He has been the best teacher that I have had so far at this school. He makes his lectures entertaining, homework is light, and he really helps you develop an understanding of the material. I highly recommend this teacher if you want to learn psychology.

My FAVORITE professor so far! Even though there were over 500 people in the class, he makes it so personable. He is very engaging, a great communicator, and I learned a lot. You won't do well if you don't like to work hard or be challenged. You have to read everything in the book.

This class is harder than it should be. Dr.Dickson seems pretty nice, but is a very hard grader. If you are interested in the subject, take him. If not, take a grad. assistant or else you'll not only be bored but unhappy w/ his high expectations

Exams are straight out of the book. Just read the book and review what you read to get a good (A) grade on the exams. Going to lectures isnt mandatory. Only go if hearing him repeat the same stuff as in the book will help you.

This was my favorite class, but studying is a must for this class. I managed to get a B on all exams and hjave a final grade of an A due to ExCR and Lab Assn. Need to study and read the book in order to do well though. Overal: Great Class; He really has great lectures as well as have an intersting take on the Intro course.

Do not need to attend class. read the book and you are good to go. exams are not tricky at all if you have more than half a brain. its all about definitions. the lab is super easy and he gives you tons of extra credit so just do the extra credit and you will get about 100 points right there

amazing professor, was there for me in time of emergency. the first test i failed, the second one i didnt do that good on either and ended up gettin a b in the class because i read all the chapters. make sure u read chapters, attend lab, do homework, extra credit and u will definetly get a b

He's a good speaker, but his lecture don't help a lot. His tests are hard and the quizes every day force you to stay sharp the whole semester. Though I learned a lot in this class, you're more or less on your own.

Hard class

He is a good lecturer.Although his tests are hard, you need to know pretty much everything in the book and be able to apply your reading to his exam questions. He gives 72 MC questions plus 3 essay questions,&quizzes b4 ea class, so read the book b4 coming to class. Study for his exams and don't expect labs to raise your grade.Some TAs grade hard.

Wonderful lecturer. 5 point quizzes at the beginning of every lecture, but a lot of the questions are common sense things, or as long as you read the material (or looked over it before class) you should be fine. Exams are kind of difficult, 75 multiple choice questions with 3 essays, but he always gives extra points to make up for bad questions.

He's a hard one when it comes to tests. You have to know a lot of details. Honestly, don't take him unless you're willing to work hard. Take Dr. Simon in the Winter or Summer. She's a whole lot easier and no attendance is required for her class as well as no quizzes in lecture. Her tests are all multiple choice without any essays or short answers.

I Just looked over the Text, did'nt pay much attention to the slides.(Did Decent) Go to SI twice a week, make sure you read the book or look it over in GREAT detail before exams(3 essays). He is a interesting lecturer, in the beginning of semester gives good study strageties and make sure you do all research studies for your extra credit(FUN).

Straight forward teacher. Read the book, that's where all the quiz and test questions come from. Lecture mandatory becuase of participation points and a few exams questions relate to class examples. Extremely easy labs.

Favorite class of my first semester. I hate reading, but the way he makes you study really helps, though it takes awhile. Labs are really easy. Lectures can get interesting. I like using the clickers. skim through the readings for 5Q quiz every Thurs. not hard at all. I got most of them w/o reading at all. I really enjoyed this class.

I LOVED this professor. He was my favorite during the semester. He uses examples for all concepts, which makes it more engaging and easy to understand. MyPsychLab is tedious, but it's easy points. Just don't wait till the night before to do it. The first exam was challenging, but as long as you read and go to class, you'll be fine.

This class was a lot of work for an introductory class, but most of the work is easy. The tests are not particularly challenging, although the essays are difficult to do well on. Presentations are very clear. There is a quiz every week.

Good Professor. Presents the material well. There is a lot of work involved and the exams are pretty difficult. Labs are easy points, and so are the I<Clicker points.

Lots of work. Used an I-clicker and as long as you show up for class and click in your grade should not really be terrible. A little difficult but with proper studying and preparation test are easy enough. Make sure to go to class and you will be ok. Explains the material very well with nice examples.

Exams are hard, but you can easily make up for it in lab and with the iclicker points and mypsychlab. I got a C or D on every exam but still got a B+ in the class overall. If you go to most lectures, do all your lab assignments, youll be fine.

prof ****son is veryy nice but gives very hard tests. i ended up with an A, but i had to work extremely hard to get it. you must read the textbook. his tests are long and tedious. i wouldnt recommend him if this is just a pre-req, but would recommend it to psych majors looking to really learn the material.

Great teacher, its my freshmen year and although i have only 3 other professors i would say professor Dickson is my favorite Professor by far, he teaches his subject very well, and made psychology very easy for me to understand and comprehend with almost no prior knowledge on the subject

He's a great Prof! I took this class as a Pre-Req and ended up really loving it. His lectures are very engaging, and makes connections that makes concepts easier to understand. As long as you read the weekly 5 question quizzes are extremely easy and you should have no problems with the exams aslong as you review it before the exam. Highlyrecommend!

i love dr. ****son. his class is great, as long as you read the book for the quizzes/tests, and do MyPsychLab, you will do really good in the class. research creds were a pain if you commute, but not impossible - i did alot of the online ones.

This was by far one of the best professors ever. Everyone just likes to complain, if you just read the book and attend class you can easily get an A. He curves like crazy, and his lectures are very interesting. I enjoyed listening to his lecturs.

Best prof I've ever had! He makes the course really interesting and I loved listening to his lectures. Don't bother printing out the slides, they're pretty useless. Just listen to the lectures after studying and before the exam, they help out a lot.

Very good prof. You basically have to go to lecture get i-clicker points. The lab is super easy. The research credits kind of suck. If you study the section summaries and practice quizzes and tests in the book you can get at least a B on each exam. He curves exams a lot. You don't really need the book, just get the access card with e-book.

Really great professor had him for fall 2010 and i constantly still use the info i learned in his class and apply it to my others. His lectures were interesting and entertaining you could tell he was very passionate.

Best professor I've had at Wayne State. Lectures are very entertaining and interesting. Labs are easy points, just make sure you do your hw, mypsychlab and read the book. Its a good amount of work and tests are kinda hard but he curves then about 7-10 % on average.

this professor was ok, he talked and talked until the last minute of class! you never leave early, you must attend all classes on time and never leave early because you get clicker points!their is a lot of work in this course so be prepared to work hard!

Dr.Dickson is probably one of the best professors I've had at WSU. He's very fair, always willing to help, and his expectations are clear. This teacher made learning introduction psychology fun and extremely interesting. I highly suggest taking into Psych with him!

He made psychology my favorite class last semester. I got bad grades at first, but I learned to keep up with the work and ended with an A. It is a lot of work but it's not too hard and everything helps you learn the material. His lectures were interesting and interactive. I recommend him!

He's an amazing professor, although he requires alot of work, at the end its very helpful. Make sure to keep up with the work even if you dont do so well on the exams. DON'T let the first day of class intimidate you because he'll make it seem like this is the hardest class. It really isn't alot of work at all it just takes a week or 2 to adjust. Attend class and lab do the EC and study for the tests. 3rd test was the hardest for me. Overall an easy class and you'll regret it if you drop it! Its easy!

Amazing professor! Best person to take intro to pysch with. Knows what he is teaching and makes the subject very interesting. Hs exams are a little hard but if you study well, you'll do good. He offers a lot of extra credit to help your grade as well. Take it with him!

He is the perfect person to take intro with! He is very passionate about psychology. He provides great examples to help you learn the material. There is a lot of work involved in the class, but it is not hard. Keep up with the assignments and they will be cushion points for your grade. And take advantage of the SONA extra credit he offers!!

Awesome professor! It's not an "easy" A per se, but if you read the book like he recommends, it will be. Gives up to 30 pts EC through research, so just do it. His examples solidify the material, so pay attention since he likes to use them on exams too. Take the class with him, you won't regret it. Made me actually like psych, which I never did.

My favorite professor I've had so far! He is very amusing during lecture with his jokes and makes the content genuinely interesting. I don't like the use of MyPsychLab for essays because the computer grades them and I don't trust that. He is not easy to reach via email. In class he is great at explaining. Pay attention and you'll do fine.

I loved his class. He did a great job at making the lecture interesting and pulled in a lot of outside videos and examples that made the class fresh. I didn't like the mypsychlab but it wasn't the worst. He responds to emails within a day and makes the best dad jokes and examples. I love how he involves the whole class but make sure to show up.

He really understands that tests don't mean everything. In the beginning of the year I thought his grading scale was absolutely ridiculous and his tests were impossible. I finished the class with a 99 even though I got about a B on every single test. He curves your tests, gives you MANY extra credit opportunities, and overall wants you to do well.

He is a great choice for an intro psych professor! His lectures are thorough, containing many memorable examples, his tests are fairly easy with a generous curve, and he has a good sense of humor. The only downsides sometimes can be the mandatory IClicker questions and a difficulty contacting him through email. Other than that, fantastic!

He is a great professor. Despite being a 400+ student lecture, he still engages with students and walks around the entire lecture hall. He takes a long time to respond to emails, but he is usually very helpful if you speak to him in person. He is a genuine guy who has such a passion for what he teaches.

Marcus is nice and easy going, but every week there are 1-2 pre & post tests due on mypsychlab. There are 3-4 essay questions due on my psych lab before every exam (there are 4 total). Lastly, you need to have 4 research credits by the end of the semester. In class i-Clicker points are a necessity for your grade. do not skip class.

At first, i thought psych1010 was going to be challenging because of how much work and content that we had to go through, however, it ended up being an easy class. There are approximately 14 essays that are graded by Pearson, practice tests that have to be completed before the lectures a lab and 4 exams which are curved.

Class divided into two parts - lecture and lab (lab makes up a lot of the grade of lecture, don't slack on either!). Lecture portion is very test-reliant to pass the class, but if you study for an hour the week before the test, you'll be fine. You also get to form groups for 25% of the test, so choose your peers wisely! Dickson's pretty good too.

Teaching style is very engaging; you don't have to try too hard to get an A in his class because the textbook is interesting and extra credit is not scant (good curve on every exam including the final). Dr. Dickson is iconic not just for a Psych professor but as a passionate and caring professor in general. I'm really gonna miss this class!

Offered a lot of extra credit to the point where my highest grade in the class was 125%. Including the final exam there is 6 exams overall. But just study with the quizzes and you'll be fine. Very enthusiastic speaker, and very interesting. As long as you make an effort you'll pass this class.

He always gives funny stories in lectures which helps me remember the concepts we learned. I do this because the course is difficult because of the amount of textbook reading required. I really enjoyed the atmosphere of the lecture. He gives out participation points through clickers and there are many group activities where he'll have us discuss things with peers near us. When it comes to the tests he gives out an individual test and once time is up he'll have us take that same test with people nearby so choose seating wisely.

it's rare to come across people as passionate as Dr. Dickson he is extremely passionate about everything he teaches. However, 2020 was hectic, it is not the easiest per say, and it was his first time teaching it, the exams were almost entirely dependent on the book, between the lab and lecture it's a lot, but def take him you'll learn a lot.

If you've had AP psych this was very similar, he's kind of fast pace for those not used to it. He gives good and understandable examples that makes everything easy to understand, however the class grade is mostly based on test/quiz grades and in-class questions on iclicker without prior studying, and no assignments are given to make grade better.
