Hollenbeck is a typical "mother" type so she's really patient and calm. She's very thorough in her explanations and the class isn't very hard. She's very fair and tests don't have any surprises on them.
Easy, test questions are exactly like the examples in the notes, make sure you know how to do the formulas. Homework problems are 10x harder than her tests. If confused, ask her and she will explain rather thoroughly.
This was a pretty easy class with her. The only advice I have is do the homework. But the tests are easier than the homework.
Homework was time consuming and she does spot check it for completeness and grades for accuracy but she also gives the answers for all of them, so you just have to do it. Test are very straight foward and way easier then homework. No more difficult than high school algebra class.
Extremely easy class, very helpful, tests are easy and for the most part straight out of the book, i highly recommend this teacher.
Decent. Church going. Owns a raisin farm I think. A little spacy and dazy but she knows her stuff and is not offensive. I would rec. taking 71 with her.
Her tests are exactly like the notes, she doesn't try to confuse you like some teachers. The homework was time consuming but fair. She helps you every step of the way, and you can tell she wants you to pass her class.
Wonderful teacher! The homework is a little time consuming, but not busy work. Her tests are straight-foward, very similar to the homework if not taken from it. She is clear and concise, patient and very helpful. If you have a question, she'll work out the problem with you. She's a good teacher and a really nice person too :)
Easy class. Keeps lectures short and sweet, usually lets you out of class early. Test make up most of your grade and are exactly like the H.W except easier. Only bad part is that she assigns ALOT of H.W but not all of it is collected and it only accounts for 15% of your grade. Decent choice for DS71.
This woman has a very kind heart, and a passion for students success. I found myself confused at times, but the next class when we went over homework I always knew what was going on. classes are TO THE POINT, with time left over to do homework or peace out! Tests are super easy, match notes and study guides perfectly. She comes highly recommended!
She is nice and takes a lot of time trying to make sure you understand the material. My only gripe is that at the end of the day she speaks too fast to copy the board so I had to concentrate on that while she talked and I would miss the explanation. I would bring a portable recorder and put it up near the front of the class.
Pay attention and everything will be ok. The prof explains everything very clearly. It is not a hard class if you show up and do the homework. She has cancer, but manages to push through and do a great job anyway. Impressive teacher imo.
she's a Good teacher. Easy A not so easy but passing, yes. Going to class is your choice, she stop taking attendance once the class settle down. She allowed index card cheat sheet for test. Overall, good but test is highly important!! hwk, quizes, other minor stuff is only 15% of your grade. 4 Tests for 60% and final is worth 25%.
Really helpful and eager to teach. Go to class and take lots of notes, really helps with homework. And homework makes up alot of your grade so make sure to do it.
This is a really awful class that I could not understand what is she talks about. She skip alot of improtant things which we had on test. God bless this class.
Great professor. She gets the class involved, knows exactly what she's talking about, and cracks jokes from time to time. She'll clarify anything, just ask. Gives sort of a lot of homework, but you'll do really well on the tests if you do it. Definitely recommend taking her for this class.
HARD! When class starts we went over homework and when you ask for help on a problem all she does it do the problem, I did all the homework and extra credit and I got a C on one exam and Ds on the other two, she wouldn't work with me, and told me I could only get a D. I worked as hard as I could, don't take her if you are not good at math
One of my favorite professors so far and you don't have to be great at math. She truly cares about her students success and lectures about exactly what is going to be on every problem of your h.w and gives study guides for the test. The only way people will say it is hard is if they didn't put in the time to practice. Highly recommend taking her!
The BEST instructor I've ever taken, EVER at State. I hadn't had the chance to rate her, but I had taken this course about 3 semesters ago. She made everything crystal clear. I didn't even purchase the book, and I still felt like I was breezing through the course. It wasn't a matter of just passing the class, I actually understood the material.
Easy material, mostly algebra 1, but she doesnt explain things very well. I did well because i remember most of the stuff, but if you struggle with math i would not recommend this teacher.
Hollenbeck is a great professor, her teaching is pretty good but sometimes she would make a easier problem into a hard one. Overall, she isn't bad at all, you must really stay on top of things because she corrects homework every single day.
It takes time to comprehend. she lectured for 30 minutes then dismissed class. She went over some problems and misgraded tests. I had to fight to get an A.
This is a class that should only be taken by students who already know the material. She runs through chapters incredibly fast and it makes it impossible to even do the homework. I would not recommend her to anyone who is anything less than fantastic at DS71/Math. Only sign up for this class if it is your last resort.
Good teacher! Goes through topics thoroughly and makes things very clear. If you're somewhat good at math and go to every class you can easily get an A.
Very fast at teaching and it isn't so bad..she's a pretty cool and easy teacher. However, she assigned a lot of homework.
Read the cmts & listen! She does assign a lot of homework and works at a very fast pace. She's not even teaching, instead shows us that she knows the material by running through a problem as quickly as possible then turns around with a huge smile while half the class stares back blankly. because she can't teach, teach yourself & resort to a tutor.
Pretty easy , very helpful, u definetly gotta do ur hw
Material was kind of difficult since I do not like stats but she was very clear on her explanations and examples, take notes during her lectures and do her hw thats assign also ask questions and review on hw, tests were okay.
If you are planning on taking Math 103, I highly recommend taking it with Mrs. Hollenbeck. She's a really good instructor. Just do all your work and take good notes and you will As her tests with flying colors.
She is such a nice professor. Extremely helpful, just need to talk with her. I've always had a hard time with stats, but she went out of her way to help me. Great professor. Take her!!
She made me like math. Very helpful and nice. If you need help take her class definitely.
Great professor. Really knows what she's teaching. Tries to connect as many real world examples as she can. Clear on what HW is as well as whats on the test. May go a bit quick but offers class time to catch up. Biggest piece of advice ASK QUESTIONS!! After every part of the lesson she asks if anyone has questions, if you do then ask!
She's easy sometimes but the explanations she gives are horrible. I couldn't keep up and it seems as if she doesn't really want you to come to office hours because when I went she was very cold. If you're good in math already, take it with her. If not, don't bother.
There is so much homework given, knowing that we have other classes. She was never clear, she just seemed to be all over the place. I feel like she wasn't good at explaining. She has preferred students and basically if you're not one of them, she will seem almost bothered if you ask for help...You're basically teaching yourself.
Great teacher. People complain about homework after each chapter but how else are you going to practice the material? She lectured pretty fast but how else are you supposed to jam homework questions and lecture in less than 40 minutes. Great teacher , people just need to realize they have to earn their grade.
Horrible teacher. She rushes through all lectures. Doesn''t provide help if you need it. Complains when we don''t understand problems. She is very scattered. She took 2 whole weeks to grade a 21 problem test. She does not teach well at all. She is completely scattered and does not do anything in order. Horrible and I do not recommend
She lectures very fast but for me, she's easy to understand. If you're good at math, take her! If not, I wouldn't recommend her at all.
She does teach fast &I can see how students may have a hard time with that. I had to retake this class and so it made it a bit easier but there were also some stuff I hadn't learned previously that I learned well from her. I understood her better vs the previous teacher. The only negative is that she didn't email me back about my grade.
Went into the class hearing that not many people pass, came out with an A. She likes to make sure that her students understand what's going on, so ask questions if you need to, she WILL explain! She sets a specific amount of time for each thing to do (hw, lecture, etc) so if you go through fast you get out early (I did everyday). She's great!
Mrs. Hollenbeck is very fast paced, which I found it hard to keep up w the class. You have to remain consistent w the class or you'll get lost (if you can't keep up, take a different teacher). She is pretty straightforward w her expectations. I'd recommend seeking her assistance everyday when it comes to homework or tests.
Great lecturer. Felt easy at first, but if you miss class you won't understand what to do. The DS Lab REALLY HELPED. I suggest going every week to help you with homework.
Although attendance isn't mandatory, you'll be lost without her lectures. She us pretty clear and will always offer help when you need it. She is definietly there to help you along and does her best to prepare you for test. If you can understand the concepts, it's an easy A. Would definitely recommend her.
If you study for the 3 tests that she usually has, you'll do good. I only got a C because I didn't study for the firsts 2 test (F & D), but got a 94% on last one. Homework is graded by your self in class and she gives you the right answers. It's all due before each test so you have time to finish. Also, online quizzes are due at the end semester
If you have a good math background you'll do awesome. Straightforward understand all your homework and do them on time and you'll do good on the test. I would definitely take this class if i needed to
She goes over her lectures very fast. Very is easy class and she is hilarious. Majority of the time you'll get out of class early. EASY TEST AND CLASS.
Hollenbeck is a great teacher that is very flexible when it comes to turning in homework and taking tests. She moves pretty quick through her lessons but is very clear. I personally thought the class was very easy, but a lot of my classmates did not agree with me. Overall, if you show up to class on a regular basis you should not have a problem.
She was a great professor and I wish she taught DS73 too! She was flexible when it came to missing class for a good reason, and her tests were exactly like the problems she assigned in class. The lectures were easy to follow and if you didn't get something, she was more than willing to help.
For me math is a difficult subject and mrs. Hollenbeck is a big help. There are a few tests, there are also online quizzes that are open from day one til the end of the semester, start early because there is alot. I would recommend you do the quizzes after each section because it helps with tests. tests are in the testing center. there is homework
Hollenbeck is a very helpful teacher and answers all questions you have. Tests are tough, expect to study often in order to pass the tests. Online quizzes help you study, and add a lot to your grade at the end of the semester (don't procrastinate on them).
Doesn't mess around. Goes through lecture material fast every class but if you ask questions she will explain better. Almost always had class time after lecture to start on homework and ask questions if needed. I'm TERRIBLE at math but liked her because I knew everything she said was relevant and worth listening to. She will not waste your time.
With a little bit of help from the tutoring center, this class was a breeze. Hollenbeck really looks out for her students, so long as they are willing to put in the effort. It's as simple as this: if you pay attention, do your homework, and get clarification where you're confused, you'll most likely pass this class with flying colors
Profesor Hollenbeck is amazing! I really have a hard time with math and i struggle understanding it but she is awesome. She really takes the time to make sure you understand whatand going on. I've been trying to pass math forever and I finally have.
Go to lectures. She'll go over any questions on the old hw and she writes the new hw on the board. EC offered but don't rely on it. Go to tutoring if you need extra help or ask her, she's willing to help. Lectures were straightforward and easy to understand for me.
she explains how to do the math just like in any other class in her lectures so you should go every time if she goes too fast just ask her to slow down also, there are online quizzes that you have to complete but theyre really helpful and I recommend going to the lab she is a geek which she admits herself but its really cute and funny do the hw
Loved this professor, had her in the Fall of 2015 for DS-71. The class itself is generally easy because it is basic algebra, but when it gets harder she walks through every step to ensure you fully understand the concept. Her class was very helpful as well for later business classes. She is also very friendly, I still say hi to her in the halls
There are plenty of extra credit opportunities that are added to your exam score. You don't need to put forth much effort besides the homework, online quizzes and tests. There is a common final, so it's not like her tests and it's annoying, but just do the extra credit to make up for it.
Very sweet hearted and understanding, she does everything on her part to get you to pass, always offering extra credit and make up work for full credit, will reopen online assignments if you ask and are nice, is very thorough in explaining problems and doesnt mind at all for asking help, makes class fun with question of the day! Take her!! Great!
If you have to take DS71 I recommend you take it with Hollenbeck. She taught this course really well, had weekly assignments from the textbook but only collected homework 4x a semester, which was very helpful. Her tests were not hard at all, they were all 25 Qs but the final was about 45. Easy class, & shes so nice, definitely would take again.
Best math instructor I have every had. She presents the materials in a clear manner. You only turn in your HW a few time during the semester, STAY ON TOP OF IT. She cares about her students and will take the time to help you understand the material, just ask if you don't understand. I would absolutely take another class with her in the future.
Best instructor I have ever had . Math has always been my hardest subject but with her she honestly makes sure each person in class understands . You can ask her 100 questions if you dont understand and she will take the time to answer it . Yes a lot of homework but believe me it helps !
Correction : Best instructor I have ever had . Math has always been my hardest subject but with her she honestly makes sure each person in class understands . You can ask her 100 questions if you dont understand and she will take the time to answer it . Yes a lot of homework but believe me it helps !
I took Hollenbeck for DS71 last year and she is the best math teacher Ive ever had. Now that Im taking DS73 I wish she taught it as well! Lots of HW but it helps to understand the material and she will explain anything you dont understand!
She is a very caring person who shows she wants all her students to pass. She showed to be a bit unorganized and would struggle during the semester with grading and keeping up with the schedule. The material can become confusing if you miss class or not do the homework so I highly recommend you do all the homework especially the one for test 2
A lot of my friends had to retake this class with other professors. But she is so clear and understanding. She will take the time to answer questions from lectures and homework. She makes it very clear on what is going to be on the test. She goes out of her way to make sure her students are prepared. If you fail its because you didn't try.
Take Mrs. Hollenbeck! Super caring and sweet. She is very busy but will always make time outside of class. Tutoring helps too if youre struggling. Class takes participation and isnt an easy A. But hollenbeck does her best to teach you the easiest way. I recommend her!!
While she is pretty clear on the lectures, she does trail off here and there. She's unorganized. Unwilling to explain a problem more than twice, even if you really don't get it. She gets impatient with students if they don't understand quickly. She's also not opposed to giving you attitude, which is, in my opinion, not acceptable and unprofessional
She is very caring and nice. She goes off track a lot and a lot of time is wasted. There is so much to cover and it seems like we never get to learn it. The learning is mainly up to you. There are 4 midterms and one final. There will be homework everyday and there are around 20 online quizzes to do. she is a good teacher but she gives a lot of work
She really makes sure that students are given what they need to succeed. Easily one of the most comprehendible math professors I have had. She was awesome.
Great professor! Pretty easy for a math class but there is homework almost every night. She goes over all the homework in class and it's really easy to get all of the points for it. One term project that she will help you with if you go in for help. Would definitely take again.
Good teacher! Her lessons are very clear which makes the work easy, but you definitely need to go to class to understand. She takes attendance almost every day. Would take again.
She can be unorganized or side tracked at times but overall I learned a lot and she took the time to explain things when kids were confused. Tests were exactly what she would say to expect.
I would take another professor if you struggle with math. She doesn't really teach the material she just puts examples up on the board and expects you to have already learned the material. Her class is easy if you show up and are able to teach yourself just daily homework assignments, she comes off as rude
Professor Hollenbeck is an amazing instructor. Her classes are easy to follow and she is easily accesible outside of class. she will do her best to help her students and has a clear grading criteria. There are about 4 exams and the homework is easy as long as you pay attention and attend class.
Professor Hollenbeck is one of the best professors I've ever taken at Fresno State! She's always open to help you if you do not understand anything and takes her time to explain if you do not understand what she's teaching! All homework assignments are due the day of the exam and the exams are pretty okay/easy if you study! Don't skip class!!!!!!
if you study , you could pass every test. Her lectures are very easy to understand , and she will help you if you need it.
Her lectures are pretty good, she assigns homework every time you have class. Tests are pretty tough.
Gives descriptive/good lectures, so if you pay attention you will be fine. She is a funny teacher and she always has a funny story during lectures.
I've always had a hard time in math but she's gr8 at teaching. There was online hw every class due before the next class. The hw was usually exactly what we had learned that day but if you still have a hard time, you can get by using the show me an example option. Also, she's pretty generous on extending deadlines for hw but dont fall behind!!
Im going to miss Professor Hollenbecks class! Shes such a great professor who explains her lessons very well. Shes accessible outside of class and cares about her students learning. Its not a hard class if you stay on top of your homework thats given every class and online quizzes that are due at the end of the semester. I recommend her!
Professor Hollenbeck was clear at teaching, but she does go pretty quickly in class. She's nice and easy to talk to if you have any questions. The class itself isn't hard as long as you take some time to study. She almost always extended the due date of the homework (which is kind of annoying if you actually did it on time). Overall I recommend.
I normally HATE math but I enjoyed her class. She's funny and engaging so lectures are more interesting. Very forgiving on due dates, she will sometimes extend the due date if you ask her to/ if the class had a hard time with the assignment/tech issues. Online homework assignments due (mostly) every class. Would recommend her for math!
Such a kind professor. I hated math and always struggled with it until I had her as a professor. She is so friendly and personable. You really do have to work hard to stay on top of the material but she explains math very well.
took online class and she didn't teach us at all. All the learning comes form you reading the text book or watching videos. All she does is give hw and tests but all of the questions are different for every1. She doesn't leave reviews open before tests and doesn't let you see what you got wrong on tests even though you can take them twice. fml
I took online her DS71 Async class for Spring 2021 and honestly wasn't too difficult. As long as you stay on track and complete all your assignments you should be fine. If you like a structured class with consistent assignments, then this class is for you. There's assignments very other day, once you get in the routine should be easy.
Super sweet professor. Shes very lenient on grading and late assignments. There is a LOT of work but if you stay on track you will pass. Math can be difficult to learn but she makes it easy and is very entertaining!
She gives a ridiculous amount of homework, approximately 3-4 hours worth per lesson, with up to 3 lessons per week plus tests, review, and projects sprinkled in. I understand the need to have homework in order to practice, but 30 multi-step questions on average, per lesson is excessive, especially with all of my other classes to consider.
Take this professor! She is great and always willing to help! Exams were online. Stay on top of online assignments.
The HW assignments were time consuming, but they help you understand the concepts. They're done through mymathlab and you have unlimited tries. Tests were online (take-home), and you have 2 tries. I would definitely recommend this professor, especially if you have a hard time with math, she really simplifies things. Just attend lectures.
Easy A if you do the assignments and go to the lectures. Sometimes she can get off track and talk about other things but her stories are interesting. There are about 4 assignments ( 2 online/ 2 written) every week with each about 10 questions. There is a test after every chapter with 20 questions (10 online/ 10 in class). Takes attendance.
Mrs. Hollenbeck is a great and kind teacher. She gives quite a bit of homework an online and written for each section but it helps you understand the lesson. Homework is peer graded and technically not due until the end of the chapter. She gives an online and written quiz for each section as well.
Professor Hollenbeck is a great instructor, the lessons she teaches are difficult but she makes them easy to understand. Attendance is not mandatory but missing class can easily cause you to fall behind as she gives a lot of homework, about 2 assignments per lesson. She is a great instructor and I would recommend taking her as a professor
Would not take her again! Way too many assignments especially weekly quizzes.
One of the best math teacher's I've had. She's very detailed so she makes sure everyone has a clear understanding of the material and is not afraid to help you 1:1 if needed. Tests are really straight forward and similar to the homework. She's very lenient on homework and you have a lot of time to grade and correct for points before it's all due.
She was a great teacher, always made sure the entire class understood what she was teaching. The notes she discusses in class really helps with assignments. Attendance not mandatory, but I passed with an A because I went to class. Exams are online and easy to understand if you have the notes/help from being in class.
To get a good grade you have to go to class otherwise you will get behind quickly. There are a lot of homework assignments and exams as well. In order to get an A you have to complete all assignments. I had an A the whole semester and the last 2 weeks messed me up.
Awesome Professor! She really cares about her students and wants them to not only pass but understand the problems and concepts. She is willing to go above and beyond for her students. If you want to pass the class, go to class.
Lots of homework I had M/W/F and each day had an online assignment and written assignment, about 6 assignments a week, online & in person test, all our work through the book so its required during lectures she tends to tell random stories but is caring & If you need extensions she will provide them, will call you out for being on ur phone/computer.
This class is easy if you show up and listen to the lectures. There isn't much homework, and chapter tests are generally open-note. Professor Hollenbeck is very caring and makes herself available for help. Homework is done via the online textbook, but no textbook reading is required.
Whether your good or bad at math, you'll do fine. Theres 2 homework versions for each section. She has students grade their paper in class. There's 1 project. She also allows hmwrk corrections. theres written tests and online tests for the same chapter. Don't miss lectures, or you'll have a harder time. Make sure to buy the right calculator.
DONT TAKE THIS CLASS UNLESS YOU HAVE HOURS TO GIVE. She gives a RIDICULOUS amount of homework. I've been warned by friends that took her that said not to take her but I was only taking 3 other classes but I spent more time on homework in this class alone than in all 3 together. She is however so so sweet and understanding. But it's way too much.
Lots of homework. Online part and written part that you'll correct in class. Don't fall behind, it is hard to catch up but possible. After every chapter there is an online test and then a written test for 2 chapters together. Can't use notes for those. Overall, just do all of your work when its given and study hard.
This class is a lot of hard work. For every lecture there is an online and written homework. For every 2 chapters completed there are written and online exams as well. Passing without attending every class would be difficult. If you put in the effort and attend the learning center and her office hours when needed, you will pass.
best professor I've had so far. like other reviews, she assigns a lot of homework, but shes also very understanding and offers many different helpful resources. Very flexible and understanding with busy schedules as long as you communicate. loved her
This professor is super sweet and understanding. She is great at lecturing and makes the material easy to understand. Homework is assigned every lecture- there's online homework and paper homework. As long as you do the homework, you're good. Very easy to talk to.
For every lecture there is an online and written homework. For every 2 chapters completed there are written and online exams as well. She assigns A LOT of homework. Passing without attending every class would be difficult. If you put in the effort and attend the learning center and her office hours when needed, you will pass.
After every lecture there is online homework and homework on paper. The beginning of the semester is fairly easy but at the end it gets a little difficult. Her office hours were a big help for me. She is very understanding if you miss class. The portfolio assignment gets pretty confusing so make sure to ask questions.
I love Mrs. Hollenbeck, but there was SO much homework!!!! Get ready to spend 4+ hours a week just doing that. There was also 2-3 tests (online and in person) per section. On the bright side, the class was easy and Mrs. Hollenbeck is a great instructor.
It's very easy to get left behind because she stacks a lot of homework.
She hard to reach outside of class and doesn't respond to emails and can also be snarky at times...she doesnt present the material good you sort of have to teach it to yourself for every chapter there is online and written homework. She rambles and wastes a lot of time.
