He is a great teacher. He is very clear in his instructions. He is willing to help his students when they are behind. Just don't be late to his class.
His lectures are very interesting and helpful. I wish he had a study guide; that's his only flaw. He goes out of he ways to make sure that everyone understands that material.
Mr Smith wants you to learn the material. He does get off the subject sometimes but overall his class is easy. He does need to lighten up a little more.
He is a great teacher, very concerned with his students success.

He relates biology to everday life. His lectures are excellent.
Mr. Smith is a nice guy, but I think that he's in love with himself!
Mr.Smith's a nice guy. I wouldn't take him for summer courses unless you're a biology whiz. He really cares if you understand the material. It would've been nice if he had given study guides.
He made the class interesting by telling stories, but his lectures could have been more clear. He was an alright teacher, just don't make him mad.
I am one of the few survivors from my Biology class. My class dwindled from an astounding 30 to a couple handfuls. Smith is not a bad guy, or poor professor. He just expects every student to be a Biology major.
Very RUDE, and disrespectful to students. He uses humiliation and bad jokes to try to befriend people. Also takes naps during class.

Smith did a decent job of explaining the mechanics of each lab. However, I feel the information he provided was sometimes unnecessary and made preparing for the exams difficult.
Smith is a cooll guy he just gets mad if you dont live up to your potential. He kicked me out of class once but we have reconciled since then.
Smith is old-school; he makes no qualms about it. He gives no extra credit, gets behind and has to cram material. You grade is based off 4-5 tests. Tests are composed of hard, application-based questions, so reading terms out of the book is worthless. Good luck.
I've had him a few times. He gets really annoying b/c he gets off topic so much. It seems like hes unprepared for class he just kinda teaches out of his head and goes here and goes there. It's so random I got really confused a lot. We also got behind and had to miss a whole entire chapter at the end
He expects a lot out of you. Expects you to perform at your full potential. If you work hard, you get the grade. If you think it's going to be cake, you probably will hate him because he actually makes you work!

Lectures didn't go with the book. Tests were composed of material not covered in class. I will never, and i mean never, take another one of his classes, not even a lab.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR. I carry a 3.7 GPA, and I got a C in this class. His lectures are good, just not over whats on the test. Hes very off-topic in almost every lecture, and blames bad test scores on students. He lectures one thing, the book says another, and has analogy questions on his tests which have 2 or 3 answers that could be right.
I must agree that Smith can be very tough at times. He expects students to realise their full potential. However, his tests were ambigous at times. But for whatever is said about Smith, I must also say that he does care about his students and wants them to succeed....if he could only meet us half-way with his tests though.
Has high expectations of students. He is very hard. However he is one of the better teachers at this school right now in the biology department (2005-2006). If you like a challenge he is a good professor to take. If you are just taking this class because it is required and are not really interested in biology, I suggest looking for a elsewhere.
He is HARD so if you are not up for a challenge DONT TAKE HIM!!!! He is off topic alot but it makes the class go quicker. OOPS, late for his class now, gotta go!! LOL
I think he is an AWESOME instructor. He is very funny!! He sometimes goes off topic, but the discussions turn out to be pretty fun! As long as you follow the lecture and read your book, you will do fine.
I haven't taken his class because SOOO many people who have, warned me off. He is making our lab test though and he shouldn't be able to. By the looks of the test and how he handle it, he's a control freak, that needs to be stopped! If you have to take his lab test, don't buy the Bio Atlas, it will do you no good. It's wasted money!!
This guy is a complete jerk. I could never reach him when I needed help, and he will not return phone calls. I did okay in the class, but not with any help from him. Although his lectures are semi-entertaining, he does not give adequate answers to the questions on the tests. I would suggest you to avoid this Prof.
His teaching style is unclear, he's not friendly, and very short tempered. i will never take his classes again.
Mr. Smith obviously has issues outside of the classroom. He comes into class everyday pouting and sighing acting all stressed out. When he lectures he expects students to know unrelated material and strives to insult your inteligence when you participate. I wouldn't sign up if I were you.
terrible teacher, avoid him. he thinks everyone is a bio major and doesn't care about students. Tests are terrible, he is impatient and picks on students. do not take this teacher
Have him for lab, not lecture. He's always late, by as much as 20 minutes. He's abrasive and curt. He knows his stuff, though, so if you can get past the personality, you will learn from him.
I had him for lab and lecture, he has a different way of teaching, but he does get his points through. If you talk to him and give him a chance he will really go out of his way to help you. He's not a bad prof. he is just very different.
I think Dr. Smith was one of the best teachers I had at sinclair. If you work hard he will work with you. BUt if you just want to slack off thats not really his fault. Also bio is hard stuff so he expects you to know the material. I think people are too hard on him.
enjoyed 111 and 112, he gives u real world info to use outside of class room
Hes ok....all i can say is that if u are struggling in Biology or its not ur strongest subject..DO NOT take him...I made the mistake of takin him twice and failed even though i was in class and showed willingness to learn and try to understand, Its something about his teaching style that makes things so hard
I will say if you are looking for easy - pass this up. But if you are looking for a class and a teacher that can make even the toughest and dullest of topics interesting - take him. You are in college you have to put out the work to get the grade - it's not preschool!
He doesnt seem that nice. He expects everyone to know the answer to every question he has and he gets mad if you dont answer. A lot of the questions he asks are random too. He pretty much made me uncomfortable during the class. Short story... went to class, left class... dropped class and picked up another bio lab at a different time.
Interesting guy, he IS a nice guy although it may not seem that way at first. No homework, just 5 tests which are not that difficult, even tho it seem like he would make it harder, he makes the tests passable. Trust him to teach you, he gives you good information you can actually use.
This is my first time rating but I think it should be known that the man ask us to be early and ready so we would be able to cover everything. Well, we were and HE wasn't and never appologized for it. I was late once and he was in the hallway talking to someone....we were 10 minutes late! I am a student with a 3.5 but I got a C in his class. Scienc
He seems like a cool guy, but his teaching style is far out there. You can't read his writing on the board. I studied hard for his test, but I feel like I failed. I used the CD's, study guide that came with the book. It was very unclear of what you should know for the tests. How will I ever get through this. I value my GPA! HELP!!
keeps evrything very interesting
This guy has WAY too many outside issues to be teaching. He says that he loves what he does and he would do anything to help his students learn but he does not answer emails and everytime you ask a question he makes you feel like an idiot. If you take him I have no sympothy for your demise. You have been warned.
I really liked this teacher. He is very intimidating, but he made the class interesting and engaging, and frightening, which made me study much more. I got almost 100% in this class. I don't know what people are talking about, if you listen to his lectures and READ THE BOOK you will do fine.
Dr. Smith is just a professor who makes Biology fun and you can actually enjoy being in class. He gives out study guides to help you with the tests. The class is hard, so he expects you to know the material. So, it's best if you read the book and pay attention in class. If you do those two things, you will do fine in the class. Take his lab too.
he is a terrible teacher! he cried everyday if people weren't in class. his lab was ok but the in class stuff was ridiculous. the tests were way to hard and the study guides didnt help like he acted like they did. i would definately NOT suggest taking him unless you want to work your a** off just to get a C
Funny guy, he really likes for people to interact. He calls on people. Try to take his lab as well. I didn't, and I have to say it would have helped.
Awesome Teacher. Ppl saying that he gets "mad" are misinterpreting. He's animated and passionate and will try to wretch answers out of students if they aren't speaking up, but he doesn't get angry. 95% of the tests are straight from the book, read and understand it and you'll ace the class. If he covers something not in the book he lets us know!
Very blunt style, but I got use to it after a few classes. Read the text ahead of time because you will spend the entire class trying to write notes and keep up!
I loved Dr. Smith! While his class is very hard,he does want you to succeed. He drills you because he knows you are capable of doing well.He is also a nice person outside of class- if you are struggling and you go to him his is willing to help you.He is very wise, honest and inspiring! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED-if you can stand a little drilling!
He gives you a study guide for each test, he's a little crazy but he is funny:) I have such an appreciation for biology mostly because of him, you need to study for tests...
Professor uses a lot of real life examples and involves the students lives to show relevance of management styles. Keeps you right to the last second of class. Poor communication (doesn't respond to emails). Big on students showing respect to their classmates. Fair teacher. Study, read study guide and tests closely. Should get A or B no problem.
Absolutely great! He expects nothing but the best but will be sure to return that to you. I have much respect for Mr. Smith. Do not take his class if you are hoping just to get by, he is there to make you learn.
Great teacher.Makes sure you get something out of his class.Very friendly.Keeps class interesting.
Great teacher! Makes biology an even more intersting subject.Expects the best out of his students and hates it when people are late just like me!
very knowledgeable but teaches entry level bio like your'e in upper tier bio
The difference between Smith and other prof. is he wants you to learn. He has experience in the field unlike other prof. you will earn your grade in his class.
Good teacher and good looking!
You aren't going to skate though his class, but I can honestly say he is one of the best teachers I have ever had! You will get a good grade if you don't miss class, take notes, and read the book.
He really cares about each and every individual student. I have taken other BIO courses and did not learn anything until I took his class. I would recommend him to anyone that loves biology.
Dr. Smith is THE best teacher I have EVER had. He is the most fun teacher at Sinclair. He tries to drill the material into you. I can honestly say if you actually want to learn biology or anything medical take his class. Read the book, do his study guides and participate in class and you should pass!
He was helpful and used life experiences to explain the material. However, he really just was not a very nice person. He yells a lot, which takes some getting used to. I would suggest taking him if you're a really thick skinned person.
One of the best professors I've ever had. Actually made me want to learn the subject, and he really cares that you take something away from his class. Seems harsh at first but after a few lectures it gets fun. Very experienced in the field, makes real-life comparisons until he knows for sure you understand. Read, study, ask questions, show up, A.
strongly recommend AGAINST taking him. very rude in class. yells at you if you are late to class when on numerous occasions he walks in late with no explanation. just read this article in the Clarion about him saying he loves to "smile" at people.. never smiled once in the lab i had him for
I had for for Biology and Management. If you want to LEARN the material, take him, he will tell you everything you need to know, but you'll have to WORK, after all, you are in college. Good guy!
He is the worst teacher I have ever had. He was so rude, disrespectful, and played favourites so obviouslly it was absurd. Iwould ask him for help and he would flat out refuse or just ignore me
First, I make sure to call him DOCTOR Smith, he earned that title and for good reason, he is very smart. Second, Biology is not easy for most of us, don't blame him for failing grades. He will tell you through lecture everything on the test, take good notes and study..you will learn a ton.
All he does is read from the book. Plays favorites horribly! I would not recommend taking.
I know a lot of people here don't like him but personally I did. He was the first teacher since 8th grade that made science interesting for me. He is also very funny and talks about a lot of real serious issues that other teachers would avoid. The class is extremely hard. Be prepared to put a lot of effort in if you want to pass this class.
Dr.Smith is one of the BEST professors at Sinclair. I enjoyed both his classes and lectures for 111/112/113. His class is not easy, however, he will give you all the help you need. He has experience working in the field not only in teaching and he brings that experience with him to class. He applies biology to REAL life, makes it personal.
He is a very rude teacher, I really like biology but hate this proffessor. Take Luken or Wilson they are much better. He yells at the class and makes fun of students. I got an A in the class because i like the subject not because of him.
HE IS THE WORST TEACHER I HAVE EVER HAD! HE WAS COCKY, WOULD NOT SLOW DOWN TO EXPLAIN THINGS IN MORE DETAIL, HIOS HANDWRITING IS HORRIBLE AND HE WILL ASK IF YOU ARE MAKING FUN OF IT IF YOU ASK HIM WHAT A WORD SAYS. WILL NOT MAKE POWERPOINTS. ALWAYS HOLD CLASS ATLEAST 5 MINUTES PAST. WOULD NEVER EVER TAKE HIM OR RECCOMEND HIM TO ANYONE!!!
I didn't like this teacher at all. It was hard to understand what he was talking about. He gave poor lectures. I could not understand his writing on the board.
It was impossible to understand his lectures. He didn't write clearly enough on the chalkboard and was extremely disorganized during lecture. He was rude to students while trying to be funny. His tests were extremely difficult to pass. He gave study guides, but they didn't help, then he stopped giveing them all together.
AWEFUL INSTRUCTOR!He'd loss his thought often, talks about retiring at seventy-five because he's lonely and unhappy with his life. SO WHAT GET OVER IT! I need my education. The lecture is not the test and he wants you to babtsit your class mates and know their every move such as why their not in his class. I paid you do your job for real. Don't tak
Dr. Smith is my favorite biology instructor. He loves biology and cares about his students, although he doesn't always show it.
I have taken Smith for Biology 111 & 112. He is my favorite professor. You must read before class. If you read you will do fine. If you do not take his lab that goes along with lecture you will get lost! He goes over more info in depth in lab than in the class. If you take his lecture and lab you will pass!
Annoying
If you are looking for a teacher who doesn't care, or an easy A then this is not the course for you. After the class you will know 10 x more than you ever dreamed of knowing about biology. You have to try. His tests are horribly hard but he is fair. I tried excedingly hard in his class but still got a B. He is a good person, and funny
I had him or lab. Thank god I didn't have him for lecture. He was the only reason I didn't get an A. I wish I would have had Mersfelder for lab. He is arrogant, talks for his own amusement mostly, and his handwriting is incredibly awful for any teacher. Avoid.
This is the second class with this professor. He has a great passion for his field. He is animated and proficient. Sometimes he is unclear, though he will work hard to make sure you understand. His class is difficult if you don't attend lecture and read the text.I find him helpful and motivating. I will definitely take another class with him.
Ok he gets way too many bad reviews. So here is the truth. His lectures are okay, and yes his handwriting is horrible. How I got a B in the class--I read the chapter(s) that were on the test right before class and got a B. The test were straight from the book not lectures. Lab was hard with him but he tells you exactly what to study!
This is a review for his lab class. I had him for lecture as well--liked lecture much better. Lab was hard I'm not gonna lie, but I think it is hard no matter who you have. He tells you EXACTLY what to study!!! He is a great guy and truly wants you to THINK!!! Would take him again!
Prof...I mean Dr. Smith is a really good teacher, although I did not particulary care for his attitude. He runs his class room like a boot camp (i think he retired from the military) and he is very loud. I did better in lab when I took him but he got on my nerves! I was so happy when the quarter was over. good thing we were not on semesters lol!
Although u didn't do that well in his class it was all on my end. He is a very good teacher. He covers material and still makes you be responsible for some bc he's not going to just give you the answer and I think that's what a lot of people don't like. He also is funny, nice and shows concern for his students. I would take him again!
Dr. Smith is not the type of professor who is going to let you get away with resting on your laurels. He challenges you to take responsibility for your learning - which you should be doing anyway (this is college). He makes subject matter interesting and relatable. Go to class. Do your reading. Don't take him too seriously. You will be fine.
His methods might work for others, but DEF not if you're prone to anxiety or stress. I cried the first day because he made me feel so stupid (I've never taken a bio class in my life-so I was a slow learner). I couldn't concentrate in class, I was too busy being on the verge of a panic attack the whole time. He gets loud, rude, and obnoxious.
Dr. Smith is a wonderful person if you get to know him but a hard to the line professor. You have to do what your supposed to, no slacking. Go to class, take notes, read and re-read the book. Flash cards helped alot to study. All test questions are out of the book. His handwriting sucks, get over it. He loves his job. And loves to pick on people.
This is a tough class, partially due to me, partially Dr. Smith. I needed to devote more time to this class for study. Biology is not a natural interest for me, but a requirement. Dr. Smith is tough, but a fun guy. ou have to get to know him, and learn to let him roll off your back. He can be condescending and rude. He can lack focus in lecture
Dr. Smith is a really great guy who actually makes his students learn the material. His handwriting is horrid and at times he talks really fast and is hard to understand. However, I am so glad I had him as a professor. He is challenging but I learned so much. I am definitely taking his classes again.
Dr. Smith is good at weeding out the people who are not willing to put in the work to pass a college class. He assigns no home work and only asks students to read the book, take notes, and study. if your willing to do that your fine. if not, your not going to pass college anyway. I would recomend Dr. Smith to anyone
I had Dr. Smith for lab. He was intimidating at first however he ended up being a really funny, nice guy. I actually learned a lot! If he repeats anything more than once it will probably be on an exam! Take pictures of the molecules when you do that lab and know them for the 1st exam-6 or 7 questions (out of 25) will be to identify some of them.
I have Mr. Smith for lab. To be honest it is not a lab it is a lecture. If you do not pay attention or try to learn I pity you as he will make you pay for it. He is hard-core military type guy. You have to adjust to his style or you will do miserably with him. Goodluck you will need it.
He is very strict on attendance, but tries to help you understand the material by comparing it to common things. Class participation is important, and it is a hard class. He sparked my interest for biology and am taking him again next quarter.
Mr. Smith is intimidating at first, but he really is funny and nice and he really cares about his students. Attendance is a must, and lab is more of a second lecture. Reading the text outside class is REQUIRED to pass with higher than a C, as he talks fast and the tests are from the book. It's a lot of work, but he's a good teacher.
Wasnt the easiest teacher in the world but I had no problem with him. As long as you study, work hard, and show up on time you will do fine. He doesnt tolerate late people. But if he says go o the study lab then you should definitely go.
He is one of the best teachers I have ever had and he makes biology fun and interesting and relates it to real life! Just read the chapter and you will be fine!
Dr. Smith is not the teacher for everyone. If you can't be bothered to attend class on time or at all best not pick him. I found him to be a very good teacher and learned quite a bit from him and his personal experience. Reading the textbook and studying is a must. Overall Dr. Smith is a good teacher and is worth taking.
Challenging & at times intimidating, but once you get used to him he is ok. Lectures a lot in lab, sometimes off topic or overly detailed. Expects you to have read book before class. Will call you out 7 pick on you if you don't have the answer. NEVER BE LATE OR MISS A CLASS! He isn't an easy teacher, but he knows a lot & will teach you a lot.
Do not miss or be late for his class. His knowledge of Biology is truly amazing. Be prepared for lectures and taking a lot of notes, sometimes seems overwhelming with the speed of lecture. READ READ READ your chapters.
Don't be late, you will learn this on the first day. Other than his constant nagging about tardiness he is a great professor and makes his class really easy to understand. Plus he gives out great study guides that makes it next to impossible to fail this class.
I had Smith for Lab. He is one crazy man! He has a powerful personality so if you get your feelings hurt easily, don't take him. Or if you absolutly hate talking in class, don't take him. He will try and embarass you! He knows so much and is a really good teacher! I would recommend him.
Dr. Smith does not make apologies for who he is. On the outside he comes off as a gruff angry guy but he cares. To get an A pay really close attention in class, read the book and fill out his study guide. Prob wouldn't do him for lab, lecture only. He will over teach you but it's ok, the information is fascinating. Don't be afraid of him.
Dr. Smith is a good teacher in the respect that he doesn't use Power Point and actually teaches the class. However, he has this tendency to favor some students over others and it shows. Also, AVOID for lab, you hardly have time to actually get to the lab due to his lecturing almost the whole time. Also seems to have a complete disdain for policy.
Dr. Smith is a good teacher in that there is not the typical reliance solely on Power Point. However, Dr. Smith seems to believe that policy does not apply to him and simply ignores it. Also he is horrible for lab lecturing and leaving almost no time to perform the lab itself.
I was scared to death of taking a Bio class, but after Dr. Smith, I know I can accomplish anything, b/c he makes you learn the subject material. It is not handed to you on a Power Point Pres. DO HIS STUDY GUIDE!!! You will do well on his tests! I loved listening to his fascinating stories! I highly recommend him.
Come to class and be on time. His test come straight from the study guide. SO DO THE STUDY GUIDE!!! Do not believe the other comments, he is boring with a few interesting stories here and there. Overall, the class is easy if you do the study guide. TAKE SOMEONE ELSE FOR LAB!!!!!
Ok for lecture. You'll do well if you can memorize the textbook since the tests are all out the textbook. FOR LOVE OF GOD, TAKE SOMEONE ELSE FOR LAB. Lectures straight through lab, you never actually do the lab. Very unhelpful there. Was nice enough as a person, and had interesting stories for biology. The class as a whole failed lab.
I enjoyed my time in this class Dr Smith seems very rough and gruff on the outside but he is a very caring teacher If you get embarrassed or your feelings hurt easily be careful he likes to make people squirm Before taking class I had zero interest in Math or Science but after his class I have a whole new view of them. If you can take him Great man
Dr. Smith is a very intelligent professor. He doesn't have time to waste on students who aren't there to learn the material, so if you don't take biology/learning seriously find another professor. Be on time, do the study guides as they are literally the test questions. Overall I enjoyed his class - he knows so many random facts.
Dr. Smith is a very intelligent guy and there is no denying that, but his lectures were just plain awful. He would constantly talk for 90 minutes with no pause for any misunderstanding students may have had. If you don't know a lot about biology before taking this class, I do not recommend Dr. Smith.
Mr. Smith has been the best proffessor I have ever had. So good I graduded 4 years ago and I still consider him the best to this day. I have horrible social anxiety, so taking him the first time was horrible, but he is a great proffesor who teaches you to learn! Yes u will hate him but u will grow to love him TRUST ME! HE IS THE BEST!
Dr Smith is a different kinda of guy and his randomness demands your attention. His study guides are very helpful and if you study those you will assure yourself atleast a B on his tests. He loves Biology and takes attendance in lab and his classroom serious.
Smith is a great person outside of class. As a student, though, I have always had a hard time understanding science. Smith did not clearly explain anything. He would randomly jump around into different subjects. The only reason I passed his class is because of his review guides, they had everything you needed to know for the test.
An excellent and knowledgeable teacher, Dr. Smith knows his material inside and out and if you actually read the book (which I highly suggest doing) then his lectures will become more valuable to you as his clarification of the information is helpful. His study guides help you commit the massive amounts of information to memory to help pass tests.
Funny person outside of class, but TERRIBLE in lecture and lab. Does not stop talking to help students, doesn't actually do the lab, and will embarass you any way he can.
Dr. Smith is very knowledgeable in biology. He knows what he is talking about and does his best to make sure the students are able to by the end of the course. I would not suggest this course to someone who doesn't want to put in a lot of effort and will skip class a lot. Every lecture is important and reading outside of the class helps with tests.
Smith is a former Staff Sargent in the USAF so keep that in mind when you enter his class. He expects participation, punctuality and focus in his class and lab. That being said he is a deeply passionate educator and will go out of his way to assist students outside of class if you display a genuine wish to succeed.
I didn't really need my textbook. He gives chapter study guides which are exactly what the test is. Just need the internet for answers.
When he lectures he talks fast and expects you to be able to keep up. Gets mad when you ask to repeat something. Very rude to students, has even made a few cry. I have a B average in the class and he threatened to fail me if I missed anymore lectures even when I told him I can't learn by the way he teaches. Don't recommend, most fail.
He's a funny teacher gets off topic alot but seems to bring it back and make it interesting. THE BOOK IS A MUST! His quizzes are based like 70% out of the book and he will intentionally not touch it in lecture just to make sure you are studying. Will help if you ask. Labs are great!! Just be respectful and study and his class is an easy pass.
i took him for gen bio 1 & 2 and glad i did. my favorite professor after the first day of class. starts strict then as the semester goes on and he gets to know everyone better he tells you life stories that are very interesting. would recommend 100%
I loved Dr. Smith. He truly cares about his students and does his best to help you understand. All tests were exactly the study guide that he gives you prior. All answers were on quizlet which made it easy to know what to study. Would recommend him everyday of every week! He's an awesome teacher!
I loved Dr. Smith. Had him for bio 1 and got a B. He truly cares about his students and wants to see them succeed. Does his best to help you understand the material. Not an easy A class, you have to study (use study guide) Need to read sections prior to class or you'll be lost in lecture. If you don't like sarcasm, this is not the class for you.
Honestly, when I first visited campus there were alot of rumors about him being this and that, not nice , strict. But here is the truth he is the most outstanding, couragious, inspirational, educated and role model Professor I have ever meet. I wish I could take his classes again.
He is a spectacular teacher who goes beyond for this students & is determined to make all his students successful in life.
Dr. Smith is a wonderful teacher. I took his class for both Bio 1 and 2. Definitely get the book that is required for the class and the study guides are exactly like the tests. He really does care for his students and wants the best for his students. His stories are inspirational and full of life lessons. Don't be late to class and do your work.
Dr. Smith is amazing! The first day of class for Bio 2, he seemed strict, but I've come to love him as a professor! He really cares for his students and their futures. READ THE TEXTBOOK. The tests were more textbook oriented than lecture so you have to read. Also, pay attention in class, he randomly calls on people. But he will make you laugh!
Not even going back. But if you like professors that humiliate, belittle and disrespect you, he's your guy.
Dr. Smith is a character. In order to pass his class you HAVE TO READ THE BOOK. He gives out a study guide that is basically the test. His handwriting is horrible :/ he rubs a lot of people the wrong way, but I think hes funny.
Hardest class I've ever taken. I do the study guide and read the chapters and still barely get C's. He's nice but his tests are really hard. Class is "obligatory" so you have to come or you won't pass. He has some extra points available on the tests. He doesn't put grades in so you have to keep track of your own grade throughout the semester.
Don't recommend if you care a lot about your GPA. Tests have minimal correlation with lecture. If you really want to pass, study the heck out of every study guide he gives you. He's very hard to follow during lecture.
Dr. Smith knows his stuff, but he treats everyone as they have had a previous background in biology. Take a different professor if you can. His class is scored out of 6 tests for an entire semester. So if youre a good test taker and dont want to do homework then maybe youd do well...
he is an okay teacher. he loves to call on people
Dr. Smith was by far the best professor I've ever had at Sinclair. In fact I can confidently say I wouldnt be the person I am today without having him as a professor. The Biology class I took was one of the challenging classes I took because it was deeper than biology. I was challenged as a person. He is hands down 10/10. Tia
I started to really enjoy him until we got more into his lectures. His handwriting is awful, and if youre a visual learner do not take his class. You have to read the book in order to pass. He also made a comment about how some students are slow when he calls on his students to answer a question. He HATES phones.
I dropped this class 20 minutes after I left his bio and lab. He didnt introduce himself but instead said this will not work and began throwing desks and tossing them across the room. He belittles you. Makes you get a different than required textbook. Horrible. Idk is not an answer and neither is silence or being wrong. All he did was scream.
Dr. Smith is a great teacher who really cares about his students. At first, he seemed strict and made me nervous, but I then really enjoy his class. There are 3 tests and online quizzes. READ THE TEXTBOOK if you want to do the tests well. Also, pay attention in class, he randomly calls on people. But he will make you laugh! Highly recommend.
I loved having Dr. Smith. Hes hilarious and really cares about his students. If you have thin skin then this class isn't for you. There is no homework but be prepared to read and study in order to pass the tests.
I was nervous to have Dr. Smith as a professor after reading the reviews on here, but hes actually a nice guy when you get to know him. The only grades we had in this class were based off of tests. I strongly suggest doing the review guides and reading the textbook. He doesnt post grades online so youll have to keep track of them yourself.
At times the quizzes given were not of the content studied for that specific quiz; graded really heavy on assignments; Lab portion was really hard; content due too close together which enabled very little time to prepare.
This professor is the reason I dropped out of sinclair. He was the only one to offer the courses I needed. Hes rude and the only grades you can get are test grades so if you have test anxiety youre screwed. Hard to follow in lecture and he doesnt like to stop to answer questions. Terrible handwriting makes it hard to take notes.
I had Dr. Smith for the lab portion, and he would best be described as passionate and intense. He expects you to know the material before class but his lectures were engaging and entertaining. Be quick on your feet and study the pre-lab work and you'll do just fine.
I had Dr. Smith for both lecture and lab, good luck trying to translate his handwriting, make friends in your lab/lecture section! Do the preworks and quizzes they're easy and will help your grade! Some advice, don't have your phone out he WILL call you out on it if he sees it. Take advantage of on campus tutoring and the powerpoints in elearn.
I really did not like this guy's style. He relies heavily on in class participation, and answering question that come out of nowhere with unclear answers. He also doesn't use slides or power points, which make it hard to keep up with his lectures. It might just be me and being autistic, but I really just didn't like him.
Easily the best professor I have ever had. I changed my major going into my junior year to Biology because of him. This is proving to be a very difficult decision, but I always remember the inspiration from Dr. Smith. He has become a mentor of mine, and I am extremely thankful I took his class and met him.
Professor Smith is a great person, but his class is very hard. There is an exam every 2 weeks leaving little room to prepare. So, I suggest staying a week ahead, reading, and taking notes before the corresponding lecture. No phones, tablets, or computers - must buy paper textbook if you want to follow along in his lecture (highly suggested)
I loved Dr. Smith's class for his engaging personality and humor. He treats students as individuals and wants everyone to succeed. The demanding curriculum with frequent exams isn't really on him. His lectures can be jumbled, but his examples help. He's not very responsive to emails, but I still recommend him because he's interesting and memorable.
Dr. Smith was easily my favorite professir I have ever had. I would always look forward to coming to his class he kept it interesting, told life stories I will never forget, and used real life examples to explain content. If you do not like an interactive classsroom do not take this class. I HIGHLY reccommend Dr.Smith to anyone.
Professor Smith runs a challenging but engaging class. Lectures are worth attending, and the textbook is essential for success. Utilize study aids like unstuck study and stay on top of course material to excel. Overall, a rewarding but demanding course.
This professor was so rude to me, his class is amazing but he isn't a good professor. His lectures teaches you a lot and you have to stay on top of things. Either then that good luck!
in my experience, he expects you to know biology already, he doesnt like questions, he will call on you and expect you to already know the answer with snappy fingers, his handwriting makes it extremely difficult to follow along and he has no slide shows or power points to follow along. if you have soft skin, dont take this class. very demanding.
My feelings on Prof. Smith were so 50/50. He genuinely seeks out your best interest and doesn't take any BS. If you're sensitive/anxious this class is absolutely not for you. He likes to call on you and give you crap for not knowing stuff, and his writing can be extremely hard to read. However he is a good professor, his teaching style is unique.
He can be intimidating before you know his sense of humor. Once you learn to laugh alongside him, his class is a lot of fun! His handwriting is pretty bad, I recommend sitting close.
