She is on a totally different planet than her students. I wish that every day she wouldn't come in and play with the lights. quote " I didn't know you had a speaking part in this movie"
She is rather boring but she is very through in her teaching methods. But, she needs to make the class more exciting.
her lectures are boring, and she babies the students. she thinks you are stupid.
Harrasses you during exams, makes you cover your paper with your whole body. makes people move all over the class during exams.
I actually really like her. You've got to have an interest in what she's talking about though. She goes at a slow pace, so it's a little hard to follow if you're not listening. Very informative if you approach her.
I think she's a great teacher. The class is interesting if you're interested in psychology. Her tests are tough but fair. I think she's very helpful and clear in her teaching methods.
I think she's very interesting and easy to follow. She posts the notes on the p drive which is convenient. Her lift and lower method is a little annoying but all in all I think she's a really good prof.
she is nuts and if you can take this course from someone eles you should do so. I think if the psy department could see her in action she would not be teaching at smu. She gives extra marks to slackers and not to an "A" student. she should retir
SHE CAN'T TEACH, SHE SHOULD RETIRE.
Teacher from Dal, mean and unhelpfull. Boring power point, very unorganized. She should be fired, I can teach better than her. I can't believe I paid money for that course. Don't take her.
I think she's a really sweet women. The class is tough but it's university people. If you don't wanna do work then go to community college. There's no essays or anything, just 4 tests and she's very helpful if you ask for help. Plus the notes are on web ct which is always a bonus.
She is a bit strict, does not like people who leave early, but if you go to her classes you can get the bonus questions, and she will be happy with you.I loved her course !
Ignores people who have questions in class, very boring power point and monotone voice. Ends class past the time limit and begins class early. Very unhelpful

Clearly you can tell she is an intellegent women however her material is way too broad. Her main goal seems to want come off with an intimidating persona which is reflected in the vast amount of material that is included in her tests and concentrated down on tests. Take someone else if you can...
Teachers with the 4x25% exam marking scheme. She had moments where she'd get off track or tell the class to refer to the book because she didn't want to teach a topic, but other than that she knows a great deal about Bio Psych and I can't imagine having had a better prof to teach the intro course...
Though course
she offered us a make up telling everyone she felt had been wronged what would be the essay on the exam. she lied! it was something totally different, when i asked about it she yelled at me told me she had never seen me in class before (i sat in the front and she said hi to me almost every class) she then asked me if i got my smarts from kids books
I dont know what all these people are talking about. shes such a great prof. shes very helpful if you go to class and the tests are pretty easy if you read the material. i really reccomend her, it was an easy A.
I think the only way to enjoy this class is to be on her good side, attend most lectures, ask questions and smile at her... she knows what she is talking about but can be rude to students at the most random times, sometimes becomes lazy and avoids the question asked, but AS ANY PSYCH class, a total breeze if material is studied and classes attended
She's a great prof. Tough but fair. Her bonus questionds are a give away if you go to class. If you don't, then what are you complaing about? You don't deserve a good grade anyway.
I love her! I want to take her out for a movie or pizza!
very funny, but dry, nice wardrobe, intelligent woman, extremely competent, yes she makes fun, but its harmless you babies
Very funny, and very helpful when answering questions by students. The material is pretty dry though. I wish she'd tell people to STFU during her lectures though.
she has noe people skills and i'm pretty sure shes on some sort of weird drug the whole time . . her exams are stupidly hard and waaaaay too detailed. terrible professor. must have been in a bad accident.
The class and lectures are pretty good. She uses good examples to explain the material. Her tests are extremely easy! 75 MC and a 5 pt bonus question with like 7 options, and we don't have to write an exam.
She has an eccentric personality that makes taking her class really interresting. Has a dry sense of humour but don't get your underwear in a knot over it - she's just being friendly.
talks textbook, not a first year course as described in the academic calender
Her class is very boring and her drive can get to you at times. The class itself is kinda hard and the exams contain alot of material both from text and lecture. A good grade seems hard to come by. At times u feel in junior high tho the way she will call ppl out for the smallest things.
not a great proff, very boring. she is very rude at times and acts all mighty like a big know it all, making the class feel stupid at times, tests are rediculous 80 multiple choice and an essay to do in only a hour and 15 mins. half of the questions are so technical that it is impossible to remember all the information, all i can say is avoid her.
She is a nightmare! Speaks in monotone, rude, thinks she is the powerful almighty. Found it hard to stay awake! I remember one exam she had pictures in the multiple choice (and had used white out to cover the answers) you could still see right through to the answers! If she hears anyone talking she asks them what their name is..likes to embarass p
Interesting to listen to in class. Maintains attention. Take notes.
She is a wonderful proff!! She gets after people for not turning off their cell phones....Big Deal, get over it. Her tests are fair. She exempts questions that the majority gets wrong, and has a bonus question on every test which is usually out of 5 that goes directly to your mark. I definetly reccommend her.
I loved this class! If you actually went to class, and stayed awake(apparently this is difficult for some) you should do great! Marking scheme was awesome, and tests were all very fair. Don't expect to not attend class, or sit there with your iPod on and do well in the course. I think she's a great prof and she definately knows her stuff.
One of the worst proffs ive ever had, rude, know it all attitude, boring, exams are too much for such a short class to do a proper job, all these people giving her great ratings are those who sucked up to her being teachers pets. Don't take her unless its manditory that you have to.
She is a challenge! From day one she challenges the class to do their very best. She warns people on the first day of class that this will be the hardest intro course they will take and she means it. If you thrive on a challenge like me you'll do well. Her tests are difficult but once you take the first you'll know what to expect. She was awesome.
She is such an awesome prof. Probably my favorite so far actually. She is clear, helpful and friendly. She presents a challenge in her class. Good slideshows, easy tests if you study, and she marks fairly. Get the study guide and use it, it will help! Don't be scared by her random humor , it can come off rude but that's not her intention.
I found that Dr. Ozier was knowledgeable, and her work experience is impressive. She answered questions well, but I found that she wasn't helpful with medical issues. Some lectures are online, and some aren't. I have no idea why everyone's compaining about the tests. Read the summaries of assigned tect, and study the assigned tables/figres.
This prof is cracked. I did good in the class.. but did not enjoy it at all. It was so boring.. and seemed to go on forever. She acts really weird sometimes.. like she is bipolar. And every class she would mess up turning the projector on. She would press the button about 3 or 4 times without waiting to see if the screen would turn on after 1 press
alot of people are afraid of this proff becuase in her first class she sets some rules. but once the class starts following the rules her class becomes alot of fun with open discussion and Its this simple if you go to class and do the work you will get a really good grade in her class.
Extremely boring, tests were way too hard for a 1000 level psyc class, shes a little crazy, and she put a midterm on the day after st patricks day i mean give me a break.. i still got a B in the course but i did go to class every day which im pretty sure got me some bonus points of some sort
Honestly, everyone I noticed getting**** from her were jerks to begin with, interupting the lectures and talking. If it takes embarrassing people then so be it. She is crystal clear with explanations. She's so intelligent, awesome prof and fun! Don't take this course if you don't like to study? Got an A, it isn't as hard to get as people say!
terrible prof... picks people apart for no reason, the tests are hard given the amount of time (1h15m) with 80 multiple choice and an essay question. we talked way more about the brain then how drugs actaully effect it, not an intresting or practical course.
she's tough but she's good. pay attention in class, read the text book. her lectures are entertaining for sure. her slides are awful, so you really need to go to class, don't depend on webct.
Dr. O is very good at what she does but she is not very helpful. She sees herself as elevated above her students. she is demeaning and makes it hard for you to ask questions.I wont take a course taught by her again. You NEED the text ASAP because there are some things you must teach yourself
she knew alot about the subject but had no idea how to convey it to the class. she often mumbled on, and misrepresented information (e.g. she once told the entire class that retinal transplants were impossible and had never been performed despite the classes insistence to the contrary. She spoke down to every students and did not teach the material
Dr. O, as she will tell you she is often called by her students, is a pretty decent teacher in and of herself. I am currently taking my 4th class with her and the 1st 3 have been easy enough. Just go to class and read the book (like you should do for every class anyways) and you'll get a good grade.
Absolutely useless! Where does SMU get these profs from. Clearly scraping the bottom of the barrel. She cannot teach and gets upset when she is caught in a mistake. Stay home, read the book, and you will do fine. It has nothing to do with her. It is time to retire!!
Great prof! Dr O was hilarious. She knows her stuff and does a good job teaching it. You have to go to her classes. She loves it when students come to class and often gives special treatment to those who show up the day after a test. Her tests weren't easy but they weren't to hard. Fair marker and gives bonuses. Great prof!
I thought she was a great teacher. Used humor to get through boring parts. She does go quickly through the powerpoints so it can be hard to write them down, but she always posts them.
great prof. always made sure students were clear on topics before going ahead. tests were simple, just study the book and go to class and pay attention. also made class fun with jokes.
Awesome prof, easy tests, non-cumulative. No mid-term or final, just 4 tests, all MC. Also, makes some pretty good jokes.
No homework, quizzes or attendance marks. Only grades you recieve are from four exams, so if you go to class and read you'll excel! I found the exams very easy :) she is a humorous prof. I found her pace kind of slow and she repeats things a lot but otherwise great prof and enjoyed the course!
Intro to Psychology
awful professor. she's often confused, asks the class "do you understand?" and "raise your hand if you understand" every 2-5 minutes. the midterms are brutal (95 multiple choice and an essay) and nothing from the book or class is on it. never taking her again. do not recommend, at all.
She's a tough grader and expects your to be on the ball. If you don't have prior knowledge of biology or psychology her classes are very difficult. Lectures aren't very clear and involve taking a lot of notes. Her tests are extremely long and the classes are fast paced. I wouldn't take her again but she's not the worst teacher out there.
Dr. Ozier is a sweet lady, and does well in bringing humour to her lectures. She is delightfully sassy with students who ask irrelevant questions in trying to show off. However, her exams (which consist of up to 100 MC questions and a three paged essay) are ENTIRELY based off of the textbook. Avoid if you're not prepared for hours of readings.
One of the worst I've had in 4 years. Lectures long, if you get out early she tacks it on next time. You change a facial expression she calls you out in front of class as not following/confused/"stunned". Electronics not permitted. Not enthusiastic. Sometimes makes funny jokes. Isn't clear on what material will be on tests. Book MANDATORY.
Marcia Ozier made me feel INCREDIBLY uncomfortable in her class. As someone who is slowly overcoming a battle with Generalized Anxiety Disorder, I consider it a huge accomplishment to even be attending classes. When asked to introduce myself to the rest of the class, I politely declined, and was promptly stared down by the the professor...
Powerpoints are long and confusing, she jumps around on them so you don't know what to actually study. Her class consisted of 4 tests with no chance of bonus points. I am very disappointed in this class because the material was interesting but she did not do a good job of teaching it, had to teach myself. I will never take a class with her again.
Has no idea what "Bonus" means, says the tests have a bonus essay. In reality the essay is mandatory and has a length requirement or she will not accept your test. Powerpoints look like they were made by a 6th grader Don't even bother trying to sit where you want, back row is off limits. Better get comfortable with your neighbors.
With Ozier, it seems most students either love her or hate her - I'm one of those who loved her! On the surface she seems a bit intimidating and strict but she is actually really nice and congratulates you when you do well. She even adds an extra percentage onto your grade if you show up on the lecture after a test! I would take her class again.
Dr.O was my professor for social behaviour in my first semester and i absolutely could not stand her. she has no emotion, and her humour is dry. All of her powerpoints are pretty useless, and do not act as a good study aid. She does not allow technology, so it creates a difficult studying environment and makes it nearly impossible to take notes.
Not necessarily an easy course but she's a fair graded and very clear on what will be on her tests
Frendily
Terrible public speaker will bore you throughout the lectures and then test you on things she never taught. She will post contradicting information and she seems like she has forgotten most of the basics of psychology at this point.
Worst professor I have ever encountered. Was initially so excited to take the Abnormal Child Psyc course, but I had to teach myself through the textbook. She teaches NOTHING from the textbook- you teach yourself. Dry lectures, extremely unorganized, should not be teaching.
You will likely be graded between the average of 4 tests. It is fair, but the tests vary. About 85-100 multiple choice and 1 essay question (usually 2-3 page, single space on an option of various topics taught in class). She is an OK prof, and the time goes by quickly. However, you NEED to read the book as she often goes on tangents or lacks info!
I had Dr. O for Intro to Pysch. in my first semester of university. I loved her class, did very well on all four tests she gave because she makes it pretty easy to know what to study. She want's her students to understand and do well. She always asks "does everyone understand what I just explained?" One of my favourite professors!
I had Dr O for a first year psych course. She is funny sometimes but her lectures are typically dull and will put you to sleep. She feels no shame embarrassing students individually. Her notes are disorganized and you will be unable to study off of her powerpoints. 90% of your learning will come from the textbook so it is essential that you read.
What can I say about Dr O? You hate her and you love her. Her lectures were actually quite entertaining to me, but that's probably because I love dry humor and sarcasm. Don't take her class if you don't intend to READ. I had to learn most things on my own as her powerpoints are USELESS and confusing. She isn't the worst but she isn't the best.
Took this course as an elective, her lectures suck. Very boring, goes off on tangents. you NEED to read the book. Her tests consist MOSTLY of book material but her essay question is usually based off of in class examples. Her tests are HARD she squeezes in ALL of the information, usually 100+ questions.
Worst profesor that I have had until now. Her classes are boring, she asks about 15 times per class if you understood what she just said, her power points are not helpful for studying, you NEED to read the book by your own. The quizzes are VERY LONG (about 100 questions plus an essay). The good thing is that the content isn't that hard to learn.
SO, basically the absolute worst professor at SMU. should not be teaching anymore. She will tell you so many things during class over and over again i.e. "I will drop your lowest test grade if it's the first test" and then she won't and she will make excuses... It's like she refuses to give out A+'s even if you CLEARLY deserve it. TESTS ARE AWFUL
Dr. O is a super lovely prof and her humour just killed me. A lot of students didn't seem to catch onto her jokes, but I found her hilarious! That being said, the lectures were hard to follow. If you don't take your own notes and read the book you won't do well in the course. Also, her wording for some questions can be a little bizarre.
Worst prof I've had. Her syllabus was in comic sans and her ppts were formatted as if she used the spacebar instead of tab. She picked out students of colour and said "what about where ur from" and when they said they were canadian she goes "well ur *clearly* not canadian". Also said that "natives arent part of the general population". Never again.
She is the worst Prof I have ever had. I'm about to have my third test with her and she has only covered 1 of the 3 chapters on the exam, and to top it off the tests are comprised of 100 MC questions and a 2 page essay (which now I have to teach myself). I do not recommend this professor and would avoid if possible.
horrible prof.... don't recommend taking any classes with her, you will regret it.
Doesnt use anything outside of textbook so going to class isn't necessary unless you want the prof to call you out all the time for random stuff. And shes awful with names and her "optional" bonus essays are mandatory.....
Professor Ozier is very clear at the start of the term that 50% of the tests will be from the text, and the other half will be from the lectures. If you ignore the slides and just take notes of what she says in class and memorise that, you will guaranteed get an A+. Her opportunities for bonus essays allow you to rise almost an entire grade.
You teach yourself. Very intelligent professor, however, it was probably one of the worst classes I have taken at SMU in regards to the structure of the course, the testing and the fact that its fourth year class that you dont have to go to in order to learn more.
Dr. O has no problem putting students on the spot in front of the whole class. This isn't great for those of us with social anxiety. I would never take another class with her because of this and unfair testing. You could study the book and slides as much as you want, but it's still nearly impossible to get 100 on the multiple choice.
Dr. O is my idol (my spirit animal, if you will). Her since of humour had me engaged throughout her lectures & struggling to breathe at times. She can a bit intimidating, but as long as youre a respectful student you have nothing to worry about. Shes very clear about what will be on the tests. Dr. O demands respect, but will always reciprocate it
Great professor and reminds me of my grandmother. I love Dr. O and have taken two classes with her. She's HILARIOUS and insists on learning everyone's names. She loves to try and get the class talking and genuinely cares how her students are doing.
although she can be funny, she is super slow and painful to listen to. she spends to much time on things that have nothing to do with what is on the test and spends no time on the things that need to be cleared up. her bonus essays at the end of exams can be helpful to boost ur grade, but sometimes the topics have nothing to do with the information
I have a broken brain from taking this class!
Excellent example of a prof. She's brilliant but kind of dry, that being said, you will learn a lot about the subject. This class is just 4 exams weighted equally so you need to read the book and go to class. Do the work, you'll do fine. She can be kind of intense, but she honestly wants everyone to succeed. Don't use your phone in class though
She cares about those who want to learn, and wants everyone to do well.
If you have the choice, dont take her classes. The classes were painfully slow to listen to, and I got nothing from them. The tests are INSANE! There are about 100 MC PLUS an essay per test, which I found very difficult to complete in 1h 15min!
seems like a great person & is willing to do a lot for you as a person, but as a professor i would not recommend taking her class unless its a last resort. She is slow, repeats unnecessary points, her power point slides are unprofessional, she doesn't make me interested in child development. I would love this class if it was taught by someone else
I found Dr. O to be an awesome person who is absolutely hilarious. Unfortunately I found her teaching very dry and boring. She was also often harsh to students, but they often deserved it for interrupting her. We only had a few pretty easytests for the class, so if you study you'll do fine.
Starting off on a good note, she seriously knows her stuff. But she kind of assumes you do too - by this I mean she talks really fast, so fast I couldn't write fast enough. The tests are 100 mc questions, diagram heavy and worded weirdly. 4 tests makes up grade. She is a sweetheart and very understanding if you need help/need to do test at difftime
This woman is the least helpful prof I've ever heard. She is snarky and rude and tries to hide that behind dry humou. She is unwilling to adapt a online course setting due to COVID. Her presentations follow very poor structure and the powerpoints themselves are very disorganized and sloppy. Her whole class is based on four exams. Overall awful!
You might as well just buy a textbook. She makes the material so dry and will make zero accommodations for you. Took up all my time to study for her "quizzes" composed of 100 MC and a 1000 word essay.
Worst Prof I've ever had to deal with. Not only are the tests and powerpoints done terribly. She is also extremely rude when communicating with students. If I could rate her in the negatives I would.
I never listened to her online lectures (monotone voice) - I just printed the slides and studied. Dr. O is the definition of tough love - can be VERY harsh, but does want the best for you. Textbook is mandatory. There are 4 tests and no final exam. The course was really easy, especially if you're a PSYC student who focuses on group B classes.
Avoid if possible. Course consists of poorly conceived powerpoint slides read verbatim in a monotonous drawl. Quizzes are long, and no feedback is given aside from a questionable published grade. Not particularly difficult material, but painful to get through, especially knowing you've just paid $800+.
The classes can be quite monotonous and it can be hard to keep up with it. Can be hard to get in contact with Dr. Ozier sometimes. If you thrive teaching yourself the class material, this class is for you.
