If you really want to learn take this professor!!!. I learned more that I expected, he really knows the subject and had a lot experience on the material, he also makes the class enthusiastic even on late night class, and he is open to help you on weekends and after class. Do not be scared!! This has been one of my best course.
In my opinion this is one of the best professors @ FIU. He has been in finance-banking industry for over 30 years; has great experience and up-to-date knowledge of subject, which is really helpful especially when the textbook wasn't updated for cpl years. Lectures time usually flies quickly; not boring; very interactive; wish every class like this!
He really knows the information well. You do need to study a lot for this class to be able to answer the essay portions of his exams. You also have 2 long papers to write by the end of the semester. If you really want to learn something then he is the teacher for you. If you are hoping to just fly by then don't take him. He is one of the best.
Lets be honest guys Mr Kerbel look as the most difficult professor ever since the first day. However, he is very flexible. It is true that you have to study but he is very fair. He really teach a lot even when his subject is kind of hard. He has a lot of quizzes and articles but this really helps for a general education. I will take him again.
Do Not take this professor. He contradicts himself like no other. He does not use the book and only speaks of himself. You may pass and he may be nice. But believe me when i say it won't be worth it and you will be teaching yourself. I will most likely end with an A or B
He brings a lot of experience to the class. He is not easy but he is fair and if you work hard to earn the A you will get it. If you do the work and participate in class the 2 and half hours will fly by. Time consuming but worth it for your career.
Prof.Kerbel have been one of the most knowledgeable professor that I have ever had. His class is really fun and if you go and engaged in the class, you will enjoy it a lot.I took 2 classes with him this semester and I am planning in taking FIN 4634 with him in the fall.Thank you prof. for sharing all your knowledge with us. TAKE HIM!! He's the best!
Best professor in FIU!! Knows a lot about finance and he is willing to teach the student to understand the material. If you want to learn take him!!Very fair and is available every time you have a question!! I took FIN4324 and i am planning to take FIN4634 as an elective, that is how much i liked him, study hard and you'LL get a good grade!!
If you want to learn TAKE HIM! Very good and fair with everybody, wants students to learn. Always available for a question and ready to explain any doubts! The best professor in FIU!!
I Took this professor for two classes this semester FIN 4303 AND 4324. He is VERY knowledgeable and very nice. He wants his students to learn. There is work but it's not that much time consuming if you pace yourself. :)
At first, I thought this class was overwhelming but it really isn't. Just do the assignments on time and you will be fine! The professor is very nice!
i love professor kerbel. he reallyyy cares about his students more than a anything else. if u really wana learn taki him!!. attendance is mandatory and you can not use computers in class unless u sit in the front row.class is not hard at all.He will help you with whatever you need so u can pass his class with a good grade. Prob the best prof at fiu
If you really want to learn, no with a book, but by storytelling, this is it. He does a good work transmitting his experiences in his many years as an active Banker . It is important not to miss class, he will get to know you by name within 2 to 3 lectures. If you go to class and submit your papers you get a good grade for sure.
Prof. Kerbel teaches practical knowledge of the financial environment and banking. Will not go strictly by the book but his experience is a lot more valuable. Attendance is very important. Unconventional teaching methods but I learned a lot.
This is the absolute WORST professor at FIU. He doesn't even talk about financial analysis. If you want to fail, this is your guy. I cannot say more horrible things about this professor. I have absolutely NO respect for this professor!
Took this class during the summer and this professor didn't cut us no slack. In 7 weeks we had 20 quizzes, mid-term, final exam, 2 weekly postings, ethical analysis, research paper, and a presentation. None traditional teaching but you will learn. Just think twice about taking him during the summer.
Fin 4303, This is a great professor, he teaches practical knowledge of financial enviroment and banking, he gives a lot of work but you learn, If you really want to learn takes this professor, His experience is a lot more valuable than the book, He is available for help even on weekends. Taken him
Great professor, teaches the concepts related to the real world making them easier to understand and more practical. Keeps you update with the daily news which makes class interesting. Two papers to write but they are not too bad since he advises you from the beginning of the semester.
Wow, got stuck with him at the last minute. To say that he was AWEFUL would be an understatement. DIDNT EVEN HAVE A SYLLABUS FOR ALMOST 6 WEEKS! The tests however were only 30% of the Grade. most of the class that could dropped it. DO NOT TAKE IF UR IN HOSPITALITY!!!!
This is my second class with Kerbel. A lot of work, but I can honestly say I learned more in his classes than many of my other combined. The info I learned in my 2 classes with him transferred over into many of my other classes. He's always available to help even out of class. If you show interest and try, you'll be fine and get A without a problem
As a finance major, HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE! You will learn absolutely nothing, and he still keeps asking DID YOU LEARN ANYTHING? to be honest I didn't because he doesn't explain the chapters. He skims through 3 chapters in last 15 min of class.
Very helpful!Professor is always available when needed, will answer phone at any time. Class is based on hands-on banking experiences from him which then are reinforced by the texboook. Class is great and you will learn a lot with him.
I took professor Kerbel for FIN4303 and FIN4324. I learned a lot from his class lectures and emphasis on ethics. Make sure you attend every class, do the work and start working on the project early. Ask, ask, ask questions about the project, he is ALWAYS available to help. I would take him again anytime.
take him! he is the best
Prof Kerbel is a nice guy. He makes the class really easy. In the beginning he could seem intimidating but he is really easy. many projects but he grades fairly. I recommend it, you will learn and get a good grade!
Excellent professor! Very understanding and willing to help if you ask. Gives reviews prior to exams. You have to do 2 projects, weekly article postings, quizzes and 2 exams. If you do all your work there is no reason to get a bad grade.
I took this class in summer A, and I'm going to take FIN4303 with him in summer B. Marcos Kerbel is one of the best professor at FIU, and you can call him to his personal phone; I think that is wonderful. It is a lot of work, but if you study, you will learn a lot. He is really smart, and he knows how teach the material. Take him!!!!!!!!!!!!
First time review---really enjoyed the class, prof. is very knowledgeable. you will enjoy but it's a lot of work.
The best professor ever. He really cares about the students and wants you to LEARN. It is a lot of work(especially for summer b), but it prepares you for your career.Great person!
This is a professor that I don't recommend to take in Summer this is because it will be a lot of work. Two research Papers and articles that are due each day. There is a lot of work but he is amazing. He cares about his students and the work is easy but a lot. I recommend him and I took it for summer. I survive but it was a lot of work.
This class is definitely one that makes you work for the grade you want. theres alot of work to do, but the prof is always available if you have any concerns. Getting together with other classmates to study is key! If you go to class, do the article assignements on time and study in groups, you will do just fine!
Very hectic during summer but it is doable. Start the projects early, do the quizzes ahead of time, read the book. Uses blackboard heavily (broken system). Somewhat disorganized. The first week he'll tell you something regarding the projects or the class, the next week he'll completely change what he said after your have already begun.
Worst professor ever!!! nobady complains because the test bank is online and all student have it. However, as a finance major, I did not like it. You will learn nothing, and I am not doubting his knowledge, but his teaching techniques sucks. At the end I had a problem with the system and he did not help me at all. He is not professional either.
Start the project early especially if your taking the class in the summer. He is willing to help you after class so don't be afraid to ask any questions. You should take the class
The professor is very good. He has a lot of experience in the banking industry. He is always able to answer questions in class and outside of class. I like his essay exams which gives you the opportunity to show him what you really learned in class. I recommend any student to take him!
This is not an easy class. There are a lot of assignments to do, but we have to understand that this was a summer class to cover 20 chapters. The professor is very knowledgeable, clear, willing to help the students who have questions. Since the beginning of the curse he gave us a written guide to follow for our projects. Excellent professor.
Great Professor, the class is not incredibly difficult; however a lot of time studying is needed to get a good grade. The Prof. is willing to help, and has a lot of exprerience that is very helpful. DO NOT CHEAT (or try "He knows"), be active in class and ask questions and you will learn the material with no problem!
Professor Kerbel is an excellent teacher. His teaching methods are far superior then any previous professors I've had. A lot of work but if YOU put in the effort YOU will learn and receive the grade you deserve.
Two Research papers, Midterm, Final, 4 quizzes, weekly article postings (Summer Class). I did not learn anything mainly because I wanted to PASS the course instead of learn about international banking. He talks way too much about South America. Not strucutred AT ALL. No point of having a syllabus. Is VERY helpful, extended many deadlines.
Be prepared to put in time for his classes but you will learn a lot. If you're looking for an easy class to breeze through he is not the professor for you. He will make you work to earn your grade. Excellent professor. Extremely knowledgeable and helpful. He wants you to pass and learn. He requires you to participate and be engaged in the class.
Really good professor scared you, but he is the best!,,,,,,,
Great professor, goes out of his way to make sure you get a good grade.
Nice professor, you have to work but he will really help you.
Great teacher, he makes you work but it ultimately helps you to better understand the class. Took him for financial markets and institutions and int. banking. Highly recommended.
amazing professor, one of the top 3 in my history at FIU and i am a senior. extremely knowledgeable. runs his classes very strictly but for the best. course work is one of the bigger but very doable. I had him for 2 back to back classes along with 2 other classes and did fine. very understand if you speak with him. would take again A+
Fantastic Professor. Best I've had at FIU.
One of the most knowledgeable professors, won't regret taking him because you do learn a lot. The only thing I will say is the coursework is overload, but you learn a lot from it.
Great Professor, really knows what he's doing. He works with you when you don't understand something and really tries to get you to understand the material, insisting good daily activities that will help you in the future.
I strongly recommend to take Prof.Kerbel if you really want to learn. Although the class is not easy and requires a lot of work you learn a lot. His class is very interactive with presentations, public speakers and projects. He really cares about his students.I have taken two classes with him and I do not regret.
I highly recommend this class with prof. Kerbel if you are a finance major! He is very knowleageble & he cares for students to learn. Weekly quizzes and articles are helpful so you don't fall behind. There is a research project & ethical analysis which you shouldn't leave for last minute. Pay attention to class and participate! You'll learn a lot
One of the best teachers I've had at FIU. Class is hard and requires a lot of work, but it is doable. The amount of work you put in the class will define your grade. Would definitely take another class with him. Very knowledgeable and strict but helps you if you need him too.
I heard Kerbel was a one of the better finance professors at FIU, but when I got into his class for SummerB I didnt like his way of teaching. He made students present each chapter, so basically you're teaching yourself, although he does interrupt to give his 2cents every slide. He's very knowledgeable in this field however Will not take him again
Teaching is the best form of learning. Professor adds to each presentation with real life pertinent information, to promote understanding. Students who do not put in effort, will never succeed through college. YOU WILL GET OUT WHAT YOU PUT IN. Overall, great professor who cares about his students. Very informative and enjoyable!
This course requires work, but in no way is it busy work. He will interrupt your presentation to EDUCATE the class. If you go to class and listen to him, not only will you succeed in the course but I can guarantee you that you will utilize the knowledge in your business or job. I am not paying thousands to pass a class, I would like to learn.
I Had a better experience this time i took FIN3403 because we would go in dept with every chapter. He lets us do presentations for each chapter while elaborating on key and important points.
Not sure why any1 would have issues with this class unless u forgot u were signing up 4 a 6 weeks class. MIT would only give u 2 weeks to adjust with the material. Professor with the knowledge and real world experience don’t come by easy since many schools now days r becoming more like the fast food industry. Any1 wants to learn take his class.
This is honestly my second time taking this course. It has nothing to do with my major but of course mandatory and I am glad I got to take this course with Professor Kerbel! He let's you get into groups and present chapters to the class and helps you while you present. Uses up to date information that ties in with the class! Take him! He's amazing!
This Professor epitomizes the definition of a consumate proffessional. Aside from his myriad number of licenses and accreditations, he is very humble and sincere. Great class environment, if you study and you ready the book, you will pass. A+ Professor.
Ir u need to take FIN3403 do yourself a favor and take it with prof Kerbel, he's the most caring professor I've met since high school. He makes sure u not only get a grade but that u learn for your future. It's not an easy class cause there's a lot of material to cover, but just make sure you read and do your work on time. Very satisfied w prof K.
Very good professor. Very interesting class. He makes sure you learn and understand the material and concepts. RECOMMEND to take. You will work hard but it will be worth it.
He is a great professor and he uses the approach of students teaching the subject because the more you teach a subject the more you learn about the subject.
Best finance teacher at FIU! You WILL remember him because he will make sure you learn. Take every finance class you can with him!!
THE BEST PROFESSOR I EVER HAD AT FIU! THIS GUY HAS EXPERIENCE IN THE FIELD AND TEACHES BEYOND THE THEORY !!!!
I thought it was one of the easiest classes I've ever taken but you might struggle with the material if you've never seen anything in corporate financeacg before. Kerbel genuinely cares about his students and makes it interestingeasy. He's an old technophobic geezer and kind of annoying (interrupts a LOT) but a good guy. Recommended.
Prof. Kerbel is great ! This was my third class with him. You have to do 2 articles posting every week. 4 Quizzes during the semester. 1 Long research paper and 1 ethical analyses. He is a fair grader but reaaally helpful with everything. GO TO CLASS !!! His lectures are long but you learn a lot . Overall amazing professor.
Excessive amount of work, but overall a great professor who truly cares for his students.
Worth taking this class with Kerbel, even though he kinda talks too much but he teaches good. He makes you work hard for the grade, but at the end it pays off I got an A. He asks for a midterm (20%), final (20%), Research paper (20%),ethical analysis (10%),chapter quizzes (10%),Weekly reading(10%),powerpoint presentation(5%), and attendance (5%).
Prof. Kerbel is highly competent to give the class he has incredible knowledge and experience about the subject. Although he makes students present chapters, he will mostly give the class himself as he interrupts a lot to further explain each topic in detail. If you do your work you'll have a very good grade.
I learned a lot during this semester. He is a great teacher and his teaching methods is interesting. He will hold you in the classroom until the last minute. expect two tests (midterm and final) 20 chapter quizzes, article postings weekly, a class presentation, and two projects. I definitely recommend him and would take his class again.
Professor is extremely engaging and knowledgeable and made the course interesting and fun. Great communication. Genuinely cares about his students and wants us to learn. One of, if not the, the best professor I have had at FIU.
He's excellent. i've taken two classes with him. A lot of work, but it's not useless fluff. Very knowledgeable.
People I know you may look at his high 4.4 quality but in reality, its not! If you like to work a lot, self study, write a 20 pg country research paper, and more papers, then take him. His midterm is crazy! 3 parts ( 14 essays/ t&f and Multiple Choice 50 quest, and a map ( you must know their country/capitals/ and currency. DON'T TAKE HIM!
I took Professor Kerbel for 3 courses - Financial Markets & Institutions, Commercial Bank Management and International Banking. If you want to learn a lot from an incredibly knowledgeable and experienced instructor, I would highly recommend his courses. Professor Kerbel KNOWS his stuff. He loves his students & really wants us to learn. Take him!
Prof. Kerbel is a wonderful professor and you will learn a lot in his class. If you are lazy and don't want to learn anything, maybe he's not the one for you. Personally, I loved his class and definitely got my money's worth. He is very well connected and goes above and beyond for his students. Take him, you won't regret it.
Very good profesor, cares for the students understanding of the course.
He's an excellent professor, attendance is mandatory and he gives opportunity to make up work that you miss. You have a midterm and a final, 2 papers to write and 2 weekly article to write. Attendance is 5% of your grade.
Professor Kerbel is the most outstanding , the best Professor ever. If you want to learn about real business in the banking industry and Finance then take his classes. He is very approachable and he cares about his students given 100 percent of his best. His expectations are high making his classes the best way to prepare you. Take his classes.
Professor Kerbel is the perfect combination of a lot of practical experience in the real International banking arena and a knowledgeable outstanding professional. He loves his students and really he cares about them. He offers the best quality of education in his lectures by bringing Regulators and Executives of Florida State to speak to us.
If you are lazy and mediocre student in your expectations do not take the class of this Professor because their expectations are high. He is inspiration personified bringing their students to exploit their full potential. I highly recommend his class. You will never regret having done so. If you want to excel in your career then you should do it.
His expectations are high helping students learn as much as possible. You will never be alone because he will be at your fingertips at any time you need help. This is true, you can call him at any time and he will responds as soon as he can offering the help you need either clarifying any concerns or any questions you have. It is very truth .
The most interesting lectures delivered . Professor Kerbel makes your time valuable by delivering interesting lectures with the direct participation of the students and his constant participation during the lectures . He is not reading a power point like other professors that I had before. He shows a lot of respect. I highly recommend his class.
I just finished tonight my Summer class with Professor Kerbel. The second consecutive semester with him because I had him for International Banking last Springs. Has been such a privilege to have this outstanding Professor and educator that impacted so much my Professional life as well as my personal life. I learned a lot in both semesters.
Professor thinks he re-invented the grading system. Basically makes students do his tests and lectures while he sits back and criticizes you for everything. Gives tons of work and imposes religion on everything. He will make you want to drop the class. Not a harsh grader but definitely an attitude problem
I have taken professor Kerbel twice. Did I get an A? No. Did I REALLY learn? You bet. His teaching methodology works best with those who work hard and plan ahead. If you're not like that, you'll learn to be. You do have to study and read A LOT, and it can be very overwhelming. If you're very serious about finance and learning, take him.
Like professor Kerbel likes to say, you get your moneys worth in this class. You read and learn A LOT. You have lengthy papers, current events, quizzes, and complex exams. However, if you're on the ball and do your stuff/participate in class, it's all worth it. He cares that you learn! He cares about his students, and loves his profession.
Professor Kerbel is one of the best professors I've had in FIU. Don't take him if you want an easy A though. He will make you work for it and like he says, "you get your moneys worth in this class", I promise you this, the information you will get is indispensable, and the good habits you'll create are as well. His top concern is that you learn.
Lots of repetitive work. Professor knows his stuff.
Professor Kerbel wants to prepare you for the professional work environment. He is highly knowledgeable, experienced, and helpful. The course syllabus is intense and makes you study. Choose him if you want to have competitive advantage in the job market.
His classes are by no means an easy A. For each class I posted 12 articles, took 20 quizzes, delivered a presentation, wrote 2 papers, and addressed mid-term and final. However, the Professor is very knowledgeable and inspirational. If you really want to learn, build good habits and connections, I would HIGHLY recommend taking him for both classes
Nothing but good things to say about professor Kerbel. I took Commercial banking as well as International banking and I can tell you he does a great job of preparing you for the real world. Professor Kerbel is one of the few professors I've had who truly cares about his students. He is always available to help you. Take him you wont regret it.
Kerbel comes off as tough and in a way he is, but he shows you how much he cares. Call it tough love. You will be intimidated when you first meet him, but all you have to do is follow EXACTLY what he says and you will get an A. Quizzes are simple and you will see them on the exam, Exams are student made. Take him, trust me you will not regret it.
FIN 4634 Love this guy, his knowledge in immense. All of his classes follow the same pattern. Follow his instructions to the point, make yourself of a good group to study. You would be fine.
amazing professor inside and outside the classroom. lots of work--2 research papers, midterm, final, weekly quizzes, lots of reading. he gives you real world advice and wants you to learn so you can apply knowledge in the workforce. hes very understanding that most of us are students that work full-time. dont use your phone in class lol he gets mad
Class environment is great, I learned a lot, course is easy, two exams, 15 quizzes, weekly articles posting and two papers. He has a lot of knowledge and you can take advantage of it, attendance is mandatory 5% of final grade, also one group presentation, but I recommend him, he is an outstanding professor and one of the best at FIU in my opinion
This professor is one of a kind, it was a gift being in his class. Professor Kerbel is so knowledgable, and has so much history to back up his knowledge. This is not just another class, you will walk out of your final feeling accomplished. Attendance is mandatory, two papers, weekly newspaper readings, weekly quizzes, and one class presentation.
Out of all my finance classes, I learned the most in this one. Every week you will have postings from the newspaper, and quizzes, 2O page research paper, 10 page ethics paper, midterm, final , class presentation of a chapter. all in all this is not an easy A but you will learn so much.
If you want to learn, and I mean actually learn, this is the professor you need to take. The man knows anything and everything about the in and outs of finance. This is not an easy A, and if going to class is not your thing, this is not the class for you because he grades on attendance. Best professor at FIU by far.
Professor Kerbel is the best professor at FIU. You will get your money's worth from this class, and he will keep you awake and interested the entire class. His grading scale is based off of, Weekly article postings, weekly quizzes, ethical analysis paper, country research paper, midterm and final. He also graded on attendance.
I've had Professor Kerbel for 2 semesters already (2 different classes) and I can honestly say his knowledge is universal. I couldn't believe how smart he is, and all the history he has in the financial world. This is not an easy A, you will have to work for it, but in the end it's so worth it. He's seriously an inspiration.
This class teaches you the behind the scenes stuff of finance, like banking history and laws and regulations. Professor Kerbel keeps it interesting. He lets us kind of create the midterm and then he reviews the questions, I enjoyed this class, there are 2 big papers, start them in the beginning of the semester, that will save you a lot of time.
Tips for this class: get a semester student subscription to Wall Street Journal (this will help with weekly article postings), attend every class and sign the sign in sheet (grades for attendance), start the papers in the beginning of the semester (saves a lot of time), pick good team member (super important), take the time to learn everything.
I don't think I could say enough great things about this man, I've already signed up for another class with him.
If you are looking for an easy A, then keep looking, because Prof. Kerbel will make you work for it, but when you finish, it will be one of your great accomplishments at FIU. This class is not easy, you will have to put in the time and effort, he will call you out if your slacking. Professor Kerbel is one of a kind.
If you're looking to show up and pass this is not the professor. He makes you work for it with weekly discussions and chapter quizzes, 3 tests, a paper, and a group project. It's definitely one of the classes that makes you interact the most with the professor as well as your classmates. Mr. Kerbel wants you to pass but you have to put the effort.
Best prof. in all of FIU. One of the classes you'll learn the most He makes you work for it with weekly discussions and chapter quizzes,3 tests, a paper, and a group project. It's definitely one of the classes that makes you interact the most with the professor as well as your classmates. Mr. Kerbel wants you to pass but you have to put the effort.
Cool professor, interesting personal experience with the material. Taking him again for global private banking!
Quizzes for every chapter, 2 article postings per week, mid-term and final and a SERIOUS project. Start the project early.. Everything else is cake. Take him if you want a conversation driven class. Easy A. I've taken him for 3 classes and gotten all As. I would take him for every class if I could
I would easily rate Professor Kerbel as one of the best professors within the college of business at FIU. His classes are filled with relevant information that students will be able to utilize later on in their professional careers. I would recommend any student to take his class. It is the most value you will receive for your money.
Last Saturday night was one of the most unforgettable moments in my life where I received officially my Bachelor in Finance. Professor Kerbel has been the most extraordinary and amazing Professor in my path at FIU giving thank you to him in person in our ceremony was not enough. IF you take his classes then you will understand my words about him.
Professor Kerbel is by far one of the best professors to have in FIU. The level of prestige that the professor has in the field is easily demonstrated through his teachings. There's no doubt he's the best one at FIU for finance.
Definitely a teacher who tries to make sure you walk out at the end of the semester with much more knowledge than you came in with. The class is slightly difficult since theres lengthy assignments that are required to be completed but besides that its worth taking him.
I've taken Professor Kerbel for 2 other classes already. This is one of the best Professor I've ever had. The level of caring he has for his students is remarkable, he wants everyone to succeed, he gives us all the tools available to market ourselves in the real world. If you want to learn take Professor Kerbel, he's 100% worth it.
Professor Kerbel is very knowledgeable and has years of experience in the field. Responds quickly to emails and phone calls. The course (4634) is not easy - you will have to read a lot, he assigns multiple textbooks, 1 group presentation, 2 individual papers to write, weekly news postings, about 15 quizzes and 2 exams. Attendance is mandatory.
This is my first time reviewing a teacher. I must say that professor Kerbel is a god at what he does. He's lived through all the new regulations that our banking system deals with today, and can tell you firsthand how it affected the way bankers operate. This class is CHALLENGING, you will have to work for your A. There is a ton of assignments.
Professor Kerbel may come off intimidating at first but its just because he wants to prepare you for the real world. Very few professor will teach with his methods and have the background and record to give you real world insight like he does. Don't be afraid of a little work, I promise it pays off.
This course has a lot of work. 10 article discussions, 10 quizzes, 2 hefty research papers, powerpoint presentation, midterm (essays/multiple choice), final (essays/multiple choice). However, he tries really hard to make people learn - tough love. Be prepared to learn how to present and don't repeat mistakes he already told people about.
He's a great professor. The work is not difficult at all. Do not multitask in his class, he hates it. He is easy to reach if you have any question and he is an easy professor to talk too. It might be a lot of work (2 papers, 2 exams and around 15 quizzes, and a few article postings weekly) but the work is not difficult.
I was scared of this class going into it. he comes off as intimidating. In the end he is actually a great guy and you'll learn a lot from him!
He was a great Professor, honestly cares that his students does well and learns something meaningful every class. I took FIN 4634 over the summer and would not recommend doing so. The course was extremely fast paced. He made sure we did every single assignment full terms are required to do.
He is an excellent professor. A lot of work but you are definitely going to learn in his class.
Prof. Kerbel is a professor that genuinely cares about his students at FIU. He is like a grandfather like figure to his students. Every class is a casual discussion on relevant topics on the current events and an overall prepares you how to succeed on Interviews in the Finance field. The workload is completely manageable JUST CALL HIM Dont EMAIL!!!
FIU must have more professor like Kerbel. You will have to work a lot in this course, but all the work is only to be more informed and prepared for real life. In other words, all the work done is for the student benefit instead for the professor. 2 weekly articles, 2 tests, 2 papers, 15 quizzes, 1 presentation, and attendance is mandatory.
2 weekly discussions online+2 weekly easy quizzes10% online+10% attendance- miss 3 days you get a 70% of that- Miss 4 60%. Super picky to the point of being rude. 15%Midterm +20%Final+ 15%Case study+ 10%research paper. Every class students must present chapters in groups while he criticizes. 1-2 people/class must discuss their discussion. AVOID
This class and professor was just awful. Professor Kerbel brags about how much experience and knowledge he has but never gives a single lecture. The class is "taught by the students." Everyone has to present a chapter or section of the book, while he interrupts you every 15 seconds. He gives lots of busy work and blindsides you Exams.
He seems intimidating at first- but he's really nice. He helped me understand the topic and also tried to help me professionally. Not many professor's go out of their way or use their own time to try and help students. The class has a lot of work but if you follow due dates and study for the midterm and final you will pass. Also pick a good group.
He is very nice but can be scary at 1st- tough but he cares alot- The work load is okay and he extends due dates often. Will help but you must ask both in the class and professionally. The class has weekly quizzes, discussions+midterm/final and group project. The exams are easy if you study the quizzes and read as scheduled. Easy B-A if you work
Do your work Pick a good group-lazyfail- Some people have a hard time because they miss due dates- easy B or A if you follow the schedule. Study the quizzes and read the book for the midterm and final. You will pass. He is also a great reference. He is tough at first and has high expectations but he will help you if you ask. Attendance is a must.
LOTS of work. But is needed for the class. 1 midterm+1final+2 group projects+1 personal project+weekly discussions+weekly quizzes. Keep a copy of your quizzes to study for the 2 tests you will pass for sure with an A. Read the chapter-highlight important stuff+review. Follow due dates. He extends due dates as needed.
Study alot and do the work. Need the book and need your attendance grade in the end. Not an easy subject but midterm and final are based off quizzes. Choose good group members or else you'll get stuck doing most of the work. 2 group projects and 1 group presentation. Watch the due dates- they change sometimes.
Would not recommend. I've never had a professor be more disconnected from his class. He's extremely strict and assigns a ton of work, 3 group projects, 2 papers (10pg & 20pg) Very difficult midterm, final & HW. Expects so much from students and is the laziest prof. I've ever had. Won't respond to emails and doesn't actually read any of your papers
He really cares about you learning the material and not just looking up answers on google and giving you an easy A. He wants you to work hard to earn your A (But that's how you really learn). His classes are based on real-life experiences and not just textbook material. His course stays up to date with recent topics such as cryptocurrencies.
Amazing professor. He prepares you for the real world in a great way. Midterms and finals are from exactly from the course modules and from questions that students make. Presentations can be made by individuals or groups. Weekly article postings with one short summary are done to keep yourself up to date. Easy A if you do all the work. Take again!
Just finished taking for summer B. Lots and lots and LOTS OF WORK! But he's worth it. Students make the midterm and final, and the grading criteria works in your favor for everyone to succeed. Two research papers, essay questions for midterm and final, and a class presentation. I was very surprised by how much I learned. Final was intense.
The class is structured differently and that may throw students off in the beginning but once you get used to it you see that it's not too bad as long as you manage your time well. You will learn a lot in class and "get your money's worth."
Professor Kerbel is a fair, clear, and overall phenomenal professor. The negative comments about him are students who do not put in any effort. Definitely show up to class and be ready for the presentation. He is a caring man and he is one of the most learned professors I have ever had. You would be a fool to not take this class.
Professor Kerbel is a fair grader and an amazing person in general. He will challenge you and you will learn from it. This class is not easy but can become easier just by doing the work on time.
Awesome Professor, really knows what hes talking about. He will challenge you each class. Keep in mind he gives allot of work but its extremely beneficial to you and overall really simple as long as you do not procrastinate. If youre a procrastinator I dont recommend this class for you. Be prepared for presentations no reading from pp.
I highly recommend taking this professor. Initially, though I was nervous because the syllabus is overwhelming. If you want to learn you should take him. He is a fair grader and really wants his students to succeed. As long as you attend class and put effort into the assignments you'll do well.
I took professor Kerbel for Global Private Banking, I recommend the course to anyone, he really does take the time to ensure students learn. I recently had a financial analyst interview at a bank and majority of the class lectures and homework assignments became relevant for my interview. It is an invaluable course.
FIN 4324 had been a great learning experience. This professor goes out of his way in and outside of the classroom to engage the students. Textbook chapters are presented in groups with the professor's support, ensuring that the material is understood, not just learned for tests. Research projects like papers greatly help develop writing skills.
Global Private Banking resembles a very interactive forum on a wide range of topics affecting the finance sector and the greater context. Interactive learning experience with guest speakers. Textbook chapters are covered in presentations which the professor helps with. Grading is straightforward, and exams are directly drawn from the classes.
Professor Kerbel is one of the best professors I have taken in my life. He has an effective particular way of learning, which students teach other students. He knows very well the class material. His experience in Finance speaks for itself. P. Kerbel even brings experienced people for networking and to learn from them. I definitely recommend him.
Professor Kerbel is very knowledgable and respected with years of experience in the industry. He cares about his students and wants them to succeed in their college career and in life as well. He has a very clear grading criteria. It is very important to attend class as each chapter is presented by a group of students. I highly recommend him!
Professor Kerbel is an amazing professor! He cares about keeping his students engaged and having them really learn and understand the material. Besides the use of the textbook, he brings a lot of real-life experiences as well as other sources such as videos and guest speakers. If you attend every class and manage your time wisely, you will succeed!
Professor Kerbel is hands down one of the most influential professors I've had! He goes above and beyond to help his students. He uses an unconventional way of teaching that is superior. He's flexible with his deadlines. Outside of the classroom, he gave me professional advice and tips that helped me make career decisions. Would def take him again!
AMAZING PROF! Definitely take him! not only will you pass, but you will also learn! He is an expert with years of experience. He teaches from his experience, which is better than the theoretical textbook stuff if you ask me. He is a caring Prof!
He means well & has good intentions, he believes students learn well from their peers. We were required to create a PP on a CH and present it to the class - he would intervene in our presentation to add information. Attendance is a grade. 10 page ethical analysis, 10 page bank analysis, 20 quizzes - 20 questions each, post 2 weekly articles
Professor Kerbel is an amazing professor! His class is by no means a walk in the park, but if you are interested in learning, take him. His teaching methods are not the usual powerpoint readings and note taking, but his methods are actually more effective. He has a decades of banking experience and if you pay attention, you WILL learn a lot!
You have to do a lot of papers and read, but Professor Kerbel Class is so worth it. You end up learning a lot and is beneficial information that is used in the field of finance. I totally recommend him.
Prof. Kerbel is the type of class that you WILL study hard but if you dont procrastinate you can do it. It is alot but it has been the best class i have taken at FIU. You will learn. Also the prof. gives you scenarios of real life about banking and life. You wont regret it! YOU WILL LEARN THE MEANING OF NO MULTI-TASKING for your entire life.
A M A Z I N G! Professor Kerbel exceeded my expectations with the extensive amount of knowledge that he has to share from many years in the banking industry. Yes, he gives a lot of work, but the research papers assigned help you obtain a better understanding of the industry. Would have enjoyed to have him for more finance classes, he really cares!
Great Professor! I took him for Global Private banking and FIN 4324. I have learned so much. You will never forget him. He is strict, but has endless knowledge in finance and banking, 40 + years of experience and it shows. Go to class or you wont pass! Pay attention and stay off your computer and phones in class. He is very helpful & accessible!
Great professor. I took him for commercial bank management. In this class we had groups to explain a chapter and to do a group project. Exams were in class. Highly recommend him. You will learn a lot and if you do the work, you will pass. No cellphones or computers on during his class unless he permits it due to an exam.
Do not take this professor! Mandatory attendance Inaccessible out of class in which he requires you to call him regarding any grading issues or grading concerns since he doesn't respond to emails. FYI he doesn't answer phone calls and when he does, he brushes you off saying "busy, contact me later" Doesnt teach.. makes students present chapters!?!
Being honest, I have taken Prof Kerbel twice with FIN 4634 and FIN 4663. And I can tell you even though he is busy he would always be available in and out of class. If he doesn't answer your call he will 100% call you back. No doubt about it. Attendance is mandatory and he also gives you extra time to submit your projects. Tests are pretty fair
Kerbel is a great proff. Not only does he has a very unique style of teaching that relies on us (students)to teach our classmates through chapter presentations, but the whole class is structured for you to put in the work and truly master the Financial concepts. + He will answer ALL your phone calls day and night no matter what! Amazing experience!
I took 2 courses with Prof Kerbel and it was the best decision ever. I was able to learn a lot and to teach my classmates as well. The class requires a lot of work, but I learned a lot. Part of the assignments consisted of weekly readings that actually helped me to keep myself up to today and to get a job. I am thankful I took this class with him.
Kerbel may know his stuff but does an awful job of teaching it to others. This is mostly because he refuses to teach it himself. All 20 book chapters are presented by students (most of which do an awful job, somewhat understandably). This is a class based on A TON of math and formulas and we NEVER did ANY math problems in the class. What a joke...
The most updated class I have ever taken, he uses updated cases and information, you should pay attention to details, follow instructions to the letter. you should never procrastinate.
He is honestly one of the best professors Ive ever had. You will learn a lot, and will actually look forward to going to class. He knows his stuff, and is pretty funny. He cares, and make sure no one gets left behind. He wants everyone to pass. Took him for Fin 4324 & 4634, and he was great. Take him, you wont regret it.
Professor Kerbel is very knowledgeable and respectful. To pass his class you will have to read the chapters and make a good effort in the group projects. Do not procrastinate. There are different assignments you will need to complete, Also, he is very helpful if you show commitment and honesty .
I took professor's Kerbel Class 3 times. Fin4324, Fin4663 and Fin4634. Bar far one of the best professors you could have if you want to get your money's worth. Always full of knowledgeable comments and feed back. Great Experience.
I would have gotten a waaaay better grade but since I am more of a in person learner and with COVID that was not possible, this was the only professor that taught by real life examples! If you are serious about wanting to learn and understand before you go out to the real world I HIGHLY recommend this professor!
He is a great professor. He really cares about you. He is very accessible. You do have to put in the work to be successful.
The best most professional Professor ever. He enjoys teaching us the student. Get ready to learn. He is one of the best Professors I have have had in a while at FIU! I dont have any more words of acknowledgments for him. Love you, Professor Kerbel!
I've never felt inclined to write something negative about a professor, typically I chalk it up to my own disregard towards a teaching style, until this semester. He holds himself in very high regard and expects you to as well. Clearly a very bright mind, but heavily lacking what is needed as a Uni Prof. Laughable that this is where my tuition goes
Very fascinating to watch him work. He is very critical and isn't afraid to call you out in front of the class, yet often asks the class if we learned something, as if someone would be rude enough to say otherwise. He wants to be a different kind of teacher, at the expense of the student. He is grumpy and will talk about the dependency of tech.
Probably one of the best professors you will have. You will have to work for it, but if you're willing to put in the work and not procrastinate, you will do well. Professor Kerbel is always one call away, eager to help you along the way. YOU WILL LEARN!
He's not as bad as he seem. He's very old school and you will need to participate and you will learn. He's not a tough grader. if you put some effort you will pass the class.
Dr. Kerbel prepares you for the real world. Give this class the attention and effort it deserves and you'll get a reflective grade. Stay up to date with the course material, syllabus guides you accordingly. Pay attention in class and ask questions. Dr. Kerbel is a very knowledgable and helpful professor who wants you to be better. True professional
He has a tendency to treat college students like kindergarten kids. He makes the students present every chapter and does not really teach the class himself. Be prepared for a messy schedule and an overload of busy work and papers. 40+ assignments. One month left in the semester and I can honestly say I have not learned much. Least favorite Prof
Prof. Kerbel is an excellent source of knowledge. His experience clearly comes out in his lectures. We present the chapters in class and he always has good points to make the material relevant. The class has a defined structure and if you do the work a very good grade is more than attainable. Put in the work and you will learn plus get an A!
Professor Kerbel is one of the most accessible and caring professors I've had at FIU. Even as his class demands time and work, it's not hard to pass if you organize your time, and he is understanding of the amount of workload assigned. His door is always open and you can call him any time or see him after class if you have any questions.
Professor Kerbel is a very demanding professor when it comes to being engaged in class. However, he does provide a lot of useful and interesting information as he is very knowledgeable in the topics discussed. Not only you will be able to talk to him outside class, but he will sit down with you and help you out with any questions you may have.
Prof. Kerbel is very knowledgeable, full of experience and well known in the financial community. He gives a lot of homework, however if you manage your time well it is doable. He cares for his students and teaches the class about respect, conduct and the importance of accountability. Study for his exams, and participate in class and you'll do well
Had him for remote learning. Lots of work: weekly discussions, 1 or 2 weekly quizzes, chapter presentation, a 10 page paper, a 20 page paper, midterm, and final. Grading scale set up is nice as nothing is really that heavily weighted. Could get stressed easily though. He has a strong personality. Likes to do calls instead of emails.
Profesor Kerbel is very knowledgeable in his field and has real life experience in dealing with the banking field. He even had heads on banking in Florida come in and speak first hand with the class. He really cares about his students. He went out of his way to call me to make sure I was on top of my assignments so I can pass the course.
This class has been the one I have learned the most so far. Prof. Kerbel knows well about finance and keep it up to date, so expect to learn to relate current events with the topics of the class. Two essays that do help you to know the material. This class will prepare you to become a real professional. The professor is Always available to help.
Prof. Kerbel knows the process for real learning, so this is the class you'll Never forget. He prepares you for future success as a professional. Expect to work for this class specially on projects, articles, and quizzes. This class has been the most up to date I have ever had because he explains the real world with the topic of the class.
He assigns about 3 different textbooks and makes you present the material to the class. The workload is heavy but manageable, submit every assignment-you will pass the class. He extends deadlines if you give him a call. For the final & midterm essay ?'s write down what he says in class because it will appear on the exam. Don't panic, u will pass.
By far the most valuable professor you will take in your college career. Even if you forget everything from the textbook, the habits of reading every day, and the emphasis on personal responsibility will help you in life. Not an easy class. Weekly article postings and many quizzes. Also group projects. Prof. Kerbel is always available to speak.
Honestly, one of the top 2 worst teachers i have taken at FIU. Incredible disrespectful to his students and waste to much time during class time discussing unnecessary things. Treats you as a high school student, isn't clear on what is due. Honestly all the other ratings are far from the truth.
Doesnt know how to teach. He mainly babysits us and makes sure we are listening to the class. Get irritated when we ask a question, very rude to students. Takes away too much class time and then rushes the class when we try to learn. Not a good professor, doesnt know how to properly motivate and educate his students.
He has an emphasis on throwing a lot of material at students instead properly structuring what he wants you to learn. The class is poorly structured and bloated. Not only is the professor is quick to anger and but more than willing to waste time with tangential or irrelevant material. He will fill out class time with fluff for the sake of it.
The amazing reviews left on here, I'm convinced, are from new entry students or Kerbel himself. This is NOT one of the best professors you'll ever have. He does NOT teach. You are teaching your classmates and reading the rest on your own. Semester isn't over yet, heed warning. I never do reviews, but there's always time for a first.
If you enjoy asking questions during class, dont take this class because you won't be able to without getting yelled at or receiving little to no assistance on that question. YOU. WILL. READ. A. LOT. The reading does not stop because this is how you will learn what you need to know for this class. Class discussions don't help.
First and only time doing a review here so I just want to help students before they make a mistake. You won't learn anything from this Professor as the students have to teach themselves every class. Kerbel is rude to most students and his numerous assignments are very unclear. He tries to fail people and he's a genuinely disrespectful individual.
If I could give this professor a zero rating I would. He has no respect or self-awareness of how his actions affect his students. He yells at each one of them for irrelevant mistakes. If you can stay away from him, I would. For a commercial banking class the class load is average. Expect 2 exams, 2 research papers and a ppt presentation.
WORST PROFESSOR IN FIU! Previous ratings mislead me to take him. He is very rude, unhelpful, and UNNECESSARILY COMPLICATED. You do a chapter presentation, ethical analysis, country report, weekly article posting, group submitted questions, and 2 exams; all with rigorous guidelines. We basically pay to do HIS job and get yelled at. Very stressful!
Prof. Kerbel is not for students who leave things for last minute or students wanting an Easy A. If that's what you are looking for then he is not it. He will challenge you and will make you work for your grade. Be ready to read a lot and research. His test are from questions submitted by us. He is not for everyone but to me one of the best at FIU.
Based on the commentary given bellow, I must disagree. The class is fair, it may not be easy but if you put in the work it is possible to excel. Prof. Kerbel says "aim to exceed not for perfection". He has always been available to help students who struggle but it is a matter of recognizing the issue and working to succeed.
Professor Kerber is a great Proffesor, you will need to study but if you follow the guidelines and complete the work you will be able to easily pass the class, is a fair grading sys. Professor is always available to help his students, he is very helpful. You can call him any time and he will answer and work with you until your question is solved.
Taking professor Kerbel for global banking would be ideal if you plan to prepare yourself for the workforce. He is clear on what he expects, provides his students with all the material needed to do well. The student does need to meet him halfway and hold up their end. Expect collaborative assignments within groups and stay up to date on the news.
The professor Kerbel is a very fair man, the coursework is by no means easy and requires effort and dedication. The professor will grade in a fair way and makes his classes go in-depth into specific topics. Don't take it if you are not ready to read often.
My cousins had him for a few courses and loved him. The professor has a vast knowledge of the banking industry that he uses to keep the students engaged with methods of teaching including, but not limited to self study and cooperation. The professor is very clear on what he expects of his students. He is always available by email or phone to help.
I have grown to appreciate him as a teacher and person. He truly does care for his students, give him a call (must), he wants to know you're serious about learning and I promise he will do everything in his power to make sure you pass with flying colors. 3 projects, not difficult, just follow the guidelines. He yells yes because he cares. CALL.
Professor Kerbel is great. He might come off as intimidating but if you communicate with him you will realize he is super understanding. His class is not an easy A, you will have to put in the time and dedication but it will be well worth it. You will learn a lot at the end of the course. He brings in bank regulators to teach aclasssabout banking.
This class was very different from what I'm used to. The professor is good, and actually cares if the students are learning the material. The students are the ones who present the chapters, but I think it's good to practice public speaking. Overall, if you want to learn about international banking real life aspects, this is the right class to take
This was a great experience, we had the opportunity to work with a student in Ecuador for the group project. It is a lot of work but is one of those classes where you actually learn, profesor knows the topic very well, always available to help the his students. Weekly articles & quizzes, PP presentation, ethical analysis, group project, midterm Fin
He can be intimidating, as expected of someone as accomplished as he is within the field, but if you show that you care for the class and reach out to him he is amazing. Legitimately makes himself available for all his students as much as he can. This is a great class with interesting material that makes you think beyond simple math and apply it.
Its not an easy A class but ultimately an easy A is not preparing you for the real world job market, which this class helps with massively. Every semester he is able to bring in regulators for the class. The class also is very versatile and not too heavily weighted on one assignment. You will truly learn and explore a variety of topics.
An interactive class. Prof. Kerbel was super helpful if you reach out to him. His style is being real and direct with his students, no sugar coating just honest and cares about you passing the class. Participate, read and follow the guidelines and you should be able to pass. He is very knowledgeable about the class and overall good.
This professor is very intelligent in his field, but what he gains in experience and knowledge, he lacks in basic respect for his students. He yells and disrespects his students. If he wasn't so disrespectful, I would give him a 4/5 because the class is not hard if you just don't procrastinate. Fairly weighted class but he's just disrespectful.
This professor is one of the best professors i've had at FIU. People say he yells and is disrespectful but he is not at all. He raises his voice so you are able to hear him clearly during his lectures. He truly cares about his students and wants all of them to succeed. Work load is heavy but as long as you do all of the assignments you will pass.
I have taken this professor for both FIN4634 and FIN4663 at the same time for this semester. I can say that I have learned a lot in this class. Taking both classes at the same time was a bit tedious, but it is still manageable. Just make sure you are good with time management. Taking the class individually is doable. It is easy to earn a good grade
If you are passionate about finance and you truly want to learn then you should take this professor. He is extremely understanding and very knowledgeable. This class is fairly weighted and one assignment alone will not ruin your grade. This class is not difficult but you will have to work very hard if you want an A.
A lot of sources from outside the textbook. Very knowledge and informative of all material of this course. I'd recommend to take this professor, if you finish your assignment on time and pay attentions to materials that he talk in the class. You are mostly control every of your grade because he will let you work as a team to recommend exam question
Great professor, super knowledgeable about commercial banking. One of the few classes I really enjoyed at FIU. Clear guidelines on what needs to be done throughout the semester. Definitely a professor worth taking.
I am taking FIN 4324 with Professor. Kerbel for my summer B. This is a very tough class since it is a summer term and you do not have time to procrastinate. You will definitely learn a lot from the course about commercial banking. Professor. Kerbel is very knowledgeable and he prefers talking to you through phone calls than emails.
Professor Kerbel is extremely experienced in the world of international banking, he shares his personal experiences as examples for many of the topics he covers. Like anything in the world of finance and banking, this class requires WORK. It won't be an easy A but you will come out of it highly informed in history of banking and how it works today.
This is the most complicated professor I have ever taken. The syllabus is a book of rules. You must post and summarize news articles weekly. you must also prepare power points for your chapters, you'll have quizzes, an ethical analysis, a research paper, and 2 heavy exams consisting of several essays and M/C questions. HORRENDOUS!
Professor Kerbel is a great professor and very knowledgeable about commercial banking. During the 6 week course you cannot procrastinate. You will have weekly news readings/postings and quizzes, chapter presentation, an ethical case, bank comparison project, midterm and final. He talks about his experiences in banking as well. Follow his guidelines
Professor Kerbel was amazing. Many of the people who have left bad comments simply did not try. Unlike many professors he has worked in the finance field and is knowledgeable of the subject matter. If you do not wait until the last minute and pay attention in class, you will do well and look forward to going to class.
Professor Kerbel is very knowledgeable in the material, and he has very effective learning process that you must trust and he will recognize your efforts. read the book, go to class, and ask questions, as he has so much info that will make you very wealthy in the future!
Professor Kerbel is a great professor who truly cares for his students and wants them to succeed! His availability to assist students out of class and his ability to involve students inside the classroom are unmatched. If given the opportunity, take this class with him. Overall, he enjoys seeing his students succeed and gives great lectures!
Marcos Kerbel is a great professor and I would definitely take him again.
Kerbel is an intelligent professor who is knowledgeable on the topics he lectures about. However, his class structure is focused on group projects where the students are expected to teach the textbook chapter's content and this simply does not work. There are professors just as knowledgeable that have a more stimulating curriculum.
This professor knows a lot about what he is talking about and he brings in speakers from the field. He is short-tempered but if you follow his instructions and rules you should be fine. Students make the presentations for each of the chapters for the semester and there are 3 essays (1 individual & 2 in a group); group essays are around 30 pages.
This class was difficult but very engaging. Definitely one of my favorite classes in FIU. This Professor was very respectful and helped in and outside of class with every problem or question for all of his students that had happened to pop up.
Kerbel is like a grumpy REALLY CARING grandpa. He wants you to learn. Truly cares for students, try talking with him. He understands more than other professors, even pushed some deadlines. He asks for weekly news reports and quizzes, and group ppts (grade is not only test based). By grumpy, I mean he dislikes multitasking (forget laptop/phones).
If you want a professor that has been in the commercial banking industry for a number of years, this is the guy. It is a volumes class with two pretty big projects, but they ultimately prepare you for the workforce. It also gives you the opportunity to network with other classmates. I think this is a solid professor. I would recommend taking him.
I dont know how theres such positive reviews, attendance is mandatory miss more than 2 times and youre going to get a 70 in participation or below, the students present the chapters themsleves and he constantly interrupts them making presentations last an hour per group and most of the time hes talking, he does extend deadlines, do not take him
The workload is heavy for this course. The professor is super nice, but old school so no phones or laptops. There are 2 group projects, 1 individual project and 1 presentation. This class is very demanding but not difficult. The exams can be broad and he doesn't make It clear what to study. Overall, good professor just too much work.
Marcos kerbel is one of the most caring professors at FIU. While he may seem like a tough teacher and can be very vocal about attending class, he wants his students to succeed and is willing to help them pass. He is very accessible outside of class even giving you his number if you need to contact him immediately. TL;DR he makes it hard to fail.
Professor Kerbel deeply cares about his students and will go the extra mile to make sure that all his students are comfortable and get a good grade in the class. He is extremely knowledgeable about everything in Finance and will always educate his students
The class is tough and you really have to earn your grade. Theres 2 exams, 1 presentation and 3 papers 2 of which are done in groups. While the class is tough, Professor Kerbel is very understanding and always available outside of class. The class prepares you for the SIE exam
Took this course accelerated and phew. I learned so much throughout this course and I'll never forget that I learned it from Marcos Kerbel. If you're lazy and don't like to push yourself academically, I'd say go with another professor but if you want to actually learn to make observations about the world around you then this is the guy! Best at FIU
What a KING! Super easy classes. p. How to win: **Get a good group **He picks the questions directly from the ones each group submits for the exam, study those alone and you can easily beat the class average **great for connections, Professor Kerbel is very knowledgeable and connected in banking **Go to class, graded **very funny professor
What a KING! Super easy classes. How to win: **Get a good group **He picks the questions directly from the ones each group submits for the exam, study those alone and you can easily beat the class average **great for connections, Professor Kerbel is very knowledgeable and connected in banking **Go to class, graded **very funny
Professor Kerbel is extremely clear in his expectations for every assignment. He will go the extra mile for students that do not understand a topic or need testing accommodations. He is extremely understanding and reliable.
You might doubt taking him because of the bad reviews, but you need to trust the process. YOU WILL pass. He cares about students a lot. If something comes up, you can always come to him. If you feel like you are not learning, you are just wait. I am very happy with this professor. He is very knowledgable and an actual great person to work with.
He's a great guy. Connected in banking industry so make sure he gets to know you and you do good. Exams are straight up from the questions student groups submit so easy A. Lots of busy work and you teach yourself by presenting to class every time. A lot of people don't like it when he calls you out, but he is a real one so just be honest and good
Prepared you for the SIE exam. Great connection to have he is. He is caring. Do you work, present to the class your chapter, write the exam questions and study the ones groups submit to get a good grade. Lots of busy work, but very easy he glances over the work. Be his friend and he'll be yours
Amount of group projects is a lot, he's a tough grader for them. u'll have to literally teach the material to urself, and the class while he sits and criticizes. Studying for the exams will become too much - everyone in the class submits questions for each chapter. Improve ur public speaking for this class, unless u want to be ridiculed by him. GL!
Prof. Kerbel creates an excellent class atmosphere that encourages conversation about the issues seen in finance today. Lectures are presented by students in tandem with his interjections of additional information and stories from his banking career. Exams are set up for you to show what you know and to prepare you to be a finance professional.
3.6GPA Multiple time consuming group projects, completely disorganized canvas littered with useless links, multiple essays, 3 different text books to sift through, STUDENTS teach book chapters, no midterm or final reviews. Worst of all, peer pressures students into giving good reviews. A perfect example of a wise man not cut out to teach a course.
A great professor. Group projects are manageable, stop procrastinating. I used the knowledge he gave me to secure an offer with Wells Fargo. He encourages his students to strive for success and will work with you if you need accommodation, just be respectful and pay attention in class. Students present chapters to the class and professor will help.
Best professor I have had at FIU. Gives you his number to call for advice, help with class, and frequently tries to connect students with banking opportunities to progress. Great lecturer and easy grader if you put in the work and don't procrastinate. He helped me get my current banking job with his lectures and advice. Helps you get into banking
This professor is nuts. Forget about the use of tech, get ready to be screamed at, and be worried about your spare time. Only people giving 5/5 are people who got a job from his network. All other comments are correct, tech yourself, group project heavy, quizzes have nothing to do with what his "teaching". Horrible class, would advise all to run!
I would just advise anybody to stay clear from this class. Professor can be nice from time to time, but he can also be scary and intimidating. He always kind of forces us to tell him class is good but if I dared to say the truth, the class sucks. I have to learn everything myself, and he is intimidating that I dont even dare to ask for guidance.
He hates technology so much you'll hear random lectures about it each class. He makes the students teach the class in groups for each chapter. If you want to learn you have to do it yourself. The assignment is easy but only if you use the internet ironically enough. His classes are boring but attendance is mandatory. Exams are in person. GOOD LUCK
Great Professor to learn. Had him for three classes now. If you are interested in banking+a finance major, do not hesitate to go for the certificates in bank management+international banking with him. You will present, you will have plenty of assignments, you will meet great people, and Professor will help you get ready for a career in banking.
Great professor because he involves all of the students in makes it a very interactive class. There are a couple of projects throughout the course, which are explained with clear criteria. He is also very helpful, accessible outside of class and will go out of his way to help you.
His classes engaging and informative. However, be prepared for a challenging course with heavy tests, extensive reading material, and weekly presentations.
His main focus is to make sure you are learning as much as possible
Professor Kerbel is amazing! He cares for his students & wants to see us all succeed. Always available to help outside of class, even if you fall behind he'll help you out. He's an expert in his field, shares a lot of practical advice & clearly knows what he's talking about. Take his class if you really want to learn! Will be taking him again :)
Professor Kerbel is one of the most caring Professors and teachers I have met. Beyond a deep regard for his students and their success, it is apparent that he teaches to shape the future of finance as a whole. He is the best choice for any course you have the ability to take with him. His classes are for students who truly wish to learn.
Kerbel has 0 respect for students. He makes students teach other students by assigning them powerpoints to present in a group. He is completely against using technology inside of the classroom, plus you must call him if you want to reach him outside of class. He did not teach us a single bit of math in a course about finance.
Professor Kerbel was my second attempt at taking FIN 3403. Here is what you can actually expect,You can use your phone before/after class and during break time. The group presentation is an easy A. The quizzes have multiple attempts. The midterm and final are vocabulary based. Plus he provide formulas. He cares about his students success beyond FIU
Prof. Marcos Kerbel was a fantastic instructor! I was taken away by how relevant the course was to real-world situations. He was engaging in discussions and knowledgeable about financial institutions and the industry. His teaching style was very interactive and involved some self-learning and group activities, which made the class more manageable.
The modules were Cengage stolen power points with no other lecture. There is a section for Class videos with 0 videos in it. He is a very nice guy but you have to teach yourself. Midterm and Final are proctored (honor lock) quizzes on lockdown browser. 2 midterms, 2 finals,1 group project (easy), and weekly discussion (article posting), 1 paper.
Professor Kerbel does things the old school way. There is a lot of reading and time needs to be invested in order to pass this class. However, this is just part of taking a college class. There are two midterms and to finals so get ready to study. He communicates primarily through phone calls and he will answer you in a timely manner.
Prof Kerbel turned out to be one of my favorites at FIU. He is an extremely knowledgeable man who is very respected in his field and has a lot to offer. It is not the easiest class in the world but if you participate you will pass. The professor may come off as abrasive but he is fantastic and wants nothing but your success. NO MULTITASKING
Amazing and very knowledgeable about banking due to his work experience. Lectures are based on real life situations which makes it so much easier to learn any topic. We had 2 exams, and 3 projects which weren't hard actually. Class isn't hard as long as you pay attention during the lecture because that's what is gonna be on the test later.
Attend every class and be ready for the exams
Professor Kerbel is one of the best professors I have ever had. He is caring and extremely knowledgeable in the financial world. Show up to class, pay attention, and do all the weekly assignments and this will be a breeze. Also, pick your group partners carefully. There are a few assignments throughout the course.
He's cool, let us pick our own group for research projects and for a chapter presentation of the book. Every class someone presents a chapter. Plus, an ethical analysis on your own. Exams are a mix of 60% weight on an essay part and 40% on a multiple choice. He knows his stuff and genuinely cares. If I had a choice, I'd sign up for his class again!
Professor Kerbel is one of the best professors I've had at FIU. He trully cares, wants you to pass and learn, no phones/laptops during class, a lot of information for 6-week course, strict with guidelines, quiz for each chapter, 2 articles weekly, midterm and final essay and multiple choice in person lockdown browser, if you want to learn take him
Must have time and diligence to sit through the lectures which are student led with the professor filling the gaps that students miss. You will have to present a chapter of the book with groups of 3 and then you will also have to do a group project with that group so make sure to pick your group correctly form the start.
assignments are exactly what you see on class and the exams and quizzes are fairly easy if you pay attention to class and read/skim the book. Group work is very important and it is a sizable chunk of the grade so make sure to pick reliable groupmates. You will have to participate and present a chapter of the book so be ready to not read off screen.
Professor Kerbel's class is challenging but rewarding. He emphasizes real-world applications, and his lectures are engaging. Unstuckstudy AI was a lifesaver for exam prep alongside the textbook.
He has mixed instruction all the time. If you not trying to learn anything in class, he will be good choice
He yells in class if you use your cell phone, the midterm lasts the whole class and is divided into two parts. You don't learn anything
Kerbel is rude to his students, doesn't actually teach anything, he just lets students lecture on all chapters of the book and LOVES to comment how Generation Z is awful compared to his gen. His classes are boring, didn't learn a single thing from him. I want to let others students know bc I was catfished by his 4/5 rating here, more like a 2/5.
Ok, so he is not the most likeable guy at first, but he is a professor that actually cares if you learn. He makes it hard for you not to learn and pushes you to your limit. Kerbel is also really understanding; if you just give him a phone call, he will help you with anything. He makes everything challenging but grades easier than you'd expect.
Attendance is 100% mandatory and make sure to show up on time. Very much a tough love professor and old school, no electronics allowed in class. I think he's a professor that everyone should take at least once, very tough grader but clear criteria. Group work and assignments divide the grade weights so not entirely reliant on midterm and finals
Kerbel encourages students to present what they've learned and uses a "tough love" approach to motivate them. The workload is manageable if you keep up with readings and lectures. Quizzes follow each chapter, and you can earn extra credit by presenting an extra chapter. Start projects early and consider studying in groups for midterms and finals.
Great Professor! Just participate well in the classroom with students and professor. No heavy homework, weekly discussion posts based on Yahoo News. Overall, I would take this professor again because if you put effort into his class you will learn many things plus pass it with good grade.
His teaching style combines practical examples with theoretical concepts, making complex topics easier to understand. He is approachable and genuinely cares about his students' success, often taking the time to provide extra help when needed.
It is student oriented. Meaning the students create a positive or negative experience of the classroom, the professor is just a humble guide to steer engagement and plug in the knowledge gaps.
Do not let the high score fool you this professor is for sure a 1/5 or 2/5. The students present every chapter making it very hard to understand the material from someone who just learned it the night before. I much rather have the professor teach the chapters himself. I did not learn a single thing.
Professor Kerbel truly cares about his students success. His projects will 100% prepare you for working in the financial industry. If you can succeed in his course, you can thrive in the industry!
You'll learn in all of his classes. He wants the best for FIU students. Attend class, details matter, take notes when he talks, and pick good groups Project & essay are 25% but take time! Midterm and Final are 35%. Presentation, attendance, and weekly article posts are 30% and easy! I had him for three classes at once so with just one you're fine
Terrible professor. You teach yourself.
One of the few professors actually interested in you learning something. The class is tough but the grading format makes it impossible for you to fail unless you genuinely do a bad job. Attendance matters a lot. 2 tests, 2 projects, and one quiz per chapter. This class absolutely prepared me the most for my job. Great class and great professor.
Take stock of the reviews that talk about how the students present the chapters. He does not teach the material, he has the students break into groups and each teach a chapter. He does the same thing with the exams, the students create them as an "assignment" and he will change some true to false, but does very little teaching
Professor Kerbel outsources teaching to the students. Every chapter is presented by students and he will only make critical comments. If you need help he'll say "There's nothing I can do". He criticizes students for struggling but won't teach them. The class itself is easy if you read the book, but don't expect help from the professor.
he is Uma Swamy's brother. his ego is high as empire state. expected student to pay attention 24/24(which sounds good for you but no) while he does not pay attention to student's presentation, interrupt student from present just to take attendance 🤣
Professor Kerbel is hands down one of the best professors I've had at FIU. His classes are challenging, but in the best way—he pushes you to actually learn the material, not just memorize it. You can tell he genuinely cares about his students' success. If you're willing to put in the work, this class will absolutely prepare you for the real world.
Professor Kerbel is one of the best instructors I've had and truly cares about your learning experience. Unlike other courses where the professor lectures the entire time, the students are the ones who present the chapters. This makes it easier to retain the information and builds public speaking skills. Put in the effort and you'll get an A. 10/10
Professor Kerbel is an excellent professor. His class structure is designed for material to stick to students beyond just his class. You understand the mechanics of the material, allowing you to not only explain it but also teach it. I highly recommend Professor Kerbel as a professor, top 5 of FIU.
He's one of the professors that is challenging but in a good way. If you are looking towards doing a career/internship in Commercial Banking, this guy definitely will be the best person ever to ask for advice. His class is structured to be taught by students for students. It takes time to get used to, but this is by far the best way to learn.
His a really good professor and if you need to comunícate with him, he's fast
Professor Kerbel might at first may seem like a tough professor, but he does it for a reason. He actually cares about his students and therefore has a tough love kind of approach to teaching. He is very accesible outside of class, during this semester I called him many times to ask him questions about the projects and exams, and he helped me learn.
I had him during summer but he was rlly caring, we had great speakers come, and he is very very helpful. Just had to a bunch of reading cuz its 20 chapters in summer A but I loved him
Great professor with a lot of knowledge and experience in the field, if you are looking to get into the banking sector than he is probably the best professor to take at FIU.
Tough old man but means well. Would take him again.
Amazing professor and really good class
Interesting class, a lot of work.
Professor Kerbel is a though professor that demands uninterrupted attentions on his lectures. Get ready to focus on the lecture and nothing else. Great professional and a lot of financial experience.
This professor is an exceptional educator with a deep well of knowledge and extensive real-world experience in this field. Taking a course with this professor is highly recommended, as he offer unique insights and practical guidance that can provide a significant advantage for those pursuing a career in banking.
Old class professor, he thinks he has the reason always. However, the midterm and final are easy. He get upset if you use your phone in class, does not matter the time you use it. Classes are long and bored. You have to present the chapters and he will make interruptions and add explanation.
By far, the best professor I have ever had in my years of education. He is knowledgeable, inspiring, respectful. Honestly, nothing bad to say about him or his class. You learn a lot and you can get a good grade if you put your effort into it. Having a class with him is an opportunity you should not miss.
Professor Kerbel criticized his students for their poor grades, failing to explain anything. He expected students to teach themselves and the class, even assigning PPT on topics we're unfamiliar with. I could tell he cares for his students but during class he tells us his whole life story and brags about his achievements. Be ready to teach urself.
This is not a class to slack in. The professor is great, very knowledgeable about the banking/finance industry, and cares a lot about his students but you get out what you put in. There is never a week without any assignments or readings or quizzes to do. Expect group projects and assignments. His exams are tough only if you don't study.
Professor M. Kerbel is an amazing professor. I owe so much to this class and especially so much to professor Kerbel, I really learned a lot from this course. I wish I could take professor Kerbel for every course through my journey here in the University. Amazing professor, incredible way of teaching, and extraordinary environment.
This class is easy if you attend class and pay attention to lectures. He will tell you what will be in the exam. Exams are taken in class with lockdown browsers. HW and quizzes at home. Projects are straight forward. Recommend you take him.
Great class, you would learn
Prof. Kerbel knows EVERYONE. Make a good impression, he remembers his students! He may seem a bit inflexible with technology and details, but it's because he cares about the future of the industry. Be patient, read the syllabus and instructions, and write down what he says will be on the exam. His exams have a written component!
Took him this fall for Commercial Bank Management. He is extremely knowledgeable, and you will take away a lot of practical insight from the class. Be prepared for challenging exams, though they are not a major part of the final grade. This course is very different from most other finance classes and offers a unique learning experience. TAKE HIM.
