Absolutely the best instructor I have ever had! If you have to take an undergraduate accounting class you should take it from her.
Good teacher but not too easy of a class.
She's an awesome teacher that clarifies everything... the only thing that sucks are the trick questions on the weekly quizes!
Marci is the best accounting teacher you can ask for. She does a good job on clarifying what is needed. The weekly quizzes I hate, but that is just to help students keep up with the reading because we all know students will slack off given any chance.

Weekly quizzes are a bummer, especially trick questions. Make sure to attend class or you won't kno what's going on; she's very nice and helpful though.
I really liked Marci as a teacher. Yes, there were quizzes every week in the class, but they weren't tricky, you just had to pay attention in class to understand the topics; then the quizzes weren't hard. (hint, if you have a friend in an earlier section than you, borrow their quiz). I think she made accounting about as interesting as it can be!
Marci is a great instructor and takes a general interest in her students. I would highly recommend her.
Marci is a great teacher. She knows her stuff and knows how to teach it. Plus she learns everyone's name and tries to give indiviual help when needed. She grades on a curve though.[Caveat] She words questions on tests and quizzes in a confusing way, and some students think this is trickery. She pushes you to LEARN accounting. Be prepared for that.
Class was always interesting. She genuinely cares about her students. Requires a lot of work, but I highly recommend her.
Marci is the only teacher that I have had since high school that learned my name. This class is hard, do the homework and study and you will get a good grade. Not many students get an A in her class and questions on her quizzes and tests can be a little tricky.
She is a marvelous teacher. Very dedicated to students. She is very helpful, but she is hard. Quizzes every week and they are not easy. Exams are hard too. You will have to study every week to get a good grade. She has a great personality and encourages question in class. She will explain things if you ask.
She is a great teacher who will take the time to help anyone out, as long as they ask. I learned alot from her.
This class is hard, quizzes every week that you must study for. Marci is really friendly and teaches right out of the book. BEWARE of the midterm, and fear for the final, the material on those exams is tough especially with variables she puts into the equations, you must do well all semester to save your grade in case you blow it on the final
This class was the best! Marci is helpful and very friendly. The class is a lot of work, but if you show up, pay attention, and take notes (this is key because the material on the quizzes is taken directly from her lectures so if you take good notes you won't have any problems with them), you will ace the class. By far the best professor I've had y
She is the type of teacher that trys to trick you on exams and quizes. She will teach on what it is and test on what it's not... so frustrating. High energy, productive class environment.
I don't care how nice a professor is when they make the exam and quizs unnecessarily full of trick questions. Also the WebCT content is a pain to sort through in terms of assignments.
If you want to get a good grade, get a private tutor ASAP(it's free through BAP, she'll give you the list),go to the SI Sessions and practice the material until you understand. Her quizzes do have tricks and not all the material in the chapters will be on the quizzes/tests.Look over the material before class.Toughest class ever but worth the effort!
Marci teaches very well, and she's easy to understand. The problem with her classes is the difficulty of the tests. I took 2010 from her as well, and the average score on the final was 68%!! She tries to trick you, throws stuff at you that you've never seen before, and puts way to much on the tests for you to finish in time. I do NOT recommend her.
Tricky and does not make it easy to study for tests and quizzes. Smart but does not teach the material well.
Marci is a nice lady but she should not be teaching at a graduate level.
Hated those weekly quizzes. I'm not terribly math-minded so the trick questions would trip me up, even though I'd studied.
I HATED her weekly quizzes. She definitely chooses favorites and is definitely nit-picky on quizzes and tests. She only wants you to do well for so long, after that she takes MASSIVE points off for stupid things. Also, doesn't post homework up for you to check answers.. You're a little blind throughout the whole thing. Her class is.. manageable.
She isn't very easy to work with on serious reasons for missing assignments with the book or anything like that. Doesn't post notes or anything online. Is very harsh with late policy.
Her tests were awful, and you could study all night and not be ready. Was way to fast when teaching. So unfortunate that she is the only teacher for this section.
Tests are impossible, way too many questions out of left field and not enough time to complete them. Studied with a tutor and did the SI sessions and still failed. Doesn't take any responsibility when the majority of the class fails an exam. Nice lady, sub-par professor.
class was pretty difficult and required intensive outside studying for tests. tests seemed designed to be impossible to "Ace". lowered whole classes grades to apply to the 3.2 gpa average guidelines of the DESB. talked to students in a VERY condescending tone. alright teacher, terrible person.
Marci is very knowledgeable about Accounting. She gave two pop quizzes to make sure students were reading which I thought was fair, and she gave us two days to take the midterm because she knew it was going to be time consuming. She speeds through a lot of the material, so be sure to read the book and do the homework. Overall had a good experience.
Not a great teacher. She blows through the material and doesn't stop to explain the method. Most of this class I taught myself through the book. Butterfield is very knowledgeable about accounting though, and can teach a lot when she tries.
Good Teacher knows her stuff and has a lot of real life experience, which makes topics relevant. Read and do study problems. Study group helped so much. Was able to rebound from a 65% on the mid-term with homework and final and get an A in the course. Put your work in and it'll pay off. I'm not an Accounting Major.
Professor Butterfield is a great teacher and gives you all the information you need to succeed in her class.
She really knows how to enact with her students and always try to keep a good relationship with her students. But she is definitely a tricky professor, her weekly test was unlikely to seeking for answer from test book, in other words, her test was irrelevant to what she told you to be covered with the material.BTW, HER TEST IS REALLY HARD.
Hard tests and quizzes. This class covers a ton of material. Marci is a sweet lady and very personable but she drives a tough class!
Great professor. She cares about her students and learns to know most of you by name. The subject is hard and can be tricky but Marci does a real good job teaching it.
The course is pretty easy if you read the text book and make sure you understand the homework questions. Her midterm and final are a lot easier than the weekly quizzes. If you start the class like I did with absolutely zero knowledge about the subject of accounting, the class will be a little overwhelming at first, but it gets a lot better fast
This class was pretty difficult. Marci is not the best professor, and seems to have not time for her students. I ended up with a good grade because i took it upon myself to study every sentence of the text book. Her weekly quizzes are tricky, but tend to get easier as the semester progresses.
Marci seems to know the material well but she thinks all her students does as well. Her weekly tests were impossible to study for because she throws in tricky questions. She tends to ask open-ended questions during lectures so students have no idea what answer she is looking for. Midterm conceptual part was impossible to ace
I had a hard time following her train of thought in class but did ok by doing the practice problems online and working through them by myself. She speeds through material in class. I walk away from class feeling like I do not know anything until i study the problems at home.
Marci is great, but she burns through the material FAST so you have to be able to supplement on your own through the textbook and SI sessions. I didn't find her quizzes to be tricky, just read the questions carefully.
Marci thinks she is a gift to the University of Utah and she's just not. She forgets that her students are in an intro-level class and does not explain vocabulary or concepts enough to teach in a way they understand. She does not answer students questions and being "nice" is subjective to who she's talking to.
Awesome Prof. Cares a lot about her students. She is very aware of who attends class and participates. You get back what you put into this class. I did not pick up concepts very easily, but read each chapter and did homework and extra problems online. Class used cengage for homework. Pay attention and she will teach you a lot!
Marci is a great professor. Be prepared to put in work and you will do fine. The class is not that hard especially with all of the tutoring, SI sessions and online resources. Just go to every class, take good notes, do the homework and you should have no trouble. I would recommend everybody take this one with Marci in prep for 3600.
I gave this course a 3 in difficulty because, face it, accounting is a difficult subject. Marci does an EXCELLENT job of explaining the material and does a review before every quiz. There are SI sessions and additional tutoring available as well. DO NOT BUY THE TEXTBOOK. Just get the Ebook that comes with the cengage code.
Marci is an extremely interesting professor. If you take accounting for the first time be sure to take it from her. The book is bad at explaining accounting in my opinion, but she (and her TA's) made accounting interesting and simple to learn. The class in it's self is pretty hard but she gives weekly quizzes that help keep the material fresh.
Marci is a fantastic teacher. Class is easy if you pay attention to lecture, and do the chapter readings & weekly homework. Take advantage of SI sessions offered, they are extremely helpful. I'd never had an ACCTG class before this and I got an A out of the class. Best ACCTG class taught by an outstanding teacher. Highly recommend her for 2600!
Marci is NOT great teacher.i highly discourage anyone to take the class. she test you on things that she doesnt even go over in class, SI discussions, tutors. I go to every class, study in groups, attend every SI discussion, tutor and anything else available. feel GREAT then she will test on something she never even spoke about. HORRIBLE TEACHER!
She really likes class participation. Showing up to class is a must. The one problem i had was seeing what she was writing on the board since i sat in that far back. She also talks and writes pretty fast so pay attention. Sit near people you can exchange answers with during class since some of her problems you solve with a group in class.
For someone with no accounting background this class was a struggle for me. I tried to learn the material from the textbook but it didn't match what we learned in class and it was hard follow or catch up. She taught a different method than the book shows. Her quizzes were pretty hard but she tried to make class fun though.
Awesome professor. She keeps class interesting! If you go and participate then you will learn a lot and get a good grade.
Took this class in 2012. She was definitely the most difficult of all the intro teachers back then(she teaches them all now?). It was a good class, learned quite a bit. Just made sure to go to the SI sessions and I was able to barely sneak by with an A.
Clear loves questions. She somehow memorizes everyones name within the first two class periods and she will know if youre not there. Best professor I have ever had.
Marci is a great person and does care about her students; however, for an intro level accounting class I would HIGHLY recommend taking it from another professor. Marci goes way too fast and explains things as if we have all learned it prior and seems to get frustrated when we are all lost and confused.
she genuinly wants her students to succeed, and she does know everyone in the class by first name! So she will know if your absent, although attendance is not required. However, I suggest never missing class and attending the SI sessions. She does teach based on T-accounts, which are barely covered in the book and that was a hard concept for me.
Marci is a great teacher. She really cares about her students and wants to make sure they understand the material. This is a tough class, but if you put the time in you will do fine.
Great teacher, Hard class. Marci is awesome I highly recommend taking this class from her.
Marci is great, but goes through things very fast and it can be hard to keep up. quizzes every week, hw every week, it's a very heavy load. the work is all very easy but it takes time and is hard to have enough time for this class when youre enrolled in other business classes. I suggest taking this class in the summer when you have more time.
Marci is a fantastic professor for this rough business pre-req. The content can be very challenging, but Marci makes sure you're on top of it by having loads and loads of study material available. Weekly homework assignment and quiz, overall not too unbearable after a few weeks in. She learns the names of every student in a 100+ room. Really cares!
Marci is your best option for Accounting 2600. She writes the midterm and final for the department so she knows the most important things to go over. Also she explains things very well. If you take good notes you will do well. Also as a bonus she remembers everyone in the class by name.
Her quizzes are tricky
Marci is one of the best professors I have ever taken a class with. Her methods of teaching are very engaging. Coupled with the fact that she will memorize your name quickly, I was always motivated to show up to class to learn. Do the homeworks on Cengage, and show up to class. She will review each chapter immediately before taking the quizzes.
The class content is difficult but Marci takes the time to make sure you have everything available to pass. That being said, she has a tendency to speed through her lectures. There were a few students in the class who really understood the content, Marci seemed to take that as a sign that the whole class got it and moved on quickly.
She speaks loud and clearly during lectures. She is very helpful and funny.
Butterfield knows what she's talking about and there's no one better to teach your first accounting class. She's great at explaining and teaching but be warned - the class is very intense and moves very fast. She explains so much in one class that you have to study a lot after to understand it. She's great though - clear, knowledgable and she cares
Marci was an incredible teacher. She remembered everyone's names, which made It more personal, genuinely wanted you to succeed, and taught the material very well. She's easy to talk to, and answers your questions thoroughly. Great teacher!!
Marci is a a great person, and she's really nice, loud and clear. However, if this is your first accounting class, I would not take it from her. She teaches really quick and explains things more verbally and excepts you to understand, she doesn't really put much on the board. So if you're a visual learner, I would definitely not recommend her.
Marci is a super great professor! One of my favorite so far in my college career. This class is a tough one if you haven't ever taken accounting. Marci goes fast but does a great job teaching the material. The quizzes and tests were pretty tricky. Get ready to work to earn your grade!
Good solid professor. She's there to actually teach you. Show up, listen and you'll actually learn a few things of value.
Keep up on your homework and you will do fine in class. If you do the homework before class often times it is easy enough material you will not need to go to the first class of the week. Weekly quizes but that is the department standard no matter the teacher. Tests were harder but fair, overall she is a fair grader for how much work you put in
Marci is a great teacher. She moves very quickly through material. But she is always willing to help and answer questions. She truly wants you to succeed and gives you opportunities to get a good grade. I found the TA's and such to be very helpful in getting good grades. Quiz every week, but does a review right before every time.
Marci is great. I'm not really interested in accounting, but she made it relatively easy to understand. More than that, she learned the names of all 260 students! The class was difficult, but if you attend each class session and work hard, you'll get a good grade. If you have to take 2600, Marci is the one to take it from!
She knows a lot about accounting but I am a visual learner and she is not that kind of teacher. She expects you to go to all of her classes as well as SI sessions that aren't required but pretty much are, because if you don't have time to go to the sessions you will have no idea what she is talking about even if you read the material.
This class requires a lot of preparation and dedication purely due to the subject matter. Marci is a great teacher and the lectures are informative, but you will need to study a lot on your own and there are quizzes every week. There is a sizeable paper mid-semester and an easier one towards the beginning. Definitely a weed-out class, but fair.
Marci is one of the best professors I have ever had. She is fair, knowledgeable, and organized. I recommend her to anyone, especially anyone who takes any ownership of their education.
Marci is a good teacher that gives every student a plenty of care, and she encourages students to solve accounting questions to improve accounting skills. However, she was very strict at scoring papers because my two papers in her class were scored low although I have already let writing professors check them.
Marci is very knowledge and is dedicated to helping people learn a difficult subject. She will learn your name and show genuine interest in your well being. I strongly recommend her class not because it was easy, but because I learned a lot.
I would not take this online her scoring is a midterm and a final midterm worth 25% of your grade class average was 154 out of 250 and final average 193 out of 300 so pretty low average and she doesn't grade on a curve. Its all online stuff she has a few videos but overall she gives you a broad idea of concepts for test but no examples .
I honestly can't speak about her in person classes, but all I can say is don't even think about taking this online. Make it work in your schedule to physically attend. This was one of the hardest classes I've ever taken. The course material that I reviewed and read was nothing close to preparing me for the quizzes or tests. NO ONLINE!!!
Marci is probably the best professor I have had. She learns everyones name by week 2 or 3. Her teaching style is very clear and she doesnt allow for any confusion. Marci clearly wants her students to pass and provides anything she can for that to happen. I learned so much from this course, I even switched my major to accounting!
Marci really knows her stuff when it comes to accounting. this was the hardest class I've ever had to take, accounting just doesn't click for me while it does for others. She will do her best to clarify any questions that you have, although she breezes through material due to the fact there is alot to learn in this course.
Marci was one of my favorite professors, she is very kind and caring about her students. Her tests are pretty tough, I would recommend trying to get a high grade on the midterm, because the final was a lot harder.
Marci is the best teacher to be taking ACCTG 2600 from. She is very organized and helps you understand everything, which is amazing considering how much this class covers. To ACE the class just read the chapters before class, she will discuss the chapter during class, so pay attention and take good notes, then she reviews before the quiz.
So. Much. Homework. As an online class, the format was awful. All homework and quizzes are due on Thursday at 7pm. Why not at the end of the week, or at least until 11:59pm to complete these large weekly assignments. There is a reason those who work full-time take online classes: flexibility. The format of this class was not flexible.
This is definitely a difficult course no matter the professor, but Marci does what she can to make it palatable. I would recommend reading the chapter before lectures, as Marci can be confusing if you don't have a background on what she is saying. Study the quizzes for the final, make your papers interesting, and go to SI sessions.
Didn't learn anything from the professor.
She's good
Marci is a great professor and a great choice for acctg 2600. Her tests are difficult and her curves can curve down, but she tries to make every student understand the subject. If you go to class, do the homework, and pay attention to her examples you will do fine in her class.
I consider her a decent teacher, but not great. You need to work a lot outside of class. My least favorite quality about her is just how insensitive she is. She runs her class with a vendetta. Shes very confrontational. She cannot accept that students face hardships outside of class and believes nothing is more important than her class.
Marci is honestly an amazing professor. She learns everyone's names in the class and is a great lecturer. 1 homework assignment and 1 quiz per week, and 2 papers over the semester. Just pay attention in class and read occasionally and you'll be fine!
This was a tough class but Professor Butterfield tries to make it manageable. I found it was very helpful to read the textbook chapters before we talked about them in class. Make sure to really understand the material rather than just memorizing. If you really understand the concepts, it makes the class much easier.
She is a great person, her teaching style is difficult but I still got a good grade. Be ready to read and know you will have tests weekly. She is willing to help you if you can make the time to meet with her. She also has a lot of teaching assistants who can also help you. If you read and do practice problems you will pass this class.
I really enjoyed professor Butterfield as a person and lecturer. Her teaching style is kind of difficult to comprehend at times. She has a sole method for solving accounting equations. Resulting in a harder class for me personally. The Quizzes and tests are NOT like the homework so I wold suggest finding a friend who took the class prior.
Marci is an amazing enthusiastic professor. Her lectures are very helpful and she is great at explaining accounting concepts. Quizzes are very important and can should be taken seriously if you want to get an A. If you put in the effort this can be an easy A or A- but you will have to work for it.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS ONLINE. I've heard that Marci is good in person, but her online class is awful. Struggled through the whole semester & felt like the homework & tests didn't relate to each other. This class left me with a horrible foundation for 3600. Had a different teacher for 3600, and easily got an A! Take Marci in person or not at all!
Marci is a fantastic professor, one of my all time favorites. She is very good at getting everyone involved by learning everyone's name and reiterating the points given in the reading. The course itself is very well organized with great lecutres and many opportunities to help your grade if accounting isn't your strong suit. I highly recommmend her.
Marci's class was great. She's very knowledgeable and likes to make up scenarios that get students involved and participating. The class was very structured which made it easy to stay up on everything. Antecedence wasn't mandatory but there are weekly quizzes that the lectures directly cover, so its much easier to do well if you attend each day.
This class was hard and I HATED it! Marci is kind and her lectures are helpful, but it was still SO much material to grasp and I just was not quite able to keep up in order to get an A. I cried a few times over frustrating and I am almost 40 years old. I would never take this class again online - it would probably be a lot better in person.
Ive never understood the point of quizzes but this prof loves them, so much in fact that theyre worth double that of the HW. Gives us a timeline to take a test and 24 hours before its due shes writing huffy little passive aggressive threats why she wont extend for any reason. Ok. Goes out of her way to make an otherwise easy topic difficul.
Prof. Butterfield is a great professor. Her lectures are interesting and her guest speakers are great. HOWEVER, the class IS pretty difficult. She waits to curve until the end of the semester so you will be wincing whenever you open canvas until then. If you catch the curve well it will be very beneficial.
Marci is great! Her lectures are easy to follow and interesting. Some of the topics were confusing but she was willing to take time to explain. She is very caring and would absolutely make time for her students to give feedbacks during her busy schedule.
Marci is a great professor. I had her for accounting 2600 and bcor3010. If you struggle with accounting then she will really help you. People who struggle in the class struggle because of accounting, not because of Marci. Yeah it can be a challenge but it makes sense. It is a 4 credit hour class. She gives a nice curve and it isn't too bad.
Split between two professors with both teaching 2 different types of accounting. Financial accounting first half of class by Professor Steve Stubben. Managerial second half by Marci. 12 quizzes (2 dropped), 4 assignments, 2 exams. Get ready to do a lot of group work. If you study well and review material you could easily average between B+ or A-.
The beginning of this course was tough for someone who's never been exposed to accounting concepts before (esp. because this was an intro course), but it got better further into the semester. She recommends heavy textbook reading, but you can certainly make do w/o it. Open-book quizzes w/ 2 tries. I didn't like how we had several group assignments.
This class was difficult, but it wasn't because of the professor. The course content is new for most students, and it's a lot to learn. Overall, Marci is a great professor who will help you, she just moves really fast in order to keep up with the course. Focus in class and use the resources that she gives you for exams and you will be okay.
She has a new 70-page lecture for each class period that she speeds through. She does not set a foundation for the course at any point and leaves you very confused at all times due to her speed and lack of description.
Marci was an incredible professor and really cared about the success of her students. This course included very difficult material and as long as you pay attention during lectures, ask questions, and participate in the group work, you will succeed in this class. I went into this course dreading it, and left with a good grade.
Professor Butterfield was an amazing, caring, and engaging professor. I went into BCOR 3010 dreading accounting and after Mrs. Butterfield, I felt like I actually learned something valuable. The class is tough don't get me wrong, but she made sure you were right there with her. Ask questions and go to her TA sessions and you'll do just fine!
This class is very hard, but I think Marci does a decent job. Her lectures are very fast, but she always posts the powerpoints, and answers to any in class problems you might do. Is very good with students, and emails back within 24 hours. Just be sure to study for weekly quizzes and you'll be fine.
One of the best professors I've had at the university and changed my view of accounting. Genuinely cares about her students' success and will take the time to go over concepts with students to make sure they have a solid understanding. Very kind to her students and uses the class to go over concepts and apply them in quality example problems. 10/10
Easily one of the best professors I've had. She takes her time on subjects, cares about her students, and always asks questions to make sure everyone is on track. A very nice person in general. Be sure to take her as she is an awesome professor.
Her class in general is very long and her lectures are very messy. She also goes through material very quickly and she also only has two homework assignments and they werent really that helpful towards the exams. Do not recommended taking her online.
One of the best professors I've had. She genuinely cares about all of her students and will take the time to go over concepts. She responds to emails really fast and is very approachable. If you can, definitely take her class! There are 2 assignments, weekly quizzes, and 2 exams. She drops the two lowest quizzes as well.
Very difficult class, but Marci did her absolute best to always help with any confusion or any questions we had, definitely would recommend!
Amazing Professor who genuinely cares for students. The lectures are straightforward and easy to follow. The course covers a lot of content which can be overwhelming and the weekly quizzes are harder than exams .
This is a hard course especially for someone who isn't majoring in accounting. For me, the information never clicked and the 2 hour lectures just didn't do it for me. However, Professor Butterfield is extremely nice and obviously cares a lot about her students. Great Professor, just a hard class.
I am not even an accounting major, but I loved Professor Butterfield. She is very caring towards students and really does care and want you to succeed in college and in her class. She is always available for questions and will really help you understand her content. Recommend her highly for this course.
The class is pretty difficult but Marci is amazing. She is always willing to answer question and clear up and confusion. She has a quiz every week and 2 exams, no final. I highly recommend paying attention and understanding the material because if you get lost its hard understand the material as she goes on.
Marci is the best college professor I've ever had. She knew everyone's name from the second day of class. She gives us practice problems to take home that prepare us for the in-class quizzes. There is quiz every week but she drops the lowest two. She does a great job explaining things. Take her class! You won't regret it!
Marci was absolutely incredible for my first real exposure to accounting. She was caring and I really liked how her course was structured. She kept the long class periods interesting and engaging and is the main reason I ended up switching from Finance to Accounting. I definitely recommend taking her courses if they are available.
She moves fast but if you pay attention you learn a lot quickly and she's very kind
my woman crush. Jokes aside, she is a clear instructor who provides the resources to succeed. Her lectures/slides are easy to understand, there is plenty practice in class and outside, she curves her grade, and drops your bottom two quiz scores. She empathizes with students without sacrificing learning. My top choice in accounting professors.
Horrible professor, they didn't teach well at all. Also, it went extremely fast and I had no time to add questions. Would suggest taking anyone else. Had to hire a tutor in order for them to teach me the information. Stopped going to class after a while, and started paying for a tutor to teach me.
Horrible teacher. Goes way too fast and doesn't allow hardly enough time for questions. I know more than 15 other people who feel the same way. I had to hire an outside tutor in order to learn the information. I didn't learn anything from her class the only way I passed was by stopping going to class and hiring a tutor to do all the teaching.
Butterfield is by far the best accounting professor in the block. Class is super freaking hard though, but if you put in the work you will be just fine. A lot of the class does really poorly, so if you can stay ahead of the game you will be fine.
Moves very quick so pay attention! She is awesome and remembers eveyones names. I wish she had a better homework system, its all on paper and doesnt give answers for a few days then just throws an exam at you and the class averages like 50-60%. there was a solid curve though. She also loves to get the class to participate.
In order to do well in her class, prepare beforehand. Read the textbook or read the slides. During class, ask questions. She goes fast so you should slow her down if you need to. At the end of the day, it's really on you. There are ten TAs so GO TO TA HOURS. She gives mom vibes so you'll feel comfortable around her enough to ask questions. So ask!
The professor tried her best to accommodate students and there are plenty of TA hours. She is caring. This class is lecture heavy and test heavy. Also pretty sure there is a big curve at the end. There are 3 assignments and 3 exams. The assignments are easy grade boosters. Just be sure to start assignment 2 early. This class is made to be hard.
She cares a lot about student success and even though the material can be difficult she tries her best to give example worksheets to study. You are graded on very few things so doing well on each assignment/test is important. She also moves pretty fast during lectures so sometimes it's hard to catch everything she says.
The best way to succeed in this class is to 1. Read the textbook and 2. GO TO CLASS! Marci is an amazing professor and truly sets you up for success if you are willing to put in some effort. We had a few projects and they were manageable if you planned ahead of time.
Class was slides at the speed of light followed by 60% of the class being a big game of guess and check in front of the whole class. "I don't know" was always answered with Marci sighing and saying "Yes you do, c'mon" the same day we were introduced to the topic. I TYPED notes and would still miss entire slides. On YT: "TLC Tutoring" will teach you
Just not a fan. She overcomplicated everything which made me never want to go to class. The material itself is very manageable, but you have to put in the work outside of class to teach it yourself because there aint no way you'll learn it in class.
Very good prof. Put in effort, participate, & start early on assignment 2. I never read, & still managed because I attended each class and did the in-class problems sheet she would give out at the end of each session. Highly recommend Butterfield. Just start typing early...
Attend class, do the work, and you'll do well. Butterfield cares about student success, but the material can be tricky. unstuckstudy was a lifesaver for practice and exam prep - highly recommend using it alongside the textbook.
