Very good teacher, do the papers and GO TO THE STUDY LABS and you will get a good grade.
It was an easy class if you just go to class, go to the study labs so she can tell you what to write and make sure to have a group with good workers.
Easy, Easy class. No tests ever, just a few papers to write. If you go to labs, then she will basically write the papers for you. Easy A.

Class wasn't that hard, take notes and show up are the keys. If you don't like Bush-bashing liberal views, then stay away from her class.

This class is super easy!! Although I get tired of the Bush bashing b/c that's all she does. Just go to the study labs and you will do good on the papers, and the class.

This women doesn't do much teaching, she just kind of ramble here and there and be sarcastic...her assignments are not very clear, but if you're taking this class, just go to the study labs, and it'll help you
All you have to do is go to the writing labs and take the easy quizess and you will get an a. But it almost isn't worth it to hear her gripe about everthing under the sun!
She is very liberal. Conservatives beware! However if you can get over that the class is easy. Just go to the labs and dont miss more than 2 quizzes.

she is an unique teacher...she cusses alot in class, which i dont get..definitely not professional in her teaching style but she knows what she's talkin about, she is liberal, as others have said. i like the class overall, helped me see society in a different light, which is somewhat depressing but thats reality...
Very Liberal! She's a good teacher, explains things well enough to remember them for quizzes. Go to the study sessions for the papers! All grades are quizzes and papers and they'll almost write your paper for you if you go the labs!
Class is extremely easy. No tests or final!!! just write good essays and go to the writing labs...you'll do just fine.
Just go to every class period and you'll pass. Seriously.
Get in cool with the assistants, they grade most of your work!
Marcella, is very liberal but she doesn't sugarcoat anything about life. We had a war dude in our class and she shut him down, talked about Hurricane Katrina and other pressing issues. Go to class and study labs. She gave a moving speech at the end that made me cry. She challenges you and makes you think. Oh get in good with TA's
Proff Thompson was as fair and understanding as they come. I would take her class again just for fun I enjoyed it so much. I did not do well in any other class but had a perfect 100 in her class. It is not a gimmie grade- you have to show up. She shows a movie every friday with makes things fun.
she is older, has a very dry sense of humor...she is interesting but very liberal and kinda twists things to fit that ideology quite often. if you're more on the conservative side you might find yourself somewhat uncomfortable at times. you have to write 2 essays and most work is in groups. she seems good-hearted but a bit cynical.
Marcella is EXTREMELY LIBERAL and not afraid to show it. Make sure that when you write your papers they have a liberal slant or it will show when it is graded. Class is very boring, I would seriously suggest taking something else if at all possible.
This had to be the most boring class I had ever taken. She stands up there and drones on and on about random crap. Then the papers are pretty tough if you don't have the time to go to the ELC, but if you do you should be okay. I went to the class about 10 times and got a C....
I loved Marcella's class. She is really funny and sarcastic. She made fun of fraternities, sororities, and football so I was sold. Interesting class led by a very liberal teacher. And no final. Good class.
She is different kind of teacher. She only gives quizzes and you will have three papers; NO TESTS!!! The class doesnt make that much sense at first but eventually starts to near the end. If you want to make an A in there, GO TO THE WRITING LABS! The TA's and Marcella help you on your papers before you turn them in; and you get credit for going.
In the papers, tell her exactly what she taught you and you'll get an A if you do it well.

Extremely liberal, so if you're conservative, in a fraternity or sorority, go to church, play a sport, hunt, fish, drink, etc., prepare to be offended. Her TA's grade papers, so make friends with them. When you write papers, write what THEY want to read and you'll be fine.
Thompson is a cynical teacher. She knows her subject material and can teach well, but I got the impression that she was uninterested in teaching the class. Go to the writing labs, show up for the quizzes, and an A is within your grasp. The main way to ensure a good grade is to make sure you don't wait to do a paper at the last minute.

She gives at least 1 quiz a week so go to class. Do the wrting assignments and you will get an A. She is very opionated and doesn't care what yours is all the much. She hates Bush, fraternaties, and soroities. If you want an easy A then take it just be prepared to be offened.
Marcella is very sarcastic and I loved it. The only thing that you have to do in this class is write a couple of papers. I loved how she just laughs at the stupid things of our cultural. Hilarious teacher and easy class! If you dont take her you'll hate this class.
This class sucks. She is a nice woman but you wont learn anything. Her TA's grade everything and if they dont like you then you are screwed. Just go to class because she gives a ton of quizzes. The upside is she gives no tests at all.

This woman is crazy! Haha. Go to class and go to the writing labs. Pick your group carefully. Fridays are movie days and she tries to make them enjoyable. Talk mostly to your TA, they grade everything. I didn't buy a book, but make sure someone in your group has one.

EASY EASY CLASS. Every assignment is done in groups, this includes quizzes, tests, and papers. She has a very dry sense of humor for an old lady and is entertaining to listen to. She is a good teacher!! There are quizes once a week usually on Wednesdays. Take it with 2 of your friends because you work in groups of 3 all year! GO TO THE WRITING LABS AND YOU WILL DO WELL ON YOUR PAPERS!!!! As long as one of your group members is there you are set just make sure they know your id number!! TAKE THIS CLASS!!!
Not a good teacher. Goes off on tangents and lectures are hard to follow. starting on your papers early and going to early writing labs are the only things that will save your grade. quizzes are also really random. show up to class because she gives pop quizzes.. even on fridays when we always watch movies
just go to class in case of pop quizzes. everything is group work even papers and if you go to the writing labs she helps you to get an A on them! its not a bad class at all she is very helpful although EXTREMELY OPINIONIATED AND LIBERAL
She's an awesome teacher who knows her stuff! Yeah, her quizes are random but atleast her class is entertaining! You get a laugh just being there! Super easy! Feel free to ask for help whenever! She'll even help you on a quiz. She's one of my favorite teachers I've had at the university!
The papers are easy and she gives a lot of extra credit. The quizzes are a little harder but if you pay attention in class then you'll be fine.
Pretty good teacher. Helps you out but you need to figure out what she likes-very liberal! Writing labs help. Share a book between your group and bring to class for the quizzes. And go everyday because you never know when she will give one. DON'T use your cell phone! Just be honest and it will be a good class.

Everything is group work, so if you have her make sure you have group members that will help you out! Teacher is not terrible, but nothing special either. I didn't really like her until I was borderline to getting an A and she bumped me up when i went to talk to her. Just get a good group and you will be fine.

This woman is sarcastic, rude, and ignorant to the fact that anyone might not want to hear her ramble about her liberal agenda for 3 hours a week. Class attendance is not mandatory and you will only receive As on papers if you agree with her perspective. She condescends to the class and gives many pop quizzes when the class count appears to be low.
Very sarcastic and the class is uninteresting. She focuses on things like race or social class and considers them "groundbreaking." She is funny and helpful, but most are afraid to approach her.

It's a super easy class though, you dont have tests, only quizzes about every other week, that you do with a group, and there's no final. Not my favorite teacher.
If you have conservative opinions keep them to yourself or don't take her! She is opinionated and extremely arrogant. I had an Iraqi war veteran in my class who told her that his platoon found dangerous weapons and she told him to shut up and that he didn't know what he was talking about. I lost ALL respect for her as a person after this.
The other comments talk about how easy this class is but I disagree. You won't learn anything about sociology. You have two papers over socialism and capitalism the assignment isn't made clear. And that along with 8 quiz grades are your only grades in the class. No one will speak out in class because she ridicules anyone who answers her questions.
She is very vague and apathetic. SHOW UP FOR CLASS. You miss quizzes you are screwed. She talks about current information, but when it comes to properly explaining assignments she is useless. Goes in circles not answering your question. No extra credit. Beware.

horrible teacher, doesnt care what others think yet she gets mad when no one responds. No tests, quizes once a week and two papers. Go to the workshop bcuz the guidelines are unclear. Dont be scared it you fail the first paper, you will get a chance to redo it with the second paper. There were few extra credit points at the end of the semester
She doesn't really teach you anything. ALL she talks about are her views on problems. But u only have 4 papers and you get to work in groups!
There are no tests and no quizzes in her class. Everything you do is group work in fact this semester she changed the grades from 10 quizzes and 4 tests (all group) to 4 group papers over films and modern day society topics discussed in class. You won't learn a thing about SOC really but if your major doesn't really pertain to SOC then it doesn't really matter...a GPA booster that required hardly any effort.

Very interesting class. The videos/movies are very interesting and eye-opening. You write a couple essays with a group. Go to TAs or to her to review your essays before turning them in. It is very helpful and almost guaranteed A. Attendance is not required.
Attendance is not mandatory. I would reccomend you go to every class though just because it is a guranteed A if you go. Try to find a good group because you will be working with them the whole semester. It's all group quizes and group papers. Go to the TA to get your paper looked at before turning it in. If your a republican don't let her know.
She puts a lot of her personal opinion into her lecture, and doesn't exactly teach just rant about how she feels about things. You don't use the book at all even though the syllabus says to be reading..there are a lot of pop quizzes though.

Get with people you know will stay on top of things and not lazy in your group. If you ever need help on the quizzes or papers; she is super helpful.

Took honors general sociology with Marcella. Our grade was made up of 2 papers & a presentation on one of the papers. Attendance isn't mandatory. Incredibly liberal and expects you to be too; however, she's feisty & fun to listen to. I really enjoyed her class. Would recommend her, but you do work for the grade.
Your grade in this class will be from quizzes and papers. It's all group work. The quizzes can be difficult because she doesn't really teach she just kinda rambles her opinion. The best and easiest Sociology professor at the University of Arkansas. Her grades are only quizzes and papers, & while that may sound hard it is so easy. The quizzes are 10 questions and done on Blackboard IN class, they are easy 100's every time. As for the papers, GO TO THE WRITING LABS!!! You will guarantee a good grade on the paper if you go.
Get a group of friends who will work to take this class with you. Recommended for an easy credit as long as you show up and do the quick work assigned. You won't actually learn any sociology. No tests, and the quizzes, though tough, are all done in groups. Go to the writing labs to get help on the papers and you should be fine.

We were supposed to have 3 writing assignments for the semester and she changed it to 2. Attendance is optional but beware that she occasionally will do a quiz in class that can't be taken after class. No midterm or final.
Easiest Gen Ed ever. You wont learn anything, will sit in class on your computer the whole time as she talks about random crap. I missed 3 weeks of class & all I had to do was makeup one quiz. Two of the quizzes are dropped, she gives ex credit & you have two group papers. Class gets cancelled on Friday alot. This class is a joke & an easy A.

Everything is done in groups. She is old and sassy and I personally thought she was hilarious. You do not need to buy a textbook, and you can pass the class even if you don't show up. Beware of pop quizzes (done in groups) that are usually open until a few hours after the lecture ends.
She was a very nice professor, however, if you want to learn a lot about sociology I wouldn't recommend taking her. The lectures consist of her talking for about 20-30 minutes about the powerpoints then letting the students leave early. She wasn't necessarily a bad professor but would have rather taken it with a different professor to learn more.
This woman has zero sympathy and you will never be able to understand a single lecture unless you sit very front row, good luck.
Do not take if you actually want to learn ANYTHING about sociology. Easy A, just have one person in your group go each time in case there is an attendance check (it's just writing your names on a paper). She's a tough grader on papers, but the group quizzes are easy as long as you have enough people work on the. her lectures are boring!!
