she's absolutely horrible. heinous. do not take her ever. you can't understand her, she has no clue how to teach, is condescending when you don't understand something. overall she's awful and highly not recommended
She's fine, a little hard to understand the accent, but she sticks with you if you don't understand something until she's sure you get it, doesn't mind questions. She only gets aggrivated if she can tell you don't understand b/c you haven't been paying attention. You won't walk away inspired, but do the homework as practice and you'll do fine.
Good luck
Terrible Teacher. Im sure she might be a nice person, but she has no idea how to effectively teach. Go to the learning center and get them to teach you after every class or you will do terribly. She will not teach you how to do anything on the calculator, so dont even bother to ask. Very hard to understand her accent. Avoid at all costs!!
Do not take Chiorescu or you will be spending much of your time in the learning center. She would often make mistakes in class when teaching and have to have students correct her. Not nice or sociable because she hardly speaks english. I made an A but only because I went to the learning center about 3 hours a day.
Easiest Math teaher that I've ever had.Knows what she's talking about.Very intelligent.Do the problems that she assigns and you'll pass with an A+. Her test reviews are conceptually similar to her tests so as long as you understand the overall concept you'll be fine.I would totally take her class again if I could.
Ok I took her for stats I considered the class to be fairly easy and very rarely studied or did the homework. Had I put a little more effort in the class I would have been able to pull off an A. However if you are not good at math I would not advise taking her, she does not explain things very well and over analyzes the simplest of things.
I thought she was a very easy teacher. She took some gettin used to. The study guides for test were exactly like the test. You have a quiz about once a week. I woud reccommend her. Easy A!
Marcels is the best math teacher that I've ever had. She is very smart and knows her material. If you ask a question ahe will answer it immediately. If I would have attenede class i'm sure I would have gotten an A. I am very satisfied with her teaching and I'm taking her for Precal next semester.
i absolutely love marcela. i have always struggled with math but i made an A in this course. she writes out all the steps and simplifies methods that i was never able to understand in other math courses. some people need time to get used to her, but she is very kind and i would definitely recommend her to anyone!
She is a really good teacher. She should teach more classes.
i took Marcela for Math Modeling and her class was super easy. Sometimes i didnt quite understand what she was saying so i went to the learning center and everything was so simple. i would HIGHLY recommend her again. Plus, she's really nice and willing to help.
This teacher worked hard before and during class. She was always very prepared, and could answer almost all of the questions that the class had very quickly. She had an accent, but it was not very strong and should not hinder anyone from understanding the material. Overall, she worked hard to help the students and was a nice teacher.
She is a good teacher! A little hard to understand, but she really wants you to know the material and will help as much as she can. She is a fair grader and drops two or more quizzes at the end of the semester and the exam grade can replace your lowest test grade. I loved her!
WORST TEACHER EVER!!! You can clearly see she could care less about the class or students success. NEVER answered her emails and made mistakes in class. Try another math professor
I had Choriescu for College Algebra. She's a pretty good teacher, but most of the class is taken online, so it really doesn't matter if she's a good teacher or not. I liked her. She's foreign, so some words are hard to understand, but it's not a problem at all! I never used a physical textbook. Whenever I needed the book, I accessed it online.
Very Nice Lady! (*If Your Nice To Her And Show Interest) Has A Slight Accent. Overall Algebra 1111 01 With Her Was Good.
Class time is mostly pointless. Majority of class is taken online. During class she works examples from textbook, that's it. She was helpful when I was sick, allowing me to take the test another day. However, she often seemed annoyed when you asked for help or didn't know the answer to a problem.
Literally she barely speaks english. Pointless in going to class except for she takes attendance as a grade. Sit in the back and bring some extra homework to do while you "take notes"
College Algebra was somewhat difficult, and she did not make things much easier. She is very nice but confusing, I couldnt understand most of what she was saying. If you do the homework and try to understand it and the review you'll do well. Coming to class was not helpful at all.
Dropped the class 1/2 way through. Can't understand what she's saying due to thick accent which made math 10x harder. She made a lot of mistakes that students corrected. She did not give off a vibe of caring at all. Tests and homework were online.... for math... those two things don't mix. 1 wrong symbol & its wrong. Save yourself & don't take.
Easy class. Teacher is hard to understand at times but overall the class isn't that bad. The material is very simple and easy to understand.
Always well organized before showing up for class. Personally, could understand her well.Probably have to read before test for terminology briefly discussed in class. So far, much better than other Math teachers I have encountered at this school.
I have never had a more horrible teacher. She was late every single day & had an attitude. Going to class was not helpful & was a complete waste of time. If you asked a question, she would blatantly ignore you and make a point to criticize you. The info I already knew became confusing once she lectured. Do not take her class if you don't have to.
She has a very thick accent, which is hard to understand. Her teaching style is hecka confusing bc she's foreign. Class time was a waste because she came to class late and with an attitude that showed she did not care. She is rude, sometimes even ignoring your question.Don't take the class. Or at least find another professor.
If you're good at math, it won't be a problem. If not, you'd better find a good tutor. Hard to understand, not very approachable, its a challenge to learn anything from her teaching in class. Thankfully, most of it is online.
She does the most she can with the hour of class time given, and I found her instruction helpful. She is a very nice lady who genuinely seems to desire her students to do well. I really liked that this class was hybrid, and I hate online courses. The math emporium helped make this the easiest math class I have ever taken. Their help is invaluable.
She's not a great teacher at all but if you go to class you'll get participation grades which will help you out a lot. It's a pretty easy class and if you go to the math lab they will provide you with all of the help you need so there's really no reason to get anything less than an A in this class.
I'm terrible at math. I struggled with regular math in high school and pulled out a high A in this class. If you put time and effort into this class it will be an easy A. Go to the math lab and ask for help. The math lab is what makes this class so easy. The teacher was clear on everything and is very sweet if you just do what is expected.
She's a great teacher! Calc 2 is very hard but she did a great job teaching it for her first time (I think). Very smart teacher but does her best to explain things in a way to understand it. She has good office hours that are helpful and actually cares about you passing the class or not. Just go to class everyday and take good notes!
I'm not very good at math and had this once a week. However, if you just do the reading and go to the mathLab there shouldn't be much of a problem. And ask questions, if you're confused on something. She'll definitely explain it to you.
The reason foreign professors have a bad rep. Makes you buy top hat software which is very glitchy. Doesn't care about students or course material. Very hard to understand.
This class needs to be more than once a week. It's like after the first class your just thrown out on your own. The software is expensive and confusing, and she turns off a portion of it so you HAVE to go to MyMathLab to understand. The textbook provided by the software is useless after the third chapter.
Easily one of the worst teachers I've ever had. Extremely difficult, not helpful, very rude, doesn't offer help or extra credit. Nothing close to an "excellent" teacher. I went through a hard time and she just wasn't there to offer any help.
She is a tough grader, she requires you to come to class everyday, you have to get 3 hours in the math lab each week when the homework and quiz don't take that long, the final isn't anything like the review so study all of the homework. She is rude as all get out.
I would not recommend this class (College Algebra) if you are not similar with algebra. I work hard for my grades and I got low B's. I have a hard time understanding the professor as well. The class is only one day a week, but you have to spend at least 2-3 hours in the math lab, but they're really helpful in there. The material is class is rushed.
Dr Chiorescu is pretty laid back, but she demands respect from her students. If you're taking her class, expect to be working in a group or silently listening to her teach while other students look confused. Her thick accent can make it difficult to learn, but the materials are self-explanatory. I would recommend her class if you want an easy A.
Most terrible class I've ever taken. I honestly learned nothing from Chiorescu, the only reason I kind of know what's going on is thanks to the math lab people. I'm typically not that terrible at math but I feel like she makes everything so much harder. Half the time the online test reviews are missing over half of what will be on the test, I cried
She makes everything much harder than it should be and gets frustrated when you ask questions. Get ready to teach yourself a ton. Really use the math lab helpers and get 100% on every homework it'll help.
I wouldn't recommend this class to anyone. I think that if I had a different teacher that it would be much easier, but Chiorescu is not the best to be teaching this class. She's not great with helping students or giving lectures. I think there has been 3 times in the whole year that she actually taught us anything before making us learn it online.
this teacher sucks. she does not teach and it is basically self taught. would not recommend this class too anyone. college algebra is an extremely easy course, just not when your teacher doesn't teach.
Honestly, the class itself was full of easy material, but she was horrible at explaining things. She answers your question with a question. If you have no choice but to take her you have to go to class and you're probably going to have to go to her office hours. If you are good at math, take this. Just know there is a lot of independent studies
Did not teach at all. Do not take if you can't teach yourself math.
The course itself wasn't difficult but trying to follow her teaching was. She basically did problems on the board and then you were dismissed. No actual teaching happened. Nice person overall but can't teach.
Doesn't explain concepts very well.
She moves on very quickly when it comes to new material. She give no homework and some pop quizzes here and there. All her test are confusing and graded harshly. It's easy material but she doesn't explain it well and her accent gets in the way sometimes.
Her notes are very easy to follow, and her lectures are very straight forward. A friend took the same class with Dr. Baugh and he was all over the place. Chiorescu was incredibly easy to understand. All of the homework is online and you have an endless supply of test review questions.
If you're good at algebra, then this class will be easy for you. However, she gives unnecessary work (like having to get 3 hours in the math lab every week). She also overcomplicates everything and leaves you feeling confused even if you know what she taught.
The material itself is not hard, but she doesn't teach it well. Her lessons are hard to follow. Also, don't expect her to give a clear answer if you ask a question.
The class itself is very easy, but she makes it so difficult to understand and complete work. If you ask her questions she gets mad and makes you sound dumb. On top of that, you will end up being more confused if you ask her anything. I would take this class because the material is easy and learn everything on my own.
Overcomplicates majority of topics, if get her drop it. The class is unnecessary stress
She hands out note packets and expects groups of students to be able to fill them out with little to no instruction. She does not explain incorrect answers on tests unless you go to her office. She barely taught and did not explain the concepts clearly.
I should preface this with the fact that I took precalc in high school and made a 98. I took precalc to satisfy my math credits this year. I felt well prepared for the class, but I was not. There are not a lot of grades in the class. Expect written assignments about the work, a few quizzes, and three exams. It's very hard to bring your grade up.
She is the worst professor I've ever had and that's saying a lot because I've had some really bad professors. She tests you on things you never learned in class, uploads homework the day it's due, and is just a bad teacher. She's definitely not mean at all, but it's hard to like her when she doesn't know what she's doing. DO NOT take her class.
By far the best professor I've ever had for a math course. There are regular homework assignments but they are good practice and the workload isn't heavy. She also gives opportunities to resubmit missed questions. Very good at explaining things and answering questions if you are confused. Her lectures are easy to follow and she provides handouts.
She assigns 2-3 homework assignments a week, but they aren't terrible and really help you prepare for her tests. She also allows you to resubmit your homework for points back. But for her online class, you have to take the test from 6-7:15 pm, which is ridiculous. There are also a lot of group projects, but those are pretty easy.
DO NOT TAKE PRECALC WITH HER. I am not a genius when it comes to math, but I usually catch on pretty easily and do well- up until I took this class. It has been one of the most confusing, frustrating experiences of my college career. She is an inconsistent grader that gives hardly any time for tests. I failed 2/4 tests even after studying hard.
Rough teacher, doesnt seem to really care about the students and isnt very clear about the lectures. Struggled in her class all semester and had so much stress for no reason.
The class is easy if you attend the classes and do the homework. She gives study guides for every test and the textbooks are very helpful to further explain the content. She offers an opportunity to redo your homework assignments to get a higher grade. She really cares about making sure her students understand the concepts and her office hours help
Chiorescu has a weird way of grading, Epstein (the other precalc teacher) gives homework grades and lets you correct P* as many times as possible. Chiorescu doesnt give any extra credit or help for that matter. DO NOT TAKE. 7 people failed her class because she does not care about helping her students.
She is not friendly and has an odd grading system. If math is not your strong subject you will probably struggle.Assigns homework but you get no credit for it.She is picky with grading on assessments. The one nice thing was that she gives chances to earn credit for past concepts on each test, but there are minimal questions about concept on the test.
If you must, take her over the summer. If she doesn't lecture well then the summer course Is perfect for you. Her time limit for the test are awful but they are doable. You just have to really know what you are doing. And actually do the homework.
I had her for pre-calc in the summer. She gave no time for the tests and she made you show all your work with the little time. She gave no extra credit and seemed to not care about your grade in the class. It was overall a tough class and she did not help her students at all.
She is a nice teacher and definitely wants to help you understand the material. It was hard to get a grasp on the content before the class was over so go to the SI sessions. Lots of studying on your own. The grading scale was a big perk. You have lots of opportunities to get M's, definitely don't wait til the last minute though.
At first the grading system she uses confused me, but the way it is set up is great. It is set up to where your grade can only improve, never go down. She does not take attendance and posts all notes online. Homework is not mandatory and she provides extra credit assignments. She also gave us the link to the textbook, so it was free:)
The grading system is a little confusing, but it is set up to only help your overall score. She really only reads off the printed notes and doesn't go into much detail. Homework isn't mandatory, and the final is optional.
She's a pretty good teacher as far as teaching style goes but some topics were still hard to understand.
The grading system is weird. You are given M's for mastering instead of actual percent grades. Honestly the notes taken in class were not very helpful, the past quizzes and test were more useful as study material. She is not the worst/best professor.
Dr. C was an amazing professor. Her M system along with P*'s rewards you if you make mistakes on your past quizzes or tests. Her SI instructors also are a great help if you're having trouble with concepts. If you do her homework and use the textbook, you are bound to get an A in the class.
coming to class never helped me, learning the material on my own served me so much better. the way she explains course concepts is the most confusing and convoluted way. she gets upset and defensive whenever someone asks a question or for any kind of further explanation, trust me just use the textbook
Go through multiple topics a day and you only learn a topic once for thirty minutes. Talked about how a lot of us would fail if it wasn't for the grading system. When we gave feedback she asked for she stood up and defended everything single thing and when you asked a question it felt like you were an idiot because you didn't study for ten years.
Odd grading system. The class is fast-paced but easy if you regularly attend. There is a bit of extra credit if you do all the assignments. The biggest downside is that she skims over many topics and lots of the lectures are simply unhelpful. I ended up teaching myself most of the content. Homework isn't required but it is the best resource.
this is the WORST professor/teacher I've ever had. The topics could be so simple but she explains in the most obscure and confusing way. Instead of teaching, she just goes over a worksheet every class and does not actually explain anything. If you ask questions she gets offended. And her grading system is so weird and does not make sense. Horrible
She's nice and responds to emails quickly. She just moves very quickly throughout the unit and doesn't leave a lot of time for comprehension in class. She doesn't take attendance but I suggest being in class. Sometimes there is surprise group work that is taken for an attendance grade. There are a lot of chances to make up your grade.
RUN! t takes forever to figure out her grading system and it makes no sense. She will give you multiple opportunities to make up certain learning checks but ultimately doesn't help when she won't give you consistent questions. If you end up taking this course I'm seriously praying she likes you because if she doesn't she will let it be known.
Sometimes the homework would ask you to do things we didn't learn in class, it was really annoying. There is so much homework. And the grading is really complicated and confusing. She is helpful but she talks and moves on really quickly so there is not a lot of time for actually figuring out how to solve the math problems.
I try my hardest to be open minded, but she is awful! The grading scale is complete trickery. She acts like you are on track for the course to get an A, but makes it almost impossible to get points. She is not sympathetic or understanding. You could put in all the work and still fail. Run as far away as possible if you get this professor.
This was the easiest class ever. The grading system is weird and unusual but it is EXTREMELY easy to get an A. Attend class, do the homework, and be ready to take a quiz (SLC) each week. She offers extra points as well. She is not the greatest explainer but the course is not that difficult. If you did pre calc in high school, then you will be fine
Dr. C is awful. She just goes through worksheets everyday in class as a "lecture" but doesn't actually explain anything. Anytime you ask a question she makes you sound like an idiot. She makes it sound like her grading system is great and helps you get an A, when in reality it makes no sense and fails you. Do NOT take her class!!!
This professor seems okay until the end of the semester. Avoid her at all cost, she acts like her grading system will be a good thing. At the end of the semester you will start to calculate your grade and probably will have a C or D. She does not want her students to succeed, she could care less.
I had Dr. C 3 times for different classes and I am eternally grateful to never see her again. You will teach yourself 90% of the material and she will not want to help or explain in different ways. If you have an SI, you should go because that was the only reason I got an A.
Chiorescu is probably one of the worst teachers I have ever been in a classroom with. She is awful at explaining even the simplest of topics and will make you feel like an awful person if you are confused. The grading system is so infuriating because of the lack of partial credit. It's all or nothing. I dropped out halfway through the course.
While she says that attendance is not mandatory there is many in class assignments that count towards your grade. Majority of the class is her "teaching" you by filling out a worksheet and expects you to know everything immediately. You wind up teaching yourself all the info outside of class before quizzes. I took precalc in hs and still struggle.
I do think Chiorescu is a nice person, however, I would definitely recommend avoiding this class. The grading system is very confusing and some of the questions on the checkpoints are questions that were never given for homework or on the notes. The way she explained things was very confusing and it was very hard for me to follow on certain topics.
professor chiorescu was a fine professor. the grading curriculum was kind of hard and you have to study a lot for her precalc class. she does give a lot of extra credit and you have to be willing to study math and memorize defenitions to pass this class
This was the first math class I have not gotten an A in. When she taught she would go through material very quickly and only do practice problems for the most part when half of the information on the checkpoints were about mathematical knowledge. Her grading system I did like because it gave you extra chances on checkpoints. I would not take again.
Overall, it was tough getting through the class. She is clear on what she wants but is willing to help by attending office hours. She offers a lot of extra credit but makes sure to do ALL of it for any of it to count but trust me it is not hard at all. She is very willing to work with you, just send her an email.
Being in Dr. C's class in an adjustment but she really does care about her students. This class is TEST HEAVY, quiz/test every week. But you get 3 attempts on each unit checkpoint and the type of problems you see remains pretty much the same. If you are not able to work on your own, I would not take this class. Just use your resources!!
Dr. C has a class that is not set up with an A,B,C,D grading system. It is conceptual and if you can get the points for the grade. If you study and go to the SI sessions you will be fine in the class. If you are confused about something make sure to go to office hours or get extra help. Getting the points on each SLC and ELC is important to get a A
This class was very hard to me and it was the first C I have ever gotten in a math course. I am a A student. If you cant work and learn on your own I wouldn't take. She goes fast. She is caring and accessible out of class. Her grading system was very confusing, and it was too late when I finally understood it to fix my grade. Test/quiz every week.
Once you swallow the pill, you have a quiz every week, it isn't that bad. Do the notes, and if you can do every question on the notes on your own, you'll be fine on Thursday. I would say go to class for the extra credit that she gives and the free printed notes. Try to understand, but I heavily used Professor Leonard's Calculus 1 playlist.
She is a good teacher if you have a good background with precalc already. she offers SO much extra credit so i highly recommend doing it all because it can boost your grade so many points. Same with your online homework it helps your grade a lot and your understanding. Class isn't mandatory, but i would not miss.
Such a miracle I made a B. I took precalc my senior year and my final grade was literally a 100% no joke. She is not personable and is hard to understand at times. Do all the extra credit and online homework. This class is insane, beware of the grading system it is ridiculous. You basically have no idea what your grade is until the end of the year.
The grading system for this class is odd and can take a little while to get used to, but overall, the class isn't hard, and the teacher is super nice.
I took her class during the summer, and I would 100% recommend to do that if you can. There's 6 quizzes that were worth 10% combined and 3 exams that are worth 50% combined, so if you mess up on one of them you have to make it up on the next. The rest was online hw, reflection assignments, and discussion forums and they are easy to pass.
I took her once in person and had to drop, I recommend taking it online over the summer. There are lots of assignments but as long as you stay on top of them you'll be okay. There are quizzes and tests (tests are lockdown browser with camera). The class was manageable online.
Doesn't care but is nice and helpful at times.
Failed almost everything by at least one point. Grading criteria obscure & was changed halfway through the semester but this was not beneficial. No partial credit for almost anything. Questionable grader. Cryptic criteria. Lecture heavy. Quick to say your work is wrong- be prepared to explain for a while. Don't feel bad if she makes you feel inept.
