She can seem a bit intimidating at first, but she's actually a very helpful professor that cares about what you think of her & the class. She wants you to walk out of there knowing enough about IR. There are are group discussions, keep up with the readings and weekly question home works. There's two quizzes and a final and the textbook is required.
Intimidating at first but she really looks out for her students. Keep up with the reading, do the homework ON TIME, and take advantage of her study guide. There's no reason you should get less than a B. I never read but got an B+ because I used the study guide before the tests.
She is intimidating at first but she's VERY knowledgeable in international relations and she pushes you to think. Very great class
I absolutely love this lady, the only reason she's not easy is because she actually teaches. But on the real, she's great!
This is my favorite teacher ever! She is awesome and really cares about her students. You learn so much in this class but in a fun way. Definitely take her for any class
Professor Washington is an excellent professor in the IR department. Although this is an Intro level course with many non majors enrolled, she will captivate everyone's interest in the subject. A rather easy class, a simple response question must be completed about every other week which must consist of about 3 paragraphs.
Very knowledgeable!! She cares about her students, you will learn something for sure!! She could be tough at times and gives plenty of work!!
Good professor. She bases her class on group work. No test but there's many assignments.
This professor is ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!! She teaches well, cares about the subject and the class. It's not an easy A, you have to work for your grade, but it's not difficult either. She's extremely helpful and answers all your questions. GREAT CLASS!
This class is kind of fun, and the teacher knows a lot and will challenge you. BUT, this class is not easy, there's so much work and she grades very tough. Attendance and participation is a big part of your grade though, so if you try you will pass.
By far one of the best professors at FIU. Her knowledge on the subject is unbelievable. She WILL challenge you, however, that is to be expected in college(I know...what a concept.) Not an easy A like most of the INR classes at FIU, but you will do well if you study. Gives excellent reviews before exam/quizes. LISTEN during the lectures.
in a summer night class she cut it short one class. Did not show for another. Her critical thinking concept of teaching questions in a intro class in summer 9 meetings class may work for an unemployed individual. Said there would be a review which did not happen. chapters on you. likes to debate. Is condesending in vernacular.
my new favorite professor! NOT an easy intro class by any means, at least not during the summer, but you WILL learn
She is an amezing teacher, who cares and inspires all her students, it is not an easy class but def you will learn something
Tough class and professor. She will make you work and read. The lazy ones will get weeded out. Her classes are very theoretically and philosophically based so unelss you have some background on the subject matter do not take her because you will be lost. Be forewarned those taking her to fulfull an INR requirement.
If you're an INR major, you have to take this professor. If you're not an INR major, you're going to have a bad time.
Very energetic in her lectures, very knowledgeable in the field, definitely recommended for IR majors. If you want an easy grade, select another professor. This is not the class for you.
Dr. Washington was tough-- I thought I would enjoy her class, I was wrong. Her TA grades the papers and it was a hell of a lot of work for one class. Class is mandatory. Unfortunately I have to take another class with her next semester.
Hard professor. If you work or have a life I don't recommend her. If you are an INR major take her... if not, pick someone else.
This is one of the toughest professor I've had - If you're not planning on giving your 100% dont take her. Very smart and interactive professor
I thought she was tough at first but she's nearly impossible. You have to go to class. If you ask a question, she makes you address the entire class and embarasses you and doesn't answer the question, but expects you to answer it. She has this tough exterior but doesn't seem very helpful outside of class. I read. Not easy.
She is very enthusiastic about the subject. But I suggest if you're not an IR major, then don't take this class. She only gives 8 quizzes and a midterm and final. None of the lowest quiz grades are dropped, and the quizzes based on the readings are pretty hard.
Washington is tough but I like her a lot! She pushes you. The only way you will do well in the course is if you PUT THE TIME IN. if not, forget it. Conflict security with her was the toughest class I've had with her. A lot of people are intimidated by her, but she's cool. Try hard and make sure you read and study for tests.
This class is not challenging, but unnecessarily difficult. The quiz questions are arbitrary and she has serious speaking/writing issues so good luck deciphering the slides and trying to figure out what she's trying to say in lectures. She has a good heart but she needs to take ENC1101 and practice speaking in front of a mirror.
No nonsense. Super tough, but you can get through it with a good grade. Be prepared to work hard. No all nighters and cramming the morning something is due. She is VERY picky about her APA format! You should have someone proofread your papers for you. She likes impromptu debates so always do the readings and be ready. I'll take her again.
Washington is a very informative, energetic professor that really cares about the comprehension of her students. Reading and attendance are required but I would say that it's all worth it in the end.
Dr. Washington is not an easy A, but if you're willing to put in the time and effort, you'll do well. She's very demanding, but cares for her students and is very knowledgeable.
This class is hard, but if you pay attention you may actually learn something useful.
Strict but fun professor, if you are looking for an easy grade Do not take her. However if you want to learn and be challenged take this her as a professor. But be warned a lot of work and critical thinking.
Professor Washington is great. She is bubbly and friendly and also very knowledgeable on the content. You'll do well if you try. The tests are not easy so take good notes and study the vocab in the syllabus.
I like a good challenge but this INTRO class is IMPOSSIBLE. There is no guidance as to what to study and the homework started off one chapter a week but turned into 3 chapters a week (not realistic). There is too much content and although I love the topic and major in INR, I am contemplating changing my major after this class.
I took her for the summer INR 2001 class. She is very difficult, makes you memorize maps, engage in topics from the book and relate them to current topics and her tests are tricky. I do not recommend her if you work full time or have a life. She also doesn't let you record her and she doesn't like repeating herself.
summer A, i droppedthis class with Dinar in the spring so I was not sure of taking it. She was very helpful and clear.2 exams, 4 current event, a debate and attendance is MANDATORY and thats what made my grade. If it wasnt for the attendance i wouldve gotten a lower grade. Exams mostly based on lectures, no textbk, readings on blackboard. Got a B-
Dr.Washington is fabulous. She's really nice if you understand her sense of humor. And even with people who aren't very receptive she makes an effort to accommodate people. She's hard but if you engage her in conversation you'll learn practically all there is to the course and have fun doing it. I STRONGLY suggest visiting her office hours.
This class is impossible. 3 chapters to read every week, and theyre not consistent.. she jumps around the topics. Her powerpoints and what she talks about are very difficult to understand. Often the powerpoints differ from the readings. Her midterm questions are badly worded, and there is no guidance as to what to study for it. Wouldnt take her.
Dr. Washington is a great professor. Though her lectures can be confusing sometimes, if you go during her office hours she will def help you! If you go out of your way to meet with her and talk to her, she's kind and will invest in you! Great professor and person. Exams are challenging but not impossible. Quizzes are easy. MAKE SURE YOU READ!!
There are 4 map and 4 regular quizzes, 2 Exams and 1 Final. THIS IS NOT AN EASY CLASS! She knows what she is talking about but is horrible at explaining it. You HAVE to read the book and she assigns about 50 pg. each day! I wouldn't recommend the class, except if you REALLY have to take it.
She is a GREAT professor and knows what shes talking about. If your lazy and dont know anything about the world or watch the news dont take this class. If you are aware of world events and interested in the world I highly recommend this class to you. She will make you think. Get ready to learn
she is difficult, don't take her! go to another campus. The average of our exams has been between Ds and Cs. NO reviews are given out. RUN, RUN!!!
In plain terms that everyone can understand... this lady is hard. She doesn't know how to effectively teach such interesting topics. exams questions come from the book, and not the lectures, Going to class is a waste of time. Her TAs do the exam which are confusing. you most read line by line to do well on her exams. take someone else.
I read the comments of the previous students, and yes it is a diff. class because she doesn't guide you on what to focus for the exams. I do like the visual aids, they're tremendous. 8 quiz/2 exams based on 7 chpt., TOO much to accumulate when you take other 3 classes on top of it. The TAs are the ones that come up w the exams. (?!)
Very Knowledgeable on IR theory. She is very difficult. It is great that she encourages participation but she will put on you BLAST and is VERY PARTICULAR on everything you turn in and APA format.. The readings are some what interesting but extremely difficult to understand.
Not an easy teacher at all. Her lectures are super confusing. She doesnt explain what to study for the test so you're on your own. The test are always worded tricky. She gives 4 pop quizes and 4 scheduled quizes and 2 tests and a final. She gives no opportunity for extra credit. DO NOT TAKE HER!
This class is very easy if you just read the chapters she tells you to read. The exams are not hard at all, although she doesn't give you a study guide or anything. If you read the book you will get an A in the class.
Like others are saying, yes she is difficult, but only because she wants the students to learn. Lectures are always very interesting thanks to her awesome personality. Tests were quite difficult though. Every Friday, there was a quiz on the reading that was simple enough. The textbook is REQUIRED for this class. Overall, not impossible and cool.
Dr.Washington is a great teacher but her class is not easy. You have to read and follow the syllabus. My suggestion is also take notes while you're reading the text that's how I got an A.If you read and take notes there is no reason why you should fail her class. Overall, the class was extremely interesting but not an easy A.
BRILLIANT professor. She is a model example of what a university level class should be like. She will not coddle you and hold your hand. You EARN your grade. Pay attention, do your work and there is no reason you shouldnt earn an A. Her exams test the depths of your knowledge on the subj. if you are looking for an "easy" A this isnt your prof.
Dr. Washington is by far one of my favorite INR professors. She is an excellent professor who is very knowledge. It's impossible to walk out of her class without learning something. She is very supportive, easy to talk to and has a great passion for INR. The class is hard but it's worth it. You will definitely feel challenged in a good way! :)
One of the worst I've ever had. I'll rather relive watching my dog die than take her again. She is very unclear about what she wants, she does not grade fairly and worst of all, she told disclosed my grades with another student. I hope to god no one will ever take her. Avoid her at all costs. She is awful.
Made the class really fun and easy. If you go to class, take half decent notes, and at least skim over the book, you'll pass.
She is very knowledgable but does not offer study guides for exams and her exam questions are never direct even in true of false form.
Marcie is a phenomenal professor but if you don't understand International Relations and it doesn't interest you.. don't take this class because you will fail. you have to be willing to read and apply the concepts. Her tests can be tricky. 3 exams and a final, 8 pop quizzes, 4 of which are map quizzes.
Do not take her if you're not interested in politics. I only survived because of my major. Her tests are extremely hard! She's a nice person, but way too strict on grading.
It's not an easy course but if you study and stay on top of the work you'll be fine! She's really accessible too.
All I can say is run! Don't let your gpa drop because of her lack of caring.
She is arrogant, rude and does not know how to teach. Exams are not like the study guide. Run for your life before she drops your gpa down.
I am an IR major and a straight A student. She is energetic and seems to know her material but, she does not teach, lectures are repetitive and unclear and her exams are HARDDD, I read the book and have study groups and still struggle. No guidance whatsoever as to how to prepare for her test. No use talking to her, she is always right. Don't take!
She is arrogant, does not help you, stresses on attendance and punctuality yet does not apply it to herself. She is unclear, her teaching structure is a mess. She'll say you don't have to read the readings for the week prior to the week starting (meaning the weekend before), but when she catches you didn't read that weekend before she gets angry.
Well how should I put this... If you want to learn the subject take the the class, however, if you want to pass avoid it. She is extremely strict on grading and expects the best. The issue arises with the lack of feedback she provides. She tells you you're wrong but not why. The final test is near impossible. And the attendance is large so be ready
She is an amazing professor who expects a lot from her students. INR 4603 is an exit course and should be as difficult as it is. She is very knowledgeable and will is always ready to help and answer any questions you may have regarding any topic of IR. Would definitely take her again.
She's probably the toughest prof. @ FIU...the tests include material not covered in class, you just have to know! Reading the book cover to cover, study groups, and obsessive note taking are mandatory if you want to pass. The quizzes with the TA's are cake though. You really earn your B or A with her.
Horrible professor. Does not explain and can be very rude. She expects the cream of the crop from her students. RUN AWAY!
Terrible, exam and test do not match. She wasted two weeks on the same topic yet there was probably one question on the exam. The TA make and grad most exams and they are difficult. Read book cover to cover and do in class group writing where you will waste your time instead of preparing for the exam. SHe is smart and knowledgable but difficult.
This class is TOUGH. Study the class notes, the TA notes, AND the textbook notes. STUDY EVERYTHING. Take it if it's for your major, but if not - AVOID. I have never worked so hard for a C in my life. But I did learn a lot about international relations and world politics. Just make sure you have the right study habits before entering this class.
I had the pleasure of taking this class fall 2013. If you're an INR major no other professor is going to challenge you more in developing your critical thinking skills applied to IR. Show interest and engage yourself and she will help you. Keep in mind that she wants you to answer your own questions with your own reasoning. Always "DIG DEEPER"
Best professor at FIU! She will challenge you and take you out of your comfort zone, but she gives excellent feedback and you improve overall. She is extremely clear with her assignments; you just need to follow her guidelines. If you are not afraid to improve, take her!
Dr. Washington is the best professor I have ever had! Not only is she an extremely nice person, she is an amazing instructor. She challenges you to dig deeper and always engages every student in her class lectures. Very interesting subject matter, and method of teaching. If you really want to get the most out of your education process take her!
The truth is that Dr. Washington's class could be either a great experience or your biggest nightmare, it depends on whether she likes you or not. She is hard to reach through e-mail, and can be very passive aggressive. VERY ANNOYING CLASS. WILL NOT take again. Ruined my GPA by trying to "challenge myself" with someone who didn't care to help...
STOP. TURN AROUND. NO. I was told by my classmates to avoid Dr. Washington at all costs, but I felt I should challenge myself. I have a 3.5 GPA and this class made me feel like an absolute fool. 5 pg papers due every week, two 8+ pg papers, and a 15 minute video/reports on an IR issue. AVOID THIS WOMAN LIKE THE PLAGUE. Save yourself the stress.
One of the best professors I've had at FIU. Her class challenges you to be a better professional in your field. She doesn't give you busy work. All her assignments are meant to help you succeed. Although some people say its a lot, this is college .. you're paying to get your degree.. expect work to be done. Take her! she's great and very helpful!
Really great professor! You will read a lot in this class, but the material is really useful. You will also write a lot in this class, but it really does prepare you for writing legit papers. Participation is huge, reference the readings along with recent and relevant news stories and you're golden. She's tough but you will be better for it!
Really amazing professor. Big paper at the end of the semester and weekly responses to the readings (3 or 4 readings per week). You'll earn your grade in this class but you will learn a lot in the process. be active in class and read the weekly readings and you will be fine. Definitely will take her again. No textbook.
Expects a lot b/c she gives a lot. This professor is the epitome of the IR field. She knows what she's talking about & before you open your mouth in her class you better fact check all your info. Benefits of this class are amazing if you're interested in delving into the IR field. She covers a lot of bases but it makes you a better IR scholar.
Lots of reading with no explanation. Difficult coursework. I put in extreme amounts of effort and received a B+. You have to suck up to her to pass.
Took Dr. Washington over the summer for INR4603, it was a quick semester but we learned so much. Had a great experience, and walked out of the class feeling like I was smarter than when I walked in. If I could take her for every INR class I would. A true scholar and someone you can look to as a mentor.
I hope you like writing and reading if you're taking this professor. Every two weeks 3-page papers are due, as well as an 18-page analytical paper. All you do is read articles that are 35 pages long and write papers. Will make you a great writer though, have fun.
AVOID THIS CLASS. This professor is a tough grader. She's one of those teachers that thinks she's our only class and gives you a huge load of work to do on a weekly basis. 3-4 page papers every single week and 18 page paper at the end of the semester. Save your GPA and don't take this class, very tough grader.
She should be the standard of all the professors in the SIPA track at FIU 10/10
This class is difficult. You must read, participate and write a lot. Do not give your opinion in class, she is all about facts and data. If you do not need to take her, avoid her. However if you want to challenge yourself take hone of her courses. She is nice and willing to help you if you ask.
This class consists of a project, 2 essays, and 6 papers. She can be a tough grader and will make you work for every point on your essays and papers. This class was interesting and there are weekly readings that are talked about so READ!!!!! She will call you if she feels like it. Go to her office hours if you have any questions about anything.
For all IR or Poly Sci students taking DR Washington is a MUST. She will challenge you and make you a better student for it. Reading is a must. This class is not that hard if you read and participate.
Very engaging & her lectures are great. Assigns weekly readings (3 or 4 lengthy excerpts) & discusses them at the start of every class. Participation/attendance are key (30/75 points)! I'm not an IR major but I was super into the class. 5 critical responses, a video project on a topic of your choice. You really earn your grade. Take it, learn a lot
Dr. Washington demonstrates the upbeat and positive attitude that you must have as well in order to do well in the course. I failed at achieving the same attitude and took to blaming her for a bit. I got a 3.08-B-. I was playing with fire and almost got a C. Smile! and you will have no problem with the class.
she is a great professor who cares about her students. be ready to read and write and present. she gives at least one 15 page paper and several small ones. no tests.
The bulk of your grade comes from essays, all 9 of them. And it wouldn't be so bad if her grading scale wasn't nearly impossible to pass. 4 of the essays are worth 5 points, so if you miss the mark on 1 thing, you fail. I usually don't write reviews, but anyone considering her, reconsider. I used to get A-B's on my essays, but w/her, only D's.
She's a neeeeeeeeeerd. She's a very passionate professor, so if you're serious about pursuing IR, her courses are probably for you. For everyone else DON'T TAKE HER CLASSES. She's very strict and toes the line of unreasonable. She doesn't make you buy the book so that's cool, but honestly save yourself the trouble and get your credit elsewhere.
You'll initially struggle with her if you're not familiar with the level of intensity, but you come out of her class with so much more knowledge and skills than you could have imagined. She prepares you so much for the IR field and helps you see things from a different perspective. Even though her class demands a lot, it pays off in the long-run.
Prof Washington is great, fun and funny at times. Don't get it twisted, YOU WILL WORK FOR YOUR GRADE. She is well informed and very very intelligent women. like I said before, be ready to do lots of work, and reading. I would most def recommend anyone to take her, but just understand what your getting yourself into
Don't understand why people are complaining. Her class is easy. Consists of 1 weekly response paper (8 total), Participation, Attendance, and A presentation. Class gets boring sometimes, but she tries to make it as interactive as possible. No required book. Just read the articles she posts online. You really just need to read one a week, not all.
Professor definitely knows what she is talking about and is very intelligent in her field, with that said, she has high expectations and expects grad level work and analyzation. If you like a professor that pushes you to a new and deeper level of thought she is a solid choice. Makes you work hard for your grade but will take a lot away from class.
Prof. Washington is knowledgeable, outgoing, and tough. She definitely makes you work for your grade as you should. All of her lectures are engaging and have meaning behind them. She does require 3-page papers weekly but they are analytical and based on interesting readings. Final was a PPT on a specific population we were interested in. Take her:)
I took this course Spring 2018, The homework was difficult but doable. the grading criteria was iffy she practically wanted you to copy her template word for word. I didn't learn much because i wasn't able to be creative without being docked points. DO NOT TAKE ONLINE... She had no clue how to use Canvas and couldn't validate participation properly
Took INR3061 online. Not a very pleasant professor. A condescending attitude and approach to knowledge and teaching. The whole vibe of learning is off. DO NOT TAKE. I REPEAT DO NOT TAKE
If you want to learn do her class. Lots of work but she is very knowledgeable and she is just great with teaching. very caring and understanding. she is a powerhouse. one of the best in SIPA
I havent met a professor that was so condescending. If you disagreed with the narrative on a topic. you didnt have a different opinion, you were wrong as far as she was concerned. Just avoid taking her at all costs.
Dr. Washington is the best professor that I've had in my career at FIU. Regardless of your major, she will raise your standards and prepare you for the future. The class is at the level that it should be. If you can, try to take her, you will become a better student and person at the end.
Great course (Fall 2017). If you want to learn take her. If you want an easy grade avoid her. Great professor who is well informed.
OMG. Plenty of reading but it's purposeful.... she brings non- western scholars which is great. She challenges your way of thinking but in a good way to understand the IR field. Great professor.
(Summer class) Excellence experience overall. Participation is big for her (30%), so be prepared to read to inform yourself on the subject matter. Her passion is contagious and she does care about her students. For that exact same reason be prepare to be challenged. If you put effort into understanding the subject, you will be fine. A gem.
We had a four page paper due every week. It was based on the lectures, readings, and videos we had to watch. The videos are a bit long therefore you do have to devote some time for it. Overall, I would recommend!
Long essays, TA grades horribly to impress the professor. Too many essays that are 4 pages, one is 8 pages. Its crazy that this is allowed. essay, essays, essays...
Dr. Washington is very smart and passionate about the topic, she cares for her students , BUT that does not mean that you will enjoy the class, it takes forever for her to actually grade your papers, her grading criteria is impossible to pass, she will criticize every single thing you write, she made me feel very insecure.
Incredible professor. Marcie has a very strong command of course material and challenges you to learn more and build your own understanding of the content. Very much a writing, lecture, and discussion-driven course, which was hugely appreciated. Lectures were captivating and highly engaging. Her class took up a lot of my time, but 100% worth it.
I've already taken her twice. Dr Washington is a great professor who really cares for her students. Her classes can be a bit demanding but it's definitely worth it. I feel like I learn so much with her.
Don't let her reading-intensive, writing-intensive teaching methods deter you from the priceless knowledge you will gain in her class. This is not an educator you will want to miss out on.
Horrible, worst class I have ever taken. Takes too much time and if you dont talk, you dont get a good grade. DONT SIGN UP FOR THIS
Never take her!!!! Avoid this Professor, shes funny and charming but the grading is too harsh and the mandatory essays
DONT BASE HER TEACHING OFF THESE GOOD REVIEWS FROM HER favorite students Avoid this Professor at all costs!!!!! Unless u wanna waste ur money
Best professor at FIU by far. It's a fair amount of work but it's worth it. She's easy to reach outside of class and will help if you need it. Don't be afraid to take her!
Best professor ever... avoid if you do not want to learn.
This course prepares you for the real world with the value added assignments. Yes, you will have to work for it.
OMG. This course truly teaches you about the political and economic complexities of migration.
Her course ensure you are actually learning therefore this is not a course you will get an easy A. The professor works with the students and even extend assignments deadlines to support our success.
Do NOT take Dr. Washington online!! Only a few things count towards your grade and she grades super hard. It takes one or two essays to really understand how you should be writing them, but then it is too late to get a good grade. The instructions she left for the assignments don't reflect what she actually expects from them.
Taken Dr. Washington twice already, a truly inspiring individual. Tough on her students in the sense that she prepares you for life after graduation. Be on time, come correct, and participate in her classes. Be prepared to write. Never a textbook, the readings are always posted online.
Makes you work for it? Yes. Will you grow as an individual? Absolutely. Just remember that if you signed up with her that you need to be 100% committed, but you won't regret it.
Dr. Washington is one of the best INR professors at FIU. Take her if you can.
Ok so I'm a Biology Major that had 3 choices to take to fill a requirement and this was one of thoes choices. She is a good professor but if you are not an INR major, DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS! She is very intense and assumes you know what she is talking about and seems very judgmental. If you are a INR major she is good just be participate in class!
Pretty tough grader, gives about eight 4 page papers throughout the semester. And a small extra credit. She wants the papers to be written a very specific and detailed way, and it takes you a while to get a hang of what she actually wants after reading comments and emailing her.
Class consists of a conflict mapping in parts and then a final product which she is vague about instructions so you are expected to read her mind as to what she wants. However, definitely THE best class ive taken at FIU. She makes discussion in class which is the best way to learn. Would take her again if it fit in to my schedule!
Professor Washington is one of the hardest professors at FIU and in all honesty the best one I've yet to take. She is very passionate about what she teaches and definitely will make you learn. Aside from this is if you are someone that wants an easy grade or to sit in the back of the class without saying anything then don't take her, you'll fail.
Professor Washington is amazing! I took her class online and always felt comfortable contacting her if I needed to do so. The instructions for the essays can be a bit unclear at first but once you get the hang of it, the class is interesting and makes you think critically. Take this class if you really care about the topic! It will be a breeze
I took Prof Washington for International Negotiation. She turns the class into a practical, group effort throughout the whole semester. The lectures are great and make you learn about yourself and your negotiating skills. If you're taking this class just to get credit or an A, don't take it.
Probably the toughest Professor in the sense of workload, but damn does she really care about you. She makes you work and think outside the box every step of the way. She really wants you to succeed inside and outside of the class room. I have had her for 3 classes already, hell, I'd let her be my mom for her to organize my life!
Dr. Washington was a great professor. Get ready to write plenty of papers tho. She's tough but you'll end up learning so much from her.
I had Prof Washington for an online course in Spring and I found it fairly easy to get through. There are no tests or quizzes only assignments. All assignments are papers usually 4-5 pages with two assignments being videos. Very noticeable thing are her prompts for papers, theyre almost like an essay and very detailed.
She cares, she listens to you, she is a great mentor. If you are lazy or a mid student do not take this class. But, if you want to grow and develop as a student and professional definitely take her. I loved every second of her class. Lots of critical thinking, has a good balance of work, almost everyting is done in groups (pick your team wisely).
I lost everything and have been a straight A student every semester so be careful, I lost my scholarship. I begged and pleaded with the prof. They responded best of luck come to my office hours.Which would be fine if I didn't work full time trying to support myself and office hours had been scheduled to help the student rather than the prof.
Papers, that's all you're really graded on. If you dont write well dont take this class, the grading criteria is vague, and the TA's grade exceptionally hard. You must work very hard on papers and not procrastinate, even ask for feedback before submitting in order to receive a good grade. She is understanding, and replies quickly.
Dr. Washington is the BEST professor at FIU. I was hesitant to take her because of mixed reviews, however, I can promise you that you will never leave her class the same. Dr. Washington sees potential in each of her students. I walked into her class as a shy person, but have now walked out as a confident woman who is ready to negotiate!
The best professor at FIU. Revived my desire to learn. If you don't care about actually engaging with the material, don't take her. She wants you to think critically and participate in discussions, and that comes with a lot of time. She truly cared about her students doing well beyond the classroom and will give back as much as you give!!
I love love LOVE this professor, I hope to god I can have her again in my time at FIU. She is a bit much at first but she really challenges her students to learn and if you participate in her class and put thought into your assignments she'll love you. Easily my favorite professor at FIU, I would recommend Professor Washington to anyone
I have never been so upset over a professor before. Your grade will come from a FEW papers, which she will not be stating her strict grading criteria. I took her as a senior in college, having a perfect 4.0 GPA, im a great writer, and still got my GPA ruined by this professor. Such an unfair grader, nitpicks all written assignments. Run, no joke.
I dont understand her good reviews, it has to be that she asked students to review her for extra credit. Ive never crashed out bcs of a professor in my 4 years in college until her. i regret signing up for this class. terrible grader, terrible. over 7 students dropped her throughout the semester due to their GPA getting messed up.
I could've done better, but migraine meds made mornings tough. I met with her after something derailed my plans and I felt stuck. She gave the best advice that I now share with others. Her class empowered me to advocate, appreciate immigrants more, and create change. I'm moving to DC because of her. If she ran for office, I'd vote for her.
Dr. Washington is the first educator who I felt saw something in me and helped nourish my desire to learn and better myself. She is incredibly inspirational to me, she demands respect and challenges her students with critical thought. This is my second class with her and if I could take every class with her I would, I truly love this professor.
Her teaching method in my opinion is truly astounding. She'll tell you in a straightforward manner what you need to do and NOT do to succeed in her class. It's a heavy research class, but she makes the process very fun while also trying to get to know her students and even direct them to resources, internships etc. She inspired me in so many ways!
The worst teacher of my life, a complete nightmare her class
She is clear about expectations and very straightforward. She won't hold your hand, but if you follow instructions and think analytically, you'll do well. She can seem blunt to some, but she's just being efficient. She's also easy to reach and very helpful over email and zoom. She is not always consistent with assignments.
