First time teaching, VERY funny, usually repeats himself, cares about his students, not a hard class makes the subject interesting and VERY GOODLOOKING, very young too ;)

He seems like an alright guy, though he does like to go off on (unrelated) tangents. Tests are a little too subjective (e.g. what is the significance' of an event). This is not a class to take in the intercession or summer because of the demanding reading requirements (entire txtbk, U.S. constit, dec of indep, federalist papers, etc).

He is an exceptional professor. He goes over and beyond to make the course an interesting and engaging subject. Cares about his students doing well. Pay attention, take notes and his tests will be easy. He makes you want to learn the material. Easy going and easy to talk to. He makes sure his students understand what he's teaching. Take his class!!

Great Professor-- Pay no mind to the review of those frustrated ones that expect an A when they don't do the job. I took his class in the fall, the prof is always willing to dedicate you time outside of the classroom if needed, for whatever reason. Def. Recommend him. The guy who said he is joke is prob some saddist that have no sense of humor!

Marco is very detailed, Loves Political Science, gets to know his students. Young, Energetic & passionate for his field. Fair grader-as long as you put a bit of effort. Topics are relevant to class. He's Great! :)

Honestly, he's really not that bad. Even though he was ALWAYS late and I couldn't stand his arrogance, he taught very well and was very specific about assignments and grading. He would be a much better professor if he would stop being late and lose his attitude. Otherwise, he's a great and helpful professor.

I personally think that prof is great. He is soo into his world, talks none stop, makes jokes, funny-cute. VERY helpful,u can call him any time and he will make sure to talk to u. Great professor. He talks a lot, is funny and really explains the material in a way that is easy to understand for students. The exams were easy. There were a bunch of assignments/papers, but he never gave them back to us. He cares about his students and that we get something out of this class for ourselves. Great guy!

He is the best!!!Im ESL student and he explains really good. You can call him any time and talk with him before class if you dont understand something.He will always explain in easyest way.Just be active, exams are easy just know basic information from the book and take notes.

Awesome professor, the best public affairs professor you'll get explains clearly, teaches what will be on the test, and doesn't let political opinions get the best of the class. Highly recommend.

He is an exceptional Professor and is the most patient and helpful I have ever had. He will make all the time in the world for you if you ask for it. He really enjoys what he teaches and is so excited about it all. He's funny and smart, one can learn a lot, I know I did and feel a whole lot brighter as a result. Oh..and he is really good looking.

The most helpful professor. He provides his students with reviews until the last hour before the exam. He is excellent in explaining concepts with clarity. If we pay attention to his explanation, then we can learn a lot from him and cover for the exam as well. I would like to highly recommend his class.

You can tell he is very passionate about this field and he makes it easy to understand. He is a fair grader, when and if you ever get your grades. We had 6 quizzes and 3 written assignments, NONE of which we ever got back. There's no way to sense how you are doing in the class, except for the 2-3 tests that he'll give you 3 weeks after taking it.

He knows what he's talking about, he's very passionate, and an amazing public speaker! He is young and QUITE handsome, which helps you stay on your feet :) Jokes aside, he's a really good professor. Only one complaint, doesn't return grades on time and is a bit all over the place when explaining certain subjects.

Professor Desena is clear, a good teacher, and not to mention, absolutely adorable. His class is not hard and his exams are fair. However, he is so overwhelmed by the class size it's crazy. 3 assignments, didn't get a single one back, and didn't get our midterm back the last day of class! He's a great guy, but needs to get his act together.

Professor Desena is a good professor. The class is easy, only 2 tests (midterm and final). The thing is he is the absolute worst with grades. We took the midterm in the 7th week of the semester and didn't receive them back until the 13th week. He teaches right from the book and is an easy A

If you NEED structure and looove blackboard, you can forget about taking him. But just know you'll be missing out on taking an awesome professor who makes public affairs easy and comprehensive. Easy tests, couple of quizzes, and some short assignments. He's also really hot but thats just a bonus.

Best professor at Baruch: Dynamic, funny, friendly, smart, and bright. I would take his class over and over. You do learn with him with and without the book. Yet be sure you will be opening that book, lol; It is easy to read. He is passionate about his topic and will explain to you if you don't understand. Ask questions- he likes that.

Professor Desena is one of those professors who you like as a person but as a professor, he kind of lacks. He's really nice and certainly funny but I feel like he would focus on being funny rather than actually do work. I was very interested in this class so I came out of it wanting to learn more.

This Professor is passionate about his job. Looking back, I took away much more than I expected from this class. I became a better writer, leaving out the "fluff" as the Professor puts it. Don't be late, complete assignments, do not use your cell in class, respect your classmates and the Professor and you will have the best semester ever.

Felt like a high school class. Tests require a lot of knowledge and make up most of your grade but are extremely easy, especially bc you should have learned this in high school. He jokes around a lot. You have a few textbook quizzes (he may give some pop quizzes) that don't count for much, a couple of short assignments and 2 tests. Good professor.

Professor DeSena makes everything so relatable. Only tests are a midterm and final, which aren't cumulative and are basically a joke. Lectures go by really fast, he's hilarious and everything is really clear.

Great professor. Tries not to stress students out too much. Work (which you don't get often) is really easy. Tests are REALLY easy, but be sure to study, there's a lot of things you will need to study. It's not very organized but who cares about organization now-a-days?

ESAY A. TESTS ARE EXTREMELY EASY AS LONG AS YOU REVIEW THE NOTES.

Such an easy A! He's hilarious & soooo hot!!! He said himself, you don't need to show up if you don't want to but his lectures pretty much make up everything that's on the test. Barely gives homework, tests are extremely easy as long as you take notes. He makes class very interesting and funny. Class is a breeze. I LOVE HIM! TAKE HIM!

This man is ridiculous, disorganized, and maybe a little crazy. I absolutely loved his class. There was never a dull day and he is one of the most encouraging and helpful professors I've had. His feedback is constructive and he is excellent at working with his students. Ask him how he feels about people driving in the left lane.

Professor Desena is funny and hilarious and very interesting to listen to. The problem is that his lecturing style is confusing BUT you can learn everything by reading the short textbook and then when you listen to lectures, you will be able to connect the dots better. Very open to office hours and listening to your concerns, just beware his humor.

I was unfortunately put in a class with about 200 people. It's a level 1000 course, so expect lots of little kids who are just out of high school. With this, he obviously teaches in a manner that is similar to a high school teacher. Other than that, the material is easy if you paid attention in your high school government class.

The man is bonkers, but I loved it. Exciting, entertaining, but nuanced about what he wants. He expects a certain kind of writing, professional, straight forward. Really read, really inquire and do research, really have meaningful things to say and ask. If there's a single hole in your argument you're not getting an A (on assignments)

He is amazing. You really need to be on your toes when taking notes for his class because if you zone out for like 5 seconds you could be missing a lot. He's funny and uses a lot of real life examples to make things clear. His quizzes are annoying though, because they're all little details from the textbook that literally no one will remember.

Easy A. Finished every midterm within 20 minutes because they are very straight forward if you pay attention. Very lecture heavy so you have to keep up with notes but not hard material. Jokes around way too much. HW quizes are harder than the tests.

I absolutely loved this class. Professor DeSena has a way of making, what seems an uninteresting subject, so intriguing. He makes Citizenship and Public Affairs come to life with his enthusiasm, his love of the subject, his anecdotes to real life and of course his humor! Make sure to go to class, he's a stickler for rules. Overall, amazing!

He's a republican & possibly crazy (what else is new). Why does he have so much energy? Anyways, he's a bit disorganized & has a lot of pet peeves lol but he cares about his students - we went thru material verrry slow bc he wanted to make sure everyone was on the same page. hw is straightforward (just a few papers) & he likes participation.

Marco Desena is an awesome teacher. He tries to make learning about politics fun and brings real life examples. Even in a room of 200 students it is easy to connect with him. As long as you pay attention you will get a good grade. Stop thinking about it and just pick Marco ..... "Polo" hahah XD

Funny guy, great sense of humor but couldn't connect with him so much. If you want him to know your name you'll need to put the effort in. Try not to get picked on ;). Tests are amazingly wonderfully simple.

Makes the class interesting, will answer any questions you have & has a way of making the material very understandable. tests are based on things only taught in the lecture, but the textbook was required for homework. Very funny but will get serious when he needs to. I had him in a huge lecture hall, so he only took attendance 4 times.

He cares so much about his students, only if you show him that your putting in the effort. i took 1250 and it was the most fun and amazing class.. hes like one of the student he makes it so interesting. i laugh every morning. His lectures are really informative. You won't feel bored. Helpful. He wants the assignments on point. No extra writing. Just write what he asks, you will get an easy A. No complaints. Definitely, recommend him.

This professor is a total maniac. Really smart but goes off on the longest tangents & loses his train of thought fairly often. I was trying to figure out who he looked like the whole semester... which I concluded he looks like Eric Bana. Overall great class, would recommend.

This professor is funny. He wants his students to do well. He will allow you to do the assignment over if you follow his instructions. Very flexible and always available for questions. The material is very interesting. This was the second course I took with him. He is GREAT.

Professor Marco's lecture is great! 3 non-cumulative exams, the questions are very straightforward. Pay attention to his lecture and you will get an easy A.

One of the best professors I've ever had.. Not only because he is handsome ) But he is smart, with great sense of humor and ability to keep the auditory of almost 300 people interested and participating. Easy as a Professor.. Overall he is an amazing teacher and I knew nothing about politics before coming to his class. Grades are 90% from 3 tests but he gives review sheets. He is very straightforward with his lecture and what he wants, but he is slightly unorganized so it is a go with the flow class. He makes the class more enjoyable and less boring by joking around.

2 assignments, 3 exams- final wasn't cumulative. scattered and unorganized, but an amazing professor. he knows what he's talking about and does so in a way thats easy to understand. if you have him for a large class you definitely don't have to show up. for 1250, lots of personality and scattered-ness, but a good prof.

for 3108- 4 assignments, takes attendance daily. not the most organized or timely professor, but a really really good one. teaches in an unconventional way, but an easy class where you learn a lot. much more serious in this class compared to 1250, but still makes a lot of jokes and makes the concepts learned eaaaasy. def would take again!

Come to every class. Take notes on what he says and writes. 3 noncumulative tests. Wait til he posts a review sheet before each test. Then type your notes into a study guide based on the review sheet. Skim textbook chapters for missing info from lectures and add them to the study guide. Review your study guide for each test and say hello to your A.

Graded by 4 papers & attendance (20% each). A bit annoying- he makes u write drafts w/o saying what he wants to see if u can get it on ur own (method to his madness) but they don't factor into ur final grade. Attendance is required although some lectures seemed entirely unnecessary. Difficult lecturer but meet w him and hes great 1 on 1. Real smart

The easiest A Ive ever received. This is a general flexible core U.S. class if youre just looking to pass with an A while having more time to focus on your other classes then this is the class for you. 3 extremely easy exams and he drops the lowest one. Unless public affairs is your major this class is perfect

I took two of Professor Desena's classes last spring 2019 semester (public campaigns and advocacy as well as citizenship and public affairs). He's a wonderful professor and I would 100% percent recommend him! He is very knowledgeable on the subject matter, an understanding professor, and also is a good orator and lecturer.

If you pay attention and study then you should get an easy A. He had a lot of pet peeves though and he is not afraid to call you out for it. Dont talk. If your late sit in the back. But he does explain everything that will be tested. Go to his review sessions before tests.

His class was super boring and you'll fall asleep. Three easy exams(each 20%). Attendance worth 10% which he takes randomly throughout the semester. There are two super easy short assignments/HW worth 30%. You take note as he speak but honestly, you can find his note on StuDocu and don't buy the textbook because the material is simple enough.

This class is simple if you show up and take good notes. The tests are multiple choice and review sheets are given.

This is an Easy A! Make friends in class because they'll help you with notes and study guides for exams. Doesn't assign alot of hw, only 2-3 assignments throughout the semester. Tests are multiple choice (Midterm & Final). Study and take good notes, he talks alot during the lecture but I promise you'll pass with a high grade if you do the required

Professor Desena is great. However in order to get an easy A you cannot miss class. Everything he gives in the lectures come in the tests. You will have 3 test (multiple choice). 2 homeworks (very easy). No final because the 3rd test counts as the final. He really cares for his students.

This is an exceptional professor. I had the pleasure of having him spring 2019 for two classes at the same time. this professor cares about his students, has well planned classes, gives cool assignments and is a huge asset to Baruch. The only downside is his class is too great and his students prefer his classes to others (JK not really a downside)

Best PAF professor at Baruch. HE IS VERY CARING AND UNDERSTANDING - ESPECIALLY DURING COVID. Class was very organized. Assigned readings were helpful and small. Independent work was research, zoom class was a time to brainstorm and communicate research problems. 1 on 1 calls to discuss project. A much needed laugh during this mess of life.

I took him for PAF and this class is really easy because its mainly about us history and common sense. The professor does have optional zoom class in which he explains more into detail about the exam and the material. There are quizzes every week but really easyyyy and that's it. TAKE HIMMMMMMMM

definitely kind and funny. has weekly multiple-choice quizzes that are due on Sundays at midnight and take less than 20 mins. He has an optional class session. I only went when I didn't really understand the topic and he cleared it right up. He's great and I'm taking him for PAF 3108 this coming semester.

We only took quizzes and tests so all you have to do is study for those. Lectures were pre-recorded and our lecture time was for answering questions.

He has real world experience in politics, so you're definitely getting good material with him. Very laid back, if you show you care with attendance and participating he will reciprocate the respect. Sometimes his mannerisms can be kinda blunt or condescending, but overall he knows his stuff and is very reasonable with grading if you show an effort.

Hes a must take. Really a great guy and teaches well. If you do what you need to do, you will be fine.

Professor Desena explains all concepts and grading very clearly. He is easily accessible outside of class time if you have any questions. He cares about his students and always tries to make class engaging and entertaining.

Asynchronous class that meets on Wednesdays ONLY IF you have questions from the weekly readings or about his recorded lectures. The grade was only from EASY small weekly quizzes and three exams with 2 attempts (all). He really wants you to pass with flying colors. He's a great guy and a knowledgeable professor. RESPECT him and he will RESPECT you.

I found Professor Desena's class to be easy and straightforward. Classes were only on Wednesdays and on some occasions, extra credit was offered for attendance. The homework is easy (a weekly quiz with 2 attempts each). I recommend taking this course with Marco Desena.

Clear expectations and straightforward assignments! He has you pick a policy you would enact in New York and then takes you through various considerations you would need to research. For me, it was a good way to learn about the process of public policy. If you show up to class and complete all the homework, you should succeed!

Prof. Desena made PAF 1250 truly enjoyable. He's extremely knowledgeable on the topics he discusses and clears up students' confusions very easily. He gives ample amounts of time for his quizzes and exams, and they're all straightforward. As long as you're diligent in watching his lecture videos and reading the texts he provides, you'll get an A.

If you need a PAF credit, take him! Super easygoing and light class. We got simple quizzes every week and occasionally an exam as our only assignments, all super easy. Our class was hybrid but he basically made it asynchronous with optional meetings. Very understanding about the pandemic and treats students with respect.

Marco Desena made public affairs interesting and I enjoyed watching his lectures. The class was very organized because it was a weekly routine that was easy to grasp. However, to do well on his weekly quizzes, taking notes is very important. Take him! You will not regret it.

easy class. was supposed to be hybrid but changed it to asynch, weekly quizzes 10 questions based on short readings, 2 attempts and exam every 4 weeks 30 questions. gives an option to meet wednesdays and his lectures are on youtube. overall class isnt hard just saw him the first day of school

Hybrid but he turned it asych. He tries his best to be reasonable, one of the easiest A's I've gotten. Weekly quizzes, just use the articles he gives and you'll get good grades. Nothing really wrong with the class, you would have to be actually dumb to fail this class.

Im not gonna lie if youre taking this class online it is kind of a joke but in a good way you will see him once on the first day and never again. This is the easiest class Ive ever taken in my life. Weekly 10 question quizzes, if you dont watch his recorded lectures or read the TB you can google the questions. No papers or hw other than that.

W class. Easiest A ever. Read the textbook (if you want) and take the quiz at the end of every week. You get two attempts for both quizzes and each of the 3 tests. DeSena himself seems to be a funny guy and is clear about what is expected of you in the class. If you need a Flexible Core credit I'm begging you take this class.

I took him for PAF 1250 and it was the easiest class ever. The class was originally hybrid, but he made it asynchronous. We would have a quiz each week based on the readings and they were super easy. The test were based on both readings and online lectures that he gave us through blackboard, but I did not watch a single lecture and still got a A.

Class is based on weekly quizzes and completion. If you do the readings each week, you will always pass each one. This class was specifically onine asynchronous but the professor allowed optional classes to ask questions about the weeks quizzes/readings. Not sure if he is better/worse if you have him online or in person.

Love this guy. Easy A. If you don't get an A, you're the problem...

He is always communicating and its very clear on what he is expecting. He makes his class super flexible and if you follow his instructions and do the readings and watch his lectures you should have no problem passing his class. Plenty of time to take the quizzes and test, really liked this class.

Easy A. 10 weekly quizzes and 3 exams, with 2 attempts each. All are based on assigned readings, so you can just Ctrl+F everything. Optional zoom lectures during class time if you want to know more about a topic or have any questions.

Prof. Desena is extremely caring about his students and the class work. Be prepared to do alot of research and make sure you triple check the syllabus as he doesn't like students who don't put in the work BEFORE coming to class. YOU MUST BE WILLING TO PUT IN THE WORK or he will come off as rude.

Read syllabus and do not waste time to ask what is given to you on a plate. 12 quizzes and 3 exams are based on lectures, exactly like it should be. A very useful class in current times!

this is one of the most managable classes in baruch, his syllabus is very clear on what you need to do, 10 weekly quizzes and 3 tests ( non cummulative) , classes were mon and wed but u dont need to go and he posts the lecture slides online

Marco Desena is amazing. His class is graded by a weekly quiz based on pre-recorded lectures (that you could also attend live). He doesn't believe in emails, which is good, since all of the questions you may have are answered in the syllabus. Easy A

Gives 1 quiz every week that are 10 questions long. 3 tests throughout the semester. Fairly easy and straightforward questions that come from his posted lectures and reading. I recommend him if you want to boost your GPA, or simply want an easy course to take.

Very easy class for good reason. If you need that GPA booster, this is it. Professor Desena makes the class to do and if you just read the articles and take a little bit of notes, you will get a A. If you need to take this class for any requirements, this is the one you need.

He makes this class physically impossible to get lower than a B+. He's super funny and nice but wants us to learn the subject so put a little effort and see your GPA go up.

The class is simple. Your grade is comprised of weekly quizzes from FREE readings and 3 exams from readings and lectures. There are NO makeups, so be timely. The class was said to be synchronous, but it was asynchronous because the Zoom classes were optional. The lectures feel like watching a repetitive politician, but maybe you'd like that.

All grades are based on exams (2 midterms and 1 final), 10 quizzes, and 2 extra credit quizzes. You're allowed two attempts for each, which is the best part of this course. Note that there won't be any makeups, so you must complete it before the deadline. However, this class is an easy A with minimum effort. Highly recommended for an elective req.

Great professor!! He'll explain any questions you might have and the general idea of the course during the first class which is mandatory. After that, you don't have to join the zooms because he posts all his lessons (readings/slides/youtube link lectures) on Blackboard. Weekly quizzes + 3 exams , no extensions, Easy A

met only once a week for the lecture (instead of the scheduled 2 days). he posts the recordings online. weekly quizzes, 3 exams, abt 4 days to do them so no extensions, he's kinda funny. just follow along w the content and deadlines and it'll be an easy A.

This class is basically a US history / government class you took in high school. Every week is a 10 Question MCQ with 3-4 Test that contains 30 Questions from previous Quiz questions. All of that combined will be the total of you grade. If you fail this class, I wonder how you were able to pass the high school history/government class.

Overall he is a good Prof.I took this class in the winter and the work that he assigns is simple. He assign quizzes that is based on the reading and the class however he over explains a lot which can get confusing.The final is a 1 page which requires a 2 page instruction/guide. You have to be able to keep up and not deviate from his directions.

The class only met once a week over winter semester, but outside of class, what matters is the effort you put in. Professor Desena is very good, just do the readings, DO the final paper. He explained everything clearly about detailed, but less writing.

Goes out of his way to ensure that students are learning the material and understanding what is expected of them. The assignment which took a lot of effort was the "why don't they paper" where we propose potential policies. Professor Desena answers all questions in class and is accessible outside of class. Just do your part and put in the work

Easy A class with minimal effort required. Professor posts lecture recordings online, so attendance is optional. Weekly quizzes and 3 exams, but you get multiple attempts. Unstuck study was a great study tool alongside the free readings. Highly recommended for an elective requirement.

Professor was awesome! Lectures were very practical, everything was very straightforward, and you leave the classes learning a lot! Doesn't assign busy work, all the assignments have a purpose.

Not a lot of time is required for assignments, he gives you ample time to research and by the time it is due you will have all necessary information. Take him you will not regret!
