To get a good grade in this class, you should attend every single class and read the text. Not an easy class, must apply yourself. Fun teacher, take her if you have a choice, won't be boring.

It is important that a lecture be interesting. She is. Our class goes at a slower pace than the rest of the Biology 189 classes which means that we get the chance to really understand the material prior to taking tests. I am glad that I got this instructor!

She is a very fun teacher. Keep her informed when you dont understand something as she is very happy to clear it up for you. take notes or print out slideshows that she uses for lectures. study good for the test and if you pay attention than your good. shes really nice!!

Dr. Cortes is extremely passionate abt. Biol. Her class is not easy but she is very helpful and makes it interesting. Study and u will do well. FUN CLASS!

Dr. Cortes is a fun professor. She goes over the last lecture, before she start a new one. Her quizzes and test are understandable. She's very approachable and cozy looking person. She LOVES animated videos of everything in her lecture. Highly recommend!!!

Easy class. However, I do recommend going to class. She gets upset when students only show up for exams. Powerpoints are available online to study from and the exams are based right off of them. There is a lot of homework in the beginning and 2 major projects at the end. Would recommend her. She is the only professor teaching nutrition.

very easy going, nice and helpful. She made it very clear at the beginning of the semester that if you don't want to come to class you don't have to, it's up to you!! Exams are on the syllabus so you know when to come to class. Responds to email quickly. loves to help and enourage students to do well. Easy class but study well. Projects are easy.

I took her for Bio 95 and then for 189. Study your pwrpoint notes & u will pass the tests and quizzes. She thoroughly explains difficult concepts and is more than willing to assist students and review. I loved her! Wish she taught more Bio classes!

Best instructor ever!! Was literally frightened about this class. The material was difficult, but reasonable. Dr. Cortes is very passionate about Biology and interested in having her students pass. I recommend her as the best possible instructor to have for this class. I recieved an A!!!!!!

BEST PROFESSOR EVER! She clearly goes over the chapters you need to before exams.If you don't understand something, ALWAYS ask questions. She will gladly and always answer them. I recommend you print out her study guides to take notes. Most of the exam/quiz questions are based off of them and STUDY HARD!She's very fun and makes class interesting!

SO AWESOME! Definitely take her. Very straightforward, doesn't try to trick you come exam time like some profs. Everything you need to know is on the slides (you could probably get by without reading the book at all). Funny and entertaining. Plus, she drops the lowest exam grade! You can't ask for more. Would take her again in a heartbeat!

Very understanding and helpful towards her students. Her class does not take attendance and she does post the classes online but the activities done in the classes do vary and I think should be attended to have better understanding. She's funny and very nice!

Marcela was amazing! She has an accent but I never once found her hard to understand. No homework, 4 quizzes, 4 tests, no midterm, and a final. She teaches off of power points and yes she may rely on them but all the information you need to pass the class is on them. She is funny and very passionate about what she does.

She is super positive and a really great lecture teacher. Awesome at explaining and going over material. She's happy to answer or go over anything in class. HOWEVER, the exams are INSANE. You may know everything ever about a concept and get the question wrong on the exam.

She is a great professor. Just because this class was online, her involvement with our class was plentiful. She is very helpful and answers all your questions. Her work is easy and fun to complete and her exams are a walk in the park. If you want an easy A and a great time, take this professor.

I cannot stress this enough for BIOL 189. READ THE TEXTBOOK despite what she says. The questions on every exam use the exact same language and examples in the textbook.

This online Nutrition class has by far been my favorite. Almost all the class discussions are based on research you do on yourself. All of interesting learning. The tests usually took me the entire 2 hours to complete. There are 3 tests and one final.

This was one of my sweetest teachers. She gave very thorough lectures and always wanted her students to do well. Her exams could get difficult but if you go over the notes, the book, and don't panic, you'll do fine. Comprehensive final. You will definitely need to study for many hours, many do not pass the class, plan accordingly and good luck!

I took this teacher for lecture and lab. She's great during lab as she is willing to help any students at anytime. During her lab you can see her passion for science and it makes the class wonderful. Don't miss lab or you'll miss points for your grade. Her lab quizzes were fill in the blank so you must know the information. Studythe lab book well!

Took Bio 121 online and it was super easy! There are 3 exams and one final. Although the tests were tricky because not everything is based on the chapters she assigns to read, I still managed to pass them all with a good grade thanks to google. There is usually one assignment due each week or possibly two, but their easy to do.

She is an amazing lecturer, she provide the class notes on PPP, you need to read ahead of class if you want to understand the lecture. the most important part the quiz and exam is easy if you only read the question carefully. she also put always to remind you read the question carefully. I'll definitely take her class and recommend any bio major.

I love her definitely take her if you have a chance she's really there for her students willing to help them pass. I have her for lab & nutrition online by far the best instructor although it's still a bit hard she really helps you. Would definitely take her again

Professor Cortes is great at teaching the subject. She really breaks the material down for you and makes sure you understand everything that will be on the test. She has quizzes every couple chapters to make sure you are keeping up with the class. Her exams are pretty difficult. PPT's given. Print them out. Reading the textbook HELPED A LOT.

Dr. Cortes, is very inspirational, in the way that she shows her liking for Biology. Enjoys being asked questions. Happy to help. Provides power points, but make sure to read the book and the examples that are in there that go along her slide. Always makes the class interesting, very good at explaining the material. Tough tests, study a lot!

Do yourself a favor and actually study outside of class. Dr. Cortes will tell you what to go over for the tests. Just study and try to comprehend the material and you will do fine. The book helped me further my understanding. Dont be late because she does point out important dates/quiz topics for future classes as soon as you start

Professor Cortes's class is made up of discussion posts, assignments, three exams, and a final. The online class is not particularly hard, but it is time consuming. Reading the book as well as the online lecture notes is necessary when studying for the exams. Assignments are straight forward and some are fun. She is a helpful and fair professor.

Professor Cortes is such a sweetheart. She puts a lot of enthusiasm in her lectures, and really cares about her students. I didn't use the book at all. I just printed the notes for each chapter on canvas and studied for exams that way, and brought them to class too. If i studied more for the exams, I could've done better in this class.

I was super nervous going into this biology course because I didn't think I'd excel in the sciences being a business major but let me tell you, SHE IS ABSOLUTELY AMAZING! She made everything super easy to understand and put the biological processes in a logical order that made it easy to connect them together but be prepared for lots of testing.

Mrs. Marcela was great and well attentive with her students when it came to the lecture. The only bad thing is she would expect you to know exactly what would be on the exams/quizzes. The information was hard but she was really cool to try and break it down to whoever had troubles.

She is a really good professor, she helps you as long you are willing to learn and put in the hard work. I HIGHLY recommend, mastering at least basic chemistry before taking the class or you will get lost! I withdrew this class because I was taking to many classes. My adviser messed up my schedule but no excuses. I will ace this class in spring :)

She's really good at giving the lectures and she definitely goes over the material if there's any doubts, however the exams don't really correlate with the lecture format, the exams are definitely based on the text book even though there were no assignments from the book, no homework either. Just study from the book.

Professor Cortes is one of the best college professors I have taken so far. She is very clear on what she expects her students to know, and she thinks very highly of her students. Everything she goes over in lectures will be on her tests. She is always available to e-mail or set up a time to meet and go over confusing topics. Study passing! :)

A great professor! One of the best professors I've had yet. She has powerpoint that she goes over and really explains everything step by step. Be ready for a lot of studying. You can't wing this course.

Really nice professor, really interesting topic. She knows her stuff. I really learned alot and enjoyed the class. I had to study hard to get A's on the tests. Most questions were multiple choice, but a few short answer questions.

She is a good professor. All the work is done on Mindtap and you have access to the book though Mindtap, so I would not buy the book. Either way, we never used the book in class. About three assignments a week, all pretty easy and you have multiple tries in case you get a low score. Tests are not very hard, just read over the powerpoints.

This Professor is an amazing lab instructor.(not my lecture teacher) She really makes sure that you understand your labs and the material you are learning. Grades based off of quizzes. There are small quizzes everyday. STUDY FOR THEM. It is a tough class so make sure to ask for help and study your lab manual. I would take her again !

You definitely need to read the book, take notes from her PowerPoint slides, and use mastering biology to do well on her exams. I loved listening to her lectures. She makes it easier to understand the material. I wish I could have her as my professor again!

All homework is done on Cengage. About 3 assignments due every week. Tests at the end of every unit which are easy to pass as long as you read the online textbook. Overall simple class.

Professor Cortes is absolutely positively amazing!! I have been reading a lot of comments how her exams cover nothing learned in class but honestly that is not the point. The point is to understand to apply: if you just memorize you will get nowhere. And she makes it easy to understand, explains everything like an AmeobaSis Youtube video. Loved her

Prof. Cortes was great! She really cares about her students and wants us all to succeed. Bio 189 is hard no way around that but she can break down and explain very complex information allowing for you to understand. My lab and mastering assignments, 4 quizzes, 4 exams and 1 final. She makes sure everyone gets it before moving on. Highly recomended!

I highly recommend her. there are 4 quizzes, weekly my lab mastering assignments, 4 exams and 1 cumulative exam. all exams come from her PowerPoints. Make sure you study this is not an easy class but Prof C. can break down very complex subjects to understandable information. she cares and is always available to help. She's positive and helpful.

Dr. Cortes was an amazing instructor. She broke down material as best she could and always recommended we go to the SI sessions which were always helpful. I would not take this class again not because of the professor but because I don't need to. You do have to put in the work to get the grade you want. She is very respected and helpful.

Really great professor in regards to teaching style, easy to understand everything +great examples/ You have access to all her powerpoints/ No hw just 4 quizzes 4 exams, quizzes are easy but the exams I had trouble on them I got a C everytime, you just have to study well and look up ex. questions!! that's how you practice (exams at home, recorded)

i loved her class. i never used the textbook, all the material she tested us on was from the lectures, so pay attention to those and use them to study. shes a great person and i loved interacting w her. weekly homework that give u multiple attempts on questions, 4 quizzes, 4 exams. participation helps you out a ton, if ur confused, ask for help!

best 189 prof she will only test you on what she covers in class which is good because if u pay attention then you will know exactly what will be on the test. she cares very much for her students and doesn't want anyone to fail. will answer all your questions and give u worksheets you can use as a study guide. would take her again in a heart beat.

I had this class as an online course, and most of it was done through cengage. The material was easy to understand and work on, with the same sorts of assignments expected each week in a very linear fashion. While I didn't receive much actual teaching from Ms. Cortes-Ramirez, she was always there if we had any issues or questions.
