AWESOME. Assistant Director and professor for the Honors Program. You will learn so much, she knows her stuff... a mentor for life. Extremely helpful and friendly. Truly one of a kind - so unique, fun, interesting, and cool.
Completely disorganized and gives different classes different assignments and information. No one has any idea what is due when or what she expects!
Class is not essential to anything in life. Anyone with common sense knows the stuff we "learn". Basically a class full of reading boring material.
this is the most pointless class, you don't learn anything useful. Bohm is not God! Personal recommendation-don't do honors!
The class is uninteresting and just added stress. But, she is really cool. You can learn alot from her. Alot of students don't like her but I think she is great. The facilitators help you out alot but she is totally willing to help if you want it.

as a person, she is really nice, but as a professor, at least for Inquiry into Communication, she was really unhelpful and made more unilateral decisions over the facilitators than i could count.
Inquiries was the most useless class I have ever taken. Marcia informs everyone what she expects from an assignment after she has us turn it in. For teaching a class on communication, she sure lacks the skills she tries to teach.
I doubt that she has completely grasped the material covered in her class. At the bare minimum, she fails horribly at expounding the Bohm philosophy. I recommend that Mrs. Ladendorff (No Ph.D.) spend more time studying the philosophies of Watts.
I do agree that she waits untill after the assignments are turned in before she tells us what we really should have done. This class is a waste of time. The only thing I got out of it was meeting some hot chicks
Class had a good concept but was inadequately taught. Teacher was unclear, unfair, and paranoid. When asked for help she disregards you until you bring it to the guy above her. She will nail you for plagarism if she doesnt like you. bad communicator!
Marcia's Media Literacy class was fabulous. The material was fascinating, and she did a great job facilitating constructive discussions. Don't listen to the other reviews--that was for a stupid required freshman course. Marcia is fun and easy to talk to

she's a good teacher but she tends to think her work load is the only work load you have. be prepared to read a lot for med lit. stick it out though... reading lightens up. papers are tough. be ready for a low first grade. she's got her own writing style.
Good teacher who tries to be helpful but is poor at execution. Class was hijacked by disillusionment 3/4 of the way through, causing the focus to shift to busywork and a lack of control by the professor.
EXTREMELY hard grading of papers. Lots of reading. Do the reading, or twice. Talk in class. Talk to her after class and she will love to help. Still hard. Talk to facilitators too.

This lazy ineffective teacher doesnt have a masters..or PhD. She has a BA in some odd little communications major. Her inability to teach large groups of people is very easy to spot. If you want an A...drop the class.

Wonderful teacher, lots of experience. Been taking her courses for a while and I can't help but think that anyone who complains about her is just not up to par.
Marcia Ladendorff builds her classes well. Learning is a pleasure with her--you learn fascinating concepts about communication in a way that is enjoyable and not overly difficult. She chooses texts well and discussions are fantastic, for students who are invovled with, and enjoy their education.
An excellent teacher. Great class discussions. Marcia shows concern for her students. You'll definitely learn!
worst class i've taken so far. she makes honors almost not worth it. she lives in her own delusional world that her class actually matters and warrants workloads that are ridiculous for a one hour course. you have to take her, so deal with it, but fight until the end reminding her she's worthless.
Marcia is a very caring person, but she takes her class too seriously. She assigns very interesting readings but they are very long. No tests, a paper a week atleast, and she grades on her mood. Do not take her if you care about your GPA!

She is very knowledgeable and enthusiastic about what she teaches. People didn't give her another chance after Inquiry, but she really is a great teacher. Very caring and when she does criticize, it's always constructive.
I took Marcia for Art of Comm, and hated her. However, as the facilitator for Portfolio she did not grade anything or have a chance to ruin my GPA, and I loved her. She has finely tuned insight that allows her to tease out what you mean even when you don't know, which is exactly what you need for portfolio. I would reccomend her for this class
Marcia is one of the best teachers I have had at UNF. Apparently she taught a class that went horribly wrong two years ago, hence the bad reviews on here. Almost everyone outside that class agrees she is a great teacher. Be prepared to do work in her class, yet the readings are very interesting. I have learned a lot of amazing things from her.
This class was required for the honors program, and for only 1 credit hour, the course load was more than any of my other classes. She was an unpleasant person, extremely unclear about what she wanted, and failed my final paper for plagiarism even though I clearly cited my sources.
Marcia is one of the best teachers that I've ever had at UNF. (I can honestly say that only about 3 of all the professors that I've had in the past 3 years...) She is passionate about what she teaches. Tough, but very helpful and gives a lot of constructive criticism whenever it's due. Do the reading and participate in class discussions!!!
I took Inquiry 3 years ago when it failed miserably. The facilitators were on a power trip and Marcia always seemed to be way too busy to deal w/it. Since then, however, I have spoken with her about internships in the Washington Center, and she has been nothing but helpful. In my experience, if you are outspoken and active, she will appreciate it.
I took Marcia for a 6 hour class, Constructing Realities, and enjoyed her very much. As long as you were doing your best, Marcia was a world of help. She was positive and tried her best to be clear and accommodating. I really loved her class.
Really difficult class, not all that interesting after the first month, gets ridiculous after midterms
I was in the same class with the two people who commented below. Marcia has some wild views and if you stand your ground she will aplaud you during the class but she will doc your grade. I agreed with what marica said through the mid term and got an A but disagreed on my final, a much better paper and got a C all the class grades follow this trend.

DO NOT take her! She is the rudest teacher I have ever had. She talks down to students. The homework load was more than any upper level class I have taken. She doesn't return e-mails and pretty much thinks she knows everything. She does not explain assignments at all and then is irritated when everyone fails! WORST TEACHER EVER! Class is miserable!
Thinks way too much of herself. If she asks for your opinion, you better give her what she thinks is correct! Work load is excessive and doesn't facilitate learning at all!
I hated her class. I ended up dropping it because what she talked about had nothing to do with media. basically the class turned into "the government controls your mind". she is completely biased and you have to agree with her to get an A. don't take her.
If all you're concerned about is your perfect GPA-this isn't for you. If you want to learn,then take Marcia. Class can be tough, there's lots of reading, and she will tear your paper apart. But she knows her stuff and she knows what she's looking for. Open up, start thinking, and be willing to work and you will walk away better for it.
Do not take this professor! She's awful, does not follow her syllabus at all. Sprung a group project on the class that was never in the syllabus. Rude, asked for class participation in discussion, but if you went against what she thought, she'd move on to someone else and basically shut you down. Worst professor I've had so far!
People who wrote bad things about Marcia must be incredibly lazy. I think she is an incredible person in the classroom and out. If you take any class with her, be prepared to work hard and maybe even learn a thing or two. This is the only class that I've ever walked out of going, "Man, I really learned a lot this semester." I'd take her agin.
Marcia can be a little crazy sometimes..but she really does care and she wants things done right the first time and everything works on a schedule. She keeps you on your toes and makes sure that you try your best or she'll point it out for you until you either give up or change.
She's THE worst! I had a 4.0 before her class. How did I ace classes like calculus and core, but get a B in hers? I'd get papers back with not a correction in sight, yet I still didn't EVER get full credit. She is EXTREMELY biased. If you're not with her you're against her, and she'll destroy you. I'll always regret not dropping her class. Run!!!!

For Constructing Realities, Marcia is awesome.I wouldn't take any other Honors class.She's REALLY not as bad as rated.She truly cares&wants you to do well,is understanding,laid back.Class is discussion-based(I love it)No textbook,real books.Not too much written work;midterm, final,3 Call&Responses(not bad)Funny,AMAZING.We Love her.Be real&honest.
I found some of the stuff interesting but when we got closer to the election that is all we did. She will give outlines but all she really wants is a research paper style so look up EVERYTHING! So if your lazy dont take this class.
Awesome teacher....if you open up to her ideas you can learn soo much!! Gives a lot of extra credit...You can def. pull off an A!
Marcia Marcia Marcia. She is a great teacher. Class is easy and there is no real agenda. Most classes were discussions and she kind of opens your eyes to other ideas.
Marcia is an amazing women. Her classes are very structured (I have taken Comics Out of the closet, art of communication, and media literacy service learning). There is a lot of reading to be done and you have to follow or you will not get a good participation grade. She is also pretty HOT!
Marcia is an amazing teacher. She is difficult but her class is very interesting. She is a great teacher and is very helpful in and out of the classroom. I recommend anyone to take her classes!!
She's kind of strange, but can be interesting. We only had quizzes the first half of the semester, and there are no tests. Just some ad deconstructions, and a media project(which is very easy).
Marcia can be arrogant and quite rude. She personally insults students and lectures feel like a waste of time that I could have been meeting in my small group with my facilitator instead of listening to her babble about useless crap.
Marcia is rude. She does not follow what she herself teaches; she is disrespectful to her students and spent her lecture time treating us like 5 year olds. We know how to use a comma-- you can skip that lecture. And also the one about run-on sentences. Disorganized, insecure, sloppy; maybe in a small-class setting she would have been better.
It's true she can be unclear about what she wants from you and can get upset if you ask her to clear up an assignment. But other than that, she truly knows what she's talking about and has a lot of experience in communications: anchor for CNN and local station 12. I would recomend this class for those who seriously want to know more about media!!!
SHE'S CRAZY!! If you don't mind being insulted by a professor then go ahead and take this class. Granted I did learn a few things, but still dreaded going to class. She wrote a few students emails asking them to keep comments/questions to themselves. Has no problem saying "that's stupid" to anything you say. Avoid her if possible.
Media Literacy is similar to every english class, except you're analyzing media. Books and documentaries were very interesting but that's about it. Participate in discussions of this class. She LOOKS for problems in your writing and thus finds more than REALLY exist. Doesn't matter if you make a good argument if you "miss the point" you are wrong.
She is alright. She will work with the class and try to help students. There is not much work in the class. She was upset she has a 0 for hotness so I gave her a "chilipepper". Good class to take if you like media!

I took her class 2 years ago and I could not help but stop when I came across her name to write this. She is a horrible professor!!! I cannot believe great teachers are losing their jobs and she still has hers! DO NOT TAKE HER! I am an A student, Im not afraid to work. She is mean and a waste of money.
Overall, she is a great professor since she really knows the material she teaches. However, she can be condescending and rude to her students at times. She also is a tough grader on the two presentations assigned during the semester. Not my favorite professor, but I DO have a lot of respect for her!!

Most of the slams she gets are from students who don't want to work. She makes you work hard and in the end, you are happy you took the class.
Scary but good. She really loves the subject and gives us a lot of freedom to write our opinions. Some people hate her but her classes always fill fast.
She lets you speak your mind, but she doesn't respect you if you don't agree with her. She assumes she knows what you've been through and can be very judgemental. You should go to class though, if you want to do well. It is possible to do well and not be a communist like her. :)
I took Constructing Realities with Marcia my first semester in college and it was a very inspiring class. She makes you work hard but in the end you become a better writer and critical thinker/reader. Marcia has a great insight into the Mass Media Business and has a great message in her Constructing Realities class. Great Class Great Teacher

I think people misunderstood her. She is willing to help you. Her class is discussion-based. Speak up for participation points. The books we have to read are actually fun books. You have to read them! I LOVE how she inputs the grades in blackboard. As long as you do your work and talk in class, then you should get an A! :D
She was kind of meh all around. Class isn't too hard but attendance is mandatory and the prof. thinks she is smarter than she is. She is really just a crazy conspiracy-theorist. I would recommend for an easy, if boring, A/B
dont take her. not a fair grader, always thinks shes right pretends like she will work with you but really doesnt care or help. completed the vast majority of a group project on my own, however recieved the lowest grade for wearing shorts to the presentation -___-

Easy A/B. Shes quite rude, hates technology and thinks she is always right but the class was not bad. As long as you read the books and participate in class. There was a quiz practically every class and she does not do a good job at explaining what she wants to see on projects but as long as you try and dress the part its an easy A.
Easy grade. LOTS of grades, there is a quiz on every chapter in the book, several media deconstructions, and three projects. There is one group project, and the final project, which you have to present. She does really seem to hate technology, so be prepared for discussions to include how horrible the world is now.
She's straight forward with what she expects. Attendance is mandatory, you will fail if you don't go to class. There are plenty of opportunities to earn grades, obviously you have to do your work to earn them. She gives tons of chances for extra credit to help your grades as well.
She was a cool professor. Her background in communications is helpful. The text was very hard to follow but she helped in every way
She's great. I like that she doesn't lecture to the book. You will have a quiz on every single chapter though, so read and take good notes. She expects participation from her students, and she pushes you to really dissect the world around you. Attendance is mandatory. No cell phones.But I highly recommend!!
She is experienced in the field, but she doesn't know everything like she think she does. She was very critical (not in a constructive way) on the group projects. Overall, I would not recomend taking her class. I learned very little from her lectures.
She is the hardest teacher I have encountered in my enitire life. Her grading scale is BRUTAL and her exams are insanely difficult. The first exam no one got an A, and only two people got B's. The class size has shrunk in half from all the students who have had to drop the course. She should not be teaching and I would NOT reccomend her to anybody.
I LOVE Ladendorff, She is an inspiration. she reminds me of Martha Stuart. she is extremely intelligent and charismatic, the people who gave her a low rating are just lazy and stupid :)
I did not have a good experience with this prof. The main problem is she stopped teaching midway through the semester and stuck us with group presentations. Tests are ridiculous and confusing. If you have to take her like I did good luck.
I had her for IDS 1999 Constructing Reality. She is a good professor who takes genuine interest in what she teaches, and if YOU take interest, you can pass this class. The content was interesting, however I felt she was choppy in between the advertising lectures and the grammar quizzes she hands out from time to time.
I had a terrible experience taking two classes with this professor. She spends most of her time talking about herself and her own views. She picks favorites. Both classes I took with her were IDENTICAL, even though they were completely different classes (one was mass media, the other was constructing reality). Her tests are impossible.
Most cynical woman I have ever met! Just went on and on about her cynical view of everything. Homework assignments were graded on her perception of ad's. If you don't line up to what her perceptions are, you're pretty much screwed. Take another professor if you can!
She really knows what she is talking about. Pretty much no homework. She just asks to read the chapter before class. If you dont read, there's no problem. It will just be harder to catch up if reading the night before the exam because there are a lot to read. Exams are pretty easy, though. Just read the key words and her exam review.
Mrs Ladendorff is very fun. She keeps the lectures interesting. Exams are pretty easy. Just dont leave the studying for the night before because it is a lot. She gives exam reviews so just study everything she says! She's helpful and always reply emails quickly. Def recommend her!
Mrs Ladendorff really knows what she is talking about. She may be a tough grader sometimes but if you try to understand what was wrong, it will definitely improve your writing. Mrs L is always willing to help student outside the class. TAKE HER!
I took her my freshman year and made a B+ during the summer. Quiz everyday for summer term, however if you study and listen they are a breeze. She gives alot of work, but only to help you understand the material. Most students complain because they're lazy and refuse to study and/or pay attention. If you're a comm major, TAKE HER!!!
This woman is very hard to deal with. She has a very unpleasant personality. Her grading is so difficult and the exams are brutal.
She is very unorganized. She is not clear on her expectations or gives them last minute on her projects. She doesn't teach anything from the textbook, but that is what you are tested on. She just has speakers come in to class to speak and shows documentaries that are biased.
She's one of those teachers who really wants you to do well, and I really liked that. She made me want to try, and when I did nothing was that hard. One of my favorite professors, I changed my major so I could take more classes with her.
This teacher really expects you to read the text. If you think you can just come to class and listen, you will fail the tests. The class is an easy "A" if you just follow the syllabus and don't miss class. Most test questions are pulled from the test bank. So go for the on-line book and PRACTICE!
Horrible teacher. Would not recommend. She is vert unclear & has POOR communication skills. Her lectures have nothing pertaining to the labs. Her quizzes are over an enormous amount of material. Only teacher unf offers for this class...:(
Class is easy once if you just study her study guides word-for-word. It is, after all, a freshmen level course.
Once you figure Ms. L out, her class isn't that bad. Has a "you need to teach yourself" philosophy that ended up being very clever. Quizzes are easy if you read. HUGE ambiguous group assignment present in this class. Not sure I'd suggest her but she isn't the worst prof by any means.
this professor is TERRIBLE. I have been in her class for one week and am considering changing my major because I can't deal with her. Our entire class bombed the first quiz because she put information that was not even in the text on it. I sent her an email with a very simple question and she couldn't answer it. AVOID HER AT ALL COSTS
Worst professor I have ever had at UNF. The first quiz (which was out of 10 points) resulted in over 50 people reviving between a 0 and 1. When she teaches she is unclear and wastes class time with movies that are not directly related to the media. A word of advice: do not take her class!!!
Hard quizzes and tests but if you read the material you will do fine. She is very helpful and willing to help you, if you care then she cares. She realized everyone was flunking so she gave extra credit and it was very helpful in the end.
You probably won't learn anything in this class but since it's mandatory... study the book and ignore her lectures. She is only helpful when it comes to the group project. Project is super easy if you follow the instructions and use creativity. Quizzes & Tests are hardest part of the class. READ THE BOOK!
I made a B in her class and could have easily gotten an A if I purchased the book and studied a little bit harder for the class. I thought her topics were interesting. This class has been one of my favorites at UNF. What you make of her class will depend on if you like or dislike it. I liked it!
You don't get a choice, you have to take her. She's a successful woman but she's not the best teacher. I learned some things in her class but my grades really couldn't reflect that. She "teaches" about her experience and then tests us on the book's information. You aren't really prepared for her exams.
She is a horrible professor. She doesn't teach. She tests you on stuff she hasn't taught you. The Lab is decent but the professor is rude, disrespectful and not a good teacher. AVOID AT ANY COST!!
I am taking Prof. L for two classes and am barely passing either. Her teaching style is the worst. She doesn't teach much, just regurgitates what is in the book. I have not leaned much, other then what I have taught myself. She can also be very very VERY RUDE. Avoid her if possible.
She isn't the best teacher I had at UNF. She flies through powerpoints and doesn't throughly explain projects. She can be pretty rude when you share your feedback in class. However I did learn a lot.
The way she picks & chooses material for her exams is LUDICROUS. Personally, I do not respond well to professors who are inherently rude and derogatory to students. She discourages people from sticking with the major. (It's communications not physics) & she continuously talks about her time at CNN. Overall, semi-easy class; unpleasant experience.
This professor is THE WORST. I took her over the summer and her quizzes and tests were horribly unfair reflections of book material and lecture. It's hard to know where she gets the material from it's so random. It's sad that she ONLY has bad comments from this current semester. SO GLAD that I got out of having her for MMC3105! AVOID HER

this is my 2nd class with her, I know people give her a bad rap but to be honest I don't think she is bad. She is real and tells you like it is. She is quite diff if you visit during office hours where she is extremely helpful. She has made me more prepared for a job, and I just think people whine because YES you have to work for your grade!
Don't listen to these people. Ladendorff isn't bad she just doesn't put up with lazy whiners who blame her for their problems. The class is about grammar skills, so if you have half a brain and know basic punctuation and the difference between things like affect and effect you'll do fine. It's Communication people, not rocket science!
Prof Ladendorff knows what she's talking about, with extensive experience in the media. This Media Literacy class was more of a hybrid class. So don't expect to just breeze over the powerpoints, you have to read as well! The PPTs are just a summary. She may be tough, but you learn a lot, especially with new social media apps.
Ladendorff is a character- she's worked in the media a lot so she knows what she's talking about, and she's very well spoken, but her tests are absolutely insane, cluttered, and not reflective of work we've covered. I wouldn't recommend her, but you have to take her.
Loved her! She is very educated and an amazing teacher. She teaches a huge class so ask her questions. Stay focused and you should come out of her class with a B.
Ladendorff is a good teacher because she's been around the block with Communications and the Media. However, her lectures are too vague and her tests are all over the place. Read the textbook before or after every class, because otherwise you won't learn half the material. If you pay attention and read, you'll probably come out with a B.
This class is mandatory for communication majors but she is a great teacher. Although class is mandatory you wont learn much in the class. If you wanna do good on the tests thoroughly read the assigned chapters and then take notes/listen to her powerpoint slides in which she voice-overs.
I took these classes in the same semester. Ladendorff is tough, but she gets a bad rep. Don't be rude in her class. Pay attention. She teaches the basics but that doesn't mean you don't need to know it. Study. Outline the chapters (1004). Give her your attention and don't talk over her. Make your name and face known to her. You'll do fine.
This class is a waste of your life. I do not understand how she is still a professor! You MUST go to class and waste your life while 100% of the test is from the book and 0% from her lectures. This is the most pointless class I have ever taken.
Definitely knows her stuff. But a very difficult grader. if you take the lab, don't take TATRO. show up, take notes, and make time to meet with her. definitely not an easy a. if you can pull a b, you're doing amazing. she's really approachable in person though!
Professor Ladendorff was the best professor I've had at UNF. She is extremely helpful and knowledgeable. She is also very approachable. I loved the discussions in her class and she has an interesting point of view. I highly recommend taking her she is wonderful!
Prof. Ladendorff is a wonderful teacher. She is extremely knowledgeable and encourages you to think outside the box. You really need to know how to write well in order to do good in this class. It is not an easy A at all. Study for the tests and read the text and you will do good. Also, her in class discussions were very enlightening.
I had her for 6 weeks this summer and she is Great!! Very helpful, clear teaching and she knows her stuff! Pay attention in class, read the book and study her PowerPoint slides for the test. With the Bb discussions be very detailed about your response. Also, participate in class discussions. I made a B+ but could have done better.
I honestly felt like I did not learn anything directly from her in this class. She pretty much ruined my interest in my own major because of her attitude. Have fun :)
She is a great professor. She may intimidate you in the beginning with her expectations and workload, but she really cares about her students and wants you to succeed. She takes all her time out to be there for her students. You have to work for a good grade in her class but she will make sure you have all the tools you need.
If you're stuck with a poor group in her MMC class, good luck. She's a tad off edge, nice lady overall. Review the powerpoints and NOT the "study guide" for exams - you'll save yourself a couple points. Don't bother buying the textbook!!!
I was very hesitant about taking Ladendoff, but seeing she is the only teacher for this class and you MUST take this class as a comm major I decided to just dive in head first. I loved her and the class was a breeze. Show up, study for the test, and do well on your group project and the class will be an easy A.
MMC3105 lecture ppt will help you pass all the tests but it wouldn't hurt to read the text. One group project and a few tests. MMC1004 it would be wise to show up to this class before her lectures will help you in the writing lab. The lectures will also help you to pass the grammar exam. Good luck.

I have taken her three semesters in a row. This was her first semester teaching this class and it was very difficult. She assigns 5 blogs throughout the semester that are hard and weigh more than the tests. She is a tough grader and offers little help. I have never had a problem with her until this class. Would not take with her again.
This was a really tough class not so much because of the lecture but because of the lab. However, the grammar exam is a killer for most students. Luckily, I passed it the first time but I've heard the Prof. Ladendorff really helps you when you go into her office hours. If you need help, she will be there.
The lecture portion of this class is a grade booster but it really all depends on who you have for your lab instructor. The lab is tough and makes you question your major and writing abilities for sure. Your lab instructor has a lot of say over your work, if not all. My lab instructor (not Ladendorff) was a really tough grader and super subjective.
took her for 2 other classes and the third class media t&e. this class was difficult and confusing. avoid if you can. this was her first time teaching the class. there was no clarity at all.
She is one of those professor's who worked in the industry and it shows! She made me love writing again. Bonus: she's super funny Attendance is a big grade! Worth it to attend
She assigns 10 quizzes online that you get 3 attempts for. If you miss any lectures, you will fail. Go to class to pass! Easy A in her lecture. There is a lab part but if you pay attention in her lectures, you will pass your lab portion of the class.
Online course so I can't speak to what in-person is like. I didn't like her grading criteria. I honestly don't know why I got 100 on one blog post and 90 on another. As others have said, she is rude, unreasonable, and condescending. Had strep and fever on test day, refused 24 hr delay to let meds work. Next week she was sick, no grades for weeks.
Very easy class as long as you show up for her lectures and take the quizzes on time. She is very rude, and doesn't take questions very lightly if you don't understand what you're asked to do. Doesn't reply to emails either so don't bother sending any.
This class okay, but she is awful and rude. First impression of her she didn't give out text book info until the week class started and expected people to have it. Students had trouble viewing a PP and she sent out an email stating that maybe it was our fault we couldn't view it not hers. Don't take her! If this is your major, good luck.
You have a discussion post, two replies, and every other week an Exam due. You'll need to read the chapter, watch her hour long powerpoint & watch videos (some hour long) each week too. Her grading is unclear & you'll never get 100 on posts. VERYYYY tough on grammar and spelling!! Wants everything APA style. Harsh grader, did everything, got low B.
Took for MMC 3105 on campus and MMC 1004 online. Very tough and unclear grader. Definitely makes you work for it. Not the friendliest lady either.
I really enjoyed her class. She is very smart and witty and I think that intimidates a lot of people. She is tough because she expects you to put the work in, it is college! She doesn't pass out A's but she is willing to help you anytime to earn that A. I loved her class and my writing has improved tremendously this semester!
Toughest Online class I had ever taken
Took me awhile to warm up to her. She is a tough grader, she is boring in lectures, and generally her class felt harder than necessary. She reads off the powerpoints but gives points for attendance. Her study guides are vague; she encourages class discussion but topics aren't interesting until end of semester anyways. Like her enough though,
Took Advanced Writing for the Media lecture and was extremely easy. Show up and get points then take quizzes online (3 attempts each) + lab once a week. At end of semester she reopenes quizzes and gives you 5 attempts total to take. The hardest part of the class was passing the communication test (req for major) we didn't really go over it at all.
Her class is extremely interesting and she's a good professor. Don't let the other reviews on here scare you, she's been in the business for a long time and really cares about making sure all her students understand just how important the rules of journalism are. If you are serious about learning journalism, take her class
She's an amazing teacher. Ladendorff lays out what she expects of you. As long as you follow the rules, your writing assignments will get an A. She's super funny and is willing to listen to whatever idea you may have. Attendance is MANDATORY and I wouldn't skip because you miss material and miss attendance grades.
She grades attendance for the lectures, but the lectures weren't helpful. She would sometimes go over how to write, but most of the time would get on tangents of answering student questions that had nothing to do with what we were supposed to cover. I learned more in the labs.
I would never retake this class. Her quizzes are impossible to study for because she just tells you to read a chapter and will literally pull out the most random things from that chapter that make no sense.
The online work/quizzes are completely off-topic from the material she covers in class. I felt like I learned more from the lab work portion of the class. Harsh grader, does not give extra credit and will leave you struggling on your own.
Attendance is mandatory, so dont expect her to excuse your abscense unless youre in a coma.. Online quizzes were all based on grammar, sentence structure, etc. Her lectures are about 50 minutes long and to be honest, felt quite pointless to me. Attendance/quizzes are a small portion of the grade. The lab is where you must put in effort.
Ladendorff has lots of experience and her labs will make you a better writer. They'll also make you a lot more careful, as one mistake knocks you down 50%. If you leave four words in the same order as source material? You're kicked out of the class for good. Unfair, disrespectful policy. BUT I learned a lot. Careful. Remember blood pressure meds.
The labs are the toughest part of this class. For lectures she pretty much reads off the powerpoints. Your grade will drop if you don't show up. The quizes are open-book/online. They all center around the AP format. Lectures are kind of boring but there is some good information. The writing labs will make you a better writer if you apply yourself.
Taking notes on the textbook is graded, ensuring that you read it. Take THOROUGH notes; you'll need them for the online free-response quizzes. We have truly eye-opening discussions in class. Don't miss the class before the exam, she reviews what you need to know!! Directions on discussion posts could be clearer, but I have no further complaints.
doesn't respond to emails, is condescending asked questions & waste class time discussing current events/ her interest. test and quizzes on the textbook- never on material discussed in class. discussion posts are just essays on random topics & are 1/2 your grade. the TA is your only hope, ask them to review your discussion before you submit it
The professor has had multiple instances of directly lying about certain pieces of information. For example, if she graded something incorrect on a quiz, she would say she meant to do so. Also, if you are planning on having a trip, be prepared to not have your work made up. She offers to grade later assignments but never gets around to them.
I dreaded going to this class. Assignment due dates were unclear, lectures were never applicable and such a harsh grader. We had "manifestos" (papers) due pretty much every other week which I dreaded more than anything. I couldn't get above a 75 to save my life. We had quizzes once a week on one chapter instead of a couple tests on multiple chapters. Only good thing about this class is she added 5 points onto your final grade. She made me want to drop out of college.
Unnecessarily hard. Attendance was mandatory, but a complete waste of time. She would say one thing was important and never quiz you on it. Quizzes and exams situational and impossible to study for. She put the most random information on it. She is impossible to contact, and rude. Do not take her unless you absolutely have to.
She graded on quizzes we weren't prepared for and hardly ever taught. It was mostly just her personal opinion. Her exams weren't on actual topics in the chapter and were impossible to study for. She started the class saying the average grade was a 73 in her classes and was surprised I managed a B. Her News Quizzes were impossible to study for also
So I had her for both Media Literacy, and Adv. Writing for the Media. Y'all, she DOES NOT know what she is doing when "teaching" media literacy. Last semester was her very first time teaching it so hopefully she has gotten better. Adv Writing I passed with a B, cool. but more like the writing lab is 60% so MAKE SURE you get an 85 or above in lab.
TAKE NOTES ON chapters and powerpoints. MEMORIZE SYLLABUS n rubric. If you have a question, ask her. Do not wait if you're unsure about ur quality of work. Very caring and thorough with what she wants from you. Only one discussion board a week. With her and this class, you get what you give. Responds quickly, very structured. manageable.
