.
I would not recommend this professor to anyone who has the choice. Mr.Simoes is very lecture heavy, talking about things that are completely unnecessary to the class. You write a total of three essays, have weekly quizzes, no work time in class, as well as don't get a grade back until over a month after the semester is over. He seems out of it.
Lectures were not the most entertaining, BUT it was one of the most easiest courses. Three essays and quiz(s). I had waited til the last week to get all three essays done which were easy to write. He does not grade right away but he IS an easy grader so I would not be worried. He is SUPER sweet but I would just recommend for credits. :)
He's a great guy, but he is very lecture heavy and a lot of times off topic. However he's an easy grader. I waited till the last week to do the 3 end of year essays and got good scores. Straight forward style of class, quizzes every week and those 3 essays due at the end of the semester. No homework, just those.
I can see the guy is trying, but unfortunately he still fails at his job. Spends too much time lecturing about other stuff, and does not even grade our stuff. After seeing the other reviews it seems that people pass as long as they attend and do their work. I bet I'll pass, but this class was not worth it in the end.
The other reviews have summarized him pretty well. He's been like this for several years. Do yourself a favor and take the other tech course. Avoid him if possible.
DROP WHILE YOU CAN. This class was the biggest waste of time. He's nice but yaps A LOT about barely related stuff. We took quizzes on a book all semester and he never put them in the grade book. We had no late penalties, all projects due last day of semester. Revisions take forever. VERY tedious and annoying for a GE. You won't learn anything here.
didnt grade stuff. quizz every week; the questions were vague yet the answers he showed us were so specific. he talks abt his personal life a lot. 3 papers throughout the semester. no midterm/final. only thing not boring abt this class is hes lowk funny. do avoid if you can; super stressful not knowing what our grades were until the semester ended.
he is very sweet and unintentionally funny but he didn't post any grades till the end of the semester. while attendance is mandatory, he just yaps the entire class about nothing. don't take him if you want a difficult semester.
Not a great professor, and doesnt grade stuff until the very very end of the semester. You really dont know what you got in the class until you look at your transcript. Also takes way too long to get to the point on certain things and yaps. Avoid if possible.
Funny but not a wonderful professor. Grade was based on attendance, the midterm (which was last minute), one essay, and the final, and still nothing has been graded officially yet. He doesn't rely on visuals, which leads to irrelevant tangents to the point where he never finishes. Appreciated the related performances that he played in class though!
Beware, he does not grade at ALL during the semester. He never stays on topic with his lectures, he will talk about future assignments randomly .You will not get through half his syllabus because he talks so much about other things. He also apparently turns off his email notifications so its hard to get in contact with him unless by text
He's not a tough grader which worked out in the end because his lectures seriously go off topic. He doesn't rely on any visuals so you just have to follow him verbally which doesn't work for a lot of people. He also doesn't post grades until the very END of the semester. Nice guy but I was hardly able to retain any information from his lectures.
