willis has trouble speaking clearly, spelling and agreeing with the textbook. he is thoroughly confusing and seems to get a kick out of making it tougher for students. i lucked out with an A because of his addition error. dont chance it, dont take willis.
He is the best teacher i ever had. He gives quizzes at the beginning of classes because he wants students to come to class. Hes' quizzes or easy and everything he lecture in class, he writes it on the board. Again, he is a great teacher!
Take his class or lab if you are willing to put in a lot of effort into drawing, artworks, internet software. He tend to make students learn by experience, he answers students questions without REALLY answering. His tests are fair, and he curves
He knows his material, but he is not nice to his students. He is constantly making sarcastic remarks and students are not willing to interact for fear of being verbally attached by him. I would not recommend him.
Mark Willis is a very nice & knowledgeable person, yet I would rather screwdriver myself in the forehead than sit in his class again. He is nothing but monotone throughout the whole class, and does not seem to test on what is covered...
His class is hard for couple reasons. He lecture every single words from textbook and he expects us to know and remember them. He seems to give quiz for every chapter and the questions are very hard to answer if you didn't read textbook well. In my o
TOOHARD! gives a quiz practically every other day.hardly writes anything on board so hard to tell what he believes is important and whats not.came to him for help once at a conference, but he didnt help AT ALL.dont take his class if you dont want to suffer
VERY VERY HARD. Unless your a science major you wont know whats going on. I wanted to cry in his class. More than half dropped his class. Extremly hard and your lucky to get a C.
The greatest teacher of all time! I loved Mr. Willis and I passed his class with flying colors and I missed a few weeks. Get to know him, talk to him and you will do great in the class. He is not that hard. The best part of the class was the talk. Such a good class. I learned so mcuh b/c he was hard
this class was very easy, lots of quizzes but they were open book and notes, tests made up of quizzes and exactly what was covered in class and book. He is just very dull and boring, needs to spice it up a bit
GREAT TEACHER. ALTHOUGH HARD YOU WILL LEARN ALOT.I PASSED WITH FLYING COLORS SO I CAN BE DONE. HE REALLY CARES ABOUT THE SUBJECT. HE'S A GOOD TEACHER.
Got him in lab and that was because that guy that was supposed to teach quit. He is helpful but cannot undertsand what he talks about, treat his students like all of us are sciencemajors and are passionate in this subject, too much work for one unit. DO NOT TAKE HIM IN ANY CLASS!!!
ok. this guy is worst teacher i've ever got in my whole entire school life. he is not willing to help student but rather giving so much hard time. i had quizz every other day his homework wasnt clear enough.my last semester before i transfer to UCI, it was horrible. harder than any of class i took
I'm telling you, Do not Ever take his class. He is one of worse teacher I've ever seen in my life. He is very unclear of pretty much everything he teaches. Plus, he throws weird corny a$$ jokes occationally during this Forever-boring lecture which would make you sick after two classes. In addition, he doesn't grade well and has nasty personality.
This guy is an idiot..he shouldn't teach at all...very unclear, lectures are boring as hell..
Well he's definitely not an idiot, he's just not a good teacher. He can give a 5-hour speech on anything, but he can't simplify it. Class was hard and VERY unclear. I never knew what he wanted on lab write ups. Luckily you're in groups so if you work together, maybe you'll come up with right answers... you'll have to constantly ask questions tho
I took his lab and I cried teh first day. His class is sooooooooooo hard unless your a science major. Sorry rocks are not that interesting. I barely passed his class with going every day and getting help. He expects his students to have the knowledge of a science major! DO NOT TAKE HIM
this guy is so boring he puts wallpaper to sleep. Not all teachers have to be comedians, but they should be ableto make learning interesting. This guy should give up teaching and stick to researching behind his desk away from human contact..
he is not helpfull and expects way too much from the students.
I think Mr. Willis is an awesome teacher! Definatley NOT EASY, but he teaches the material extremly well and you can tell he has a passion for what he does. I would take Tom Norton if your not interested in Geology and just need the credit, he simplifies the material more. But Willis is awesome if your going major in Geology or like Earth Science!
THIS WAS AN ONLINE CLASS! Very dry sence of humor, the assignments were tough, and there was always a quiz or test to take. For being online, he was as helpful as one could expect.
fun field trips!
Marc Willis is a nerd who lacks the teaching skills required for a class like this. Willis has lame one liners and the class doesn't even pay attention to him. When asked for help he constantly distracts u and doesnt get to the point. HARD TESTS AND QUIZZEZ . ONLY FOR THE BORING take this class
I tooke this class online, and got an A. It is an easy class as long as you do the assignments and take the quizzes. Take them as many times as you can because the questions show up on his exams later. Take this class online, it is worth it!
(online) Easy "A". Do not hold your breath though if you have a question...he will NOT respond! Very Annoying! Terrible instructor, but you will get the grade you want.
K, what U need to do to do well. Look through the chapter about 20 mins before class, after each test look at all UR wrong answers and drill them into UR head, go to class everyday, write something down for notes(IT WILL HELP), and study for UR tests. If U do this U WILL get an easy A. PS IF you don't put any effort in the lab you probably willFail
Do not take this class, His exams are very hard, and all he does is read the powerpoint. SO it gets really boring. Probably one of the work professor in FJC.
(Online Class) Useless, absolutely completely useless teacher. Does NOT return emails, takes weeks (or more) to return tests. His assignments contain odd questions and his typing is somtimes not understandable. He is very vague, and does not take criticism well.
Disorganized. Avoid this teacher, you will hate yourself if you don't.
ONLINE- It's true that he's not helpful; no response to emails, slow to post grades. Assignments & discussions were confusing. Quizzes can be taken unlimited times; questions for exams came word for word off quizzes. Learning online is done by the student, but the book is helpful. Take him if you must, but there are better profs. Still, I got an A.
His lectures are useless & boring.grades are only based on the tests his he doesn't give any h.w. Every 2 weeks you will have a test! Even the extra credit wasn't that easy.
Very fun class... included a weekend feild trip to catalina! although most of the time was devoted to geology and marine biology... it was a good time! most importantly go to this class remembering to take notes and to enjoy your professors. hes a good guy and knows a lot about a lot! actually engage in conversation, i promise you will enjoy it!
this teacher is in love w/his field but no one else seems to get it. u dont even need to go to class just show up for the test read ur book you'll be fine all he does is read off of his powerpoint.lab hard intense work,
I found his sense of humor helpful in staying awake during class. He certainly knows what he's teaching and if you do all your work and study you'll pass the class.
A different course & a different experience. Unlike his ESC 100 class, the camping class was fanstatic! He shares his knowledge of geology, & everyone has a great time. I left knowing more about the geology of the Mojave desert than I ever thought possible. Others in my group agreed: take him for ESC 198, but take someone else for ESC 100/100L.
Pretty cool teacher i just had him for lab the labs are sometimes fun but i would definitely would take him instead of Lozinsky.
All he does is teach from the powerpoint presentaions in class. BORING! Labs are ok. He just stands up there and reads from his powerpoints that were taken from the book. Tests are VERY hard. Expects you to stay interested.
Catalina class was really fun. I thought it was going to be boring learning about rocks but he actually made it interesting and I learned a lot. It is clear he cares a lot about what he teaches. He is willing to make sure you understand, very helpful, and encourages participation.
Teaches from powerpoints, every class. Lectures are ok, field trips are fun. He has some pretty good jokes/humor. Funny guy. Classes seem LONG and tests are pretty hard. Don't use the book at all, but need to print out powerpoints. Interesting and boring at the same time.
I took this class online. All you have to do is read the text book. You get unlimited attempts on the quizzes; take advantage of that. Tests aren't easy, but if you take the class online you can use the book. Just stay on top of the assignments and you'll pass. I spoke to him on the phone once and he was very kind.
I am no longer a straight "A" student because of this class. All I can say is that I gave it my all, and still ended up with just a "B"
Really nice guy - Geology can be a pretty difficult subject and the class takes a lot of time in terms of comprehension and digestion of materials. I have taken 2 classes with this dude, both took a lot of time. The difference between an A and a B is talking to him. If you ask him something about the classwork he gives you so much help!

You have to be really focus in the class. In order to truly do well on the online exams is to read the book and understand it. There are some short answers fill in and if you don't know the material you will not pass the exams. Overall, professor is great in answer your questions and not as much homework.
Online exams but each one with about 7 or so essay questions, He does not answer emails, also dont expect your score from each exam until a month later
Probably a good geologist, but a bad teacher. He lost labs(didnt hand some back u turned in, didnt record the score of people's labs he handed back, lab partners with the same answers yet different scores, etc. the way he grades is confusing. Tells u to draw what u see, then u get no points and a "?". Dont take if want to keep ur straight A avg.
Since taking this class I have found myself randomly identifying rocks, trying to distinguish the cause of hill and mountain formations, thinking about groundwater, etc. Fun, learned a lot, easy if you show up and take notes, multi-choice tests, not much hw, Prof is funny, lots of pop quizzes. Don't rely on others in lab class if you want an A.
He is really tough & his grading is confusing sometimes but, he is very interested in what hes talking about and I like that. Hes funny & really nice. His class is a bit boring, but just get some coffee & write down his funny little drawings & you'll be good to go. He doesn't give study guides. But read the book. Lab is very hard! Time consuming.
Grades a bit hard, but just ask questions and he'll help you out. Pay attention to lectures. Text not required, but still download everything offline and read it. Dry sense of humor.
took his online class dont know him that well but seemed cool
I took earth science survey 101. When you talk to him in his office or after class, he is very willing to help. Warm-hearted and good-natured. The problem was he only gave 20 questions for every 4 exams that covers about 3 chapter each time and 5 points essay question. Study super hard. No extra credit. Don't take if you are not a textbook-reader.
Took his online class.. i have to admit its very time consuming :( You HAVE to read read read and, most importantly, UNDERSTAND every concept. Don't just memorize definitions & processes. I would've continued taking the class if I wasn't taking a bunch of other science courses. The material is very interesting, but extremely tedious :(
HARDEST ONLINE CLASS EVER! His instructions are unclear and the amount of work is impossible to keep up with. He gives a lot of tests and quizzes that are extremely hard. You have to read and understand every single detail in the chapters in order to pass. Overall, way too much work and it is very difficult and he is not helpful. DO NOT TAKE HIM!
Online class was really bad. Don't expect him to answer your questions. Do the reading. Save your answers from the quizzes b/c they will be the whole final, which is cumulative. The material is interesting, but the class is pretty bad. He expects you to be an expert in Geology.
Im taking the summer class, so it is harder than regular class. The good: very knowledgeable about the class, clear, helpful, funny(im asleep when he made joke most of the time tho), Now, here the tough part, test questions are extremely shaddy, 35% from the lecture 65% from the reading. READ THE BOOK THOUGHTFULLY AND IN DETAIL IN you WANT AN A.
I am currently taking his class and he is VERY DIFFICULT. He says that the tests outline the chapters read, but that so totally wrong. It is an online class which is suppose to outline the book. Most of the class feels like he sets you up to fail. He is not helpful!
It's really simple to pass with a C. If you try hard and study you'll get an A. His lectures do get boring at times but it's on the test so pay attention! He curves all of of his tests and there's no homework. Highly recommend!
I took several of this guy's classes. Just study and do your work. Not "easy" but reasonable expectations. COMMUNICATE with him. PAY ATTENTION IN CLASS and ASK QUESTIONS and you'll be fine. Who woulda figured? His expectations aren't what's difficult, it's the material that takes getting used to.
I took class online. I wouldn't say its terrible, but it wasnt great. Every sunday you have a quiz or exam, or a combo of the 2. Every 2-3 weeks, you have a small ass. or post on discussion board. work is easy, book is good, but prof never responds to emails. It can be frustrating. Take it if you're REALLY good on your own. Don't expect much help.
Mr. Willis was the best Science Teacher Ive had so far!! Hes funny, warm hearted and doesn't mess around. You use the text ALL THE TIME. However, all of his tests are based on the concepts in his power points, so print those, ask questions, GO TO CLASS, and you should be fine. His expectations are reasonable for a college course. I loved it!! =o)
My geology I have ever had. If you pay attention and take notes quizzes are easy and tests are not hard. The lab class all lab gave detailed instructions but he still explained it.
He is an awesome teacher! Rocks Rock, LOL! Seriously he is a good teacher very helpful and does his best to prepare you for tests.
He won't give you comments on your exams if you made mistakes, sometimes questions are not from the chapters he assigned, and never really answer your questions concerning your work.
Not a great professor. His lectures are hard to follow along with and he grades his tests and quizzes very harshly. It's not an impossible class to pass but it's not the most exciting or interesting presentation of the material. However, he IS a nice guy to talk to and was very helpful in his office hours.
Willis was by far the worst teacher I've had while attending Fullerton College. Very lazy and NEVER replies to emails. Managed with a B (87%) but I really wouldnt have taken him if I knew just how bad he was
Got a B in his class, but will never EVER recommend him to anyone! Worst teacher ever
Tests are difficult, but he gives you plenty of opportunities to do well.
Bought the book, needed it ONCE for end of semester project. Told us Final was open note, then changed his mind 10 minutes before class but it's okay because the final is "only 20 questions". Very tough grader.
HE IS A VERY NICE PROFESSOR, BUT MAN THAT CLASS IS HARD. FIRST MIDTERM HE STARTED OFF SAYING "JUST SO YOU GUYS KNOW THE AVERAGE SCORE STUDENTS OBTAIN ON THIS IS LESS THAN 50%" ... HE WAS RIGHT.
I took his 7 A.M. class, it was super hard to follow. ICAs will be super toughly graded, First exam majority will get 50% and under according to him. Told us that if we fail the first test, just withdrawl
tough grader, very strict, and has pop quizzes
Mr. Willis uses "Edutainment," which is hilarious and very helpful when it comes to paying attention in class. There is a lot of homework/in-class assignments but they do help you w/ studying for midterms & exams. I would recommend this class for those who have trouble staying awake. Unlike a lot of teachers, he actually cares.
He doesn't believe in study guides. When he does give a "study guide" it's very general and not specific AT ALL. This class is a challenge so be prepared to work for it. Tests are challenging due to the amount of material he covers (he covers a LOT of material.) Pay attention to his drawings and whatever he writes on the board as well. Good luck.
I really enjoyed this class this semester! He's really punny, and I love me a good pun! He does go off lecture sometimes, but it always relates to the class in some way or another. The extra tidbits weren't on tests, but they were great to learn anyways! All in all, he's a fun teacher with a relatively easy class if you can keep up!
I took Mr. Willis' Online Earth Science Survey class and I have to say that this class was literally the hardest class I have ever taken. I know that it is an online class and they tend to be a little harder than normal classes, but this class is like being left in the dark for 4 months without a flashlight.
Show up, he doesn't accept make up work for labs. Lab assignments were more difficult than I was expecting. He enjoys watching you struggle to find the answer but is usually pretty helpful if you have questions in class or via email. He tries to be funny and keep it light so you have to give him credit there.
You are quizzed weekly on reading, so the book is required to pass. You also get some sort of assignment usually bi weekly. Assignments are pretty difficult and often require some sort of hands on experimentation. He is pretty helpful if you email him with questions. You only have to come into class for the midterm and the final.
If you need help, don't hesitate to bug him! His lectures are interesting and explained well. There is 4 tests, about 10 in class assignments, and takes attendance every day. Points will add up! READ THE BOOK and go over notes for the test and you should be fine. He does everything on a curve which helps. Lab class is harder than lecture.
Professor Willis is definitely an interesting character and I would highly recommend taking his class! Though it is not an easy A, it is worth the effort! Willis is always willing to help if you need it and he'll always make an effort to make you smile. He is hilarious and makes class exciting!
The dad jokes are fine and all but too many in class assignments, he expects you to remember his favorite rock as a test question, his test questions are funny sometimes but can actually become confusing. Earth science is boring and he doesn't really make it enjoyable to learn. Meh.
The lab for this class is much more fun than the lecture aspect.
First off, it's all on powerpoint. He pulls stuff from the book, puts it on the powerpoint, lectures, and uploads it MyGateway. He gives 2 exams, 4 quizzes (1 drop), 4 labs (1 drop), and requires 2 field trips. Lets you do a self guided trip for extra credit. MEMORIZE THOSE POWERPOINTS! Quizzes include one short answer that is moderate difficulty.
Mr. Willis is very funny and knows his stuff about ES. No EC bc it's "extra grading", but VERY understanding about late homework +labs. Something I wish I'd known is that the tests are VERY ANALYTICAL. You can't just memorize- you truly have to understand + ID photo with term name. Don't buy the book his tests are purely lecture based.
So understanding
Awesome professor!
Good professor. Don't skip lecture!
Professor Willis is very knowledgeable but make sure you read the labs before you attend class. If you miss class or assignments you will not pass. His sarcasm makes the class fun.
SA assignments are hard but the quizzes are easy. Tests are based on SA assignments.
His questions on the given assignments contains lots of grammatical errors, making it very difficult to comprehend. For online quizzes/tests, he uses Blackboard which is very unreliable as it logged me out automatically when I moved onto the next question. And takes too long(1-2 days) to respond to an email.
He's tough, but he's good. I suggest taking his lab at the same time as lecture. They go hand in hand. He funny, sarcastically funny! Laugh as his jokes, your sure to get noticed in a good way. He's willing to help. If your not a ES major, this can all be foreign as it was to me, but I still enjoyed learning about it. Weekly HW for sure!
Great professor who cares about the subject, which makes it enjoyable. If you attend class, ask questions, and do the homework you will do well. You get what you put into it.
He is hilarious, very sarcastic. I took his lab class and man is it difficult. Lots of students dropped. When i went to talk to him about my grade he was very nice and honest. He told me ask questions because it will help you better answer the lab questions and will help you gain points. Ask questions and you will pass.
Willis is the man. Professor Willis is extremely smart and he kinda resembles Walter White from Breaking bad , both physically and intellectually. I advise to pair up or create a study group because if you yourself are not a Earth Science major it will be Hard for you to pass the class on your own. His puns make the class so much enjoyable!!
horrible methods of teaching. his sarcasm is quite rude and will yell at you. his homework is mostly busy work and his labs are so confusing and difficult. would not recommend!
Do NOT recommend! Willis has a sour attitude and is rude. His lectures are all over the place with so much info, he doesnt give study guides or tells you what to expect on the test. Its really easy to fail his class unless you can spend 3hrs a night studying for it. If you miss a class, good luck
Mr. Willis is nice and can be funny but he is not a good professor in my opinion. He expects you to just know things so if youre not a science major I wouldnt recommend. His lectures will only make you more confused and he doesnt tell you what to expect on exams which are really tough. I would avoid at all costs! This is NOT an easy A or even B/C
Your entire grade is based off of 4 exams and 1 cumulative final. All at 100 points each. There are no study guides nor does he even guide you in what to study. The book was useless and his lectures were unclear and he often spent too much time rambling that we couldnt even finish. Tests are super hard and impossible. Also his lab is hard too
My favorite proffessor at FJC. Definetly the funniest. I took him for earth science and loved it. He made rocks really interesting, now I annoy my friends and family with random facts. He has a very dry and sarcastic sense of humor which I loved. I would typically read over the notes once or twice and got an A on every exam. Not hard, little HW.
I'm a Spring Start student at a 4 year university and tried to finish my GEs at FCC. His class was honestly super easy compared to AP classes in high school, but I'm not sure how they would compare to other high school classes. The book was pretty much useless. I just did the online games until I mastered them and then reviewed the powerpoint!
Not often I give a teacher bad rating, but I can honestly say hes one of the worst professors Ive ever had. Dont get me wrong, Marc is funny and is a great person, just not a great teacher. No homework so 100% of your grade depends on 5exams that are typically 100 questions. First test the class average was an F and he blamed students. Also rude
I love most teachers because generally most want their students to pass and will take their time in explaining material. Unfortunately this teacher is not one of those teachers. I have never seen a teacher so uninterested in helping his students succeed. We had 45 students in our class and within 5 weeks now 18! Dont take this teacher!
Marc's Exams are the hardest, very tough grader. His final was extremely hard wouldn't recommend taking this dude. Seems like every zoom class that goes by he's less and less motivated tuff at times to explain. Doesn't teach what's on the exam. Goes on and talks about stuff that's not even on the final
Heavy tests be ready to suffer. The final was extremely difficult. He didn't even cover questions on the final on lectures smh
Mind as well not attend his zoom lectures. The final was something else caught me by surprise didn't really cover it good, super hard grader
As a geology expert he teaches his students with the expectations that we all have as much understanding of the subject as he does. He doesn't teach the material he just talks about it in a way that doesn't promote learning. He's patient with questions but everyone failed his exam to the point that the curve increased my grade 40% making it an A.
Don't take this class. The professor of this class talks as if he hates his job. He is very unclear when he talks and when you ask him to repeat he yells at you like a child. And what he teaches doesn't even get put on the exam. Every chapter he doesn't talk about gets put on it. Believe me he will fail you just for not knowing his favorite rock!!
I think Professor Willis is misunderstood. He's not a people person but is still a nice guy. He loves Science & expects students to take it serious. He values responsibility & will drop you if you don't commit to the class. The Labs were a bit too much work for just 1 credit but he will help and answer questions if you take the initiative to ask.
Honestly don't like his teaching style. If you don't take his lecture class, good luck in his lab class because sometimes he doesn't even explain what you're doing for lab. Doesn't give much feedback, other than asks more questions for you to learn. Also does not respect the "teacher" role and says its a back-up job. Don't recommend the class.
I'm not even going to go into detail because the bottom line is he sucks. Take that as you will
Beware of pop quizzes as in quiz at the end of class on Wednesdays sometimes questions are super specific. Graded out of 20 pts each quiz. Two check ins, one in beginning, once at end. Must pay attention to rock he mentioned or else marked absent even if in class. Remember, this is a 100 class but he grades like a 200 class. Do not take for GE.
Unclear Instructions, I promise. Tough grader, a classmate did not point to where the layer of earth's crust was and got marked down even when they wrote right next to it, and to clear up confusion, that was the only label there anywhere near that location so it is difficult to mistake it. Do not take for your GE, it is unnecessarily difficult.
I disagree with the 2.8 rating. Yes, his quizzes are very tough but if you pay attention during lectures youll be okay. You can tell he is very passionate about what he teaches. He also tries to keep class interesting which is hard considering youre talking about rocks.
He is unclear and if you don't understand his wording he blames you. My classmates and I have confronted him multiple times about things he said and did and he has denied many times. He talks about how teaching is his second choice. He is passive-aggressive with his emails. He has blamed me for not understanding his instructions. Impossible to pass
Your grade relies only on weekly quizzes with a 15 minute time limit, which sometimes don't even include the material that we went over in class and 2-4 games a week that are only worth 2 points each. He gets sidetracked too often and the power-points on the modules are different than the ones he goes over in class.
The lab class is pretty straight forward. Some labs can be pretty long and tedious, but not too difficult, especially if you work with other classmates. If you reach out for help, he is more than willing to help and explain. You definitely need to put time and effort into this class to get a good grade, but it is not impossible. Good Prof overall.
Professor Willis is really dedicated to helping you learn and do well in class. His online class grading was dependent solely on quizzes and games. Prep yourself for a ton of dad jokes.
Was always really passive in his zoom meetings and emails as well. He always gave vague answers to Qs. I took the lab and lecture and the lecture solely relied on quizzes w/o hw. Sounds nice but remember you won't have the buffer of an assignment to help your grade. Holds a lot of pride in being a teacher so it's nearly impossible to confront him.
I loved professor willis, very sarcastic but funny. Not a lot of homework, quizzes are solely based on lecture so really study the lectures. Will help you if you have questions.
Basically have to take really good notes during his lectures, STUDY his lectures, and you'll do good for his quizzes and exams. He doesn't assign hw. Graded on specifically weekly quizzes, midterm, and final. Drops lowest quiz score. Takes attendance in every class even over Zoom. Not bad overall. Offered a couple of extra credit opportunities.
Needlessly difficult. Professor is very cynical. Professor has long lectures, confusing notes, has tangents unrelated to the lecture, and quizzes on topics he briefly covers. Be prepared to pay attention at every second of the lecture and take notes on EVERYTHING. If you think a topic isn't important, plan to be quizzed in detail on it.
Class is mostly weighted on quizzes. If its in the lecture, it could be on the quiz. Thank being said, if you take notes on everything he says during the lecture, you will do great on the quizzes. Lots of puns and lots of jokes. Makes content that is less accessible easy to digest. He does draw lots of pictures/diagrams that you need to copy down.
He was a great professor this semester, probably the best professor. His lectures are easy to follow along. Taking good notes is very important for his classes because his quizzes are based off of things he will mention in class. He has been very easy to reach on Canvas and is great with communicating outside of class. I would take his class again
Professor Willis's labs were great and easy to follow along. He gave us lots of time to understand the material and what was expected of us for the lab. He works hard to help all of his students exceed in his labs. Very fun class got to attend some very fun field trips with his class. Would 100% take again!
Fall 2020- He claims this semester he is experimenting with our grades being based more on homework rather than the exams. He decided on no final, only a midterm but the grading was more focused on the phase 1 project and a group assignment. He put you into the groups. The zoom records are uploaded after class.
Literally nothing on the notes ended up helping for quizzes. I would go over and over on the material even taking notes on the textbook and by the time it's time for the quiz. The question is on some very particular topic we did not really go much into depth over.
By far the worst professor I have ever had. Horrible and dry lectures. Quizzes only based on said horrible and dry lectures. Inflexible and out of touch. Goes off tangent so often it is incredibly hard to dechiper between what is necessary information most of the time. Avoid at all costs.
Professor Willis may come off as "mean" but is incredibly great at teaching. At the beginning of the semester, I found myself nervous about his class and wondering if I was going to do well. He is passionate about lecturing; I was forced to learn, but I did & learned a lot about our planet Earth. Yes I would take again. Thanks Pro Marc Willis.
At all costs you should not take this professor especially online through his zooms. His zoom lectures are very hard to keep up with and not only that but no matter how many notes I took I still did mid in his quizzes. Not to mention his grades only consist of quizzes, games, and finals. If you do not do well on his two question quizzes your doomed
His class is based on solely your test scores from the mid term and final. Lectures are very slow and very note based. Be sure to take notes on what he is actually talking about because it will indeed be on the exams. (stuff he says that isn't on the PowerPoints) Told us the tutors would have the exams to study, but it was from 2009. Wouldn't rec.
His lectures are very boring and its very note oriented no quizzes, no unit exams, no study guides. Your grade is based on the midterm and final and let me tell you it is a make or break. He tries to be sarcastic in reality its passive aggressive for a 10 am class.
Your grade is literally comprised of 2 things, the midterm and final exams. Lectures were very boring and he barely provided the class with any helpful materials. He's also very unserious and tries to crack a dad joke every 5 minutes. Didn't enjoy this class. Oh and he literally brags about getting bad reviews on this site, so yeah theres also that
This class was so hard it wasn't even fair. There was only homework and quizzes but no tests except the final which you had no idea what to expect since there were none leading up to it. The quizzes were the hardest part and tank your grade if you miss one question. If you aren't specific and use examples he said in the lecture then you'll fail.
This course is really tough, with lectures focused on note-taking and exams that can make or break your grade. Though the professor has a dry sense of humor, using resources like unstuck AI alongside the textbook can help you succeed.
Professor Willis almost seems like he wants his students to fail. I barely made it out of his online course with a B and I honestly have no idea how. If you are thinking about taking him, DO NOT. I have never had a professor like him and genuinely hope I never do again.
