He called his classroom a "learning community". Grades wern't stressed. There is no reason to not get an A or B. He's passionate about the subject and genuinely wants to share ideas with you.
one word AWESOME! if taking any Latin classes take his, teaches and explains things extremly well. OVerall its an easy A. FIVE STARS!
cool guy. interesting lectures. he rolls out good/fun facts one after the other. he cares about the subject. take good good notes, you'll need them for the final. shows good videos. 1 midterm essay and final is a group final. find a group that has attended class and taken notes and you should pass.
Easy class. you just need to show up and pay attention (is that THAT hard?) He is cool, but gets pissed when ppl enter the classroom half hour late. don't. Exams are very easy, everything is reviewed right before. Interesting, he knows what he is talking about. DON'T BUY THE STUPID READER. won't need it, just takes notes in class.
BORING CLASS!!! I DONT THINK ITS USEFUL IN LIFE. NOT ALOT OF WORK BUT GRADE IS BASED ON MID TERM, ONE IN CLASS TEST AND FINAL. DONT TAKE IF YOU NOT LIKE LONG BORING LECTURES.
DONT BUY THE READER!! Save your self $20 your dont even need it! Easy but very long boring lectures!
The diaspora class was amazing. took an 8 am class and it was the best way to start off my day. he is a smart City kid. Easy A. learned a lot. inspiring. if you show up to class and pay attention you'll find it interesting. i've been taking a lot of science classes, and compared to those, this fun class is the opposite of "boring."
Mojica is well spoken and well organized. He is the kind of prof. who wants his students to succed; hence maybe reason why he makes it known why there should not be no reason to walk out with an A. great teacher and I gained so much from his lectures/movies.
the class is koo and very interesting...he brings up good issues and involves his students in da class. I didnt buy da textbook n im gettin a A-B grade....just tak notes n do da essay
He was a great professor. He has an unorthodox teaching style because he is all lecture with class participation being 80% of it. I learned alot from his class. Take Marco of you want to learn. Easy A, just do the 4 assignments and the readings.
BEST TEACHER @ CCSF! If your latino/a, or just have an interest in Latin American studies, take this teacher! He is inspiring and very passionate about this subject. He encourages students to participate and will pass you if he sees that you are. He lets you choose what YOU want to be graded for test time.AWSOME GUY!
An excellent Professor with a passion for what he teaches
Lazy teacher with a boring lecture style.
AMAZING teacher! He knows what he is talking about. I HIGHLY suggest you take one of his classes. He is passionate about the subjects. Just take good notes and you'll maintain an A. HW is only reading, pretty easy class but loves to make you think. TAKE HIS CLASS!
Usually ~1/2 the class of ~20 is there weekly. 80% participation but really midterm&final (essays) were our grade. Very boring class where students do all the talking (he would elaborate after someone talks). We get into a circle and talk the 3 hours we're in class. We learn NOTHING and buy a HUGE ~$40 reader containing 30pg/article(~500pg total)
(continued from below) DON'T take this class unless you're really desperate for the credit/grade which you can get in an enriching class where you actually learn something... If essays and talking about boring stuff is what you like doing, then go for it. But if not, AVOID THIS CLASS. (Environment = ~12 people per week talking for 3 hours) Fun? No.
Interesting subject matter but some students disrupted class flow with their participation, mostly related to their identity issues. Everything is done in groups, you're secured an effortless A in right one. Nice guy with clear political agenda. You get only one side of the story from the SF perspective. Most of Latino Diaspora members kept quite.
Very interesting class, you really need to pay attention to get the whole picture of what the class is about. Tests were ok, for HW you might need to read the book, not necessary. He likes people who participate a lot. Excellent teacher!
Mr. Mojica is very passionate about what he teaches. If you love history, he will definitely make it worth your while. Homework is mostly reading which like some mentioned before me, you can get by without it. Of course attendance and your full undivided attention in class is necessary.
This guy is remarkable! By far, thy best professor at CCSF. His test are easy as long as you take notes. Read the texts he provides for an A. No HW and fun interesting class discussions. Take his class!
Awesome!
Inspiring, and makes you think outside the box!
GREAT TEACHER!! HE HAS A UNIQUE STYLE OF SPEAKING AND KEEPING YOUR ATTENTION FOCUSED. YOU COULD LITERALLY VISUALIZE THE STORIES HE TELLS ABOUT LATIN AMERICA. IT ALLOWS YOUR MIND TO EXPLORE OUTSIDE THE USUAL. I HIGHLY SUGGEST THIS CLASS!!
He's passionate about the topics he lectures on which keeps class interesting. He takes comments/questions/debate from students- don't be afraid to speak up. Quizzes are communal, tests are on lectures (take good notes and you'll be fine). Reading is really interesting, but probably not necessary to get a good grade.
Hes pretty cool. What I liked about his class was that it was easy to pass. all you have to do is come to class take notes and show up on tests days. The thing I hated was that he would usually cancel class on fridays without telling us so had me coming for nothing at time =/ not cool. Great lectures & explanations though
Great Teacher, Take his class, you cant go wrong.
I don't think anyone should go to ccsf and not take one of his classes! He is such a good teacher who is very passionate about what he teaches which keeps the class interesting. No textbook! I loved him because he allows students to express themselves and debate! easy easy A!
Mojica is such an awesome teacher! The discussions were lively and interesting. I had a lot of fun taking his class. There is a lot of reading, but it isn't really necessary to do all of it. I learned a lot and was very grateful to take this class.
Easy class and interesting. No homework. You have one paper or two but it's not hard at all. Quizzes are group quizzes, and partners for midterm and final.
Fantastic teacher. Very clear, very helpful. Lectures were amazing. The videos were fascinating. By far one of my favorite teachers at city.
He is an exceptional teacher... Only Homework is reading, quizzes are done in groups and he basically gives you the answers prior (study sheet) to giving the quiz, if you fail his class you are a moron..He is clear and knows his stuff. Only thing is that he can go talk forever. He shows movies in his classes and is very helpful.
Mr. Mojica is informed and interested in racial studies, particularly the African American and Mexican ethnicities. His class is mind-opening and transformative, even though his lectures can be a bit tedious. A good class and more importantly, full of relevant history and theory to contemporary political issues.
Great and nice teacher!!
He is passionate about what he teaches and it shows. Take notes, do the reading, pay attention. There was only two group activities, midterm (group) and a final. Easy & interesting class. Doesn't take attendance but be there otherwise you will miss important information.
Professor Mojica is a lot of fun and makes the material very interesting. Test and grading is fair and you are sure to leave his class with a new understanding of Latino/a history.
I really liked professor Mojica. His classes were lecture based, so pay attention and take notes. There were VERY few assignment (group activities/ midterm with a partner + a paper final) Probably the easiest and best professor I took at City. I would highly suggest taking one of his classes.
Great professor, yet I felt sorry him for having a lot of idiots in my class. Guys, just listen to the lecture, so you can go to the next class right away. There were so many interferences with classmates consistently asking irrelevant questions, which ruins professor's focus on the lecture.
Briefly, his enthusiasm for, combined with his knowledge of, the subject made the history of Latin America come to life. He is among the best teachers I've ever had.
Excellent teacher. Lectures are never boring. Learned a lot. Quizzes are easy.
good teacher one of my favorites take notesand you should do fine on the two quizzes he gives
Great, witty and amazing professor. Lectures are always interesting and informative. You'll never fall a sleep in his class. Attend every class, take notes and pay attention to his wonderful lectures and you'll pass with flying colors. Very recommend.
Mr Mojica is awesome. His class is easy, if you take notes and review them. Group activities also and the final too. The material is great.
The greatest teacher I've had thus far. Very clear and engaging discussions. Definitely take this class!
Professor Mojica is very passionate about this subject, and he just has so much knowledge.Overall, I learned a lot from this professor.
Professor Mojica is very helpful. You can tell he is passionate about the subject he is lecturing about. In LALS 1 the only textbook we needed was his own reader that we had to pickup at a print shop for 25$.
His teaching style is engaging and passionate and I had no idea I would fall in love with the subject matter until I took this class. Pay attention, take notes and you will pass this class. Do not use your cell phone in class as it is his only pet peeve.
I actually really enjoyed this class! He basically just lectures for the whole hour. No presentations or homework. Just take good notes because they will help you with the ONE test he gives. Our final was writing a paper on a book, which was not hard. Easy class. If you're interested in Latino studies, I recommend you take it.
Don't take his class because despite on his nice attitude, he is not so good regarding grades. Quizzes maybe easy but they don't impact on your final grade. Midterm grade impacts not so much. You will pass this class if you find somebody who helps you with final essay. You can be absent after midterm, just come in class at one week before last day.
It is one of the many boring classes. The teacher does not give you clear lectures. A book is stupid: you will never find answers there to the question posed in the classroom. Office hours are not useful because the teacher just bla-bla-bla with you. Anyways, if you have a choice, take other class, instead of this one.
Classes are superintersting. Marco makes connection in his lectures that are very helpful to remember for when you have to take the test.
I was pretty bummed when this class ended as I won't be able to see Prof. Mojica's amazing lectures. His lectures are compelling and he sets you up pretty well to do great on his quizzes and tests. Must take.
Mr. Mojica is a great professor. I took this class because it was required, but I found it very interesting class/subject. If you attend class and take notes, you will do great. Students have to write an essays for the final exam, but it is all based on the readings and class lecture. I highly recommend this class!
Marco is an awesome teacher. I learnt so many things about latinos in US. He is super passionate about what he teaches. If you take notes of his lectures and go every day you will pass. He brought a few movies and documentaries that made the class more interesting.
He'll take up a whole class talking about one topic. Very opinionated and a little bias but you should take notes. The 10 quizzes are the homework which you can retake twice. Midterm is based on the quizes. Final is essay based on a reading. Kind of a rude teacher and you can tell if he likes you or not but take him if you want an easy A.
I took this class several semesters ago. I learned so much about Latin American. It's important to know our history! I wish he taught more classes. You won't want to miss this class. Take notes and you will pass.
His lectures are so not interesting and boring. Watching old movies make you falling asleep. His final essay is only for those who are native Latin and familiar with history. He doesnt give a mercy for students who miss class for excused reasons. He doesnt provide extra credits at all. No any reasons to be admired about his class. Dont take it.
The professor was a very kind, thorough, and helpful teacher. He gave me the opportunity to improve myself over the semester and in the end it paid off. You have to be organized, responsible, and turn in your work by the deadline. Reading is a must. I learned a lot and I am grateful to have taken his class.
Not a fan of his feedback style. Extremely condescending and rude. I used his lecture in a comment for his class and I was told that I didnt follow instructions. He lacks a way to speak to or approach him without animosity, due his feedback style. He was referred, Ill Stick to my own choices from now on.
Such a great guy and such an amazing teacher! His lectures are easy to listen to, his personality is charming, and he's a great speaker. As long as you keep up with the lectures and do the quizzes, which are totally easy if you pay attention, you'll pass no problem!
Very boring and disadvantage class. He is not provided something interesting in context of Latin identification. No any extra credits, no any excuses. Sometimes he allows insolent jokes toward students. He may come late and due to it he can hold you up after class. His office hours he spends only for talking some off-topic things. Useless!
honestly I feel like I didn't learn what I signed up for. I didn't like his lectures, they lack details and facts and was boring. kinda feels like he repeats himself over and over, he had no powerpoint or outline. that being said, his class was an EASY A. some easy online quizzes and 2 exams that he gives you good study guides for.
Awesome teacher. If you go to class, listen and take right notes you will pass the course with an easy A. He has mini-quizzes on the topic each week and about 10-15 questions each but gives you at least a week to do it. His mid-term is pretty easy with a review, and if you didn't get the terms correctly, and his final is a take-home test.
The one good thing from this online class was that I figured out pretty early on that you can take the tests twice and in doing so you get the answers and should not fail. Lectures were poorly planned, there wasnt a centering culmination of ideas, just random videos and excerpts. No clarification on grades. Poor grammar in lectures drove me nuts
All of his course material must have been hastily written once years ago and never proofread, because the amount of typos and terrible grammar is just shocking. Online class feels directionless. Wash, rinse, repeat of the same stuff that's been used for years. Not heavy lifting if you're looking for an A, but certainly not an inspiring experience
I was very nervous to take an online course. But this class was very informative, and motivating. and my nervousness was no more.I would 100% recommend this processor.
His class was always impacted and hard to get and I see why now. Never before have I had a Latino professor teach a Latinx studies class (only white professors), and he lived up to every expectation. Great class. Learned a lot. I really respect him. Clear lectures, clear assignments, interesting content and easy to pass if you do all your work.
I think a lot of people who left previous negative reviews maybe just didnt put a lot of effort into the class and wanted a good grade. I slacked on a few discussions this semester and definitely was reminded to stay on track. Theres no late work accepted. If you manage your time, do your reading, and follow instructions, youll get an A.
Really enjoyed learning about Latin American Studies. The class has insightful lectures and material. Prof Mojica was great. I think as long as you take the class seriously and do your homework, you will find the class quite enjoyable and interesting.
This class was ok, nothing very exciting to learn and it gets quite boring sometimes. Professor Mojica is a average teacher and makes you work hard for a good grade. Also, he does not accepts late assignment.
Pre-recorded lectures lacking any real charisma. Tests were painfully easy. His grading was nonsensical and all over the place. Not a bad experience but not one to write home about.
I took Mojica several years ago he is driven and inspiring. I had always joined classes that were Mexican History focused but Mojica made it clear his focus was Latino Studies. I learned so much about Central America, Caribbean islands, and South America. I was drawn in and years later I am working on a LTNS major. It is hard to find a dedicated
Mojica is a great professor, his instructions are clear and his grading is fair. I took his online course and I can break it up into two parts, the first where it's very lecture heavy and the second where you're expected to read a book and complete his assignments by the end of the week. His quizzes shouldn't be hard if you completed the work.
I took Mojica's LALS class through Zoom. Lectures are pre-recorded, and he basically reads some notes. Real easy to follow! There's usually an assigned reading for the week + you have to watch a 1 hour documentary/film every week. Quizzes are weekly but easy and you get two attempts. Final is based off of a book you read. Overall kind & easy class
Very boring class overall. Nothing personal against the teacher but his teaching style is not my favorite. He seems a bit rude in the way he words things and even though this is a 2 credit class, it felt like a lot of reading and homework. The content is very repetitive and I felt like I was learning the same thing over and over.
Great class definitely recommend it. professor marco is very caring and if you do the work youll definitely pass this class with an A. Very easy class.
Professor Mojica was a great teacher to take. Discussions every week and quizzes as well. The midterm was a quiz but the final was an essay so be prepared to write one
Mojica is very strict with deadlines, so make sure you turn things in on time. In the condensed class, we do weekly discussions (4+ questions) and 2 quizzes per week; all are not too hard. It starts out heavier than later. Personally, the context in the class is kind of biased, but I am not taking the class for my major.
You will learn a lot from Latinx - The Latinx Experience class. The lectures are very helpful, but you will get deep knowledge and information from the readings and videos that Professor Mojica gives. Participation and discussions are very important along with deadlines. It is, indeed, a very interesting and valuable class to take.
Why did he make us listen to him for 40min read off of a paper for the lectures when he could've just posted the paper itself? & then he posts 2-3 reading materials a week. There's a discussion every week w/ quiz. Final is a 4-8pg essay from a mandatory book to buy. The only class took up 2-3 hrs a week of my time but I'm never taking him again.
First week of class he had us take a twenty-five question quiz! For a three credit class! Information he gave I believe is coming from his own experiences and not on actual data.
The overall topic was well put and covered a lot of great material. Gives students lots to supporting material to dive into for further explanation with readings and videos. That said, strict with due dates, expect to read and write. Lecture presentations entailed him reading the doc word for word.
I enjoyed my class with Professor Mojica, especially because he makes video lectures. With all my experience in online classes, he is the only professor who does this, and i think its a shame that not everyone does it in CCSF. I learned a lot and am forever grateful.
No need for painkillers here. The syllabus was straightforward. Mojica is approachable and quick to reply to emails, so you're never left hanging. Grading criteria? Logical and respectful. Participation is non-negotiable. The best part? His respect for students. He treats everyone like they're in the front row, even if you're chilling in the back.
Mojica is a great teacher. He is passionate about his lecture materials, and is very straightforward with his grading rubric. He gives plenty of time to prepare for quizzes, and plenty of resources in the forms of videos and articles. I found his class to be engaging and a joy. He is one of the valuable teachers at CCSF.
Overall the assignments weren't as bad. Expect to read many articles!! and watch long videos. He gives out quizzes every week based of his lectures topics. Also, before the end of semester final, he told us 3 weeks before to start reading an entire book that will be based off the final... we couldn't use him as any source ..
I keep reading about how White people(me) have constantly wronged Latinos. I mean this is the ONLY thing I keep reading about in EVERY reading. Also, Mojica is OBSESSED with the term Latinx - so much that that's what he named his class. I mean this term was the FIRST thing we learned about? The class assignment consist of discussion and quizzes.
When evaluating a professor's professional abilities, it's important to consider both their teaching style and their ability to convey the material clearly. These factors play a significant role in how effectively students are able to engage wit Discuss the professor's professional abilities including teaching style and ability to convey the mats.
The instructor seems more focused on getting specific responses than supporting different learning styles. There's no space for interpretation it feels like we're being told exactly what to think. With two modules due each week and 2–3 heavy readings (10+ pages each), it's overwhelming and hard to process. He's never satisfied with any one respond
Professor injects political ideology, invoking Trump weekly, and derails class with irrelevant tangents. His late-policy is absolute: no extensions ever. His PhD thesis is shallow and poorly argued. In small classes, he lectures as if in a hall, stifling discussion. If this didn't fulfill requirements, I would never take it, joke of a class.
I don't agree with recent reviews. Class is based exactly on lectures and reading. Once you figure out how to work smarter, not harder, work can be done quickly. He had super clear criteria for discussions and multiple quiz attempts. I was hoping for this class to have more discussion but at least instructions and grading were exceedingly clear.
Professor Marci Moija was a good professor. The textbooks were provided, and there was a weekly discussion post and quiz. The discussion posts were graded strictly and required quotes and citations. As long as you stay on top of the work and follow the instructions, you can pass the class.
